leon catches someone taking his picture. it's a creepshot for sure, but with his line of work.... he can't be too careful now.

immediately he can tell his young woman knows she's been caught, and immediately he tries to get a feel for the situation.

she's embarrassed. she's looking away. and leon's.... not so sure about it. so, he makes his way over nonchalantly.

this woman is sat by the exit of this truckstop restaurant, by the trashcans and such. leon tries to avoid bluntly intimidating her by steering clear and throwing his stuff away. only to gently throw a comment her way, one that's meant to be playful and now blunt, but quiet to avoid drawing attention to her.

if this woman is just being creepy, he doesn't exactly want to embarrass her. she looks fresh into college and, while an adult shouldn't be acting like this.... maybe he wants to give her the benefit of the doubt, yknow?

he comments, something along the lines of, "not who you think i am, but i'm flattered. coulda just asked next time." a way to ease any tension with a joke.

and quickly, she's apologetic. "it was for a friend, i'm sorry," etc etc.

leon kinda feels bad. for the most part, he was worried less about some random girl taking creepshots and more of espionage and assassination attempts. if she's just some weirdo, then he can try to be nice at least? make the world a better place by confronting a creep and hopefully changing their ways lol.

in the best way he can, he just puts it light and asks her to not do that again. steer her on the right path.

but aha! that is the trick! while she wasn't interested in him (or maybe she plans to NOT delete that image after sending it to the sketch number she was given ahah), she was interested in the money she was paid to take photos and then lie to him if she was caught. hell, she IS a broke college student. what's wrong with sacrificing her dignity for a couple hundred bucks?

classic, "use an innocent looking young woman/kid to keep the target's guard down as a red herring!"

he might be a little weirded out on his way out, but he's more distracted by social anxiety to notice the ambush.

bonus points if this woman somehow becomes actually involved when, whoops, her desperation led her to witness this man's kidnapping and... oh god she just wants to eat something better than ramen, dude. fuck, man. shit. oh no. oh god.

and boy, is she in for a surprise when it's not just some random handsome guy getting abducted. not some poor fucker caught up in crime, or someone who owes money. ..

sokka seeing katara waterbend for the first time. sokka dragging katara back into their igloo like "mum! dad! look at this look at this!!!" and being so excited because his little sister is a waterbender, that's so cool, and his parents are making a really big deal about it and hurrying katara out to see the elders and sokkas falling a little bit behind but that's ok, because katara's a waterbender and they need to tell the elders

and so they host this celebration - nothing big because they may still get traders but they don't want this to go out to the fire nation - and hakoda and kya are doting over katara and making sure she's had enough to eat and everything and sokka... feels a little weird. he knows its kataras special day but he just feels a little lonely, but when he goes up to his parents they tell him they're busy, so he tells himself that he'll talk to them tomorrow.

but then the next day, his dad is in meetings all day - that are about katara, he gleans from gilak and bato, who look a little confused as to why sokka's alone - and when he goes to find his mum, she's with katara and she's watching her shakily try to bend on command, instead of by accident. so he goes up to her to say hi but she tells him that she's busy and not to distract her. sokka frowns because it doesn't look like she's doing anything and can't he say hi? but then katara loses concentration to say hi to sokka, and though his mum smiles at katara, she doesn't spare another glance at sokka.

which. is fine. he thinks. obviously life is different now that his little sister is a waterbender and he had sooo many adults tell him as such when their village celebrated it, so... it's fine. maybe it's just because his parents look a little worried, he thinks, as they sit down to eat before bed. they do look worried.

and then katara says that she's tired, and his parents wish her good night and their mum goes to tell her a bedtime story and it's exactly as it should be. except that sokkas still eating and they usually wait til both of them are in their cots before the story happens. so he tells her to wait while he quickly shovels his food into his mouth, and he thinks it's fine but then once he's eaten and moving towards his cot, he hears the end of the story

he pouts, saying that he wanted to hear it too, but his mum tells him not now, sokka. she sounds tired. he doesn't care, he wanted to hear it too. she sounds a little angry when she tells him to be quiet, because kataras sleeping, but he doesn't care, he wanted to hear the story and why didn't she wait? it's his dad that scolds him this time, telling him that katara needs her rest. sokka goes to say that he was only a few extra minutes, but he's shut down. his parents tell him that they won't be speaking to him when he's being so rude, and sokka doesn't understand but hes too tired so he cries in his cot before falling asleep.

the next morning, his dad isn't there and neither are katara and his mum. and he learns. he learns through his parents ignoring him when he asks a question and scolding him when he wants something that he's selfish. what else could he be, trying to put himself above his sister, who could be targeted by the fire nation (which he didn't originally know, he finds that out when his dad yells at him one day and, oh ok maybe he is being a bit selfish) and katara needs her parents more anyway because shes the only waterbender, she needs guidance in connecting to her culture and her history. he wonders whether it's technically his history too, but he doesn't ask. he stopped asking a while ago, stopped talking a while ago.

he thinks he hates katara a little. bato tilts his head and asks him why, when he tentatively tells him after the man prods and prods because "I haven't heard you speak for ages kid, you ok?", and sokka doesn't have an answer for him because he doesn't know why he hates katara but he doesn't want to hate her, it's just that his parents like her more cause she's a waterbender. bato tells him thats silly, of course his parents like him, and he ducks his head and mumbles an apology and doesn't notice the way bato frowns and glances over to gilak, who sports an equally worried frown.

the next day his dad takes him fishing. he's so excited but he's nervous too, he doesn't want to upset his dad and his dad is already looking at him weirdly that morning so he answers the questions his dad awkwardly pushes towards him and doesn't ask for help even when he can't get the bait on his hook, and eventually his dad takes the rod from him and does it for him, and he apologises but his dad looks at him weirdly again and so he doesn't speak again on the trip. but... it's nice. his dad claps him on the back everytime he catches a fish and he proudly displays his three fish to him at the end and gets a laugh for his efforts. so. it's nice.

the following week, there's a raid on their tribe. sokka runs towards their igloo, having lost katara in all the chaos. he pulls to a stop by the entrance, hearing his mum talking to some guy about the waterbender and... what is she doing?

he freezes. the man stomps out of their home, sees sokka and throws him aside. sokka doesn't feel the bruises til the next day, and when he does he doesn't care.

there's no point. he's got to take care of katara. that's his job now

OAUGHHHH OOOH OH OH HEHEHE OK YES!! ok ok ok so i know i said i'll post it and yadda but! but that'll take for AGES! So quickly!!!

Note, as will be mentioned, I never really thought about religion in depth for Prospit or Derse. So if this comes off as me trying to be a magician and pull shit out of thin air... :) i hope it's entertaining!

Religion, alright, I honestly don't quite know how strong religion is! Like how much of a hold on society does it have? Of course bishops are a thing, but so far, they're a bit like representational figures depending on that individual (1) (a hint of leadership) on either planets (like Prospit and Derse). I've never really managed to really think about Prospit being religious moreso Derse. WhICH i know, I know fucking dumb considering Derse is about skepticism and rebellion (hA! try keep a religious theme or thingy afloat with that)

told myself i wouldn't go off and post these freaks yet but here I go. (1) CC here (while being a Dersite) is noted as a "religious" leader. However he's not really like, "human" religious or strict with it (as in he doesn't follow the same "code" as actual priests/clergymen). He's kind of there to give some words here and there, mainly keep individuals from trying to rebel against the BQ on Derse. (since he's not on Skaia, his ass would fucking leave). Also i only put him here because I haven't started on my Prospit monk/shinshoku whoopsies

There are some individuals that are more, "faithful" to our depictions of priests and religious figures like the whole "Oh love thy neighbor! Biblestuck this! Worship this figure" and etc. But there's no set in stone figure they worship. Like there's no JC that got nailed (cackles) or like mono/polytheistic or animistic practices that MUST be followed. I think the horrorterrors like Feferi's Gigglybob (my ass ain't spelling) are considered not really as gods or demons by Dersites but like creatures that only some carapaces are willing to listen to. Like yes, they are referred to as the "outer gods" but they're not entirely feared or revered as (stated before but i am redundant) not all carapaces on Derse give a shit. Like you're either getting your ass flung to Skaia or you're working to keep your kingdom planet from kinda just crumbling or going stale??? So it's like, they're there, but not all are going to be like "ah yes outer gods!"

So Prospit is a bit the same, but they just really don't have any figure(s) to turn to. They're located closest to Skaia so sometimes some of those future seeing clouds pop up every now and then. And sure, some will go "oh that's uh the God of the Clouds

trying to converse with us!". But like Derse, there's usually a specific set of carapaces that are assigned/bestowed roles or jobs that interact with these. Like HK's role of being able to make sense of what's being shown (since it's like fragments the clouds will reveal, all random moments in time so have fun with that mess". So not entirely religious-religious! but there's something there?

Grm I don't know much about religion in general lol even though my dumbass fucking took religious themed classes (writing and oral inensive credits) but I'll be damned if I get smited. So basically!!!! Religion on both Prospit and Derse (whatever it may be) is very, representational? I don't know the specific word to use, but it's more focused on the individuals (mainly Bishops) that are used as "lesser leaders" for society. They're essentially like the royal family lol, like no serious political power but more power to set an example for/somewhat influence society to follow? Groaugh liKE! There's some hints of animism(?) that influence stuff in society, but it's really being able to see or have an actual living proof/being be the main source of religion? gooaug LIKEEEEE I think! they're both leaning towards folklorism rather than mainly religion-based??? So there's probably some astronomical being/creature??? more mythology/folklore based.

my ass thinking about the whole "Ah yes! Politics vs Religion, when and which should have more power over what. What context and GET OUT OF MY HEAD" sorry im shit at explaining and answering and my mind is trying very hard to think of something that makes sense but isn't too human-society focused.

SO so so more of a wrap-wrap-wrap up with a pretty bow:

I think! (or try to think) that both kingdoms are more folklorism leaning for a form how they worship or practice with a religion-esque feel. Like through performative arts (Prospit = theatrical/plays and Derse = choir/organized like). But goog ol' religion themes, motifs, concepts like gaoaugh architecture (sorry i simply cannot help myself) is like, society's outline? The whole yeah there's the big honcho pope-like mf then the rest, so it really is like a structure based part. Both do influence society in any manner the individual wants it to.

Also! icons, ehhh? (i just have no real ideas on any figures that can serve as religious beings? maybe those astronomical beings/creatures???) but perhaps those icons can be of bishops like how in the Medieval, there's this stained glass in Chartres Cathedral the one showing St. Lubin/Leobinus which is like, not a well-known saint but he was a local favorite, mainly with the wine making guild. (I know, technically isn't an icon but shhh) So like, icons don't need to be big well-known religious(?) context figures. (I will explain more with examples of gargoyles and grotesques for (Derse focused) architecture.)

Also, I do apologize if this comes off as like, Christian or Catholic(?) leaning with the theme of religion, it's mainly due to me taking an Art History Course on the Medieval and of course the Medieval wasn't a "strictly" religious or prude time (as there's a good chunk of uh risqué or bodily humorous art. The Gothics kinda just shunned that aspect in more favor of "Oh they were so pious! With their innocent/pure depictions of love/courtship!") but it's just me going "Oh yeah haha Derse and Prospit have a (Western-European) Medieval theme! And since this was a very off the top of my head thinking explanation/answer, I will think over this some more and probably fix it up here and there.

alright~ a few updates about everything! so this weekend I'll be seeing changkyun in chicago- so I prolly won't be posting until after I'm alive again from that 😂😅 (I am vv excited about it- I just know I'll be vv tired when I return home). Anyways, I have a few fics in the works~ one of them that is a request 🤭 I'm vv excited to work on them! But I think I'm going to change my masterlist a bit when I come back. I'm going to retire a few groups from the main masterlist and I've been debating for the past year about it... But I think I'm going to add a yearly masterlist- So it would go from most recent to the beginning of this year~

I'm also thinking about changing my pfp- I haven't been really into stray kids for uh... years- But I will be sure to make an update about that if I go thru with that too- (It may be ji changmin next 🫣🤭)

NGL I think one of my least favorite "gotchas" that I see/get while critiquing stories is "so how would you fix it? oh so you don't have an idea of how to rewrite the story to make it better? oh so basically you're just complaining that you don't like it and don't have actual critique."

Sometimes the reason I don't have a "solution" to how the author should've rewritten their story to be better, is because I'm not privy to the author's thought process, what their alternate story ideas were, what they talked about with their editor, what they might've been forced to do by deadlines, or even what they might've thought they were writing towards at first but then later changed the trajectory of their story to be about something else.

It's all well and good for me to say something like, idk, "I think Character A should've gotten more narrative focus because their story could have helped fix XYZ Plot Hole," but it could very well be that the author never intended for Character A to be a prominent character (just a secondary or tertiary character). Maybe using Character A to solve one Plot Hole would've gone against the writer's plans because then it would open up a different plot hole for something else they had planned later in the story. If it's an ongoing story, maybe something I see as a "plot hole" is actually a deliberate mystery that the creator left open to write about later-- or maybe the plot hole is because there was a deadline crunch and the author had to drop a certain character/plot point/etc because they couldn't fit it into the story any more. Maybe having Character A be a more prominent part of the story is just based on MY personal tastes and what I would want to write in MY version of the story, but completely clashes with the characters/conflicts the author wanted to focus on.

Because yes, there are some story critiques that are as simple as "part A doesn't make sense, you could just fix it by doing B", but there are also some story critiques where suggesting a viable "solution" would require BEING the author or someone involved in the production of the story to understand what limitations or plans were involved in the selection of that flawed plot point. There are also some story critiques where even if there is a "problem" and my critique offers a "solution," there could be another "solution" or even dozens that do just as good of a job fixing the issue, but involve vastly different characters, plot ideas, so on and so forth.

Being a good critic isn't (just) about going "the story would've been better if X happened" because the story is ultimately in control of the author and their vision, and without knowing what the author's vision was (something that you almost exclusively know if you're 1. the author or 2. their beta reader), it's impossible to definitively say "this plot point should've been cut/[completely different thing] should've happened instead" because THAT is the point at which you're complaining, not critiquing. I would argue that in some cases, trying to "fix" a story yourself actually makes your critique worse, not better, because it ends up being a case of you simply imposing your artistic vision over the author's to say "I think it would've been better this way."

At least if you just say "this part of the story was flawed because XYZ" without saying "it should have been ABC instead", then you're stating your grievances with the story without being presumptuous enough to assume that YOUR version of the story would fit the author's original vision, or the constraints they were working under, or the other versions of the story that they were debating over at the time before ultimately settling on one version (even if flawed).

There's a point at which "this plot is flawed, that should've happened instead" is just fix-it fan fiction and not actual critique that could help the writer write their story in a way that fits their vision.

Also he takes notice of the fact that he only sees moments of his time as a trainee. Aka something happens. Cue to Jean spending all his childhood trying to understand what his dreams are trying to say and eventually trying to keep them both alive during Trost.
