Am happy I kept on with The Once and Future King if for no other reason because I did, as predicted, really love it’s characterisation of Lancelot. And Gwen too for that matter. Like, I complained about them being weirdo martyrs for no reason in the general mythos but this version really took Lance being a weirdo martyr for no reason and ran with it. Really went all in on the pathology of someone who really hates themself and behaves in ways that are deeply self indulgent and self destructive because of it. I absolutely believe this guy went off and became a hermit in his religious fervour as self punishment for his actions instead of being normal and eloping. Idk, I enjoyed this section of the story a lot.
Will say that the good and the bad are sort of mixed inescapably together tho. Like, the story is sort of in a weird space of clearly seeing Lance's behaviour as pathological and still weirdly romanticising it? I get the feeling the author thinks Lance self-harming is better than the people around him who spend no time tormenting themselves over morality, and that becomes weird and uncomfortable when you hear him tell a story about how he stuck his hand in a briar bush to punish himself for lying to his brother as a kid and God rewards this behaviour with a miracle. And on another note, I do think the Arthur side of this triangle ended up a bit neglected. Not that his actions make no sense as something no human would ever do, but the psychology of them and his relationship with Gwen are terribly underexplored, told more than shown imho. And Elaine and the amount of female on male rape in this story mixed with the author never holding the perpetrators accountable is definitely another thing that is :/

Jesus. Noe and his relationship to grief is underexplored imho. So much of his life is defined by loss
Mochijun very intentionally places these two contrasting worldviews next to each other and establishes Louis's cynicism. It's intriguing to see which aspects of Louis's character otherwise contradict his parallel with Vanitas in relation to Noe.

gd things in the hell fic Draf that i’m v v excited to have more publicly chew on but. the comparison between a war-torn society in which soldierdom is passed along biological lines of fathers and sons, and another war-torn society in which journeyman, honoured *full fledged* soldiers train chosen apprentices. and where therefor becomes the line between a son who becomes a soldier and an apprentice who becomes a soldier? the way reproduction is essential for war to continue, and yet violence itself is inimicable to life. how does the domestic walk into battlefield when every connection you have is through a military organisation, versus how much a civillian were you ever when your father was a soldier?
#the long form comparison in her between nina and fedyor (most interesting totally underexplored relationship intro'd in the show#imho because... he is not her foster dad! her dad! he's her commanding officer and handler who'se six years older!!!)#and matthias and his own father#i just think. nina and matthias as both soldiers and the way their societies are so parallel. so completely opposite and so much the same#a hartz iz nisht kein meleks trone#take the water prisoner#in general i'm fascinated by writing that blurs the line between martial and domestic issues#anything that breaks the line between The BattleField and the Cozy Hearth Where My Wife Is#and i don't think modern fantasy has done that nearly enough!!!!#my writing#also in other news i heard relay by fiona apple first time today

Marcel my love
MARCELLUS! My almost namesake ❤️
First impression
- HOT. Hi, Dr. Six Pack! 😏😏
Impression now
- I really like Marcel! I think the show didn't do him any favors with the story lines it put him on. He went from being a major player and antagonist, which could've worked so well considering his connection to the family, to being a glorified extra who was always just sort of there, but not really doing anything. But I liked him, think he was super charismatic, his beef with the Mikaelsons was very fair and, again - HOT. 🥵 Marcel is the hottest dude in the TVDu IMHO.
Favorite moment
- Even though the whole premise was kinda dumb, Marcel biting half of the Mikaelsons and kicking them out of town was something I enjoyed on a personal level cause I could NOT STAND THAT FAMILY anymore by that point in the story.
Idea for a story
- Marcel and Bonnie as a power couple in Nola. 😏✨
Unpopular opinion
- I don't know if this is unpopular, but I would've liked TO better if instead of a baby they had explored Klaus and Marcel's relationship instead. The idea that Klaus would've wanted an heir when he was literally about to go to war with the last child he'd cared for was like ???? why ??? you're immortal ????
Favorite relationship
- Elijah, actually! There's a lot of underexplored or badly explored complexity there that got lost in the mess of inconsistent writing that is TO, especially where Elijah's character is concerned.
Favorite headcanon
- ✨Marcel and Rebekah were never together cause it's incest✨
Thank you for the ask, friend! ❤️
