Understanding Context

The word 'context' generally refers to the circumstance, situation or condition in which something exists or happens; in simple words, it's a bunch of background information that helps to explain (or perhaps clarify the reasons for) often a particular statement.

Now to link that to the world of art, we must really signify the context behind an artist's piece of work. Often, art-lovers question why particular shapes or colours are used in certain ways to try and understand the artist's mindset when creating their piece. A famous example of context used in art (referenced above) is Van Gogh's "The Potato Eaters" - we have a much better understanding of the work by knowing that it was painted during a time of poverty and famine which is evident in the dark colours and haggard expressions of the people in the painting.

To simplify, context merely gives meaning to your work, whether its a painting, a 3D sculpture or a piece of writing and so allows us to go beyond just the nonsense and truly make your work worthwhile. Many artists, if not all, believe creativity and context go hand in hand - that in order to maximise your creativity, you must also try and find meaning behind every idea that pops into your head (as the meaningless tend to be disregarded later on).

These are the Things that allow the Dynamic Change of Societies. Anything that Stifles or Diminishes Them or Their Dynamic Nature is something that could cause critical Stagnation to a Society. Stagnation brings the Change, Adaptation, and Growth of a Society to a Halt. All Science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, etc.) is Important, All Art (Visual, Literary, Auditory, Olfactory, Culinary, etc.) is Important, All Magick (Willed Synchronicity, Mysticism, Spirituality, and Possibly Psychology) is Important. None is Complete without the Others. They Exist in Balance, and One will Always lead to the Other eventually. A force that Stifles them, is a Force that fights Growth and Change. They Balance Each Other and Self-Restrict if They are properly applied. Taken Out of Their Framework, They can be Dangerous. There are Many Examples of Misapplication of These Things, but especially Science in the Modern Era. Taken out of Context, Nuclear Science becomes Nuclear Weapons, risking Nuclear War. Chemistry taken out of Context becomes Toxic Compounds. There must be Balance and a Wider Consideration.
