This unfurling (I'm obsessed with that word, obviously) leaf 🍃 of my Calathea 'Medallion' is just gorgeous! You can see the pattern if you look close and it will become more colorful as it opens and the light ☀️ hits it. I guess the word is really hitting home right now as unfurling leaves show the hope of renewed life. We are all tired of staying home, wearing masks, staying away from our loved ones, and want life to be as it was. It isn't going to happen soon, if ever, but the new way will be okay, right? I have two leaves 🌱 unfurling on my Monstera deliciosa. 🥳 That is my favorite word this week- unfurling. Whether for ferns 🌿 or monsteras, it applies. The curled leaves are unrolling. They will turn a darker green 💚 as they receive more light. ☀️ Picture #3 shows my Monstera adansonii with part of the leaf darker as it has been in the light longer than the rest of the leaf. As always, my plants amaze me everyday. That is the best part of growing plants- every day is different. Remember, the word of the week is unfurling (may not be one next week, but it seemed a good idea at the time..). Yesterday, while watering, I noticed that my ZZ plant has two new leaves emerging. 🌱 I'll show you more pictures as it unfurls more.This ZZ sits in my east window 🧭 and enjoys the morning sun. ☀️ It could take a much lower light situation if you have a darker (some light needed) place that needs a plant. Still on the word of the week- unfurling. Here is the leaf 🌱 from yesterday (picture from afternoon before) that was tightly furled and here it is today. The sun ☀️ was shining yesterday, it was hot in the sun room, and the plants were soaking it up. So was I! 😎 Our plants are waking up here in the northern part of the US 🇺🇸 and hopefully you have started your fertilizer regime. I water💧the sunroom with a hose attached to my laundry room sink (so I can use warm water) so these plants may only get fertilized 2x a year. That is fine. Remember, light ☀️💡 is the food for your plants, fertilizer is simply like your plants taking a vitamin💊.
