PLEASE ADD A READ MORE SECTION because some of us don't want to scroll for 30 seconds im not trying to be rude but please put some under a read more cut please
hey so i don’t mean to be rude either but the post literally already does have a readmore. i dunno why it didn’t show up for you (maybe you’re on mobile & the app got fucky?), but it. it’s there. like, right there. like so:
[id: screenshot of a post by me, user arodrwho, timestamped 2 years ago and titled “aro/ace/nb dr who quotes,” which reads “here, have a fuckton of quotes that either confirm or imply aro-spectrum ace nb dr who,” followed by "Keep reading / Read More Now!” and a series of tags which read, “#doctor who #aawfc #meant to post this monday but wanted to tidy it up + expand it some more #ah well #sorry the organization’s wonky. some things are in categories where they don’t really belong #and some category names should probably be something else #but i’ve been messing w/this post for hours now and if i try to fix it any more my head’ll explode #(also. sorry for the length #it really is obscenely long)”. end id]
EDIT: on the off chance you might be interested in a set of links that don’t require you to scroll for quite so many years, i’ve been reminded that there are these, organized & prettified by the fantastic @aromantic-eight:

HELLOOO I am LOVING your fic excerpts and I was just wondering if you had any general writing advice? For supernatural specifically or just fic writing in general?
omg THANK YOU <3 i am by no means An Expert, i am intermediate at best, so here’s a medium amount of advice:
for dean’s speech specifically, write a normal sentence and then swap at least one word or phrase out for a winchesterism
outline, outline, outline. not everybody can work this way but knowing what you’re doing next in your story will prevent a good 75% of writer’s block* and then you will write more stuff faster. i like to go one step further and block out my scenes post-outlining, so that my ACTUAL first draft is some weird outline/draft hybrid. cuts down on post-writing editing needed, too
*the trick is, i don’t actually believe in writer’s block. i believe every time you’ve stopped working on a project it can be solved with one of the three parts of the triangle method. (either that you don’t know what happens next, you’re not excited about what happens next, or you don’t have the right time/space/energy to write. the excitement factor is why i talk about what i’m working on and even post excerpts sometimes! it’s actually part of the entire process!)
every plot hole is fixable. ALL OF THEM. no logistics issue is as bad as it seems. it just takes a little problem-solving and a can-do attitude. remember that unless you pulled a cw and wrote death of the author a little TOO well, you are without exception the omnipotent god of your story. your characters are not sentient and your plot is nothing more than a series of moving parts.
use pomodoro!!! i write in my browser in gdocs so an extension that prevents you from switching to the tumblr tab when u get bored will go a long way. set an actual egg timer if you have to - work 20 minutes, break five minutes, do that over and over. you’ll fly
no zero days. this is rich coming from me who just had two weeks of zero days in a row, but most of the time, when i’m working on a project, i like to open it up every single day. even if all you do is reread a bit of it or write one sentence or EDIT one sentence, it keeps it fresh in your brain. it’s like going home for summer vacation and then it being REEEEALY hard to get back in the grind of school. out of sight, out of mind, so if you really want to finish something, don’t keep it out of either. (extenuating circumstances notwithstanding, obviously - if shit sucks there’s no need to beat yourself up for not opening up your fanfic.)
if you like charts and etc, color-coded organization tables+keeping track of your wordcount can be a nice thing to do some productive procrastination on.
just write as much as humanly possible. i read somewhere once that it takes ten million words to make a master, and i myself have been writing for about 17 years and change and i’m still only at 4 million for my lifetime total, so, you know, you’re never gonna be finished getting better, practice makes perfect, etc
and finally, accept from the get-go that whatever you’re writing probably won’t get the kind of attention you were hoping for. comment culture is a whole big beehive of a debate i don’t feel like swinging a baseball bat at right now, but like for your own sanity you can’t hinge your enjoyment of writing a project on how much attention it gets. my 15.18 fixit that i spent three days on got hundreds of kudos/comments/etc, but @callowyn and i wrote on @cambionverse (spn next gen fic) for YEARS before it got its first longtime fans, and even now our total audience is, like, 12 people - despite it having shown up in an actual academic textbook a couple of years ago. i personally think a lot more love, time, and attention went into the latter project, and that it’s miles better than any other spn fic i’ll ever write, but the audience is so tiny that it will NEVER never get the same engagement as the deancas stuff. and that’s fine! i’m writing it because i love it, not because it’s popular. it’s always sad not to get as much attention as you wanted, but if it’s so sad that it makes you not want to write anymore, you have a problem. either you don’t actually like writing or you’re putting all your emotional eggs in the wrong basket. so don’t do that!
[fic advice masterpost]

Hiya Morgy! Hope you doing well! If Head cannons are still open, could I request the jojos with a s/o who has been having sensory overload a lot lately? (if you want me to clarify on what that is, let me know!)
This is v v late but I’m gonna try my best to portray this as well as I can!
Jonathan:
- At first is quite overwhelmed by YOUR own overwhelmed nature because he just??? doesn’t know what to do since it happened all of a sudden and he was never faced with something of that nature before??? Fret not though because as soon as your sensory overload happens, Jonathan being the wholesome gentleman that he is, will quickly pull you to the side and away from any other people as he’d gently whisper words of comfort and love whilst tightly holding you into his big, welcoming arms.
- Whether a crowd or other certain triggers made it happen, Jonathan will be sure to remove the source of your sensory overload as often as possible. After you calmed down and he lead you to a quiet place, the man would keep his tight yet comfortable grip around you as he’d ever so gently ask you questions about your triggers and such, afraid of coming off as forceful and uneducated which would be lowkey cute, especially because of the small blush adorning his cheeks the entirety of time.
- He’d keenly educate himself on the subject in order to be able to protect and care for you properly which would be pretty fuckin wholesome tbh. Soon enough Jonathan is going to not only remove you from a stressful situation when the need arises, but also quickly identify the symptoms of your overload, taking action immediately then proceeding to calm you down as he’d make you focus on other distractions all the while slowly stroking your hair and slowly speaking to you in a soft tone as to not alarm you further. Overall, one of your best picks because he’s invested, attentive and wholesome as f u c c.
Joseph:
- Fucking disaster who freaks the fuck out the first time it happens because he’s never had anyone around him go through sensory overload right before his very own eyes and so he assumes you’re under the attack of an enemy or something. But his dumbass immediately realizes that he’s done a g r a v e mistake once he sees you trying to get away from people and so he’s dashing towards you and helping you out in less than a second whilst erratically apologizing and cursing himself for being so unaware.
- That evening Joseph will be feeling highkey guilty, the man doing his best to calm you down and soothe your nerves by holding you into his arms, talking quietly and even massaging you since he’s heard that it does, in fact, help you out in cases like these. The entirety of time Joseph will be constantly apologizing and would STILL feel just a tiny bit of guilt even after you’d keep reassuring him that it’s ok. From that day on you’ll have his word that he’s going to properly educate himself on the matter.
- After that certain incident, you bet your ass that Joseph will be significantly more aware of you and your symptoms/triggers. As much of an airhead as he is, Joseph will quickly be able to identify said triggers and will constantly be on watch, pulling you close to him and covering your ears whenever you’d pass by certain loud noises or particularly noisy crowds. He’ll do his best to remove any stressful/triggering situation and if the sensory overload DOES happen again, your ever so caring boyfriend will quickly remove you from the situation then drop everything just to comfort and calm you down. 11/10 doesn’t move an inch unless he’s ABSOLUTELY sure you’re fine.
Jotaro:
- I believe he may or may not had gone through something like this at certain points in his life. Maybe not as severe as your case, though, but still. If anything I’d say he’s got high levels of anxiety going on so even the smallest of things can be a trigger. Now even if these 2 obviously aren’t the same, Jotaro will be able to tell that something was wrong the second you’d start trembling then covering your ears. Besides the fact that he’s h e l l a attentive and knows your tics and reactions to things in general.
- He’ll wordlessly pull you away whilst shielding you from anything that was bothering you then lead you to a quiet place as he’d proceed to comfort you to the best of his abilities. We all know he’s not the best with words, but Jotaro will make sure that you know he’s there for you and that he’ll help and protect you no matter what. The man will slowly but surely run his hands all over your back and hair in a comforting manner whilst slowly telling you to calm down and that he’s got your back at all times.
- And be 100% sure that he’ll instantly learn each and every single thing that triggered your sensory overload as well. His actions always speak louder than a thousands unsaid words and doing things such as looking out for you and learning your triggers is Jotaro’s own way of showing you that he loves and cares about you. You don’t like crowds and loud noises? Good, neither does he. Spending the day in as you enjoy eachother’s company is ideal in his opinion anyway. Bright lights bug you? Jotaro will replace them with weaker ones. Literally a n y t h i n g that helped you be safe and sound he’ll do it in a heartbeat.
Josuke:
- Definitely heard of sensory overload before but hasn’t experienced it or had anyone around him experience it before, so he WILL panic but quickly pull himself together the next second and quite literally drag you by the hand away from whatever was bothering you. He’s definitely the fussy type when it comes to his close ones so you better expect him to entirely refuse to let you go from his arms no matter how many times you protest that you’ve fully calmed down,
- Educates himself on the matter further so he can meticulously prevent any other incidents in the future. Ngl Josuke will be lowkey sad to hear that you’ve been going through such tough times recently, which is why he’d quickly offer to give you lots of distractions and fun things to do if that meant you’d have lesser chances of going into sensory overload. And let me tell you, even if he’s the extroverted kind, Josuke will even go out significantly less if you were to be triggered by crowds/loud noises.
- He’ll do his best to distract you by putting on your favorite shows, bringing you plenty of snacks, dimming the lights and even speaking in a softer tone. His voice is usually booming and loud so he’d hate to cause you any further distress, like don’t even get me s t a r t e d on just how fuckin awful he’d feel if he were to accidentally trigger you by mistake. Hence why he’d try being as supportive and careful as possible, quickly removing you from stressful situations and providing you with care and comfort at all times. And god forbid if anyone ever purposefully triggers you, Josuke will literally obliterate them and send them flying into the damn sun.
Giorno:
- Your second best pick after Jonathan because this man is literally z e n. He tries eliminating each and every source of stress and anxiety from his life (which is funny considering what he does and in which environments he spends his time usualy) and you bet your ass that he’ll do the same for you. The first time he sees you covering your ears and wincing he instantly knows what’s wrong, the man ever so gently pulling you to the side whilst reassuring you that everything will be fine and that he’s there for you.
- Even if it wasn’t his fault for not knowing at first, Giorno will still feel a little guilty for not being careful enough as to prevent your sensory overload and will work his ass off in order to do so in the future. My mans literally brings out the meditation, massage and calming music. Hell, he’ll even sing/hum something in order to calm you down because let me tell you, he’s got an a n g e l i c voice but he’s just too shy to show it off in the beginning. But the second you tell him that his singing calms you down Giorno will literally do it whenever he can in order to get you to calm down.
- You can count on him 25/8 because not only is he gonna punch any asshole that tries triggering you on purpose, but he’ll educate everyone around him as to not stress you further by mistake and is actually pretty fuckin amazing at getting you to calm down after another episode. Giorno will be quick to make you some calming tea as he’d dim all the lights and speak quietly, holding and cuddling you for literal hours if that meant you’d be feeling better. May or may not go to Bruno for further advice and other methods to calm you down because that man is zen 2.0

Okay but I do actually want to know both the things you love and the things you could rant about from DCTL?
OH BOY UHHHHHH okay lets see, I'm gonna see if I can do the "add a readmore after you post it" thing and see if that'll keep it stable.......
But also, much like Sammy, I am incapable of shutting up unless you strike me in the head with a blunt object, so uh, forgive my wordiness:
THINGS I ENJOY:
- DCTL gave us Sammy's ink addiction and like, if you had asked me before all this "what would you most like to see in a franchise?" I would not have answered "one of the characters drinks ink accidentally and then discovers that he can't stop" but boy that sure is my favourite concept that I LOVE to see handled literally any other way than how the book handled it!!!
- I like what it added to Tom and Allison and Norman!! Like, it's not big twists on their characters or anything -- we already knew Tom felt he was doing the wrong thing, so getting to see his CRUSHING GUILT over creating the machine isn't New Information, but it's nice to see and understand more of him; for all of them I feel a lot more attached to them after getting to see more of them as people.
- Like 90% of the "I LOVE IT" category for me is how the book handled Joey, and Buddy's relationship with Joey. The way Joey isn't a Sinister Mastermind Who’s Just Screwing With Everyone but just manipulative in a more mundane way -- someone who thinks of himself as just the guy with the vision to call the shots; he wants what he wants and this is how he's learned to get it; he exploits people not through devious schemes, but just by offering them something that they want or need and asking too much in return, expecting their loyalty for his favours. And the way he interacts with Buddy, making Buddy complicit with him and keeping Buddy off-balance and insecure while making him a favourite and treating him as Special is just PERFECT -- gives a lot of content to kind of extrapolate off of when pondering what must've drawn the others in and convinced them to ignore the red flags. I was initially frustrated with the idea of Buddy not being an artist and jUST DECIDING TO LEARN TO ANIMATE ON THE SPOT ("I've never done this before but I'm sure I can just do an artist's job" is a weirdly common throwaway thing in media and as an artist iTS A PET PEEVE) but actually the way they use his plagiarism to make him trapped in a lie in ways Joey doesn't even realise ends up being a neat echo of other employees (coughTOMcough), who were involved in much graver sins but suddenly felt they couldn't object or they'd lose their one chance, just like Buddy. There's a lot here that I think is really great.
OKAY THATS THE GOOD STUFF, LET'S COMPLAIN ABOUT SAMMY:
- Uncomfortable Bigotry Vagueness that we all knew was gonna be in this list -- I dunno man, a guy committing a microaggression and getting startled and defensive when he's called out for it doesn't necessarily completely ruin his character I GUESS, but the way this was handled is just SO WEIRD AND VAGUE that it's uncomfortable and it doesn't seem to serve any real purpose. "Is Tom black?" is a question I actually have to ask because the text sort of implies he is while also dancing around it and apparently Word of God said he's not??? which makes Buddy's comment nonsensical???? And I mean, you could go that route, since Buddy wonders to himself if Sammy talks to everyone like this -- HE ACTUALLY DOES!! Even within the text of the novel, he uses "Joey" instead of Mr. Drew, which is consistent with his audiologs in the game -- but that makes the writing suggest "this character THINKS this guy might be racist but actually they're reading too much into it and it wasn't racially motivated at all, he's just a jerk!!" wHICH IS SOMEHOW EVEN MORE ICKY??? Anyway like yeah I guess it's not inconsistent with his character that while Sammy Lawrence may not have any specific grudge against minorities he has probably not checked his privilege or done the work to challenge his own internal biases, but “Your Fav Probably Contributes To Systemic Racism In Ways He Hasn’t Considered, As Do We All When Our Assumptions Go Unchecked” is still a wild thing to wade through in a fun story about demonic cartoons
- but yknow so is T H E H O L O C A U S T
- Sammy's voice is wrong. I'm actually okay with him being a weird awkward asshole, I already kind of assumed he was and that's part of why I like him!! but there's so many places he doesn't quite... talk like himself? And not just in terms of word choice, like -- so in his monologue at the end, he's described as talking so quickly that his words are "tumbling out faster than he can speak them," which initially seems fine; like yeah, that's a Standard Scene we're familiar with, the person who's been Driven Mad With Insight becoming more and more manic as they try to convey it -- until I tried to imagine it and realised that Sammy doesn't talk like this. That's a really consistent quality I always notice about his voice; whether he's almost giddily excited in prophet mode, or he’s his irritated and overworked human self, or he's violently angry and his voice has that echo effect -- he always speaks very deliberately. He enunciates carefully. There's some circumstances where I'd buy this as showing that he's Not Himself, but I feel like those would kind of need to be in the middle of his transformation, not at the end of it.
- In fact a lot of the scenes with Sammy kind of have this feeling -- that it's not necessarily an exploration of Sammy as a character, but that he is filling a trope or archetype role here. Once he's fully transformed he excitedly describes the process as more of a mental compulsion, which is in contrast to his weird yeerk-infected behaviour when trying to get ink from Miss Lambert. Both of those scenes don't seem wrong on their own because they fit tropes we know -- but they feel weird when you try to fit them together.
- I also just in general am not a fan of the ink acting like a weird yeerk. It can be a parasite I guess but when it starts overwriting and puppeting people and crawling around to enter their body that's just a completely DIFFERENT kind of supernatural story and it’s not what im here for!!!
- THE FREAKIN!!! HE WILL SET US FREE!!!! WHY????????? SAMUEL LAWRENCE WHAT IS HE SETTING YOU FREE FROM??????? Sammy has No Motive for any of what he's doing, other than just Ink Made Me Do It. The whole thing that was INTERESTING about Sammy as a character is the contrast between this frustrated, ornery musician with no specific love for the cartoons he works on, and the manically devoted cultist he becomes. What happened in the middle there? What made him desperate enough to shift his mindset so much? "Something supernatural made him do things that don't benefit him in any way" is a very boring answer to this question!!! Susie was a victim who implies that her transformation has forced her to do things she didn't want to do, but we can still see her motive -- she wanted to be Alice, so she took a sketchy offer to try to get what she wanted. Even now, her violence echoes that goal -- to be a more perfect Alice. What did Sammy want? WHO KNOWS. Even in his ink-addled state at the end, we don't understand what he hopes the Ink Demon will even do for him, and in fact he seems to be responsible for creating the very scenario he's begging Bendy to reverse in the game.
- [sighs loudly into my hands]
- Overall I'm left wondering if the author just..... didn't like Sammy Lawrence? And I don't mean that in the sense of him being a rude jerk -- like, Joey is not a good person, but the author seems to be interested in him and in what makes him tick. There doesn't seem to be that same interest in Sammy. Sammy's role in the story is that of a monster, transformed into something murderous, unable to prevent or choose it. He's not a victim of anyone but the ink, no one had to manipulate him or figure out how his brain worked or what he wanted or what he feared or give him any reason to do the things he does -- ink got in his mouth and overwrote his personality. And we don't even get to see that change, not really. He starts out angry and defensive and continues being angry and defensive up until his very last scene, denying his ink-stealing but not really much else. We see all his prophetic sketches but we never see hints of this in him, we never see him start to act more excited and hopeful, we never see him seek out the demon he desires to please. Why do we never see Sammy struggling between his dismissive angry front and a building religious fervour he can't quite suppress? We don't get to see any of the in-between. There's no interest at all in why or even what it looked like as Sammy became what he became, when, to be honest, I suspect interest in precisely that is one reason he's such a big fav.
- It's funny, in a "cries into my hands" kind of way, when Sammy is just knocked in the head while monologuing and immediately removed from the story without further mention, like...... that sure is the pattern with him, isn't it, he just tries very very hard and never actually gets to matter, but it also fits right in here, too, in this book that doesn't want to think about his motives -- he rambles nonsensically, explaining nothing, gets one trademark phrase, and then is hastily removed so the story doesn't have to think about him anymore.
...................I think that's most of it.
...
Y'all............ I'm not ready for Sent From Above.......... I'm just not.... I'm not emotionally ready...... like..... Sammy has to be in that right..... he’s Susie’s boss and she has that big crush on him..................................... I’m not ready
#i know you have questions you always do#we all write on the walls#hopefully I have not gotten completely confused on any of these points but LMAO ITS POSSIBLE

Journey to Middle Earth - Chapter 13
Summary – What if JRR Tolkien never gave Thorin a love story… because the person that was meant to be Thorin’s was not yet born when he wrote the Hobbit? Sara journeys from her world to Middle Earth after an accident, with a mission. To change something about the Hobbit story… but she is not sure what. What she does not know is that while trying to prevent something from happening, something new might arise between her and the dwarf prince….even if it is not on the agenda!
Warnings – None, no explicit scenes, some kissing, violence, frightening creatures, mentions of abuse.
Pairings – Thorin Oakenshield x OC
If Sara thought that Thorin’s consistent shouldering staring was obvious before their marriage, it skyrocketed ten fold over the course of a few minutes. Only now, it seemed less out of jealousy but more possessiveness. Whenever Sara had joked and spoken with the other members of the company before, Thorin would watch her like a vulture, afraid that if he looked away, someone would steal her clean off the earth. Now, he didn’t just watch but looked ready to bite of any man’s head if he got too close to her. Sara found this rather amusing but also troubling since she could barely dance with anyone other than Balin without Thorin’s deep throat growling reaching her ears. The rest of the company had noticed and had been careful to steer clear of the mad male baboon’s mate. They also saw to it that only Sara’s brothers danced with the girl.
Thorin had avoided dancing even with his bride which put Sara out until she learnt from Dwalin that Thorin had avoided all dancing lessons as a kid and young adult in order to spend most of his time in the armory and stables. Sara found this enticing since Thorin hated seeing her dancing with someone other than himself but couldn’t dance at all. Finally, unable to spend more time dancing while Thorin stared, Sara decided to give him a signal. Leaving Omar to learn how to dance from Rose, she walked over to where Thorin stood, leaning against the wall with one hand on his belt and the other holding a mug of ale, once again abandoned of all thought.
“Hello Handsome,” Sara said, using her favorite line from Gabriel’s Inferno, “Are you not going to dance?”
Thorin had already told her “no” earlier but from the way she was gazing at him from under her long lashes, he couldn’t stop himself from answering.
“No,”
Sara smiled, “Well in that case I am going on a walk. It is getting warm in here.”
With that, she leant forward and planted a kiss on the edge of Thorin’s lips, purposely missing most of his mouth.
Thorin instinctively leant forward to capture her lips but Sara swerved out of the way before smiling and waving as she grabbed her cloak and headed towards the door. Thorin watched her go before he felt dozens of eyes on him and turned to see that across the hall, the company were all smirking and giving him signals of all sorts to follow the girl.
Thorin went to take a chug of ale but hesitated and instead slammed the mug on a nearby table as if to give himself confidence. With no one but the obnoxious company watching with cat like stares, Thorin stormed after Sara, not caring that he forgot his cloak.
When he found Sara, she had entered the room that Rose and Deke had leant them for the night. She had left the door open as she dropped her cloak to the floor.
“How come you do not wish to dance?” she asked, not turning around.
Thorin sighed, “I never learnt how to,” he admitted as he closed the door behind him.
Sara turned to him and held out her hand, “Dance with me?”
Thorin froze, all the times she had asked him to dance, she never asked him to dance with her and he realized she had been waiting for him to ask, she had just been hinting at it. Approaching her, Thorin took her hand, letting her take the lead. Sara gripped his hand before grasping his left hand and placed it on her waist. Thorin immediately held her close as he placed her left hand on his shoulder and began to slowly sway to the lack of music.
This felt so much more different from earlier. Other than holding hands and kissing during the ceremony, Thorin had not been this close to Sara all night and he liked it. she was flush against him, her hand slipping around his neck and her cheek pressed against his shoulder. he wrapped his arm further around her back before pressing a kiss to her bare shoulder.
Sara sighed at the feeling and he continued, laying kisses up her neck to her jaw when he felt her tremble. He pulled away and looked down into her eyes.
“Are you afraid?” he whispered, concern evident in his blue eyes.
Sara shook her head, “I just… I don’t know what to do… or expect.”
Thorin smiled warmly at her, “it will not hurt too much…”
Sara looked up and her eyes widened, “how do you know?”
Thorin froze, “My sister Dis told me… sadly my mother died before I learnt about all those things and my father never spoke of it so when Dis had Fili, she told me.”
Sara bit her lip. On the outside, Thorin was so stern and serious but deep down, he was like an innocent puppy. Thorin sensed Sara’s uncertainty and pressed a kiss to her forehead.
“To be honest, I know about as little as you do… I do not know what will bring you pleasure or what will bring you pain… so you will have to tell me, so I don’t hurt you.”
Sara lifted her eye and smiled at him lovingly. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she let him pick her up by gripping her legs before planting a hot needy kiss on his lips.
“Just love me… and I know you will not hurt me.”
And that is what he did. Thorin and Sara showed their deep love for each other and gave themselves up. It was almost morning when Thorin finally put Sara to bed, laying pillows and sheets around her as if making her a nest before snuggling up beside her, keeping his arms securely around her waist, refusing to let go. When Sara woke, she was still in Thorin’s arms and he was sleeping soundly beside her, their red and black hair entangled. She smiled at the peace and love on his sleeping face, savoring it for she knew that in three days, that would be gone… and she would begin to lose the real Thorin Oakenshield.
Hey all! Sorry I didn’t get spicy and make this chapter smuttyL the last time I wrote an intimate scene I got a lot of hate for my lack of knowledge in that area so unless ya’ll vote me out, I will not get too spicy. Sorry! Don’t kill me!
********
Pale white light streamed in through the curtain-less windows. The light was not rustic and orange like the light that had touched Sara’s eyes on the road. Nor was it the bold blinding light she had woken to when she had mistakenly fallen asleep facing the east. This light was gentle and soothing like a gentle flutter rousing the sleeping girl. The obnoxious sounds of birds reached her ears and she was just glad it wasn’t the Whip-or-will she had heard on her travels, just yearning to annoy.
Sara rolled around, testing out the temperature of the bed. She half expected to roll over and find where the blanket had been pulled at too much in her sleep but she found herself cuddled amongst all the pillows and an extra blanket cushioning her legs like a cocoon.
The girl looked around for signs of Thorin but there were none. His place was empty and his side of the bed made as if he hadn’t been there in the first place. Sara sat up with a start, causing everything to swim from her sudden change in position. She was just about to push away the sheets when the door to the washroom opened and in stepped Thorin.
Despite how they had spent the night before, Sara blushed crimson at the sight of the half dressed dwarf prince. With only his pants on his lower body, his abdomen and chest were bare to the girl. He was always wearing thick dwarven clothes and Sara never knew what he looked like beneath all those furs and last night the room was dark. Now, fresh out of a bath with steam coming from the open door behind him, Thorin did not disappoint. His arms had the build of a hardworking blacksmith and the rippling sinew traveled from his arms to his incredibly broad and thick shoulders. Like most of him, Thorin was incredibly hairy, with black hair curling over his chest and lower abdomen but leaving most of his stomach partially clean shaven.
“Good morning,” Thorin said with a husky lilt to his voice, making Sara’s heart skip a beat.
The dwarf strode over to Sara and leaning his partially damp self over the nest he had procured for Sara, he pressed his lips to hers, making sure to bite her lower lip as he pulled away.
“Good morning,” Sara murmured, still trying to absorb everything.
Thorin’s eyes scanned her and that was when Sara realized that she was stark naked. She grabbed the sheet and made to cover herself but Thorin grasped her hand to stop her. Bending down, he planted a kiss on her shoulder before trailing down till he reached her stomach where he peppered kisses and then laying his forehead against her stomach.
“I cannot wait until I see you rounding out with our child.” He murmured against her skin, sending tingles down her spine.
Sara smiled. She could only hope he would be around to see that happen. She reached down and threaded her fingers through his black locks, emitting a growl of satisfaction from Thorin.
“We need to get dressed,” Sara muttered, “WE still have to reach the mountain in three days.”
Thorin froze in his movements before pulling away and striding back into the bathroom. Sara felt her heart clench. The moment she mentioned the mountain, he forgot about all else…
**********
“Are you sure you do not want to come with?” Sara asked her brothers.
The three boys nodded. “Axel and I were gonna go see if we could help some of the Laketown people when you-know-who attacks you-know-where.” Omar whispered.
Sara chuckled, “This is Middle Earth, Omar. Not Hogwarts.”
Axel chuckled before turning to his sister, “I promise we will be careful. We explained the situation to Deke and Rose and they want to help us.”
“We’ll see you again Sara,” Ryder chirped, “In Dale.”
Sara smiled at the boy before leaning down and kissing his forehead, “Darn right.”
“Let’s get moving!” Thorin bellowed from where he had already begun to walk off.
Axel raised an eyebrow and looked at Sara, “Will you be alright?”
Sara smiled and nodded, “if worse comes to worst, I will have Bilbo and Balin.”
“Be careful,” the boy whispered as he hugged her one last time.
“Sara! Let’s go!” Thorin called in a demanding tone, cutting off Sara’s reply.
The girl smiled at her brothers before trotting over to Thorin. She half expected him to take her hand but he didn’t even look her in the eyes as he kept walking.
“You didn’t say goodbye,” Sara observed.
Thorin turned to look at her with expressionless, empty eyes, “And?”
Without waiting to hear her reply, Thorin walked on, leaving Sara in the dust.
The girl sighed, “never mind. I am sure your new in-laws wouldn’t mind in the least.”
She felt a hand touch her shoulder and looked into the soft eyes of Bilbo.
“You okay?” he asked, worry lacing his words.
Sara shrugged, “I’ll be fine.”
As Bilbo walked on, sensing that he couldn’t force a different answer from her, Sara kept repeating that answer over and over in her head as if trying to convince herself that it was true.
“Lass,” Dwalin whispered, coming to walk next to her. “Balin told me of you and his worries for Thorin. Is it true? Will he get the sickness?”
Sara swallowed, remembering what Thorin told Dwalin when he was ill in the film. “Yes… but if we do not reclaim the mountain, the world will fall.”
“Does he ever get over it?” Dwalin asked, gnawing his gums as he waited for her answer.
Sara nodded, “As far as I know… I just hope he overcomes the illness before it is too late.”
“If he hurts ye…” Dwalin started.
“He won’t hurt me,” Sara assured him rather weakly.
Dwalin frowned, “He is hurting ye now lass.”
Sara turned to see that Thorin was way ahead at the front, no emotion emitting from his broad back. Just a few hours prior he had been snuggled up next to her with hunger and adoration in his eyes, a boyish smirk on his lips and warmth in his embrace…. Where did that all run off to?
“He isn’t trying to hurt me,” Sara whispered, earning a sigh from Dwalin.
“But he is lass and if it gets worse, you need to thick less about others and worry more about yourself and what you are willing to endure.”
********
Sara yawned heavily as she trekked over the rocky terrain, Gloin and Dwalin on either side of her, ready to catch her should she fall. The company had been protective of Sara from he start but now that she was family, kin and possibly their future queen, they hovered over her like helicopters. Maybe their ulterior reasons were the fact that Thorin practically ignored Sara during the day and she was lacking on sleep. Since leaving the village, Thorin would fall asleep long before Sara, holding her in a caging grip with his arms wrapped around her from behind and wouldn’t let her up till dawn. This meant that if Sara had to get water, relieve herself or shift, she couldn’t which then resulted in her losing sleep by trying to not think of her dry mouth, cramped legs or heavy bladder.
“Anything!?” Thorin hollered.
“Nothing yet!” Dwalin called back to the prince who was consulting the map.
“According to the map, the hidden door should be directly above us.”
Knowing that they would find the door in no time, Sara sat down on a nearby rock to catch her breath and drew out her sketchbook. She smiled at the familiar sight of the company spread out looking for the giant dwarven statue. Grabbing a pencil, she began to roughly sketch the view, making a mental note to add the details and features later when she wasn’t about ready to fall asleep.
“Over here!” Bilbo’s overjoyed voice cut through and everyone rushed to him.
Sure enough, rising like a mountain of its own was a giant stone dwarf, the zigzag of the stone making the trail of the stairs up to the narrow ledge above.
“Well done master Baggins,” Thorin muttered with the largest smile Sara had seen in days.
Dwalin immediately held out his huge hand to help Sara onto the first step but an icy cold hand laid against the small of her back and she was shocked to find Thorin standing behind her, giving Dwalin a death glare.
Without asking for consent or rejection, Thorin lifted her up by the waist and set her on the high first step. Sara quickly grabbed on the next step to keep from wobbling. Heights had never been one of her greatest favorites. She saw both Dwalin and Thorin move to help her to the next step but she gave them both a stern look to back off. Dwalin hesitantly obliged, knowing that she hated being treated like a china doll but Thorin glared darkly at her defiant look. He moved to climb up to grab her and lift her up by Sara hastily climbed up two steps to put distance between herself and the scary dwarf. In her haste, her toe caught and she almost slipped when Balin’s hand shot out and stopped her fall.
He gave Thorin a disapproving look over Sara’s head as he aided the girl further up the stairs. When they finally reached the top, Sara made sure to stay wedged between Balin and Bilbo. She watched as Thorin stared at the grey stone with awe before turning to the company with the key in his hands.
“And all those who doubted us! Rue this day!” he cried with a wide grin, earning cheers from the company.
“We have a key,” Dwalin muttered, “So that means somewhere there is a keyhole.”
Sara watched as Dwalin and Nori tried to find the keyhole but when they found none, the rest of the company began to slam their weapons at the stone, the metal splintering.
“Stop it!” Sara finally yelled, “it’s sealed shut!”
“It cannot be opened by force,” Balin finished.
Slowly the sunlight began to fade and Thorin let out a cry. “NO!”
As he weakly muttered aloud the map’s instructions, Sara was tempted to tell him about the moon but never got the chance when Thorin turned his gold gaze on her.
“You! You knew this would happen but you led us on!?”
“Thorin,” Balin warned but Sara stood her ground.
“You never asked,” Sara hissed. “And for all you know, you might die tomorrow and I’m the only one who knows!”
She was glad Thorin was too angry to notice the shock in Sara’s eyes at her own words.
“You vixen!” Thorin growled as his eyes flared, “You don’t even want us to succeed! This is all part of your plan!”
“Trust me,” Sara snapped back, “If I could change history, I would make you never reclaim the mountain but as it happens, I cannot avoid this crisis! You’re lucky I am more worried about your life and line rather than a giant rock!”
Thorin made to snap back when Sara forcefully pointed at the sliver of moon that was appearing in the sky, “The sun is not the only form of light.”
All eyes but Thorin’s snapped from Sara to the moon and Bilbo squealed. “The last light! It’s the last moon! The light of the moon!” he cried, prancing around in joy.
At the hobbit’s words, Thorin finally looked away from Sara and his whole demeanor changed from angry and dark to hopeful and spirited. Sara bit her lip to hold back the tears as Thorin rushed over to look at the keyhole that Bilbo was joyfully pointing out. She felt a presence next to her and saw Balin standing there, joy and worry on his face.
“You alright lass?” he whispered, earning only a nod, “What you said about Thorin’s life and line…”
Sara sighed. Of course, Balin would notice that, “I’ll explain later… if there is a later.”
Just then, the door swung open with a thud and the company crowded forward to look upon their homeland. As Sara slipped in behind the others, she did not feel like a fangirl entering the Lonely Mountain, or the wife entering the home of her husband’s childhood… but rather like a rabbit knowing full well that she was entering the realm of dragons and lions… strange Lannister and Targaryen irony!
*******
‘I seriously miss nail polish,’ Sara thought to herself as she sat far enough from the edge in order to hide how high they really were, chewing her nails until she could see the puffy pink flesh beneath.
The whole company was sitting around, waiting for Bilbo to locate the Arkenstone. Thorin stood near the door, having not looked at Sara once since their argument earlier.
“Do you think he’s alright?” Ori asked when another loud thud sounded from within the mountain.
“Give him time,” Thorin muttered almost absent mindedly.
“Time for what? To be killed?” Balin muttered back.
Thorin turned his sights on the old dwarf angrily, “You’re afraid!”
“Yes, I’m afraid,” Balin said in a tone that dripped “duh!”.
“I fear for you! A sickness lies upon that treasure which drove your grandfather mad!”
“I am not my grandfather,” Thorin argued back.
Balin huffed, “You’re not yourself. The Thorin I know would not hesitated to go in there and…”
“I will not risk this quest for the life of one hobbit,” Thorin interrupted.
Balin frowned, “His name is Bilbo! And the Thorin I know would not go back on the vow he made to his One three days ago when he said he would love her above all things.”
When Thorin did not even give Balin a glance, the old dwarf walked to Sara and sat down next to her.
“Will we die from dragon fire?” he whispered to her.
Sara shook her head, “No one in the company will.”
“Then you should choose to take a very delayed relieving session,” Balin whispered.
Sara looked at him puzzled, “I am not going to abandon the company when you face a serpent that breathes fire!”
“You said no one in the company dies of fire but las… you were not in the original story till now. For all we know, you could be the exception.”
Sara sighed, “It will make me a coward.”
The dwarf shook his head, “Protecting yourself is not cowardice. You have spent months doing nothing but protecting others and putting yourself in danger in the process. Allow this one time to be selfish. Besides, you are not making the choice yourself. I am.”
The girl looked at Thorin and the door into the mountain. Truth be told, she did fear what lay within and Thorin probably wouldn’t notice her absence. Also, for all she knew, she might put the company in more danger if they tried to protect her while facing the beast.
“Fine,” she huffed. “But the moment it is over, I am looking for you guys.”
Balin smiled, “Fair enough.”
The girl sighed before standing up, “I am going down to relieve myself. Don’t wait for me.”
Thorin ignored her but the rest of the company nodded and almost smiled in relief, glad that there would be distance between their queen and the dragon. Sara purposely took her time as she climbed down the long steps, trying to not think about the height. When she finally reached the bottom, she looked up just in time to hear Dwalin and Balin yelling at Thorin to be careful. That meant that he was going into the mountain…. Oh no…
Sara looked around, wondering what she should do while waiting for the dragon to leave. She decided to make her way to the front entrance. That way she would know for sure when Smaug was gone and she would be able to find the others watching the Laketown attack from Dale.
***********
Sara wondered greatly where her brain had been the last few days since it obviously was not in her skull. When she had reached the tower of Dale that overlooked Laketown, she had just been in time to see Smaug’s fire rip through the village the first time. She nearly swallowed her tongue in horror when the screams of the villager’s reached her ears from across the lake. This was no movie… this was real… and there were real people dying!
Her brothers were there, trying to help gosh darn it! Oh Mahal, please let them, Fili, Kili, Oin and Bofur be alright! If anything happened to them, Sara would never forgive herself for taking her brothers into the car with her that fateful day! And Ruby, Estron, Zane, Grace… Deke and Rose… all of them! Would they survive this crisis!? Would she ever see them again!?
She shivered, deciding against joining the company at the top of the tower since it would only give her a better view to the disaster. She slumped to sit down on a nearby rock and was about to burst into tears when the horrid rotting smell of death, fire and dragon reached her nose and she lurched forward, almost face planting in a nearby bush as her breakfast poured out of her and into the leaves.
“Sara?” a soft voice asked from behind her.
She didn’t have to look to know that it was Balin and as another puking session rose up, the old dwarf rushed to her side to hold her short red curls out of her face.
“Lass…” he whispered, realization dawning on him when he realized that she had no fever.
“Oh Balin,” Sara teared up, wiping her mouth before sitting on the rock to burst into sobs, “Why now? I do know if Axel and Omar are okay…. Smaug is burning Laketown, Thorin hasn’t said my name in three days and all hell is gonna break loose in four days!”
Balin sighed as he sat down next to Sara, “It will be fine lass. But now this will make you have to rethink some of your choices. You aren’t just thinking of caring for one person now when you think of yourself.”
“Thorin had better not die on me now,” Sara muttered tearfully.
Balin’s eyes widened and when Sara gave him an earnest look, he knew the truth.
“In the real timeline…. Thorin dies…. He is killed.”
***********
Sara hated her bed chamber. No true sunlight reached through the windows and she woke up feeling like she lived under a rock… though she sort of did. She tried desperately to not ask Thorin anything unless he asked first in the hopes of eliminating how many times she had to see that sick look on his face and hear him snap at her. if it weren’t for the bundle of joy growing within her, she would gladly take his fury to lessen how much he picked on the others but Sara wasn’t avoiding confrontation to protect herself but the unborn babe within her.
Because of her desire to not spark a conversation with the king, Sara never brought up the subject of sleeping arrangements or rooms and Thorin never mentioned it so Sara found the bedroom that didn’t look like a dust home and took refuge there. she needed to make a plan to clean one of the rooms that allowed more light in.
Finding herself less nauseous than she was the day before, Sara got up and set about looking for something to eat. Her extra enhanced sense of smell thanks to the bairn led her down the corridors until she came upon the company who were all eating a meaty soup Bombur had prepared. She slumped down in a chair next to Dori and began to happily gobble down the soup and a piece of bread. When Gloin slid a pot of ale over to Dori, Sara stilled in her eating and tried desperately to not breathe in the musty scent of ale, having already puked twice in the past two days because of the stench it gave off. Apparently the baby didn’t like the smell of ale.
Balin noticed this and quickly handed her a mug full of herbal honey tea. Sara hovered her nose over the steam, breathing in the warm scent which drowned out the ale stench. Dwalin peered at the tea and raised an eyebrow, “Didn’t know ye were a tea drinker Lass.”
Sara shrugged, “I am not one usually.”
“Don’t tell me Thorin snapped at ye too!” Ori whispered.
The girl shook her head, “I have been successful at not bringing up a conversation with him in a few hours.”
Dwalin furrowed his brow thoughtfully, “You have been acting peculiar lass since the dragon fell. Is it Thorin!?”
“Half of him,” Sara muttered into her mug, earning a confused look from Dwalin and an amused grin from Balin.
“What do you mean by that?” the large dwarf inquired.
Sara peered at Balin as if waiting for him to say it but when the dwarf purposely took his time drinking his ale (Which he had finished long ago), Sara sighed.
“Promise to not tell Thorin?” she pleaded with the company.
Bombur almost choked on his soup, “You found the Arkenstone?”
Sara resisted the urge to laugh when she saw the horrified look on Bilbo’s face, mixed with confusion.
“No,” Sara murmured, “I am with child.”
The room got so quiet that one could hear a pin drop but no pin did any dropping…. Dwalin’s ale pot did though and the remaining contents poured all over the floor.
“You…. You’re…. with Bairn?” Gloin stammered out.
Sara nodded, not daring to meet anyone’s gaze. However when she did look up, she was met with almost a dozen wide grins. Bilbo soured across the room to scoop the girl into a tight hug, the rest of the company following suit.
“That is wonderful news!” Bilbo chirped, “You had me thinking something terrible had happened!”
When Sara’s demeanor didn’t brighten, everyone froze and Dwalin spoke, “Unless you don’t want the bairn, lass…”
“No I do!” Sara hastily assured them, “I have wanted a child for so long… it’s just…”
“The timing is not the best,” Balin finished, finally stepping in. “There is a war on the way and Thorin is… well… you know.”
Dori grumbled, “Thorin has no idea what he is missing out on.”
Sara hung her head, “Please don’t mention this to him please… if he finds out it might make him happy but for all we know, he might get angry….”
The company nodded and one by one assured the girl that they would keep her secret under lock and key.
“When do you suppose the bairn will be born?” Gloin asked, his excitement having resurfaced.
“Well, human pregnancies last for nine months but I’m barely a week and already having symptoms and I feel my body expanding… which seems odd.”
Balin nodded, “Dwarven pregnancies last for five months, lass. Because the bairn is both human and dwarf, the pregnancy time may be longer than usual or shorter. From the look of things and the fact that your appetite has spiked, it may be shorter.”
“Even more reason to keep you safe,” Dwalin said, “if the Bairn grows fast, Sara will be showing in no time and there will be no keeping it from Thorin. And if she is injured, both she and the bairn are at risk.”
All eyes turned to Sara at once to see the girl gnawing on her lip. She knew they would ask… but how could she tell them what she had planned without revealing too much.
“Do not tell Thorin this but the people of Laketown will seek refuge in Dale. When I get a chance, I will be going there. There needs to be space between myself and Thorin… I wish it didn’t look like I was running…”
“Not at all lass,” Gloin assured her with a pat to the head, “You are making the right choices for your child. Do what you see is fit and we will support you.”
Dwalin pursed his lips in thought, “Are ye sure ye will be safe in Dale lass? Ye said that a war is coming and Dale is not as fortified as Erabor.”
Sara nodded, “I am not going to Dale for safety from the war. I am going there to protect the baby from Thorin and to make sure that my brothers made it out of Laketown safe. They told me that they were going there to help with the attack. I lost them once and I wont do it again.”
“But Sara,” Nori interrupted, “Why are you leaving the most safe place? We could just send a message to Dale…”
Sara shook her head, “That is not the only reasons I have to leave…”
When she didn’t continue, Dwalin went to speak but she beat him to it.
“Nori… I need you to do something really important for me…without Thorin knowing.”
The dwarf tilted his head as Sara explained, “I need you to weave mithril into the coat that Thorin wears. He wears it when he goes to sleep but takes it off whenever he is in the treasure chamber. The navy blue one from Laketown.”
Nori nodded, “But why?’
Sara sighed and bit her lip, “To keep him from dying, should I fail.”

Pre-Game
The time is here, this post is going to explain everything that's going on in my pre-game verse; specifically put how different Saihara acts and I’m going to explain why he acts the way he does as best as I can. This will also be a form of a warning to those who want to have any form of relationship with pregame Saihara ( unless you’re like me and Michael and want to fucking die )
Disclaimer though that this contains spoilers for a lot if not at least a portion of NDRV.3, specifically Chapter 6. By no means am I saying this is the ‘canon’ alternative either, however, it is canon on my blog for this particular verse, and all events listed I’ll try and go into as much detail as I’m able to so it can hopefully make sense in NDRV.3′s canon timeline. There is also going to be talk about suicide and abuse in this
Before I begin I do want to give a shoutout to @chesskilled and @koibitsu for helping me develop this and just overall being my main motivations to complete this. I love u guys, thanks a bunch for helping me
For starters, we don’t know a whole lot about what happens to the cast in pre-game other than what we little we see of only 3 of them in Chapter 6. I don’t consider the prologue a good source of information because you can clearly see the differences in personality in not only in Saihara but Kaede as well. To explain things a little easier, Kaede still has her optimistic personality that she’s more known to having throughout the first chapter in prologue while how she acts in her audition video clearly is… anything but that. Monokuma has yelled to the Kubz about screwing up the memory process so while some things have stayed the same for everyone such as claiming they don’t have a talent, they have done their job in changing at least more than half of their personality already.
I’ll summarize what exactly pre-game is as best as I can. Pre-game is where supposedly hope takes control of despair and there isn’t a lot of major crime around like murder. This all has to do with ‘DANGANRONPA’ where people fight for survival on live TV for everyones’ joy and entertainment. It’s where people all across the globe love to see other other’s being treated as pawns, most of those pawns being that they willingly volunteered to be a part of the sick and twisted game. In a way, really there’s more despair than any actual sign of hope. And in some people’s eyes, they can see that. One of those people is Saihara himself.
Saihara views the world as nothing more than black and white. He is filled with so much distrust in not only in himself but the people around him. He sees them as ravage animals who are constantly going after blood, either to taste it or just to see the sight of it. His true opinion of the killing game is indifferent; it doesn’t involve him in any way, he isn’t a part of it, he doesn’t care. He doesn’t enjoy the thought of harming others however, and has a strong dislike for those that do. He keeps to himself more and doesn’t speak to anyone unless it's for something important like work. Everything around him is nothing but darkness. He feels alone in this said darkness and views his purpose is to die. There is nothing in this sad little world that he wants to be a part of, nothing that’s out there for him to gain, nothing out there that gives him a reason to live. There is no one he legitimately cares about. He goes to sleep every night hoping that he won’t wake up the next day. If he does it’ll be just another slow day where people talk about nothing but the next upcoming death in a stupid killing game. A day where he has to deal with people who never really care about him nor give him the time of day anyways. He has no true purpose in this world and he wants to get out of it. He’s just stuck in this darkness that was caused by not only the people around him but also himself and there is no way for him to get out of it.
He was forced to participate into the killing game. He was forced to make an audition video and forced to land in a place where death is around every corner. He lied on said audition video when he talked about being such a huge fan of it because due to the fact every single person on the planet loves the game he simply decided to join in the crowd. It isn’t until he talks about murdering someone that he starts to get excited. It isn’t until he talks about something that can lead to his own death that he starts to show interest. He does go off the rails quite a bit when he starts talking about the mastermind, but that’s mostly his own despair and adrenaline talking. One common thing masterminds have is how fueled and overcome they are by despair that they see no life especially their own as worthy and Saihara is no different. However his goal wasn’t take another life per se, his goal was to die. If he was going to be a part of this game, he realizes, then this could finally be his chance to die. He has planned executions for himself before. He has fantasized what his death would be and what it would feel like. He wants to die in the most satisfying and most gruesome way only ‘Danganronpa’ was capable of, and if he had to take a life in the process then so be it. Due to the fact that most of them have willingly volunteered to do this then he won’t care if they’re gone. They signed up for this. They were prepared for the consequences.
Saihara does have a talent, though it is an unconfirmed one, meaning, he is extremely well at what he does but he doesn’t view any of it as talent worthy. What he "does" exactly is detective work, though the small stuff like finding kids and pets. Him already being a detective or at the very least training to be one is why he said he wanted to be an Ultimate Detective in the first place. He doesn't explain why he wants to have that title, if you want to use the "a detective hasn’t been a blackened before" as a reason that just further proves my previous theory that he's suicidal and all he wants to do is to die in that game. Him wanting to be the Ultimate Detective is the best role for him since he has read about cases of murders and he knows how to solve them, what better way to die than to plan the perfect murder and then get executed in the process.
He doesn’t even expect himself to win the game, most of his focus was on his own death and how it could happen.
If Saihara finds a reason to live, would he be better? Saihara is lonely and scared of the dark world he lives in. He thinks no one would ever care about him and there would be no one for him to trust because everyone is lowkey at each other's throats. He craves the feeling of wanting to feel alive again. He hates waking up every day and the first thought on his mind is ‘how can I die today’. He craves the “good feeling” he notices most people have; the feeling of being cared of, of being happy to being alive, of knowing that someone is supporting and wanting them to be alive. The good feeling is something he desires most, almost as much as his desire to finally stop breathing. But because he’s convinced that that good feeling would never come he decides to stick in his spot surrounded by darkness until Death finally decides to pay a visit.
And once that good feeling finally comes, he will do anything to prevent it from leaving.
Say this “good feeling” came from a person. He would constantly be around them and giving them gifts to ensure they think he likes them. He doesn’t give much thought in their personal space so chances are he would be right outside their house or wherever they live waiting for them either just to hang around them or give them another gift. He would be as close to them as he possibly can and make sure they keep safe. He would lie to them about their friends and family, throwing claims that only he truly cares about them and everyone else is plotting their demise. He would try and keep them far away from others and spat lies about anyone they think is a good person. He would use the fact that he’s involved with police work as an advantage and as a reason for them to trust his word more over someone else’s. He would go as far as to lie that someone they know has past offenses to show they’re actually dangerous. It would escalate to him preventing them for going outside for too long, and eventually keeping them trapped altogether. He would claim that he’s doing this for their own good, because he’s the only one that cares, because he knows what’s best, because he is the only one they can rely on. He would threaten suicide if he ever finds out they’re thinking about leaving. He would point out that there is no one else left out there who would put up with them and take them in. He would point out that everyone around them is a liar and dangerous and no one would actually care about them. He would die if the “good feeling” leaves.
In reality, he doesn’t care about the other person. He only cares about the “good feeling” they give off. He’s more in love and obsessed with the “good feeling” instead of the person themselves. He is purposely tying them up with strings and pulling them down for his own personal gain. He does not care about the person themselves and only cares about the good good feeling. He does not care about them. He will act as nice and caring as he can to the person, doing a lot to take care of his special little toy, while also doing everything he can to keep them with him and prevent them from running away. He only pretends to lure them closer into his own little trap.
Why he acts this way is more out of desperation and fear. He doesn’t view the things he does as anything bad, he believes he’s saying the truth when it comes to talking about how the people around them are nothing more than animals wanting to kill. He doesn’t view the things he does as pure abuse because he doesn’t see it, because he isn’t harming them. He would never resort to physical abuse. He would never want to actually hurt them. He thinks this would cause the “good feeling” to “break” and they would run away. He views them as a fragile comfort object that he doesn’t ever want to crack, because that would mean the chances of the “good feeling” going away would increase. He doesn’t see that he’s breaking them mentally, nor does he actually care. They’re not leaving, and that’s what matters to him most. That is, until the “good feeling” dies away, if it ever does. That will be one he views them as another disgusting person that he can’t trust and abandons them. They will be, in his eyes, a worn out toy that needs to be thrown away and forgotten about.
I’m not here to say this excuses his actions. I’m not here to say that the things he does are good things. I’m not here to say give him pity points and forgive him because boohoo he’s lonely. There is no “love” involved towards his victims. I’m here to say that he is an abuser.
The point of pre-game is where the students’ “true colors” are shown and what they were like before their personalities have been altered for the sake of the game. So the Saihara we all know and love would of course be drastically different from pre-game. Despite this there are some similarities; both have low self confidence in themselves, both are pretty depressed ( one however being worse than the other ), both have a deep wanting to be loved and cared about, and both are more on the quiet and reserved side. There is however one huge similarity that they have in common.
Lying.
During the trials we see that Saihara is actually a good liar, not as great as Kokichi but a good enough one to fool most if not all of his classmates. He’s able to analyze the situation and twist not only certain scenarios but the words people have said before to create something entirely different than what actually happened and make it believable. Unlike Pre-game however this more for everyone’s sake and to continue the trial forward with more answers that possibly came up because of his lying and get closer to figuring out whodunnit. Unlike pre-game, he feels some form of guilt because of this lying. Lying is more of a last resort to him. Lying is something that he seems to be used to doing, something he probably doesn’t realize. Where he got this sort of practice from isn’t clear. He could have just always carried this skill that came in naturally and hasn’t found a use for it until the trials. But it could also be something that’s been carried over from this alternate personality.
Saihara would put everyone before himself, especially a person he cares about, while pregame Saihara never truly cares about anyone else and only the “good feeling” a person or something can give. Saihara would want the people he cares about to be happy even if it means separation between the two, pregame Saihara cares for no one and would stop at nothing to make sure his comfort object stays no matter what. Saihara sees both despair and hope in the world, pregame Saihara sees no hope in anything and and keeps the mindset that the world will be nothing but filled with despair. Saihara, in general, is a very caring and compassionate person who wants to help others. Pregame Saihara is none of those.
Again, this is something you don’t have to fully agree with. But I explained for the most part how this pre-game verse is going to be handled on this blog as best as I can. Pre-game Saihara is, by a lot of accounts, dangerous.

Thank God the day following that event was a Saturday, otherwise he'd have to shamefully face the two hearts he managed to break in one day.
Jaebum rolled around in his bed, hugging on the blankets, mumbling incoherently to himself. He felt like absolute garbage. Seeing that his alarm clock read 10:37, he slumped out of bed and dragged himself down to the bathroom. The house was empty as usual, meaning he could totally throw a party that night. If, you know, he didn't feel like dying. As he squirted some toothpaste onto his toothbrush and madly scrubbed his pearly whites, he groaned as he stared at himself in the mirror. He knew he was a good looking guy whose looks would attract mostly every gal or guy. After rinsing out his mouth, he smacked some water across the mirror and blurred the reflection of his sad-looking self. For once, he wished he was ugly. Jaebum tiredly zombie-walked his way over to the kitchen, checking the fridge for any food that possibly could've been left for him. Seeing that it was empty except for some eggs and milk, he already knew that his plans would be to go out for both lunch and dinner. Opening a cupboard, he grabbed a box of fruity cereal and dumped it into a ceramic bowl, pouring milk in after doing so. His dear cat, Nora, crawled up to his feet and rubbed herself against the skin lovingly. "At least you're here," he muttered under his breath, slurping some milk from his bowl as he made his way to the couch. He turned on the television and stared dully at the skin, allowing his pet to crawl onto his lap and rest there. Realizing that he hadn't checked his phone in a while, Jaebum reached for it since it was laying on the coffee table. He turned it on, only to be met with over a hundred missed text messages. annoyed, he unlocked his phone and saw that a particular someone added him to a chat group overnight after he fell asleep, which was the main cause of the overload of messages. He squinted at his screen while he scrolled through the messages. It took him a while to realize that those numbers were familiar to him: Jackson Wang, Park Jinyoung, and Choi Youngjae. The last message was sent a few hours ago, so he didn't bother sending anything to indicate that he read the chat. He put down his bowl of breakfast and became invested into the conversation they were having, feeling more and more uneasy. Nora jumped onto the table and quietly drank some of the milk as Jaebum's foot tapped in anxiousness. wango, 2 others [jype]: i'm muting this chat btw [wango]: bro I just want u to listen to my proposal [c.youngjae]: why do you even have my number?? Jaebum instantly realized the doom he was about to face.
"No, no, no, no, no!" He literally screamed at his phone, trying to do everything to prevent Youngjae from knowing.
It was probably too late.

[c.youngjae]: let's meet up at three and talk
[jaybee]: i'll be there
[jaybee]: i won't be late.

His phone read 2:57 by the time he spotted Jaebum. He was standing right outside the promised cafe, scrolling through his own phone with his legs crossed. It surprised Youngjae to see that he was wearing a pair of wire-rimmed glasses and an oversized sweater, contrary to his usual attire of trendy clothes that showed off his nice build. He looked pretty hot, to be honest. Youngjae shook that thought out of his mind and approached Jaebum, acting as though he wasn't just staring at him a minute prior. "It isn't 3 yet," Youngjae said quietly, stuffing his hands into his hoodie. "I've been here for ten minutes. I just didn't want to be late," Jaebum replied with a tiny grin as if he wanted the younger's approval. Youngjae scoffed and went ahead into the building, ruining the other's plans of opening the door for him. They went up to the counter, both of them staring at the menu in a similar way. Both of their eyes twitched, cursing at Jackson mentally. "I'm glad Jinyoung decided not to come," Jaebum whispered to the other, faking a smile for the person behind the cash register. "Welcome to Cafe A, one of the first couples' cafe in this town," she smiled enthusiastically, probably a bit overwhelmed on the inside because she had two male customers coming together in her hands. Youngjae hid his face into a hand in embarrassment, and Jaebum wanted to die on the spot. "Would you like to order our monthly special 'love potions?'" she asked, pointing to the piece of paper on the counter. "No," Youngjae and Jaebum said simultaneously. Flustered because of how rude that sounded, Jaebum laughed sheepishly and shook his head. "I'll just have an iced Americano. And, Youngjae..." Youngjae squinted at the menu above them, saying, "I'll have some water." Jaebum's face abruptly switched to one of shock, nudging the younger gently with his elbow. 'Eat,' he mouthed. Youngjae grumbled, feeling like he was just scolded by his mother. "Nevermind. I'll have a melon smoothie." "Alright. that will be ₩6,500." His hand reached into his pocket to grab his wallet, but the taller Jaebum stopped him before he could go any further. Instead, he took out his own wallet and paid using a card. Youngjae squinted his eyes at the other. I bet he just wanted to show off. Stupid seniors. "Thank you. Please come to pick up your order once this starts to buzz," she said while handing over the circular device to Youngjae, who almost dropped it.To the surprise of both, she leaned forward and gestured for them to come closer. "The third floor is popular with... couples like you two," she whispered with a grin. Both boys shook their heads, trying to insist that they weren't that sort of couple. She didn't listen, only grinning happily. 'You guys are so cute!' she mouthed while making a thumbs up, leaving the two speechless as they searched for a table. "Maybe we should go to the third floor," Youngjae was heard mumbling. "But we're not a couple, unfortunately," Jaebum remarked, putting emphasis on the last word to express that he really did think it was unfortunate. "I mean, I'd be more than happy if we were, but-" "The people here are staring at us." Youngjae gestured with a subtle tilt of his chin, completely ignoring what the other had to say. It was true, though; quite a few of the other couples enjoying their food seemed to be whispering at the two. Jaebum scoffed and marched towards the staircase, Youngjae following quickly to avoid any more odd gazed from anyone there. As promised by the girl at the cash register, the third floor was filled with... ...gay. Youngjae's eyes couldn't ignore the variety(?) of couples that were there, enjoying their time together. At one table in the corner, there was someone resembling a llama sitting across from someone who appeared like a girl. He couldn't tell, that person just had long hair. At the opposite side of the room, he spotted a couple that consisted of someone narrow-eyed with bright mint hair, nodding at his partner, who had a radiant smile, while he ranted. At another table they passed by were two people who didn't stand out in particular except that they seemed to be speaking completely in Chinese. Beside their table were two rather young looking guys, the foreign-looking one teaching his partner how to say simple words in English. "I don't think there are any open tables, hyung..." Youngjae remarked with a pout after searching around the room. Jaebum nodded, thinking that they might end up having to sit outside or something. Just then, someone tapped his arm. he turned around to see two rather tall guys sitting at the table nearby, one of them looking highly emo. "Are you looking for a table? Ae can just move our stuff, there's space for you guys," the person who tapped his arm offered, his canine teeth showing as he smiled. "Oh, sure. Thank you." Once the other guys moved their belongings, Youngjae took the seat that was on the cushiony couch and Jaebum sat on the chair. "Are you guys from JYP high?" the person asked, sipping on his ice coffee. Jaebum nodded, leaning back while putting an arm over the chair in an assertive way. "We're from Pledis," he replied, making Jaebum go “Ooh.” No wonder they were wearing nice clothes and looked as though they had their hair done professionally. Although Pledis was a small school, it was a costly place to attend and its students sure did prove that. "God, I would've screamed if you guys were from SM." Almost everyone in the room quieted down when hearing that name as though it was a taboo. SM's school had the roughest teachers and classes by far, and its roughness most likely rubbed off on its students. The device Youngjae held flashed red lights out of nowhere and started buzzing, startling him. Jaebum took it from his hand and headed downstairs in order to grab their drinks. Once he was gone, the high-key emo person who hadn't said a thing leaned over to Youngjae. "Your boyfriend's hot," he said quietly. Youngjae's face flashed a bright pink. "He's not my boyfriend! I'm not dating him," he argued and pouted again. "Really? I think he likes you from the way he looks at you, though," the person sitting across said with a wiggle of his eyebrows. "What's his name?" "Im Jaebum." Someone dropped their fork in the distance as the person almost choked on his straw. "That's... him? He's Im Jaebum?" he asked, clearly as confused as Youngjae was. someone a few tables next to them whispered, “Holy shit, that was Im Jaebum?” "Yes?" Youngjae tilted his head, not understanding what all the fuss was about. "Goodness," he sighed while shaking his head. "He's a literal legend at Pledis." Youngjae's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean by that?" "How do you, his boyfriend, not know about this?" he fanned himself with his hand, accidentally hitting himself in the face. Embarrassed, he cleared his throat. "Anyway, the Pledis legend. Im Jaebum. He used to go to Pledis for his freshman year, I think. But somehow, he ended up becoming the school's first ever student to be full on expelled." Youngjae's mouth dropped when hearing this. He wasn't even sure if his best friends Jinyoung or Jackson knew about this. "One of the biggest idol companies—you know, the ones with idol groups and all that—scouted him during his freshman year, right on our campus. The story about that flew all over school and he became a living legend. Everyone wanted to his friend." "How come you didn't recognize him earlier if he's that well known?" Youngjae asked in a dazed tone, not quite able to wrap his head around all the information he just absorbed. "Are you kidding me? He used to be one of the shortest guys in the class. He had mushroom hair and wore huge glasses every day." "Okay..." Youngjae peered over to the staircase to see if was Jaebum was back or not. He wanted to hear more of the details, wishing he wouldn't be back for another five minutes. "Well, why was he expelled?" "There was this group of seniors that made fun of him a lot, and I guess he was just fed up with him," he explained with a shrug, shaking around his cup. "What did he do?" "He poisoned them." That was the point where Youngjae didn't believe the story anymore. "No, that's stupid—" "He baked them a nice batch of cookies that made them vomit the next day. They told the principal on him," the boy paused in order to snap his fingers, "and just like that, he was gone." Youngjae was speechless, only his eyes blinking as the rest of his body was frozen. He was so confused, mostly because he couldn't believe that someone who seemed genuinely kind like the 'Def Soul' person he knew would do such thing. At the staircase, he could see a glimpse of Jaebum walking up with two cups in his hands. "Are you afraid that he'll do something like that again?" the person asked. "If you are, I don't think you should be. I can tell his attitude has changed a lot since freshman year, and he's probably trying to get a fresh start." Jaebum sat back down in his seat across from the still shocked Youngjae. He waved his hand in front of him, wondering if he was even alive. "Yah, Im Jaebum!" the person smacked his arm out of nowhere. “What—ah, shit," Jaebum cursed under his breath once he realized that that person currently attended pledis, the place of his unforgettable past. "I can't believe it's actually you. hey, i'm mingyu. remember me?" Jaebum's eyes widened as though he was reminded of something unpleasant, but he played it cool and sighed. "Yes, yes, I do. What do you want?" The one sitting across from mingyu tapped his watch, indicating something about time. He nodded his head and hurriedly threw on his jacket, grabbing his things. "Sorry, I would talk more but there's something I have to do." Before he left the table, he leaned down towards Jaebum's ear and whispered softly.
“Don't break that cutie's heart, okay?”

Morien and Kiyoshi C-S Support
Until I get a new laptop and photoshop, I’ll try to make Hubba Tester like drawings that describe the character’s C-Support. Morien belongs to @twistedkat17 and you guys should definitely check her out.
C-Support:
Morien: Hey, Kiyoshi. I hope you don't mind, but I need to talk to you.
Kiyoshi: *Straight Face* Hmm, is there something you need?
Morien: Yes. I couldn't help but notice how you ignored one of our regimens
Kiyoshi: Unless they ask for help, I won't provide any more than I need to. I've already done more than enough.
Morien: Couldn't you see they were struggling with that last battle?
Kiyoshi: I admit, I did, but if the enemies got any further then I would've intervened, but it looked like they were doing okay.
Morien: I had to heal several major wounds that day! If the enemy went any further, we would have lost some comrades
Kiyoshi: But we didn't, and I think that's an accomplishment on its own.
Morien: *looking flustered* Just promise me next time if you see this happening again, you'll help them.
Kiyoshi: Don't worry, I'm not a fan of death. No matter how much I dislike anyone.
Morien: good. I'm glad we had this talk the
Kiyoshi: I'm glad too. Nice to see you speak up for once.
Morien: I speak up all the time. You just have to listen to hear it
Kiyoshi: Okay you caught me with that one. I only pay attention if it matters to me
Morien: *scowls* I've noticed that. Well, I must be off. I've got salves to replace.
Kiyoshi: *Smirk* I somehow managed to piss her off.
B-Support:
Morien: *displeased face* Kiyoshi. I need to speak with you again
Kiyoshi: *Sighs* What is it this time?
Morien: I think you know why I'm here.
Kiyoshi: Look, I made sure to keep watch. I wasn't going to help unless they have a possibility of dying.
Morien: Several of our soldiers are on bed rest in the medical tent because of major injuries!
Kiyoshi: You don't think I know that. I'm not clueless.
Morien: Yet you refused to help them
Kiyoshi: Yes, it'll bring them down a peg or two.
Morien: How dare you say that?!
Kiyoshi: It's annoying how much you stand up for them. I've seen what they've said, and I know things they've done. Yet you still defend them to their very core.
Morien: I defend them because they are just like you and me. We are all fighting for the same cause, but you don't seem to really care for anyone but yourself
Kiyoshi: Maybe if I weren't forced into this army then I would. But as you said I only care about myself and for my freedom to get away after the war is over!
Morien: If that is the way you view things, I guess you won't be needing my help.
Kiyoshi: Am I stopping you? Do whatever you want, I don't really care.
Morien: Fine then *leaves*
Kiyoshi: ... I really need to get myself together.

Kiyoshi: Ugh..dammit. Gah..I try to be a good guy for once, and I get stabbed in my right leg.
Kiyoshi: I have to call her. Can't stall any longer. Morien.
Morien: Hang in there soldier
Soldier: You're too kind
Morien: Just hold on till u get you some medics
Kiyoshi: ... (He needs her help first. Agh... at least he's one of the nicer ones.)
Morien: *Vanished with soldier then walks past Kiyoshi*
Kiyoshi: ... ugh (No, it was my fault. I can't do this. But the axe it came swinging down when I pushed the soldier away.) Gah... it hurts. Kiyoshi: (Should I crawl and get a salve.)
*Screen fades*
Kiyoshi: Hah, hah, I almost reached the salves.
Morien: Kiyoshi. You look pitiful like this. *grabs salve and begins tending to his leg*
Kiyoshi: So you..ack.. saw me.
Morien: yes. Clear as day
Kiyoshi: *Actually flustered* Hah, It was embarrassing. I'm..ugh.. a samurai who couldn't...ouch..dodge that weak swing.
Morien: you saved the life of another, though.
Morien: You did something for another for once
Kiyoshi: I guess you can say that. Ugh...I'm not sure if my leg agrees with my decision. I know I kept pushing you to your limits and I tried understanding the other soldiers. Whether it's my resentment against the Hoshidian Royals that clouded my vision, but I realize that each soldier isn't is bad as I thought they were. I hate admitting, so I'm not saying more than that.
Morien: *smiles* So you don't hate others now. That's good news to hear. I was beginning to worry there was no helping you.
Kiyoshi: Haha, I guess my words are coming to bite me in the back. It's kind of ironic. Yeah, I suppose I'm more accepting but it doesn't mean I'll get along with everyone, but I'll help even if it's someone like Saizo.
Morien: Things happen in our lives that we struggle to deal with every day, whether it is fighting for your freedom or fighting your fears... *body language changes* Morien: *changes back* I'm sure things will get better as time goes on
Kiyoshi: *Sad smile as he picks up the change* It is this war it teaches us so much yet while also taking or breaking things of ours. Look I'm no good with feelings a lot, but I'll listen if you have any problems. You're one of the nicer ones here, and I hope to help.
Morien: I just... wish I could be stronger like you...
Morien: *wet-eyed* if I were stronger, I could actually help in the fight... I could push back to the enemy.. I could make my family proud by winning the war instead of hiding in the back lines, watching as people die for this cause...
Kiyoshi: Stronger? You're already much stronger than me. You always take charge and help whoever is in need which takes a lot because there are so many soldiers in need. You save more lives and prevent deaths. It's much harder to be a weaponless fighter in war, and it takes more bravery to be a healer. You can also be true to yourself while I hide behind a cowardly mask called pride. So never call yourself weak because all of us soldiers depend on you.
Morien: ....*starts crying* Th-Thank you
Kiyoshi: It's okay you don't have to thank me. I was once in your position, it killed me when I couldn't become a ninja. But everyone has their own potential and so do you. So don't doubt yourself because you are one heck of a healer.
Morien: *smiles* you know... you're not as selfish as you think you are, Kiyoshi.
Kiyoshi: I am when it comes to desires and my goals, but it pains me when I see people down because they feel that they aren't capable. I suppose because it reminds me of myself. But thanks for giving me a chance.
Morien: I see you as a friend, Kiyoshi. I'm going to help you no matter what. The chances were free *smiles again*

AKiyoshi: Morien, there you are. I thought I'd find you here in the infirmary.
Morien: Hello, Kiyoshi. I actually just finished up my rounds here. Everyone seems to be well-rested.
Kiyoshi: I suppose that's good. I'm glad we aren't heading out anytime soon. That last battle was a harsh one. I still can't believe I didn't get any major injuries.
Morien: I told you I'd be there to help you.
Kiyoshi: I have you to thank. I feel much safer knowing you are there to help.
Morien: Oh, it's nothing. I'm just doing my job.
Kiyoshi: *Smile* True, but there's also something else about you that eases me during battle.
Morien: Oh? What would that be?
Kiyoshi: *Blushes* That a person I love is near and I can protect and be protected. I feel safe yet also I can always be reminded that I have another reason for fighting in this war and...uh I really do like you. You can reject me I swear I'm not going to overreact.
Morien: *blushes* Do... Do you really feel that way?
Kiyoshi: *Blushes* (Be confident) Yes, I don't like a lot of people but to even feel something like love it's even rarer. I really do love you, and if you want, I'd like us to be more than friends.
Morien: I'm happy to hear you say that. I was worried my feelings were going to be one-sided for a while.
Kiyoshi: (My heart beats very fast.. I wonder how much is too much) I can't really believe that you'd even fall for someone like me. Heh, maybe I'm not that bad. But I do hope you're ready because it's not going to be an easy road in this war from now. But I'll make sure that we both get through this.
Morien: For you, I'd brave anything. I feel stronger by your side, and bolder. No matter what you do, I'll always be here
Kiyoshi: Maybe war can bring about new things. Morien, you gave me so many chances when I would let soldiers fend for themselves. Changing me for the better and even helping me. As your lover, I'll make sure to not only repay the favor but to always keep you safe.

May resignation rumours: Brexiteer Tory rebels will now fall into line
The Prime Minister faced the Commons today as she hinted that she could try for a third vote on her deal either tomorrow or on Friday and didn’t knock back claims she could soon announce her departure
A fiery Theresa May today faced down MPs in the Commons and hinted she could hold a third vote on her deal as early as tomorrow, amid rumours she will enter a resignation pact with Tory rebels who would then cave in and back her Brexit deal.
The Prime Minister has been told to her face that for Brexiteers including Boris Johnson to support her deal she will need to promise Tory MPs she will quit before the second stage of EU talks begin later this year – and at PMQs she gave a spirited performance but refused to rule out stepping down when challenged.
If her deal gets the support of a majority of MPs before the end of this week Britain will leave the EU on May 22, if it does not the country faces weeks of chaos as rebel Remainers try to force a soft Brexit in votes starting tonight.
And in a sign the deal could be voted on again tomorrow or Friday, Mrs May told MPs during Prime Minister’s Questions today that they could deliver on Brexit ‘if this week this House supports the deal’.
Today senior Brexiteer Cabinet minister Andrea Leadsom did little to quell the rumours of Mrs May’s demise after her Brexit deal passes and said: ‘I am fully supporting the Prime Minister to get us out of the EU. What happens after that is a matter for the Prime Minister. I’m not going to express a view.’
And as more rebel Brexiteer Tories indicated this morning that they will climb down and back May, Leave campaign architect Dominic Cummings attacked ‘narcissist delusional’ ERG members stopping the PM getting the votes she needs.
In an extraordinary blogpost he said during the 2016 referendum campaign ‘so many of you guys were too busy shooting or skiing or chasing girls to do any actual work’. He added: ‘You should be treated like a metastasising tumour and excised’.
However the rebel climbdown could all come to nothing because the DUP, who May also needs to support her deal, show no signs of coming onboard.
Jacob Rees-Mogg today urged other hardline Eurosceptics to back Mrs May or face losing Brexit with 20 or more hardcore Brexiteers including Boris Johnson ready to swing behind her if she agrees to quit tonight.
Backbencher Robert Courts, a member of the ERG’s Star Chamber, is the latest to cave with sources claiming the trickle of U-turns could become ‘a flood’.
He said: ‘I will reluctantly back the PM’s deal. The hard reality is that this deal, for all its faults, is now the only available route out of the EU and to deliver on our promises. With renewed focus the ultimate prize is still achievable in future relationship talks’.
What PM needs to edge to victory… by just 2 votes. There are 235 Tory loyalists, 10 switchers, 30 who with back the deal if May quits, 10 DUP supporters and 24 Labour
These are the seven options for Brexit MPs could vote on this week if Mrs May is forced towards a softer Brexit
A KEY WEEK FOR BREXIT
WEDNESDAY MARCH 27: MPs HOLD INDICATIVE VOTES ROUND ONE:
MPs are set to hold the ‘first round’ vote choosing their preferred Brexit from options including Norway, a Customs Union, May’s Deal and No Deal. They will most likely be able to choose more than one option at this stage, and will write their preferences on pink slips of paper rather than walking through lobbies in the traditional Commons voting method. The top options would then be put forward to another ’round two’ vote.
COULD STILL HAPPEN THURSDAY MARCH 28: MAY HOLDS A THIRD MEANINGFUL VOTE ON HER BREXIT DEAL:
May is likely to try and pass her Brexit deal a third time, after the EU offered a Brexit date of 22 May if she does so this week. The Prime Minister will use threats that MPs will take control and force a softer Brexit in an attempt to force Brexiteer rebels and the DUP to finally back her. She may also offer them a date when she will quit in return for their support. Thursday is the most likely day for her vote, but there is a chance she won’t hold it if she still does not believe she’ll win.
FRIDAY MARCH 29: MPs TAKE CONTROL?
If the PM loses a third vote on her deal, or does not hold one, by Friday the Brexit date is reset until April. MPs and Remainer Cabinet ministers will try and force her towards a softer Brexit. Brexiteer MPs and Cabinet minister will conversely try and push her towards a No Deal exit from the EU. Minister have also claimed that they could call an election if MPs try to force them into a soft Brexit.
MONDAY APRIL 1: INDICATIVE VOTES ROUND TWO:
MPs are expected to rank their preferences for Brexit. When one option is knocked out, MPs second preferences will be counted. For example if a second referendum is knocked out, its supporters can switch to backing a soft Brexit. Parliament would agree to support the final option.
WEDNESDAY APRIL 3: MPs COULD FORCE MAY’S HAND:
If Theresa May refuses to accept MPs preferred Brexit option, they could try to pass new legislation compelling her to do so.
Mr Rees-Mogg admits that his change of heart will prompt accusations of treachery from some of his followers but told them: ‘Half a loaf is better than no bread’.
Chief whip Julian Smith reportedly believes that Mrs May announcing her departure will lead to 20 or more rebels could be ready to switch sides while former minister Iain Duncan Smith is said to be hoping to broker the resignation deal and said last night: ‘There is a pretty good chance the deal is going to get through’.
Tonight MPs will try to grab the levers of power and push Britain towards a softer Brexit by voting on alternatives to Theresa May’s deal and today the rebellion’s architect Sir Oliver Letwin said the Commons will change the law to force the PM to implement their views.
Former Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell said today: ‘Oliver Letwin has played a blinder. My friends and colleagues in the ERG can see the instruments of torture laid out in front of them. Oliver has shown them what will happen if they don’t come on side. Finally Mrs May has most of us on side on her deal, and with a following wind she will get her deal this week or early next week’.
Mrs May will address a meeting of the backbench 1922 Committee tonight and is expected to be asked to announce her departure date by disgruntled MPs.
But she is yet to convince the DUP to back her deal – and without their 10 MPs her deal has little-or-no chance of passing because of the 25-plus Labour rebels she would need to bail her out.
Asked how talks are going with the DUP, Mrs Leadom said: ‘We are working very hard’.
Conservative MP Daniel Kawczynski tweeted: ‘Have urged some friends in DUP to abstain over Withdrawal Agreement if they cannot support it. That way we could still just about get it across finishing line. We must prevent Remainer Parliament from destroying #Brexit.’
Mr Rees-Mogg’s intervention came as the number of Eurosceptics reluctantly backing Mrs May threatened to turn from a trickle into a flood.
Writing in the Daily Mail, he says fellow Leavers have to face the ‘awkward reality’ that Remainers will thwart the 2016 referendum result unless the EU withdrawal agreement is passed.
But he says the Prime Minister’s plan is now the only way to ensure Britain leaves the EU and wrote: ‘I apologise for changing my mind. By doing so I will be accused of infirmity of purpose by some and treachery by others. I have come to this view because the numbers in Parliament make it clear that all the other potential outcomes are worse and an awkward reality needs to be faced.’
Who could replace Theresa May?
Here are the top runners and riders to replace the Prime Minister, their odds with Ladbrokes and how they voted in the 2016 referendum:
Michael Gove 4/1
Michael Gove’s odds have shortened in recent days
Leading Vote Leave figure in 2016 who now backs PM’s Brexit deal
Former journalist, 51, who stood for leadership in 2016
Was sacked as education minister by Theresa May
Later returned as Environment Minister
A Brexiteer with a machiavellian reputation after the 2016 leadership campaign in which he first supported Boris Johnson for the leadership and then stood against him, to their mutual disadvantage.
The former education secretary – sacked by Mrs May – was rehabilitated to become a right-on environment secretary – complete with reusable coffee cups and a strong line on food standards after Brexit.
Despite being a former lead figure in the Vote Leave campaign alongside Mr Johnson the former journalist and MP for Surrey Heath has swung behind Mrs May’s Brexit deal.
At the weekend he denied being involved in a coup seeking to make him a caretaker PM.
Seen as one of the Cabinet’s strongest political thinkers and having stood once it is unthinkable that he would not stand again.
Boris Johnson 4/1
Boris Johnson is very popular with the Tory grassroots
Former foreign secretary and mayor of London
Voted leave and has become an increasingly hardline Brexiteer
As likely to make headlines over his private life
Has recently lost a lot of weight and smartened up his appearance
The former foreign secretary who quit last July and has been tacitly campaigning for the leadership ever since returning to the backbenches with a regular stream of attacks on Mrs may and her Brexit strategy.
Never far from the limelight it is his private life that has seen him most in the news recently after splitting from his wife Marina and embarking on a relationship with a former Conservative communications staffer 20 years his junior.
A hawkish Brexiteer hugely popular with the party faithful, in recently weeks he has further boosted his frontrunner credentials with what might be deemed a ‘prime ministerial’ makeover.
He has lost weight and taming his unruly mop of blonde hair into something approaching the haircut of a serious senior statesman.
Jeremy Hunt 8/1
Jeremy Hunt backed Remain in 2016 but has undergone a conversion to the Brexit cause
The Foreign Secretary voted Remain
But has become an increasingly vocal Brexiteer
Backs May’s deal
Has approached ministers about running as a unity candidate
The Foreign Secretary who has undergone a Damascene conversion to the Brexit cause in with a series of hardline warnings to the EU.
The 52-year-old South West Surrey MP is the most senior Cabinet minister in contention.
He has reportedly been selling himself to colleagues as a unity candidate who can bring together the fractious Tory factions into something approaching a cohesive party.
A long-serving health secretary, he replaced Mr Johnson as the UK’s top diplomat and has won some plaudits over issues like the imprisonment of British mother Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe in Iran.
But critics point to tub-thumpingly comparing the EU to the USSR at the party conference last year – which was very badly received in Brussels – and a gaffe in which he referred to his Chinese wife as ‘Japanese’ as a reception in China.
Dominic Raab 10/1
The former Brexit Secretary is now a Theresa May critic
Shortlived Brexit secretary last year, replacing David Davis in the hot seat
But walked in November over terms agreed by PM
Voted for Brexit in 2016
Mr Raab, 45, is another Vote Leave member who became Brexit secretary after David Davis quit alongside Mr Johnson last July over the Chequers plan.
But he lasted just a matter of months before he too jumped ship, saying he could not accept the terms of the deal done by the Prime Minister.
Like Mr Johnson and Mr Davis he has become an increasingly hardline Brexiteer, sharing a platform with the DUP’s Arlene Foster and suggesting we should not be afraid of a no-deal Brexit.
The Esher and Walton MP’s decision to quit in November, boosted his popularity with party members but he lacks the wider popular appeal of Mr Johnson.
And like Mr Johnson he might benefit from having quit the Cabinet at an earlier stage and dissociating himself with the dying days of the May administration.
Sajid Javid 12/1
Sajid Javid has kept a relatively low profile throughout the Brexit chaos
The most senior cabinet contender
Voted Remain but wants to see Brexit delivered
Faced criticism as Home Secretary
But has taken a hard line on Shamima Begum case
The Home Secretary, a Remainer who wants to see Brexit delivered, was the leading candidate from inside the Cabinet to replace Mrs May.
After replacing Amber Rudd last year he consciously put clear ground between himself and the Prime Minister on issues like caps on skilled migrants after Brexit.
But his credentials have taken a hit in recent weeks. He finds himself facing ongoing criticism of his handling of the knife crime crisis affecting UK cities, which sparked a cabinet row over funding for police.
He also lost face over his handling of the influx of migrants crossing the English Channel in January, being seen to move slowly in realising the scale of the problem.
But more recently the 49-year-old Bromsgove MP has made a serious of hardline decision designed to go down well with Tory voters.
Most notably they have included moving to deprive London teenager turned Jihadi bride Shamima Begum, 19, of her British citizenship.
Seven Conservative MPs who voted against her plan earlier this month yesterday said they were changing their minds.
And last night Boris Johnson gave the strongest hint yet that he could also fall into line, saying: ‘If we vote it down again there is an appreciable and growing sense we will not leave at all. That is the risk.’
Former Tory leader and Eurosceptic Iain Duncan Smith said last night there was now a good chance of Mrs May winning the ‘meaningful’ vote.
The official Leave campaign director has today threatened to set up a new group as he said some Conservative Brexiteers should be treated like a ‘metastasising tumour’.
Dominic Cummings criticised a ‘narcissist-delusional subset’ of the influential European Research Group (ERG) that he said needed to be ‘excised’.
With Brexit delayed, he issued a threat to MPs who promised ‘to respect the referendum result then abandoning’ the pledge that ‘actions have consequences’.
The Vote Leave director called on activists to start ‘rebuilding our network’ before suggesting a new campaign or party could be formed.
Mr Cummings’ blog post on Wednesday was in response to him being found to be in contempt of Parliament after he failed to appear before MPs investigating fake news.
He accused the subset of the ERG of ‘scrambling’ for top radio spots while ‘spouting gibberish’.
During the EU referendum, he claimed, ‘so many of you guys were too busy shooting or skiing or chasing girls to do any actual work’.
‘You should be treated like a metastasising tumour and excised from the UK body politic,’ he added.
Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom said the Government hopes to be able to bring Theresa May’s Brexit deal back to the Commons this week.
Mrs Leadsom told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘I think that there is a real possibility that it does. We are completely determined to make sure that we can get enough support to bring it back.’
She added: ‘The Prime Minister said she is working hard, as many colleagues are, to persuade colleagues to support it.’
Mrs Leadsom refused to be drawn on whether the Prime Minister should commit to standing down once the Withdrawal Agreement is passed in order to win over wavering MPs.
‘I am fully supporting the Prime Minister to get us out of the European Union,’ she said.
Asked if Mrs May should stand down after that, she said: ‘I think that is a matter for her. I am not expressing a view.’
The shift in momentum came as Remainers – led by Tories Sir Oliver Letwin and Nick Boles and Labour’s Yvette Cooper – prepared to seize control of the Brexit process today in a bid to push through a soft departure.
MPs tabled a blizzard of amendments for consideration in today’s ‘indicative votes’ in the Commons.
Options include revoking Article 50, which would effectively cancel Brexit, holding a second referendum and locking the UK into a single market and customs union. The latter would require Britain to accept free movement, EU laws and payments to Brussels.
Sir Oliver Letwin, the architect of the plan for the Commons to stage a series of indicative votes on the way forward on Brexit, tioday warned that if Theresa May tried to ignore the outcome, MPs could seek to force her to act.
‘If on Monday one or more propositions get a majority backing in the House of Commons, then we will have to work with the Government to implement them,’ he told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme.
‘The way I would hope it would happen under those circumstances is that we would have sensible, workmanlike discussions across the House of Commons and the Government would move forward in an orderly fashion.
‘If the Government didn’t agree to that, then those who I am working with across the parties will move to legislate to mandate the Government – if we can obtain majorities in the House of Commons and House of Lords for that – to carry that forward.’
Former Tory chief whip Andrew Mitchell said Sir Oliver Letwin had played ‘an absolute blinder’ by making clear to Brexiteers the consequences of continuing to oppose the PM’s deal.
He said: ‘Well, I think Sir Oliver Letwin has laid out for all my friends and colleagues in the ERG the instruments of torture, of what awaits them if they do not support Mrs May’s deal the next time it comes to a vote.
‘Everyone else is onside in the parliamentary party. Reluctantly, I admit, but nevertheless, onside.’
The Conservative Party will split apart if hardline MPs believe they can back Theresa May’s Brexit deal now and unpick it later, Tory former attorney general Dominic Grieve has said.
Mr Grieve said the Tories could not survive the pressure of trying to re-order the Prime Minister’s Withdrawal Agreement once Britain had left the EU.
The ex-Cabinet minister said the idea that the UK could renegotiate the deal after it quit the bloc extended beyond some members of the European Research Group (ERG) of Eurosceptic Tories.
Mr Grieve said: ‘I am mindful that some of my colleagues, not all of them in the ERG, I can think of at least one Cabinet minister who has hinted that the solution to the problem is to see this deal through so that we leave the EU … and then try to pick it apart.
‘Do they really, seriously think that my party, who’s already under a lot of strain and stress, is going to survive such a process?
‘Of course it isn’t.
‘If genuinely they think that the solution is to sign-up, leave and then try to take the whole thing to pieces, I think we can guarantee, firstly, we are going to have a very long period of immense and sterile debate.
‘And certainly I think when it comes to that I can confidently predict my party would split.’
Mr Grieve also said it was ‘odd’ that members of the ERG would support Mrs May’s deal on condition she gave a departure date for quitting Downing Street.
Speaking at a People’s Vote campaign event calling for a new Brexit referendum, he said: ‘It seems to me a very odd thing to say that just because she would go, they would be prepared to support it.’
During PMQs today, SNP MP Stewart Hosie asked the Prime Minister when she would resign.
He said: ‘Brexit is already costing the UK around £1 billion a week in lost growth.
‘We know 80% plus of the UK public is unhappy with the way in which this has been handled – this is not the fault of Guy Verhofstadt, Michel Barnier, Donald Tusk, or any MP in this House voting according to their conscience.
‘That fault lies with the Prime Minister who is the architect of the withdrawal deal, so can she finally concede to the House she is liable, responsible, culpable for the chaos which is the Brexit debacle and when she will be resigning?’
Mrs May insisted her deal ‘delivers on the result of the referendum’.
Brexiteer Tory MP Andrew Bridgen (North West Leicestershire) said his constituents would never trust the Prime Minister again if the UK failed to leave the EU on Friday March 29, with or without a deal.
‘At the last minute she begs our EU masters for an extension to Article 50, delaying our departure,’ he said.
‘They are good people, but they are not stupid and they will never trust the Prime Minister again.’
Mrs May said MPs could still guarantee delivering on Brexit ‘if this week he and others in this House support the deal’
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn told Mrs May: ‘This country is on hold while the Government is in complete paralysis.
‘The vital issues facing our country from the devastation of public services to homelessness to knife crime have been neglected.
‘The Prime Minister is failing to deliver Brexit because she can’t build a consensus, is unable to compromise and unable to reunite the country. Instead she is stoking further divisions, she’s unable to resolve the central issues facing Britain today and she is frankly unable to govern.
‘The Prime Minister faces a very clear choice, the one endorsed by the country and many of her own party – either listen and change course, or go. Which is it to be?’
Mrs May defended the Government’s record on public spending before adding: ‘The biggest threat to our standing in the world, to our defence and to our economy is sitting on the Labour frontbench.’
Andrea Leadsom today refused to be drawn on whether the Prime Minister should commit to standing down once the Withdrawal Agreement is passed in order to win over wavering MPs as ministers including Michael Gove (right today) continue to fight for her deal
Theresa May faces a series of votes on alternatives to the PM’s Brexit deal – and Attorney General Geoffrey Cox and Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay were called for No 10 talks this morning
HOW THERESA MAY COULD GET ROUND BERCOW’S RULING BLOCKING A THIRD VOTE
The final obstacle to Theresa May getting her deal before MPs again is Speaker John Bercow.
He will be asked to rule whether it can even be voted on or breaches ancient rules that say the same proposal cannot be put before the House repeatedly.
Mrs May is still hopeful that the Speaker is willing to make an exception in this case. If the vote gets the green light, it’s down to the numbers.
If Mr Bercow refuses to give in then there are other ways the Government could try to get around it.
Here are some of the ways Theresa May could try:
USING THE BREXIT DELAY She could wait until after the European Council – where a delay to Brexit is expected to be agreed – and claim a third meaningful vote is different because of the new Brexit date.
PROVE MPs WANT A THIRD VOTE The PM could test the will of the house by putting down a paving motion saying that ‘notwithstanding the convention of the House and the ruling of the Speaker’, the Commons wants a third meaningful vote.
SCRAP THE MEANINGFUL VOTE She could introduce the Withdrawal Agreement Bill alongside a motion saying a meaningful vote is not needed, and that getting the second reading passed is all that is required.
PROROGUE PARLIAMENT The dynamite option is to get the Queen to ‘prorogue’ Parliament – that is ending the current session and starting a new one. The Speaker’s ruling only blocked a third vote in the current session, meaning it could be brought back again. This would be a last resort thought because it would mean many pieces of legislation would fall and would have to start their passage through the House again.
Labour MP Stephen Kinnock said: ‘I really hope that today we will at least get to see the two or three really clear options where there is support in Parliament.
‘Then on Monday, we will have a crack of the whip and I think we can get something over the line.
‘But if we can’t of course, Theresa May will come back and try her deal. It looks like she will try that tomorrow. Who knows whether that would work.
‘But we have to, under all circumstances, ensure that we don’t leave the EU without a deal.’
Attorney General Geoffrey Cox is said to have told the PM that if Parliament does mandate her to pursue a new Brexit route next week if her deal falls then she will break the law if she ignores it.
As No 10 weighed up whether to put the withdrawal agreement to a vote for a third and final time tomorrow:
Ministers claimed Mrs May could set out a timetable for her departure when she addresses Tory MPs tonight in a bid to persuade them to back her plans;
Attempts to win over the DUP were rocked when the party’s Brexit spokesman Sammy Wilson warned he would rather delay for a year than accept the withdrawal agreement;
Mrs May was warned that a string of pro-Remain ministers could quit today unless they are given a free vote on soft Brexit options;
Nick Boles said Remainers would force the Prime Minister to pursue a soft Brexit if she refused to downgrade her red lines;
Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom told MPs that Parliament might have to sit through the Easter break;
The Prime Minister was facing the threat of a rebellion by her own whips over the vote to formally delay Brexit beyond March 29.
As chairman of the 80-strong ERG group of Tory MPs, Mr Rees-Mogg has led opposition to the Prime Minister’s strategy. He was also a leading figure in the bid to topple her last year, which resulted in a confidence vote that she won.
His intervention came as the number of Eurosceptics reluctantly backing Mrs May threatened to turn from a trickle into a flood
Shadow international trade secretary Barry Gardiner has warned that Labour could have difficulty supporting a plan for a confirmatory referendum on any Brexit deal.
Explained: How today’s key votes will work and the Brexit options that MPs could decide on
How tonight’s key votes will work…
Theresa May has said she will not necessarily be bound by the results – particularly if they are ‘undeliverable’ by the EU
MPs have seized control on the parliamentary timetable so they can hold a series of votes this evening in a bid to work out what kind of Brexit has a chance of winning the support of the House of Commons.
At 2pm, normal proceedings in the House will stop and MPs will debate for an hour whether to go ahead with Tory former minister Sir Oliver Letwin’s plan to stage indicative votes.
If they do, Commons Speaker John Bercow will at 3pm announce which Brexit options will go on the ballot paper. MPs had until last night to submit their suggestions.
Whilst the debate is taking place, Theresa May is due to address a meeting of the 1922 committee, which is the group made up of all Tory MPs.
At 7pm, MPs will be given paper slips listing the various Brexit options. They will get half an hour to mark Aye or Now next to each one.
Whilst the votes are being counted, MPs will debate legislation changing the Brexit date from 29 March to 12 April, after Mrs may agreed an extension with EU leaders at a Brussels summit last week.
The Speaker will announce the results of the indicative votes at around 9pm in the Commons chamber, revealing whether any of them commanded a majority of support.
Mrs May has said she will not necessarily be bound by the results – particularly if they are ‘undeliverable’ by the EU.
However, MPs are planning to seize control of the parliamentary timetable again next Monday so they can repeat the process to refine the options or attempt to pass legislation to enforce them.
The Brexit options that MPs are poised to vote on tonight:
Revoke Article 50
Put forward by SNP’s Joanna Cherry and backed by 33 MPs including Conservative former attorney general Dominic Grieve, Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable, Labour’s Ben Bradshaw and all 11 members of The Independent Group.
It demands that if no deal has been agreed on the day before Brexit that MPs will get the chance to cancel the UK’s notice to Brussels it would leave the EU.
Britain is allowed to unilaterally cancel Article 50 and stay a member on its current terms, according to a ruling of the European Court. It would bring an end to the existing negotiations – but would not legally rule them being restarted.
Second referendum
Tabled by Labour ex-foreign secretary Margaret Beckett to build on proposals from Labour MPs Peter Kyle and Phil Wilson.
It states that MPs will not sanction leaving the EU unless it has been put to the electorate for a ‘confirmatory vote’.
A significant evolution of the plan is it would put any deal agreed by the Government to a public vote and not just Mrs May’s plan.
Customs union
Tabled by veteran Conservative Europhile Ken Clarke, backed by Labour’s Yvette Cooper, Helen Goodman and chair of the Commons Exiting the EU Committee Hilary Benn and Tory former ministers Sir Oliver Letwin and Sarah Newton.
There is a further customs union amendment tabled by Labour’s Gareth Snell and other Labour leavers.
It demands that ministers negotiate a new ‘permanent and comprehensive UK-wide customs union with the EU’ which would prevent the country being able to strike its own trade deals but make it easier for goods to move between the UK and Europe.
Labour’s plan
Proposed by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn
It includes a comprehensive customs union but with a UK say on future trade deals and close alignment with the single market.
The plan also demands matching new EU rights and protections; participation in EU agencies and funding programmes; and agreement on future security arrangements, including access to the European Arrest Warrant.
No deal
Proposed by Eurosceptic Tory MP John Baron.
Tabled a motion demanding ‘the UK will leave the EU on 12 April 2019’ without a deal. However, a No Deal Brexit has already been rejected twice by MPs.
It would instruct the Government to abandon efforts to secure its deal and inform the EU it did not want a long extension to Article 50 either, in line with last week’s EU Council. Both sides would then have a fortnight to make final preparations.
Common Market 2.0
Tabled by Conservatives Nick Boles, Robert Halfon and Andrew Percy and Labour’s Stephen Kinnock, Lucy Powell and Diana Johnson.
The motion proposes UK membership of the European Free Trade Association and European Economic Area.
It allows continued participation in the single market and a ‘comprehensive customs arrangement’ with the EU after Brexit. It would be very similar to current membership.
The idea is this would remain in place until the agreement of a wider trade deal which guarantees frictionless movement of goods and an open border in Ireland.
Malthouse Compromise
This is a cross-party proposal calls for Theresa May’s Withdrawal Agreement to be implemented with the controversial ‘backstop’ for the Irish border replaced by alternative arrangements.
Backed by Conservatives from both the Leave and Remain wings of the party, including Nicky Morgan, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Damian Green, Steve Baker and Sir Graham Brady, as well as the DUP’s Nigel Dodds and Labour Brexiteer Kate Hoey.
The proposals have already been rejected by the EU.
Single Market
Tory former minister George Eustice – who quit as agriculture minister this month to fight for Brexit – proposes remaining within the EEA and rejoining EFTA, but remaining outside a customs union with the EU.
The motion was also signed by Conservative MPs including former minister Nicky Morgan and head of the Brexit Delivery Group Simon Hart.
The idea would keep the UK in the European Economic Area (EEA), but unlike the Common Market 2.0 plan would not involve a customs arrangement. It is similar to Norway’s deal.
MPs will consider the motion, tabled in the name of former foreign secretary Dame Margaret Beckett, requiring a public vote before ratification of any deal, in a series of indicative votes on Wednesday.
However Mr Gardiner said that if Labour voted for it, it could suggest that they were a ‘Remain party’ – which was not the case.
He said that under the terms of the motion, any referendum could be a choice between Theresa May’s deal or staying in the EU.
‘It would be saying we could accept what we have always said is a very bad deal. Therefore it looks as if the attempt to have a public vote on it is simply a way of trying to remain because nobody likes this deal,’ he told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme.
‘To put that up as the only alternative in a public vote and say we will let it go through looks as though you believe that at the end of it Remain would be the result.
‘It is not where our policy has been. Our policy is clearly that we would support a public vote to stop no-deal or to stop a bad deal, but not that we would allow a bad deal as long as the public had the opportunity to reject Brexit altogether.
‘That implies that you are a Remain party. The Labour Party is not a Remain party now. We have accepted the result of the referendum.’
Today he cautions colleagues against believing that removing Mrs May would solve the Brexit crisis.
‘A number of Tory MPs think a new leader could swiftly renegotiate but that is almost certainly not true now that Parliament has taken control of the House of Commons timetable,’ he writes.
‘It would be even harder for a Eurosceptic to manage the current Commons than it is for Mrs May.’
But hours later Labour undermined him and said MPs are to be whipped to support a motion tabled in the name of Dame Margaret Beckett, demanding a second referendum on any Brexit deal passed by this Parliament before its ratification.
A party spokesman said: ‘In line with our policy, we’re supporting motions to keep options on the table to prevent a bad Tory deal or No Deal.’
Before Labour announced it would be supporting the Margaret Beckett amendment, Labour MP Owen Smith said: ‘What’s going on today is a process that I feel will result in a lowest common denominator, compromise Brexit being heralded by some as being the way forward.
‘I don’t think it will be the way forward. I think crucially what we need to do today is to separate our process from outcomes.
‘I am wholly in favour of there being a public vote, a confirmatory vote, on any of the options that are adopted today, whichever one emerges and whichever deal is passed by the Commons eventually.
‘There must be a public vote on it. And if it is a compromise, second-rate Brexit that nobody is content with, then that makes even greater the rationale for having a confirmatory people’s vote on it.’
Mr Rees-Mogg, whose backing is subject to support from the DUP, says the agreement negotiated by the Prime Minister ‘is a bad one’ – and he would rather leave under No Deal, but this was effectively ruled out.
Six other Eurosceptic Tories who have voted against Mrs May’s plan said yesterday they would now back it.
They were former Tory vice-chairmen Rehman Chishti and Ben Bradley and MPs Michael Fabricant, Gordon Henderson, Eddie Hughes and Henry Smith. They join a trickle of Brexiteers who have changed their minds in recent days, including former Cabinet minister Esther McVey, James Gray and Daniel Kawczynski.
Privately, ERG sources acknowledge the group is likely to split, with a hard core of ‘refuseniks’ unwilling to back any deal.
This group includes former Cabinet ministers John Redwood and Owen Paterson, Mr Rees-Mogg’s deputy Steve Baker, and Tory grandee Sir Bill Cash. A senior government source last night confirmed that the PM wants to try another vote this week – possibly tomorrow or even Friday – but said she would do so only if she was confident of winning.
‘Realistically if we don’t get the deal through this week then we are looking at a long delay and participation in the European Parliament elections,’ the source said. ‘Things are moving, but the numbers are not there yet.’
Hardline Brexiteers – including Sir Bill – yesterday accused Theresa May of exceeding her lawful powers by delaying Brexit beyond this Friday.
They said there were ‘serious legal objections’ to the agreement made at last week’s EU summit to extend the UK’s membership.
Theresa May could be prepared to make clear that she will quit No10 within weeks if Tory MPs agree to back her Brexit deal, ministers believe.
Senior Eurosceptic Conservatives are demanding that she names a date for her departure when she appears before the 1922 Committee of backbenchers at 5pm today.
Last night one close ally of the PM told the Mail that they believed she could now agree to leave Downing Street ‘if it were in the national interest and she finally got this thing through’.
However, the ally warned it would be her ‘last move’ and she would only agree to go if it was clear the deal would pass.
Ten Brexiteers, including European Research Group chairman Jacob Rees-Mogg, have now said they could back the deal if it comes back to the Commons regardless of Mrs May’s intentions.
They fear that moves by former Tory minister Sir Oliver Letwin and Labour’s Hilary Benn – who have organised a series of indicative votes in the Commons today – will result in a much softer Brexit, a long delay to leaving the EU or no Brexit at all.
But a larger group are holding out until an announcement from the PM of a firm date when she will go.
Behind the scenes, former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith was yesterday said to be ‘actively encouraging’ Brexiteer MPs to back the deal on the basis of a discreet promise by Mrs May to go if it passes.
He is thought to have proposed the idea at last weekend’s Chequers summit and told the PM he could deliver 90 per cent of the ERG’s hardline Leavers if she agreed to quit. Mrs May did not rule out the idea but responded sceptically: ‘I’m not sure you can get me the numbers.’
Other senior Eurosceptics want the PM to go public with her promise tonight. It comes amid signs Mrs May could call a third Brexit vote as early as tomorrow if she believes she can get enough support for the Withdrawal Agreement.
Tory Nigel Evans, executive secretary of the 1922 Committee, told the BBC last night: ‘The Prime Minister will be addressing the 1922 tomorrow at 5pm. I am encouraging her in that speech to give the timetable for her departure.
‘A number of Brexiteers are reluctant to support her deal because they think if it gets over the line, she will then say ‘Look what I’ve achieved – I’m staying’. A number of them want to make absolutely certain she’s nowhere near the negotiating table when we start talking about the future trade relationship with the EU.
‘If the Prime Minister announces a timetable of departure, I think that’s going to swing a lot of people behind her deal – we could get it over the line.’
Prime Minister Theresa May and Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union Stephen Barclay leave Downing Street yesterday
But Brexit Party MEP and former Ukip leader Nigel Farage told the European Parliament it was ‘inevitable’ that the UK was heading for a delay to its departure from the EU.
‘You should ask yourselves: ‘Do you really want that?” he told MEPs. ‘Do you really want Brexit to utterly dominate the next couple of years of your business to the exclusion of your many other ambitions?
What will happen in the Commons today?
2pm: Debate on how to organise the indicative votes begins. It will be the first time ever MPs have control of the agenda.
3pm: Votes to finalise the rules of indicative votes. This is set to say MPs will use a ballot paper to vote yes or no on a series of Brexit plans all at once. This can be amended to the rules could change.
3.15pm: Debate on the plans will start proper. Ideas are thought likely to include a soft Brexit, hard Brexit and a No Deal on April 12. It is unclear whether the Government will put its own deal into the mix.
7pm: The Commons will be suspended for 30 minutes so MPs can fill in and file their ballot papers.
7.30pm: Voting closes. MPs are due to spend up to 90 minutes debating the change to the law on Brexit Day. It is a technical change as EU law has already postponed it from March 29.
9pm: Speaker John Bercow will announce how MPs have voted on each Brexit plan. Anything which gets more than about 315 votes will have a rough majority in the Commons. It is possible the House could vote strongly in favour of nothing – or multiple contradictory plans.
‘Do you really want the UK to contest the European elections, to send back a very large number of Leave MEPs, just at a time when you are fighting populism – as you see it – across the continent?’
And, to cries of ‘No’ from some MEPs and ‘Yes’ from others, he asked: ‘Do you really want me back in this place?’
EU chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier replied: ‘Mr Farage, no-one in Brussels is trying to steal Brexit from you, no-one is trying to undo the vote of the British people.
‘It is not Brussels that decided that the UK would leave the EU. You were the ones who made that choice and you are the ones who have to take your responsibility and face up to the consequences of that decision. No-one else.’
Dover Tory MP Charlie Elphicke told Kent Online: ‘If the deal does get endorsed, it should be on condition Theresa May agrees to stand down.
What I am clear on is that if we are going to support it, there needs to be a change of negotiating team. I think we need to have a change of leadership and a new face and a new team to take us forward to the future relationship.’
Former education minister Tim Loughton said it was ‘inevitable’ Mrs May would go but she could leave with her ‘head held high’ if she got her deal through.
Cabinet ministers were in talks with the Democratic Unionist Party in Whitehall last night in a last-ditch attempt to win its support – which is seen as necessary before Eurosceptics will fall in line.
A total of 75 Tories – including half a dozen arch-Remainers – voted against the deal when it was defeated two weeks ago by a majority of 149.
At yesterday’s Cabinet meeting ministers, including Commons leader Andrea Leadsom and Treasury chief secretary Liz Truss, pledged their determination and ‘resolve to get this done’.
A source said: ‘They are pulling out all the stops to try and get colleagues over the line.’
But one Cabinet minister estimated the odds of Mrs May getting the deal through at just 30 per cent. Her allies downplayed expectations, saying ‘everything has to fall in place at once’ and it wouldn’t be clear until lunchtime today what would happen.
Even if she wins over the DUP and most of her backbenchers, Mrs May will still need Labour MPs to back the deal. A group of up to 25 hardline ERG members are seen as ‘irreconcilable’ – including Sir Bill Cash, Sir John Redwood and former Cabinet minister Owen Paterson.
Some of these argue that they can still secure a No Deal Brexit regardless of a bid by Sir Oliver to try to find a softer deal the Commons can agree to.
Other Eurosceptic MPs said they were determined to oppose the deal. Dr Julian Lewis, chairman of the Defence Committee, told the Mail: ‘The choice revealing itself is one between a clean Brexit or tearing up the result of the referendum.
‘It is vital that those of us who believe in Brexit neither ‘flag nor fail’ in Churchill’s immortal phrase, at this decisive stage.’
The Easter recess of parliament may be cancelled as MPs try to get a grip of Brexit, Mrs Leadsom said yesterday.
She stressed Britons would expect MPs to be ‘working flat-out’. She told the Commons: ‘I have announced the dates for Easter recess. But, as is always the case, recess dates are announced subject to the progress of business.
‘We will need time in the House either to find a way forward or to pass the Withdrawal Agreement bill, and I think the country will rightly expect Parliament to be working flat-out in either scenario.’ The recess is due to run from April 4 to 23.
JACOB REES-MOGG: I apologise for changing my mind. But this is why I’m ready to back Mrs May
I apologise for changing my mind. Theresa May’s deal is a bad one, it does not deliver on the promises made in the Tory Party manifesto and its negotiation was a failure of statesmanship.
A £39 billion bill for nothing, a minimum of 21 months of vassalage, the continued involvement of the European Court and, worst of all, a backstop with no end date.
Yet, I am now willing to support it if the Democratic Unionist Party does, and by doing so will be accused of infirmity of purpose by some and treachery by others.
I have come to this view because the numbers in Parliament make it clear that all the other potential outcomes are worse and an awkward reality needs to be faced.
Mrs May ought to have concluded a better agreement but behind the backs of two secretaries of state, David Davis and Dominic Raab, she did not.
The agreement on the table is as it is, and the proposal to replace the backstop with something else, particularly the Malthouse Compromise (a managed No Deal exit — if a deal cannot be agreed) has floundered.
Jacob Rees-Mogg has said he is ready to back Theresa May’s deal ‘because the numbers in Parliament make it clear that all the other potential outcomes are worse’
Delay
The EU, in the knowledge that it was dealing with a weak counterparty, has refused to reopen the text and the Government has not been willing to threaten No Deal in any effective way. The late start to No Deal planning and the reluctance to use it in negotiations has been a significant reason for the poor outcome.
Until last week, nonetheless, No Deal remained the default legal option but the Government and the Prime Minister have now ruled this out and with the support of Parliament can now do so.
No Deal is an outcome I would prefer to Mrs May’s deal. It would be a fully-leaded Brexit and mere motions in the Commons could not have stopped it.
Indeed, despite a clear majority of MPs opposing such a departure, it would have happened on Friday had Mrs May not used her executive authority as Prime Minister to postpone the day of Brexit.
Once No Deal had been ruled out, it was necessary to examine what would happen in the event of the current agreement not passing. This would lead to a long delay as there is no opportunity of renegotiating anything before the European elections at the end of May. Two years or more is proposed but considering the opposition to Brexit it could be revoked or put to a skewed second referendum.
A long delay would make remaining in the EU the most likely outcome.
If the moral authority of 17.4 million voters and a General Election in 2017 when both main parties committed to respecting the result could not deliver our departure in three years, how strong a mandate would it be after five? Even if the fear of remaining were exaggerated, it would inevitably lead to an even softer Brexit.
It is a sad fact that there is a gulf between Parliament and the people. Fifty-two per cent voted Leave but two-thirds of MPs want to remain. The Lords is even worse with a tiny minority of pro-Leave peers.
After giving people the right to decide, too many politicians felt that the voters gave the wrong answer and must be saved from themselves. Two years further from the referendum would allow for the demands to be watered down again, leaving the UK shackled by a Customs Union or as a Norway-style rule-taker.
If this were all, it could be sensible to take the risk and see if something better turned up. A number of Tory MPs think a new leader could swiftly renegotiate but that is almost certainly not true now that Parliament has taken control of the Brexit timetable.
No Deal is an outcome I would prefer to Mrs May’s deal. It would be a fully-leaded Brexit and mere motions in the Commons could not have stopped it.
It would be even harder for a Eurosceptic to manage the current Commons than it is for Mrs May. Even if this could happen, politicians must look at the current constitutional clash and fear for our polity.
The constitution is under attack in three ways. The first is between the Government and the Commons.
This has been encouraged by the Speaker whose noble efforts to allow the Commons to hold the Government to account have gone too far and now seek to take the role of the Government to the legislature.
Recklessness
This is dangerous because the Commons’ job is to provide confidence in a Prime Minister who can take decisions for which she or he is accountable.
These decisions ought to be in accordance with manifesto commitments and if there is no confidence in the duly elected Prime Minister, then control ought to return to voters, not to a cabal of MPs who will have random majorities on various issues but no clear leader or mandate.
Separation of powers between Downing Street and the Commons is a crucial part of how we are ruled and a protection against arbitrary government.
Upsetting this balance is unwise to the point of recklessness and the Sir Oliver Letwin takeover proves the point.
Unfortunately, the second breakdown is just as serious. The Government only functions if ministers support a single position or resign, and this has been the reality since the 1830s. There can only be one Government position, otherwise how can it be held to account? How can electors know how power is being exercised if different ministers say the first thing that pops into their heads?
Recently, three Cabinet Ministers failed to back Government policy on the vote to leave the EU without a deal and in a rather jejune fashion ostentatiously abstained.
As they did not resign, this undermines one of the cornerstones of the constitution, making it harder for the Government to function.
Faltering
Any government must be able to get its business done. If it cannot, it is unable to govern. The principle of the separation of powers and of collective responsibility lie at the heart of this.
A number of Tory MPs think a new leader could swiftly renegotiate but that is almost certainly not true now that Parliament has taken control of the Brexit timetable
The great Duke of Wellington was famous for insisting that the Queen’s Government must go on and that all responsible politicians have a duty towards such an end, even if it countermands their own piety.
The worst breakdown, though, is between the elected and the electors.
The condescension of politicians who feel that Leave voters were all stupid and ought never to have been allowed to decide something so complicated is tragic.
Ultimately, voters know best and must be trusted. Imperfect as it is, Mrs May’s deal gets closer to that than anything else available.
The Withdrawal Agreement has one great virtue. Legally, we would have left and to re-join would mean agreeing to adopt the Euro single currency, Schengen (the abolition of national borders) and no rebate. Such a course would be expensive and hugely unpopular.
The backstop, too, could tie us into rules that we did not like. But outside the EU, it would be a political not a legal matter.
International law is not as clear-cut as EU or domestic law and there is no court to rule between states and international bodies.
Ultimately, Brexit could be delivered upon but it would take longer.
It would need a Commons that wants to use our freedoms and that is willing to insist that the word ‘temporary’, as applied to the backstop, is genuine.
It needs political leadership and a desire to stop the weak-minded managing of decline and a belief in the UK.
Theresa May’s deal is a more faltering step than I want, or feel, could be taken —but at least it is a step forward.

Pre-Game
The time is here, this post is going to explain everything that’s going on in my pre-game verse; specifically put how different Saihara acts and I’m going to explain why he acts the way he does as best as I can. This will also be a form of a warning to those who want to have any form of relationship with pregame Saihara ( unless you’re like me and Bun and want to fucking die )
There is also going to be talk about suicide and abuse in this
Before I begin I do want to give a shoutout to Bun and Caleb for helping me develop this and just overall being my main motivations to complete this.
He keeps to himself more and doesn’t speak to anyone unless it’s for something important like work.
What he “does” exactly is detective work, though the small stuff like finding kids and pets. Him already being a detective or at the very least training to be one is why he said he wanted to be an Ultimate Detective in the first place. He doesn’t explain why he wants to have that title, if you want to use the “a detective hasn’t been a blackened before” as a reason that just further proves my previous theory that he’s suicidal and all he wants to do is to die in that game.
He thinks no one would ever care about him and there would be no one for him to trust because everyone is lowkey at each other’s throats.
