Emoteez is back and I’m gonna go broke fr.
Starting with HJ, he nails this concept the most. This is so Hongjoong I love everything about this. The beanie to add onto his collection of hats, the tattoo peaking out, the mischievous smirk biting the pick. 10/10 one of my fav HJ looks <3
Tumblr media
Seonghwa’s makeup artist better have gotten a raise. It’s just gender, Seonghwa has blessed and angered us again with his never ending supply of gender. THE NECKLACE IM FERAL
Tumblr media
Yunho found out the fandom having a hand kink and decided to make it everyone’s problem. He’s so annoying the audacity to have them tatted too fuck put them away for the love of God.
Tumblr media
Yeosang always looks unreal but they were really in their bag for adding the orange blush and freckles. It goes so good with his hair, I keep staring at it. 2nd best look after Hongjoong I fear he absolutely ate.
Tumblr media
San went with a more simpler look, that sweater looks mad comfy. I keep gravitating towards the belt.
Tumblr media
Mingi’s eyes both scare and fascinate me it’s a very odd feeling. A rock concept also fits Mingi a lot, I think back to his Tunnel MV.
Tumblr media
Wooyoung’s lips are seducing me. I love this look so much. Also drummer Woo just makes sense.
Tumblr media
Jongho shocked me ngl. I saw this and barked out loud holy shit.

total guitar #160 march 2007 [joe's video]
transcript below cut:
You voted Dance, Dance in at No 57 in TG’s 100 Greatest Riffs, so we managed to collar the dual guitar talents of Fall Out Boy’s Joe Trohman and Patrick Stump to ask them how they write riffs, who they think is the ultimate riff-writing machine and what they deem to be the top five greatest riffs ever written…
Words: Claire Davies, Images: Joby Sessions
When you look at Fall Out Boy or listen to any one of their albums, it’s easy to dismiss them as pop punk scamps who like to mess around on the guitar but don’t take it that seriously. In some respects you’d be right, but singer/guitarist Patrick Stump and his talented co-guitarist Joe Trohman know quite a bit about writing insanely catchy riffs and playing guitar.
Patrick, for instance, doesn’t respect players who wail unnecessarily over a song. “I like restraint in guitarists,” he says. “It’s easy to go overboard and try to be Eddie Van Halen. But here’s the thing: you’re not.” Joe, on the other hand, is completely obsessed with vintage guitars. “I was really into vintage Gibsons, but I just used to break them all the time and it turned out to be kind of expensive. Now I play Washburns ‘cos they have that same wide-neck feel and pickups as some of those 70s Les Pauls.”
One thing they’re both passionate about, however, is writing great riffs and how you - by expanding your musical horizons - can write one with as much groove as Pantera’s Walk…
So guys, why did you choose guitar and when did you start playing?
Joe Trohman: “I started playing guitar because of Metallica. I used to listen to them loads and when my grandma got me the Live Shit: Binge And Purge video I couldn’t stop watching it. I used to play viola and trombone in my school band, but watching bands like Metallica and Smashing Pumpkins made me wanna play guitar. From the moment I got a cheap $50 guitar, I played it all the time.”
Patrick Stump: “I chose drums to begin with, but my dad was a folk singer in the 70s so he always had a guitar lying around. I’d mess around and write songs on it, but I never fancied myself as much of a player. When the band started I ended up singing, even though I was supposed to be a drummer. Then one of our guitarists quit, I had to fill in and it went from there.”
When you were starting out, which guitarists influenced you?
Joe: “Kirk Hammett and Dimebag had a huge impact on me, as did Billy Corgan. I was into a lot of lead players, I guess, but as I got older I realised how important it was to play rhythm as well. People don’t realise how good a rhythm player James Hetfield is. I also love Johnny Marr, who has probably been my biggest influence so far.”
Patrick: “I’m not a huge Stones fan, but I appreciate Keith Richards’ playing ‘cos it’s all about his riffs. Outside of that, my favourite shit as a guitar player is funk; everyone from James Brown to Prince. I also love jazz player Joe Pass, who is one of the only people good enough to noodle on guitar, and Jesse Johnson who was in a band called The Time from the Prince movie Purple Rain. My favourite solo of his is just one note, but the crazy shit he does with that one note is unreal.”
Moving on to riff-writing, how would you describe a guitar riff?
Joe: “It’s a cool guitar part that catches you instantly. It’s something you can play over and over without it losing its edge.”
Patrick: “Yeah, it’s four bars that are simple and that grab you immediately, like the riff from Janet Jackson’s Black Cat. I think a good riff comes down to a good rhythm section. When you look at a guy like Dimebag, he always got right in there with the bass and drums. Pantera were built on a groove as strong and simple as any R&B groove.”
Joe: “Yeah, Walk has to be one of the simplest riffs ever but it grooves, and that’s what matters: what you do with the riff and how much it grooves.”
So how do you come up with riffs, such as the one on Dance, Dance?
Patrick: “We just fuck around until we come up with something. You’ll come up with a gazillion riffs when trying stuff out, but every so often something will jump in front of you. Once you’ve got your four bars, stuff will start happening. With Dance, Dance I was just sitting in the van and we were all talking about The Cure, and I had this idea of a Cure bass line that they never wrote, which ended up being the riff in Dance Dance.”
What’s the best riff you’ve written?
Patrick: “I really like the riff on Of All The Gin Joints. But The Take Over, The Breaks Over from our new record [Infinity On High] is easily one of our best riffs. I wrote it after reading something Bowie said: that he was sitting around one day and decided that he really wanted to write a riff like Keith Richards did. So he wrote Rebel Rebel. After reading that I thought, ‘Fuck! I wanna do that!’”
What, in your opinion, makes a kick-ass riff?
Joe: “A great riff comes from being part of the rhythm and acknowledging that you’re not gonna produce something totally original. You should listen to loads of different music and put your own spin on it. Like on our last album we wrote a riff that was like Panama by Van Halen. We’ve obviously taken influence from them on that song, but we’re not ripping them off wholesale. Instead it’s like paying homage to them.”
Patrick: “When you’re writing a riff you’re part of the rhythm section and you keep up the tempo and rhythm as if you were the drummer. You have stabs as though you were the snare drum and you’re hitting low notes as though you’re the bass drum, but you’re also controlling the melody. At the end of the day, a riff is something that you can hum and it’s a rhythm you can play on drums. If you have both those qualities in your riff then you’re onto something good.”
What do you think are the Top Five greatest riffs ever written?
Joe: “I love the start of This Charming Man by The Smiths, and Black In Black by AC/DC. Walk by Pantera is probably one of the best riffs ever, same as Battery by Metallica, but if you can’t do triplets and haven’t got tons of stamina then it’s hard to play. I also love South Of Heaven by Slayer just ‘cos it’s so evil sounding.”
Patrick: “Satisfaction by The Stones is the be-all and end-all of riffs. I’d also go for Rebel Rebel by David Bowie, Janet Jackson’s Black Cat, the second section of Bohemian Rhapsody and Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath. That one riff alone changed metal as we know it. I also wanna throw in Owner Of A Lonely Heart by Yes ‘cos it’s a great example of having really talented guitarists who still keep it simple.”
Who do you think is the ultimate riff-writing machine?
Joe: “I’d go with Randy Rhoads, just ‘cos I love that riff in Crazy Train. That guy was a genius.”
Patrick: “Angus and Malcolm Young have written so many phenomenal riffs that you can’t do any better than those guys. But I come from an R&B background so I wanna say Prince, just ‘cos Let’s Go Crazy is so awesome. And I also wanna know who wrote the riff to Michael Jackson’s Beat It [TG mentions it was session musician and Toto guitarist Steve Lukather]. Was it Lukather? Yeah, of course it was: he played the riff and Eddie Van Halen played the solo. I wonder why Lukather doesn’t get more recognition? Now you’ve mentioned Lukather, I wanna change one of my Top Five riffs to Toto’s Hold The Line, ‘cos that’s one of my favourite riffs ever!”
How did you approach the guitars on your new album, Infinity On High?
Patrick: “We’re both playing a lot more rhythm on this record, but if there is lead then it’s in much more of a BB King way where there’s a call and response.”
Joe: “My favourite thing about the guitars on our new songs is that I can ad-lib when we’re playing live. I know scales well enough and understand the fretboard well enough to do that. I could never tell you what key something is in, but in my head I know what it is. The cool thing about being in this band is that Patrick and I play guitar really well together, and I’ve learned a lot from watching Patrick and playing guitar with him.”
So can we expect a lot of guitar interplay from you on this album?
Joe: “Patrick also plays piano on this album, so he’s not always on guitar, but we split up a lot of the guitar playing. There’s a solo on The Take Over, The Breaks Over that we split in half when playing live, even though on the record it was done by Chad from New Found Glory and Ryan from Panic! At The Disco. We thought it was cooler to have guest guitarists than guest vocalists. So yeah, we split a lot of the guitar stuff up and switched between rhythm and lead. The weird thing is that I’m always pegged as the lead guitarist of the band, but we always switch back and forth.”
Patrick: “I think in general, I play a lot of the single-note leads and Joe plays a lot of the octave and chord leads.”
Which tracks on the new album best exemplify you guys as guitarists?
Patrick: “The end solo of Don’t You Know Who I Think I Am? Is how I love to solo. It’s real bluesy, which is what I’m about as a player. I’d also say the solo on You’re Crashing But You’re No Wave.”
Joe: “Yeah, that one had a lot of Johnny Marr filler guitar in there, and also Don’t You Know Who I Think I Am? It's filler guitar that doesn’t really jump out at you, but it’s atmospheric and it changes the vibe without you really knowing it.”
Finally, how proud are you as guitarists of your new album?
Patrick: “This is my favourite record because it’s restrained and funny. It’s basic rhythm playing, which is my favourite kind of guitar playing. I’m much happier playing a strong riff 100 times over than playing a kick-ass solo once. We do have kick-ass solos, but the way we write doesn’t always leave that much room for them.”
Joe: “I learned from playing on this album that I don’t need to play solos all the time. I’m proud of the record and proud of the cool riffs and songs that we’ve written together.”
Patrick: “I’m less impressed when someone shows off, and on this record we don’t show off a lot so obviously you should be impressed… I’m kidding!”

THE BUG!! THE LOCUST HIMSELF
Tumblr media
This is an oc-ified version of the third band member in SF (named Locust) that me and many others believed would have been a third member of SF had the show actually been picked up!
I went pretty loose with this, given he only appears for like 10 seconds and says 2 sentences.
Under is a description:
Lucas Bukowski - The Shred Force drummer and sound guy. A chill, quiet fella who's just trying to enjoy his funny little interest. Actively avoids conflict because he doesn't want to cause trouble. Sometimes the louder members of his team annoy him, but he just bears with it. He really appreciates the company. Oldest out of the gang, he feels the need to be the “responsible and sensible one”. People usually overlook him and find him weird for his niche interests, but he has grown used to it. He doesn't care tho, he's just vibing. He's used to the feeling of not belonging…
Most rational out of the bunch and tends to reel them in when they're getting too much, but not above having just as much fun with them. Tends to get overwhelmed a lot, but he's not a coward. He'll stand his ground, albeit stuttering and bumbling his way through it. The only one with any classical music training, knows a fair amount of instruments actually. He's also very interested in the technical side of music
He doesn't want his admiration for Shred Force to get in the way of being a hero. He's been a fan for so long, it feels almost unreal to fight alongside them. And it turns out they're actually his friends too? That totally rules. Takes the whole hero thing most seriously, almost to a comical degree. People actually think he's cool now, he's got a reputation to uphold! He's been coddled all his life and it feels refreshing to hang out with his friends. A mama’s boy. She can be overprotective and overbearing at times but she means well.
He met Hank and Ronnie through an ad (Yes those two idiots actually put an ad looking for a drummer). He was the only one who applied

Hello! I have finally stopped crying about Friday night long enough to come tell you guys about it! Also kind of a face reveal I guess? I wasn't planning on posting pictures of myself ever on Tumblr but, um, I met some of Powerwolf, so I'm telling literally everyone who will listen about it. If you'd like to read all about the most amazing night of my life it's below the cut cause my god am I going to ramble and there's going to be a lot of pictures. Posting Update coming later now that I can finally get back to work ❤️
*cracks knuckles* now, I had to take the full day yesterday to literally sit on my floor with my friends to recount that night in as much detail as possible. Every thing I tell you has been fact checked and reviewed by 3 other people lol. I literally can't even believe the night I had, I still think I'm dreaming tbh.
So, as you may or may not know, Powerwolf is literally my favorite band ever. I missed their first US tour so I was determined to get my ass to this show and have the greatest time, also I'm not going to turn down a chance to see Falk Maria Schlegel in person, it ain't gunna happen chief. I got tickets for my friends and I, we made a whole day of it, we got our nails done and met up the morning of and had breakfast and did face masks and all got ready together, it was wonderful, I'm so glad we made the decision to do that because of my god my NERVES that morning. We ended up getting to the venue around 3, which meant we had to stand in line for 4 hours but it was definitely worth the sacrifice. We were about 10 people from the front by the time we lined up. When we got there, none other than Roel VanHelden was hanging out around their tour bus, taking pictures and just talking with a small group of people. He was so nice when we went down to meet him, my friends and I were all dressed up for the occasion and he looked at us and went "wow, you all look incredible!" I think my soul left my body. I told him he was my favorite drummer ever and I'm so excited to finally be able to see him live and he looked so genuinely flattered. I got a picture with him that's at the bottom.
A little while later I look down the sidewalk and happen to notice Charles doing the same thing. He was also super sweet and super funny. I, for some reason, was so much more nervous meeting him than I was meeting Roel so I just kind of ran up said hi took my picture said thank you and ran away, but he was very sweet when he was talking with my friends. ALSO HES SO DAMN HANDSOME WITH HIS GLASSES ON I AM SUCH A CHARLES GIRL AFTER FRIDAY NOW BUT WELL GET MORE INTO WHY LATER!!! Sorry lost my cool, picture with him is also below
We get inside, we get all the way up to the left side of the stage at the barrier, I'm directly in front of Falk and Matthew the entire concert. Unleash The Archers was incredible, I unfortunately only know their song Soulbound, but they're amazing if you're into women fronted power metal bands, I highly recommend them. The entirety of the concert itself was incredible, everyone is so talented and it was so amazing, just for the music I would go back again and again.
But, my god, do those men LOVE interacting with the crowd. I'm gunna go member by member, we made a bullet list lol. We ended up getting notices by every single member of Powerwolf multiple times, like I seriously still can't believe it, it doesn't feel real, but it happened and I have 3 other people telling me it happened so I guess I have to trust them lol.
Roel we unfortunately didn't get to see much obviously because he's at his kit, but after the show was over he came over and gave my friend a drum cover that was signed by the entire band, we have agreed that one day a month I come over we pull it out (until it gets framed), smoke a bowl, and just look at it for a little while together because that's how we're going to share joint custody of it lol. Seeing him play live was also just unreal.
Attila carries such a presence on stage it's actually fucking insane. How easily that man can command an entire room is scary. I don't know if I have the video, I might have to get it from someone else still. But there was one point we were singing along with Attila and he came over and sang directly to my friend and I and reached out for us and we both screamed. He acknowledged us a couple other times throughout the show.
We were on the opposite side of the stage from Charles but him and Matthew switch sides pretty much during every song so he was over pretty frequently. The first time he came over he immediately recognized my little group, he pointed right at me and smiled, I personally think he noticed how I loosened up a lot since almost passing out earlier lol. But he would be constantly coming over and singing along with us, there was also one point I noticed he accidentally bumped into Attila and he just looked at him and blew him a kiss and it was the funniest thing I've ever seen. CHARLES ALSO THREW ME ONE OF HIS ARM BANDS!!!! When he came over after final bows, he threw a couple pics, I missed literally all of them because I have zero depth perception and despite the fact I was wearing 5" platforms I was still stupidly short lol, he noticed proceeds to pull off one of the ones he had on, came right to the edge of the stage and tossed it to me and he got so smiley when I screamed back thank you, he has such a nice smile omfg it's not fair. But he was incredible.
We were right in front of Matthew, we definitely spent the most time with him, he was also in love with us. They played Sinners of The Seven Seas, which is a personal favorite song of mine, so I was absolutely losing my shit, screaming every word, and after they finished each song he would acknowledge the whole crowd and give thumbs up and all that, and then he looks at me, I shit you not my knees almost have out from just now direct this eye contact was the first time, he goes "wow" and gives me a thumbs up and a really impressed look, so of course I got all flustered which made him laugh. He would acknowledge me after pretty much every song, doing kind of the same thing, motioning to the whole crowd and then motioning directly to me, it became a joke, we would both laugh whenever he did it. At one point I made a heart at him and he got the brightest smile and also seemed so genuinely flattered, they all did, every one of them just seemed so touched and happy that all of us loved them so much it was super sweet. But, anyways, back to Matthew. He sang along with us a lot too and was just genuinely so fun to watch, he's such a talented guitarist, I got to see him play the most. He also threw me a guitar pick, I gave it to one of my other friends that came since she didn't catch anything.
Falk Maria Schlegel... I was so insane about this man BEFORE this concert... I am simply unwell about him now. This, to me, is by far the most unbelievable part of my night because I'm literally in love with him. He's kind of similar to Roel where it's hard to get his attention cause he's also mostly up on the back stage, so he didn't really start to come down to the stage until near the end of the show anyways. But he came down at one point and that man held eye contact with me for a good 30 seconds while Attila was making his speech, I thought my heart stopped, how are his eyes even prettier in person? He's just so fun and so cute, I love watching him interact with the crowd. He came over to my side of the stage after the first encore, Attila was giving a speech about how we're all one big heavy metal family and it was very nice. I had to go over this with my friends about 9 times, I still think they're lying to me and I hallucinated the whole thing. Falk motions to the whole crowd and says I love you, then turns looks directly at me, motions to me specifically and says I love you. I blacked out for about 30 seconds I think, my heart was restarted by the last song starting (I fucking love werewolves of Armenia) they were doing final bows and Falk came back over to my side of the stage, he looked at me so I blew him a kiss and made a heart and he went, "oh! Thank you!" Motioned to me and then held his hands over his chest and he looked so happy, they all looked so happy, I hope they come back soon I already miss them. I plan on being right back up in front next time, who knows, maybe they'll even remember me lol
We're also going to be in their city recap video, and Jen Dorn (Attila's wife) took a bunch of pictures and posted a video of us on her Instagram and we got to meet her too, she was also very sweet and very pretty!!
Okay have some pictures of the greatest night of my life, some of them aren't cropped right, that's my bad lol

“Are you actually blushing?” “No! Shut up.” for the Luke ship of your choice!
“Why are we here?”
Luke keeps scanning the bar, looking for a head of glossy black hair or a crooked smile. He shushes Alex.
“That's not—” Alex starts, only to sigh when Luke begins to drag him through the crowd of other twenty-somethings.
Reggie's wedged in the corner, playing on his phone. There's a guitar case under the table—different than the one he'd used last time, even at a glance.
Is there any instrument he can't play?
Alex nudges Luke. He jolts, then carefully doesn't look at Alex.
Luke clears his throat. “Hey—”
“Luke!” Reggie gestures wildly for them to sit down. “Are you playing?”
Luke returns Reggie's easy grin. He's still not looking at Alex. “Not tonight.”
Reggie’s smile morphs into a smirk.
“So you're here just for me?”
Luke's mouth works without sound as he grapples to get words out.
“That's—I also—where's Bobby?!”
Reggie laughs warmly, knocking his arm against Luke's. “He's at the bar.”
“I'm also here,” Alex says dryly before Luke can fumble to explain why he didn't see Bobby. “I'm Alex.”
Reggie turns to Alex excitedly.
“Oh, you're the drummer best friend!”
Alex huffs a laugh. He likes Reggie already; Luke can tell.
“That's me. And you? I assume Luke's trying to recruit you—”
“And Bobby!” Luke adds quickly. “I could've sworn we talked about this.”
Okay, so maybe Luke meant to talk to him about it. Them stopping here tonight was a little spur of the moment.
But it's the thought that counts, right?
Reggie introduces himself to Alex. Bobby returns before long, with a mixed drink for himself and a water for Reggie. Alex likes him too, and Luke smiles to himself as they talk about some sport thing that's happening.
“Think I could convince you to play?”
Luke startles. Reggie’s voice, his breath, is right in Luke's ear, and it sends a shockwave down his spine.
He swallows. “Um. Probably. Why?”
Reggie laughs quietly, low and warm.
“Because I want you, too. Won't you?”
Luke's brain is melting. It's—no one like Reggie has ever flirted with him so sincerely before. It's kind of unreal.
“What guitar ‘ve ya got?” he manages.
“An acoustic. Does that work for you?”
“Yeah,” he says dumbly. “For sure.”
Reggie hums. His lips graze Luke's ear.
“We're on soon then, sweetheart.”
He pulls away before Luke can reply.
“I'm grabbing more water, anyone else want anything?”
Luke's warm all over as he watches him leave.
Alex obscures his view, smiling smugly.
“Dude. Are you actually blushing?”
“No!” Luke hisses. “Shut up.”
Alex rolls his eyes. “Relax. Bobby's playing on his phone. It's not like he's blind to what's happening, anyway.”
“That's—”
“And,” Alex continues, “I'm just intrigued. You hardly ever blush.”
Luke shrugs, even though it's true.
Alex hums knowingly. “He must be good, huh?”
Luke splutters, “I don't—I wouldn't—”
“His playing, Luke.” Alex smirks. “Although for you, I guess it's one and the same—”
“Would you shut the fuck up?”
“Maybe I would,” Alex says snarkily, “if you'd bother to tell me things.”
In Luke's defense, things have been happening really fast, but Reggie’s back before he can really say more.
But it all works out in the end, and their new band and his boyfriend are both good.

Pairing: FWB! Ethan Torchio x Photographer! Fem Reader
Summary: As much as you want to deny it, you want to be more than friends with benefits with Ethan.
Word Count: 2.9k
Warnings: Kinda smutty but no actual smut, Ethan is a lil bit of an asshole in this, at least I think he is. There's also a lot of swearing, bc there is, and mentions of conflicts with parents.
Masterlists & Taglist
A/N: So uh... it's been a long while since I last wrote on here. Idk if people still read these but here you go! I missed writing dearly. It's also me just messing around, trying to get back into the writing habit again. Might add a part two if you guys like it cuz I've got some ideas. This is also inspired by a request I got a while ago, however it's like the events that happened before the request, if that makes sense.
═══*.·:·.☽✧ ✦ ✧☾.·:·.*═══
A month left of the contract. That’s the very thought that has left a deep-seated sense of anxiety in your brain the more you let yourself think about it. For the past eleven months, you have been living the dream of traveling around the world with Måneskin and being their photographer. It was a job you would have never imagined having but one you are glad to have found.
It had been as much of a jump of faith for them to hire you with such little professional experience under your belt as it had been for you to accept the job. You left behind everything you knew for the opportunity to finally make a significant jump in your career that would make a difference in your future whether or not they renewed the contract for another year.
Then love made its way into the picture to mess everything up. Nothing could have prepared you for what you experienced during that first photoshoot alone with Ethan, the band’s drummer. The intimacy of the moment and the deep conversation shared as you set up your equipment was one that wouldn’t be forgotten easily, especially not when you got so close that it eventually led to the best night you had ever had while in Texas the night before a show.
Once the initial shock of what had happened wore off, you made a mutual agreement to keep it casual, despite the knowledge that whatever existed between you was anything but that. It worked nonetheless, for a long time, so you didn’t even bother questioning just how ephemeral it would be.
Your schedule, as well as the band’s, was full to the brim, leaving little to no time to think about your feelings with all the exciting things that had been going on around you. Until everything stopped and there were no shows or collabs to photographs.
Every single emotion pushed to the back of your mind has resurfaced as you sit alone in your bed for the first time in a while. It is the first night in a long time that you will be able to sleep in your bed instead of at a hotel or inside a cramped bunk on a bus. The whole thing takes you back to reality and helps you sober up from all the adrenaline quicker than you would have liked.
After such a long time away from your family, being back in your childhood room feels unreal. So does hearing your parents talk downstairs while you try to busy yourself editing pictured you’d taken at the last show. You want to take your mind off of all you have left behind and everything you would lose once your contract expired, which doesn’t happen as you look at the picture open in Photoshop. It is one of Vic spraying Damiano with the champagne she had opened to celebrate the end of the tour.
You smile to yourself as a bittersweet feelking makes its way into your heart. You know the band rarely keeps the same photographer around for more than a year and it has felt unfair to ask Ethan if you would be any different, if maybe they had grown to like you enough to keep you around for a little longer. So you just assume and accept that you will suffer the same fate as all the others before you.
The thought saddens you as you look up from your laptop and take a look around your room for the first time since you had arrived. On one of the walls hangs a picture of a college friend of yours you had taken for a photographic essay during your second semester. Close to it, you had placed one of your mother, which makes your heart ache as you look at it, knowing you would never be as close to her as you were when you took that picture.
Your parents have never been content with the idea of you being a photographer, especially not when both of them are engineers and have always envisioned a similar future for you. However, when you decided to go to college, they had been over the moon about it, despite you studying a photography-related degreee.
Sadly, all that happiness came crashing down when, during your fifth semester of college, none other than their manager reached out to you after finding your photography blog. He had gone on and on about how they needed a young and creative photographer in order to capture the band’s flare after their fame sky-rocketted.
You obviously accepted the job and put a pause on college for some time. Your parents had been against your decision and had stopped speaking to you for the first two months or so of you leaving. They eventually came around but things aren’t quite the same anymore. That is why you have found shelter in your room to avoid them and their hurtful comments they think they’re being more casual about.
You hate the situation you’re in much more than you’d like to admit, but what you hate above all else is feeling like an intruder in your own home when it used to be your safe place. You feel hot tears slide down your cheeks as you keep looking at that picture of your mother, asking yourself if the job is worth all this.
You haven’t even found an answer to the question when your phone buzzes. You pick it up from the bed and open the message, which happens to be from Ethan.
Tumblr media
You hesitate while typing your next message. You want to tell him you miss him, but you fear it makes your feelings for him far too obvious. You’ve always wanted to be more than just his friend with benefits, but your fear ir far stronger than your desires. Still, without giving it more thought, you type out the two word message and send it through. Any worries fade away as you read his response.

You shift your balance from your heels to your toes as you wait for Ethan to open the door. After you replied to his text, you didn’t waste a second to drive over to his house, completely ignoring your parents’ complaints.
When he opens the door, you feel a wave of relief wash over you at the sight of him. His dark eyes and easy smile do their usual trick and help you forget about everything else. Then, you feel your breath hitch when your eyes scan over his clothes.
Ethan is dressed in a loose-fitting white button-up shirt with the first few buttons undone, giving you a small glimpse of his toned chest. He pairs it with tight black slacks and polished black shoes. He looks absolutely stunning... as always, you think.
You meet his eyes after a few seconds of gawking at him and soon realize how absolutely fucked you are when you see his long hair is nicely gathered in a bun that sits at the nape of his neck, just how you like it.
That absolute fucker. You absolutely despise how attractive he looks, especially when your thoughts go straight to a few nights ago. You remember your hands tangled in his hair, completely ruining his bun. You remember pulling at it while his head was in between your legs, then while you were having sex. And now all you want to do is hide as you feel your cheeks heat up at the memories.
He lets out a hearty laugh, succesfully snapping you out of your little daydream.
“You’re staring.” Ethan says teasingly.
You roll your eyes at him, “You wish.”
He shakes his head and steps aside to let you in, “It’s nice to see you too, by the way.”
You let out a soft laugh, “We literally just saw each other yesterday.”
"Says the one who told me she missed me. Besides, it's always lovely to see you." He says, in such a relaxed and casual manner, as if it doesn't evoke any emotions within him, while it stirs up everything inside of you.
His place is small and tidy. There are books and plants here and there, scattered in random places all around the kitchen and living room, accompanied by the faint smell of vanilla coming from a lit candle.
Ethan catches you off-guard by wrapping his arms around you in a hug after closing the door behind you. Driven by instinct, your arms wrap themselves around him as you let your face rest on his shoulder for a few seconds.
You pull away enough to look him in the eye. He looks back at you with nothing but warmth in his eyes. Then he plants a gentle kiss on your lips that makes it so much harder for you to believe he has nothing but sexual feelings towards you. How could he kiss you with such gentleness if that were the case?
“I wanted to get out of there so fucking bad.” You mumble as an attempt to quiet down your thoughts.
Ethan gives you a knowing look. He’s the only person who knows everything you have sacrificed to follow your dream. He always tries to reassure you that you had made the right decision, but believing him never gets any easier. Especially not when the price you had to pay was so high.
“You’re always welcome here, dolcezza. Offer still stands if you want to stay until we’re back on the road.” He expresses. When Ethan had first brought the idea up, you had been so shocked to say anything. It’s still hard for you to understand how he is so casual about asking you to move in, yet turning into something other than fuck buddies is too much for him.
Rather than focusing much on your thoughts, you focus on observing him unscrew the cork on a bottle of wine that had previously been sitting inside the fridge.
“Being back here is so strange,” You say as he pours wine into a glass for you, “I didn’t spend a lot of time at home while I was at college either, so it kinda made me think I wouldn’t feel much different than how I did then...”
The words slowly die down in your throat, and your attention drifts away to the bright light over the kitchen counter.
“Hey, hey,” Ethan says gently as an attempt to get your attention. He leans forward to cup your cheeks, “All this you’re going through isn’t easy. I get it’s probably much more overwhelming when all this negativity is coming from your parents of all people.”
You place a hand over his and close the distance left between his lips and yours. The kiss is a comforting sign of understanding between you both, a silent way of saying that everything will be alright.
You tangle your hands in his hair to bring him closer to you, to feel more of his lips on yours. He smiles softly at your actions and reacts by brushing his tongue over your bottom lip, which you reciprocate almost right away.
This moment between the two of you feels like none you’d had before. You have grown familiar with messy quickies squeezed into every free space that could be found in your busy schedules. Unlike then, there is no recording session, interview, or show to stop you from taking your sweet time together.
Knowing he can, Ethan enjoys every kiss and touch with you, extending them as much as his body allows him to. He lets his hands slowly wander under your shirt as you break the kiss to catch a breath. His hands warm up your skin as they make their way up your waist and he lets out a soft chuckle upon noticing you were wearing nothing underneath your blue sweater.
“Something tells me you don’t just want to watch the movie.” He laughs as his lips trail down to your neck.
You laugh too, “I actually do, but this is pretty great too.”
He pulls away from you completely despite your protests and starts walking towards his room. You follow him with an eager smile on your face, happy to let him fuck away your worries.
You’re still wrapped in a curtain of bliss after the intimate moment you’ve had. Between his soft pecks and warm hands you slowly let go of any sort of worries that had still been clinging to your body and mind. Instead, you let all of your attention fall on the words that easily fall from his lips like calm rivers.
“You’re beautiful, sweetheart.” He murmurs through parted lips before they keep on sucking on your exposed neck. You do nothing but hum in response, basking in the pleasure his attention brings along.
He can’t keep his hands and lips off you. You’re already so overstimulated that you cannot even think straight anymore as he draws shapes on your back. So it happens, in only a few seconds and with a phrase that anyone but Ethan would’ve been happy to hear, you lose it all. While he places kisses along your collarbones and gently massages your breast while his free hand holds yours, you mumble out words you won’t be able to take back, ever…
“I love you.”
At first, his dark eyes look into yours with surprise and a slight touch of happiness, words still processing in the very back of his mind. Then, any trace of gentleness and adoration that had been previously present, vanishes. You lose the warmth of his hands against your naked body when he stands up and puts a distance between you that feels infinite.
You see his face harden as he leans down to pick up his shirt from the floor, your heart falling to your stomach as you watch him get dressed. He avoids your eyes, which you suspect is much more painful than if he were looking at you.
That moment of silence seems to stretch out into what feels like an eternity. You don’t know what to say, and by the looks of it, your words have also rendered him speechless.
You feel the need to get up and try to reach out to him. To try and make up an excuse that explains why you said it, but your body doesn’t move. You just wait impatiently for him to speak first.
“Please get out.” Ethan says coldly, your heart shattering as you search for any trace of that warmth that used to be in his eyes just seconds ago. But his expression remains neutral and void of emotion. An  expression you have never seen before.
“Ethan, please,” Your eyes start getting watery as you plead. Your body finally responds and allows you to stand up and walk closer to him as you put your sweater back on. “Please, I’m sorry.”
There’s a part of you that feels pathetic at the sound of your wavering voice as you ask for forgiveness. An unmistakable desperation in your tone that you wish would disappear and a sharp pain in your heart that you want to ignore.
“I said get out.” You watch as his expression shifts into what you mistake as anger, but it’s nothing more than pure heartbreak.
“Please don’t, let’s talk about this. You can’t just kick me out before we do.” He’s still looking away from you, which makes you feel like your words are being dismissed by him.
“I can, and I will.” Ethan says firmly as he buttons his slacks.
“Come on, did our relationship mean nothing to you?” You say those words as a last attempt to bring him back to his senses. At first, you think it works because he’s finally looking back at you, but what he says next makes it clear that’s not the case.
“We are not in a relationship, we never were.”
“Fine, fuck this shit! I’m tired of just being someone you fuck whenever you’re bored anyway.” You see his whole expression soften at your harsh words. Ethan tries to reach out but you notice he debates on it before letting his hand fall back to his side.
Everything went to shit so quickly with those three little words. The friendship you have been building up for years has just been ruined in less than ten minutes and you have no idea what the fuck you’re supposed to do next.
“You know that’s not what this is! You’re so much more than that, you’re my best friend!” His voice is much gentler than it was, but you don’t notice it because of the anger that’s building up at his words.
“Well, you have a shitty way of showing it. Best friends don’t do whatever the fuck we do!” You turn your back to him and start collecting the rest of your clothes and car keys.
You feel his hand on your shoulder as you dress up, but you shrug it away, “Don’t. I’m listening to you and getting out of here.”
A part of you hopes he’ll go after you, but this is no romcom, so he doesn’t do anything to stop you and lets you leave.

When an ancient being recruits them to stop an even more ancient evil, a college pop band must choose between their music careers and saving the world.
I've mostly been posting these guys on my dedicated instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/sappho_and_the_poets/) but it's not so good for the text-heavy info posts so I thought i'd start a blog here!
This is the 2024 lineup for the main characters of my dream project.
R'afa is a bull shark mermaid and is the drummer for the band. They're also Sappho's sibling
Sappho is a sphynx and she's the bass guitarist and namesake of their band. She's Raf's sibling
Frey is a werewolf and the lead guitarist
Katlete is the keytarist and lead vocalist!
I'll have much more to post here as I develop the story!
FAQ for the project below!
Q: What medium is the project?
A: I'm writing Sappho and the Poets to be a third-person adventure game made in unreal engine. You'll be able to play as either Sappho, Katlete, R'afa, or Frey. The overall story will largely remain the same, but there will be different opportunities and choices depending on who you choose to play as.
Q: What is each character's play style?
A: Sappho is close-range combat, Frey is a long range archer, R'afa is the shield-bearer and tank, and Katlete is support as a healer, but also has many low-damage AOE spells
Q: When will the project be finished?
A: As of 3/25/2024 I'm unsure. I anticipate the project taking about 3-4 years.
Q: Will you be crowdfunding the game?
A: not directly! I plan to post devlogs and offer previews on ko-fi, but I don't believe a campaign on a site like kickstarter would be something I consider unless I reach a point where I need to hire a developer to help
Q: What is the story about?
A: there are many themes, both overall and individual to each character such as loss of faith, uncovering systemic lies, the shut out feeling that comes with being mixed race. Overall the story is about four college students who are dragged into a prophecy that forces them to choose between the perceived end of the world and their own safety and future.
Q: What platform will the game be on?
A: my goal is to release it on Steam or itch.io to be played on PC and Mac with controller support. Ideally I can also create a console patch, but it's very much a "we'll get there if we get there" situation!
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them in my inbox!

An Offering From Drumeo | Sleep Token II/ Uma Oferenda da Drumeo | Sleep Token II
youtube
II: I am II and this is an offering from Drumeo.
II: Eu sou o II e esta é uma oferenda do Drumeo.
Interviewer: Well, to all of you out there watching – this is going to be a really special Drumeo live feature, because this is the first recorded video interview that any member of Sleep Token has ever done and we’re honored that II has decided to do this with us. So welcome here, thanks for tuning in! And for any of you who don’t know who II is: he’s a founding member and the drummer for the anonymous band Sleep Token. They just put out a brand new album this year called Take Me Back to Eden, which is one of my personal favorite albums of this year – of 2023. I highly recommend you go check it out because it’s unreal and II’s playing is incredible. But before we jump into the interview – what you see here on the YouTube channel just scratches the surface of what we do here at Drumeo. Inside of our membership, we have thousands of song transcriptions with drumless tracks, including tons of stuff from Sleep Token. We have a full method that will teach you anything and everything about playing the drums. So if you want to check that out, there’s a link down below – drumeo.com/trial – and you can see everything we’re up to in the members area. We’re going to get into it: we’re going to be talking about II’s drumming, we’re going to be talking about some Sleep Token songs, and II is going to be playing a bunch of tracks. Let’s get right into it! Here we go.
Interviewer: So, from the drums, you can hear lots of influences just in your playing. You can hear rock, metal, electronic music. How do you apply all of this within your drum parts?
II: I’ve always personally taken a lot of inspiration from the UK dance music scene. Listening to various subgenres of drum and bass, specifically, allowed me to incorporate stylistic traits from those genres into my vocabulary as a drummer.
Interviewer: So, over the three Sleep Token records, how has your playing evolved from the first to the last album?
II: I would say that while my stylistic approach and goals have generally stayed the same, my vocabulary on the kit has expanded. I try to work on not always using the same phrases, or using those phrases in the same voicing, to ensure the parts remain somewhat interesting. However, this in itself is a continual work in progress. As a player, I will admit that I – like others – don’t always achieve this. But to me, that is very, very much all part of the journey itself.
II: As I mentioned, I’m also a big fan of R&B and pop, which has worked its way into my playing. I grew up primarily playing metal, so the next obvious step for me was to blend these other styles in amongst heavier playing to add versatility to my drum parts.
Interviewer: So, when you’re developing your drum parts for the albums, are you just coming up with those yourself before the rest of the song is built or are you hearing the other instrument parts first and then basing your parts off of that?
II: Most – if not all – of the time, I try to pay close attention to the vocals and figure out any specific syllables that can benefit from accents on the kit. I sometimes use the vocal line as a guide of sorts to dance in between what’s being sung, too. Filling in those gaps, if you will. Typically speaking, songs don’t start from a particular drum part, although this isn’t necessarily deliberate. Another element I look for when writing are any specific syncopation[s] that the drums must match. This could be a pattern on the guitar, a breakdown of sorts, something… something electronic … But I feel this takes away a lot of the guesswork when initially writing parts and provides me with a clearer idea of the song in question.
Interviewer: So, around the kit, you can see you’re using lots of different linear stockings and sticking patterns. What are some of the ones that you would say define your drumming?
II: I’ve always been a big Eric Moore fan, and gospel drummers in general, that I’ve taken a lot of influence from. A couple of Eric’s licks find their way into my playing. As an example, I use an eight-note linear phrase, which is played as right-left-right-left-kick, right-left-kick. That, along with a phrase called the ‘3-1-3-2’, which is a triplet phrasing of nine notes played as right-left-right-kick, right-left-right again on the hands, and then finished with two notes on the kick. What I particularly like about this phrasing is that it’s three notes short of resolving itself. So, as a drummer, you’re forced to be creative with those last three notes and finish the sticking – the phrasing – in any way you see fit.
II: Additionally, I’m a big fan of the standard paradiddle. I use this as a chop starter often, as I feel it’s an organic way to prepare the listener for a slightly busier section within the drums themselves.
II: I also use the six stroke roll often in various elements of my playing – whether it’s groove- or fill-based. Another song I enjoy playing live is entitled ‘Like That’. This is from our second record. Arguably, the drum parts in that song are, to this day, my favorite that I’ve written.
É do nosso segundo disco.
Interviewer: So, when you’re performing live with Sleep Token, do you try to stay true to the record or are you actually taking quite a few creative liberties in the live set?
II: I would say that most of the parts that I tend to play in a live setting vary drastically to what was tracked on the record itself. This happens for a number of reasons. Sometimes, when I have more time to sit with a finished track, while rehearsing for a tour, I can look at it through a different lens and subsequently come up with a more interesting variation live. On the other hand, these things can happen more naturally and take on a different feel or sticking due to simply playing a certain song for long periods of time across touring. There are, of course, certain parts in each song that must remain true to the original. This could be a syncopated guitar part or even an electronic part on the pads that serves more of a supporting role within the song.
Interviewer: So, who are some of your favorite drummers who have influenced your playing over the years?
II: When I first started playing, I – like many others in my generation – were heavily into drummers such as Joey Jordison, Matt from the band Mudvayne, as well as the more extreme speed players, such as Derek Roddy.
II: I was very much obsessed with the gospel style of playing. I spent most of my early adulthood studying players.
II: Tony Royster Jr., Eric Moore, Thomas Pridgen. Slowing down … Simply slowing down YouTube videos in a feeble attempt to understand their concepts, their stickings and influences. These days, I would describe my playing style as a mixture of that signature Abe Cunningham, Deftones-inspired heavier sort of grooving with a linear style gospel influence.
II: Tony Royster Jr., Eric Moore, Thomas Pridgen. Desacelerando…
Interviewer: So, II, what are some of your favorite Sleep Token songs to perform live?
II: I’ve always enjoyed playing a song from our first record entitled Sundowning called ‘Higher’. The parts in that song have always felt very interactive to me, very fun to play, while maintaining a fair deal of variance across the song itself. In regards to any newer material, I enjoy playing a track called ‘The Summoning’ due to the live addition of a drum solo that gives me a little a little more creative freedom, as well as its challenging feel.

ECOATM — S-T (Great Corner Sound)
Tumblr media
Detroit invented techno in the 1980s and 1990s, fusing the android-synth propulsion of Kraftwerk to the hedonistic excesses of disco and Chicago house. In the years since, machine-tooled electronics have continued to flourish and bleed into other genres in the Wolverine State (see the Dirtbombs’ fabulous covers album, Party Store, reviewed here by Emerson Dameron).Much fertile ground, then, lays open for Dr. Pete Larson’s new Michigan-centric electronic imprint Great Corner Sound to explore. This opening salvo from ECOATM is a very good start.
Great Corner Sound is somewhat cagey about exactly who is involved in ECOATM, though Larson has hinted (broadly, see photo above) that Michigan all-arounder Fred Thomas (of His Name Is Alive, Saturday Looks Good to Me, Tyvek, Idle Ray, Winged Wheel, etc.)is the man behind the curtain. If so, it’s a radically new look for him.ECOATM doesn’t sound like any of his previous bands.
The disc starts with skittery “Deluge,” an antic skirmish of drums and synthesizer that erupts periodically into full-on battery. It moves quickly and lightly, rattle-stomping barrages of terse snare and cymbals like gloves on a speed bag.“Stimulus Check” leaves more negative space between its thumps and rattles, an altered voice popping up on off-beats like a stuttery ghost. You can feel a drummer’s sensibility (again, maybe Thomas, maybe not) in the way these cuts box up time in tight, inelastic packages, a music made of points and vacancies, no colors.
Yet not everything is a rush and a clatter. Some of these cuts run surprisingly lyrical, with long echoing synth tones that sculpt otherworldly shapes in the air.“Glass Yard,” for instance, flickers and glows, nearly rhythmless as its bright notes blink on and off. “Dawnless” moves ponderously, a big drum boom punctuating the end of glittering glass-bead guitar lines. And “As You Said” floats in a percolating unreal synth space, the thump of kickdrum anchoring airy iterations of keyboard motifs.
It's all pretty good, surgically scrubbed but not unwelcoming, the kind of clean well-lighted sonic space that invites cogitation rather than bodily motion.Whoever made it (maybe Fred Thomas!) was from Michigan, continuing a mighty tradition of electronic experiment.Roll on Motor City.
