"I could tell you really important parts of this story, which is more than a tease. This is something we were trying to do; we debated a lot about it in live action, and it just was financially impossible to do, which is, the origin story of young Megatron and young Optimus. If you know the origin, they started as friends, and over time things devolved for them and they ended up on two sides. So we're telling the young Optimus and the young Megatron story. We really are telling the origin story of all Transformers, both what they were at the beginning of it, to how they grow, to how they grow apart."
"We’re hoping that there is enough emotional construct to that, that would lead to a trilogy of it because, personally, I think there's a natural trilogy. I'm not always looking to do multiple movies, but there's a natural trilogy around their relationship. So, you're going to see Cybertron in a way you've never seen it, that no one's ever seen it before. Because we're doing an animation, we're allowed to really go all out. If you tried to make this live-action, it would probably be a billion-dollar movie or something."
"You're going to see a lot of the origins of the society, and what broke it apart. The analogy for me is a bit like Krypton when you saw the planet falling apart, and all that. We're not there for a short time, we're there the entire time of the movie, we're on Cybertron, but we are in the challenge that, if you know the lore, they begin to question the hierarchy of how their society has gotten stratified, and how the common man doesn't have the voice, entirely, that they want to have. We're following very true to the origin story of it, and so it's really fun, too, because I've gotten to see some of it – it's not fully executed by any stretch of the imagination, but hearing Optimus and Megatron not as who we know them as, which we see their maturation in this experience. So, in a sense, you're hearing a different character because you're hearing them before they have matured."
"It's not a coming-of-age story. I don't think you’d believe that, in a way, but I would say they're young men who are finding their path. Like I said, it's more than a tease, that's what the story is, and that's the experience you're going to go through. And how they question society, just like all of us, too, could question our society. We’re maybe not as strong as Megatron and Optimus, so maybe we wouldn't make the same choices, but I think it's really going to be an eye-opener for the fans. For the non-fans, you're going to get to meet the characters in their early formation."
"I would say this, we don't spend a lot of time thinking about two and three because it's always hard to do one well. But there is a natural trilogy coming out of this friendship where you can see the divisions and the possible attractions to each other, and why that should play out over three movies, is very natural. So we have a good sense in the broadest terms, but in the broadest terms, we know what the second movie would be about and the third movie would be about through the eyes of what this relationship's going through. So the exact plotting, we haven't worked on that, but how that relationship evolves, devolves, evolves, devolves, all that stuff, that's what's going to drive it if we get lucky, if the first one's a success."

How to write genius level characters? :(
One of the most reliable measures of intelligence today is the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale—currently in its 5th edition, with an upcoming edition in the works.
Using the tool/scale, scores are converted into nominal categories designated by certain cutoff boundaries for quick reference:
Measured IQ Range — Category
145-160: Very gifted or highly advanced
130–144: Gifted or very advanced
120–129: Superior
110–119: High average
90–109: Average
80–89: Low average
70–79: Borderline impaired or delayed
55–69: Mildly impaired or delayed
40–54: Moderately impaired or delayed
To write your "genius" character, you may want them within the Gifted to Very Gifted categories.
Note: With reference to this list, Roid (2003) cautioned that “the important concern is to describe the examinee’s skills and abilities in detail, going beyond the label itself”. The primary value of such labels is as a shorthand reference in some psychological reports.
These are the factors measured by the scale, and you ideally should aim for your "genius" character/s to exhibit high levels of:
Fluid Reasoning: Novel problem solving; understanding of relationships that are not culturally bound
Knowledge: Skills and knowledge acquired by formal and informal education
Quantitative Reasoning: Knowledge of mathematical thinking including number concepts, estimation, problem solving, and measurement
Visual-Spatial Processing: Ability to see patterns and relationships and spatial orientation as well as the gestalt among diverse visual stimuli
Working Memory: Cognitive process of temporarily storing and then transforming or sorting information in memory
Or maybe your character doesn't excel in all of these areas but in a specific one, or just a few of these. Maybe they perform within the average or high average in some, but are highly gifted in other areas.
The following may also guide you in writing your genius character, based on research compiled by Dr. J. Renzulli, which can be found in the Mensa Gifted Youth Handbook:
Characteristics of Giftedness

Needs little external motivation to follow through in work that initially excited him or her
Strives toward perfection; is self-critical; is not easily satisfied with his or her own speed and products
Prefers to work independently; requires little direction from teachers
Is interested in many "adult" problems such as religion, politics, sex and race
Stubborn in his or her beliefs
Concerned with right and wrong, good and bad
CREATIVITY CHARACTERISTICS

Live from New York, It’s Dylan O’Brien!
The 33-year-old plays Dan Aykroyd in Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night, and he’s not sure he hit it out of the park. But he’s okay with that.
DYLAN O’BRIEN HAS led movies that grossed hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office. He’s shared the screen in a thriller with Michael Keaton (2017’s American Assassin), exchanged jokes with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson (in 2013’s The Internship), been a long-running MTV teen heartthrob (in 92 episodes of Teen Wolf), voiced a Transformer (in 2018’s Bumblebee), and, hell, went toe to toe with Larry David while playing himself on Curb Your Enthusiasm. At 33, he’s accomplished a hell of a lot.
By the time we meet at Men’s Health’s New York City offices to chat on an early September Friday, I’ve already seen a lot of his work. I’ve always liked the way his relaxed demeanor on-screen fits with an undeniable movie-star look—and that holds true in his latest project, Saturday Night (in select theaters now and out nationwide on October 11), in which he stars as comedy legend and original Saturday Night Live cast member Dan Aykroyd; the movie is a depiction of the chaotic 90 minutes before the very first episode of SNL. But I wasn’t sold on his sheer determination—the pure conviction in his character—until I learned that, like myself, he’s a long-suffering fan of the New York Jets.
“I get psyched for the Jets,” he tells me, rocking a full beard, a T-shirt, and a pair of comfortable lacrosse shorts. As he finishes his thought, his eyes light up, but they maintain the slightest sense of eternal frustration behind them. “Even though it’s always like, Jesus Christ.”
Misfortunes of past football seasons aside, O’Brien is as hyped as he’s ever been for the season to come—he’s already done all of his fantasy drafts, though he feels better about some than others—but right now he has one potential problem: He’s going to be in Toronto, for the Toronto International Film Festival, on the night of the Jets season opener. But don’t worry, he’s got it figured out. Saturday Night’s premiere is on Tuesday, and his press schedule on Monday (when the Jets are set to play the San Francisco 49ers) concludes at 5:30 p.m.
“I’m like, I’m going to a pub. I’m getting out of the area, and I’m just going to sit and have some beer and watch the Jets on Monday night all by myself,” he says with a huge smile on his face. “It’s going to be awesome.”
It’s a relatable feeling—for most Jets fans, there’s no happier time than before the season starts, before the annual feelings of dread and doom start to set in. (The Jets would wind up losing to the 49ers, 32-19, in their Week 1 MNF matchup.) But, as Jets fans have learned so well to do over the years, we move on.
O’Brien has a long career behind him, but a long career ahead of him, too. In addition to his upcoming role in Saturday Night (which has earned strong reviews in the early goings), he’s also got the M. Night Shyamalan-produced Caddo Lake premiering on Max this month, and Anniversary, in which he stars alongside Diane Lane and Kyle Chandler, coming at some point in the near future. (It doesn’t currently have a release date.) O’Brien is the kind of actor who elevates the project he’s in, even when the project is already really, really good—but if there’s anything being a Jets fan says about someone, it’s that they know how to adjust, adapt, and bounce back. And in an industry as fickle as show business—which is put on full display in Saturday Night—that’s about as important a quality as any to have in your back pocket.
Ahead of the release of several of the biggest and most exciting projects of his career, O’Brien sat down with Men’s Health to discuss how he keeps himself sane and centered, prepping to play a comedy icon, and some of those casting rumors about him out there on the Internet.
MEN’S HEALTH: What kind of routines do you maintain for your mental and physical health?
DYLAN O’BRIEN: I don’t go to the gym. I’m not a gym guy, but that doesn’t mean I don’t exercise or train or anything. I would say I go in and out of that. I’m usually the type who’s either on a pretty consistent routine and trying to hit it hard and take care of myself for a period of time, and then I’ll let it go for a little bit. Some of that’s influenced by my schedule, too. When you go to work, it’s hard to keep up some kind of regimen. But when I’m home and I’m in between jobs, I’ve become a very domesticated individual. I love grocery shopping and cooking my own meals.
MH: What’s your favorite thing to make?
DOB: If I had to pick one thing, I love, to the soul, making a soup. It’s literally the first thing I’ll do when I go anywhere to settle in. Just a homemade chicken soup, with a chicken carcass, and get creative with the veggies.
MH: Do you have a mental health routine?
DOB: That’s typically what drives the eating and the exercising. I always feel best when I’m in a nice routine and taking care of myself. As I’ve gotten into my 30s, sleep is so important, and periods of laying off alcohol are so important. Just treating your body right and getting rest. I like to do a cold plunge session, and that’s very meditative for me. I’ll follow the simple program of “exhaust the body, relax the mind” when I’m going right.
“I was self-conscious that I DIDN’T LOOK LIKE HIM, that I DIDN’T SOUND LIKE HIM, that I thought people wouldn’t think me—Dan Aykroyd.”
MH: I totally understand the concept of using whatever levels us as therapy. Sometimes after work I just need to put the Yankees on and do absolutely nothing in order to fully detox and feel right.
DOB: That’s my soul. The Mets… obviously, baseball is a nearly every day thing. And even when the Mets are not going well, what’s soothed me since I was closely following them when I was a kid is [broadcasters Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling]. Literally, even just throwing the game on in the background while I’m getting dinner ready and just listening to those guys talk baseball—that settles me to my core. I’m totally with you on that.
MH: Is watching sports your main way of decompressing at the end of a long day?
DOB: If it’s baseball season, yeah, nightly Mets is nice. If I’m working, I’ve been known to be on jobs and randomly be bingeing some reality show while I’m on it. It’s such a decompressor at the end of the day. I love reality TV.
MH: What’s your favorite?
DOB: Of all time?
MH: Yeah.
DOB: Well, it’s between Jersey Shore and Vanderpump Rules as far as the all-timers. I’ve been a longtime OG Vanderpump fan, pre-Scandoval, and I just think that show’s a masterpiece. And Jersey Shore is a masterpiece, too. I did a film, Ponyboi, that’s very Jersey-centric, and so I drilled all of the first four seasons of Jersey Shore. My whole routine for that movie, when I needed to decompress, was just working out and watching reality TV. I lost a lot of weight, too, for that movie, and I was just trying to make my little chicken breast, and eat my salad, and work out, and watch Jersey Shore.
MH: Let’s talk about Saturday Night. How would you describe your version of Dan Aykroyd?
DOB: It might be the thing most open to interpretation I’ve ever done. By that, I mean it really was just leaping out of the nest. I’m playing this real person, but [director Jason Reitman] had no intention of just copying the person coming in. He really wanted everyone to have their own spin on the person, which, if you’re overthinking it, can be tough to do because it can be very easy to do. If you’re like, I’m just going to watch my guy’s interviews and sketches, then you can kind of fall into imitation. As far as I know, I was just doing what I thought he was like. But I don’t fucking know. That instinct was that Jason was always telling me what to run with. He was big on not overpreparing, not overwatching things, and not impersonating. I’m curious to hear people’s take, because I don’t really know. I just went with my gut.
MH: Was there one signature quality of Dan you wanted to capture?
DOB: A very earnest intelligence—he’s so quick, it was exhausting. I would always say how exhausted I was, because I’m playing someone who’s way quicker than I am, and so I’m constantly operating at a speed I can’t operate at, because he’s so sharp and fast and he never fumbles and he never curses. He never bides time. You know what I mean?
MH: Absolutely.
DOB: He’s so precise with his improvisation and his comedic skills. I came away with such a larger appreciation than I even had for his genius. And he was so young—he was a kid. He was 23 on that first season of SNL. I never processed him as being too worried about too much, which was a funny contrasting energy to the very tense atmosphere of the film in the hour and a half before showtime. He’s so loose.
MH: It’s interesting you say that, because it’s something I totally clocked, too—Dan is kind of the calm part of a storm that includes people like Chevy Chase (Cory Michael Smith) and John Belushi (Matt Wood). How did you maintain that presence as the movie’s level head?
DOB: My way of achieving that, with permission from Jason, was to embrace this quality in myself that I didn’t originally associate to Dan—that I only then did after Jason pointed it out to me—which was to have an aloofness on set. I feel very relaxed in that space. In a way, I wasn’t too worried. But that comes with the caveat that I entered this process thinking I was so wrong for the part.
MH: Why did you think that?
DOB: I don’t know. I was self-conscious that I didn’t look like him, that I didn’t sound like him, that I thought people wouldn’t think me—Dan Aykroyd. And I guess it was an insecurity that I would be skewered for being miscast or something. But even with that insecurity, again, I’m still so happy to be there and, like, whatever, fuck it. I don’t care if that’s the response. I’m boned, but whatever. It’s great to be here and get to do this, and what a blast of a thing to get to be a part of. So, weirdly enough, that type of aloofness amidst other people having to handle some really tense stuff was what Jason was telling me to embrace.
MH: Have you met Dan?
DOB: No. Not yet. I’m supposed to meet him at TIFF. And apparently that will be both of our first times seeing the movie.
MH: That will be great.
DOB: There was a moment early on, when you go into something like this, you’re playing someone, you imagine that they might want to speak to you. They might be hell-bent on speaking to you, they might be crazy about getting their hands in it, or they might be totally hands off. And to hear that he was so not worried about it, if anything, was the first moment I was like, Oh, maybe we’re right. Because I would’ve met with him, too, but I also didn’t need it. I would have if he insisted. I’d be like, Of course—I’ve got to do that. But I vibe with the fact that he was like, no, let the kid go do it. That’s how I feel like I would react.
MH: What’s your favorite movie of his?
DOB: I was a big Blues Brothers kid. I did the Blues Brothers for my talent show in third grade. I was also a big Tommy Boy kid.
MH: I’ve loved a lot of the comedic stuff that you’ve gotten to do, including your Curb Your Enthusiasm guest appearance. What was working with Larry like?
DOB: Oh, it’s just a blast. He’s a Jets fan, too—I remember that was our first conversation we had. It was like I was just talking to a buddy, at [the popular TriBeCa bar] Walker’s, or something about the Jets. I’ve worked with a lot of comedians, and that space can be weird. The energy can be very overstimulating, and those personalities can tend to be really loud and competing. It can be a very odd atmosphere sometimes. Going to work with a guy like that… I was like, Who knows, he could be a fucking total narcissist tycoon, and he wasn’t. He couldn’t have been more generous, couldn’t have been quicker to laugh at someone else and let someone else have the spotlight. I couldn’t think more of the guy. He’s amazing.
MH: It’s been almost a decade since your accident on the Maze Runner set. When you look back at your recovery, how has that experience most impacted your life?
DOB: It was a life-changing incident. I’ve approached everything differently, you could say, particularly with regards to standing my ground on set. It’s very commonplace in the culture for young actors to be controlled, and the way they strive to do that is by always being like, Oh, don’t become difficult. Don’t be a pain in the ass. Or Are you complaining, are you being difficult? Things like that. I learned after the accident to not conflate taking care of yourself and looking after yourself. Don’t let them manipulate you into thinking that is being difficult, because I can look at that day and know I was a 24-year-old kid who was raising concerns about how we were approaching things, and they were not listened to, they were not respected. And then what happened happened. And by all accounts, it was all pretty gotten away with, I would say, as well. It’s taught me that, at the end of the day, in these spaces, you have your own back, and that’s the most you can rely on. I just turned 33. I’ve been doing this for 15 years. I know the person I am, and the character I bring to set, and the way I treat people and the way that I treat a workspace, and I know I’m not difficult. I know I’m not an asshole. I know I was trying to protect myself that day, and so I’ve just never forgotten that. That’s always rung true as being the thing to hold with me.
“It’s taught me that, at the end of the day, in these spaces, you HAVE YOUR OWN BACK, and that’s the MOST YOU CAN RELY ON.”
MH: And this is something that’s always in the back of your mind, just knowing that you’ve had this experience and it’s shaped where you are now.
DOB: It helps me. It’s a shame. It’s a shame that it had to be that for me. To build this armor for myself of just being like, No, man, I’m going to look after myself, I’m going to take care of myself, and there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s nothing wrong with asking questions. There’s nothing wrong with bringing ideas, even if we’re talking creatively. It’s our job to bring ideas. There’s nothing wrong with raising concerns. There’s nothing wrong with being like, “I think we could do this better, I think we could do this differently.” You know what I mean? That’s the process. It’s a collaborative process. It’s a creative process, but also you’re dealing with big dangerous shit sometimes, too.
MH: Throughout the years, you’ve been rumored to become the Flash and Spider-Man. Is there any truth to the rumors?
DOB: No, never.
MH: Nothing?
DOB: No, none of it. Yeah.
MH: Is that of interest if an opportunity ever came up? Are you a comic book person?
DOB: I never have been. But I wouldn’t rule out anything. Certainly, it’s not of interest to me as of now. Maybe when I was 20 and they were rebooting Spider-Man—I was excited about that. But I didn’t even get past the casting pre-call or anything. No, none of those rumors have ever been true. I didn’t even know there were rumors. I just thought they were people just putting it out there.
MH: People put a bunch of stuff out there and then places pick it up and then stuff snowballs.
DOB: None of anything I’ve ever read about myself is true. So, if you want to use that template, that’s my experience.
MH: So what is of interest to you? What’s your dream?
DOB: There are obviously filmmakers I’ve loved since I was a kid who I would love to work with. I always want to challenge myself, and I always want to go with my gut and trust when I respond to something, I’m responding to it for a reason. Trust that when I’m scared of something, maybe that’s a good thing I should lean into. Try to find the new filmmakers, and try to champion them, and be a part of the early parts of the careers of our new wave of filmmakers. Try to champion original things as much as I can, too. I feel like that’s obviously trending so much further and further away, and towards extinction, that I just feel like it’s important to lend yourself to those things when you can, as much as you can.

Sebastian Stan Appreciates Taking Things 'A Little Less Seriously'
The actor caught up with L'OFFICIEL at the CFDA Fashion Awards to discuss wearing Thom Browne and his transformative roles in A Different Man and The Apprentice.

On camera and off, Sebastian Stan is always aware of what he is wearing, whether he's suited up as the Winter Soldier in Captain America or sporting jeans and a T-shirt on a day off. The actor— who stars in and is winning over buzz for his transformative performances in A Different Man and The Apprentice—represented Thom Browne at the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards on October 28 in New York City at the American Museum of Natural History. For the event, Stan wore a full Thom Browne look: a classic ticket pocket tuxedo with self-tipping in black, 3-ply mohair; a knit vest in black cashmere; a classic button-up shirt in white oxford; a necktie in black silk faille; and penny loafers in black patent leather.
In A Different Man, Stan plays an aspiring actor with neurofibromatosis who has facial reconstructive surgery that dramatically alters his appearance. In The Apprentice, Stan plays former President Donald Trump in a film that follows his rise to power, focusing on his mentor-mentee relationship with lawyer Roy Cohn, portrayed by Jeremy Strong from Succession. Stan received critical acclaim for his performances in both films, and is now a likely contender for the upcoming awards season.
At the CFDAs, Stan told L’OFFICIEL about his look for the night, his connection to Thom Browne, and how clothing and costumes impact his performances. Read on for the interview.

L’O: Tell me about your look for the CFDA awards.
Sebastian Stan: Thom Browne’s take on black tie-not traditional, polished in a new way and comfortable while being structured. I appreciate taking things a little less seriously, especially during awards season. I love my straight tie and knit vest—less serious, but certainly not less appropriate.
L'O: How would you describe your off-duty style? What do you wear on a day off?
SS: Jeans and a tee shirt.
L’O: What character that you’ve played is most likely to wear Thom Browne?
SS: Carter Baizen would wear the hell out of a Thom Browne suit.

Sebastian Stan in Thom Browne for the CFDA Awards 2024
L’O: Your roles in A Different Man and The Apprentice are very physical performances... and so is Bucky Barnes. How do you approach creating a character’s physicality?
SS: It all actually starts from the inside out. Muscles have memory. We wear our pains, our pride, our truth: the ones we project and the ones we keep hidden from the world. It all depends on what’s driving somebody…The need for love, the need to be heard, the need to prove, the need to hide, etc. Everything influences how you move and you walk. Obviously when you’re playing real people the clues are already there to study. Like an instrument. With something like A Different Man, there’s a backstory and the prosthetics influenced everything. Similar with Bucky Barnes. His past is always in his body.
L’O: How do clothes and costumes enhance your performance?
SS: I love costumes because they speak for themselves. When you walk in a room immediately people look at you and what you’re wearing tells a story. The choices one makes in terms of portraying themselves to the world are very revealing. So costumes are a big piece of the character before any words are even said. They also influence the way you walk. I’m particular about shoes. What kind of shoes a character wears. Sneakers make you walk a certain way boots a totally different way. Maybe you stand up taller as a result and so on. Same with clothes. A suit affects everything. So does a pair of jeans you’ve lived in for a decade.

As a Transformers fan, do you like when GI Joe crosses over with it or is it just kinda eye rolling whenever it happens cuz of the kinda property that GI Joe is?
As a Transformers fan who was not alive in the '80s and has never seen the original GI Joe cartoon, GI Joe has become like a cancerous growth coming out of the neck of the Transformers franchise
No, but, I dunno. GI Joe's whatever. It's fine. If I ever sat down and watched it I'd probably enjoy the old cartoon for the same reasons why I enjoy all of those old toy cartoons from the '80s like Transformers and He-Man and TMNT. They're campy, goofy, low-budget fun where they threw every stupid idea at the wall to see what stuck. The military theming doesn't bother me, especially when it's so absurd and divorced from the real world.
But hardly anyone under the age of 40 gives a shit about GI Joe these days, and it's telling that all of these repeated attempts to make it relevant again now involve piggybacking off of Transformers to try and create some kind of shared universe, whether it's the former IDW comics or the current Skybound comics or the upcoming film(s). They've given up on all other avenues of trying to create new generations of GI Joe fans, because they just haven't worked since the '80s. There's been no modern day update to GI Joe that's worked on its own terms without being attached to Transformers. There hasn't been a new GI Joe cartoon since the one that aired on The Hub in 2010, which was canceled after one season. (In that time we've had half a dozen new Transformers cartoons.) The only GI Joe movie released in the last decade (Snake Eyes) was a massive bomb. They only make toys for the aging adult collectors now. Attaching it to Transformers, which remains perpetually popular and picks up new fans anytime something good comes out, is the only play they have left.
So I tend to roll my eyes when GI Joe shit comes up in Transformers fiction I otherwise enjoy because it's like, god, now I gotta pay attention to that shit too to understand the story? Leave me alone. If I cared about GI Joe I would already be reading the GI Joe comics. It just feels like I'm being given homework.

Speaking of the upcoming Moominvalley film, those writers better not completely blow it again because this is their last chance to make everything A-Moominvalley-Ok. Otherwise, I might combust and have my peak villain arc transformation or something like that.
I've been saying this and I'll say it again. I don't CARE if Snufmin dies or doesn't become canon. Would I absolutely freak and throw a crazy party if it did? Yes! Absolutely! That's probably an under exaggeration of how I'd celebrate. But would I bat an eyelash if Snufmin didn't become canon? Nope. I would not care or throw a fit because all I want is a continuation of s3 and not the prequel mess that s4 was.
That's literally all I want. More Snufkin on screen, more Snufmin moments, the s3 character arcs and plots, and everyone's biggest wish rn, a certain father and son to meet. Or at least acknowledge the fact that they're related.
Is that really too much to ask??

In some unexpected, but exciting news, Tokyo Disney Resort has announced that Tokyo Disneyland is set to receive an attraction based on the popular Wreck-It Ralph film franchise! The new Sugar Rush attraction is scheduled to open in Tomorrowland at Tokyo Disneyland during fiscal year 2026 or later.
The upcoming attraction will replace Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, slated for closure in October 2024. Sugar Crush will be an indoor interactive gameplay experience perfect for guests all ages. The reimagined attraction will be the first Wreck-It Ralph-themed ride at any Disney Park worldwide.
According to Disney, the attraction will see guests enter the candy-themed racing game Sugar Rush, which is being attacked by Sugar Bugs – glitches created by King Candy. Guests will team up with the beloved film characters Ralph and Vanellope to transform the Sugar Bugs back to their original “kawaii” confectionery including as cookies and cakes.
Tokyo Disney Resort has released concept art of the ride experience, featuring guests aboard omnimover ride vehicles equipped with laser guns, zapping away Sugar Bugs. Additional renderings have been released of the Sugar Rush ride entrance, alongside the revitalized Tomorrowland Square, as depicted in the concept art for the forthcoming Space Mountain rebuild and Tomorrowland renovation.

KINDRED — 27
It’s your final year of highschool, and your only goal is to graduate top of your cohort, as usual. Except as student council president, your advisor can’t seem to leave you alone. What happens when you take Decelis Academy’s top student, their star athlete and put them in front of a camera?
smau + written (1.7k words)
❥・• episode 27 — you were brighter than the moon
You fix your gaze on the countdown to your upcoming mid-terms, a series of numbers and dates scrawled in the corner of the whiteboard by your homeroom teacher. You’re reminded of the pressure of these impending exams, which had, unbeknownst to you, taken a backseat during the month-long documentary filming and now once again weighs heavily on your shoulders.
Turning your attention to your side, you're surprised to find Jungwon fully engaged in the class. However, it's impossible to ignore the telltale signs of exhaustion etched beneath his eyes, dark circles that stand testament to the late nights you both have spent together.
A pang of guilt gnaws at you, fearing you might be holding him back, yet in all honesty, the passage of time had become a blurred concept as you delved into the countless practice papers. At that moment, Jungwon was the least of your problems (or so you thought).
As you sit there, pondering the delicate balance between your academic responsibilities and the documentary project, you marvel at how Jungwon manages to keep up with his training amidst everything that’s been going on. Contrary to your earlier assumptions, you discover that Jungwon is someone who—if he puts his mind to—can do anything. You sense the weight of his expectations, as he never once complained about your unconventional study habits during this time of the year.
Remembering Jake's impatience when it came to staying even a minute past 6 pm, Jungwon remains quiet, his focus unwavering on his work. He would occasionally ask you questions, his hard-headed determination shining through when he couldn't quite figure out how to solve a problem. Somewhere, at some point, between the late nights and the whispered questions—your relationship has transformed into something more than just a play-pretend study partnership.
It’s a budding of a bond neither of you had anticipated at the start of all this.
As the bell rings, signalling the end of another school day, you exchange a fleeting glance with Jungwon, and something unspoken passes between you. Today, you're not going to settle for sitting on the floor.
With your bag lightly slung over your shoulders, you dash out of the classroom, Jungwon hot on your heels. You spot familiar faces making their way toward the campus library, fueling your competitive spirit even more. Just as you're about to sprint ahead, you feel the weight of your bag magically lifted from your shoulder.
Confused, you look over to see Jungwon running ahead of you, your eyes meet and you're instantly spellbound by the sight of your bag securely strapped to the front of his chest.
"At this rate, we won't be able to get a seat again. Hurry up, slowpoke," he teases, a mischievous glint in his eyes. His words wrap around you like a warm embrace, and your heart swells with affection. You can't help but smile, grateful for his unwavering support as you both rush towards the library.
The soft hush of whispers and the gentle rustling of pages filled the air. The scent of old books and the soft glow of study lamps created an atmosphere of quiet serenity. You and Jungwon quickly scanned the room, searching for an empty spot to claim as your own. He quickly spotted an area, his fingers guiding you to a table nestled in a corner, where a small window allowed a stream of pale sunlight to spill across, casting a golden sheen on the worn wooden surface.
Initially, the study session began much like the countless others you'd shared with Jungwon. He would be restless and easily distracted during the initial hour, struggling to settle into the task at hand. It was a pattern you'd grown accustomed to, one that had led you to underestimate him.
However, today is tinged with a different energy, one that you can't quite define but unquestionably sense.
It all started with his subtle gestures, actions that he had been doing all along, yet you had only recently begun to truly notice. You'd be in search of an eraser, and Jungwon would smoothly place it in your hand before you could even voice your request. Similarly, in moments of absentminded hunger, you'd casually mention it, and he'd promptly offer you packets of your favourite gummies as if he already knew that it would happen beforehand.
From the moment you take out your study materials and textbooks to flipping them to the page you'd left off the previous night, there's a mesmerising synergy at play. It felt as though you and Jungwon were two halves of a single whole.
Your fingers would brush against each other as you reach for the same pencil, and a subtle yet electrifying connection would crackle between you. In that moment, you're certain you're not the only one who feels this profound connection.
The hours slipped away as you delved into your studies and occasionally, Jungwon's gaze would lift from his notes, and you'd meet his eyes, sharing a quiet, encouraging smile. Something about him was magnetic—pulling you in before you could even come to the realisation that you were already in too deep.
"You're going to get a cavity from the amount of gummies you've eaten in the past hour," Jungwon teases as you polish off yet another packet, its remnants joining the growing pile of gummy wrappers at the corner of your desk.
"Leave me and my gummies alone; it's the only thing keeping me sane," you retort half-jokingly, a playful glint in your eye. Your words seem to have sparked a curiosity in him, and his face takes on a familiar inquisitive expression.
"Why do you like eating these gummies so much anyway?" Jungwon wonders as he pulls out another packet, opening it before passing them to you.
Though flustered by the gesture that came so naturally, you try not to react.
"Whenever I'm stressed or upset, I drown myself in these calorie-induced sweets, and I just feel better than I did before," you explain, offering a sheepish smile as you pop another gummy, this one shaped like a snake, into your mouth.
"Why?"
You hesitate for a moment, the gummy's fruity sweetness lingering on your tongue. "I don't know, Won. It just does," you shrug, pondering the unspoken comfort these simple candies bring. Another epiphany that got you thinking—you really don’t know.
"No, I'm asking why you're upset," he clarifies as he settles down his pen, gaze looking up and into your eyes filled with genuine concern. This time, you didn’t manage to hide your flustered expression as a crimson tint finds its way across your cheeks.
“I didn’t know you cared so much about me, Yang Jungwon.” Though you try your best to play it cool, sheer panic courses through your veins and it seems your reaction has set something off in him as well.
Jungwon clears his throat, his gaze returning to the challenging problem sum he's been wrestling with for the past half-hour. "Well, who's going to be my teacher if you're sick?" he stammers, his words a mix of jest and genuine sentiment, the subtlest of smiles playing at the corners of his lips.
The hours drag on, feeling excruciatingly slow as your mind dances back and forth between your work and Jungwon. It's as if he's invaded and completely taken over your mind, conquering every corner of your attention and guiding you astray from what truly matters right now—the exams.
With the filming crew already having long dismantled their equipments, leaving with enough footage for the day, you’d might as well do the same.
"This is going nowhere, let's call it a day," you say with a hint of frustration, dropping your head into your hands and letting out an exasperated sigh.
"Already? It’s only a little past seven-”
"I've lost all my focus," you confess, a blush creeping onto your cheeks. For some reason, admitting this feels awkward, and Jungwon seems to sense your unease and chooses not to press you for an explanation.
With a determined look, he leans forward. "Come on, I'll walk you home."
You begin to object, "You don't have to, I'll be fine," but he cuts you off, his tone resolute.
"I'm not fine. It’s late, I’ll walk you home." Jungwon insists, swiftly gathering the scattered papers into the depths of his bag, leaving no room for further argument. You don’t refute after that, knowing damn well he was going to do it his way anyway—that’s Jungwon for you.
The walk home with the boy is a smooth journey filled with a comfortable silence. The streetlights cast a soft, golden glow on the rocky path, creating a cosy ambience as you make your way through the tranquil neighbourhood. The night sky stretches above, adorned with a sprinkle of stars that twinkle like a distant fever dream.
There's a certain magic in the air, a subtle but distinct connection that has forged between the two of you over countless hours of studying and shared moments.
Every so often, you would sneak glances at Jungwon, appreciating the way the soft illumination accentuates the contours of his face. The breeze, carrying a hint of pre-winter rain, ruffles your hair as you walk side by side. Unable to resist, you sneak more glances, admiring the way his eyes shimmer with the starlight, and the faint shadow of a smile that plays on his lips.
As you near your doorstep, Jungwon stops and turns to face you, his expression a warm and reassuring gesture on this cold and breezy night. "I suppose this is it," he says with a gentle smile to which you return, feeling a sense of gratitude for his company. "Thanks for walking me home, Won."
His gaze lingers for a moment, and then, as if an unspoken question hangs in the air, he leans in and gently pats your head. You shrink back slightly at the unexpected intimacy, feeling time slow down as his touch leaves a lingering warmth on your skin. When he pulls back, you meet his eyes with a shy but affectionate smile.
"Goodnight, Y/N," he whispers, his voice carrying a soft, tender note.
"Goodnight," your heart flutters as he leaves you standing at your doorstep.

Onyx Prime is one I have a semi complicated feeling towards.
The Prime of Beasts, and borrowing his name from an obscure Beast Wars character, he’s meant to explain why some Transformers have Beast Modes. It’s not … super clear if this includes the various Mechanimals like Laserbeak and Ravage, or Cyberverse’s various menagerie.
But presumably it does, as that would mean the deer bots seen in ONE are related to Onyx too, as they’re the only non Prime Beast Moded robot. ONE Airachnid’s toy gives her a space spider Beast Mode, but she only turns into a space helicopter Vehicle Mode in the film, so it’s unknown if she’s a Triple Changer or if her Beast Mode was an early script idea.
ONE Onyx, like Alchemist, Quintus, Micronus, Vector, Nexus, Prima, & Solus, doesn’t really get to do anything except die by the hands of Sentinel & the Quints. His Cog is donated to the main heroes, but who got it isn’t clear. I think Megatron did because of his beastly nature at that point, but I also think it fits Elita pretty well.
His design is a hybrid of his IDW and Aligned designs, taking more from the IDW design with the colors and beast kibble.
An interesting quirk is the ONE design borrows heavily from the semi confusion of his IDW design. Oynx is supposed to be a centaur, but IDW artists opted to have him stand on his hind legs, with his fore legs dangling awkwardly.
This would be turned into foreshadowing, to imply Oynx wasn’t what he seemed, revealing that he was actually Shockwave due to comic book time paradox reasons.
The awkward posture was due to Shockwave wearing Onyx’s corpse like a Pretender Shell, being unable to copy the original centaur look. Hilariously the ONE design foregoes the centaur look altogether, but nothing has clarified on if the centaur is his actual Beast Mode, or if he turns into a different creature in a BM Savage Noble fashion… His TFONE model implies he might Transform into a space dragon, or if we want to meet half way on the centaur idea, a space griffin.
As such, Onyx’s only major role has been IDW, and it technically wasn’t even him. The actual IDW Onyx was a kind shepherd who Shockwave killed after landing on prehistoric Cybertron following his failed Dark Cybertron scheme.
Pretending to be Onyx, Shockwave guaranteed events on Cybertron played out as he knew them to, as well as raising a Beast army (from all the Beast Wars characters in their most unflattering role) and securing the mysterious magical Talisman as part of a new scheme involving Unicron.
It’s always bothered me though that the one place Onyx would’ve fit well as a central antagonist would’ve been RiD15 because of it’s heavy use of animal type Decepticons. It would’ve made more sense if Oynx was the one orchestrating the crash of the prison ship, but Steeljaw makes Oynx’s mission his own: to turn Earth into a home world for Decepticons, rather than beast bots. Oynx isn’t exactly nice here either, causing problems for the Autobots, because he has a chip on his shoulder over vehicle type Transformers due to problems from his past. Something like that might’ve been better than hyping up The Fallen, causing the same problem TFP had by using Unicron too soon.
With the upcoming CyberWorld possibly returning to a RiD15 Beast theme with its Decepticons (while the Autobots remember they have more Dinobots besides Grimlock), maybe Onyx Prime has a role there?

Sulani: Evening
(Written for @akitasimblr's Mad About Dodo Challenge ❤️ This got very long. I cannot do short lines of dialogue that convey so much like some of you out there :x The last two paragraphs are the only ones that matter)
(Also I owe a lot to @dead-lights for her interpretation of Darrel. Thank you for giving him so may layers!)
GEMMA: So. Why are we here? DARREL: I know why I’m here. The question is, why are you here? GEMMA: Ah, c’mon man. Sulani. The cushiest and most exclusive resort on the whole island. Even more cushy and exclusive now that they’re filming Mad About Dodo. DARREL: Mad about what now? Mundanes still believe that they exist?
GEMMA: No, you doofus. Only the hottest reality tv show in the Simsverse. And Dodo Harper is the bachelor. DARREL: The twin of He Who Shall Not Be Named?
GEMMA: Now look around us. It’s a beautiful sunset. About to be a beautiful night. Why do you darken my day by bringing up that turd and his pro-vampire propaganda piece? DARREL: That’s usually my line. GEMMA: And it was totally when he was banging that one lady fanger too. Why do you masc type Sims have to go and lose any mote of common sense the instant you get your wands wet- DARREL: Gemma.
GEMMA: Okay, you have a little more sense than the rest of them. I’ll give you that. In fact, some days I think that you were born with a broomstick shoved so far up your arse that Emilia’s still pulling the fragments out- DARREL: Gemma.
GEMMA: So prove me otherwise by letting your absolute favouritist sister stay with you while you’re here for work? Pretty please? I’ll even cook you dinner. DARREL: I can Delicioso my own dinner. So can you. GEMMA: But then it won’t be made with love. Pleaaaase?
DARREL: Alright. Fine. But only because I know that you’ll get into worse mischief if I say no. GEMMA: A gentleman and a scholar! DARREL: Back on the premises no later than eleven o’clock. And if I’m out for the night, you’ll stay with Duane Talla and his caregivers. GEMMA: You’re the best!
Somewhere nearby, a loading screen blips, deposits a Sim on the nearby shore (he never even got peanuts on his ride). A Wildfang emerges.
LOU: Well, hey. Had no idea I’d be working with spellcaster royalty. If I’d known, I’d have taken a longer wolf bath before boarding the loading screen. DARREL: Great. My associate is a Wildfang. GEMMA: Darrel, be cool. Don’t mind my brother. He doesn’t actually hate werewolves. DARREL: I don’t. I’m wary of them. No offence. GEMMA: He just miscast a spell one day and his face has been frozen like that ever since. So sad.
DARREL: I did not miscast a spell. GEMMA: Whatever. I however am a werewolf ally. LOU: I can tell by the lack of tense moodlets on you. Awoo! DARREN: How does that even apply when you’re not transformed?
LOU: For you, baby? I can transform. GEMMA: Don’t bother. He’s engaged and not the slightest bit interested in that throuple update coming to base game. Though he supports it in principle. DARREN: Yeah. See this finger?
LOU: Bro. Wrong finger. And that was hurtful. DARREN: Ah plum. Look, I’m just juggling a lot at the moment with the wedding and an upcoming trial- GEMMA: He’s going to be a Master Caster… DARREN: And for all I know, you’re a decent enough guy. But when I was told that I’d be working with a werewolf, I was expecting someone with more of a… reputation for polish and professionalism. Someone from the Collective, maybe.
GEMMA: Guys, it will be fine. This big secret thing that you’re not telling me, that is. Maybe you can start over by trading hair care tips? Even though Darrel only has the second best ‘do of all the spellcasters. DARREN: Ember has to be using some kind of untamed magic. I just know it. Therefore it doesn’t count. LOU: Hey, your locks are truly luscious, man. Could totally smell the keratin the second I got off the loading screen. DARREN: Oh, really? Thank you. It’s my-
GEMMA: And it could be worse. At least you’re not working with Vladdy Daddy... [mimes the creep walk] All three laugh.
Here, however, comes someone who is not laughing. In fact, had she French kissed a lemon beforehand, you would probably describe her expression as ‘joyous’ next to the one she’s currently wielding.
ROSAMUND: Pleased to see that you have already found each other. But why am I addressing a child? My directives were clear. This is a potential business meeting, not a summer camp.
GEMMA: Child? You know, gameplay mechanics allow me to do all the things that a young adult can do. Even perform caregiving duties on an infant, only I don’t get any parenting skill boost from it. Do you ever think about that? No, you only ever think about yourselves. LOU: That’s so unfair. GEMMA: [fake sniff] I know! ROSAMUND: We can discuss the rights of the disenfranchised Thriftea generation later. Shall we sojourn to somewhere more private? LOU: [to Gemma] Hey, she’s got that kind of knack where she phrases something like it’s a request. Only it’s anything but a request- TOGETHER: I stan.
ROSAMUND: So. Is there an adult present with whom I may converse?
DARREN: That would be me. And not simply by default, though I can understand you having that impression. ROSAMUND: Yes. You come highly recommended at least. Please. Have a seat.
GEMMA: So, Wildfang. What news of this gig? What do your wolf ears perceive? LOU: A Lord of the Swings reference. I dig it. GEMMA: Something about Mad About Dodo? LOU: Oh my Watcher, I am obsessed! When that hot mean girl type was all set to Black Widow challenge Vlad- GEMMA: Not all heroes wear capes! LOU: And then that sweet shy twink finally got to shoot his shot at the WowWow hut! GEMMA: Total OTPness! LOU: Oh, but then that one dude drowned.
GEMMA: Which at first I thought was funny because I was like ‘people, chill, there’s a spell for that dot com?’ But then I remembered that everyone on that show is a mundane, probably because "Mister Vampire War Crimes Apologist" wants to be able to torture all the truly helpless Sims without any pushback or accountability or something. LOU: Plum, I hate that dick. GEMMA: So then I felt bad for thinking that it was funny? Since they don’t know what we know. And Dodo was crying over his tombstone and shit.
LOU: Yeah, that was rough but like, don’t feel bad. Our first reaction to anything ever is all down to social conditioning, you know? You reframed the situation in your own mind with hindsight and that’s what’s important. GEMMA: Thank you. LOU: I got you. Anyways. The tea is that her daughter’s on the show and she’s not happy. GEMMA: Oh my Watcher, I knew that she looked familiar! She has to be - TOGETHER: [scooby doo villain reveal tone] - Minty’s Mom!!! GEMMA: And Minty almost died too. No wonder Lady Muck-Muck here looks like she just stepped in a three hundred year old corpse. LOU: Yeah, I would be Blood Moon Rising level Furious if it was my pup. [whispers even quieter] But as well as ‘a’ mommy, she’s also Mommy, am I right? GEMMA: Totally Mommy. Though I’m still a teenager so I don’t have those moodlets about anyone above my age group yet. LOU: Don’t worry. I’ve got enough for the both of us.
ROSAMUND: Let neither of us disrespect the other by wasting their time. What do you know of untamed magic? DARREL: About five thousand simoleons worth more than what you’re currently offering. ROSAMUND: A risky venture and you must be compensated accordingly for your labour. Understood. DARREL: You’ve obviously done your research. You know then that we Charms are an old spellcaster family and we don’t need the money. And neither are we the types to dispense cheap party tricks for hire. [glances over at Gemma] Well, those of us who are of age anyway. I want to know that you’re serious about this. ROSAMUND: Oh, I most certainly am. And I can afford to be still more serious than five thousand additional simoleons. I can be very serious indeed. DARREL: Let’s discuss particulars then, yeah?
ROSAMUND: Yes, let’s. Mister Howl and Ms. Charm, downstairs you will find a bar, a dance floor and some credit in your names. LOU: [to Gemma] Don’t worry, I got you. ROSAMUND: You will also find a bartender under strict instructions not to serve alcohol to any minors, and to blacklist anyone who provides alcohol to said minors. LOU: Curses, foiled again!

AFTER HOURS OF FILMING FOR THEIR upcoming music video, the girls were finally given a thirty-minute break. the two youngest members sat in the once-empty makeup chairs in their dressing room while the rest of the group was scattered elsewhere around the set.
eunchae puts her phone down, getting up from her slouched position and moving to the other side of the room.
you look up from your phone to the younger girl with a raised eyebrow, "what are you doing?"
she doesn't respond.
you couldn't see what she was doing since her back was to you, but after a minute or so of rummaging through a closet, eunchae dramatically turned around, a short red wig now on her head with the rest of her hair still visible underneath.
you couldn't help but burst into laughter at her new appearance before getting up and joining her.
"are there more?" you ask excitedly. and as if she was expecting your question, she puts a similar, purple wig into your hands.
as you stood in front of the mirrors together, your laughter echoed through the empty dressing room. once the colorful wigs properly cover your hair, eunchae turned to you, holding up her phone, "let's take pictures"
you nodded excitedly, joining eunchae in posing in front of the mirror, striking amusing and dramatic poses for each shot, taking some together, and some of each other individually. the dressing room was filled with the sound of your shared laughter as you created a vibrant photo collection.
the group's short break was coming to an end, and kazuha was walking around looking for the younger members, a request from your leader. it wasn't a difficult task; the uproar of laughter coming from one room gave you both away.
kazuha stood at the threshold, utterly perplexed by the sight of eunchae and you sporting the vibrant wigs. she blinked twice, trying to process the scene she unexpectedly walked in on.
"what the..." when kazuha walked further into the lounge. she was caught off guard seeing you both with bright red and purple hair.
seeing her shocked expression through the mirror, you attempted to stifle your laughter, failing miserably. eunchae turned around, beaming at her before doing a dramatic catwalk towards her and hooking their arms together, walking her towards the mirror where you were waiting.
"dont we look great?" you chirped, bouncing you shiny, purples locks dramatically. you flick the strands of your wig towards kazuha, who couldn't help but burst into laughter herself, shaking her head in disbelief.
"what do you say, zuha? wanna join the fun?" eunchae wiggled her eyebrows, already holding up another vibrant, blue wig she'd found in the depths of the closet.
kazuha hesitated for a moment, then shrugged, "why not?"
within minutes, the room once again filled with laughter as your now-trio transformed into a whirlwind of color, clicking pictures and creating memories. their need to get back to filming, long forgotten until chaewon had to come get you all; she too almost getting drawn into your impromptu party as well.
