I love the idea of ungrafted Godrick just being so smoll, near child sized, makes me wanna protect him more.

Btw I deep dived to find this images, for context this was around the time Godrick was trying to escape Lyndell so he begged (literally on his knees) to this outland soldier to help "mi'lady" escape Lyndell because Godrick's kin wishes him dead. After the soldier agrees to help Godrick they set off but are attacked, the soldier slays the attacks with ease. Godrick is grateful and wishes to knight the soldier, but as you can see he struggles to lift the soldier's blade

How do you rank the various freak ass gods in elden ring so far. Just in vibes and such.

ok now that i know them all:

godfrey: not at all what i imagined. very funny how he has a furry jojo stand preventing him from going beast mode. 5/10, ultimately just a big guy whose wife took his godhood in the divorce

godwyn: creepy. he looks terrible. 7/10 for being interestingly yucky (both bodies).

godrick: total scrub, which is very funny. once you see his ungrafted corpse, he really is the runt of the litter. 6/10 for yucky points.

godefroy: somehow a bigger scrub. 4/10 for no dragon

morgott: the quintessential fromsoft epic grandpa character. huge bastard the first time you meet him. the next few times feel less dire. resourceful little bastard, taking the capital city like that. 6/10

mohg: whats his problem lol. i love a boss that blabbers at you as you fight. NIHIL. i see the dlc semi-explains wtf he was up to so maybe ill find out some day. 7/10. good fights. semi-tricky.

radahn: WOULD. 9/10 fun fight too. all of your friends come in with everything for a HUGE murder!

malenia: the lady maria fight but if it sucked. her strat is to do biological warfare on you when she loses in hand to hand combat fair and square. 4/10 at least she looked cool.

miquella: dead (?)/10. sir not appearing in this game (so far). seems to be trying to fix problems instead of causing them, which is a nice change of pace. doing a bad job, though.

rykard: 8/10. freaky weird design, stupid motives, and a fun fight gimmick. TOGETHARRRR WE WILL DEVOURRR THE VERY GODS!! or whatever.

ranni: 6/10. shes fine. she does nothing for me. kind of a neat design i guess.

radagon: this is all your fault. 7/10 kind of a lame fight.

marika: what is her problem lol. 8/10 bc i love how she causes so many problems for no reason

the gloam eyed queen: pretty sure i know who this is. what the hell is her game. 6/10, inscrutable motives and the godskin apostle fights are just ok

When I finished this scarf two years ago I made a mistake and knit it one pattern repeat shorter than it should have been.

Finally decided to add that missing repeat and just make the scarf longer. I had an extra ball of yarn anyway.

I cut one stitch in the middle of a row and unpicked it both ways, knit on two repeats and grafted it back together. Then I found out I'd remembered the pattern wrong and had knit all sections with 7 DR, instead of 7 DR on the long bits and 5 DR on the short bits. Had to ungraft, rip back, reknit and regraft the scarf and finally knit the two new insertions.

Now I can wrap the scarf around once!

Six on Saturday: Copy Machine

This is not about a machine that makes copies. It is five pictures of copies and a machine that Rhody could make very good use of. 1. Citrus paradisi ‘Marsh’ grapefruit was doing well until some sort of caterpillar that ate much of the foliage off of the passion fruit vines found it. This is an ungrafted cutting, so could eventually grow into a humongous shade tree if it survives this late…

My newest elden ring hc is that pre-grafted Godrick was really good at dancing. But he wasn't very keen on flaunting that side of him lol

Post-grafting, he has lost much of his precision due to the serious asymmetry of his body but some inkling of grace can still be felt in his steps. He is still very good with his hands though (🤫)

I've spent a long time trying to draw this & still haven't managed yet but another thing I've been contemplating in the meantime wrt this is this passage abt the trees at the convent:

Almost all the trees in the orchard were ungrafted, and wild. [Jean Valjean] budded them and made them produce excellent fruit.

and I keep thinking how much grafting as a concept adds to this particular sort of body horror. not to mention "made them produce excellent fruit". but also I don't know how one would properly communicate that because I feel grafting implies a certain degree of deliberate specific intention and care that jvj doesn't have in this particular moment/situation

i feel like you could do something so fun & compelling by juxtaposing specifically the image of valjean using a knife to cut javert's rope bonds with the imagery of a pruning knife cutting away dead wood + then the growth after that (re: tree pruning -> "a heart of wood cannot be softened" -> "a terrible situation! to be touched ... suddenly to become aware of the fact that one cherishes beneath one’s breast of bronze something absurd and disobedient which almost resembles a heart!" + all the growing/blooming energy around hearts/souls in the book). not just for the knife factor (although visually that's really good) but also. something something the body horror of having something (even something as good as a heart) growing inside you against your will (& even more so when it's like. metaphorically a fucked up plant. imagine having a plant in/as your circulatory system. metaphorically) contrasted with the emotional/moral horror of having him save your life against your will & the resultant change of heart. like some sort of way cooler & more thematically interesting cousin to hanahaki disease. anyways someday maybe this will escape the purgatory of my one million drawing wips but until then.

I have an addition, if you allow me.

Ranni's and Godrick's throne in Leyndell is the same size, but they weren't similar in height by any means. Ranni was very tall as you showcase, but Godrick is only slightly taller than the Tarnished if you compare sizes with his ungrafted body in his arena. He is probably anywhere between 185-190 cm tall (the player model of the Tarnished is around 175 cm). So the Leyndell thrones aren't really reliable in this aspect, I'd much rather rely on everything else you show above that (Ranni's real body, Rykard's throne in his manor).

I guess the Leyndell thrones were just to slightly indicate who was smaller in stature, without much accuracy.

Tho, Godrick's ungrafted body is a reused model of the commoners.

how tall do you think the carian siblings were pre-shattering? i figure maybe rykard and radahn's great runes could've made them grow, but even ranni's body looks to be around 8ft tall, and then there's rennala of course. just wondering what others think about it

I did answer a similar question in the past but this time I’ll actually go more in-depth:

so I made this (admittedly loose) chart using stuff from the game to try to estimate Rykard and Ranni’s heights

for Rykard the only thing we really have to go off of is his throne in Volcano Manor’s ruined audience chamber. as you can see he’d have to be pretty massive to sit his ass down in that chair so I scaled up my drawing accordingly to like the minimum height he’d have to be

then we have Ranni’s corpse to look at, but she’s kinda curled up on the ground so I tried to reconstruct her proportions standing up straight vs. the tarnished for scale. it looks like she was a really similar height to Blaidd which is super sweet!

for Radahn we unfortunately don’t have anything in-game that can help give us a solid pre-shattering height estimate… there is that one painting where he’s fighting Morgott, but I can’t really use a painting to get a reliable sense of scale.

we do have the demigod thrones to give us a vague idea of heights, though… Rykard and Radahn’s thrones seem to be a similar size, so that kind of confirms that Radahn was closer in height to his brother back in the day:

personally I imagine Radahn was always the tallest sibling, with Ranni being the shortest… I think her being small is fitting because Rennala calls her “little Ranni” :)

which is funny because compared to normal people they’re all enormous like Ranni is 8ft tall at minimum

Fertilizing them on the regular like that really does make all the difference. Remember how I’ve been complaining that the plasma tree Smiler took with them when they moved in with Victor and Alice, and that got replanted in the greenhouse, hasn’t actually fruited in forever? Well, I was going to have Victor just uproot it, but then I thought, “hang on -- in order to complete his Freelance Botanist aspiration, Victor has to graft three plants. And grafting forces a plant to regrow with the results of the graft. What if I grafted something onto the plasma tree and forced it to regrow with both plasma and a different fruit? I know that works, I successfully hybridized an apple tree with a plasma tree cutting before. . .heh, why don’t I take a cutting from the Tree of Emotions and graft that onto the plasma fruit tree, see what happens?”

A Last Exception, that’s what happens. At least the first time I tried it. Also Victor t-posing briefly and the graft not taking, despite it counting toward the aspiration. I tried it again later, only to fail again, then checked the error after I was done -- it looks like the problem is the graft was specifically for vimberries (as that’s what the tree was producing at the time), and the game didn’t know what to do with that, since that’s not actually a type of plant that you can grow. So I’m guessing the Tree of Emotions, since it puts out like six distinct kinds of fruit anyway, is ungraftable. *shrugs* We have learned something new today, folks! Just happy it didn’t bork my save in the process. . .
