By nearly all accounts, it was a peaceful day in Cloud Recesses. (My only published fic - Where We Fit in This Strange New World, MDZS post-canon)

“Are you ever going to tell him?” Mitsuya asked carefully, thumb rubbing gently over the protruding bone of your ankle, legs resting on his lap.

“There is nothing to tell.” you replied with a lazy shrug, gaze slipping past his lilac one to turn its attention to the other corner of the room.

“You’ve been in love with him since I can remember.” his voice betrayed sadness and a tad bit of disappointment, thumb stuttering over the bone, its circular motion turning into rhythmic taps.

“We’re 18, Taka.” you chuckled, hand sliding off the lap and onto the couch as fingertips pressed into the material. “Considered to be adults now. Honestly? We are still children with a bit more personality and maturity than a year ago. It will pass before you know it, don’t worry.”

The certainty which you spoke with did not fool Mitsuya in the slightest, hand moving away from the ankle to allow its fingers to intertwine with yours on the couch in a spot hidden away from any prying eyes. Lower lip quivered faintly at the warm, welcoming touch of your best friend, teeth clashing against each other in an attempt to keep all the emotions at bay. Mitsuya squeezed reassuringly, silently promising to be there for anything you might need now or in the future - one filled with uncertainty.

"This is not right." Mitsuya sighed deeply, watching how two of his best friends were denying themselves of each other.

Over the heads of friends you would never forget, two pairs of eyes melted into each other as they spoke in a language not understood by many - lips curving upwards to steal the sadness that laced yours. Stone hard knot obstructed your throat as words stumbled against it, heartbeats intensifying with each second that passed between yours and Draken’s silent conversation - he knew exactly what were the words that begged to slip past your lips, words that held in their grasp a power buried willingly in favor of seeing you thrive somewhere else.

His usually unbothered expression and defined by sharpness features were nowhere to be found, being replaced by a peaceful softness you have not been graced before with. Yearning, gripped tightly by an understanding Mitsuya did not had, battled inside of Draken's heart, knowing that even the slightest gesture could derail any plans you have built - the words he wished for you to say were now dancing along Draken's tongue, sliding back down his throat as the chance had been forever lost.

“I’m leaving for three years.” you whispered, afraid of allowing volume to envelop your voice due to the cracks beginning to show in it, fingers tightening their grip on Mitsuya’s hand as his attention was pulled away from Draken and back to your conflicted expression - university in Europe, he remembered with a sadness kept at bay by his willingness to support the decision. “Tomorrow when the plane will take off, he’ll be in good hands.”

“What did you do?” Mitsuya's furrowed brows hiding panic, head snapping towards Draken’s direction again as his eyes widened realizing what - or who - was the root cause of a secret that had no place in staying hidden.

Draken's eyes shifted away from you, the person that was not going to be around anymore for the next three years, or ever again, and captured another pair that had been searching his for the past 10 minutes. A colorful, yet quiet, chuckle slipped away seeing him laugh with the girl that deserved him more than you did - Emma Sano, the person that was never going to leave his side no matter what life was going to throw at them. The person that has loved Draken long before you even had the chance to.

“The hands I willingly placed him in.” happiness danced around the notes of your voice laced with sadness, pain trying to fight its way out through the cracks of a heart fated to love the person that has never been yours since the beginning.

Three years later, two people were standing in front of each other on the busy sidewalk outside the airport, studying the passing of time across their faces with small, soft smiles tugging at the lips that were yet to say a word.

Eyes melting into each other, hearts beating in a sync and rhythm known only by them, one hand reached to finally catch in its grasp the missing piece - that night before you left, Mitsuya was told a lie.

"It will pass before you know it, don’t worry."

As Draken stood before your very eyes, the reality of the lie hit into the depths of your soul, slipping through the cracks of a heart full of yearning - it had never truly passed.

Three years later, you loved him even more than when you had left.
