When i started disco elysium i thought, well, obviously Kim is normal and regular (I would later be proven wrong), so his clothes must be what regular cops wear in disco elysium world. But then we see other cops and they’re wearing like... black suits. Uniforms. And THEN it turns out that what Kim is actually doing is closet-cosplaying as a pilot of an airforce that doesn’t exist anymore. This is like if someone came to work in complete Civil War reenactment costume. Why does he do this? Because he just wants to i Guess
#that's why i think people overshoot a bit when they portray kim as the Ultimate Professional. he goes to work in cosplay#there's that one dialogue option where harry's like wait if cops wear uniforms why isn't kim in uniform#and the skills tell you ''he's in plainclothes VOLUNTARILY not because he lost his uniform like YOU IDIOT'' and like...#why actually did kim feel it prudent to turn up to the case in his little pilot outfit? is his cup of caring just THAT empty by that point?#is he actually deep down sorta starting to burn out on being in the rcm so he's just not bothering with the dresscode anymore?#more of my disco elysium impressions#posts by me#i mean we all Know the pilot cosplay represents his broken dreams and/or the little ways he vents his rebellious side#it's like listening to speedfreaks. it's these completely harmless little acts of nonconformism that don't ever actually bother anyone#so he gets to feel the cathartic thrill of being a little bit narsty without actually like... rebelling. (bit sad innit)#but this post isn't ABOUT that it's about him GOING TO WORK IN COSPLAY

theres an extra layer of depth to persona 5 when you play the game pretending the pc is a wayward teen butch okay it adds something okay i swear
#seas posts#replaying it ng+ bc im between games#im sure any queer reading would do this but *i* pretend my guy is a butch. a lackluster little loner butch#thats why the spirit of rebellion was alresdy so close to you thats why you dont mind leaving your hometown and also got an easy probation#their school seems to have decently lax uniform regulations and the unisex sport sweater has the same patterns as the pc’s#and uh. tomboy boku girls? gender nonconformity usually treated hand in hand with delinquency. i rest my case#i have a bad habit of picking up (old) first person media and going ‘’oh this guy is a woman’’ and then like. nope. mc not#and this shit… is like. an evolution of that power

langa with a crush who hides her identity during competitions
pairing: langa hasegawa x fem!reader
summary: langa is unaware that the mysterious skater from S and the girl from school that he likes are the same person...
you first caught langa's attention at S, during an underground skateboarding race
you seemed to win against every competitor with ease, yet you weren't as cocky about your victory as many others would've been
while others would let themselves be celebrated by everyone, you just slipped away from the crowd and tried to avoid others
langa couldn't even see your face, hidden behind a face mask and a hoodie that was pulled down too much
but he memorized what you wore and so during his next time at S, he started to look for you
and when he found you, asking you to race against him, you didn't even look at him, your head lowered
without even answering, neither accepting his request nor turning him down, you hurried away
the next time langa met you was at school, though by then he wasn't aware that he was talking to that mysterious person he met at S
no, you looked nothing like you did back then; wearing your school uniform and a skirt, unlike those gender nonconforming clothes you wore at S
without knowing it, langa had approached you to ask you to help him with something at school and he started to get closer to this side of you as well
for a long time, langa hadn't thought about that mysterious guy he saw at S, until the two of you crossed paths again one night
you were racing against another guy, when he tried to push you off your board while rounding a corner
langa watched as you lost your footing and fell onto the ground, your skateboard rolling a bit further until it came to a halt as well
he rushed towards you, seeing you laying there on the ground and when he carefully turned you around, langa was surprised to see your face
you were the girl from school! the same sweet and kind girl from school was that mysterious and distant skater that langa had assumed had been a guy all along…
though he didn't have much time to think about it any further, since you clearly needed to patch up your wounds and check if you broke anything
langa carefully picked you up and carried your unconscious body off the tracks
by the time you gained consciousness again, you were at a hospital, your ankle sprained and next to your hospital bed was langa, asleep on a chair
after all, he couldn't have let you alone and he needed to make sure you were alright
especially now that he knew that the skater he admired and the girl from school he liked were the same person…

we've talked about wyll's bit and we all know about astarion's bit but let's talk about gale's bit. let's talk about his presentation as the Ideal of what it is to be an archmage. the man wears purple velvet pajamas with an embroidered collar to camp in the underdark. he wears a gay little earring with mystra's symbol on it. its all fun and games to joke about his jammies but let's be clear: those things Fuck. he dresses well, he dresses richly, he is a wealthy lavish man who, in a world where things like long hair are not traditionally associated with femininity, is not what I would call gender nonconforming, but I think he does have a very interesting presentation.
robes and jewellery are traditionally associated with wizardry and femininity - or, if not femininity, at least nonmasculinity. theyre the garments of monks, eunuchs, and nuns, people who stand outside of the typical sex/gender binary for socially accepted reasons. traditionally most archmages are men (karsus, mordenkainen, elminster, etc) who perform this exact presentation. the doylist explanation is, of course, that dnd canon is inherently misogynistic, but the in-universe implication would suggest that to present in this way is not regarded as gender non-conformation but as class conformation. so our options are:
wizardry is for gayboys
'wizard' is its own gender
gender presentation is less important than getting that sweet sweet +1 spell save dc and everyone knows it
class is a gender modifier. this has interesting implications for the other classes - particularly ones like clerics, which might have prescribed uniforms or vestments - but given that faerun does have a not-insignificant classless, non-adventurer population- how does it work for them?
regardless, I think it's fair to say that gale's bit - like wyll's is the Blade of Frontiers and astarion's as the seductive rake - is The Archmage. he presents himself, from the start, as an academic, as a wizard. he's a friend of elminster, the (ex-)chosen of mystra, gale of waterdeep - he's everything a Wizard should be. even when he's tadpoled, camping in the woods, he carries a stack of unread books, wears mystra's symbol, wears his purple velvet jammies. he's presenting himself with care and thought, and giving a highly specific impression. I think it's really interesting that, as much as wyll and astarion, he's putting on a front, and it plays into his story. do you encourage the side of him that's ambitious and daring, the archmage, the man who pushes the boundaries of power and knowledge - or do you try to break that down, and place the value on the man who just wants to sit in front of the fire with his cat and read a book?
#gale dekarios#bg3 meta#bg3#gale 'dress for the job you want not the job you have' dekarios#and yes I know the speculation on wizard gender really just boils down to#'those guys can blow you up with their minds so really who cares'#but. play with me#play toys with me#i think this plays well with hcs about trans gale as well like....he's not performing Masculinity he's performing Wizardlinity.#but he is doing it in a concerted way he is emulating people who are the pinnacle of what he wants to be:#academic learned men who wield incredible power over reality itself#bc for gale 'god of ambition' ofwaterdeep it's not enough to appear as a wizard#he has to WIN at appearing as a wizard#I think they're all soooo interesting. is the thing#and I think it's fun how all the boys are doing their little Bits<3

cquackity has always been a little gender nonconforming for a man, and, well. gay ofc. it was fanon that his hair was around shoulder length even before the cc started trying the look out himself and gave us those awesome las nevadas cosplay pics, and cq loves romance, style, and using his cleverness instead of resorting to manly strength, even when schlatt would belittle him for not following manberg's toxic masculinity motif. he loved being a guy, but he didn’t see why he needed to follow the "rules" for what a man should look like let alone be.
so i think that in a genderbent dsmp, genderbent cq would (obviously) be a lesbian, but he wouldn't be a lipstick lesbian bc his whole thing is just not conforming to social expectations. I think her hair would still be around or even a bit less than shoulder length, and u cannot separate cquackity from beanies. cquackity would still love classy pants and dress shirts and a comfy but stylish tracksuit on the side. not a butch, just androgynous iggg
tbh I've in general never understood changing a character's self expression so much just bc of genderbending them, but i do feel like quackity is just so gnc that it would change much less than, in this case, cwilbur.
cwilbur has always strived for freedom at the heart, was a hippy when founding l'manberg, u could say. so with that curly ass hair genderbent cwilbur would absolutely have long, lucious hair that was set up in a professional bun during her short time as general and president of l'manberg (and her uniform would be the same obviouslyyy) and then got a little careless with it post revival, just keeping the knotty lengths in a ponytail. and I've seen someone say genderbent wilbur would be a butch lesbian b4, but idk if i agree. thoughts?
The ask about a gender bent au I guess
Honestly yeah no I fully agree with you, good take
Part about changing a character's self expression is especially based, honestly. It's definitely complicated cause gender - assigned at birth as well as identity - obviously heavily impacts us, but I feel like there's so many variables there that I just best to simply take the original character and only make a couple miniscule changes

Side Order Acht rambling (spoilers):
something i like about the Acht dev diaries is that you can see their transition progress in their school photos
the splatoon team mentioned before how inklings/octolings can change their form and like, we haven't seen any example of it in canon.. until side order! i didn't expect a queer/trans take on it and it's nice they went that route with it.
Acht went from looking like a typical octarian amazonian (i don't know the proper terminology lol) to having a very distinct appearance. was it their negative environment affecting them? maybe a little bit of depression, but also just them realizing over time that they don't fit that gender expression. besides their tentacles becoming increasingly droopy and blue, their uniform changed to be gender-nonconforming/nonbinary.
being constantly told that they aren't accepted by octarian society allowed them to sympathize with Order a bit. it's funny that out of our group, Acht was the one to notice that Order was basically a kid. a kid that wanted attention and was just repeating what other octarians wanted because it was assumed this responsibility to uphold those things.
the parallels!!

My Trans-Lesbian-Awakening Characters lol
Haruka Tenoh (Sailor Moon)
I believe Haruka was my first introduction to a lesbian and gender nonconforming (gnc) character! Discovering she was a girl along with Usagi and Minako blew my mind. The idea of a masc presenting girl was a revelation and I also found the fact other girls were attracted to her to be enviable, even when I watched the English version where her queerness was erased.
Trixie Tang (The Fairly Odd Parents)
The episode "The Boy Who Would Be Queen" was cathartic for young me. Although the episode was about overcoming gender stereotypes, Trixie's story felt relatable from a trans perspective. Her male persona outside of school and her interests in doing "boy stuff" but feeling pressured to maintain a feminine image for social acceptance resonated with me deeply. It's a shame we never got to see this side of Trixie outside the one episode.
Kaoru Matsubara (Powerpuff Girls Z)
I remember her introduction was her dodging a flock of fan girls on her skateboard. I was immediately pleased that the anime version of my favourite Powerpuff girl was that of a womanizing gender-bending skater girl lol. I felt annoyed along with her that she was forced to wear a skirt in her magical girl form.
Yui Goido (The World God Only Knows)
Even with her out-of-nowhere appearance in the second season, I was immediately enthralled by her princely demeanor and the way she casually blurred gender roles. I had to read her arc in the manga that was tragically skipped over and it screamed trans. Yui's conflict was her being forced to be traditionally feminine. Her body swapping and getting to live as a boy seemed to have given her gender euphoria that when she returned to her body, she started wearing the boys' school uniform, changed her hair to make it more androgynous, and started using "boku" to refer to herself (which is a masculine pronoun). Her personality also becomes a lot more confident, it's like watching a trans masc person finally be able to be themselves! The show may not appeal to me now but Yui was a big comfort character.
Mettaton (Undertale)
Mettaton's unique and subtle trans story felt so palpable to me that it made me resonate strongly with his character. When I learnt about his backstory, I felt genuine sympathy for him and his cousins. I love his charisma and how much queer energy he exudes!
Pearl (Steven Universe)
Pearl will always be a deeply important character to me for how much she contributed to my queer actualization. I think it's because I grew up with her as the cartoon series ran throughout my entire teenhood that she has been the most pivotal character for me. Getting to see this character who epitomized lesbianism and growth felt integral to my understanding of the queer community and myself.
Special mentions of just my overall queer comfort characters lol:
Haruhi Fujioka (Ouran High School Host Club), Yuu Kashima (Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun), Double Trouble (She-Ra and The Princesses of Power), Kou Seiya (Sailor Moon), Carmen Sandiego (2019 version), Ryuko Matoi (Kill La Kill), Frankie Stein (Monster High), Marceline (Adventure Time)

I’ve not seen it mentioned anywhere (bc nobody gives a fuck about her) but I’m still so mad that Alice Gulliver isn’t butch in the show like “omg this is the gayest mcu project ever” but you erase one of the few butch characters in comics and make her femme
LITERALLY
I haven't really brought it up here just bc I obviously have a lot of other stuff to talk about when it comes to Agatha, but it is something I've brought up irl with my roommate who's watching the show with me.
Alice has only been in, like, 3 comics, but she's got a very distinct presentation and she absolutely reads as a butch lesbian. Part of that, admittedly, is because she's usually in uniform, but still! To be fair, I do actually think M C U-Alice's style in the real world reads as a sort of butchy, alt biker aesthetic, but A) her outfit feels more costume-y and overwrought than the other characters, and B) she sheds those elements of masculinity or androgyny when they enter the trials and get their magic makeovers.
You know I hate to give "Teen" any credit for being a compelling character, but his budding friendship with Alice was one of the only parts of the show I was actually invested in. They both have a similar sort of alternative fashion sense which blends with gender-nonconformity, and I felt like a big part of their chemistry, besides being the youngest people in the group, was that immediate sense of recognition between them.

With the whole "Munson doctrine" bs. Eddie wasn't just against the jocks and the bullies (and there's no proof that he was seriously bullied? Just a bit of an outcast?). He was against anyone that was a part of what he called conformity. In that stupid speech on the table he called out people in band and those who like science for forced conformity. Other outcasts, other people that would have been bullied. Because they liked something he didn't.
It wasn't about self defense, it was an I'm right, you're wrong mentality, that his interests were the only valid interests.
Also, this is why I *hate* the idea of Eddie and Robin being friends or having some sort of alliance pre-s4 (or even pre-s3) because she's in band and likes band and he canonically criticized being in band as forced conformity. Why would she be friends with someone who is so vocally against something she enjoyed?
Oh yes I think Eddie has a bee in his bonnet about people who don't......conform.....to his brand of nonconformity. But I do think part of it is self preservation, or at least started out that way but grew into something else? Eddie is an outcast, has a non-nuclear family, and is poor, and all that shapes his view, but it also doesn't stop him from ostracizing people who he thinks aren't outcast enough or in the correct way (Subconsciously, at least.) Eddie thinks the only way to be a weirdo and a freak is to be loud about it, to be purposely obnoxious, to not even consider the normie hobbies or interests as something worth your time.
But as you've said band geeks and science nerds would also be in the crossfire. Heck, the party are all science nerds! I guess that didn't actually interfere with Eddie's interests though. Until inevitably a big county/state science fair or something would be on Hellfire night, and then it might have (except the Duffers would not have done that because they want to continue the nerd v jock thing happening that's just so stupid). He left Lucas out to dry, what's to say he wouldn't do the same to the other boys?
Part of what makes Eddie a fun and interesting character is that we get a glimpse of him starting to realize the strict us vs them, jocks vs nerds, conformity vs nonconformity binaries he's built around himself are not so clear-cut when he talks to Steve in the upside down. But it took him seeing Steve being a chill and kind guy, as opposed to Lucas who was in Hellfire since the beginning of the year to make him see that. Maybe he viewed Lucas as betraying them by joining basketball, but Steve, moving in the """opposite direction""" away from ""jockdom"" was what made it click for him. Eddie has a lot of issues to work through regarding expectations and nonconformity.
Oh. Yes I don't think, in canon, Eddie and Robin would be friends pre S4. Like I think aus that show us how he works through things (or at least tells us he did) can be fun. But when there's just the assumption that they'd be friends pre S4 or even pre S3 without either of them changing from how we were introduced to them? Uhg. Robin thinks Eddie is an annoying weirdo who stepped on her lunch one time :( and said the band uniforms were stupid and she took offense to that because he acted like it was their fault and not the school's. Eddie thinks Robin is some boring band dweeb and never thinks about her unless it's a vauge sort of "oh she's talking to Dustin" way.
It's also frustrating because Steve is often left behind in these AUs, and Eddie replaces him as Robin's best friend [at least at the start] One of the reasons stobin is so powerful is because they were both lonely losers who happened to find their forever friend in scoops ahoy. Robin having a close friend she's out to before that doesn't make sense, especially since it's heavily implied Steve is the first person she's told, which is why that scene means so much!
#eddie munson#stranger things#stranger things meta#findaanswers#anonasaurus#steve robin and eddie being friends is fun but one must remember that steve is a key component of that#without him idk if robin and eddie would work out haha

As much as we all love the Chanel boots tweet that literally did incalculable damage to Luke characterization in fandom PLEASE view the source material again he's not even fem really? He can be gay and not be hyperfem and teeny tiny and woobified? He's literally just some guy he's canonically buff and roughouses with the rebellion dudes and grew up shooting animals and doing dangerous stunts for funsies. Also ye the boots meme is funny but thats about the actual costume design of the film... Luke himself spends all his time in standard issue military uniforms and whatever magically appears in his trunk for meta symbolism reasons. Not that no one is allowed to play w Luke's gender & presentation obviously!! but like. Cmon
Yeah this. Like the more I read about luke the more I'm sure that he wouldn't have an inch of interest in fashion. His boots aren't even chanel it's just some old boots he found laying about probably. The most likely person to wear gender nonconforming/fem clothes is lando tbh. Also even if luke presented in a femme way this isn't the way to go about it, why is it that people always put him in his dead mother's clothes and act like it's all cutesy and sexy ffs

What Tomo-chan Is a Girl! gets wrong and right about gender-nonconformity and sexual assault
Content Warning: Discussions of sexual assault, groping on public transport, and victim blaming
Spoilers for Tomo-chan is a Girl!
Tomo-chan is a Girl! trips over its own plot with such style that I want to believe it’s all intentional. No matter how frustrating the tropes involved are, mangaka and series creator Yanagida Fumita manages to draw me back in with their follow-through. Using heartfelt sincerity and character-driven plot twists, Tomo-chan is a Girl! has quickly become one of my favorite shows, in spite of some thoroughly discomfiting scenes that detract from its comedic highs and powerful story.
Mangaka Yanagida’s frustrating habits start right away with the central conflict of the show. Tomo-chan is a tomboy among tomboys to the extent that her neighbor, childhood friend, and love interest Junichiro doesn’t realize she’s a girl until middle school, when she shows up in the girls’ uniform. The opening scenes of Episode 1 are pretty rough, with Gundou Misuzu, a girl Tomo-chan has been friends with since they were infants, telling Tomo that she is “getting what she deserves” because Tomo “only ever plays games that boys play.”
The first fix for Tomo’s problem? She needs to speak in a more polite, feminine way, but the attempt fails catastrophically. Jun starts teasing Tomo for talking like an old man, and Tomo-chan, whose father owns a karate dojo, ends up in a fist-fight with Jun—one she claims to have lost. Of course, Jun might have a different take on the outcome, given that he has the larger bandage the following morning.

we’re anne bonny and mary read together?
Maybe? Probably?
Things to remember: trying to put modern identity terms onto long-dead historical figures is a fools' game. We can talk about their actions, words, and feelings in their social context.
What we don't have: a first-person account of either of them detailing their sexual/romantic feelings for or encounters with the other.
What we do have: their early lives and two accounts of their actions on the ship.
Both Anne Bonny and Mary Read were originally dressed as boys by their parents--Mary's mother to receive an inheritance and Anne's father to be his clerk.
A General History of the Robberies and Murders of the most notorious Pyrates (1724) by Charles Johnson, generally considered our most reliable (thought still questionable) primary source of the Golden Age of Piracy, details Bonny and Read. They were both cross-dressing aboard Calico Jack's ship and apparently Bonny confessed an attraction to Read, Read then confessed she was a woman. The account turns to Calico Jack's reaction--we don't know if they began a relationship after this.
The account of Dorothy Thomas, a victim, only mentions that there were two women among the pirates, dressed as men, with weapons, who wanted to murder her. She mentions she knew they were women despite their clothes "from the largeness of their breasts", so jury's out on if they were actually passing as men, or just wearing clothes more comfortable for ship life.
Conclusion: Both women were cross-dressing female pirates on board the same ship, and at one point at least Bonny had a crush of Read. But the act of cross-dressing could go with identities we now call transgender, butch, gender non-conforming, being rebellious, or even simply practical. And remember, their cross-dressing was first encouraged by their parents as kids for financial reasons.
So here's what we know today, about the frequency of queer people in any population and common ways they might be expressed--including joining outcast groups, running away to sea (there's a reason navy uniforms are a standby in modern gay culture!), gender nonconformity, and there was a crush at some point.
So final answer: it's fair to say yes, they were together, as long as you acknowledge we aren't certain. Historians commonly need to make guesses about affairs, mistresses, and illegitimate children from similar details.

"You won," Quackity smiled, blood dripping from his busted lips. He laughed. "You actually won, man!"
Legends would echo the walls of the universe, of Quackity's valiant effort to make out with Joe Hills only to be stabbed in the back by the gender nonconforming foe. A girlboyboss, some would call him. Others would simply call it the Hills massacre.
Still, bringing a sword to a fistfight would ultimately be Quackity's demise here. While his soldiers stripped their uniforms in naked, queer solidarity, their general fell to his knees, covered in blood, as any sexyman should fall.
"Quackity, I..." Etho tried to push back any emotion, he had to remain strong for his Ethogirl Army which stood behind him weeping. Instead, he stepped forward and knelt in front of his ally, kissing his forehead. "Thank you, Quackity."
Tears mixed with blood and laughter, Etho helped Quackity lay back to rest in peace. He hoped they would preserve the body, preserve this memory.
Etho turned to his rallying crowd of defenders, as soon as Quackity's eyes fell shut and his breaths fell to silence.
"We fight for Quackity." Etho declared. "We fight for the fallen."

...your school was serious about pe? I thought these don't exist in this country. Like majority of people I know had "showed up - 3, brought uniform - 4, run for 15min - 5" experience
oh it was very deeply serious believe me. maybe we got unlucky with the teachers but they were all bitchy as hell and of course took their subject as the Most Important and always demanded 100% effort to the point of literal harassment & ableism
was always the universally hated kid in pe, both cuz disability n intersexness on top of gender nonconformity. people always talk abt pe being hell for a lot of us but oh my gawds for me it was NOT an exaggeration whatsoever, rest under the cut cuz you prompted me to talk & i shall
- was the doctors note kid. 100% of the time. we had multiple notes about our multiple conditions if needed. after a couple years when we stopped being a tiny kiddo and entered teens, the teachers just got tired of us always being impaired. they would act like it was just an excuse n yadda yadda... we still attended and done the best we could but it was maybe 20% of what the rest of the class did and then we would sit down but they wouldn't let us go into the changing rooms (for no fucking reason!) n sit while they played wtv ball game. the balls wld always fly in our direction 🫥
- started puberty very early. had short-ish hair. just a lot of gender ambiguous features fueled by our hormones n stuff, where different people will have different genderings and we suffered badly from this. we've really tried to like use either changing room and made both uncomfortable to the point we were just not allowed bc we made everyone suspicious and several ppl made a scene abt it so we were just changing in the toilets for the rest of our school years honestly probably from the sheer trauma n the odd comfort being alone provided, as opposed to 20 sweaty teens staring you down (this happened outside of pe all the time as well)
- this wasn't even the worst of it though... the worst were those yearly tests where you had to like pass these specific scores for a certain grade right n they'd always like really fearmonger abt it n make a huge deal of it. yk those uh 1km runs? that was 5 laps of our field, and i would /always/, without fail, pass out Cold as in drop to the ground, before the second lap and couldn't continue. the rest of the tests i wouldn't even passably perform (and they'd make us sore for DAYS) so they would have to pity me and give me the lowest.
and of course they'd again fearmonger w those in our last year too saying if we don't pass those we won't be let to take our exams n shit
needless to say i hate pe w a burning fiery passion
