Preliminary data from a statewide survey conducted in 2022 shows nurses cut back on the number of hours worked per week since 2020, and nearly half the workforce reports symptoms of burnout, said Joanne Spetz, director of the Institute for Health Policy Studies at UC San Francisco, who has studied nursing workforce issues for more than a decade.

More nurses, even those as young as 35, are thinking about leaving the profession entirely or retiring within the next two years, and half of the workforce had at least one patient die of COVID-19, Spetz said.

“There is a lot of trauma in the nursing workforce,” Spetz said. “The numbers are not good.”

Labor advocates say the nursing shortage creates a vicious cycle. The nurses on shift wind up doing more work. They get burned out and flee the industry, worsening the problem.

spent my shift at work learning that our bosses have for some reason decided to critically understaff us to the point that we’re literally one person in every department away from catastrophic failure, go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200.  like, we’re already at “half of you are doing two jobs and ““cross training”“ in more” to make ends meet.  we’re there.  but NOW we’re a step beyond that, because they won’t??? hire ????? more people????? when people leave??

we are hand to god at HALF STAFF.  there are HALF as many people working here as there need to be on paper.  less than that, in some departments. 

and even beyond the horrible effects on everyone’s stress level, and the fact that most people aren’t getting paid enough for all the work they do, im just mortally offended at how fucking stupid it is.  this is not a job where you can

Hey I have been struggling with a lot of very concerning medical issues recently, which are complicating my chronic illnesses. I personally dont want to get into everything I am going into but I really need to get to the hospital ASAP, along with getting medication i have been putting off of weeks. I dont have a doctor yet and the health clinic wait time is a week out, and I cant wait that long without risking infection/sepsis. I literally have 3 cents, very shitty insurance, and struggling to even write this post, so if you are able please help me with this urgent medical need during pride month!

It was Maid Day today yesterday a week ago so I got struck by inspiration to draw the worsties, and it ran away from me into a whole AU where they’re coworkers at a maid cafe. She’s a med student & this is just a part time job, and this is his depression job while he gets his life back together. He needs something he can be workaholic about to forget what it’s like having a personal life and personal issues. He’s actually the accountant, but the new hire janitor (Izutsumi) doesn’t show up for half her shifts and is a sloppy worker, so he gets the extra work of doing her job on top of his because he’s undervalued and overworked. Of course, janitors also have an uniform to keep the aesthetic cohesion as they go about cleaning the place, of course.

Senshi’s the part time cook you only see slivers off, he’s kind and warm when you do see him and have a chat but most shifts he’s in and out the kitchen without a trace. Laios and Falin are regulars because Falin and Marcille are besties & in the same med school, Laios accompanies Falin as she visits her friend at work and gets hooked on the food. Chilchuck has to remind Marcille to work instead of chatting with Falin for an hour, and next thing he knows she’s distracting him from work too. That’s it that’s the AU. Inspired by this idol AU fanart a bit <3

i have a playful headcanon that when simon and baz were going through puberty, simon was really pissed off because it seemed like baz just went away one summer and came back with his voice perfectly even and much deeper.

Not counting the fact they entered Darkwick on the same year and knew each other's name during The Weighing of Souls... when and where they first actually meet and get to know each other? I can only think of them getting assigned to a mission together and it ended with a success, thus a celebratory drink in a bar somewhere outside Darkwick? And maybe as they spent time sharing alcohol and chatting with each other, they eventually also bonded through their similar experiences as people who always end up dealing with troubles happening inside their dorms 💭

(Speaking of "people who always end up dealing with troubles happening inside their dorms", there are two certain vice-captains that also fit this criteria... makes me wonder if they also used to be part of this friend group before The Clash and the whole spy shenanigans fucked up relationships among some ghouls)
