The first time Luo Binghe had ever bowed to Shen Qingqiu, tea was spilled over his head.

That memory is hazy now. He doesn't think back to those early days much now that fate has finally, finally opened its cold eyes to his past suffering. Everything important has changed, yet remained the same.

Cang Qiong Sect used to be a place he called home, with a shizun, a childhood friend, and the remaining people who made it a point to show he wasn't wanted there. Now, it's still a home whenever Shizun stays there, the childhood friend still greets him with kindness, even if a little more distant, and the rest of the sect still want him anywhere but there. Nobody dares raise a hand this time.

The past needs no ruminating on. It existed. It passed. It's dead and not mourned anymore.

He bows among the bamboo stalks, eyes on the blue of the sky, the green of the leaves, the tranquillity of the nature. Red robes similar to his own whisper with movement by his side.

Where he is now—when he is now—makes his heart beat faster. Now is good. Now is better than he's ever imagined it would be.

He bows to the wooden box, painted by Shizun himself, filled with precious cargo: his very first jade pendant; an old note with Su Xiyan's and Tianlang-Jun's scribbled handwriting; a wooden tablet with elegant strokes of two given names to the family name of Shen, both unfamiliar to him, offered in fragile silence. In the corner of his eye, Shizun moves in time with him.

Two cups filled with tea rest on a tray between them. The first time he'd ever bowed to Shen Qingqiu, tea was spilled over his head.

This time, when Luo Binghe bows to Shen Qingqiu, Shen Qingqiu bows along with him.

Red-clothed arms linked together, one teacup held in his trembling hand and another resting in Shen Qingqiu's steady one, they drink at the same time.

04/07/2025 Progress Update:

TLDR: Mostly just moving things around in ch 6 today, wrote lots of dialogue exchanges for ch 7

I THOUGHT I wrote more for ch 6 than I did lmao but then looked back on it at the end of the day like… oh that’s only 300 words lmao. I was doing a lot of just moving things around, solidifying scenes, that sorta thing. Then started going down Rantaro conversation again, just fleshing it out.

I’m going to TRY to grit my teeth and just let the Rantaro conversation be how it is right now. I think if I play around with it anymore I’m gonna start losing the sense of why it’s here and I think it’s okay enough to proceed, just needs some slight adjusting. So… we’ll see how I feel later, but if I continue to slave over this thing we’re just gonna get stuck and that’s not what we need to be doing right now lol.

I actually wrote a fuck-ton for ch 7 today though lmao. In commission discussions, it just super got my motivation going to write more stuff for it. I guess as just an aside on that front, I’ve got 5K written for ch 7 already. This one’s gonna be pretty dialogue heavy, and seriously we’ve got some of my favorite scenes in this whole fic in this chapter lmao. Mmm if I had to pick like a favorite favorite scene, I’m gonna say ch 9 or ch 13.

Also fucking the move is finally happening. We’ve been in the middle of it for a while and now we’re suddenly gonna be out by next week lmaoooo so uh… writing time may actually be kinda fleeting for the next 7 days. But we still gonna try 💪

It's really funny to see my fic labeled by their abbreviations, because I rarely think of them that way and I'm here trying to guess which ones they are. I need to give things shorter titles. 😂 this could be permanent is your fault!! I mean, a lot of people liked it, but I was just having trouble getting momentum on it (I think because it's a modern au, which is just not my usual beat), and now, here we are. I might actually finish it (she says, optimistically, as if we're not barely to the middle) Anyway, I'm really grateful for your enthusiasm for it, because it really picked me up when I was feeling really blocked up and depressed at the beginning of the summer. 💕

4. The best ship you've written for

lol, that is objectively the correct answer. 😂 I love them too much. I wish I could branch out and write some other ships or some other fandom, just for a change, but I always get bored with it immediately and would rather just write some other variation on Renruki. They're just...so...💕😍💖💪🐰🔥⚔💯

7. What made me the most emotional after reading

I wrote that bit way, way ahead of most of the rest of act iii, and the fact that I had to get to it is probably the only reason I managed to finish. I mean, I am very fond of a little in love, but all the complicated plotting and misdirections and politics was probably one of the hardest things I have ever had to write. I am very fond of that proposal. My man was trying not to be heartfelt and then he came out with "I will carry your shamisen case across the entire Seireitei. I will always let you have the spicy curry rice." Throw him directly in the garbage.

9. A fic i'm excited for you updating/posting

I am working on it! Writing can be very time-consuming, you see, because I had to take, like, nine hours to make an outfit moodboard for the thing that's going to happen in the next chunk of the story, and I'm probably going to have to draw Rukia's dress, because I only liked bits and pieces of the ones I found and need to combine them visually before I can describe it. Fortunately, this is also the fun part of writing.
