I feel this was an obligatory stop on my trip to AIPAC and Washington, D.C. I spent the past few days learning about Israel, her triumphs, and the menaces who seek her destruction. I felt compelled to visit the US Holocaust Memorial Museum because to understand her spirit and the spirit of the people who inhabit her, you have to understand the darkest days her people have ever known. Auschwitz. I don't think I could ever prepare myself for what I saw that day. On the way, the radio played "One" by U2 and the tears began to flow. You only have to go through the lyrics of the song to see why I had my emotional moment. By the time I got to Auschwitz and saw the infamous gates that say "ARBEIT MACHT FREI" or "Work sets you free" it really did hit home where I was. But where I really had my emotional moment is where they displayed the exhibits of Zyklon-B and the human hair. In the last 7 years, I've learnt so much about Jewish culture and religion, I've even converted to Judaism and because of that I'm a better person for it. I've met so many people whose whose families was torn apart by The Holocaust, we still remember those who perished and those who lived through the nightmare to tell us their story. These photos aren't for tourist reasons. They are to remind you and the future generations that The Holocaust happened, and we should never forget what atrocities occurred during the time of Nazi Germany. Not just to Jews, but Homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Roma/Sinti people, black people, the Disabled and the Mentally Ill as well. As a Jew, who is mixed race, a female, having a mental illness, being a proud unique person with high functioning Autism and also a proud member of the LGBTIQ community, I am grateful to be given this opportunity to visit Auschwitz. Because of this I can share my story with you all, in the hope that you tell your family and friends that we are all equal and if we let the ravings of a madman change how we think of people's beliefs or who they love, we will never learn our lessons from the past. Barbara and I had the privilege of recently attending a special advance preview screening of "Three Minutes - A Lengthening" at the Living Room Theater on the campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. The showing was followed by an informative Q & A with Leslie Swift, Special Advisor for Time-Based Media at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum David M. Rubenstein National Institute for Holocaust Documentation.

The movie, primarily narrated by Helena Bonham Carter, was found in a closet in Palm Springs, FLA, and features rare home movie footage shot in Nasielsk, Poland, circa 1938. It documents people and places obliterated in the Holocaust and is a priceless artifact donated to the Museum by Glenn Kurtz. It brings back to life a world long lost and forgotten. Hopefully, others might find similar films and donate them to the Museum.

Beautiful memorial in the Holocaust museum.

This past week, I had the privilege of attending a South Florida Business-Professional Advisory Committee meeting of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The Committee was informed about recent activities of the Museum and it was very impressive.

Among items discussed was an emotional reunion of two Survivors who had not seen each other for 79 years who met by chance at the 2022 South Florida Dinner, methods undertaken to save valued articles from that period, archival materials being collected from Latin America from Jewish refugees, and upcoming plans by the Museum including a trip to Argentina.

As a Survivor's child, I could not help but be immensely proud of the work by the Museum.  My visit there some years ago was unforgettable and it is a cause worthy of everyone's support, especially at a time of revisionist history and mounting anti-Semitism.
