May I say that this man's badassery is highly underestimated? He can be so unhinged… We know Hunter has an eye on all his siblings, but his blood pressure only skyrockets when Tech is suddenly gone…
Techtober 2024, prompt 4: Monochrome
AND: During coloring I discovered another color version and I LOVE IT! It's here.

Love that Hiccup and Violet are both part of the hyperspecific "disabled protag, who is basically a war vet, is small/skinny, is severely underestimated in their badassery and has super fast, super powerful black dragon that's basically their soulmate" club.

✨Highlight Reel! Part 2!✨
Now onto the meat and potatoes of the thing!
- Mayuri Himself
Hey look, it's user mayuris-basement-dweller gushing about the owner of the basement! What's new?
You underestimate my level of Simping. It went up considerably.
God, where do I even start?
Let's see.
Maybe with the fact Mayuri literally changes in front of our scandalized eyes? Pernida tried to commit homicide...
It didn't work. It just stripped Mayuri of his golden armor. Which I guess signifies it stripped him of his joy and whimsy because when he appeared again...
He locked IN.
That's when Pernida should have known he made a grievous mistake, but he is a hand, so life is hard.
I saw a bunch of people going "What, Mayuri could do all that?!" in neighbouring social media. As his fan, I am not surprised in the slightest. You people just SLEPT on him, when you shouldn't have. Much love.
If people ever ask you to define what younglings call Aura, trust me, you can show them this with tranquility.
The amounts of unbelievable CHILLS I had when Mayuri turned to Pernida with that smile could fill a whole building.
But it wasn't the only moment. The umbrellas, the infinite amount of them. Mayuri's Bankai (which I could write a whole book about).
But I will just just elaborate on three things.
I NEED to gush about this first!
Look. I read the manga. This was easily my favorite panel/sequence ever. And I was so hyped to see it animated.
But it went above and beyond my highest hopes. I also took several screenshots of this and if you look really well you can see the thread... But no needle.
With that being said, like with the umbrellas, I think the thread is somehow coming from Mayuri's fingers. Look when his hand appears. Well, who knows, it wouldn't be so absurd, we talking about Mayuri here.
But...
The Godlike suturing? That could be better according to him?! The speed? The amount of locking in?! ALL OF THAT WITH ONE HAND?!
(Babygirl confirmed ambidextrous ♥️)
The way Ryusei said "Pernida" afterwards?!
If I wasn't already dead when the Hirenkyaku shoes got turned on, I would be using God's Wifi after that.
That's EX levels of badassery right there. Also of course I am very fond of Spideryuri too, let's not forget.
But the second thing I need to bring up...
You people have NO IDEA how much joy this gave me. Yes, we all think these are his subordinates that he loves exploding, but... Who knows? It might be, yes, and it's babygirl exploding people to me, nothing new. But it can be other random Shinigamis, a Junji Ito reference, but I am not here for the worm guys! I am here for Mayuri and a sling!
(TBF, yeah, poor worm dudes. You dying for a noble cause tho. But if Mayuri turned you into worms it's probably cuz you looked at Nemu wrong. Sorry.)
Mayuri with a sling!
Slingshot arm combo!
And the way he NATURALLY, WITHOUT A SINGLE MOMENT OF HESITATION, just does that to Pernida. Twice!
It makes me wonder. And I did for the longest time...
Was Mayuri this good with a slingshot when he was alive?
Did anyone in Seireitei ever see Mayuri "living menace" Kurotsuchi with a slingshot?!
I will never, ever, know. But in my head, it's too late.
Also Part 3 incoming... I think today, but that one will have even more pictures! You can't stop me, picture limit!

I'm the anon complaining about the f!AU with the weepy characters and I guess I failed to mention that the fic writer is doing a 1:1 rewrite of certain parts of canon with some of the characters genderbent.
So when I complain that she turned them weepier and more naive/stupid than they were in canon, it's not some inference of mine about how the canon characters would act, it's a direct comparison of canon vs. fic.
The canon can be pretty whumpy as well, but it makes sure to push the hypercompetent characters to their limits before making them break down, so you get a very clear idea of how far each one of them can be pushed before they're a suicidal mess.
Here are some examples:
- Character A is canonically a super open-minded, philosophical guy. That's one of his chief canon traits. When he realizes that he's sexually attracted to Character B, who is also a man, and that the attraction is reciprocated and could be consumed, his canonical reaction is "Hmmm don't mind if I don't! A gentleman should try every vice at least once!" It's actually B who's a bit reluctant about it because A is younger and more inexperienced, while A is making moon eyes at B and chasing him even after he gets married. He doesn't feel an ounce of anguish or conflict about having gay feelings for his friend at any point. In the genderbend, Character A is so anguished about "having those types of feelings" towards B that she bursts into tears and needs to be comforted. Character A has canonically faced the death of close family members and their own possible complicity in a close friend's execution without this extreme a reaction.
- Character B is canonically a trauma survivor, which has left him with a tough-skinned mentality and an impatience towards weakness and emotional outbursts. In canon, whenever someone reacts emotionally, he's underestimating of it at best and snappish/aggressive at worst, demanding that the other characters put themselves together. When his endgame love interest bursts into tears once (years after the scene from the AU takes place), he just angrily leaves the room because he can't handle it. In the f!AU, B empathically notices character A's anguish right before she's about to cry, and then she's solicitous and comforting and soothing towards B. Canon!B has a long tradition of dismissing A's concerns every time A is angry or emotional.
- Character C was seduced by the manipulative villainess at a young and vulnerable age, and then met her again after going through years of adversity. Character C's main traits in canon are that the adversity has left him cold and calculating and repressed, as well as very Machiavellian, so when he's back with the villainess he's no longer believing her bullshit and is masterfully using her for his own ends. In the genderbend, Character C's experiences of adversity have left her desperate for connection instead of closed off and mistrustful, so she falls right back into the villainess's arms because she craves comfort and genuinely needs to snap out of the manipulation. She breaks down the first time the villainess puts on her fake empathetic charm and seeks comfort like a child.
I understand that some of these (esp the last one) are the fic author's preferences for weepy whump but it just rubs me, personally, the wrong way how the only change is the characters' gender and yet the genderbent versions react a lot more along the stereotypical lines of "women weep a lot and put themselves in abusive situations because they can't stand being alone".
I love the canon characters for the mix of roguish badassery, grey morality, and complex inner lives, and I was SO looking forward to seeing female characters with the same mix of traits. What I found was closer to fainting Victorian ladies. I wouldn't be against seeing the female characters have mental breakdowns as well - as I said, they do happen in canon, and canon is also full of complex female characters who react to trauma in various ways - but I feel like there needs to be enough setup to explain why if you don't want them to come off as whinier and less resilient versions of the male ones.

My Thoughts of Rings of Power Episode 07 Part 2
I love that I’m legitimately rooting for the Orcs and the Elves in this battle, again highlighting the waste and stupidity of war.
Ooo interesting to catch a glimpse of Orc burial traditions. And Adar’s tears? His pain? This man who has been through every torture under the sun can still shed a tear for his children. *sobs*
Also, Galadriel, you’re fooling no one, girl. Frodo and Sam did a better job disguising themselves than you
Arondir and Galadriel time! I love their friendship even though they’ve had like thirty seconds of screen time together. I don’t know, but they work really well together.
“He has taken everything else from me.” ☹ Arondir, what about your adopted sons: Isildur and Theo?
God damn it Durin III. Now is not the time to commit some kinslaying. Also, Durin IV looks good in his armor.
I mean I know you have to put your people before all else, but I think Disa can handle Durin III just find by herself.
This fucking conversation between Celebrimbor and Sauron about Morgoth and torture being a game and pain a reward, I love everything about it. Also Sauron is such a delusion, manipulative little shit.
I love that Celebrimbor almost understands what Sauron means about pain and perfection. Just like Galadriel, there is a core part of Celebrimbor that understands and even appreciates Sauron and vice versa. That’s why he’s able to manipulate them. Pushed one way too hard and Galadriel and Celebrimbor could have fallen into the darkness, just like Sauron.
“You truly are the Great Deceiver. You can deceive even yourself.” Fuck, yeah, Brimby!
Yes, Celebrimbor, rebel! Destroy those rings! (although we know it won’t work)
I CANNOT BELIEVE what Celebrimbor did! Ahhhh! Such a deep lore reference, an example of how willful and brave Celebrimbor truly is, and how much Sauron underestimated him.
“Whose will is the mightier.” Such badassery. Love you, Celebrimbor!
For fuck’s sake just let this man escape the forge!
Also fuck those soldiers for their disrespect. Don’t feel bad when any of you die.
Yay! Galadriel put those assholes in their place
The Celebrimbor-Galadriel reunion. The sadness, the guilt, the shame, the soft care and love they have for each other. *sobs even harder*
And his speech about the light and how it most likely inspires Galadriel to become the Lady of Light we know in the Third Age *sobs even harder*
Seriously give Charles Edwards ALL the rewards or we riot!
That little head nod and attempt at a brave smile as he returns to the forge to face torment and death. ☹
RIAN! FUCKING BAD ASS QUEEN OF THE NIGHT
Love this core principle of Tolkien’s world: fight and keep fighting (however you can) evil until your last breath. That is all we can do.
And then Adar sends in Damrod, ensuring his own children will turn on him. ☹
Yes! Arondir, Gil-Galad, and Elrond team up to take down the troll!
Although seriously where has Gil-Galad been this entire time? XD
Sauron is an evil bastard, but his take down of the Elven guards was cool.
Also, poor Celebrimbor. He now stands against Sauron alone – again. ☹
Again, Charles Edward killing it with the uncertain swallow, the scared, but determined look in his eyes. He knows he doesn’t stand a chance, but he will do what he can while he still can
“Durin will come” – all right, just kill me now. My heart is shattered beyond repair
Please don’t take the Durin-Elrond friendship from me. It’s all I have.
Also, everyone in Elrond’s company except for Galadriel and (maybe) Camnir has died in front of him.
SON OF A BITCH!!!! Arondir IS NOT DEAD!!! NO! NO! NO!
Someone better use Nenya’s powers to fucking heal him.

🐉, 📓, ✨,⚠️ For any and all of your babies!
Thanks so much for the ask, my friend!
🐉Very serious question… are they more like a dragon or a unicorn?
Ethan: Dragon Kaycee: Unicorn Tobias: Unicorn Casey: Unicorn Jessica: Unicorn Eli: Dragon Zoe: Hmmm. She's definitely a little of both, but her genuine state is Unicorn. Trystan: He wants to believe it's a dragon, but it's 1000% a unicorn. Carolina: 80% Dragon, 20% Unicorn! lol
📓Do you associate any quotes or lyrics with this oc?
You know, I do, but this is one of those questions I'd need to give entirely too much thought to lol I'm tucking this one away to answer on another time when I can really delve into this (it's the mental illness. lol)
✨Tell something that makes this oc feel happy!
Ethan: He'd say something like solving a medical mystery, and that's true. But what really makes him happiest is having someone who makes him feel like he has a place to call home for the first time in a very, very long time.
Kaycee: Making a sick patient smile despite the pain; her mom's cooking; Broadway/Theater; music - especially by Taylor Swift; her friends; Ethan.
Tobias: Sex (you asked lol); a day at the beach; flirting; his favorite team winning; a good game on the courts with friends; art; his little girls; and most of all, Casey.
Casey: Truly helping someone; sleeping in; cuddling; sex (you asked lol); really good food; music/concerts; autumn; her little girls; and most of all, Tobias.
Jessica: Academic/professional validation; spending time with true friends; hiking and beautiful scenery; baking; being with the person she loves.
Eli: Pleasant dreams about his late parents and brother, having a place to call home again; cooking something that makes Zoe make "that noise"; Zoe.
Zoe: Her friends who are her family; motorcycle rides with Eli; hugs; Eli.
Trystan: A top-notch massage, bonus points if it includes hot stones; fancy nights out on the town; knowing that he has true, loyal friends now - who love him for him - not for who he is; most of all, Carolina.
Carolina: "Theeeee Yankees Win!"; long rides with good music and/or good conversation; really good Puerto Rican or Caribbean food; her friends; Tommy; Trystan.
⚠️- If this oc came with a warning sign, what would it be?
Ethan: WARNING: My bark is worse than my bite, but my bark is pretty damn intimidating. Also, if you mess with my wife or daughter, the bite will be just as bad.
Kaycee: WARNING: Prone to breaking out into song at any random time. This will often include impromptu reenactions to Hamilton: The Musical or The Era's Tour.
Tobias: (Pre-Casey) WARNING: Voracious flirt who will follow through on that; but don't fall in love, because I'm bound to break your heart.
(Post-Casey) WARNING: Voracious flirt - it's just part of my DNA - I don't even know I'm doing it. But understand it means nothing, I've only got eyes for one.
Casey: WARNING: I'm bound to charm you. But if you're a hateful, bigoted asshole, or you fuck with my loved ones, that charm will go away REAL fast. Be warned.
Eli: WARNING: The stony exterior is just a protective device, but if I'm really scowling, it's probably best to stay away.
Zoe: WARNING: You may not be able to handle my level of badassery. The only thing I can't do - is cook. Oh, yeah, eat nothing I prepare.
Trystan: WARNING: Charming as fuck but capable of utilizing ancient Drakovian martial arts that will gut you in 3-2-1.....
Carolina: WARNING: Don't underestimate me. Ever.
Thanks again for asking, Dani!

A Fizziepop Take: Let's talk about Millie's fight scene in "Exes And Oohs"
So, I saw a post talking about Millie's fight in "Exes And Oohs" and how it was kinda annoying because it followed clichés that every badass fight scene follows (like Millie coming out unharmed at the end or her being able to dodge very shot or bullet that came her way). While I don't know the original poster of this argument, I do have some thoughts on it, so lets get into it!
So the post in question stated something along the lines of the scene was cool but cliché and seemingly overdone in that sense, claiming that it takes away from the badassery of her scene because she comes out on top and unscathed and her opponents seemingly do nothing but take it up the ass (quite literally in one part).
I disagree. I mean, yeah, the badassery can have a greater effect when our protagonist comes out at least a little messed up, but we're talking about literal demons; of course, they'll have different skill sets and abilities that aide them in things revolving around destruction, death, etc. Not to mention, Millie is from the wrath ring where violence is an occurrence so normal that no one bats an eye at her having a body count over the festival games or Sallie Mae dragging a body through the background of that same scene, meaning that her and those in her family likely have multiple stories involving violence to that degree, on top of her job now being murder for hire so she's likely never had an extended period in her life where violence wasn't a big part of normality to her. It makes sense for her to have the skills and ability to come out on top and unharmed more often than not if that's true.
Now, because violence has been such a major influence in her life, our lovely little imp's attack was not only vicious, but it was quick and she did most of it with a smaller knife or her bare hands, even using a dildo as a weapon at one point, as well as her boss at another. Given the fact that Millie moved with a feline-like precision and the speed of a puppy with the zoomies on crack as she ripped the skeletons out of the shark demons she fought or split them crotch to skull, I don't think anyone had much of a chance to stop her once she and Blitz drove through that wall.
In all honesty, Blitz only jumped in to help her once (twice if you count her using him as a weapon at one point) so it was essentially one little imp against at least a dozen other demons and it shouldn't have been possible for her to win. But she did. And I think the reason Millie came out on top, aside from just her sheer rage over the situation her husband was in, was because she was underestimated by everyone there. Crimson himself even shouting, "She's a dame! She's a broad, kill her!" when his much larger, primarily male staff couldn't contain Millie as she used their size and lack of speed and agility against them until only she was left standing. And while that was probably the most badass thing I've see from her in this series, I don't think that's actually what this scene was supposed to be about.
I think the point this scene was trying to make with each cliche trope it contained was packed into the end of the scene and solidified by the last scene in the episode. Why? Because after killing at least a dozen demons, most larger than her and toting far more weaponry, Millie didn't touch Crimson or Chaz. She could've killed them both for what they did but instead, she grabbed her man and threw him over her shoulder before leaving. And what's more interesting is that Crimson let it happen. He let it happen because he knew that despite being 'a dame', she could end him the way she ended every one of the men he sent her way, and that just didn't sit well with him.
Crimson letting the group leave was huge because it was an admission of defeat, a show of weakness at the hands of the someone he's always seen as the weaker sex, and it left him open to become a reoccurring character later in the series. After having his plan fucked up by a woman and an idiot in a car, and almost being scammed by a broke, sex obsessed shark who can't fuck, he'll feel a need to redeem himself when he comes back, meaning the next scene we see him in may involve a lot more carnage because now he knows he has to account for the fact that Moxxie has at least one person who care about him enough to go absolutely ballistic over him being put in any kind of danger, so if he's gunning for his son, he has to get through Millie at the very least. And after seeing him put a knife through a picture of his son's head, we know he's most definitely looking to take him the fuck out. And for all of us who are getting tired of seeing Moxxie only being a damsel in distress most of the time, a storyline like this could mean he finally gets the chance to not only save the others, but stand up to his dad on a more equal playing field than he had in his childhood home where he was promptly tazed, tied up, and forced to stand at the alter with someone who betrayed him once already.
Though I could definitely be reading way farther into this than I need to, this one action packed scene where Millie absolutely killed the game (pun very much intended) could set up so much more because of the clichés that were used to convey something more than actually outright stated. I feel like that type of thing is very much on brand for Vivziepop and hope our next scene featuring Crimson as our antagonist shows the anger I think was fueled by this loss and a plan to try to come back from it because it would be a great watch. Regardless of my take on it or if any of my thoughts hold any truth, I'm excited to see the direction the next episodes take us.

So my absolute favourite Crowley episodes are in order from earliest to latest are ...
Wait before I get there the problem is all of them except the episodes were Crowley gets bullied or worse are my favourites. That's a lot of episodes because the bullying of Crowley, rather than just general rivalry and enemy stuff didn't happen until season 10. So I decided to change it to only the favourites where I can actually explain why beyond "I just love it just because uh yeah it's amazing"
Abandon All Hope
Okay so this is the episode where we see a demon trolling a homophobe and as one of those woke millenials it felt like Crowley was the kind of person that would have a blog on Tumblr and give entertaining rants about the unfair state of LGBTQphobias and racism in the world
The Devil You Know
Okay so this is central to understanding pre human blood Crowley's character. You cannot write accurate and informed metas of prehuman Crowley without having knowledge of this episode in your subconscious influencing you
It is basically a character study. It tells you that he is brilliant as he persuaded someone who didn't fear Crowley or the Winchesters torture or death into telling them where Pestilence is. He got Bobby who is clearly intelligent into giving up his soul
He is dramatic and funny. "They ate my tailor!"
He is quick to anger and doesn't have much patience. "Shut up the both of you!"
He is willing for his allies to get hurt to achieve his their goals. "That's what you get working with a demon."
He is flirty. "Lovers in league against Satan."
He shows more emotional range than most demons we've seen. "So come with me. Please." However his ability to feel the full range of emotions from anger to fear even before the human blood is unfortunately a big weakness of his, because he doesn't think of all the ways things can go wrong when he is feeling strong emotions as he acts impulsively, and therefore doesn't think of contigency plans for them. When he's calm he's brilliant
See most people think Crowley is smug and arrogant and he can be those things. But often he isn't and it's just a cover up for his worry
He is badass. He fought and won against an entire hive of demons single handedly before he became the ruler of fallen humanity
It is also his character centric episode
He also shrugs off being shot with a salt bullet
Two Minutes to Midnight
Telling the boys that Bobby used tongue is a well known, hilarious and iconic moment. To be fair to Bobby he might have thought he needed to use tongue for the deal to work
This is the episode where Cas' first line to him wasn't something something abomination but a surprised "how did you get that?" the first active impression that Cas has of Crowley is curiosity on his ability to gain things that should be difficult to get. That meant Cas never underestimated Crowley even in later seasons when the boys stopped being scared of him because Cas' first impression is that Crowley is very able to achieve what should be very difficult or near impossible
Weekend at Bobby's
Crowstiel is my favourite ship but the chemistry rivalry between Crowley and Bobby Singer is undeniable. It was also kind of hot. "You come to daddy." Them both mocking each other's accents was hilarious
The Man Who Would Be King
His support for Cas and the fact that he made Hell unique from the other Hells we've seen. This is also the episode where we see just how much respect that Crowley has for Cas. He genuinely believes that Cas is able to lead an army and win the war. He respects Cas in every way and even when Cas was in his honey era stage he believed in Cas to help beat Dick. How do we know he wasn't just saying that? 1. Why would Crowley team up with someone incapable? 2. We see evidence both before and after that episode of Cas' intelligence and badassery 3. Iirc and maybe I'm wrong Crowley has never called Cas a moron. Something he has no qualms using on even people he thinks of as friends post human blood like Dean for example
Season Seven, Time for a Wedding!
This is Crowley at his most fearsome and respected. Dean fears him "oh, crap". His demons fear him "oh, crap" and his unexpected speech about wall street and integrity from a demon was ironically funny
There Will Be Blood
This is the episode where Crowley is one of the most crucial characters of the season. They need HIS blood [ along with Cas and the alpha vamps ] to save the world
Crowley and Cas deserve to be important
Survival of the Fittest
He wins that episode. He gets Kevin. Cas and Dean get trapped in Purgatory and if Dean was a random side character rather than necessary to the plot there wouldn't have been a way out for him
He also doesn't get bitchy when Cas said not in so many words "no thank you" to helping with Dick Roman
The Great Escapist
Crowley sees Cas and his eyes light up. That is good acting to make even your irisises gleam. The look was very affectionate. It wasn't a smug yes I have Cas now! Angel tablet let's go! It was a soft adoring look
It was also nice for Crowley to have a win. It also shows just how good his logical thinking is and how he can draw the right conclusions from the information available to him. Plus his devil bullet idea was a creative solution to not having to get within an angel's smiting range
Clip Show
He called the Winchesters out for their collateral damage and they needed to be called out tbh. That was so satisfying. This episode is also a reminder to us that he isn't just funny dramatic Crowley as he is also "the ruler of fallen humanity" and Crowley shows that dark side of himself
Devil May Care
He had been tortured with a sledgehammer and he behaved like his nails had been painted. Badass. What a king 💅
Road Trip
There is evidence suggesting Crowley wasn't trying his best to hack Gadreel in order to force Dean into a deal where he gets to possess Sam and therefore go free
The evidence is that he doesn't do as much twisting with Gadreel as he does with Alfie. The evidence is that the pins Crowley is using to hack Gadreel vs Alphie are on opposite temples
Absolutely magnificent bastard
King of the Damned
Watching Crowley be soft hearted for Gavin was so rewarding from Weekend at Bobby's
The Foundry
The episode you point people to when they ask why do you ship Crowstiel as a friendship or a romanceship?
They play off each other well humour wise. And rather than rolling his eyes or looking disappointed in Cas for the Beyonce name like Dean would Crowley decides to join in on the joke
Crowley finds Cas fun whereas Dean can find Cas annoying
LOTUS
"I agree with agent Zappa." This is where Cas engages with Crowley like they really are partners and was the beginning potential of a friendship
I also believe Cas would prefer being Crowley's FBI partner and I know what you're thinking "but Cas loves Dean" and look I love my partner and I would choose him over my online gaming friends but some of my online gaming friends are more enjoyable to game with than my partner is. It doesn't mean I love them more but in this particular circumstance i.e gaming I would rather game with them than my partner f
For example my partner doesn't really do activities with me in the game he just goes off and does his own thing
Dean rolls his eyes and insults Cas where as Crowley joins in like it's perfectly normal to refer to yourself as Agent Beyonce. He never goes out of his way to make Cas feel embarassed and I just feel like if it wasn't for Dean Cas would really enjoy being FBI partners with Crowley after Lucifer gets defeated as well

You know, I could talk forever about the moment Lilith reaches out with JUST ONE FREAKING HAND to telekinetically hold the literal devil back. Like, I feel no one goes on about the POWER that is, or don't go on about it enough to satisfy how many freaking feels that moment gives me.
Like, Lucifer is CHARGING forward towards Sabrina, he's pure freaking fury, and he is about to visit some extreme violence on the room, and Lilith doesn't even move from where she's stood, she just reaches out with one hand, and just as Zelda held back Mr Kinkle, holds back the Dark Lord. Like, he's fighting back and struggling against it, but he is trapped, he is held fast by her power. Think about it; that is so incredibly powerful, that it knocks everyone else out of the water (and is why I get low-key pissed when people lessen Lilith's power, or write things where she could be overpowered by someone else easily. The only way Nick was able to bind her was he had ONE OF HER BONES. Like he had to have a physical piece of her to be able to do anything).
Lilith shows, in this moment, that she is so freaking powerful (and most decidedly deserving of being Queen of Hell) and yet she so rarely shows it. She shows her power, and the extent of the strength of it so rarely, that I think those around her, Lucifer included, tend to forget, and so they underestimate her. And then when she does engage her full power and openly use it, the moment is so freaking badass. Like when she raises the Greendale 13 so easily (with a nice blood sacrifice), when she pulls everyone into their own personal tarot vision so effortlessly, the way she banishes Beelzebub with just a dismissive flick of the hand, how she even bypasses the defence of a Yule Log by just making herself a little gingerbread house, and then her glamours and skin changes are next level.
And that's without even going into the added power and badassery as regards holding back the devil, that she was being brave enough to take a stand against her abuser, and let him know she was against him.

7 and 15 for the ask meme! Also you've already said it for yourself, but I want you to know the shaft scene of Underdark lives in my head rent-free. Everything from the moment the train lights pass overhead to the moment Mikey has to climb back out of the shaft with Leo tied to his back. That's like a chapter and a half, I'm sure 50% sure, but I remember like it's been painted on my memory.
me, the author, typing away: oh god this is so STRESSFUL I wonder what happens next
Glad that's someone else's favourite ♥
7. What’s a trope you love to write?
Too many to count. I know I definitely round back to the same ones a lot, but I think the one I love to write (because now that I think about it I do this a lot lmao) it's > take hero and handicap in some way (whether literally or he's just out of his depth) > hero gets underestimated > hero proceeds to think outside the box and kick your ass with whatever improvised tactic comes to hand Because I LOVE ME SOME INTELLIGENT CHARACTERS and I do this in just about everything, and it may be a direct response to being tired of watching otherwise competent characters get damselled and lie around helpless when they really shouldn't be. (The flip side is if I actually do damsel someone they are fucked up to a level where they Literally Cannot and they will probably fight all the way down to that level because it's the only way to stop my brain from going "but they could do this and--")
I first did that with Kenshin in Tanabata Jasmine, where the bad guys broke his collarbone and took his sword away and he proceeded to have a fight with first a chair leg and then a bowl of rice, so. Kaoru was thinking outside the box the entire time when she was being a small time hacker sliding her way into one of the Top 5 Scariest Zaibatsu In Existence in Zaibatsu Project. That was fun. The list continues from there. I guarantee you this is coming in No Rest For The Weary. A lot. I like underdog fights and impossible odds with inspired badassery. (I also do this in RP a lot, boy Nami did a lot of improv fighting in Luceti.)
15. Are there words, phrases, mannerisms or scenes you tend to use a lot?
OH I SEE HOW IT IS, MY BETA CALLING ME OUT-- jkjk. Um, yes. Mostly Said-Bookisms, which I keep a tight eye on these days because I want to describe tone for every piece of dialogue someone writes and it's Not Necessary. But I'm fond of people speaking mildly and dryly and I like injecting life into conversations but boy it's sure easy to go Too Far with that, so. I also abuse the em dash like many authors and because my usual MO is to switch between Third Person Limited, the passages often have a lot of disconnected thoughts as they start thinking about something else or something happens, so. There are a lot of paragraphs that end with -- and then they sidetrack.
I bet there are phrases that I use a lot. One is 'white-knuckled' which is unfortunate because I'm currently talking about a bunch of kids with green skin and I already noticed I just absently used that in the very first chapter of NRFTW whoops. Also, hilariously, I'm pretty sure I've used the sentence 'He Slept' on its own a few times lately, irony of that story title. I often finish chapters/sections with a very short tl;dr sentence, lmao.
And scenes-- I try my best not to repeat on these, but apparently Mikey and Leo snoozing in bed together is gonna be a repeat theme. Characters waking up confused b/c of concussions and/or drugs and/or Bits of Black Ice Programs Trapped In Their Heads. Bizarrely, I have also written two boardroom scenes in which the protag has to face a bunch of murderous capitalists and outwit them on a verbal scale. The fact that that one occurred twice was not intentional and is a source of great amusement to me.
Thank you!

Liking a character for combat pragmatism/fight aggressively..... well I guess it may be caused by how tokusatsu's (or other action-based media) main appeal to people would be the, well, special effects, as in the genre name ("tokushu satsuei"); people watch those just for the fights and the suits.
Liking fight may also be related to wanting power fantasy, so the ones who fight the coolest to them like being aggressive and brutal (usually done in rival archetypes), would be what catches their attention. Seems that vulgar behavior is considered a display for badassery outside of fight too, for some reason - which infuriates me that this seem to produce a double standard, like praising Azuma's Revolve On use (against Bujin Sword) sky high, but ignoring Keiwa's own creative use of Revolve On. Or perhaps also their performance against the Premiums (Azuma losing against 2, Keiwa having upper hand against 1).
Overall only what's "cool" got appreciated and paid attention, regardless if someone else out there has them - not limited to action but in other stuff like character personality or gorgeous/intimidating looks. There are those who also encourage people to turn their brains off when watching toku, rather than getting deep about children's shows - including limiting the definition of good guy/hero to those who beat up bad guys, anyone who are on their side are good too, etc. regardless of character or context.
Even though there are toku episodes that brought these topic up where a kid wanting to be Rider to be "cool" is not considered a heroic trait as it's more about worshiping violence - like Ryuki ep. 27.
Yeah, that's my impression of it. They're just in it for the action stuff.
Which is a shame, I feel, because when people get too caught up in the flashing lights and the collectible gimmicks and the shiny armor and the cool weapons, they tend to miss out on the very human side of tokusatsu. While I don't think it's wrong to enjoy tokusatsu just for the shonen-like action and stuff going boom, I feel like when you just turn your brain off you miss a lot of the things that would make you appreciate the genre more.
I mean... yeah, it's a kid's tv show. Doesn't mean it should be shallow and insubstantial action all the time. Honestly, I think it shouldn't be underestimated how much kids (let alone grown ass men) can pick up on a bunch of guys in rubber suits hitting each other if even a modicum of thought is actually put into making it.

Kyojuro is Top-Tier Badass
Kyojuro was and is a 100% total badass. His fight with Akaza and how it unfolded the way that he got injured and lost his life in the fight makes sense and doesn’t take away from his baddass-ness. At no point in the fight did he ever give up. The moment where he is standing there listening to Akaza rant about his injuries and how if he was a demon they would be gone quickly, I don’t think that was Kyojuro resigning to his “fate” at all. He was not giving up, not at all. If you listen to his breathing you’ll notice as that scene goes on his breathing becomes LESS haggard and he takes a full, completely steady breath before going into Ninth Form Rengoku. I honestly believe he was using his breathing techniques to build up his strength just as he had literally just told Tanjiro how to do. I believe he was thinking in his military style way of coming to terms with what he could still do while wounded. He was probably going into shock, he knew that he had tried all his other attacks except two or three and they weren’t working, he was already badly hurt and knew he strength wasn’t going to hold out much longer and he had already slowed down. That left him with the Ninth Form Rengoku and he put his all into that attack as a last resort. Also if you notice when he got punched in the ribs he didn’t spit blood meaning his shattered ribs punctured his organs and he still kept fighting full force! Look at the scene where he is breathing and not saying anything before the Rengoku form. His blood goes all the way up to his chest from that punch that shattered his ribs.
As for the slowing down that allowed for that punch to his ribs---He was slowing down with good reason. He had been fighting demons for DAYS. Not just a couple hours. He left right after the Pillar Meeting, probably travelled by foot to the train and now we know that he took on another mission before actually boarding the train. The Squad was at Butterfly mansion for several days. And even when the Squad was with him he had already used very large attacks during the fight with Enmu and he was covering a huge amount of ground guys. FIVE CARS. FIVE CARS FULL OF PEOPLE. That isn't a small distance! He can't do pinpoint fire attacks! That takes a lot of energy! Remember his whole speech about being human? Part of being human is that even with Total Concentration Constant you don’t get an endless supply of strength/energy even if you’re a higher skilled Slayer. Even in constant, his constant fighting and activity would take a toll. Kyojuro was using his techniques CONSTANTLY. He was using them way more than the boys, and he had to in order to properly fulfill his duties. He must have been running on empty by the time Akaza showed but was still putting his all into that fight. Because even Constant only does so much (there was a point to Tanjiro saying Hinokami Kagura takes its toll and he was still IN constant when he said that). Using a bunch of Flame techniques take it’s toll too. Kyojuro said “Breathing won’t fix everything” and his fight was evidence of that. He used it as much as he could to help him through the fight but it didn’t fix his injuries, it didn’t fix his exhaustion. And yet, in spite of that, in spite of his fatigue, his injuries, he poured his absolute all into his fight and he gave a damn good fight.
So for me, knowing that, and seeing how he fought Akaza, and how well he fought for the majority of that fight---also completely by himself which no one else did against an Upper Moon except Zenitsu, and let’s be honest Kaigaku is no where near Akaza’s level--so no it makes sense that he was exhausted, slowed down and therefore got hurt by one of those fast blows. And remember that those moves were slowed down so that we the audience could see them. It’s an additional testament to everything he said in his speech, “They may seem like weaknesses to you, but our lives are all the more honorable because of it”. That applies to getting fatigued too, because even fatigued he kept fighting. He kept trying. He didn’t give up or say “I have nothing left in me.” He had a creed to follow and he followed it to the end.
He was one of the Pillars to never manifest the Mark during his fight, and in spite of that he still almost succeeded in taking Akaza’s head off. He held him in place, using his own damaged body and still tried to cut off his head, using one hand. And with the other caught a full on punch. He got absolutely no help in his fight against Akaza. No tricks, no back up. Nothing. It was just him vs. Akaza. Against the third highest ranking demon in existence, who was way ahead of the other Upper Moons in terms of strength. Kyojuro must have been exhausted beyond belief when that fight started, just because he was being loud and smiling, and being the wonderful big brother he is, I feel like we forgot the situation, and what he was dealing with at the time. I think we got a very good indication of how powerful Kyojuro was and no offense to the other Pillars but I’d consider him top in strength next only to Gyomei. He is far stronger than he’s given credit for and he is a top-tier badass don’t insult him.
#kyojuro rengoku#rengoku kyoujurou#rengoku kyojuro#I'm gonna need ya'll to stop underestimating my boy#set your heart ablaze#flame hashira#flame pillar#the strongest of them all#boy almost killed Akaza and didn't even have a Demon Mark to help him#Pure Kyojuro badassery#he's a total badass
