Hi, in tgcf do you ship jun wu x mei niang qing?
Yeah, I do!
Not hardcore, because Jun Wu is probably one of my least fave MXTX characters even if he is an excellently written one, and Mei Nianqing wasn’t much more likable for me (stop being so mean to Huahua!) But Junmei has enough parallels with Hualian’s relationship that I think the subtext can be whatever you want it to be, and the concept is nice. I don’t ship it enough to like, create content for it on its own, but I did write them in my MXTX crossover fanfic saga.
Canonically, I liked how Mei Nianqing is called out by the narrative for his judging and over-reliance on fate, and how Jun Wu’s devastating, consuming loneliness can only even start to heal when someone who understands the best and worst of him decides to stay by his side. It matches Hua Cheng’s point earlier: what matters is you, and not the state of you. Mei Nianqing isn’t much more righteous inherently, imo, despite being more passive than active, and him choosing to finally take action in the end and encourage Jun Wu to stop fighting, to recognize his own weakness, and not leaving him/punishing him for it, was a lovely redemptive moment in the novel.
