The disputed movie illustrates the process of how numerous adolescent females were indoctrinated into becoming members of the Islamic State (IS) and travelling to nations such as Syria and Afghanistan.  

About The Kerala Story And Movie  

The Kerala Story's trailer was unveiled on April 26 and sparked reactions and controversy. Vipul Amrutlal Shah's film seeks to narrate the story of how Kerala women were deceived and smuggled to the conflict zone of Syria's Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Sudipto Sen's film follows the journey of four female college students from Kerala who join the Islamic State.   

The movie is labelled as inspired by a true story, but the authenticity of the data displayed lacks concrete proof. It alludes to the controversial concept of Love Jihad in Kerala, where Hindu girls are purportedly enticed by Muslim men to convert to Islam.

On 3rd November 2022, the trailer was unveiled, featuring Adah Sharma portraying the role of Fathima Ba, a Hindu nurse from Kerala who adopted Islam and joined ISIS, ultimately landing in an Afghan prison. She claims to be one of the 32,000 girls hailing from Hindu and Christian communities who have gone missing in Kerala and have been recruited by ISIS after converting to Islam. However, these statistics are grossly inaccurate and based on flawed translations, misquoted statements, and mis interpreted data.  

The Factual And Accurate Story

According to a report by the Observer Research Foundation in 2019, approximately 60 to 70 individuals from Kerala had joined ISIS between 2014 and 2018. The data provided by the Indian government indicates that the number of Indians joining the organization has been relatively low, with only 100-200 individuals joining to date, which is among the lowest figures for any country with a significant Muslim population. The US Department of State's 2020 terrorism report stated that at that time, 66 people from India were associated with ISIS. The events depicted in the film are believed to have been inspired by the actions of four women from Kerala who converted to Islam and went to Afghanistan with their husbands to join ISIS between 2016 and 2018. They were among the 21 individuals from Kerala who joined ISIS in 2016 and have been detained in Afghanistan since they surrendered in 2019. The Indian National Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist), the only two parties to have governed the state since Independence, have opposed the movie's release, claiming that it promotes communal misinformation. They have also accused the filmmakers of advancing the agenda of the Sangh Parivar to slander Kerala and promote the notion of "love jihad," a Hindutva conspiracy theory. In response to these allegations, the producer Shah has stated that "we will provide evidence for everything we say," and Sen conducted extensive research for the film over four years.

Sudipto Sen, the director behind 'The Kerala Story' claims to uncover the truth behind the vanishing of approximately 32,000 women in the southern state. The movie incorrectly insinuates that these women converted to extremist Islam and were dispatched on terrorist operations in India and worldwide. Minister of Culture and Youth Affairs, Saji Cheriyan, expressed his strong disapproval of the film in a Facebook post, stating that it is a tool of the Sangh Parivar to propagate animosity and stir up unrest among communities. He further added that this is a well-known strategy employed by the group to incite chaos in society.

V D Satheesan, the leader of the opposition in the State Assembly, rejected the claims made by the filmmakers and asserted that the upcoming movie had the intention to malign the state's reputation globally. YRF releases high-octane 'Pathaan' trailer, SRK promises action-adventure

Yash Raj Films on Tuesday dropped the official trailer of the much-anticipated "Pathaan", a spy thriller that marks superstar Shah Rukh Khan's return to leading man roles after 2018's "Zero".

The movie, also starring Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana, is the first major release of Bollywood in 2023 and a lot is riding on its performance at the box office after a dismal 2022.

The actor, who plays the titular spy in the upcoming Yash Raj Films (YRF) Production, shared the 2.34 minute long trailer on his social media handles.

The video opens with actor John Abraham-led mercenary outfit Outfit X wreaking havoc and announcing an impending attack on the Indian soil.

The Indian response is to bring back its spy -- Pathaan.

"Ab Pathaan ke vanvaas ka time khatam hua (The time for Pathaan's exile is over)," says veteran actor Kapadia's character in the trailer.

Eternal (2021) Movie Timeline

(According to the dates projected during the Movie and the various dialogues by the characters)

5000 BC Mesopotamia

- Arrival of Eternals on Earth

575 BC Babylon

- 4 425 years has passed since the Eternals arrival on earth.

- Ajak reports to Arishem about their progress in eliminating the Deviants on Earth

- Ajak tells Ikaris he is allowed to live a life and tell Sersi how he felt.

539 BC Babylon

- Ikaris is told the truth of the mission by Ajak

(The Babylon empire dissolved in 539 BC, it can be assumed this is when they left to pursue roaming Deviants)

400 AD Gupta Empire

- 9 centuries has passed since Babylon, Sersi and Ikaris are shown getting married in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony.

1521 AD Tenochtitlan

- The Eternals has been on earth for around 6, 521 years.

- The Deviant numbers has dwindled to the point that the fighters are hunting down the last of them.

(Note: Phastos said whilst in Tenochtitlan that after the others kill the Deviants they were sent after, they would have eliminated them all from the planet.)

- Still in Tenochtitlan, after confirming all the Deviants are gone, Ajak makes the decision to split up the team as they have no active role anymore.

- Druig takes the people of Tenochtitlan to the Amazon where the Eternals last lived together.

- The other Eternals split up in pairs and goes to separate parts of the globe.

Ajak with Phastos to North/South America (Note: This is just speculations as the two were last seen together.)

- Ajak is killed by Deviants

- The Eternal Trio goes to Ajak's house in the South Dakota and finds their leader's dead body

4/3 days before the Emergence

- The trio reunite with Kingo whilst he is in a set shooting for his upcoming movie.

- They fly a private jet to Australia to meet with Thena and Gilgamesh

3/2 days before the Emergence

- The 6 reunited Eternals goes to Druig's village, hidden in the Amazons.

- Sersi and Ikaris goes to Chicago to recruit the Eternal Technopath, Phastos.

1 day before the Emergence

- the remaining Eternals converge in their ship, Domo where they plan their next moves.

The day of the Emergence

- This is when the Final battle takes place.

2 weeks after the Emergence

- Thena, Druig and Makkari leave Earth to seek out other Eternals.

Unknown time after the Emergence

- Arishem arrives on Earth and calls to him the remaining Eternals. He takes them and disappear into the void of space.

The Ikersi Timeline

- Sersi says she and Ikaris were together for 5 000 years to Dane. We know they got married in 400 A.D and that they were hovering around each other since 575 B.C. In the movie, Dane tells Sersi that he was told by Sprite that Sersi broke up with her boyfriend (Ikaris) over a century before present day. This would mean that Ikaris left Sersi around early 20th century or the 1900s.

In total, the Ikersi couple had

- 3 Millenium and 8 centuries of Courtship (3 400 B.C to 400 A.D)

- 1 millenium and 2 centuries of Marriage (400 A.D to 1900 A.D.)

- And a century of separation (1900 A.D to 2024 A.D)

[1900 A.D is an approximate as the exact date for Ikaris leaving Sersi is not mentioned anywhere else in the movie.]

Location of each Eternals in Present Day in order of Appearance

- Sersi and Sprite lives in London

- Ajak has a small country cottage in South Dakota

- Kingo is a Bollywood actor in Mumbai

- Thena and Gilgamesh have settled and build a life together somewhere in the plains of Australia.

- Druig is still living in the Amazons with the descendants of the Aztec people from Tenochtitlan.

- Phastos is living with a husband and son in Chicago

- Makkari is still hanging out in the Domo, buried underneath ruins in Iraq.

So, when we set out on this particular film series quest, I had a few limitations to work with: 

They had to be movies that we hadn’t already seen, which meant skipping some of the biggest and most influential titles (Ringu, The Grudge, Dark Water, etc etc.)

I wanted as diverse a selection as I could to mix up multiple countries and time periods

The movies all had to be things I could find streaming online, which cut about half of my initial selections out of the running

Some overall thoughts: 

Japan takes the cake for fucking weird. Which is not a shock to anyone, probably, but it’s very clear that Japan isn’t afraid to get bizarre, and has been doing some super weird shit from the very beginning. 

India doesn’t seem to take itself very seriously in the horror film department, lol. Not all of the movies were Bollywood musicals, although a couple were. But even the non-musicals were all pretty silly. 

Mainland China doesn’t really make horror movies these days as far as I know but Hong Kong sure does and the ones I’ve seen are all brutal. They don’t seem to mind pushing the envelope there one bit. 

South Korea is the same. I have a deep fondness for Korean films, and I think I tend to enjoy them more than Japanese exports because they tend to be more grounded and often politically biting. 

Our next batch of horror movies is going to be a catch-up with new releases since we’re a couple years behind at this point. The hashtag for those will be #horror-new-releases so keep an eye out for that in the upcoming weeks.
