Why I like them/why I don’t:

What the hell can I say about Yuya that I haven't already said in the past decade. Arc-V is the series that got me out of my ygo hiatus and back into the series as a whole, and Yuya is a big part of that. I've written metas on him in the past which you can find on my blog, but whats always stuck out to me about Yuya is that he's kind of a pathetic depressed loser failure (best way possible) but still drags himself back up. We see him stumble so damn much throughout the show and he does fail and lash out and suffer and make things worse BUT HE STILL GETS BACK UP!!!!

HE!!! TAKES THE STEP FORWARD!!! WITH COURAGE!!! HE WEARS A SMILE!!!!!! NOT BECAUSE IT IS EASY!!! OR BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO PLEASE THE AUDIENCE!!! BUT BECAUSE A SMILE CAN HELP YOU FEEL COURAGE!!!!! BECAUSE PENDULUM IS THE RANGE, THE OSCILLATION BETWEEN JOY AND SADNESS!!! IT'S AN EXCHANGE, A CONVERSATION!!!! A WAY TO CONNECT WITH PEOPLE AND HAVE THEM UNDERSTAND YOUR VIEW!!! I've made the joke before but he is the closest analogue yugioh has ever had to shirou emiya which is a hilarious statement but it's true, from clinging to his fathers ideals because he knows no other way to live to his genuine mercilessness when pushed to the edge, all the way down to the living weapon metaphors and transfem subtext

What I like about their appearance: I think Yuya's design is unironically the best out of the protags, he just combines so many aspects of what makes previous protags designs work, but specifically I also love that they put him in different outfits. I have such a soft spot for his clown outfit and his riding duel outfit is sleek and minimalist.

Do I prefer their dub names or original names?: Sub only man, again I have a candid vitriol of YGO dubbing past DM because it turned any serious dubbing of ygo into a joke

OTP: As an Arc-V fan I'm under a binding geas so it is physically mentally and spiritually impossible for me to answer anything other than Fruitshipping here.

NOTP: probably the only one of these I hold but out of all the protag/rival ships across all ygo, yuya/reiji never actually compelled me all that much.

OT3: I while ago I made a post talking about how awesome the fucked up codependency of yuya/serena/shun could have been so yeah here. IG fruit salad also works here, any combination of the yuboys/bracelet girls is funny to me, selfcest is not just a suggestion but a necessity as well as a competition and THEY ARE WINNING

Favourite card they use: This one might be a hot take but out of the three archetypes Yuya blends in the Performapals, Odd-Eyes, and Pendulum Magicians, my favorite bar none and my fully fav archetype in all of yugioh is the Magician Pendulums. Yuya's own arc in the show is about differentiating himself from his father, and I think the Magician Pendulums stick out to me so much in this regard because they're HIS archetype: Performapals are from Yusho and the Dragons are from Zarc, but the Magician Pendulums are from Yuya!!!

I think Enlightenment Paladin and Nirvana High Palandin are my fav cards he ever uses, but Arc-V does this genius thing with action duels where it just wildly humanizes the monsters, so they all have tidbits of personality throughout the show and I love all of them.

Also obligatory shout out to Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon I love the big chicken and no one loves Yuya the way Odd-Eyes loves Yuya

Favourite moment they were in: Man. People thinking that Yuya just shouts Egao and fixes everything and that he never examines this when we have the Barret duel within ep91-92 where hes having a panic attack between saving Yuzu and just. discarding Smile World because he's so desperate to cling to his dad while also desperate to save Yuzu he is at one of his lowest lows here its just SUCH a good character moment that shows how much Yuya suffers from all the responsibility on his shoulders, self-imposed and otherwise

Least favourite moment: My live reaction- "Man, the Zarc duel was so fucking good!!! Literally peak yugioh, the best duel of all time! Alright so I bet we've got 1-2 more episodes to finish things off we've hit the series climax no way they can ruin this- Why are there 8 more episodes?"

Would I fuck, marry or kill them: im sorry yuya but move over im going to humiliate your older dragon god alter ego and shape the mattress like him

Since you’re doing a 03 rewatch. What’s your opinion on the main four characters

i love them!! They're my sons and I care about them so much.

Leo: Watching with a vague recollection of the series in its entirety is a lot of fun - for instance spotting early signs of Leo pinning his self worth to his role as leader/protector and how quickly he crumbles when that is thrown into chaos. I keep seeing little things jump out and thinking, "ooh, that's foreshadowing!" I value his character so much more than I did the last time I did a full watch. I used to find him annoying when I was younger but now I feel like I understand his character better, and I love him and want him to be happy. He's just such a dork!!! A clueless dork who never knows what's going on and says "grinditude" unironically while riding a scooter. This is our fearless leader everybody. I haven't made it to the battle nexus arc yet but I'm very excited to watch Leo have a romantic awakening in real time. 🙏🙏🏳️‍🌈

Raph: I forgot how FUNNY Raph is. His sense of humour is so dry and just roasting his brothers constantly and it really makes me laugh. I think I relate to Raph the most because I too have a short temper 😔😔 and my little sister manages to get under my skin the EXACT way that Mikey does to Raph so I understand the need to just whack him in the head 😭 I feel like he lays on the Mikey roasts a little thick though lol. I really love the twin energy he and Donnie give off in 2k3 as well, they're so fundamentally different but have a really natural dynamic that I love. To this day, I still don't understand how Raph immediately knows how to ride a motorcycle though!! One last thing: lone raph and cub was an amazing episode, easily one of my favourites from season 1. Really enjoyed him getting to be a mentor figure to a kid even brattier than him lmao.

Donnie: He's so gentle!!! Having just recently finished Rise, it's super jarring. Even when he shouts his voice is soft 😭 I'll admit it's really funny when the plot calls for an invention and he's immediately like "check out what I made earlier you guys!" Like Donnie. My guy. You have an insane amount of plot armour and it's hilarious to me. His dynamic with Splinter is really sweet - I love how Splinter praises his accomplishments and in the next breath is like Keep It Out Of My Fucking House. Also watching him try to do that stunt with the bo staff and just swinging around and falling was painful to watch but it made me laugh SO hard. Finally, the Kirby episode was really fun. I agree with Donnie, why can't the other guys learn to do basic things like flip a breaker switch or fix a sink? Someone teach all of them basic mechanic skills so Donnie isn't always having to pick up the slack 😭

Mikey: oh, my baby boy. I adore him. Mikey was my favourite turtle when I was younger and I remember him being my favourite the last time I rewatched. I'm in a place now where it physically pains me to choose a favourite turtle, it's like choosing between your kids 😭😭 but I do have a soft spot for Mikey because his natural talent coupled with no focus or drive is SO me when I was a teenager. I hope he doesn't ever develop gifted kid burnout because it will hit him like a train. I love how artsy and idealistic he is. It broke my heart when the other three were making fun of him in the turtle titan episode of s1. Like, why are yall bullying him for having a dream???? As I said before I haven't reached the battle nexus yet but I can't wait to see my angel take the crown. HE DESERVED TO WIN. END OF DISCUSSION. Lastly, he is Extremely Gender. I love that for him so much. From fully embracing drag to Donatello saying "gentlemen... and mikey"... 2k3 look me in the eye and tell me this wasn't for jokes I KNOW he's genderqueer!!! I know he is!!!!

Didn't meant for this to get so long but I just love them all so much!!! Besides the fact that I feel like they dunk on Mikey disproportionately, I adore their dynamic. They care for each other so much and it shows 😭😭

the sexuality i headcanon for them - she is a lesbian. as a bisexual woman, i will (to quote captain raymond holt of the nine-nine) slit aisling open from mouth to anus and wear her like a jacket if she makes shona canonically bisexual come s3. her entire plot arc points to the single conclusion that SHE IS A LESBIAN and i will accept nothing less. also, shona being a lesbian would give us an older lesbian character who had a relationship with a man and make a point about how being in a prior relationship with a man in our heteronormative, patriarchal society doesn't make you any less of a fucking lesbian

what i’d do if i could spend the day with them - sign her up for therapy, get her to teach me about investment, and make out

- this is actually something i really like doing in narration, calling a character something in dialogue or comparison and then directly calling them it in the narration

He understands; she doesn't want to show weakness to someone who could exploit her, doesn't want to show gratitude to someone she hates. But the tribeswoman is tired and scared and hurt, and it's obvious. She's broken, at least for today.

It seems like every time she looks away the moon goes from waxing to waning and back again, time marching onwards in one unending night, swallowing one unending forest.

Even with her limited view of the person’s face, Zazzalil can see the softness in their expression. She’s hit with a pang of longing for Jemilla.

They share those tender looks that make Zazzalil long for home.

The kind of silence only shared between people who can appreciate the simplicity of each other’s presence
