#i love the idea that it's not even deliberate he just stops in every now and then to get jane some lunch#and then one day amicia just starts bouncing off the goddamn walls in fury over him Betraying Her#and he has no fucking clue what she's going on about#and THEN it becomes extremely deliberate because this is the funniest shit she's ever been paranoid about ever
"Hey, Jane, you should recommend this shop to all your friends! :) "
i think "guy who thinks another guy is his sworn enemy but the other guy is just normal about it" is one of the better and funnier tropes ever

Am I Good Enough
🩸🖤♟️🍷
Summary: You were on a solo trip to Italy taking a tour of an old castle when everything changes, but will this random guy accept you for who’s and what you are?
Pairing: Alec Volturi x human f!reader
•Masterlist•
Tumblr media
Taking a trip to Italy was a last minute decision, firstly needing a break from my boring life and for some reason Italy always just called to me, like there was something waiting there for me
After a long tire some flight I finally landed in Italy, stepping out into the hot heat, waving down a taxi before anyone else could cut infront of me, only traveling with my backpack for easy travel, I told the driver to take me to Volterra, only an hour drive from the airport, seeing pictures of it on a guide and thought it would be a beautiful start to my trip
Finally we arrived in volterra, I paid and now standing infront of this beautiful castle, the town was fully stone built, it was beautiful unlike anything I’ve ever seen before, as I was walking down the street I got stopped by a woman, her hair luscious, he skin was flawless, her eyes so beautiful even though they must be contacts since they were such a rich red, her smile enticing
“Hi there you seem like a girl who’d love a good tour and I just so happen to be showing the castle right now for free! Does that interest you at all?” Her voice was so melodic like she was a siren I was pulled in nodding immediately watching as her smile grew, I followed her to the castle like a puppy meeting up with a group of other tourists
She led us through the castle not stopping to tell us about anything interesting we passed, finally we got to a set of big wooden door that looked like they weighed a ton but she pushed them open with ease, there beyond the doors was a huge room, marble and tile covered every inch, three thrones sat on the pedestal further back in the room, where three men sat seemingly looming over us all, others stood around the room watching us like they were ready to pounce, the doors behind us slammed soon hearing the first scream of many, it was a blood bath as the people dressed in black went from person to person until I was the only one standing
“It seems we missed one brothers and sisters”
“I’ve got her” a tall man said as he started right for me before he was stopped by the older man that sat on the throne
“WAIT” his voice boomed through the chamber, everyone stopping to look at him
He got up off the throne seemingly weak as he glided over to me
“Dear child it seems someone here has been waiting for you for a long long time” he smiled as he turned to a guy who was the most ethereal beautiful person I’ve ever seen, everything about him lured me in, he eyed me the same way and in an instant he was infront of me
“My Lord are you sure about this, she is my mate?”
“Yes child she is your other half”
“But she is human, this can’t be”
“It was meant to be, don’t over think this, it’s the best gift the universe could give you”
“Come we must talk” he said as he led me back out through the doors, silently walking through the vast halls until we finally made it to a huge room decorated in black and ruby red, books covering the walls
“Sit” he demanded as he gestured to the bed
“You haven’t said a word this whole time you must be in shock” he said sitting opposite of me on the bed
“No……surprisingly I’m the calmest I’ve ever been, but I still don’t know what’s going on”
“I must admit you are cute, most beautiful human I’ve ever seen” his words made the blood rush to my cheeks making him smile
“I’d say the same for you but I don’t quite think you’re human….right?”
“You’d be right my rose, we are vampires some much older than others but we rule over the vampiric world, we enforce the laws so the humans don’t become suspicious about our kind”
“Then why are you telling me, why didn’t you just kill me like everyone else in the room”
“Some of us vampires have special powers, the one that talked to you was Marcus one of our lords, he can sense the bond of those who are mated to each other, he could sense that we are meant to be with one another” my heart was racing fast, I was sure he could hear it
“Mates? That’s…..are you sure I mean I’m just a human am I good enough for you?” His eyes softened for the first time
“We will figure this out this isn’t the first time a vampire has been mated to a human, I just got lucky enough to get such a diamond”
Tumblr media
It’s been a month now and it’s been well……amazing I didn’t get a lot of alone time with Alec seeing he had a lot of guard duty but when he’d wake me at night so I could curl up to him as he held me, sometimes he’d leave cute notes in the books I’d be reading that always got my heart beating, sometimes leaving red roses on the table for me whenever he had to work late, he made me feel like a goddess, giving me a love I’ve never thought I’d feel before…….well until today
Walking into the library to grab another book hoping to find something more intriguing than the books Alec had collected over the years
Looking on the second balcony I stopped when I heard voices on the main level, Alec always warned me of some other vampires, newer to the Volturi that may not have a reign on their blood thirst as the older vamps, as their voices got louder I recognized them as Jane and Demetri
“You seem more cruel than usual Jane, something the matter?” Demetri asked, I stood completely still as I listened to the conversation
“Alec won’t stop going on and on about that….that rat, complete filth of a human, I mean what fates put them together, she’s just a lowly human, I could kill her in a second and her life would mean nothing”
“Jane don’t be so harsh have you even spoken to her, she’s quite the girl, she’s perfect for Alec”
“No human is good enough for Alec” she scoffed before she stormed out, the doors slamming behind her, I let out a breath I didn’t even know I was holding
My heart felt like a ton of bricks, maybe I wasn’t enough for Alec I mean it’s been a month and we haven’t moved past just holding each other in bed, or a little pec on the check, maybe I’m over thinking everything but there still that nagging at the back of my mind that Jane might be right I mean she’s his twin she knows him best
I ditched my journey to get a new book and headed back to Alec’s and I’s room hoping to just clear my head and try and forget about this gut wrenching feeling
I threw myself down on the bed when a voice shocked me out of my fleeting moment of peace
“What seems to trouble you amore?” I shot up in the bed looking across the room to where the voice came from seeing Alec sat on the couch looking beautiful as ever
“Oh umm it’s nothing just tired” in a flash he was kneeled infront of me at the side of the bed, his hands holding mine
“Amore you know you can’t lie to me, I hear your lovely heart race everytime, now tell me”
“I just…..I don’t know, I feel sometimes that I’m not everything you need we haven’t even kissed yet and i know the others think this too”
“My love, you are everything I have waited for, you calm me down when I feel my anger rise, you thaw my cold dead heart, and for the other I haven’t kissed you yet because I wanted to take this slow for you, I’m quite into courting if you haven’t noticed, this is special so I’m enjoying my time with every little moment” he smiled running his thumb over my hand soothingly
“I….I love you Alec, and I know I can have my doubts sometimes but I really do, you’ve made me feel more loved than I ever have before” I said placing my hand on his cold cheek
“I love you to my angel, and I want you to never worry about my I devoted love for you, nothing with ever change than no matter if your human or a vampire, I’m yours till the end of time”

"Don't get too comfortable, amore." His hands pushed the skirt of my dress back up in a gentle caress.
I whined a little and he gave my thigh a light slap, leaning over to whisper in my ear.
"Keep those thighs open, Y/N. I'm far from through with you yet."
My heart leaped at his words and it had me widening my legs of their own accord. Fuck. This was ridiculous. What on earth made him think that I could handle another orgasm? Maybe he wasn't thinking-
I sucked in a soft breath as Alec's hand ghosted up my thigh, slowly, teasingly, before coming to rest at the junction where my thighs met my pussy. My back arched, a needy moan slipping from between my lips.
Ok. Maybe it was me who wasn't thinking.
"Show me what you want me to do to you, darling."
I blinked up at him confusedly, still in a haze from earlier. "What?"
He smirked at me before turning his head to look back out at the road, his hand still rubbing teasingly along the edges of my cunt.
"I need to keep both hands on the wheel. Safety first."
Safety first? Bullshi-
He slapped my thigh again and I jerked, a yelp followed by another moan escaped me.
"Show. Me. What. You. Want."
What I wanted was that cock in my pussy but we couldn't very well do that while he was driving.
...I don't think.
I gulped, my hand slowly traveling down to my slick folds and running my fingers through to gather the creamy wetness still there. I blushed hotly when I realized that it was both his cum and my own mixed together.
Alec raised a brow at me as he took in my reaction and I looked away, instead choosing to focus back on what my fingers were doing.
Finally, after a bit of teasing and making sure that my fingers were nice and thoroughly wet, I began to circle the little bundle of nerves that had me arching my back yet again.
"That's my girl."
The words sent another pulse straight down between my legs. Alec's hand went back to the steering wheel, glancing between the road and the little show that I was putting on for him. I gave a small whimper at the loss of contact but I didn't dare stop. My clit was sensitive to the point of painful, but it felt too good to stop.
I should be embarrassed, but for some odd reason I was even more turned on whenever I felt his eyes on me. Leaning the seat back a little, I let my other hand explore, running up my midriff to cup my breast, pinching and pulling my nipple teasingly.
"Alec." I moaned his name softly.
Enticingly.
If he wanted to play then fine, I would play. I was making it my new goal to get him to pull over and fuck me until I couldn't walk. And by the way his hands clenched around the steering wheel, I could tell it was working.
The heat was starting to pool low now, coming to a head as I circled my nub a little faster. A cool hand circled around my thigh, wrenching my legs wide open before I had even realized that I had begun to close them.
"Fuck. Fuck. Fuck."
My moans turned into panting, and from there whimpers. I could feel the wet tracks of tears cascading down my cheeks. Before I knew it, I was flying over the edge again with a cry, my back arching off of the seat.
There was a sudden jerk as the car swerved and came to a stop. I blinked, heart racing as I tried to figure out what exactly was happening. My car door suddenly whipped open with a screech and I jumped in surprise.
"Out." Alec hissed from between clenched teeth.
I blinked, my brain trying to catch up to my current situation.
"Y/N. Get. Out. Now."
The sound of my name knocked me out of my daze, and I scrambled to climb out of the car, Alec's hand steadying me until my legs cleared the threshold.
"Fuck." Alec groaned as he pushed me over the hood, his fingers sinking into my wet core.
I gasped, back arching. Alec caught me by my throat, keeping my back arched and burying his face into my shoulder, his fingers pumping into me furiously. It was less than a matter of minutes before I could feel my tight heat clenching around his fingers.
"That's it baby girl," the fingers at my throat tightened ever so slightly. "Cum again for me."
"Alec." I panted. "Please."
He added another finger before curling them against my sweet spot. The heat pooling in my belly snapped yet again, and he held me against him, my legs giving out from under me.
There was no time for reprieve. I barely had time to register the cooled heat of the car's hood against my skin before I felt him sinking into me, his cock stretching me out in a sweet burn that had me crying in desperation and frustration. I could barely stand the idea of continuing, but I'd be damned if I wasn't going to cum on his cock again.
"Perfect." Alec grunted as he slammed into me deeper, and I let out a small yelp in surprise. "Fuck, you're still tight."
"Alec, please."
The heat was building up yet again. The coil of pleasure pulling tighter and tighter with every stroke of his cock. He wove his hand into my hair, yanking me back until I was flush against him, pausing mid-stroke.
What-
"You look so pretty when you beg, darling." Alec nipped at my ear, his other hand splaying out over the lower half of my tummy.
With a start I realized that his cock was so big that it was creating a bulge in my belly. I gasped, stunned, heat shooting straight through me, hitting me so fast and hard that I nearly came on his cock right then and there.
How had I not noticed that the first time?
I gaped, staring down with wide eyes.
"Tell me, sweetling. How desperate are you for this cock?"
I moaned, half delirious and completely desperate. Alec rocked his hips teasingly, letting the bulge in my belly disappear before slowly distending yet again.
"Well?"
"Please." I whined. "Please fuck me, Alec."
I squeezed my pussy around him, urging him to continue. He leaned in, his hips beginning a slow bit steady rhythm, his thrusts causing him to hit harder and deeper.
"That's it, Y/N. Cum for me."
I let out a whine, my pussy fluttering around his cock as I felt the edges of my orgasm draw near. Finally, the delicious wave of my orgasm swept through me as the fine line of pleasure roiling in me snapped. I came with another cry, my body arching back into him yet again.
"You look absolutely gorgeous when you come on my cock." Alec murmured as he helped me ride out my orgasm, and then following himself shortly after with a hiss.
I could feel his cool seed dripping down my thighs when he finally pulled out, and I nearly collapsed as he pulled away.
"I got you." He murmured into my hair, his hands coming up to steady me before helping me back into the car.
His cool hand cupped my face, forcing me to look at him. His red eyes scanned me from head to toe, looking for what I didn't know. Whatever he saw seemed to satisfy him well enough.
"Are you okay?"
I blinked at him in surprise. Apparently I was going to be doing that a lot more than I realized today. I nodded, my hand coming up to cover his.
"Yes." I breathed softly, closing my eyes and leaning into his caress. "That was perfect."

Hi again!
I've been so delighting in going back through some of your past answers this week and I loved rereading your daemon AU with BAMF Alec. I love all your Alec characterizations, but I have a particular fondness for your versions where it's really emphasized how cold and aloof Alec has to be in command sometimes. Alec allowing 'just a little nip' to Clary's otter was such an excellent visual.
If it happens to strike your fancy, I'd love another daemon AU, whether it be a continuation of that snippet or not. In particular I'd love to see Alec's daemon, his soul, walking up to Magnus and touching him, literally putting Alec's soul in Magnus' hands. (If there was a d/s undertone there, that would just be adding the cherry to the ice cream sundae, but is totally not necessary.)
Thank you again for all your lovely fills!
hey!! i always love your prompts and i'm happy i felt up to answering this one!
Magnus waits until the door clicks shut and then he turns to look at the shadowhunter who fought with him, back to back. He’s even more stunning after his display of both competence and the surprising compassion he showed.
“Will I be in the way? Or should I leave as well and we can pick a better time for a meeting?”
Magnus summons himself a drink and takes a long, fortifying sip of magically aged gin that will help his core to stabilize. Three warlocks lost is still three too many and his magic aches with a lust for vengeance that he cannot yet unleash.
“If you’ll follow me, I must leave this place and let it settle before I can return and let them rest properly. It needs to remain as undisturbed as possible.”
Alec — as he was called at one point — merely nods and silently follows as Magnus’ directs, his nearly eight-foot long alligator moving with surprising grace.
The shadowhunter and his daemon step through the portal without protest and Magnus turns to raise the wards he will need to let the dust of souls settle without fear of it being harvested.
Warlock rituals require time and Valentine desecrated that need, brutalizing the ash of warlock souls in experiments and well, Magnus will not allow that to ever happen on his watch.
He follows Alec as quickly as he can and it’s to find that his own daemon is already there, practically nose to nose with Alec’s.
“Cahya—” Magnus murmurs, more out of a surprise than a true reprimand.
There’s a moment where Alec turns and Magnus thinks that this is about to be business again, and then a large, reptilian head turns to face him as well.
Alec stops, eyebrows furrowed as he looks at his daemon and then he takes a half step back and shrugs. It’s clear that he trusts his daemon and Magnus is curious enough to keep quiet since Cahya seems content, almost amused.
Magnus isn’t expecting the daemon to continue approaching, past what is considered polite.
Daemons don’t do this. They don’t initiate contact.
Not ever and Magnus feels charges with the weight of potential that he cannot comprehend.
There’s a moment of charged silence and then a long snout is reaching up and brushing against his fingers.
Magnus can’t help the shocked gasp that slips past his lips.
The way his soul cries out and Magnus drops to his knees, hands unthinkingly reaching out to cup Alexander’s daemon.
Dust clings to his fingertips and energy fights for a brief moment and then, as Magnus exhales, Jayr is born anew.
He’s a melanistic jaguar, perfectly suited for the shadows and his muscles roll as he presses his head up against Magnus’ palm. Everything about him sings to Magnus as he feels the weight of a soul settle under his palms.
Soft, dark fur tickles his skin and whiskers brush past his wrist as a regal head ducks for comfort.
“Oh.” Alexander makes a surprised, almost frantic noise, his eyes bright, “he settled then.” There is something relieved in Alexander's tone and then he leans against the wall, as if awaiting Magnus' direction.
Magnus knows that he could bid Alexander to kneel, and his boy would do so. Alexander would do anything Magnus asked - his soul already conforming to meet Magnus - and Magnus knows it.
Magnus takes in quiet breathe and lets the knowledge anchor him.
That Alexander’s soul settled at Magnus’ touch has a great many connotations and Magnus won’t let anything sneak past him.

Running out of time
Tumblr media
Pairing: Alec Volturi x reader
Warnings: mentions of an abusive ex ⚠️
Requested: @urdeadpoet123
Prompts:
#18 & #19
***
There has always been always a big risk when it comes to the world of vampires, a world you never thought to have existed until you meant him, Alec Volturi.
Alec is an ice cold individual, and is cruel towards humans. Until your chance encounter of meeting one another, Alec knew immediately that you were his mate. Not really by choice but more like by fate, but that would all change very soon. Alec could be just as cruel as the other kings and although he could get a little frightening, he was more lenient towards you, but only slightly if you were to screw up on a simple task by mistake.
In the beginning, Alec was nowhere near fond of you, it didn’t matter if he was a little more lenient, but the his perspective of you changed completely when he saw you being chased by an abusive ex. At first, he thought the young man was just one of those who found you attractive and made it his mission to not stop chasing after you until you give him a phone number. Though you were a fast runner, you weren’t fast enough and the man gripped you tightly after catching your wrists and forcing you forwards to make eye contact with him. That was when Alec knew something wasn’t right, and seeing someone put their hands on you like that, made him livid. So he was on his way to put a stop to it before things escalated more than they should. When the man tried to pull you away from the castle, that was when Alec showed up and followed. It was a good thing too, and you were never more thankful to have Alec around.
Your ex’s car was a few feet away when Alec got there, your ex trying his hardest to get you in the car. After getting a brief whiff of the car, it was a smell you would never forget, it was the same smell that will be giving you nightmares of the incident. Alec manages to quickly grab you and start the way back to the castle, but not without a brief confrontation with the ex who tried taking you away from him. First, Alec turns and steps in front of you, so that your out of view. In this moment, Alec briefly grabbed him by the throat and appeared to be very intimidating as he threatens the guy. However, the threat didn’t seem to phase the guy at all… well almost.
“If I see you on castle grounds again, you will be ripped apart by me personally!” Alec yelled.
“Relax man, I was just asking her for directions!”
“Oh yeah? Directions to what?”
“That’s personal business, I was just saying I wasn’t here to cause harm or trouble.”
“I think hell is that way.” Alec says, pointing to his car.
“You’re going to hell, that’s where I hope you turn up!” Alec sharks with a hint of venom in his voice.
The man rolled his eyes like this was some kind of big joke that was not humorous in anyway at all. But than the man comes back with his own remark, one that made it hard for Alec to hold himself back from causing more problems or to have more tension growing.
“I already know it. I’ll see you there.”
With that being said, the ex had walked back and got in his car and drove away. This time, for good, you never see him again after this thanks to Alec showing up when he did. That was quite an ordeal for the both of you, but the only thing that matters is the fact it was over and even though it didn’t last more than a half hour, it felt like an eternity. Once the whole ordeal was over, Alec helped you back inside the castle.
For the rest of the day, the evening, Alec was showing his more affectionate side by taking care of you and making sure you had everything you needed. This was when he became more of you.
When he felt he was running out of time getting to you earlier.
Alec became your hero.

Spencer Reid x she/her!reader
TW: reference to domestic violence
Tumblr media
Must Have Been The Wind
Spencer returned home late that first night, tiredly stumbling through his apartment door during the early hours of the morning and crashing on his bed as soon as it was within reach. The case he had just helped solve was, of course, as stressful as any other, but the mystery itself was not particularly difficult to decipher, it just so happened that the team’s flight home was delayed by four hours.
Naturally, the tired genius was desperate for sleep, but right as he closed his eyes, the sound of glass shattering stirred him awake again. At first, he thought his ears were playing tricks on him, and he tried to drift off to sleep again, but then he heard something else. From the apartment above his, he could hear a woman crying. There was no chance of Spencer getting back to sleep, his hero instincts had kicked in, and before he knew it he was getting in the elevator, ascending to the second floor.
He speed walked down the hall to the door of the apartment directly above his, following the cries until he was knocking on the dark oak door. The crying stopped immediately, on the other side of the door someone was shuffling around, and Spencer tried to decipher what could be going on. Was she tidying the mess of broken glass? Was she hiding something? Before he could make a conclusion, the door opened, but only slightly. There stood a woman, her puffy eyes indicating that she had been the one crying, but aside from that distinction he didnt recognise her at all, she must have only recently moved in. One of her hands clutched at the wooly turtle neck sweater hugging her form, as though she was holding up the neck to hide herself further, and her other hand held the door so that it couldnt open any further.
“Hello, Im Spencer Reid, I live in the apartment below you and I couldnt help hearing the sound of glass shattering and someone crying- the sounds were coming from above me, I just wanted to see if you were alright?” The young genius explained himself, and used the knowledge from his profession to decode your body language.
Your body was mostly hidden behind the door, only one half of you properly visible as the dark apartment behind you cast a shadow over your features. It was obvious that you were cowering away from Spencer, but at his words, you visibly relaxed a little, and he was very glad of that. Why had you been afraid of him? He noticed that your eyes were wildly glancing inside your apartment, at the slightest noise your head would turn to look inside. Was there someone else in there? Were you in danger? The kind smile that overtook your features distracted Spencer from his thoughts, he couldnt help it, your smile only enhanced the beauty that he already acknowledged but chose to ignore because he was focussed on trying to help.
“Hi Spencer, Im (Y/N). I appreciate your concern, and I-” You paused, avoiding eye contact with Spencer. “-I wish I could tell you about the noise, but I didnt hear a thing! It must have been the wind, maybe I left a window open and something fell. Whatever the cause, Im sorry if the noise woke you.”
Spencer shook his head, he was about to tell you that you didnt need to apologise, and then he was going to try and talk to you more, because every red flag he knew was telling him that you were lying. But, before he could even open his mouth, you continued.
“Anyway, I wont keep you, I’ll go and close the windows, have a good night, sir!” And with that, you closed the door, disappearing.
Spencer heard the fake pleasantness in your voice, you were trying to convince him that you were alright, but you must have known it wasnt working, so you cut the conversation short before he could question you further. Or, maybe Spencer’s paranoid ears were playing tricks on him. It was plausible, he couldnt deny that, and he didnt have any reason to dispute it aside from his own opinion, which told him you were anything but alright.
Though he returned to his apartment, he didnt sleep that night, his body forced him to stay awake and listen carefully for anymore sounds. There were no more disturbances, and Spencer went into work the following morning convincing himself that it really must have been the wind.
Spencer was away for three nights on a case after that first interaction, and while he was away he couldnt help but worry about you.
He returned to his apartment at around lunchtime, the flight home wasnt delayed at all this time around. There was a knock at his door about 20 minutes after he’d arrived at his apartment, his suitcase was only half unpacked. Spencer frowned in confusion, but was quick to open his door and greet whoever wanted to see him. There you stood, a scarf around your neck and a plate of cookies in your hands, which you held out to him.
“The other night, I didnt really get the chance to introduce myself, we’ve- sorry, I’ve only just moved in, and I wanted to apologise again for waking you, so I baked you some cookies! I tried to replace all ingredients that you could possibly be allergic to with safe substitutes, as I dont know whether you have any allergies.” You spoke kindly, your voice less fearful and fake than the last time Spencer had heard it.
Spencer smiled. “Thank you very much (Y/N), do you want to come in for a coffee? Im a little out of stock of almost every other consumable item because I’ve been away, so these cookies have come at an ideal time!”
You chuckled at that and nodded, which Spencer hadnt expected.
“Happy to be of service! And thank you, I’d love to.” You told him, and he stepped aside to welcome you into his home.
Once Spencer had closed his front door, you placed the cookies down on a kitchen counter and turned to look at him.
“I cant stay long, Im afraid Im caught up with paperwork right now.” You said, keeping your voice level as you gestured to Spencer, wordlessly asking for a pen and paper.
He nodded, confused as to why you were asking in such a way, but he still fetched you a notepad and a pen, while casually replying to your spoken words. “Oh, what’s the paperwork?”
While you scribbled down on the notepad, you made up a response to Spencer’s question, both of you aware that the verbal conversation you were having was mostly based on lies. “Y’know, the usual, safety reports and whatnot. Im a nurse.”
You showed him what you’d written on the notepad:
He’s listening. Above. Need help. Please.
Alarm bells rang in Spencer’s head, and he made eye contact so you knew he’d read it.
“How long have you been a nurse?” He asked, not thinking or caring for his words as you pulled the scarf from your neck.
Bruises, in the shape of fingers and lines, wrapped themselves around your neck like a collar. Spencer felt his blood boil as he held his hand out and waited for you to pass him the pen, before he scribbled down beneath your message.
Give me his name.
You nodded at his message. “I’ve been a nurse for almost 5 years now, it’s a job I have a real passion for, there’s nothing like saving people every single day.” You held his gaze as you spoke, and then tore your eyes from his in order to jott down the name of the man you lived with, as well as some background information.
Night shift. Medford. Oregon. Took me as I was getting in my car 6 months ago. Drags me from place to place. Makes me work to pay him. Goes out and kills. Comes back and beats me black and blue.
Spencer made a mental note of everything you’d written and took his phone out from his back pocket. He typed out all of the information in a text to Penelope, desperately hoping that she wasnt busy at that precise moment. At the end of his message, he added “She’s in my apartment, I’ll protect her, but please get people here as soon as possible”.
“I can imagine a job like that would be very rewarding.” Spencer said to you as he took the pen.
It’s done, they’re on their way.
You visibly breathed a sigh of relief, and Spencer darted over to his front door to lock it, just in case the murderer in your apartment tried to get to you. He ran to his bedroom and took his gun from his suitcase, stuffing it under the back of his belt as a precaution.
The police sirens reached your ears just as Spencer re-entered the room, and several loud thuds from above followed immediately after. Spencer noticed you visibly flinch at every thud, and he was quick to stand in front of you and take ahold of your hand to calm you down. Unfortunately, his efforts were no match for the roar coming from the hall above.
“YOU LITTLE BITCH, WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO!?!”
You started hyperventilating, unable to process the petrifying fear of that monster coming after you. Spencer turned and pulled you into his arms, knowing that he had at least a few seconds to hold you before the killer got out of the elevator.
“I promise you, I will never let him hurt you again.” He comforted you, his voice so soft in contrast to the harsh words you were used to hearing from the man you had been held captive by.
At the sound of the elevator doors opening, Spencer let go of you and retrieved his gun, aiming for his own front door. If that evil creature got to the door before the police got upstairs, Spencer was ready. You grabbed part of his shirt and balled it in your fist, allowing yourself to stay attached to him and feel just a little safer. The loudest footsteps Spencer had ever heard ran down the hall until they reached his door, a fist pounded against it only once before he was thrown to the floor by the police - or at least, that’s what you and Spencer assumed had happened, based on what you could hear. A much quieter knock landed on his door.
“Who is it?” Spencer called loudly.
“It’s me, kid!” Derek Morgan called from the other side, and Spencer relaxed as he unlocked the door for his friend.
“Garcia?” Spencer guessed.
“Yeah, she searched that guy’s name and found close to fifteen cases all leading to him, he’ll never know a life outside of grey walls after this.” Derek replied, before he walked around his friend to introduce himself to you.
Instinctively, you backed away and shook your head at him, so Derek stopped walking towards you and held his hands up.
“Hey, Im not gonna hurt you, Im a friend of Reid’s. Do you think you can come to the station to answer some questions? You are the only person to survive a conversation with that guy, you have the power to give him the sentence he deserves.” Derek asked, his voice far more gentle than it was when he spoke to Spencer.
You cast your gaze to the floor. “I’ll answer whatever questions are necessary, but I can guarantee that no amount of prison time will serve as justice for what he did to me and so many others.”
Spencer felt his heart sink and his veins fill with fire at your words, he had no idea what you had gone through, he didnt even want to imagine it, but the way you phrased it made it sound as though you could never recover. In that moment, Spencer made it his mission to do whatever he could to help you get through this.
Through every interview, every question, he sat beside you. Anytime a question was too invasive or he could see you being made uncomfortable by what you were having to describe, he stepped in and either took you out of the room to encourage you and give you a long hug, or unleashed just the tiniest bit of sass towards the cop interviewing you, which was an interaction fierce enough to shut anyone up.
Once you had done everything you could to aid the investigation, Spencer drove you both back to his apartment block. He helped you collect the very few things that belonged to you in the apartment you’d been held in, before leading you back to his home, where he had given you permission to stay, as he couldnt bear the thought of leaving you to continue sleeping in your old apartment. He had offered to drive you all the way back to Oregon, to your home, but you said you could never ask that of him, and there was no way you could be on your own after that. Spencer gave you his phone so that you could call your family, and all of them cried happy tears through the phone at finding out that you were okay after disappearing for 6 months. You explained to them that you had a place to stay until the case was completely over with and you were safe to return home, you didnt want to be on your own until that monster was definitely behind bars for good.
“You can stay here as long as you want.” Spencer spoke from across the living room as you ended your call with your family.
You shook your head guiltily. “I’ll be out of your hair as soon as possible, I dont want to overstay my welcome.”
Spencer approached you carefully and smiled down at you. “You are always welcome. I also appreciate the company.”
You couldnt help smiling up at him. “Thank you, for everything.”
Spencer modestly shrugged away your gratitude. “You dont need to thank me.”
You grabbed his hand then, forcing modest eyes to look at you. “If it wasnt for you, I could be dead right now.”
Spencer frowned at this, both because he didnt like the idea of you being dead, and because he realised he hadnt asked a blindingly obvious question. “How did you know I’d be able to help? You came to my door with a plan, how did you know I’d go along with it?”
You smiled at this. “Clearly you were too tired to remember to take off your lanyard the night we met, Doctor Spencer Reid, FBI.” You winked, and Spencer laughed.
“I completely forgot! You just outmatched someone with a career in profiling!” He exclaimed, unable to believe how he could have forgotten such a simple detail.
Then it was your turn to shrug modestly, only you did so with expert sarcasm. “Well, what can I say? Im very good.”
Apparently it was already decided that you would be sleeping in Spencer’s room while he slept on the couch, though this was never discussed, Spencer had decided inside his own head and refused to even entertain you arguing with him. You laid under his covers, your head on his pillow, the calming scent of him enveloping you in a way that comforted you more than anything else. Spencer sat beside you, his hand holding yours.
“If you need anything, or wake up at all, Im just outside the door. And if you’re too scared to get up, call out to me.” He almost whispered, taking care to speak in a way that would encourage your tiredness.
You squeezed his hand. “Could you just...stay?”
Spencer’s eyes widened. “In here? In bed? With you?” Alarm bells rang in his head again, this time for an entirely different reason.
You chuckled at his suddenly flustered state. “Yes, in here, in this bed, with me. Please, if it’s not too much to ask, I feel a lot safer with you here.”
Spencer’s heart swelled, and without saying another word he climbed into bed beside you. As soon as he was under the covers, your body felt a gravitational pull towards his. Before you knew it, your head was resting on Spencer’s chest and his arms were holding you tightly against him. A rattling sound against the window made you jump and hide in the covers.
“What was that!?!” You squeaked in a panic.
“Shh, I think that really was the wind his time.” Spencer answered, his arms pulling you from under the covers and back into his warm embrace. You felt your entire body begin to relax the moment he touched you.
And for the first time in six months, you felt safe enough to sleep.

|Chapter•Thirty•Four|
•|Masterlist|•
With a chuckle and feeling his face warming up, (M/n) stepped away from Gally and began making his way to where their friends were busy getting the bonfire ready. The weekly bonfires weren't as big as the greenie bonfires were, so there wasn't much to be done, however, the Builders always found a way to get distracted when they weren't working, so it took a while to get them to set it up.
However today seemed to be a different occasion as it did look like a greenie bonfire.
Approaching Alec and Mikah, he looked around for what he could do and spotted the chopped logs scattered nearby, so he crouched down to pick them up, but a foreign hand did it for him instead.
"What...?" Looking up, he saw Gally bending over to pick up those logs, glancing at him for a moment, "Really?"
"You're still recovering, you're not lifting heavy stuff yet, bean," (M/n) huffed and looked around them for a moment, noticing how the guys around immediately went back to what they were doing, making it too obvious that they were paying attention to what was happening between them.
"Clint said I'm okay, Gally, I can help," Gally stood straight once more, and (M/n) saw him reaching his hand out to him, which he took and stood next to the tall blond.
"Hm," Gally hummed with a sceptical expression as his green eyes looked at (M/n) up and down for a few seconds, "Yeah well... I'll be the judge of that, bean," and like always, he ruffled (M/n)'s (curly/wavy/straight) hair, chuckling at the sound of him huffing.
Crossing his arms, he watched how Gally walked toward the bonfire and began placing the logs in place. (M/n) sighed and made his way to one of the logs, sitting on it and watching his friends with a smile on his face. This situation has happened quite a few times, so he knew that arguing with Gally about being able to do work around wouldn't have a different result, so he gave in and simply watched.
Plus, he got to watch him playing around while doing some lifting, it was a win in his book as far as he's concerned.
///////
The Glade was buzzing with energy as dinner was served and everyone gathered around the fire, talking and laughing with each other.
Gally had made some of his non-alcoholic drink and was sitting with (M/n), telling him about his day.
He was rambling about how he got to play with Chuck and Bark for a while, before continuing to teach him some more wood carving and why keeping the wood chips was helpful around the Glade. (M/n) listened attentively and stared at him.
He looked so happy, his smile was wide and he was so cheerful, it made (M/n) melt internally, to him, there was nothing better than hearing Gally happily ramble about his day and seeing him smiling so brightly.
Gally continued talking for a while, until he realized the way he was being stared at, which made him stop abruptly, looking down slightly ashamed, "Uh, sorry... I talked too much..."
At that, (M/n) reached to hold Gally's hand, and maintained eye contact with the blond, "Don't apologize, big guy, actually... You can keep going," Gally looked at him, slightly puzzled.
"What... What do you mean, bean?" (M/n) chuckled and smiled at Gally.
"I like it when you're happy, Gally, and rambling looks good on you," he watched how, under the warm glow of the bonfire, Gally's face began turning slightly pink, but he turned away, feeling his stomach tingling and his heart beating faster.
"Oh... That's nice to hear..." He mumbled with a shy smile and a quiet giggle.
"Alright, everyone," the sound of Alby's grumbly voice caught everyone's attention as he stood up from his spot. Suddenly, the Glade was quiet, only the sound of the wood burning as it crackled was heard, accompanied by the occasional cricket chirping, "It's been a week since some of y'all did something incredibly stupid and immature," he looked at the Sloppers and the twins, who avoided Alby's stare, "Thankfully, we didn't lose anyone because of that, but I hope that this would serve as a lesson, a reminder... Of why the Glade changed and became what it is now."
(M/n) looked at Alby, a few images flashing in his mind at his words, images from the past, from before waking up in the box, memories that faded away when he felt Gally holding his hand, maybe just a little too tight but not enough to cause him pain.
"We're stuck here together. We only have each other. We've been through this before, so let's not keep repeating the same mistake," he announced while raising his cup, and everyone did as well. (M/n) and Gally used their free hand to raise their half-full cup in the air, "Let's become more understanding and respectful from now on, shanks."
The Glade cheered, some of them enthusiastically, and some not so much, but they cheered nonetheless.
As Alby sat back down, Newt stood up and the cheering slowly ceased. He fidgeted with his cup for a few seconds.
"I just wanna say..." His brown eyes landed on (M/n) and he pursed his lips," I'm glad you're okay, (M/n)."
There was something about Newt's voice that made him feel like tearing up, he wasn't sure what it was, but he could hear sincerity in Newt's words.
"And uh... I'm sorry."
With those last words, Newt sat back down in complete silence. Everyone wondered why Newt apologized to (M/n), and even (M/n) did, but... Something told that apology was meant for several things that, while not physically shown or done, Newt felt guilty about, maybe they were just passing thoughts he had, but he smiled and accepted the apology.
"Well... Who wants more food?" Fry exclaimed as he stood up, probably as a way to ease the slightly tense air that filled the Glade, and it was followed by a crowd of 'Me!'s.
//////
The next day, (M/n) realized one of his stitches had fallen off, so he went over to Clint to get the other ones removed, which went pretty well. He did have some issues lifting his arm and a few spots felt numb to the touch, which he figured was gonna happen anyway, so he thanked Clint for his job and they left the Homestead, immediately heading separate ways.
With the new weapon shed built, the Builders and Baggers had been helping around to carry the weapons from the basement to the shed. That's when he spotted Billy carrying a wooden bow.
He felt interested in that weapon and wondered if he could possibly learn some archery, after all, he hadn't really learned how to use a weapon yet.
(M/n) stood by the swing for a short while, maybe he could spot Gally and ask him, but he found himself making eye contact with... The twins.
He forced himself to smile at them, nodding as a greeting, and while they were surprised at his gesture, they nodded back, albeit with a frown on their faces. In moments like that, it was obvious they were twins, they were so perfectly in sync it was almost creepy.
And then Billy stopped by.
"Hey, (M/n)," they smiled at each other, but this time it was genuine, "How's your shoulder? And your leg?"
He looked down at himself, completely forgetting he had been stung until now. He didn't feel discomfort or pain, so he dismissed it. "I actually forgot about my leg, which is funny," he chuckled and so did Billy in response, "And my shoulder is getting better, it'll... Take a while before I can do stuff around normally, but I'm doing fine, Billy, thank you for asking," the Keeper nodded slowly and subtly nibbled on his bottom lip.
(M/n) glanced away, overlooking the way he was being stared at by Billy.
"Well, I have... Stuff to do, so, see you around," (M/n) watched as Billy began walking backwards, leaving him alone by the trees. He gave a small wave toward the Keeper before turning back to stare into the Deadheads, waiting for Gally to come by.
And... There he was.
"Gally," he turned his head at the sound of his name, his focus now turned to (M/n) who was making his way toward him.
"What's wrong, bean?" He saw (M/n) smiling for an instant, and that made him smile as well.
"Nothing's wrong, but I... Wanted to ask you something," Gally frowned and crossed his arms, changing his stance but keeping quiet to allow (M/n) to continue, "Can I practice with the bow?"
He sighed and stared into (M/n)'s eyes, "Can your shoulder handle the strain?"
Oh, he hadn't thought about that...
"I mean... We can check, can't we?" A cheeky smile grew on (M/n)'s face, and Gally shook his head from side to side a few times.
"Fine, but you're helping us make the arrows if any of them break," standing straight, he saluted and began following after the blond.
He was hoping for a few things, one, that his shoulder could take the strain, and two, that the arrows would stay in perfect-ish condition.
///////
Of course, neither of those things came true. He found out his shoulder wasn't quite ready to wield a bow, and he ended up breaking quite a few arrowheads as he was unable to hold the bow straight and aim correctly.
However, thankfully, he didn't have to work on making new arrows just yet because dinner was called, so Gally decided to get stuff fixed and done tomorrow after work.
After each grabbing their food, they sat at the Builders' table and began their unstoppable chattering. Everyone had a good time, even if there were times when he could feel heavy stares on him, and swiftly looking around the Dining area, he would find himself making eye contact with either Stan, Jason or Peter, amongst other Sloppers, thankfully, Lucas never looked his way, and if he did, (M/n) never caught him.
But whenever he would stare into their eyes, he would show them a small smile, trying to look as friendly as he could. Deciding to try and be friends with them was a tough decision, but it was the morally correct one, people do stupid klunk for stupid reasons, and he hoped that they would turn themselves right after what they did.
Maybe it was a lot to ask, or foolish of him to believe they would, but... He had hope.
Dinner went by just like that, slowly but surely being able to just ignore the stares and enjoy the time with his friends for the remaining hours of another day in the Glade.
Once they were done eating, (M/n) took a step outside the Homestead, ready to head over to his treehouse, needing the comfort and safety of his own room, immediately hearing the sound of heavy footsteps behind him. He knew who it was without even glancing behind him.
"Need anything, Gally?" The blond hummed and took longer strides until they were walking side to side.
"Nope, not really, why?" (M/n) grinned and looked at him, slightly confused yet amused.
"Then why are you following me?" Those words seemed to make Gally realize where they were as he looked around for a few seconds, "Let me guess... A habit?"
He chuckled and scratched the back of his head, "Yeah, I got used to walking you to your room... Sorry..." He laughed nervously while avoiding eye contact.
(M/n) smiled at that.
"I mean, I might need help raising that ladder so... It's nice that you came after me," he bumped his side into Gally, making sure the blond knew he wasn't weirded out or mad at him, which worked to ease Gally's mind.
Soon enough, they arrived at (M/n)'s treehouse, greeting Bark who simply poked his snout out of his doghouse before snuggling back inside, and (M/n) did his best to climb up the stairs, holding most of his weight with his good arm, while Gally made sure he wouldn't fall off and hurt himself more.
Arriving at the balcony, he turned around with a huff and moved his hair away from his face, looking down at Gally, who had a tight grip on the wooden ladder, "You ready?" (M/n) nodded and held the top step of the ladder, getting ready to lift it.
Surprisingly, it was easier than he expected, and he didn't feel much pain in his shoulder, probably because Gally was the one doing most of the lifting, even when he could only reach upward so far.
"You good, bean?" (M/n) looked down at Gally, barely visible under the moonlight shining through the leaves of the trees, and he nodded as he sighed.
"Yep, thank you, Gal," they smiled at each other, despite knowing that the other couldn't see it, and (M/n) reached back to his door, "Well, good night."
"Yeah... Sleep well, see you tomorrow."
//////
"What about this one?" (M/n) grabbed a couple of stones and showed them to Gally, who glanced at each quickly, before pointing at the biggest one.
"That one works."
It was a new day in the Glade, and after being done with their daily work, or the majority of it, Gally and (M/n) had gone deep into the Deadheads to find stones and rocks, any kind that could work as an arrowhead and possibly other tools. They were searching for them near one of the few creeks that were in the woods and were having quite a chill, relaxing time, being able to be together in silence.
Which was unfortunately broken by the sound of rapid footsteps heading their way.
They stood straight and looked around, before noticing the approaching silhouettes of the Sloppers, more specifically, Stan, Peter and Lucas.
Both he and Gally got ready for a possible confrontation with them, and the blond stood slightly in front of (M/n) as a way to protect him from them. They frowned and watched how Stan came to a stop in front of them, and they waited for anything to happen.
"Why?!" Stan exclaimed while glaring at (M/n), whose frown deepened, "Why are you being such a bitch?! Uh?! Letting us go without a punishment?!" Gally and he glanced at each other momentarily before the arguing continued.
Stan kept yelling, angry at (M/n), exclaiming that he kept trying to fix things in the Glade with his understanding personality, constantly forgiving their slinthead behaviour for whatever reason.
(M/n) was beyond confused. Why was he mad, exactly? Stan almost sounded as if he wanted to be punished for his actions, which was weird, in a way. Or maybe he learned the meaning of "guilt" or "remorse", mayhaps, but that wasn't all he had to say.
"But you never understood how we felt with you around! A shucking girl!" Up until this point, (M/n) wasn't even mad or angry at Stan for what he was saying, but well...
He was now.
His jaw clenched and his hands closed in tight fists, taking a step forward and standing in front of Gally, getting closer to the Keeper of the Sloppers, "Maybe you're right, Stan, but you can't say that. Neither of you tried to understand how I felt here either, Stan." Confusion flashed in Stan's eyes for a moment, mostly hidden by the annoyance clear in them, "I woke up here like all of you did, I didn't choose to be here, okay? That's something you have no right blaming me for."
Before anyone could add anything, the sound of sticks breaking and crunchy leaves reached their ears.
Alby was standing there, arms crossed with Chuck and Ty peeking behind him. It was clear that both of them had called the Leader over, probably having heard Stan's voice as he yelled at them.
"Everything alright over here?" Stan looked away with a clenched jaw and huffed before turning around and leaving the same way he came. All pairs of eyes stayed on the Keeper until he disappeared behind the trees and (M/n) released a deep breath he didn't know he was holding, closing his head and tilting his head down.
"Yeah, just... A misunderstanding, I guess."
//////
The remaining time of the day, (M/n) tried to distract himself from what had happened earlier, and focused on what Gally and Kurt were explaining to him as they made the new arrowheads. They did it so quickly, it let (M/n) know just how accustomed they were to doing this, and he was kind of impressed.
For now, however, he was practicing on some of the "worse" stones and rocks they found, just to make sure he would learn and not ruin a good stone by accident, which he was grateful for because he did shucked up a couple of them, but he felt like he was getting there... Somehow.
He will be great at this one day, he can feel it.
He briefly looked up at both guys in front of him, and realized they were already assembling the heads onto the wood, while he was still figuring out how to make the correct shape without shattering the whole thing.
"I will get better at this..." He muttered, catching their attention, "One day..." They chuckled and Kurt shook his head before continuing what he was doing, while Gally observed how (M/n) focused back on the stone in his hands, concentrating on getting it as perfect as he could.
He let out a sigh and finished up with his arrow, just to stand up and make his way over to (M/n) sitting next to him, "Let me help you, bean."
(M/n) chuckled, slightly ashamed, "Sorry, big guy."
"Hm, it's okay, I like helping you," they made eye contact, but felt too embarrassed to do anything when one of their friends was literally sitting in front of them, so they looked away and focused back on making the arrows.

3. ATTRACTION
The instant that Alec’s crimson eyes met mine, the rest of the world around me seemed to fade away until he was the only thing I could see. My heart fluttered wildly in my chest and I felt a wave of serenity wash over me, easing away all of the anxiety and stress in my body. I had never felt calmer than I did right at that moment. All I could focus on was his perfect face and the way his beautiful lips pulled up into a slight, surprisingly soft smile.
I was suddenly pulled out of the moment when Alice wrapped her frozen hand around my arm and jerked me closer to her side, breaking my eye contact with Alec as I blinked. He looked away from me to shoot a dark glare at the tiny vampire beside me. Alice dropped her hand from my arm quickly.
I sucked in a shocked breath as the fuzzy, calm feeling that had settled in my mind faded away. What had just happened?
“Aro will be so pleased to see you again,” Alec said to Edward a moment later, as if nothing had happened.
I frowned, my eyebrows pulling together in confusion. It felt like whatever had happened between me and Alec spanned a couple minutes, but everyone was acting as if only a few seconds had passed. Was all of it just in my mind? Had I just imagined what had happened between us?
“Let’s not keep him waiting,” Jane said.
Alec and Jane led the way down another wide, ornate hall. They ignored a set of golden doors and instead stopped halfway down the hall. Alec slid aside a piece of paneling to expose a plain wooden door. He held it open for Jane.
The stone antechamber opened up into a brighter, cavernous room. It was perfectly round, with long windows that threw thin rectangles of light onto the stone floor below. Three massive, wooden chairs that looked almost like thrones were spaced unevenly along the curving stone walls. In the very center of the room was another drain, but I was somehow sure that the Volturi didn’t use this one as an entrance to the streets outside.
Several people were in the room already, murmuring softly to each other. I watched two women who were wearing sundresses as they passed through one of the patches of light. My mouth parted and my eyes widened in awe as their glittering skin reflected thousands of tiny rainbows against the walls.
So that was why Bella had to stop Edward from stepping into the sunlight.
The people in the room turned towards us as we entered the room. Almost as if it was an instinct, my eyes darted towards Alec. He was already looking at me. I could just barely make out the way the corner of his lips pulled up very slightly when I looked at him. The calm feeling coursed through my body again, slowing down my racing heart just a fraction.
My focus was pulled away from Alec when a man began to move towards our group. The man was dressed in a long, pitch-black robe that brushed along the floor. His long hair was the exact same color as his robe.
“Jane, dear one, you’ve returned!” he cried in delight.
He moved towards us gracefully, his movements so smooth that it seemed as if he was floating across the floor rather than walking. The man was beautiful, but not in the same way the other vampires were beautiful. His features were aesthetically perfect, but his skin was translucently white and seemed to be incredibly delicate, as if even a gentle touch would make it flake away. His red eyes were clouded over by a thin, white film.
The man stopped in front of Jane. He took her face in his hands and kissed her lightly on her full lips. He stepped back.
“Yes, Master.” Jane smiled up at him. “I brought him back alive, just as you wished.”
He smiled. “Ah, Jane. You are such a comfort to me.” His eyes moved to the Cullens and me and my sister and his smile brightened. “And Alice and Bella and Eve, too! This is a happy surprise! Wonderful!”
My breath caught in my throat when he said my name — my nickname. How did he even know who I was? Had Edward told him about me?
The man turned to the tall, bulky vampire who had helped escort us. “Felix, be a dear and tell my brothers about our company. I’m sure they wouldn’t want to miss this.”
“Yes, Master.”
Felix disappeared through the door we had entered from.
“You see, Edward?” The vampire that seemed to be the leader of the Volturi turned and smiled at Edward. “What did I tell you? Aren’t you glad that I didn’t give you what you wanted yesterday?”
“Yes, Aro, I am.”
“I love a happy ending,” Aro said, still grinning. “They are so rare. But I want the whole story. How did this happen? Alice?” He turned to look at the girl curiously. “Your brother seemed to think you infallible, but apparently there was some mistake.”
“Oh, I’m far from infallible.” Alice smiled at him, looking eerily calm except for her hands, which were balled into tight fists. “As you can see today, I cause problems as often as I cure them.”
“You’re too modest. I’ve seen some of your more amazing exploits, and I must admit I’ve never observed anything like your talent. Wonderful!”
Alice’s golden eyes flickered towards Edward, and mine moved to glance at Alec again.
I wasn’t sure why I kept looking over at him, but I felt almost as if I was drawn to him for some inexplicable reason. Every time our eyes met, that strange, peaceful feeling flowed through me, washing away the anxiety that would just start to build up again the moment I looked away.
“Aro needs physical contact to hear your thoughts, but he hears much more than I do,” Edward said, drawing my attention away from Alec. “You know I can only hear what’s passing through your head in the moment. Aro hears every thought your mind has ever had.”
“But to hear from a distance. . . .” Aro sighed, gesturing between Edward and Alice as they seemed to share an exchange. “That would be so convenient.”
Aro looked over our shoulders. Everyone turned to look behind us.
Felix had returned, with two more black-robed men floating behind him. Both looked very much like Aro, with the same, cloudy irises and thin, flaky skin, though their long hair was different colors — one was a warm brown and the other was snow-white.
“Marcus, Caius, look!” Aro exclaimed. “Bella is alive after all, and her sister and Alice are here with her! Isn’t that wonderful?”
Neither of the men looked nearly as intrigued as Aro did. The brown-haired man looked bored, while the blonde seemed annoyed.
“Let us have the story,” Aro said.
The blonde vampire drifted towards one of the three wooden thrones. The other paused beside Aro, reaching out his hand and touching Aro’s palm briefly before he dropped his hand back to his side. Aro raised one black brow.
Edward snorted and Alice glanced at him curiously. Once again, my eyes drifted over towards where Alec stood as Aro murmured, “Thank you, Marcus. That’s quite interesting.”
I looked away from Alec, my anxiety temporarily washed away again, and I realized that Marcus had been letting Aro read his thoughts. Marcus’s expression of boredom hadn’t changed in the slightest. He moved away from Aro to join Caius, the two vampires trailing slightly behind him. I assumed that they were bodyguards, especially once I noticed the two women in sundresses had gone to stand beside Caius in the same manner.
“Amazing,” Aro said, shaking his head. “Absolutely amazing.”
Edward explained in a low voice, “Marcus sees relationships. He’s surprised by the intensity of ours.”
A grin spread across Aro’s face. “Very curious. . . . It takes quite a bit to surprise Marcus, I can assure you. It’s just so difficult to understand, even now.” He stared at Edward, who had his arm locked around Bella. “How can you stand so close to her like that?”
“It’s not without effort.”
“But still — la tua cantante! What a waste!”
Edward laughed humorlessly. “I look at it more as a price.”
“A very high price.”
“Opportunity cost.”
Aro laughed. “If I hadn’t smelled her through your memories, I wouldn’t have believed the call of anyone’s blood could be so strong. I’ve never felt anything like it myself. Most of us would trade much for such a gift, and yet you. . . .”
“Waste it,” Edward finished, his voice almost bored.
Aro laughed again. “Ah, how I miss my friend Carlisle! You remind me of him — only he was not so angry.”
“Carlisle outshines me in many other ways as well.”
“I certainly never thought to see Carlisle bested for self-control of all things, but you put him to shame.”
“Hardly.”
I shifted nervously at Edward’s impatient tone. I swore I could feel Alec’s eyes on me before I even looked over at him. Sure enough, when I turned my head, he was watching me. His face was blank, expressionless — yet I thought I could see some flicker of emotion in his blood-red eyes before I looked away again.
“Just remembering how she appeals to you. . . .” Aro chuckled. “It makes me thirsty.”
His horrifying words made my skin crawl as my stomach twisted in disgust.
“Don’t be disturbed,” Aro said to Edward, who had stiffened at his words. “I mean her no harm. But I am so curious, about one thing in particular.” His cloudy eyes flicked to Bella before they returned to Edward. “May I?” Aro asked eagerly, lifting his hand.
“Ask her,” Edward said.
“Of course, how rude of me! Bella,” he addressed my sister, “I’m fascinated that you are the one exception to Edward’s impressive talent — so very interesting that such a thing should occur! And I was wondering, since our talents are similar in many ways, if you would be so kind as to allow me to try — to see if you are an exception for me, as well?”
My breath caught in my throat as my heart rate skyrocketed. I looked at my sister, who looked up at Edward in horror. He nodded to her. Bella turned back towards Aro and raised her trembling hand slowly.
Aro glided closer and took her hand between both of his. I held my breath as I watched them. Aro’s confident expression seemed to wave for just a moment before he calmed his face back into a friendly mask.
“So very interesting,” he murmured as he let go of her hand.
My breath left me in a rush of relief and Aro’s eyes flicked to me. He tilted his head slightly as a smile curled on his pale lips. My stomach twisted uncomfortably again.
“Eve?” he asked, extending his hand.
Before I even realized what I was doing, I was turning my head, my eyes meeting Alec’s in an attempt to seek his reassurance. He gave me a very slight nod and the calm feeling settled deep inside me once again. I looked away and lifted my hand.
Aro took it between his own hands. His eyes stared into mine so intensely that I didn’t dare to even blink, let alone look away. Unlike with Bella, his confident mask didn’t waver. I wondered why Aro was intrigued by me at all. There was nothing special about me. I hadn’t even known that vampires existed until last night.
He smiled at me and patted my hand gently before he finally stepped back, away from all of us. I let out another relieved breath.
“A first,” he said to himself, his eyes flickering between me, Bella, Alice, and Edward. He shook his head. “I wonder if she is immune to our other talents. . . . Jane, dear?”
“No!” Edward snarled, making me flinch. Alice grabbed his arm but he shook her off quickly.
Jane smiled happily at Aro. “Yes, Master?”
A loud, vicious, feral snarl ripped up through Edward’s throat as he glared at Aro. The sound made me cringe away from him in fear.
I gasped when, suddenly, I was wrapped in someone’s firm, unyielding arms, my face pressed against the person’s cold chest and my arm caught between our bodies. A low growl rumbled through the body of the person holding me. My entire body trembled as I slowly looked up to their face.
Alec’s ruby eyes were locked on Edward, his lip pulled up in a snarl as he held me tight in his arms.

@headstrongblake said: just sleep in the bed with me. i'll even make a pillow wall between us / o & rev 😂🤷🏼‍♀️
they hadn't been expecting the damage done to the everheart cabin to make it inhabitable for the next little while. and they'd sleep out in the damn forest if people wouldn't have questions, if hunter hadn't already spilled the news about how they had to replace the flooring from flooding, replace the roofing, how a giant tree branch caved through the ceiling during one of the heavy storms. when octavia offered to share her apartment with them while the damage was being assessed and fixed, rev huffed and puffed, muttering under their breath how they'd rather sleep out in the damn mud.
of course hunter on the other hand, the more polite of the two siblings, accepted with gratitude, telling her that it should only be a couple weeks and they could also find somewhere else if the place was feeling crowded. with hunter being relegated to bellamy's room, rev was offered to spend the night either with octavia or the couch for which they had opted to immediately. they didn't like sleeping this close in town, didn't like living in an apartment where the walls were thin and there were far too many noises. they could hear people walking by outside as they laid on the couch, frowning deeply up at the ceiling until they noticed octavia leave her room for a drink.
rev wasn't as tall as most of the men they all hung around but they were quite taller than the girls (and alec)... and clearly the couch as their socked feet hung off the end of the couch. were they comfortable? no. and as they unwillingly made eye contact with octavia it was clear it wasn't something they had hidden in their gaze. "what?" rev muttered, arms crossing over their chest self concsiously. they wore sweats and a baggy tshirt to bed but without their binder on they still felt uneasy. you can't be comfortable like that... octavia observed, just sleep in the bed with me. she suggested and rev frowned, looking away with a scoff. "no way i want you trying to cuddle me in your sleep thinking i'm kassy," they muttered, aqua eyes glancing sideways back over at octavia who rolled her eyes. i'll even make a pillow wall between us... c'mon rev. she urged.
rev thought about it a moment, hating the thought of sleeping in proximity of someone but if it was somewhat quieter in there? further away from the hall and all the buzzing of the fridge and microwave and tv. sighing heavily, rev groaned, "fiiiiiiine," they muttered, "but if you move one ounce over the pillow wall, your ass is ending up on the ground," they threatened as they rose from the couch. "and i mean it," they added following behind octavia into her bedroom. they glared over at the closed door of bellamys room and huffed. hunter was probably sleeping like a baby in there, lucky bastard.

In the middle of writing my DND!Dead Boy Detectives au thing paragraph per paragraph and trying to figure out if I want to change the publication order of some fics for I'm down on my knees, I am also continuing work on Chapter 2 of The City of Bones for immortal instruments! Snippet for proof:
The one thing all three shadowhunters seem to agree on is that it’s too late to back out of the meeting with the Silent Brothers.
“Guys,” she says, feeling much smaller than she ever meant to, “I’m scared.”
“I know,” Jace says, immediately stepping up to her and wrapping her into a tight hug. “Shit, Clary, I’m so sorry, I didn’t know, I—”
“What’s going to happen to me?” Clary asks, voice breaking in the middle.
She feels Izzy’s hand land on her shoulder, feels the way she shakes it a little bit.
“Hey, hey hey hey, none of that,” she says, soft and urgent, “none of that. You’re going to be okay. It’s going to suck like a bitch for a while, but you’ll get through it, and you’re going to be okay, alright?”
Clary wants to believe her. She wants to stay right there in Jace’s arms, in a place that isn’t home but is safe, and let someone else deal with the dangerous procedure. More than any of that, she wants her mom. She wants her sense of safety back, she wants to be able to feel like everything is alright again, maybe even if it means forgetting about Jace. Thinking that makes her feel guilty, though, so after one last rough sniffle, she makes herself step away from Jace and dry her eyes, just as Alec’s bedroom door clics open again.
The first thing Clary notices when he comes out is his posture. He stands up straight, visibly taller than even Izzy. He combed his hair and put it into a much neater bun than the ones he’s been sporting for the past few days, and changed his ratty jeans and distended shirt for a pair of black slacks, a clean navy shirt, and a black suit jacket—his hands, when he comes out, are busy arranging a navy square pocket until it sits just so, and when he turns to Clary he makes direct eye contact with her for what might well be the first time since she’s met him. Clary stares, feeling a little bit like she’s looking at a stranger who somehow borrowed Alec’s skin.
Jace and Izzy, on the other hand, don’t seem surprised at all. As soon as Alec says “Let’s go.” in a deeper, much more confident voice than usual, they fall in step two paces behind him, Jace on his right and Izzy on his left, like bodyguards. The whole set-up is so obviously practiced, so soldier-like, Clary can’t help but feel like they’re about to take her to a firing squad. She sees Alec gesture for her to walk by his side, and she’s about to join him when Izzy puts a hand on her arm.
“Wait,” she says, “I have an idea.”

don't kiss me right now
takes place at the end of city of bones. jace returns home from being kidnapped by valentine, world torn to pieces from the news he received and is looking for any sense of normalcy he can get his hands on.
cw: mild cursing, a couple injuries mentioned
takes place the same night as old friends and familiar faces. could be considered part two.
The dust settled—Rowan finally got Isabelle to go to bed, staying there until she fell asleep, per her request. She was anxious about Jace who still wasn’t home, but she needed to rest in order to heal what the iratze couldn’t. They stopped in the infirmary to check on Alec, who was still asleep. He looked peaceful there—which made them happy but concerned them a little. To save their own sanity, they took his wrist in their hand and held two fingers to the outside, feeling for his pulse. It helped ease their anxieties about him, knowing the magic Magnus used was working and he was just asleep. They gently laid his hand back down and wrote a small note on a scrap piece of paper, leaving it on the bedside table.
I’m in the library. Shout if you need something. And if you insist on moving, please use the crutches. —R
With that, they walked off to the library, curling up on the window seat with the book they’d left there a few days prior. It shocked them that they hadn’t seen Hodge in a few hours, but he was known to disappear into the greenhouse for hours. They weren’t taking the trip up.
They had only a few pages of the book left when they heard the Institute front doors open—they were pretty large so made some noise when they moved. With a sigh, they stood and made their way out of the library, going to see who was at the door at this hour. Hopefully, it wasn’t someone from the Clave Maryse forgot to warn them was coming. They had enough problems right now.
Isabelle was in the hallway when they turned the corner, also walking in the direction of the foyer. “You’re up early,” they said, falling into step with her. “You alright?”
“Can't sleep,” she said with a sigh. “Do you know who’s here?”
“I’m hoping it’s not your mom, at least,” they said, trying (and probably failing) to keep the mood light. “We’ve got enough on our plate. And we still need to find—“
They turned the corner into the foyer and saw Jace standing by the door, kicking off dirty boots and shucking off his jacket. There was some blood on his shirt—which they hoped wasn’t his own.
“Jace,” Isabelle said in a half whisper, practically running for him. She jumped into his arms and squeezed tight around his neck, feet coming off of the floor slightly as he sat up a little straighter. They noticed the tired look in his eyes as he picked up his head, making eye contact with them from a few feet away. He said nothing, just stared blankly until Isabelle pulled away. Something was incredibly wrong with him.
“Where were you? Are you alright?” she asked, running her hands over his arms, inspecting for injuries. “Are you bleeding?”
He shook his head. “I’m fine. And Cl—” he coughed like the words were uncomfortable. “Clary is fine.” He spoke slowly, labored—there was a lot he wasn’t letting on and they were curious. The look in his eye told them to leave him alone for the time being, though.
There was a soft noise behind them, like someone stumbling forward. They turned to see Alec, fumbling with the crutches, slowly hobbling out of the infirmary doors. “What’s all the noise?” he asked, rubbing his eyes while trying not to drop the crutches.
This time, it was Jace who moved. Isabelle stepped out of his way as he made a beeline for Alec, brushing past Rowan like they didn’t even exist. A few months ago, that would have hurt. Maybe it did now. But they never could compete with the relationship they had, could they?
Alec stumbled back slightly, though Jace kept him upright in his arms. Slowly, his shoulders relaxed and Alec’s head fell on his shoulder. They could hear the two mumbling, but not what was said, and they saw Jace’s shoulders shake slightly. They both stood there, longer than they expected, in an embrace that they knew they each needed.
The bond between two parabatai was something they’d never understand, though they wished they could. For a while, when they were kids, they thought they did—Alec, maybe. They were inseparable for a long time—the three of them became a trio, after a while. There was always something different between the two, though; they didn’t think they’d ever understand it. Things were tense between themselves and Jace lately, which made things strained with them and Alec. They were one and the same in a lot of ways, but opposites in others. They were soul brothers in a way they couldn’t describe. It was evident in the way both of their shoulders slumped, finally relaxing once they knew the other was safe.
When Jace finally pulled away, he still kept close to Alec, keeping his hand on his arm. “I can tell everyone the story in the morning, I…I don’t think I’ll be awake for very long.”
Alec nodded. “My leg hurts,” he muttered, slowly slumping over his crutches the longer he stayed awake.
Isabelle made her way to the two of them, Rowan joining her shortly after. “Bedtime,” they said gently, gesturing down the hall. “Alec, forgive me, but I’m not trusting you upstairs yet. Back to the infirmary.”
He groaned like a toddler being asked to go to bed at a normal hour. It made each of them crack a smile as they led everyone back the hall. Isabelle broke off from them with a quick “goodnight”, and they continued down to the infirmary.
[][][][][]
After getting Alec set up with a glass of water and enough blankets to keep him warm, they turned back to Jace. He sat on the bed next to Alec’s, applying an iratze to his forearm. They sat on the bed next to him, silent until he was done. He put the stele down and ran his hand through his hair. It was quiet. Though New York was never exactly silent, the Institute walls blocked out much of the noise from outside. Surprisingly, Alec broke the silence first—with quiet snores as he slept.
“Is that your I’m going to lecture you for disappearing look or your I’m waiting to pick a fight look? Because I’m not in the mood.” Jace’s voice was dry and sarcastic, clearly tired. They noticed the shadows under his eyes and his hands shaking slightly—the longer they looked, the worse he appeared.
“Neither,” they said. “Just…don’t want to go to bed yet.”
“Me neither.” He turned slightly towards them, curling his legs next to him to sit semi-comfortably on the stiff bed.
Rowan had always paid attention to the little details—there were things they knew about Jace that few others did. He liked to flip a stele between his fingers like a pencil, fidgeting with it when he was bored. For such a calm and collected person, they’d noticed over the years he had a hard time sitting still, especially if he was anxious about something. When he was thinking, he furrowed his eyebrows just slightly. When he was tired, his shoulders slumped forward, his impeccable posture falling to the wayside.
And they knew from the look in his eye as soon as he turned what was coming next.
Jace kissed them.
It was gentle, probably more gentle than he’d ever kissed them in his life. He wouldn’t admit it but he was fragile at the moment. Whatever happened when he left broke him and he was vying for something to stabilize him. This was familiar—they spent almost two years kissing between training sessions and hanging out in the library, going on missions together, saying little “I love you”s before they fell asleep—they had a hard time sleeping on their own and spent many nightmare-filled nights in his bed instead.
The worst part—they felt a pit in their stomach as they realized they enjoyed it. They missed spending time with him, laughing with him, kissing him…they were still, stupidly, in love with him. It didn’t matter how angry they were or how harsh his words were when they fought, they couldn’t deny the rush they felt when he kissed them, when his hand found theirs—in short, it was intoxicating and he never wanted it to end.
He pulled away first, but they backed up farther. They could see the guilt in his eyes as he realized what he’d done, but there was no point in yelling at him and waking Alec. They’d never seen the look on Jace’s face before when he came in the Institute doors a few minutes prior—shell shocked and almost in tears, but it looked like they wouldn’t come if he tried to make himself cry. That was a terrible feeling—swallowing your pride and trying to cry but being unable to. They were all too familiar.
“Jace,” they said softly, glancing down to their hands—he still had his on top of theirs and they didn’t pull away.
His voice shook when he spoke. “I’m sorry—“
“Don’t.” They cut him off, not wanting to hear apologies when he was so distraught. “What happened?”
He fell forward, burying his face in his hands and resting his elbows on his knees. They watched, again, as his shoulders and breath shook but heard no semblance of cries. In general, they weren’t good at comforting people—despite their issues, though, they would try. Not trying would be cruel at this point.
They ran their hand up and down his back, mimicking the things he used to do for them when they woke up with a terrible dream. He settled after a moment and explained. “I found Valentine,” he said, sitting up a bit straighter. They didn’t stop. “He…he took me to his hideout in New York. He told me he’s my father.”
Rowan paused, mouth opening in shock. “That’s not possible, you said—“
“He faked his death and sent me here. He…he knew if people found out he wasn’t Michael Wayland, they’d try to kill him and me, so he ran. He left me alone for years, I…”
He trailed off, struggling to find the words he needed to explain everything. They inched a little closer, very gently laying their arm around his shoulders. “There’s more,” he said after a long minute. “Valentine…he’s also Clary’s father. She’s my sister.”
Rowan’s eyes went wide, but they barely had time to process what he just said when he turned into them and rested his head on their shoulder, half in a hug. Clearly, he needed it.
That was why he kissed them. That’s why he was spending the night in the infirmary next to Alec—not because he was injured, but because he didn’t want to be alone. That’s why he bolted for Alec the moment he saw him. He needed something normal and familiar now that his life had been completely turned upside down. They took a deep breath and brushed a hand through his hair, trying to help him somehow. But how do you help something like that?
“I’m sorry, Jace,” they muttered, continuing the small movements, trying to soothe him in any way possible. They knew how much he cared for Clary, not that anyone had to tell them. They’d watch how he looked at her—similar to how he looked at them, once, but somehow it was different. There was something stronger between them—a connection, maybe similar to that of his and Alec’s, that they’d never understand. Maybe that’s what it was. Something didn’t feel right about it, but who were they to question it?
He didn’t say anything for the rest of the night. After a while, they realized he’d fallen asleep on their shoulder and decided to try to make him comfortable. He’d always been a light sleeper so he tried not to move him too much. They kept their hand on his head and laid him down as they crawled off of the bed and pulled the sheet over him. They placed his stele, still on the bed, on the nightstand and sighed, returning to the library.
They knew for a fact, once they met this girl with the Sight, things were going to change. Nothing good becomes of mundanes getting involved in the Shadow World. Now Valentine is back and Hodge was gone, Alec almost died, Clary and Jace are siblings and they had no idea what was going to happen next. They always had a plan—whether it was the things they wanted to do in a day, or their goals for the next five years. They had something to rely on and some idea of what they wanted to do—something to come back to. However, they had a sinking feeling that all of that was going to change incredibly soon.

Unraveled Ch.5: Tough Times
Tumblr media
Ch.4 Ch.6
"Jenkinson?" Alec questions back, looking forward and shoving his hands in his pockets as he continues forward, as if our conversation never occurred.
"The Chief Super. I saw you walking with her." Ellie quickly states back, looking over at him.
"No." Alec quickly denies, his blunt and stubborn attitude making it hard for me to stifle the smirk begging to appear.
"I did, you were having 99s." Ellie pursues, looking over to me for help. I simply smile and continue walking.
"Miller, your son went to school with Danny. Does he know yet." Alec voices as he continues to avoid her questions by changing the subject, instead getting straight to talking about the case.
"...No." Ellie reluctantly replies back, looking at the ground in thought as Alec glances over to her.
At this point I begin to space out, something I've been doing way too much of, but I have too much to think about. How will Tom take the news of his friend's death? Does Tom know anything? I also should probably go and check on Beth and her family after this.
I continue walking until I hear Ellie asking Alec to stop calling her Miller, causing my head to turn up to watch the conversation play through, already knowing he's not going to call her Ellie.
"Why?" He questions, genuinely wondering why.
"I don't really like the surname thing. I prefer Ellie." She quickly replies, looking over as she talks. I look over to Alec as he thinks about it.
"Ellie..Ellie... No." he states after speaking her name, striding away after deciding 'No'. This time I'm unable to hold in my slight giggle at her facial expression, sliding an arm around her shoulders and pulling her into a side hug.
"Oh Ellie, you'll get used to him." I voice as I continue to grin widely. I quickly release her before I run to catch up with Alec. Looking back to see her look of shock dwindle into one of annoyance. Elbowing him slightly, he looks at me before breaking a smile at seeing my obnoxiously happy grin. Myself laughing even more as I hear Ellie shout at how he calls me by my first name.
——————————
We have just arrived at Jack's, we're here to question him because he interacted with Danny regularly. In my time at Broadchurch, he's probably the third closest person to me, Ellie and Beth being tied for number one, with Reverend Paul being second.
As soon as we walk in Jack slightly smiles at me in welcoming.
"Hello Elspeth. What can I do for you?" I smile back as Ellie replies.
"Jack, we need to ask you a few questions. Danny didn't turn up for his round this morning?" A look of sadness engulfs Jack's face at Ellie's question, Alec over to the side looking through some papers as he listens.
"I assumed he was sick." Jack replies.
"Did he often miss his round?" I question, Jack's vision shifting to me.
"They all do, one time or another." He responds, Alec looking up finally to make eye contact with Ellie and me. I could see immediately that Jack was going to be in for it if Alec thought he heard something incriminating. I know about Jack's past, I did some digging up on everyone I met here, after finding the news I made him explain what really happened. I believe that there is only one other person who knows about his past wife and son, and I can only pray that it doesn't get dragged into this investigation.
"How was Danny yesterday?" Ellie replies as Alec looks away. Jack's expression looked as though his eyes were watering in grief.
"No different than usual." He replies, slight exasperation in his voice.
"Did you notice anything on his mind in the last couple of weeks?" Ellie continues questioning.
"He was only in here 15 minutes first thing. I-I'm not a psychiatrist." Jack answers, I notice Alec lifts his head up and looks at Jack. I know Alec is a great detective, but his blunt questions always have startled me, even when we were just children.
"You married?" Alec suddenly asks, I glance over at him then back to Jack, knowing Jack's response.
"No. Are you?" Jack fires back, his eyebrows scrunched down at the question. They stare at each other for a second, Jack turning to me as Ellie glanced over at Alec, I just slightly cringe seeing as I only recently learned of my best friend's divorce.
"They brought him in here, Mark and Beth. Three days old, he was. It's not right." Jack states as he looks between me and Ellie before glancing at Alec at the end.
Ending our questions, Alec and Ellie walk out of the shop, not noticing how I didn't follow. I waited a few seconds before going over to Jack and grasping his hand, a few held back tears escaping his eyes.
"Jack, I know this is an awful thing, especially with what happened to you. You're like a father figure to me, as well a guide for the young children in the Sea Brigade, but you need to tell them what happened in your past." I explain in sympathy as he grips my hand.
"I know Els, but my past is mine, and mine alone." Jack states as he releases my hand and wipes away his tears. I sigh, knowing that would be his response.
"I promised to never tell anyone about it, and that promise still stands; just know that with this case, reporters are going to try to get a story out of anything, guard yourself." I state as I nod my head bye and run to catch up to Alec.
————————
"What'd ya have?" Alec asks solemnly. I look away from the man to the screen as he gives us the rundown of his injuries.
"Superficial cuts and bruises to the face. Traces of domestic cleaning fluid on the skin. Cause of death was asphyxiation. He was strangled. Bruising to the neck and the windpipe, and at the top of the spine. Patterns of bruises suggest large hands, I'd suggest a male. It, um, it would've been brutal. The angle suggests he would've been facing his attacker. He would've known." The man finishes. Throughout his explanation I stayed leaning against the wall by the door, looking down. Child murders have always been the worst experiences for me, and it seems this one plans to leave a lasting effect.
"Any sexual violence?" Alec questions after the explanation, throwing a glance over to me, but I don't return his look as I continue to stare at the floor. Silently holding my breath, praying the answer is no, ever since that terrible event happened to me I have become excessively sensitive when this question comes up.
"Mercifully, no." I let out a quiet sigh of relief, finally looking up. Glancing at Ellie to see she's nearly crying. I slowly step over and grasp her hand.
"Time of death?" Alec continues.
"I'd put between 10:00pm Thursday night, and 4:00 am Friday morning." Alec sucks in air noisily as he closes the folder before saying thank you to the man and shaking his hand, I release Ellie's hand and shake the man's. We turn to leave, Alec grabbing my upper arm and leading me with him before we hear the coroner start talking again.
"We don't get these around here. Make sure you find them." The man voices. Alec looked from me to Ellie. Before continuing on his way, myself being pulled with him.
Alec drags me out of the station as we're already on our way to inform the family. Ellie looks questioningly at his actions, especially at how he is holding my arm and is about to say something when Alec interrupts.
"Go grab the car Miller." he harshly vocalizes, not even sparing her a glance. Ellie looks like she wants to say something, but leaves to grab the car with a huff of annoyance, leaving us alone.
"Are you alright?" Alec quietly questions as he releases his harsh grip on my arm. I rub it slightly staring down at the ground.
"I'm fine, why?" I respond, though my voice quivers slightly, the memories of Pippa's decomposing body flashing through my mind, causing me to scrunch my eyes close in an attempt to rid my mind of the image.
"Els...Els... Elswyth! Look at me dammit!" Alec nearly shouts after a few seconds of me not reacting. I look up at him shouting, the tears blurring my vision, his frustrated gaze immediately softening at my state. He reaches over, but I flinch and back up slightly. He hesitates before he reaches over again, but confidently continues as I don't move away. He tenderly grasps my left shoulder and drags me into a soft hug, my face pressed into his neck as I hug him back, his head resting against the top of mine. One of his hands rubbing soft circles against my back, his other softly resting against my neck as he calmly hushes me, some tears managing to escape my tired eyes.
After a few seconds of his comfort I am significantly calmer and try to pull myself together, Alec softly kisses the side of my head before we pull back from the hug, myself blushing slightly, Alec having a light tint of pink on his cheeks. I look at him before smiling despite my burning eyes.
"Thank you, this case has been harder to deal with than I expected." I say as I sheepishly lower my gaze.
"It's alright Els, I knew this would bring back bad memories... for the both of us." Alec softly replies. He's about to say more when Ellie pulls up in front of the station.
"Are you riding with us?" Alec questions, looking back at me.
"No, I'll grab my car and meet you at the Latimer's." I reply after thinking for a second. I was going to hug him before remembering Ellie was there, deciding a smile was better before heading off to my car.
————————
"We have some preliminary findings.... We are treating Danny's death as suspicious." Alec states to the family. Ellie is trying to hold it together as I watch their responses. Beth looks like she's falling apart, Mark looks like he's bottling it all up, and Liz looks heartbroken.
"We think he may have been killed." Alec finishes.
"I should've checked on him before I went to bed. If I'd checked..."Beth voices, immediately blaming herself. I want to tell her this isn't her fault, but I know it's best to let them run their mouths. I look over at Chloe to see her leaving as Ellie talks.
"Beth, this is not your fault. Whatever happened, this is not down to you." Ellie immediately emphasizes. I can see Alec glancing over at her as a silent 'shut up'.
"I promise, we will find the person responsible....You have my word." Alec promises after a pause. I look at him, knowing that he's probably going to overwork himself to find this killer, and I'm going to have to work even harder to make sure he doesn't kill himself in the process. I know how this case is bringing up memories of our failure, and Alec is making a personal promise to this family.
————————
After informing the family we all head out, Alec and Ellie in one car and myself in my own. We pull over at a shell station, I pay and start filling my car before heading in to buy some food, bumping into Ellie.
"Els, do you and Hardy know each other or something?" Ellie questions, I glance outside to see Alec anxiously waiting. I'm about to respond when Ellie gets a call, I quickly grab two granola bars, and pay for them, heading out while Ellie is on the phone. I walk out to see Alec hold up his watch as a 'hurry up' to Ellie. I sit next to him and hold out one of the bars, he looks down at it skeptically, then back to me as if to say 'I'm not eating that'.
"Don't give me that shit Alec, I'm not stupid enough to miss how much weight you've lost since the last time we saw each other. Not to mention you look like a dead man walking." I state sternly as I stare straight ahead, still holding out the bar for him. He grumpily mumbles something as he lazily yanks it out of my hand.
"So, do you think Miller's noticed that we know each other?" He questions, the sound of the crinkly wrapper being pulled down off the bar filling the already noisy atmosphere.
"Funny thing, she was just asking me if we knew each other when she got a phone call." I state. The air between us quiets down as he takes a bite of the bar, giving me an incredulous look after swallowing it. I look over at him, eyebrows raised in amusement at his look of disgust.
"Why would you buy this, it's appalling." He questions rhetorically, his accent thickening in his last word. I hum humorously at his expression, earning a small smile from him. He tentatively wraps his arm behind my back, pulling me into his side slightly. I lean against him as I gently sigh in exhaustion.
"Y'know, I've really missed you Els." He voices as he looks down at me, his smile turning into a pleased grin when I look up at him and return the smile. I'm about to respond when a disgruntled Ellie exits the shop, both of us instantly separating from each other.
I slide off the hood and head back to my own car as Alec and Ellie get into hers, the expression of worry was very obvious on Ellie's face, which is only prompting me to worry about what that phone call was about.
Ellie and Alec head off, and just as I start my car I get a notification on twitter, one that immediately infuriates me. My only thoughts are on how I'll postpone going to the station and make a detour to slap Oliver upside the head.

CHAPTER ELEVEN
Over the months, Alec and Magnus got closer and closer. They’d make sure they had dates once a week and would keep in contact via text message all the time. Magnus’s visits to the coffee shop had decreased in favour of Alec just taking his coffee to the office during his break. On those occasions, it usually ended with a make-out session and Alec being back late after his break. Lydia would just roll her eyes at him. The first time it had happened Alec had tried to claim that traffic had made him late until Lydia pointed out that he had walked and that there was a fresh hickey on his neck.
Luckily for Alec, his siblings seemed to have lost interest enough to stop randomly turning up in his apartment. They had an annoying habit of letting themselves in while he was out with Magnus and waiting for him to get home. Alec refused to bring Magnus up simply because a part of him knew they would be lurking.
“Why don’t you ever invite Magnus upstairs?” Isabelle asked over coffee one day.
He’d met up with his siblings on his day off to discuss boundaries and just to check in with them after their finals.
“Because you tend to be there,” Alec replied, raising an eyebrow at his sister.
“Don’t you want us to meet him?”
Alec blinked at her. “You already know him. You were on speaking terms with him before I was. Hell, you went on a shopping trip together last week.”
Isabelle looked like she wanted to say something but stopped. Alec thought she would drop the subject but alas he wasn’t that lucky.
“What about having him meet Jace?”
“Because Jace is a menace.”
Jace let out an offended huff before joining the conversation. “I am not. Clearly, with that attitude, you don’t get laid enough, Alec.”
Alec looked at Isabelle with a see what I mean expression on his face. Isabelle just shook her head before looking at her brother and Alec just knew he wasn’t going to like the next question she asked.
“Why haven’t you and Magnus…” she trailed off, and Alec was thankful that she didn’t finish the sentence.
“Fucked,” Jace finished for her, making Alec ponder what life would have been like if his parents hadn’t adopted the blond idiot.
“I just…” Alec wasn’t entirely sure he wanted to admit his fear to his siblings. Isabelle placed her hand on his and he added quietly. “I’m scared.”
“Of?” Isabelle prompted, shooting daggers at Jace in case he chose to say something stupid.
Alec stayed quiet for a moment before admitting his feelings to his siblings. They’d always been there for each other and if there was anyone who would not make fun of him for this, it was them.
“Of not being enough. Of being too mundane. Of losing him.”
Alec hadn’t expected both of his siblings to suddenly get up and hug him, but he appreciated it nonetheless. He hugged them back tightly, the tension draining out of his body a little bit as they returned to their seats.
“Alec,” Isabelle started, and Alec really wasn’t sure if he wanted to hear what she was going to say. “This thing with Magnus has been going on for a while. If he wasn’t serious he’d have left by now.”
Alec just nodded. Realistically, he knew that, but that didn’t stop him from thinking that Magnus could do so much better than someone like him.
“You should tell him you love him,” Jace said, making Alec’s head whip around so fast it was a wonder he didn’t break his neck.
“What?”
“Dude, you are so in love with him it’s frankly nauseating.”
Alec just blinked at him. Was he in love with Magnus? Sure, he liked spending time with him. Whenever he saw the man or received a message or a call he couldn’t stop smiling. Being around Magnus made him feel safe and his heartbeat would pick up when he saw him smile. He’d imagine a future with him a few times and what it would be like to grow old together. Just the thought of losing Magnus was enough to bring tears to his eyes and tightness to his chest. Alec froze, his eyes widening slightly.
He was in love with Magnus.
Isabelle chuckled next to him and she pressed a soft kiss to his cheek. “We’ll let you think about that,” she said quietly.
Just as she and Jace were about to leave, Alec turned to them.
“How did you know?” Alec asked, eyes locked onto Jace.
Jace smiled at him and it was in these moments that he was glad to have Jace as his brother. “It’s so obvious in the way you look at him. And yes, it is that obvious all the way from your kitchen window. And, Alec, he looks at you the same way.”
Alec nodded as if on instinct, turning back to his coffee to think.
***
On their next date, Alec was a nervous mess. Jace’s comment had lingered in his head for days and he wasn’t sure if he was ready to deal with it. Though, the moment he saw Magnus waiting for him with his bike all the anxiety melted away.
“Hey,” Magnus said, walking over to kiss Alec.
Alec hummed into the kiss, pulling his boyfriend a little closer. “Hi.”
Magnus handed him his helmet and they headed off to dinner.
Magnus, Alec had come to realise, had a knack for finding cute little restaurants for them to go to. They were always the perfect amount of classy and romantic without being over the top. The only issue Alec had during their date was that he kept getting distracted by how good Magnus looked. The man had rolled his shirt sleeves up again and Alec’s heart was doing flips in his chest. The man looked sexy as hell and now that Alec’s feelings had been pointed out to him, he wanted Magnus more than before. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with him and get to see him dressed in the same way all the time. Magnus seemed to have caught on to Alec’s turmoil as he would smirk and push the sleeves back up when they started to roll down.
They talked about their days and how things had been going with the new intern at Magnus’s firm. When it was time to leave, Alec slipped his hand easily into Magnus and the feeling that they fit together so perfectly made the tips of his ears turn red.
“Oh,” Alec stated, looking up at the sky as they walked outside.
Sometime during their dinner, it had started raining and it was coming down quite hard now. They stood under the canape for a moment, watching the rain fall before Magnus turned to Alec.
“Would you like to come back to my place? It’s closer so we won’t get too wet.”
“I’d like that.”
Magnus smiled and they ran towards his bike, laughing as they did. The journey to Magnus’s was quick but they were still soaked to the bone by the time they arrived.
Alec removed his shoes and jacket in the entranceway as he didn’t want to walk through Magnus’s home with wet shoes.
“I suggest you take a warm shower before you catch a cold,” Magnus suggested. “I can lend you some clothes and I’ll make some tea.”
Alec nodded, his teeth beginning to chatter with how cold he felt. Magnus led him through to the ensuite, before disappearing into the closet. He returned with some clothes and a fluffy towel. He handed it all to Alec before leaving him to shower while he made the tea.
Once Alec was done, Magnus handed him his mug before heading off to shower himself. Alec smiled into the hot tea, knowing that Magnus had waited for the shower to stop running before making it. He’d been given free rein over the loft and he wandered around admiring the space. It was an open area with doors branching off. Alec didn’t exactly plan to go snooping so he just settled onto the couch to enjoy his tea.
Alec was starting to doze off when he heard the sound of footsteps. He looked up and his jaw dropped at the sight. Magnus was walking around the couch wearing nothing but a pair of grey sweatpants. Alec’s eyes trailed down Magnus’s body, the image of the last time he’d seen those abs flashing in his mind. He swallowed around a lump in his throat as his eyes went back to Magnus’s.
“Like what you see?” Magnus teased.
Alec just nodded, not trusting his voice. Magnus smirked and flopped down onto the couch next to Alec. Magnus went to strike up a conversation but before he could, Alec pulled him into a kiss. Magnus shifted closer, creating a better angle so they could deepen the kiss. They kissed for a while, Alec’s hand sliding over Magnus’s chest, moaning at the feeling of his abs.
“Darling,” Magus panted, breaking the kiss to mouth at Alec’s neck. “If you want to take this further, we should move to the bedroom.”
“Okay.”
Magnus dragged Alec to his feet and into a kiss. Magnus guided him into the bedroom, kicking the door shut behind him. They collapsed onto the bed in a tangle of limbs as they kissed each other like this was their only chance. Alec was the one to break the kiss this time, mouthing down Magnus’ throat. He sucked a mark onto Magnus’s collarbone before making his way further down. Alec hummed happily as he traced his tongue and teeth along the ridges of Magnus’s abs. They were perfect and Alec wanted to mark them, wanted to leave his claim on the man he’d fallen in love with.
After he’d kissed and nipped at every muscle and every crevice of those wonderful abs, he made his way back up to Magnus’s lips. They kissed hungrily, Alec’s shirt being removed in the process. He moaned when Magnus flipped them, looking down at Alec like he wanted to devour him.
“How far do you want to go?” Magnus asked, his voice soft as he brushed hair out of Alec’s face.
“I want you,” Alec replied, grinding his hips against Magnus’s to prove his point.
“What do you want, Alexander?” Magnus repeated, stealing a quick kiss, “How much do you want?”
When the questions Magnus was asking registered, a blush formed on Alec’s face that ran down his throat. Magnus had the urge to trace it with his tongue.
“Oh,” Alec said, looking everywhere but at Magnus. “I … erm…”
“Look at me,” Magnus said softly, turning Alec’s head. He kissed him again in reassurance. “We don’t have to do anything if you’re not ready.”
Alec’s heart fluttered in his chest and he had to bite back the I love you that wanted to come out. He took a moment to gather himself before wrapping his arms around Magnus’s neck.
“I want to feel you inside me,” he whispered, the blush darkening.
Magnus groaned and claimed Alec’s lips in a passionate kiss. The tension and anticipation built as they kissed and stripped each other of their clothes. Magnus kissed down Alec’s body, leaving marks as he did, so he could take Alec into his mouth. Alec moaned, his head thrown back in pleasure. He tensed slightly when he felt Magnus’s lubed finger at his entrance. Alec had no idea when the man had grabbed the lube but the warmth of Magnus’s mouth was helping him relax against the intrusion.
Alec hadn’t enjoyed the sensation of his own fingers but Magnus’s were incredible. Magnus took his time to carefully open Alec up, only adding another finger when Alec was practically begging. Only once he was a squirming moaning mess did Magnus pull his fingers out and sit back, Alec’s cock falling from his mouth. He rolled on a condom, lubed up his cock and placed it at Alec’s entrance.
“Ready?”
“Please.”
Magnus kissed him as he pushed in, trying to distract Alec from the discomfort of the initial intrusion. By the time he bottomed out, Alec was panting. Alec clung to Magnus tightly as he adjusted. He’d never felt so full in his life.
“Move,” he whimpered, “please.”
Magnus started rocking his hips gently, gradually gaining speed and force. Alec rocked back to meet his thrust and he’d never felt this much pleasure before. He knew he was letting out embarrassing sounds but he couldn’t bring himself to care. Not when Magnus was looking at him like he was the most precious thing in the world and pounding into his prostate.
Much too soon in Alec’s opinion, his orgasm hit him and he came, Magnus’s name leaving his lips with a loud moan. It took a couple more thrusts for Magnus to join him, Alec’s name muffled where he’d buried his face in Alec’s neck.
They came down from their highs and Magnus rolled off of him, discarding the condom before pulling Alec into his arms. He kissed his head softly, and the two of them lay there in silence, enjoying the afterglow. Alec tilted his head up to look at Magnus just as the man did the same thing. They stared at each other for a moment before their lips met in a soft sweet kiss. They continued to trade kisses until they became a bit chilly from the cooling sweat. Magnus dragged a happily giggling Alec into the shower to clean off, gently washing each other. Magnus handed him a pair of sweats before he quickly changed the sheets. As soon as he was done the pair curled up together, Alec’s head resting on Magnus’ chest.
“I love you, Alexander,” Magnus whispered.
Alec looked up at him, lifting himself up so he could look Magnus in the eye. The amount of love shining in them took his breath away. He leaned down to kiss him again before pulling back with a grin.
“I love you, Magnus.”
Magnus beamed and pulled Alec down into a deep passionate kiss. When they broke apart, their faces radiated just how happy and in love they were. Alec pressed a soft kiss to Magnus’s lips before settling back down.
“Good night, Alexander,” Magnus said, kissing his head and tightening his hold on Alec, pulling him even closer to him.
“Good night, Magnus,” Alec replied, pressing a kiss over Magnus’s heart.
Alec fell asleep with a smile on his face, safe and sound wrapped in the arms of the man he loved.

aisha and alec would be very funny and passive aggressive and annoying if they ever got into a genuine tiff with each other. like one of them would say smth passive aggressive and sarcastic under their breath and the other one would be like What?. and the first one would be like "nothing." and the other one would give them a Look. and the first one would pretend they weren't being given a Look for 20 seconds and then go "What?" and then the one giving a look would go "nothing." terminal levels of cunt emanating off them. aisha would suggest something during Villain Planning Time and alec would be like [enough sarcasm to make a moderately sensitive person die of heart failure on the spot] That's A Greaaat Idea. and aisha would be like What. and he would be like. Nothing. I Said It Was A Good Idea. and she would be like Okay. Well [malicious] you're right. So that's what we'll do. meanwhile brian is standing there desperately trying to figure out how to intervene without both of them briefly entering a truce for the sole purpose of tearing his head off. aisha would constantly trip alec or step on the back of his shoes while they're walking and then be like Oops. and then they would have 45 seconds of unbroken silent passive aggressive eye contact until lisa found an excuse to send one of them elsewhere. it'd be great. and then the next day they would show up glued at the hips acting like everything is fine again. this was going to be a post about how they communicate but now i'm imagining them being shitheads to each other instead
the rule of worm fanfiction is everyone severely underestimates how well aisha and alec communicate and severely overestimates how well literally all of the other undersiders communicate. but also even when they do understand that aisha and alec communicate well they misunderstand the form it takes

Magnus finds himself back in the room of ice and secrets so priceless that sometimes he shudders to learn one. Magnus provided breakfast, marveling at Alexander’s delight at being introduced to chocolate and insisting on sharing his tea because while Alexander’s own brews were interesting and good, there were things that couldn’t be found in Alicante.
Like a nice delicate oolong or the delightful burn of ginseng, which Alexander seems to have immediately taken too.
He stole Magnus’ cup when his own ran empty and then he’d fallen to the ground and pouted until Magnus procured another cup. Like an overgrown cat taking advantage of its big, sad eyes to lure its person into a trap.
Alexander didn’t join him, which while Magnus resents a little, is also helpful because it’s much easier to concentrate on books when you’re not distracted by six-feet of gorgeous and human-shaped dragon.
It also gives Magnus time to browse the books and see if there is anything helpful concerning Alexander’s species.
There is a decided lack of what he seeks, for both Alexander and Lilith and Magnus trudges out of the room, grumpy from a lack of Alexander and progress
A roar tears him from his thoughts and Magnus runs to the nearest balcony, the wards keeping it shielded from the snow and weather and he throws the doors open and walks out.
The storm is gone, he realizes numbly.
The storm that he fought for days upon end is nowhere to be seen, even though Magnus’ magic warned it would continue for weeks upon months.
Magnus barely has time to register this before the roar sounds again and he watches, awestruck as a giant, black dragon crests the mountains, rising higher and higher until what he can only assume is Alexander is no more than a speck.
Magnus watches the sky, heart in his mouth as he wonders, foolishly, if he’s been abandoned and then Alexander is not flying, but falling. A controlled dive no doubt, but it makes Magnus’ magic itch to reach out and create a safety net for his giant form.
At the last possible moment, he snaps his wings out and Magnus watches with shock as what he thought was a valley of snow when he walks around it, explodes into ice and water that crystallises and shatters upon contact with the air.
It was a lake.
A frozen lake whose thickly layered surface tore from the mere pressure of Alexander using his wings.
His dragon glides towards him and Magnus knows the exact moment he’s noticed, because Alexander begins to dance in the sky. It’s a glorious sight and the sun dapples across his scales leaving it to dance with the colours of a prism awash over the black.
“Magnificent.” Magnus murmurs and he wishes he were closer, that he could see and touch and feel Alexander in this form and then his dragon is landing above him and Magnus reaches out for his signature and, uncaring of how this will turn out, forms a portal taking him to Alec.
The roof is wide and flat and doesn’t shiver even with the bulk of Alexander’s draconic form nestled on it. Magnus runs because he doesn’t want to wait, can’t bear it if Alexander transforms back before Magnus gets to appreciate it.
“Oh, aren’t you lovely like this—” He whispers, because it’s true and Alexander gives a pleased rumble and nudges him, nose pressing against the whole of Magnus’ body in greeting.
“Sweet boy,” Magnus croons and he pets Alexander’s nose and runs a hand over scales half the size of his palm and getting bigger as they climb Alexander’s form. “So beautiful, incredible,” because Magnus doesn’t know what to say, doesn’t know how to woo or compliment someone whose very existence is such a marvel.
Whatever he does seems to work because Alexander is purring, his entire body vibrating with delight, as though Magnus has stroked a livewire inside of him just with his rambling words.
“Come back to me?” Magnus asks, because as much as he wants to explore Alexander like this, he wants the one that fits into his arms more, the Alexander that he can keep close and claim with kisses.
Though, he does lean forward and press a soft little kiss to the great expanse of Alexander’s muzzle and then he has an armful of frigid, naked and delighted Alexander.
"What were you doing?" He asks, because he's curious if it was something like checking the territory, or figuring out how Magnus got in or even hunting.
“I drove the storm off." Alexander says proudly, like he’s making any sense and Magnus realizes that perhaps, he is.
“Did you?” Magnus hums, like he’s proud but unsurprised and hides how actually surprised he is. "Tell me about as we go inside, darling?”

Izzy helped me limp into the Institute, my body feeling run down and exhausted already. She laid me down on a bed and it took me a moment to register that it was my own bed. I was aching all over, but I tried to keep a brave face. At least, I thought I was keeping a brave face. For all I knew I was sobbing like a baby.
“I’ll get my stele,” she told me. “Just...just stay awake, okay?”
I tried to respond but it came out as a pained moan instead. Izzy quickly raced from my room to her own. I could hear her in the distance furiously looking for here stele. I tried to stay awake but my eyes were starting to grow heavy and my head was lulling back against the pillow under me. The thought of drifting off into unconsciousness felt like the best idea I had ever had in that moment.
I heard someone at the door and thought it was Izzy coming back. When I looked up, I saw it was Jace standing in my doorway. His face was pale and he was staring at me in horror. I could only imagine how awful I looked.
“(Y/N),” he breathed. He quickly raced to my side and pulled his stele out. “What the hell happened to you?”
“She had a run in with a demon while she was alone,” Izzy responded, appearing at Jace’s side. “I got there just in time. Can you help me draw healing ruins? She’s going to need a few.”
“I’m way ahead of you.”
The slight burn of Jace’s stele touching my arm caused me to let out a yelp of pain. He looked at me with sympathy as he continued to draw the healing Rune. Izzy moved to my other side and started drawing a Rune there too. It hurt as they were drawing them, but I felt a numbness wash over my body as the Rune started to take effect.
Jace started to stroke my hair after drawing another ruin on me. He looked down at me, his face full of concern. “Rest while the ruins do their work, (Y/N).”
Getting Jace’s permission to finally rest felt like a blessing, and within seconds I was passed out.
~~~~~~
I wasn’t sure how long I was out. When I woke up again, my head still felt heavy and my vision was spinning a little. I tried to lift my head to look around, but it felt like someone had poured nails into my head and shaken it. I groaned and laid back down again, raising my hand to put it on my forehead. I realized then that the pain had completely left my body, except for the headache I had, and I felt good as new again.
“How long have I been out?” I asked, turning my head to see who had stayed with me while I was unconscious. I knew either Jace or Izzy had. They weren’t going to leave me when I was in such rough condition.
Through the slight darkness of my room, I could make out the figure sitting down as Jace. I was slightly shocked to see that Jace was the one who had stayed. Despite his caring and concerned nature when Izzy had first brought me home, the two of us weren’t exactly close. We didn’t hate each other or anything, but we were constantly fighting and he irritated the hell out of me. I didn’t think his kindness would extend to staying with me while I was unconscious.
“A few hours,” he responded. “It’s 2am now, you got back around 8 or 9pm I think.”
I groaned. “I definitely feel like I’ve been out for five or six hours.”
“What were you thinking?” Jace questioned, rising from his seat. “Facing a demon alone? You were lucky that Izzy had known where you were or else you definitely wouldn’t have been feeling as good as you do now.”
“Thanks for that, Captain Obvious,” I muttered. “For your information, I didn’t go out with the intentions of facing a demon alone. I was just out and I got cornered by a demon that knew I was a Shadowhunter. I wasn’t expecting it and it got the jump on me.”
“You shouldn’t have gone out on your own at all. You know the dangers of being caught are high, especially when you can be spotted at any time by a demon.”
I braced myself as I sat up, the pounding feeling in my head intensifying for just a moment, before slowly numbing again.
“I can’t stay cooped up here forever, Jace,” I retorted. “I’m more than capable of taking care of myself.”
“Obviously you’re not or else you wouldn’t have been on death’s doorstep when you got back here.”
“I was not on death’s doorstep. Izzy found me in time, but even if she hadn’t I would’ve been fine.”
“You didn’t look fine.”
I groaned and rolled my eyes. “Listen Jace, I appreciate this...concern you have for me, but I’m fine. I don’t need this lecture, I don’t need anyone’s help, especially not yours. You’ve made it very clear that you don’t actually like me all that much, so you don’t need to continue this caring act, or the lecture. I’m fine and I can take care of myself.”
The tension hung in the air. I expected Jace to walk away and to finally leave me alone. You can imagine my shock when he approached me suddenly, putting one hand behind my head and pulling me in for a kiss.
I was shocked. I didn’t know how to respond to it. I thought for a second that Jace had gone insane, that maybe some Downworlder had scrambled his brain or something. There was no way in Hell that Jace Herondale would willingly kiss me. I was just a torn in his side, and he was one in mine.
But something just felt right about the kiss. His rough hands were gentle as one cupped the back of my neck while the other was wrapped around my waist. He pulled me forward to the edge of the bed, nudging my legs open so he could stand between them. My hands were gripping the t-shirt he was wearing, taking in every last bit of him that I could.
I felt myself laying back on my bed against, Jace’s hand still under my head. He moved with me, hovering over me as our lips moved perfectly in sync with one another. His other hand slipped under my shirt, softly trailing up my side until he reached my bra. We broke away from the kiss just long enough for Jace to pull my shirt over my head and unhook my bra in one swift motion.
He looked down at me, his beautiful different colored eyes soft but full of lust. He gently ran his fingers over my cheek before pressing his lips against mine once more, then moving to start kissing cheek, my jaw, my neck. His lips hovered a moment over the fresh Runes that he and Izzy had drawn on my skin. When he pressed a kiss against them, it almost felt like he was soothing the slight burn that was still there. He continued to gently brush his lips over the white scars left behind from other Runes that had been drawn on my skin for years.
My head fell back against the pillow underneath me as Jace’s lips continued to kiss down my chest and stomach, stopping just above the hem of my jeans. He looked up at me, waiting for permission. When I nodded, he made quick work of pulling my jeans and panties off at one time. He pressed another light kiss just above m aching core before diving in with his tongue.
I gasped at the pleasurable feeling. Of course, being a Shadowhunter doesn’t mean you never have sex. Quite the opposite, really. All four of us in the Institution were no strangers to sex. But this...this was a feeling of pleasure beyond what I had ever experienced before. I blamed the fact that I had only ever had sex with Mundane men before now.
I ran a hand through Jace’s hair and grabbed hold of it. The action caused him to moan against me, the vibrations running through my body.
He lifted his head for air, replacing his tongue with his fingers as he lightly played with my clit.
“I can’t describe how long I’ve been waiting for this,” he said, placing gentle kisses against my stomach again.
“You have a weird way of sh - oh - owing it,” I said, trying to tease him through the pleasure he was giving me.
He smiled in response and moved his hand away. I whimpered from the lack of contact, an action I wasn’t too proud of afterwards but in the moment I could care less.
Jace kissed my lips again, the taste of my arousal on his lips and tongue. It turned me on even more and I just wanted to have him inside of me.
I pushed him down onto the bed and climbed onto his lap, straddling him. He looked impressed by my action. I ran my hands down his still clothed chest, reaching the bottom of his shirt.
“I hardly think it’s far that you’re still dressed while I’m completely naked,” I said.
“Well, we can fix that,” he responded.
I made quick work of taking his clothes off, discarding them somewhere on the floor with my own. When I pulled his boxers down, I audibly gasped at his length. He chuckled at my reaction. “Surprised?”
“Surprised that my fantasies were true,” I responded.
Jace raised an eyebrow at me. “You’ve fantasized about me?”
I took him in my hand and started to slowly stroke him. A breathy gasp escaped from his mouth as he fell completely helpless to my touch.
“It’s hard not to sometimes,” I admitted. “When you’re walking around here in your tight clothes, or with no shirt on. You’re so confident and cocky, it’s hard not to imagine what you’d be like in bed.”
“You finally have the real me here,” he said. “Why not make those fantasies a reality?”
He didn’t have to asked twice.
I spit onto the head of his dick, using my hand to spread it all over him before lining him up with my entrance. The moment his tip slipped inside of me, we both moaned in pleasure and relief. So much built up tension between us, sexual and otherwise, finally being released.
I slowly sat myself down on him, taking in every inch. His hands found their way to my hips, his fingers digging in so harshly that I was sure I’d have bruises there. Once I had adjusted to his size, he started rocking my hips against him, the friction starting to build between us.
I placed my hands on his chest, trying to steady myself as I took over rocking my hips. He looked into my eyes, his mouth partially open as moans and whimpers escaped from his lips. Even with these small movements he was hitting a spot inside of me that I had never felt before. I was almost sure I’d orgasm within seconds.
Jace sat up then, wrapping one arm around my waist while planting the other one on the bed behind him. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders, holding on tightly as he began to thrust up into me. The motions were rougher and faster, hitting that spot inside of me with a force I hadn’t felt before. I buried my head in Jace’s shoulder, trying to muffle my moans as I remembered there were two other people living in the Institution.
“Does that feel good?” he asked.
“Fuck Jace,” I moaned. “That feels so fucking good. I might...I might...”
“What are you gonna do, princess?”
Fuck! And a pet name, too? I was putty in his hands.
I couldn’t even finish my sentence. My climax built up quick and hit me before I was even ready for it. I moaned Jace’s name against his shoulder as I felt myself clenching around him, a warm sensation running through my body.
“Fuck,” he breathed, his thrusts becoming sloppier. “I’m gonna cum.”
“Cum in me,” I whispered. “Please, Jace.”
He threw his head back and groaned as I felt him finish inside of me. I gasped at the feeling, which was almost enough to make me orgasm again.
Jace fell backwards onto the bed, taking me with him. I giggled as I settled against his chest, still wrapped around his softening member. I could stay like that for hours if Jace wanted to.
“Maybe I should get attacked by demons more often,” I mumbled to myself.
Jace tensed under me. “I would much rather if you didn’t.”
I moved my head to look up at him, raising an eyebrow. “Relax, I was only joking. I meant what I said earlier, Jace, I can handle demons on my own.”
He relaxed again, starting to trace his fingers up and down my back. “I know you can. I shouldn’t have overreacted earlier. I’m sorry.”
Normally I’d make some quip about him apologizing, but some things were starting to add up in my head. “You were always hounding me and shit because you were worried for me.”
It wasn’t a question, but Jace responded anyways. “Yeah. I...I just never wanted you to get hurt.”
“Jace, I’m a Shadowhunter just like you. I’ve faced numerous Downworlders before, both by myself and with you guys. I can take care of myself, you don’t have to worry about me.”
“I’m well aware of that. I’ve always been impressed with your fighting skills. It’s just...I care for you in a way that I’ve never cared for someone before. I always worry when you’re out with Izzy or Alec or anyone who isn’t me because I’m afraid of the day that...maybe you don’t come back. When I saw you earlier today...I was so terrified that I was actually going to lose you.”
I propped myself up a bit to take Jace’s face in my hands. “I appreciate how much you care, but you have to have faith in me, Jace. This is the first time I’ve seriously been injured while fighting a Downworlder, and I promise you it’ll be the last time too.”
Jace nodded. I smiled a little and leaned down to kiss him again. I finally decided to untangle myself from him, although I felt empty without him inside of me. I laid down next to him, feeling sleepy from our earlier activities.
My eyes were starting to close when Jace said, “Hey (Y/N).”
“Yeah?”
“Maybe we should close the door next time we decide to have sex.”
My eyes popped open to see that my bedroom door was wide open. I hadn’t noticed that earlier, what with being...“preoccupied” and all. I groaned and buried my face in Jace’s chest as he laughed.
