besties what is your experience with windows 11. i have been rejecting the update for years at this point; is it better/worse/equally bad as windows 10?

not to brag about being good at my job but I’ve now developed two separate tools for debugging entirely on my own within my company entirely from scratch without help and A. it makes my job so much fucking easier and B. my boss is thinks im incredible just because im too lazy to want to write the same bits of code over and over just for debugging purposes

#unimportant thoughts #one i wrote 2-3 months ago #but i upgraded it this week to add in even more #and its just. perfect now.#given an id from any of the programs we built and run in our company #i instantaneously return everything about it #its name; what it does; what type of program it is; what server its run on; when it runs; where it connects; the parameters needed to #connect to wherever it connects; whether the program is currently turned on; the last 10 times the program ran; how many minutes each of #those runs took; how many files each of those runs created; whether those runs were successful; code snippets you can copy paste and run in #another window to look at the files created by each of those runs; the files created by the most recent run; thise file names; those file s #sizes; what types of files they are; whether theyre encrypted #how theyre encrypted #all of that and MORE #most of the information was already there but it took fucking 20 minutes to get all the information you needed #and you had to run a bunch of different snippets of code to get all the information and then put it all together #and now you can just fucking pop in the id of the program and .02 of a second later all the information is on your screen #AND IT MAKES MY LIFE SO MUCH EASIER #so. so. so. much. easier.#and then this week I wrote another program so I can compare runtimes of two different runs of the same program together based on how we stor #runtime data in our database #csuse i was tired of going back and forth manually between to different runs to compare #so now i have a program that just takes the ids of two different runs and compares them #doesnt even matter if the checkpoints are different I programmed it to figure out the order automatically and plug in any missing holes #finds the differences in runtime automatically and flags the biggest differences #and I can even customize how much of a difference I care about or to hide things I don’t care about

Omg I got CSP to run under Linux finally!! 😭

It doesn't like large files so far, though, and sometimes pen pressure turns off by itself, but I still have to switch systems around between my drives so this all not final anyway.

Going to test if I can get my licence registered on Linux, though. I basically don't boot Windows on PC anymore anyway, so it doesn't matter if CSP is uninstalled there.

#linux #csp #random stuff #omg this is such a relief #it's one of the biggest reasons to keep me from switching entirely #unfortunately I'll have to keep windows on my laptop at least until I can upgrade the PC #because my current main board doesn't have bluetooth and I need that for legal stuff 🙄#I already HAVE the new mainboard but not the new CPU 🥲 and my old one doesn't work with the new one #new GPU is also still missing lol #hopefully I'll manage to upgrade those within the timeframe that Windows 10 is supported #idk HOW #but somehow

well my computer showed the blue screen of death when i turned it off? which isn't the first time it happened, something like that happened a couple of months ago. i just hope tomorrow it turns on normally

#bc last time it happened it just wouldn't load my profile and was reverting to some emergency mode #and this time the freaking bluescreen wouldn't go away even after getting to 100% and i had to kill it with the power button hhhh #pls god may it work as normal tomorrow #i gotta save money for a new laptop. this one is so old #and i gotta anyway because i have windows 10 on it and it won't upgrade to 11

Fun fact for those of you who might not know, if you have windows 10 and you hate that Search shows search results from the Internet instead of just whats on your computer, you can turn that setting off

Its through the registry keys, so if you can't or don't wanna touch that, this wont work for you lol

i also cannot guarantee this is *safe* exactly

im a chronic messer arounder, and ill dick around with shit on my computer frequently, but i have 0 actual computer knowledge ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

all i can say is that it works and so far ive noticed nothing bad

i think i'm officially becoming one of those people who's (eventually) going to use a version of windows way past its time because there's no way you're gonna get me to switch to windows 11 before, in or after 2025. i simply do not care

#like people that swore on windows 7 for YEARS even when 10 was a thing. but the difference is i hate 7 and love 10. hope this helps #11 is like 8 to me. also it needs to stop looking like macOS #if my computer does eventually kick the bucket (it is 6) or a software requires me to upgrade than like. i *will*. but begrudgingly #anyway this was prompted by that stupid popup #charlie.psd

feel a strong urge to stream fallout 4 or fallout 76 but the insane rig i'd have to do in order to get audio (need a desk mic since my pc ports demand i plug a separate mic and headphones in)

Ugh. Looks like pretty much every program I run now is telling me to upgrade from Windows 8.1 or go suck a nut.

There goes my last iteration of Windows with no forced voice assistant or fucken. Microsoft Edge integration.

It took me only like 2.5-3 hours to install sims 2 and all its expansion packs and 2 stuff packs on my new refurbished Windows 7. There wasn't a single issue. Either my Windows 11 weirdly can't handle Sims 2 being installed or the discs do not work on external CD drives. Anyways, I'm tired its 3:30am I'm quitting for now I'll finish the stuff packs later. Then figuring out how to fully move my game to this computer.

Okay there was some frustration between complete installation, loading, and changing back ups but that was probably partially my fault.

Anyways

Everything is installed and downloaded and all my sims are on the new computer!!!

I may try to install H&M stuff because it worked but I uninstalled it wondering if it was messing with my back ups since I didn't have H&M on my other computer
