Amanda Serrano vs. Stevie Morgan Preview and Prediction

Published: July 05, 2024
The 2023 Boxing Writer's Association of America (BWAA) Female Fighter of the Year, Amanda "The Real Deal" Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KOs), will step into the squared circle for the first time in 2024. Serrano returns as the co-main event to Jake Paul's intriguing match with former MMA and bare-knuckle boxer Mike Perry on July 20 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL.
Serrano, the only female seven-division world champion in boxing and a former undisputed featherweight champion is set to face local Tampa, Florida native Stevie Morgan (14-1, 13 KOs) in a 10-round super lightweight match. This match, contested under the two-minute round format, promises to be a unique and thrilling event. Morgan, a taller and bigger fighter at 5'8, has a record of scoring knockouts in all but one of her victories.
"I've already been preparing for a fight on Saturday, July 20, and even though I'll now be waiting a little longer for my rematch with Katie Taylor, this is an opportunity for me to face another tough boxer in Stevie Morgan in Tampa," Serrano stated about facing Morgan.
"My opponent has 13 KOs, more than almost every other active female boxer, but I fear no woman – I embrace the war. I look forward to seeing all my Puerto Rican fans in Tampa for my 50th professional fight to show the world my skills at super lightweight, live on DAZN PPV."
Although Serrano held a world title at super lightweight, the division thus far has been nothing more than a pitstop for the seven-division champion. Serrano's previous fight at super lightweight took place in 2018 when she defeated Yamila Reynoso to win the vacant WBO title. Afterward, in an unprecedented move, she went all the way down to the super flyweight division to win another vacant championship. Her only other fight at super lightweight was over a decade ago, in 2013, against Kerri Hill.
Compared to her contemporaries, both female and male, Serrano is one of the most active elite fighters in all of boxing. Her thirst for competition has rarely been quenched. In 2021, the Puerto Rican legend participated in three boxing matches and one MMA bout, which she won by submission. In 2023, she fought three times and participated in the first women's boxing match to have 12 three-minute rounds in years.
Earlier this year, in March, in what was supposed to be a coronation and celebration of her career on her native island of Puerto Rico, Serrano was scheduled to defend her featherweight titles against Germany's Nina Meinke. However, an unprecedented and puzzling incident forced Serrano and the Puerto Rico Boxing Commission to stop the fight from happening not only on the day of the fight but mere hours before they were set to be in the ring. A chemical from a hair dye got into one of Serrano's eyes, and although she was prescribed eye drops, it was determined that she wasn't fit to fight Meinke.
If the rematch with Taylor for her undisputed super lightweight crown wasn't on the horizon, there is little doubt that Serrano would be facing Meinke on July 20.
PREDICTION
Morgan's advantage is in the unknown. Her record suggests she is a big puncher, but her athleticism could give Serrano genuine problems. The Puerto Rican has shown some vulnerability when an opponent isn't willing to engage and utilizes a strategy with lateral movement. Morgan has also fought the majority of her professional fights in Columbia. An opportunity to fight in her hometown against one of her era's most popular female fighters should be highly motivating.
"We've been training for an opportunity like this, and I want to give full respect to Amanda for all she has done in her career and for women's boxing," Morgan stated. "In this sport, though, in order to make a name, you have to take a name. I have 13 KOs, and nothing will be sweeter than making Amanda Serrano number 14."
Despite Serrano's age, she hasn't shown many signs of slippage. More importantly, her determination and obsession to continue fighting is almost unmatched in all combat sports. The size difference could be an issue in the first half of the bout, but Serrano is likely to set a pace that will prove to be unyielding for Morgan to keep up with. Power may play a smaller factor than anticipated. The bigger puncher is always the one who can take their opponent's punch, regardless of what their records indicate.
Look for Serrano to overwhelm Morgan in an exciting fight and stop her opponent with body punches in the later rounds.
Prediction:
Serrano by late-round stoppage via body punches.

The Pound-for-Pound Rankings Featuring Cameron, Taylor, Shields
Tumblr media
Katie Taylor's revenge victory over Chantelle Cameron produced a shift in the women's pound-for-pound rankings. Taylor, who became the first person in history to win two uncontested world championships, is now unrivaled in super lightweight. She nearly missed out on overtaking Claressa Shields for the top spot. Shields retained the title by a split decision.
In other developments, Alycia Baumgardner has been pulled from the rankings after testing positive for a forbidden drug. Baumgardner was cleared by an independent testing organization she hired, but the tribunal deemed this insufficient. She may be regraded in the future if the relevant commissions/authorities approve her to fight.
The article also includes a list of the best 12 female boxers based on pound-for-pound performance, as well as their records and titles. Marlen Esparza has won many flyweight titles, Mikaela Mayer is a former super-featherweight champion, and Delfine Persoon is a former lightweight champion. Savannah Marshall is the undisputed super middleweight champion, while Dina Thorslund is a former super bantamweight and current bantamweight champion.
Yakosta Valle holds the IBF/WBO minimumweight title, Natasha Jonas is the IBF welterweight champion and reigning super welterweight champion, and Seniesa Estrada is on her way to become the WBA minimumweight champion.

The full card for Shields-Marshall is available and it’s a LOT. Admittedly, only the top two fights should be competitive. The rest are show case fights for women who are the future of women’s boxing.
Claressa Shields (12-0) vs Savannah Marshall (12-0) - for the WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, and WBF middleweight titles. Arguably the biggest fight to make in women’s boxing right now. Shields is a two division undisputed champion, the only in modern history male or female. Marshall is a KO artist who has been brutalizing the division since going pro and is the only women to ever beat Shields (back in like 2012 when Shields was like 17), pro or amateur. It’s a rematch that’s been a decade in the making.
Mikaela Mayer (17-0) vs Alycia Baumgardner (12-1) - For the IBF, WBC, and WBO super featherweight titles. Another unification match. Another top 5 fight in women’s boxing. Mayer, a former Olympian, has shown she has deserved the push she has gotten from Top Rank in the ring. She has knocked off like 5 straight former world champions en route to this fight. Baumgardner isn’t supposed to be here. She was supposed to be Terri Harper but inserted herself into this fight by knocking Harper out and showing she’s a legit P4P talent in the sport, having been overlooked by promoters and boxing media for years. Now she’s got the biggest stage of her career thus far.
Caroline Dubois (3-0) vs Milena Koleva (10-14-1) - first showcase fight. At lightweight (135lb). Dubois is a former Olympian and sister to heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois. She is extremely skilled and at 21, I have no doubt she will be a world champion in the near future.
Lauren Price (1-0) vs Timea Belik (6-6) - welterweight. Lauren Price is an Olympic gold medalist at middleweight who has moved down to 147lbs. She’s got amateur wins over Savannah Marshall and is one of the best prospects in women’s boxing right now. She’s probably going to be fighting for a world title in the near future.
Shannon Ryan (2-0) vs Buchra El Quaissi (3-2-3) - another showcase. Ryan is a former Olympic TKD fighter, who transitioned to kickboxing before coming to boxing. She’s got a unique background for the sport and with Anthony Joshua as her manager, I’m interested to see how she does long term.
Ginny Fuchs (1-0) vs Gemma Ruegg (5-4) - at flyweight. Fuchs was the longtime captain of USA boxing. A bronze winner at the world championships and former Olympian, she has the technical skills and athletic ability to make a run at a flyweight world title.
Karriss Artingstall (1-0) vs Marina Sakharov (5-16-2) - featherweight bout. Artingstall is a 2020 Olympic bronze medalist for team GB. She’s long and sharp. She’s got a considerable amount of polish for someone who only has one pro fight.
April Hunter (5-1) vs Erica Juana Gabriela Alvarez (3-6)
Ebonie Jones (2-0-1) vs Vanesa Caballero (4-15-3)
Sarah Liegmann (4-0) vs Bec Connolly (3-15)

MMA Top 5 Pound for Pound
As a long time fan of MMA, the UFC matchmaking in recent years has been the best it's ever been. Going into 2018 my most anticipated match ups were Khabib vs Conor and the Jones vs Gustafsson rematch, which the UFC delivered on. Even the recent announcements are amazing and I’ll be tuning in to some great match ups scheduled all spring and summer. With that being said we’ve also seen a good amount of super fights and champion vs champion match ups. As of right now there doesn’t look to be any more super fights in the works, as most of the divisions have newly crowned champions or clear cut contenders in the rankings. That makes this a good time to make a pound for pound list based on what i factor into pound for pound. There are many factors to consider when making these which is why everyone’s opinions tend to differ so much compared to boxing, however I’ve narrowed mine down to these 5 in this order.
1. Skill Level in all areas (striking, clinch work, ground)
2. Level of opposition beaten
3. Gameplanning/ fight iq
4. Physical attributes (speed, reach, KO power, etc..)
5. Heart (will to win, determination)
Here is my list for the top 5 pound for pound fighters in the world today:
5. Amanda Nunes (UFC Bantamweight & Featherweight Champion)
Tumblr media
This was the toughest spot to determine with plenty of other fighters who could make a good case but looking at what Nunes has done you cannot deny her. She has the skills in all areas, KO power like a female Tyson and one of best resumes in the sport male or female. First she destroyed Miesha Tate to win the title and that was more of a beat down than competitive fight. Then gave Ronda Rousey an even worse beat down in her return and attempt to reclaim the title. Defended against probably the most well rounded and skilled women’s fighter in Shevchenko in a hard fought decision. Her greatest feat in my eyes that propels her to this height on the list is knocking out Cris Cyborg, who was on a 20 fight win streak, looked unbeatable and is naturally bigger and fights 10 Ibs above Nunes’ weight class, was considered the women's GOAT. For Nunes to go and knock her out in that fashion, instantly makes her the GOAT for women’s mma.
4. Max Holloway (UFC Featherweight Champion)
Tumblr media
Out of every fighter on this list Holloway is the youngest and really has potential to be number one for many years if he continues the momentum he has right now. Holloway is currently on the longest win streak in the UFC with 13 consecutive wins and most of those wins coming against in my eyes against the toughest level of opposition other than the number one fighter on this list. He came in at 20 years old basically as just a striker and has evolved into one of the most well rounded fighters in the sport. His boxing skills, footwork, cardio and pace is just a puzzle that  no one's been able to solve while hes on this run, and he gets better every fight. Beating Pettis a former lightweight champ for his interim title and then beating Aldo for the undisputed belt twice is such an impressive feat. Both of those guys were at some point in the top 5 pound for pound and then he goes on to dominate Ortega in a one sided beat down of a title fight. He just gets better every fight and if he is successful in his next fight against Poirier for the interim lightweight title next weekend, it sets up a clash for pound for pound status against the next entry..
3. Khabib Nurmagomedov (UFC Lightweight Champion)
Tumblr media
Years before Khabib was even in the top rankings the mma world usually referred to him as the “uncrowned champion”. Now that he is the champion we see what the hype was about, as he’s displayed the best grappling skills, tenacity and high pace we’ve ever seen against other top competition. There’s not much else to say all we’ve seen him do is get a hold of his opponent and just maul them round after round. His striking and stand up skills has also come a long way which he displayed in his two most recent fights with Conor and Iaquinta. His skills are undeniable and his fights with Johnson, Barboza, Iaquinta and Conor were complete dominations other than a select few moments in fights. He’s one of the few fighters that look to be almost unbeatable, with a 27-0 record, almost unheard of in the sport. The only factor holding him back from being number one is oppositions he’s faced. Not to discredit him any way because i do believe he’s the best lightweight in the world and favour him to win against anyone in the division. I can’t ignore the fact that Ferguson and Poirier have both fought against tougher and more stiff opposition on their rise through the ranks and arguably have a better resume of recent wins. I don’t think a bout with Poirier would be very competitive, however him vs Ferguson is the fight needed to establish who the best lightweight is and establish Khabib as the greatest lightweight of all time and possibly fighter of all time.
2. Daniel Cormier (UFC Heavyweight Champion)
Tumblr media
DC is one of the greatest wrestlers the sport has ever seen, and has used that world class wrestling base to rise to the status of one of the greatest of all time. He has beaten and dominated almost all of his opposition except one man, and had a close hard fought win over Gustafsson. His clinchwork and dirty boxing is one of the hardest to deal with for any opponent, he has an amazing chin and big KO power in his hands, especially has a heavyweight. He also has one of the best resumes ever beating names like Stipe, Gustafsson, Rumble Johnson, and Henderson. His greatest feat which puts him this high on the list is holding both the light heavyweight and heavyweight titles at once, the second fighter ever to do it after Conor, against a much more dominant champion than Conor beat to win his second title. The story of Cormier’s career would be picture perfect and he might be regarded as the greatest of all time if he happened to exist in another era. However there is one fighter that has been his kryptonite in terms fighting and championship legacy and he also happens to be number one on this list..
1. Jon Jones (UFC Light Heavyweight Champion)
Tumblr media
Jon Jones the current UFC light heavyweight champion where do you start. Firstly i’ll address the controversy surrounding his drug tests and failures for PEDs. If you do not agree with him being on the list due to the drug cheating controversy you have every right to feel that way and i would not argue against you. With that being said he is still an active fighter at the moment and the commissions clear to him to fight so being as objective as possible I include him on the list. Now to his fighting, Jones was the youngest champion ever at just 23 years old and has never been beaten in the cage. Skill wise he checks all the boxes coming in as a wrestler, now developed into one of the most dynamic strikers and most well rounded fighter in the world. He also has the most impressive resume of any fighter ever to me here’s just a short list: Cormier 2x, Gustafsson 2x, Machida, Evans, Shogun, Rampage, Vitor etc..
That’s 6 former champions he's beaten more than any other fighter ever and other than his first fight with Gustafsson he’s dominated every single one of them. He has the longest reach in UFC history and manages distance better than any fighter i’ve ever seen, and has the heart to dig deep even when losing which he showed in the first Gustafsson fight to edge out the decision in the championship rounds. Since his comeback he beat Gustafsson to clear up any debate in that matchup finishing him this time and also outclassed Anthony Smith for 5 rounds. He's fighting smarter than ever now and with his skills, physical attributes and approach. I don’t see him losing at light heavyweight however he does have one weakness in his game but i think only a select few fighters have the skill to exploit it and execute it at heavyweight where one punch is all it takes.

Taylor vs. Serrano 2 will be the co-main event of Paul vs. Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with their rematch to be contested for the undisputed super lightweight championship as Taylor puts all her super lightweight belts on the line
Pound-for-pound stars Taylor and Serrano previously made history as the first-ever female fighters to headline Madison Square Garden, a bout that garnered both fighters global acclaim and earned the pair the distinction of Sports Illustrated’s Fight of the Year and The Ring’s Event of the Year in 2022
Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) today announced that after two years, Matchroom’s undisputed super lightweight world champion Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs), will step back in the ring for the most anticipated rematch in women’s boxing history against boxing trailblazer and unified featherweight champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KOs). Taylor vs. Serrano 2 will stream live globally, exclusively on Netflix on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from the 80,000-seat capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
Taylor vs. Serrano 2 will be the co-main event to the recently announced heavyweight match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson as part of Netflix and MVP’s first-ever partnership. This will mark Taylor and Serrano’s long-awaited rematch following their historic bout at Madison Square Garden in 2022, where they made history as the first ever women fighters to headline an event in the iconic venue’s history. The bout ended in a narrow split decision in favor of Taylor and garnered global acclaim for both fighters earning Sports Illustrated’s Fight of the Year and The Ring’s Event of the Year for 2022. Taylor vs. Serrano was also nominated for Sports Business Journal’s Event of the Year, a testament to the global reach and power of the event. The rematch between the ESPN-ranked pound-for-pound powerhouses, #2 Taylor and #3 Serrano, will be contested for the undisputed super lightweight championship marking a jump of three weight classes from Serrano’s normal featherweight division as Taylor puts all her super lightweight belts on the line. The women’s undisputed megafight will be contested across 10, two-minute rounds, Serrano’s only break from fighting 12x3, the men’s championship standard, for the remainder of her career. Paul vs. Tyson and Taylor vs. Serrano 2 is anticipated to be the biggest boxing event in modern history, and fans can sign up for presale ticket access at mostvaluablepromotions.com.
Irish sensation Katie Taylor once again reaches for greatness as she meets Amanda Serrano in a rematch – with Taylor looking to add another remarkable chapter to her incredible boxing career as she defends her undisputed Super-Lightweight title. Taylor defeated Serrano at a sold-out Madison Square Garden in April 2022 in a stunning fight of the year contest that saw Taylor successfully defend the undisputed Lightweight title that she won in the same arena in June 2019 against Belgian Delfina Persoon. Taylor became a two-weight undisputed champion in her last outing in November, overcoming Chantelle Cameron in a rematch of their closely fought battle in April, with both fights taking place at a sold-out 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland. She first got her hands on world honors in her seventh pro fight, claiming the vacant WBA Lightweight title in Cardiff against Anahi Sanchez in October 2017, and has been in 17 straight world title contests since that night en-route to becoming a two-weight undisputed ruler.
"This is the rematch the world has wanted to see and I’m delighted that it’s finally happening,” said Katie Taylor. The first fight in New York was obviously an epic occasion and it more than lived up to the billing, and I’m sure the rematch will be no different. I want to thank Matchroom and DAZN for their help in making the fight possible and I’m looking forward to defending my titles as Undisputed World Champion in Dallas on Saturday, July 20.”
Amanda Serrano, the first-ever Puerto Rican undisputed world champion and seven-division world champion, started her current featherweight title reign by defeating Heather Hardy in a brutal 10-round fight in 2019 to win the WBO belt, and has since defended her WBO belt six times. Serrano offered Hardy a chance at redemption in August 2023, but successfully defended her undisputed featherweight world champion title for the first time in a decisive 10 round unanimous decision victory. Serrano also won a blood-soaked war against WBA featherweight champion Erika Cruz in February 2023, which made her the undisputed featherweight champion. Serrano’s decisive win against Cruz followed her previous win over Sarah Mahfoud in Manchester, England that added the Dane’s IBF title to her WBO, WBC, and IBO featherweight belts. Most recently, Serrano took home a unanimous decision victory against her mandatory WBO challenger Danila Ramos, making history in the first-ever women’s unified world championship to be fought over 12, three-minute rounds, equal to any men’s championship fight, and marking the first time a women’s fight has gone the full 12x3. Serrano threw a career high 1,103 punches in the bout. In a true commitment to change for women’s boxing, Serrano recently vacated her WBC title, as the sanctioning body does not support women’s choice for 12x3. Serrano, whose natural weight is 126 pounds, now steps up to super lightweight to face Taylor for the second time, aiming to add the Irish fighter’s belts to her current featherweight hardware in what would be a championship in her eighth weight class.
“I promised my fans they would see this rematch after we made history at MSG and it feels like a dream come true to know that Katie and I are finally making it happen on the biggest stage possible to show the world what elite women’s boxing is all about,” said Amanda Serrano. “While my focus continues to be on giving women the choice to fight with the same rules as men, I’ve always said that this is the one fight I’d go back to 10x2 for if that’s what Katie wanted. I’m coming for her belts, she wants 10x2, so that’s what we will do. I believe I won our first fight, but I didn’t get the decision, so this time I’m not leaving it to the judges. I am honored to share this iconic MVP card in the biggest stadium, on the biggest streaming platform in the world. Thank you Nakisa, Jake, Mike and Netflix for making this happen. And to all the young girls and women watching, I want you to know that anything is possible. Keep dreaming, keep working hard, and never let anyone tell you otherwise. It took me 15 years of blood, sweat and tears to get here, but it’s all worth it because I’m living my dreams.”
Taylor vs. Serrano 2 marks the latest in MVP’s series of significant women’s championship fights as the company works to establish equity across the sport. The event follows Amanda Serrano’s first-ever 12x3 unified championship fight vs. challenger Danila Ramos in October and the Paul vs. August special championship feature of MVP’s Shadasia “The Sweet Terminator” Green vs. Franchón Crews-Dezurn for the WBC and WBA super middleweight world titles.
“When we announced Paul vs. Tyson, we stated that this would be the most-watched boxing event in modern boxing history and we’re here to deliver on a card worthy of that greatness,” said Nakisa Bidarian and Jake Paul, co-founders of Most Valuable Promotions. “Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor have proven they are two of the biggest names in the sport, male or female and their rematch is one of the biggest fights in boxing, so it’s only fitting for them to be a part of this massive global event. Anyone who witnessed their first battle knows the unforgettable atmosphere and performance Amanda and Katie bring when they step into the ring together, and this is sure to be a fight of the year contender again. Bringing attention to women’s boxing has always been a priority for MVP and we are thrilled to give the world’s most-anticipated women’s boxing fight ever a crowning moment on Netflix. Thank you to Matchroom and DAZN for working with MVP and Netflix to make this historic fight come to fruition.”
“Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano are two of the best boxers in the world,” said Mike Tyson. “I know they can both put on an incredible show, and I’m thrilled to have them join this card. These remarkable athletes will undoubtedly elevate the event with their global appeal and fan bases. Adding one of the greatest fights in women's boxing history to this unforgettable event is a true gift to fans. Saturday, July 20 can’t get here soon enough.”
Netflix is the premier home for great sports entertainment with hits like Emmy-nominated Untold that featured Jake Paul the Problem Child episode last year, along with Formula 1: Drive To Survive, Full Swing, Beckham, NASCAR: Full Speed, Quarterback, Tour de France: Unchained, Under Pressure: The U.S. Women’s World Cup Team and Six Nations: Full Contact. And beginning in 2025, Netflix will become the new home of WWE Raw. Paul vs. Tyson and Serrano vs. Taylor II will be Netflix’s third live sports event, following The Netflix Cup and The Netflix Slam.
"Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano captivated  the sports world during their first fight two years ago, and fans have been clamoring to see them in the ring together again ever since," said Gabe Spitzer, Vice President, Nonfiction Sports, Netflix. "We are thrilled to partner with MVP to bring this epic rematch to Netflix subscribers all over the world on Saturday, July 20th, in what will be an unforgettable night alongside Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson."
Additional information, including the additional undercard bouts, will be announced at a later date. For the opportunity to sign up for presale tickets, click here.

ALYCIA BAUMGARDNER: I’LL SHOW I’M ONE OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD

Super-Featherweight champion gunning for undisputed in New York
Alycia Baumgardner is in the form of her life and knows one more win will cement her spot as one of the best fighters on the planet as she meets Elhem Mekhaled for the undisputed Super-Featherweight crown on Saturday night at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, New York, live worldwide on DAZN.
TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW AT TICKETMASTER.COM AND MORE INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND AT MSG.COM
Baumgardner (13-1 7 KOs) has been on an incredible run of victories since landing one of the knockouts of the year in 2021 when she stunned IBF champion Terri Harper with a sledgehammer left hook to land the WBC and IBO titles in Sheffield, England in November.   The Detroit star defended her title in the UK in April with a shutout win over Melissa Esquivel in Manchester, to line-up her first unification bout against American rival Mikaela Mayer.   London was calling for that showdown and while a bitter build-up sizzled without boiling over, Baumgardner kept her cool on the October fight night, putting in a career-best performance to add Mayer’s WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine belts to her own straps.   Baumgardner’s rise gives her legitimate cause to claim to be a top pound-for-pound star in the sport alongside Katie Taylor, Claressa Shields and Amanda Serrano, and she is proud of the hard work it’s taken to get to this spot.   “Undisputed is one of those things that’s easy to say but hard to achieve,” said Baumgardner. “With hard work and dedication, you can do it, but it’s tough. You are facing the best of the best back-to-back, and that’s the journey that I am on. I am making my mark, leaving my footprint on the sport.   “I don’t care how she got the opportunity, but she’s in with a dog and I hope she knows that. I am ready to knock this girl out. I’m going to really hurt her; I have a lot of pent-up aggression and she’s going to know what it’s like to fight the best. It’s not personal, it’s my mentality and she will feel the power in both hands, and she’ll think, ‘damn, I am in with a beast’.    “If you fight me, you think you can beat me and are better than me. You don’t know me. You might see a smile on a pretty girl, but don’t get it twisted, I got the dog in me and the same hunger I had when I was eight and you cannot take anything away from me. I hustled to get here, and you aren’t taking it away from me.    “Elhem is hungry. She’s wanted the World title fight for a long time, and that’s great. I know my assignment though and I will put her down. Nothing changes that it’s her, it’s a challenge, she wants it, I want it.   “We only have two minutes, don’t give anything away and make a statement every round. I believe Elhem will come forward and I will be the sharper fighter and showing my experience, setting her up. She’s wild, her defense is a bit sloppy, so she’s going to take a punch, but can she take my punch? I don’t know, I have a different type of power, but we’ll see. It’s a KO, for sure, I can feel it. I visualize a lot and I am in the ring, I KO her, and my hand is raised, and I’ve got all the belts.”   The Mayer fight was huge for both fighters, coming on an all-female bill in the English capital, alongside Shields taking on her Brit foe Savannah Marshall.    A spicy build-up whet the appetite for the fight with Mayer, but unlike some fights that have explosive lead-ins that fizzle out, Baumgarder and Mayer served up a fight of the year contender – and that made victory all the more sweeter.   “It was awesome,” said Baumgardner. “A great build-up, I loved the animosity we had, I was fighting someone that I had been watching for a long time in the amateurs, and now as a pro I was in a unification with her. I know I won that fight, you don’t like it? Argue with the judges, they got it right.    “She is delusional and so salty. When you have everything and you are the star, and you lose it all on one night, and lose it to little ol’ AB, it hurts, stings. I just believe she got beat by one of the best fighters in the world.   “I’m the best in the world. No-one stops me but me. I took an early loss, brushed it off, learned from it and grew. I went to England as an underdog against Harper and Mayer and proved everyone wrong. I am here for a reason, I speak truth to power, and I know I will go down as one of the greatest female fighters of all time.   “The belts are cool but why am I really here? It’s because I like to fight. I like the battle. I like it when someone thinks that they can beat me. You can hit harder than me? OK take this. You hit me with a shot? Cool - boom, boom, here’s my shots. I like that. I love to prove to myself that ‘you can do anything AB, no-one can beat you but you’.    “I have a loss too – who cares? I picked myself up, moved forward and now look. I became World champion and beat ‘the best’ in Mayer and made it easy work. If we run it back again, I would really dog her, know that now. Now I know I have you, next time, your career might be finished, because you keep playing with me, and I don’t like that.”   Baumgardner's clash with Mekhaled is part of an historic night of action at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden as Amanda Serrano returns to Hulu Theater to aim to hold all the marbles for a second time, this time at Featherweight where she faces Mexico’s WBA ruler Erika Cruz. Brooklyn ace Richardson Hitchins makes a long-awaited return to action in New York as he defends his IBF North American Super-Lightweight title against New Jersey's John Bauza. There’s three more female title fights on the card, as Australian star Skye Nicolson (5-0) looks to take a big step towards World title action against fellow unbeaten fighter Tania Alvarez (7-0 1 KO) for the WBC Silver Featherweight title and there’s another all-undefeated belt battle as Ramla Ali (7-0 2 KOs) faces title action for the first time in the paid ranks as she meets Avril Mathie (8-0-1 3 KOs) for the IBF Intercontinental Super-Bantamweight strap, Shadasia Green (11-0 10 KOs) defends her WBC Silver Super-Middleweight title against Elin Cederroos (8-1 4 KOs) in an eliminator for the WBC World title.   Yankiel Rivera (2-0 2 KOs) will be looking to make it three KOs in three in his Matchroom debut against Fernando Diaz, and Aaron Aponte (6-0-1 2 KOs) and Brooklyn’s Harley Mederos (4-0 3 KOs) complete the action against Joshua David Rivers (8-1 5 KOs) and Julio Madera (4-2 2 KOs) respectively.

JESSE RODRIGUEZ ‘THANKFUL’ FOR ESPN FIGHTER AWARD

‘Bam’ thrilled to be named Fighter of the Year so far – but is hungry for more in 2022
Jesse Rodriguez says he feels ‘thankful’ to be named as the Fighter of the Year by ESPN in their midyear awards for 2022 – but the WBC World Super-Flyweight champion is not resting on his laurels and continue his sensational year when he defends his title against Israel Gonzalez on Saturday September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, as co-main event to the trilogy clash between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin. The event, presented by Matchroom, Canelo Promotions and GGG Promotions, will broadcast live on DAZN Pay-Per-View in the U.S. and Canada as well as around the world on DAZN (excluding Mexico, Latin America, and Kazakhstan). TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW VIA AXS.COM Rodriguez (16-0 11 KOs) has enjoyed a stellar first half of the year, starting by becoming the youngest active World champion in February, stepping in late to meet Carlos Cuadras for the vacant WBC strap in Phoenix and then putting on a stunning display in his first defense, stopping Thai star Srisaket Sor Rungvisai on his San Antonio home turf in June inside eight rounds. ‘Bam’ extended his promotional pact with Eddie Hearn following the win over Rungivisai, and now defends his title for the second time against Mexican Gonzalez (28-4-1 11 KOs), who challenges for World honors for the fourth time in his career. Rodriguez has begun camp at home and will relocate to Robert Garcia’s California base when his trainer and manager returns from masterminding Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia on August 20. The 21 year old is ready to thrill on the biggest of stages on September 17, and believes it could be the next step in securing Fighter of the Year awards across the board. “I’m so thankful to be named ESPN’s fighter of the year,” said Rodriguez. “My hard work and dedication to the sport is paying off. That is why I’m able to perform the way I have been. There’s so much more to come and I can’t wait. “I’ll be starting my camp in San Antonio for this next fight. I’ll be here for three weeks then finish up in Riverside at Robert Garcia Boxing Academy. Fighting so soon, I feel like I haven’t lost a beat. I’m still in rhythm and I’ll be more than ready for Las Vegas. “The way people have been saying I’m front runner for Fighter of the Year is motivation to get the job done. It’s a blessing to even be mentioned with some of the greatest boxers in the sport. But come September 17, there will be no question who it belongs to.” Rodriguez’s achievement was one of many as Matchroom fighters and events dominated ESPN’s midyear awards. Irish superstar Katie Taylor was named female fighter of the year following her victory over Amanda Serrano in their epic battle at Madison Square Garden in New York in April which landed female fight of the year nod. Leigh Wood’s dramatic final round KO win over Jamie Conlan in Nottingham in March earned the WBA Featherweight king the KO of the year and the battle was awarded men’s fight of the year, while Dmitry Bivol’s triumph over Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas in May took the gong for upset of the year. Rodriguez’s clash with Gonzalez is part of a stacked night of action in Las Vegas, as Diego Pacheco fights for his first pro belt when he meets Enrique Collazo for the WBC USNBC Silver Super-Middleweight title and Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams taking on Kieron Conway for the vacant WBA International Middleweight title, all leading into the third installment of the classic modern rivalry between Canelo and Golovkin, with the Mexican king putting his undisputed Super-Middleweight crown on the line against Kazakhstan's reigning WBA and IBF Middleweight ruler in the most anticipated match up of 2022.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – At the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, seven-division champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (37-1-1, 28 KOs) took on Brooklyn’s Heather “The Heat” Hardy (22-1, 4 KOs) for the WBO Female Featherweight championship.
Serrano is widely considered to be one of the best female boxers in the world pound-for-pound and was listed as high as an eight to one favorite over Hardy.
In the first round, it seemed like the odds were right on the money as Serrano unleashed a vicious attack on Hardy for the full two minutes of the round.
The bout could have nearly been stopped in the first without much complaining from fans in attendance.
Two of the three official judges scored the first round 10-8 in Serrano’s favor without having scored a knockdown.
Before the bout, Hardy stated that “she was the toughest girl she knew” and she proved that against Serrano as she refused to go down.
After surviving through the first two rounds, Hardy began to use more movement instead of just standing in front of Serrano.
Hardy wasn’t winning rounds, but she was able to show that the fight was not over and that it would not be a smooth ride for the Puerto Rican all the way through.
The fifth round may have been the best round of the night for Hardy as she at times pushed Serrano back while landing left and right hooks during exchanges.
Even with Hardy getting back into the fight in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds, Serrano’s facial expression and body language never changed.
While walking down Hardy and even in her corner in between rounds, Serrano remained calm never breathing hard waiting for the next round to begin.
By the seventh round, the seven-division champion was back in complete control as the effective aggressor landing the harder and cleaner punches in every round.
Serrano made sure to invest in body punching from the beginning of the match, which paid dividends in the championship rounds.
Hardy began to slow down in the final three rounds leading to a dominating 10th round from Serrano where she landed a barrage of punches that once again could have led to the bout being stopped.
When the final bell rang, the two women embraced as they both participated in an exciting back and forth match.
All three judges scored the fight in favor of Serrano awarding her with a unanimous decision victory with scores of 98-91 twice and 98-92.
Serrano landed 222 out of 578 total punches at a 38 percent connect rate. Hardy landed 131 out of 498 total punches at a 26 percent connect rate.
The future for both Serrano and Hardy could lead to a rematch in mixed martial arts as both women have fought in MMA.
Serrano may be looking forward to moving back up in weight to meet undisputed Female Lightweight champion Katie Taylor at Lightweight or Super Lightweight.
For a seven-division champion who fights in a different weight class in almost every fight, it doesn’t matter what weight class a fight with Taylor will be contested.
"No matter where it's at, what weight, I'm gonna win."  -- Amanda Serrano

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - This Friday, September 13th at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden women’s boxing will be at the forefront of the boxing world’s radar.
WBO Female Featherweight champion Heather “The Heat” Hardy (22-0, 4 KOs) will be making the first defense of her title against Puerto Rico’s Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (36-1-1, 27 KOs).
Both women hail from Brooklyn, New York as their hometown and have fought many of their bouts at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
This will be just the second time either fighter has fought at Madison Square Garden including in the Hulu Theater formerly known as The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
While both women are undefeated, Serrano has the edge in experience in championship bouts having won world titles in seven different weight classes.
In her previous bout, Serrano moved down from Super Lightweight (140 lbs) where she won the WBO title and faced Eva Voraberger for the vacant WBO Female Super Flyweight (115 lbs) championship.
Serrano won by first-round knockout joining Manny Pacquiao as the only fighters in boxing history to have won titles in seven divisions.
Hardy at 37 years of age has fought all of her professional boxing bouts in the state of New York.
Most recently she won her first world title in a highly anticipated rematch against Shelly Vincent to capture the WBO Female Featherweight title.
Viewing the bout through a stat sheet, Serrano holds all the advantages being the younger fighter, 30, with more experience; however, boxing is practiced through multiple lenses, not just one.
Hardy to say the least is not intimidated or deterred by the task in front of her.
“I’ve become known as the one who talks about equality and pay, but I’m very grateful and blessed that we’re here,” said Hardy at the final press conference for her bout with Serrano in New York. Amanda Serrano is arguably the best female P4P fighter in the world right now, but I’m the toughest girl I know.”
Hardy being the more popular of the two women, may have the crowd behind her on fight night, giving her more motivation to perform at a higher level.
Four out of Serrano’s last five bouts have ended in a stoppage victory for the Puerto Rican while Hardy has gone the distance in her previous six fights.
Most of Hardy’s fights have proven to be back and forth brawls, but for her bout with Serrano, Hardy may be looking at taking the Puerto Rican the distance in hopes of outboxing her.
Serrano’s lone defeat as a professional came in 2012 in Sweden where she lost a unanimous decision against Frida Wahlberg for the WBC Female Super Featherweight title.
Without question, Serrano has improved since her one loss, but Hardy could utilize the tape of Serrano’s fight with Wahlberg to come up with a strategy to best offset many of her opponent's attributes.
The rise of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) on a global level has put a spotlight on the discrepancies in pay and overall coverage in Female boxing compared to their male counterparts.
Both Serrano and Hardy have participated in MMA bouts with Hardy fighting four times for MMA Company Bellator with a 2-2 record.
Serrano has competed for MMA Company Combate Americas two times gaining a record 1-0-1 and also participated in multiple jiu-jitsu tournaments.
Women’s MMA is light years ahead of Female Boxing in terms of coverage, exposure, and promotion.
There have been multiple MMA pay-per-views that have been headlined by women with success most famously when Ronda Rousey was at her apex.
This year has seen some significant matches take place in women’s boxing.
Claressa Shields took on Christina Hammer for the undisputed Female Middleweight championship with all four major titles on the line and Katie Taylor also fought for the undisputed Female Lightweight title against Delfine Persoon.
When Hardy and Serrano step in the ring to face each other this Friday night, they will be challenging more than just themselves.
They will have the opportunity to show that when promoted correctly, women’s boxing can be a viable commodity.
The impact of the bout may not be felt this year, but in years to come should more women’s boxing be prominently featured on platforms like ESPN and DAZN the future generation will have women like Hardy and Serrano to thank.

Published: April 09, 2019
ORLANDO, FLORIDA – This past weekend at the Gilt Nightclub in Orlando, Florida High Power Boxing and Undisputed Promotions put on an exciting night of amateur boxing with their “Undisputed Fight Night 6” card.
The card was highlighted and promoted by having some of the best local Florida amateur fighters taking on some of the best amateurs out of Puerto Rico. The card had about 18 bouts that excited the mostly Puerto Rican crowd.
Some well-known fighters were in attendance for the night’s festivities such as former two-division Super Featherweight and Lightweight champion Jose “Sniper” Pedraza. Legendary former Female boxing champion Christy Martin was also in attendance along with current Super Welterweight contender Erickson Lubin.
Pedraza’s trainer and stepfather Luis Espada spent a majority of the event working the corner for Pedraza’s Sniper Boxing Club (SBC) out of Cidra, Puerto Rico. Many of the night’s highlights featured many of the fighters in SBC.
For boxing fans that have skipped out on watching and attending amateur fights due to a misconception, they may have about the level of skill or exhilaration that will be presented would have missed out on a fast-paced night of action that would have satisfied even the harshest boxing critic.
Some of the highlights for the night featured Female boxers. In a featherweight three-round bout with 2-minute rounds, Hanna Rosich representing Elite Boxing faced off against Jennifer Ramos representing High Power Boxing. The match was fast-paced from the start of the first round with both women landing clean power punches.
In the third round, Ramos was able to score two hard knockdowns that sealed the fight for her winning a unanimous decision on the judge’s scorecards.
The following bout may have been the closest fight of the event with Elite Boxing’s Kevin Nunez taking on Monte Haynes in a three-round match with three-minute rounds at 141 pounds. One word can be used to describe this fight, and that is ‘war.’
When the first bell rang to start the fight, there weren’t many moments with a lull in action. Anytime Nunez landed a punch of significance, Haynes would return fire immediately. After three rounds of intense action, it was unclear as to who would be awarded the victory.
The judges ended up scoring a close split decision victory for Nunez. Both fighters received an ovation from the crowd in attendance as they expressed their gratitude for the display of action and courage they just witnessed.
In what may have been the best performance of the event Justin Roman put on a boxing lesson against his opponent Luke Ruiz. The match took place at 165-pounds and was scheduled for three rounds.
Ruiz attempted to get into Roman’s head by fighting in a style that would have made Hector Camacho or Emmanuel Augustus blush. Ruiz ended up doing more showboating than actual punching as Roman continued to utilize his jab and work over Ruiz through a vast majority of the rounds.
At the end of the second round, Ruiz landed two blatant punches after the bell, which led to him being heavily booed by the crowd. Ruiz was lucky not to have been disqualified for the infraction.
What made Roman’s performance so impressive was his calm demeanor throughout the fight. In the corner in between rounds, Roman was not breathing hard and had the sense of mind of a professional to keep on executing his game plan no matter the antics that Ruiz pulled.
After three dominating rounds, Roman was awarded a unanimous decision and the most massive reception of the night.
The state of Florida is not known for being a hotbed of boxing, however, should fans continue to support local events that feature local fighters it could lead into more high-profile boxing events taking place in the state.
Undisputed Promotions’ Fight Night series continues to showcase that boxing can be entertaining at all levels. Undisputed Fight Night 6 was no exception.
