So, I noticed something interesting:
I was asking people to come up with a name for "a program that specialises in therapy for criminals/villains/ anyone with legal problems. I have TBL (Therapy Beyond Law) but it feels lame".
And an interesting thing I found was that even though I didn't say anything about the program... Un village them.
Some of the offers included:
"Revive - Rehabilitating Every Villian Into Viable Employees"
LAW (Legal Aid for Wretches)/( Legal Aid for Workers)
Villain Anonymous
league of Super Enemy’s rehabilitated (LOSER)?
(I also got some interesting ideas! But that was a common thought)
Which is... weird. It could be on me, since I made it sound like it's a "villains' fix-it" , but my thoughts were based on some things:
Therapists have ethical codes, and in many places laws about having to report to the authorities. (Like if someone tell them they're gonna kill someone and have a plan, cases of child abuse, etc.)
What do criminals that require mental support do?
The mental equivalent of a "back alley doctor".
Like, this made up program is supposed to be where ppl who can't/doesn't want to go to therapy at someone with ethical/legal code can find help via this.
It's all distant-locarion based, like phone and Skype and Zoom, only their own kind. For security reasons. And it's firewalls all the ways down with the best hackers on the job and maybe some magic users and a cyborg?
Anyway -
It can doesn't have to be about crimes.
Honestly, most people come to talk about "normal" things, like depression and stress and relationships and all.
There are those who come because they don't want to be known by the government, bc of paranoia or witness protection or family or social issues.
There are metas, or magic users, or aliens - coming looking for a place to openly talk without the fear of being exposed or reported.
So you have a big ass, 7 feet green person talking about their body image issues and being rejected by society and everyone look at you with disgust and hating you because of your skin colour.
And you have an alien talking about cultural conflicts and physical differences and feeling isolated and alone. Or being turned between the people who raised you (that you love) but you want to know more about your birth family and don't want to upset them.
And a witch coming to tslk about how to come out to her mother - there's a lot of love there, but also a traditional family. And she laughs and telling you she doesn't know what would be harder for her mom - finding out her kid's a witch or finding out she's bi.
And of course, there are criminals. But most of them come for things like "How to improve my relationship with my kids" or getting help for depression or anxiety.
(sometimes they talk about crimes. But it's usually like "I have panic attacks since my car blew up. Why? Oh, bc I killed that monster's brother. Anyway, how can I go back to driving?" )
And there are, very few, like trafficers coming for things like "how to make the cargo last longer" and "sometimes they cry and it piss me off".
(which is... not something a usual supervisor can help you deal with.)
And sometimes they come bc more than one reason - bc a 7feet green person CAN'T find a "legal" job, so they also talk about hurting ppl.
And that alien might have a blue-and-orange morral, and is horrified by the whole concept of "burial", but also can't understand WHY he can't shape shift and look like someone else (exist) and the concept of identity theft.
Anyway. I'd love to hear your ideas/fics. Just please let me know if you write anything with this concept. Thank you 😊

The murder of Sarit Ahmed
(Report June 11 2023, via Haaretz)
Text version below cut
:readmore:
The Murder of Sarit Ahmed Reveals Israel’s Failure to Protect the Arab LGBTQ Community
Welfare officials admit Israel needs to do more to protect LGBTQ Arabs, after an 18-year-old Druze woman was killed by her brother after leaving a shelter to stay with relatives
Some three weeks ago, 18-year-old Sarit Ahmed approached police with a request for protection. Ahmed, whom police suspect was murdered by her brother because of her sexual orientation, feared her life was in danger.
She was sent in a taxi to a shelter for young women at risk. Ahmed didn't enter the gates, however. Instead, she went to stay with her sister and family, feeling that she would be safer there. She was shot dead on Friday on a road near Yarka, a Druze town in the north.
Police have not arrested any suspects, and still looking for her brother. According to police sources, the brother can be linked to the attack. Ahmad's two brothers were convicted of threatening her life after she alerted police in 2020.
Welfare officials have said the case highlights the need for a system to help LGBTQ Arabs who are in danger that goes beyond placing them in shelters. Some options might be using the witness protection program, which would allow them to change their identity and move abroad. Another option would be resettlement in another country under the auspices of the UN. These solutions are usually reserved for Palestinians who have fled to Israel, and are very rarely used.
Ahmed's two brothers, Ihab and Said bin Samer Ahmed, both served prison terms for sending death threats to Sarit. Their indictment said one of them had offered 200,000 shekels ($56,000) for her murder. Another brother threatened to "stab her with a knife" and then act "as if nothing had happened," according to the indictment. Following the threats, she was transferred to a shelter due to concerns for her safety.
Ahmed began living at a home for at-risk girls when she was 15 under a court order. When she was 18, she was transferred to another shelter, but left after two months, along with two friends.
Shelter staff reported the incident to the police, sources say, and tried to convince her to stay in the shelter. Ahmed and her friends "came to the conclusion that it wouldn't work out with their families," a welfare official told Haaretz. “They would stay in the shelter for another month and then what? They decided not to hide forever.
“She wanted to fulfill herself like any 18-year-old," the official said. "She was locked in one shelter under a court order for three years, and then in another. Sarit was opinionated and a feminist, she understood the world she was in. There is a limit to how much you can put these women in shelters and incarcerate them. This does not solve the problem."
According to investigators, Ahmed had returned to her family shortly after leaving the shelter and stayed there for about six months. Her brothers had already been released from prison. She continued to be in contact with the shelter she had lived in, and had recently reported an increase in death threats to the police, who ordered her to return to the shelter. Ahmed refused to live in hiding again, and during the last two weeks of her life had stayed with her sister and her family, who kept her secure in a nearby village, until she was killed on Friday.
The case is similar to a similar one in 2019, when a young Arab woman receiving gender affirmation therapy was attacked and seriously wounded by her brother outside a designated shelter for LGBTQ youth in Tel Aviv. In this case too, her brothers were previously accused of threatening her.
During a Knesset hearing last week, it was revealed that the Welfare Ministry employs only one social worker dedicated to helping LGBTQ Arabs. Arwa Adam, director of Arab LGBTQ organization Beit Al-Mim, said in the Knesset that about six months ago that the Social Equality Ministry approved the opening of a shelter for the LGBTQ Arab community, but had not actually implemented it.
According to Aguda – Israel's LGBTQ Task Force, on Saturday, the number of calls to the Arabic hotline have doubled since the murder. Adam added that "the callers wants to unload, because they don't have a framework in which to share it".

verse: a knight is but a gentleman with a sword ( 2/??? )
reposted from my old blog on april 18th, 2022.
ARGOS.
Having escaped ANACHRON, Shin Myungsuk was nine years old when he became an orphan. Although he wanted to reunite with his younger brother, Myungdae ( who Myungsuk also found out now went by the name Patrick ), he still needed to hide. He was taken in by ARGOS, a special ops organization under the jurisdiction of the UN that made it its goal to take down ANACHRON.
Out of gratitude for their protection and generosity, but out of a need to take down ANACHRON and save his father, when he was old enough, Myungsuk joined as a cadet and worked his work up the ladder.
As a level one agent, he became friends with his roommate, who would later become a trusted comrade, Alfred Jinwoo Kim. Initially, they connected over having similar senses of humor, but also came to see one another as brothers-in-arms when they realized ANACHRON had made orphans of the both of them. Over the years, Myungsuk and Alfred would both become top-tier agents, highly respected within ARGOS, both taking a strong interest in any missions dealing with ANACHRON. While Alfred specialized in strictly combat, Myungsuk preferred to hone his skills in stealth and strategizing.
Throughout his 15+ years of service, Myungsuk kept an eye on his younger brother. He hoped that his father was still alive, only to discover prior to his execution via the horrible truth about what ANACHRON was doing and that his father was the instigator.
Important Tidbits:
Even though Myungsuk and Alfred are both respected within the organization, let’s just say that ARGOS isn’t exactly the beacon of shining light it presents itself as. For one thing, over the years, it becomes increasingly stagnant. More focused on surveillance rather than gathering information and taking action. This very much frustrated Alfred when he went on leave.
This is also because over the years, the UN began to entrust more and more of its resources towards ARGOS, and therefore many of the leaders ( who have ties to the militaries of their respective countries ) sought to actually extend the war against the very enemies it’s fighting to maintain their power and position.
In Patrick’s Main Verse, this is the reason Felicity poses as Myungsuk to Patrick; she submitted herself to ARGOS for protection and gave crucial information about ANACHRON, but upon realizing it wasn’t going to take action, she realized she needed to find another way of taking down ANACHRON.
Also, ARGOS is more than willing to take in criminals, putting them to work aka sending them out to the field in exchange for protection/immunity.
Pls then consider in the Black Knight verse, the case of Patrick. By the time he’s taken in, rather than ARGOS sending him to say a witness protection program and getting him the medical services he needs, they put him to work instead, basically recreating the previous 2-3 years he had already endured.
Patrick doesn’t mention this to Nell or Alfred because, in all technicalities, he is also in debt to ARGOS…they’re the reason he was able to get a fake identity and adopt Elise and Hiro.
When he takes a step back from ARGOS and relocates to Seoul, Patrick ( now Myungdae ) is technically employed by ARGOS just as a surveillance agent over ANACHRON. He gets a comfortable pension of sorts from them too.
However, when Patrick informs ARGOS that he suspects there's something more sinister going on there and they should be focusing more on taking down ANACHRON, he’s told to stand down. Again, this is because many of the higher-ups want to maintain ARGOS’ importance…so one less major enemy means funds and money taken away….
Henceforth the creation of the Black Knight: it’s not just fighting ANACHRON, it’s also a rebellion against ARGOS ( who is also the unwitting benefactor for the black knight’s operation ) :)
#( about: a knight is but a gentleman with a sword. )#the next few posts are going to be heavy#just as warning

Thinking about some future scenes for later entries into my "Snapshots of Mars and His Satellites" series (I'm hoping to do at least two more, thought it is now firmly into the "canon divergence" side of things because I'm pretty much ignoring most of the Bloodmoon stuff and the way I had Eclipse get defeated has already been hinted at being a lot different--though i still do want to integrate new info from the show where I can).
Spoilers below:
I already alluded to Glamrock Freddy's first visit back to the Daycare once everything went down, and that's one of the things I really want to dig into--specifically Sun's reaction, since his reasoning for being there digs into a lot of sore spots.
To put it simply: His reasoning for being there is that management/Chica keeps informing him of various noise complaints--which happen to be due to Sun (and Monty) renovating Moon's room as per "Contemplations." Unfortunately, Freddy happens to come to the daycare right when they have finally managed to coax Moon into turning off to charge in that un-decorateable alcove, and Freddy waking Moon up to try and get to the bottom of the noise complaints results in a panic attack and Lunar having to force himself into the front to prevent Moon from ripping out the wires on the back of his head.
Freddy, at this point, does not know about Lunar's existence, since he pretty much forgot about that little introduction Lunar gave him in his debut episode(s).
While this does result in Lunar getting to use Sun's little "Security alert" line from the game in order to get his attention, it also means Sun is going to be even more angry at Freddy than he already was.
...Anyways, the point of all this is that one of the lines that is stuck in my head for Sun to say to Freddy while tensions are high is a demand of "Why did you leave him (meaning Moon) alone with me?!"
Because that's honestly one of the things that would tick Sun off the most, in the end. He doesn't blame them for not wanting to be around him, since Eclipse was dangerous and had already proven that he could take over without warning and be sneaky, and Freddy had a son--a literal human child whom Sun would be programmed to give some priority to himself, even as he finds Gregory in particular to be mildly annoying--and Roxanne to think about. It makes sense that they would be wary of Sun, even though they didn't blame him for Eclipse's actions.
But despite knowing how dangerous Eclipse was, despite the fact that they'd seen him mess with one of Sun's close friends, despite the fact that Freddy himself was later witness to Eclipse doing the exact same thing to Moon--they still left Moon alone with him, without offering him any sort of protection outside of the vague possibility that maybe Golden Freddy could help. And even that came with the caveat that Golden Freddy rarely actually leaves his house.
...Also Lunar gets to be the once to call Freddy out on being a bad friend, which is sweet in its own way since it lets Lunar take on the role of protector, for once.

Sri Lanka's Filipino Pastoral Workers: Ethical Recruitment, Contract Negotiation, & Family Impacts in the OFW Era (OFWJobs.org)
The phenomenon of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) is a complex tapestry woven with threads of sacrifice, resilience, economic necessity, and the enduring pursuit of a better life. While often hailed as modern-day heroes, the narrative of OFW life extends far beyond remittances and economic contributions. It delves into the emotional landscapes of families separated by distance, the vulnerabilities faced in foreign lands, and the ongoing struggle for fair and ethical recruitment practices. This article examines the multifaceted experiences of OFWs, focusing on pastoral workers in Sri Lanka, the intricacies of contract negotiation, the evolution of ethical recruitment advocacy, and the profound psychological impact on left-behind families.
The Philippines has a long history of labor migration, with Filipinos seeking opportunities abroad since the colonial era. However, the organized deployment of OFWs, particularly to the Middle East, gained momentum in the 1970s. This period marked the beginning of what can be termed the "Ethical Recruitment Advocacy Era." While the initial focus was on protecting workers from exploitation and ensuring fair wages, the scope of advocacy has broadened over the decades. Today, it encompasses a wider range of issues, including pre-departure orientation, skills development, access to legal assistance, and psychosocial support for both OFWs and their families.
One often overlooked segment of the OFW population is pastoral workers. These individuals, often priests, nuns, and lay missionaries, dedicate themselves to serving religious communities abroad. Sri Lanka, with its significant Catholic population, has become a destination for Filipino pastoral workers. While their motivations are primarily spiritual, they are not immune to the challenges faced by other OFWs. They, too, navigate the complexities of contract negotiation, cultural adjustments, and the emotional toll of being separated from their loved ones. Unlike those seeking economic opportunities, pastoral workers may face unique challenges, including navigating religious hierarchies, adapting to different liturgical practices, and addressing the spiritual needs of diverse communities.
Contract negotiation is a critical aspect of the OFW experience, regardless of the nature of their work. A well-defined contract serves as a safeguard, outlining the terms of employment, including salary, working hours, benefits, and repatriation procedures. However, the reality is that many OFWs, particularly those in vulnerable positions, lack the knowledge and resources to effectively negotiate favorable contracts. This can leave them susceptible to exploitation, unfair wages, and unsafe working conditions. The ethical recruitment advocacy movement has played a crucial role in empowering OFWs with information and resources to navigate this process. Organizations dedicated to OFW rights provide pre-departure orientation programs that cover contract negotiation skills, legal rights, and cultural awareness.
The timeframe of the Ethical Recruitment Advocacy Era can be broadly categorized into distinct phases. The 1970s and 1980s saw the initial mobilization of advocacy groups and the formulation of government policies aimed at regulating recruitment agencies and protecting OFW rights. The 1990s witnessed increased international cooperation and the development of international instruments, such as the UN Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families. The 2000s and beyond have focused on strengthening implementation mechanisms, promoting ethical recruitment practices, and addressing the emerging challenges of globalization and changing labor market dynamics.
The psychological impact of OFW deployment on left-behind families is a significant yet often under-addressed issue. The prolonged absence of a parent or spouse can create emotional strain, particularly for children. Studies have shown that children of OFWs may experience feelings of abandonment, anxiety, and difficulty adjusting to the changing family dynamics. The responsibility of managing the household and raising children often falls on the remaining parent, who may experience increased stress and burden. Furthermore, the physical distance can make it challenging to maintain close emotional connections, leading to communication gaps and feelings of isolation.
The advent of technology, such as video calls and social media, has helped bridge the communication gap to some extent. However, it cannot fully replace the physical presence and emotional support provided by a family member. Recognizing the need to address these challenges, various organizations have implemented programs aimed at providing psychosocial support to left-behind families. These programs often include counseling services, support groups, and educational workshops on parenting and coping mechanisms.
Finding reliable employment opportunities is a crucial concern for aspiring OFWs. Websites like OFWJobs.org provide a platform for connecting job seekers with potential employers. These platforms can be valuable resources for finding legitimate job openings, understanding market trends, and accessing information about pre-departure requirements. However, it's essential for individuals to exercise caution and thoroughly research potential employers before entering into any agreements.
The evolving landscape of OFW work requires ongoing efforts to ensure ethical recruitment practices, protect worker rights, and provide adequate support for both OFWs and their families. Strengthening international cooperation, empowering OFWs with knowledge and resources, and addressing the psychological impact of separation are crucial steps towards creating a more just and equitable system for these modern-day heroes. The journey towards realizing the full potential of labor migration while mitigating its inherent challenges requires continuous dialogue, collaboration, and a commitment to prioritizing the well-being of all individuals involved.
The role of government agencies, civil society organizations, and international bodies is critical in this endeavor. Government agencies must enforce regulations, monitor recruitment agencies, and provide accessible channels for redressal of grievances. Civil society organizations play a crucial role in advocacy, awareness-raising, and providing direct services to OFWs and their families. International cooperation is essential for addressing cross-border issues, promoting ethical recruitment standards, and ensuring the protection of migrant worker rights.
Furthermore, fostering greater understanding and empathy within society is crucial for recognizing the contributions and sacrifices of OFWs. Moving beyond the rhetoric of "modern-day heroes" requires acknowledging the complex realities of their experiences, addressing the challenges they face, and celebrating their resilience and unwavering pursuit of a better future for themselves and their families. The narrative of OFW life is a testament to the human spirit's capacity for endurance, adaptability, and the unwavering pursuit of hope in the face of adversity.
You can explore job opportunities and resources for OFWs at OFWJobs.org.
The journey of the OFW is far from over. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the phenomenon of labor migration will continue to evolve. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that this journey is one of dignity, fairness, and opportunity for all. The ongoing efforts to promote ethical recruitment practices, protect worker rights, and provide comprehensive support for OFWs and their families represent a vital step towards realizing this vision.

Volunteer World's sea turtle conservation volunteer
By Naomi Jaqueline Guadarrama Dominguez
I am in beautiful Costa Rica, surrounded by lush vegetation and stunning biodiversity. I feel deeply connected to nature and excited to be part of Volunteer World's Sea Turtle Conservation program. I am working alongside a passionate and dedicated team to protect these amazing creatures and their habitat.
Every day, I patrol the beaches, protect the nests and marvel at the freedom of rescued turtles that are released into the ocean. It is a privilege to witness such unique moments and to know that I am contributing to the conservation of these incredible species.
In addition to working with the turtles, I also have the opportunity to collaborate on reforestation and wildlife conservation projects in the rainforests. It is exciting to know that my work is making a difference in protecting Costa Rica's biodiversity.
I feel fortunate to be part of this team and to have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment and the local community. It is a life-changing experience that is teaching me about the importance of conservation and protecting the planet.
Recommendations for Protecting the Environment
1.Adopt a Tree: Adopting a tree and caring for it over time is crucial because mature trees absorb more carbon dioxide and provide more environmental benefits than young trees. They also help combat climate change and improve air quality.
2.Use Ecological Paints: Eco-friendly paints have low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which helps maintain indoor air quality and reduces pollution. This is important because VOCs can cause health problems and contribute to smog.
3.Create a Rain Garden: A rain garden helps absorb and filter rainwater, reducing runoff and water pollution. This is essential to prevent flooding and protect local water bodies from pollutants.
4.Participate in Citizen Science Projects: Joining citizen science projects that monitor biodiversity, water quality or climate provides valuable data for research and increases environmental awareness. This is important because it involves the community in environmental protection and promotes environmental education.
5.Promote Urban Agriculture: Supporting or initiating urban agriculture projects not only provides fresh, local food, but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with food transportation and improves urban biodiversity. This is crucial to creating more sustainable and resilient communities.

beginnings of a william wisp backstory fic thats actually an elaborate ruse for me to explore the un-witness protection program and the goings on of deadwood. because seriously i think we all need to think about them more
It takes William 3 days to stumble out of the woods.
Or so he guesses – time is hard to track when you can barely keep yourself upright and just blearily crash into every tree and bush there is and hope you go the right way.
They told him it’d been a week. They told him the funeral was tomorrow. They told him a lot more, probably, but at that point he’d been running on empty for so long the world had started to blink in and out with every breath.
He got a break, after that. Your parents were worried, he heard, along with some ‘should’ve looked harder’s and ‘shouldn’t have looked at all’s. They let him go home, where he collapsed into his cold, pristine bed and promptly passed out.
(He woke up less than an hour later, when his mother came to check on him and thought he’d died in his sleep. He didn’t know how to tell her he’s apparently been dead for a week already.)
Two days later, when the town doctor had come in, eager-eyed to finally get a look at someone returning from the woods human, and left looking deeply disturbed, he was allowed out of the house again. Not to school, obviously, since he was still shaky and too-pale and covered in bruises and scratches and hiding bandages under his hoodie, but just a short walk.
He cried when he realised the Un-witness Protection crew were waiting for him in their usual spot. And then cried more, because he wasn’t sure if he was able to cry, and also because fuck, he’d never let them see him upset like this before. But he could tell they were all shaken too. He’d been trying his best not to think since he came to, but… He knew he’d disappeared into the woods. He knew they would’ve assumed the worst – and he wasn’t even sure they were wrong.
He went intangible for the first time that day, standing shellshocked with tears streaming down his face, as Mary ran up to try to hug him. He felt it the moment her arms passed straight through him, saw the looks on his friends’ faces turn from relief to a mix of fear and pure shock. Heard Mary say “Wait, Will–?” as he stepped back, seeing her confusion suddenly drop into understanding.
And watching, horrified, as he reached out to her, and… grabbed her. As if nothing was wrong. As if he hadn’t died in the cursed fucking woods and as if her arms hadn’t gone through him and as if he hadn’t fucking glowed when it happened.
“…William?” Her voice shook, fear and hope laced together in a horrible cocktail that made his throat close up around even more tears. He took a breath.
“Hey, Mary.”
A dam broke. She pulled him back in and this time his body didn’t betray him. He felt her arms wrap around him and felt how warm, how alive she was, how that feeling multiplied as the entire group came over to join the hug. This was their first group hug in months, not since the night they found Dara with only a broken leg on the edge of the woods after losing him in a chase.
It felt nice. It felt like home. For the first time since he’d woken up at the base off a cliff, William felt safe.
It was somewhat of a blur after that. Like one of their interrogations, everyone took turns asking questions and taking notes. It felt weird, being on the other side of it for once. No, I don’t remember what happened. Yes, I know who I am. No, I haven’t had any other moments of intangibility. Yes, I still have a heartbeat.
He probably should’ve felt bad for lying. But he couldn’t – He really didn’t remember. He knows there was a wisp. A few, probably. But nobody asked do you still see wisps all over town or have you really slept since you got back or hey, how come you aren’t a fucking decomposing sack of bones right now anyway? He’d have to remind them to be more accurate with their questions, next time they found a spirit.
Next time. Next time they saw him, more like.
#hi. sorry for abusing italics theyre my fave thing in the world#deadwood#myfic#prime defenders#william wisp#primedefenders#maintags. scary#this is scheduled btw. nd i WILL finish this fic i prommy#IF U LIKE THIS FEEL FREE TO ASK ME MORE ABT DEADWOOD/UPP/PD IN GENERAL I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS

Plan India Safer Cities
80,000 households in Mangolpuri, Madanpur Khadar and Gautampuri in Delhi are witnesses to efforts to make the city safe for young women and give wings to their ambition. Young women here are building promising futures, reclaiming public spaces for themselves and shattering boundaries that routinely make their lives ‘safer’. Here, public school teachers advocate girls’ safety and sanitation needs so that they can continue higher education. In these communities, girls aspire to a career in sports and thrive through technical as well as vocational training. All this is the result of Plan India’s long-term gender transformation programme Safer Cities which focuses on the gap in programming and research pertaining to how adolescent girls experience public spaces differently than men.
Safer Cities has put adolescent girls at the centre and challenges the perception of safety and fear of violence that define girls’ negotiation. It supports girls and boys in becoming active citizens by building capacities and creating opportunities for participation in city life. The programme is also being implemented in two wards of Jaipur.
Safer Cities Key Outcomes
Increased adolescent girls’ safety and access to public spaces
Increased girls’ active and meaningful participation in urban development and governance
Increased autonomous mobility in the city for adolescent girls
While Safer Cities works to empower girls, it also engages boys and men in the communities as allies. Strengthening local youth clubs is pivotal in effectively gathering evidence and data for Plan’s advocacy work. Programme activities help the children and youth visualise alternatives where safe spaces exist for them to counter the ever-present fear of violence. The integrated community-based approach uses innovative engagement modalities and gender transformative approaches. It also employs unique feedback and participatory research tools such as training curriculums, community scorecards and Information Education Communication (IEC) materials to involve parents and community leaders. Intergenerational dialogues help elders acknowledge the disparities and challenge the conventional understanding of safety. Dialogues were initiated within the community for addressing gender power relations and to challenge stereotypical social norms that perpetuate insecurity and exclusion of girls in cities.
Making Safer Cities community-led puts the onus of assessing public spaces from a gender lens and ensuring the safety of girls back on the neighbourhood. Plan India forged strategic partnerships with the Department of Women and Child Development, Delhi Police, transport service providers, Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the National Institute of Urban Affairs. Through Plan’s advocacy, public transport in Delhi was studied to understand the needs of adolescent girls and to recommend specific changes. A consultation was also held on public budgets from the lens of women and girls and the resultant policy brief ‘Gender and Governance at the Grassroots: A Study of South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s 2018 Budgets’ was published. Safer Cities takes pride in girl-led negotiations with local representatives for gender-sensitive budgeting for the programme area. Safer Cities represents a collaboration between Plan International, Women in Cities International and UN-HABITAT, thus benefitting from the distinct and impressive track record each organisation boasts from previous work done to address violence against women and girls.

Sustainability in Action: The Role of Study Abroad Programs
The Sustainability is more than just a trendy term; it is essential for the survival of our planet. It involves meeting today's needs without jeopardizing the ability of future generations to meet theirs. With the pressing issues of climate change, biodiversity loss, social inequality, and economic challenges, the message is clear: we must act now. However, action is not only the responsibility of policymakers and businesses; it requires the involvement of every individual, including those in international education.
The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals
In 2015, the United Nations launched the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a global call to action to eradicate poverty, protect our planet, and improve the quality of life for all—both now and in the future. These goals, which aim to be achieved by 2030, are rooted in the principle of leaving no one behind. They provide a comprehensive framework for sustainable development, addressing a broad range of economic, social, and environmental issues.
The realization of the UN SDGs by 2030 hinges on the collective efforts of governments, businesses, NGOs, educational institutions, and the public, working together to create a better future for all.
Explore the Arts and Humanities Programs: https://authentica.com/disciplines/arts-and-humanities/
Why Aligning Study Abroad Programs with the UN SDGs Matters
Study abroad programs have a pivotal role in this global mission. They are not just opportunities for cultural exchange; they are platforms for learning and applying sustainability in real-world settings. When students travel to various parts of the world, they witness the challenges and solutions related to sustainability firsthand. They learn that sustainability is not a one-size-fits-all concept but a complex and evolving field that demands both local understanding and global collaboration.
Programs aligned with the UN SDGs give students the opportunity to be at the forefront of sustainable change. They become active participants rather than passive observers. Through these programs, students can engage in projects that address issues such as clean water, responsible consumption, and community development while promoting gender equality and reducing inequalities.
Business related Programs: https://authentica.com/disciplines/business-study-abroad/
Sustainability Study Abroad: How Our Programs Aligned with the UN SDGs Impact the World
We envision a world sustained by responsible global citizens. That’s why our academic programs encourage students to explore and engage with one or more UN SDGs, empowering them to make a meaningful global impact. In designing and delivering our programs, we ensure the integration of these essential elements:
Engagement in Real-World Projects and Collaborations Our programs involve hands-on projects that make a tangible difference in local communities. Students collaborate with local organizations, NGOs, and businesses, gaining practical experience in implementing sustainable practices. For instance, our program "Water Poverty in Rural India" allows engineering students to tackle water scarcity challenges. They participate in water conservation initiatives, using water test kits to measure chemicals and dissolved solids, and learn from both ancient and modern water storage solutions. Additionally, they witness the positive impact of local NGOs' water conservation efforts in rural areas like Rajasthan and Haryana.
Application of Academic Knowledge for Broader Impact Our study abroad programs shift the focus from merely acquiring knowledge to using it for meaningful, far-reaching change. Students are encouraged to apply their classroom learning in real-world contexts, bridging the gap between theory and practice. For example, our "Humanitarian Engineering Internship in Singapore" offers engineering students the chance to work on projects with social enterprises, addressing critical challenges related to sustainability and inclusivity. Alongside academic growth, students experience local culture through guided immersions, setting the stage for personal exploration of the city and country.
Fostering Global Sustainability Awareness Our programs are carefully crafted to expose students to diverse strategies that different countries employ to promote sustainability. By studying abroad, students gain firsthand insight into innovative and culturally unique sustainable practices. For instance, our program "Sustainability in South Korea" immerses students in the country's sustainability and social enterprise landscape through interactions with leaders, policymakers, and experts in the field.
This global perspective enables students to draw parallels and contrasts with their own country's practices and challenges. It inspires them to think creatively about how these international strategies can be adapted and applied within their own domains.

Sunday, August 11, 2024 - Kamala Harris
This is the ‘official’ schedule of Kamala Harris today on the campaign trail. With some added detail for press purposes. Additionally, the Vice President is traveling with Mayor Michelle Wu on this trip to gain some valuable insight into the region while traveling and meeting with voters.
Albany, NY Event Location: University at Albany, SUNY Event Type: Town Hall Event Time: 9:00 - 10:30 ET Springfield, MA Event Location: Springfield Symphony Hall Event Type: Target Community Event Event Time: 12:30 - 13:30 ET Hartford, CT Event Location: Steps of the Connecticut State Capital Event Type: Call for Policy Change and Activism Event Time: 15:30 - 17:00 ET Providence, RI Event Location: RISD Museum Event Type: Fundraising Event Event Time: 19:00 - 22:000
Albany, NY Here are 2 questions that garnered a very positive response from the audience: Q: "Vice President Harris, the Biden administration tried to forgive student debt, but that effort was struck down. What will the Harris administration do to address the student debt crisis, and how do you plan to prevent future generations from falling into the same trap?" A: "Thank you for that question. The student debt crisis is one of the most pressing issues facing our country, and I share your frustration with the recent setback in our efforts to provide relief. But let me be clear: we are not giving up. My administration will prioritize a comprehensive overhaul of the student loan system to ensure it works for students and not for big banks. One of our key initiatives will be to cut out these middlemen who have profited off the backs of students for far too long. We will push for a system where the federal government directly manages student loans, with low or even zero interest rates, making higher education more accessible and affordable for all. Additionally, we will work to expand income-driven repayment plans and strengthen loan forgiveness programs, particularly for those entering public service, teaching, and other vital professions. Our goal is to create a system that doesn’t saddle our young people with a lifetime of debt, but instead empowers them to contribute to our economy and society without the burden of crushing financial obligations. We must invest in our future, and that starts with ensuring that higher education is a pathway to opportunity, not a trapdoor into debt." Q: “Vice President Harris, across the country, we’re seeing attacks on education through book bans and the suppression of free speech on K-12 and higher education campuses. What is your administration’s stance on these issues, and how will you protect the freedom of speech and the right to access diverse viewpoints?” A: "The attacks on education we’re witnessing today are deeply concerning and fundamentally un-American. Book bans, curriculum censorship, and the suppression of free speech on campuses undermine the very foundation of our democracy. In my administration, we will fiercely defend the rights of students and educators to read, learn, and express themselves freely. This includes ensuring that our children have access to a wide range of literature that reflects diverse perspectives and experiences. Education is about broadening minds, not narrowing them, and we will fight to protect that. Freedom of speech is a core value of our nation, and it’s essential that students, whether in K-12 or higher education, have the right to express their opinions and engage in healthy debate. We will work to protect these rights by supporting policies that prevent censorship and promote academic freedom. Our administration will stand with educators, students, and parents to ensure that our schools and universities remain places of learning, growth, and exploration, where every voice can be heard and every story can be told."
Springfield, MA "At the heart of American culture lies the power of the arts—music, dance, theater, and visual arts that bring us together, challenge our perceptions, and inspire our creativity. Our campaign is deeply committed to keeping the arts alive and thriving in every community across this nation. We believe that the arts are not just an expression of our culture but a vital part of our national identity. That’s why we will fight to ensure that funding for the arts remains strong, with expanded support for NEA programs and other initiatives that nurture the talents of our artists, from local communities to the national stage. We understand that being an artist in today’s America can be challenging, but it is also more important than ever. Our campaign will explore ways to support artists and cultural organizations, drawing lessons from the past when the arts were given the prominence they deserve. We’re not going back, but we’re also not afraid to resurrect the ideas and programs that worked—programs that gave artists the opportunity to thrive, create, and contribute to our shared cultural heritage. The arts are not a luxury; they are a necessity, and we are committed to ensuring that they continue to be a vibrant part of our future." "I believe that the arts should not be an afterthought in our national budget; they should be a priority. We will work to ensure that funding for the arts is not only preserved but expanded, so that every community can benefit from the transformative power of creativity. From urban centers to rural towns, the arts have the ability to bring people together, to heal, and to inspire."
Providence, RI 200 guests were invited to RISD Museum for a night of learning about our campaign and some of the new policy positions we plan to put into the forefront for a better tomorrow in America. Plates ran a cost of $2,500 and this was an event for New Englanders who want to invest in our campaign at that level. Close to $1 million was raised thanks to some donors and their additional generosity. The venue was chosen to allow for Kamala to talk about her speech in Springfield and how funding for the arts will always have a place in the budget because arts will always have a central place in the American way of life. ~BR~

How to improve the criminal justice system in the Philippines
The criminal justice system in the Philippines faces significant challenges requiring immediate reforms to rectify systemic issues resulting in the erosion of public trust and human rights violations. To enhance the efficacy of the system, several recommendations are proposed. Firstly, the establishment of an independent commission comprising senior judges, jurists, academics, and civil society representatives is recommended to conduct a comprehensive review of the criminal justice system. This commission should identify deficiencies in the investigation, prosecution, and adjudication processes within six months and provide actionable recommendations to the government. Secondly, there is a pressing need to implement a robust witness and victim protection program, with clear operational guidelines delineating the responsibilities of law enforcement officers and sanctions for non-compliance. Additionally, agencies tasked with receiving, investigating, and prosecuting complaints against police and military officials should be strengthened to ensure complainants' protection and hold accountable those responsible for fabricating cases.
Furthermore, the prohibition of labeling practices by armed forces and other agencies should be enforced through explicit directives, accompanied by investigations and removal from positions of those found responsible. Moreover, immediate investigations and prosecutions of individuals implicated in extrajudicial killings and other abuses, as identified by the Melo Commission, are imperative, regardless of direct involvement or command responsibility. Additionally, domestic laws should be enacted and implementing agencies established in alignment with international human rights treaties, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. The Philippines should also sign the new International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and implement recommendations outlined by the UN Human Rights Committee in December 2003.
Lastly, the critical issue of jail congestion must be addressed by augmenting the number of judges, prosecutors, and public defense attorneys to efficiently process cases filed by law enforcement agencies. In conclusion, urgent reforms are imperative to rectify the systemic shortcomings of the Philippine criminal justice system. The proposed recommendations serve as a vital step towards fostering fairness, efficiency, and justice within the system and must be diligently implemented to restore public trust and uphold human rights.

Peace Candle Reflection for March 3, 2024
Our congregation has added the lighting of a Peace Candle each week. We do this right at the beginning of the prayer and meditation section of the service, when we're deeply in community. The lighting begins with a few sentences that are fairly consistent from week to week, to which we might add a quote or a prayer that's specific to the events of that week. Here is what I said on March 3.
As we approach our time of meditation and prayer, many of us have heavy hearts as we think about war, displacement, famine, and violence all over the world. We think of Ukraine, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, and Israel/Palestine, among others. We also remember those lost to violence in our families and communities, and the aftermath of pain in our loved ones and neighbors, known and unknown. We wish for the safe homecoming of hostages, displaced people, and service members.
This week, my heart is breaking not only for those who have lost loved ones, even dozens of loved ones, to war and famine and mass violence; my heart is also breaking for those who are so gripped by despair that they turn to self-destruction. My hope and wish and prayer for all of you, and for those you love, is that achievable acts of kindness and justice will help you hold on to hope.
What the government of Israel is doing to the people of Gaza, the violence of bombs and the violence of starvation, is wrong. What the government of Russia is doing to the people of Ukraine is wrong. The encouragement that politicians and pundits are perpetuating to incite violence against Trans and non-binary kids is wrong. Violence against women and anyone who dares to exercise bodily autonomy is wrong. The violence we are doing to the planet is wrong. We could get stuck and overwhelmed by the enormity of our grief and anger. Instead, let’s be strategic. Let’s find strength and comfort in one another. Let’s root our actions in love.
Choose one right action each week, and then take a deep breath and remember that we do not have to encounter the beauty and the horror and the heartbreak and the promise of this world alone. Your one right action can be small. Maybe you are writing to the White House to offer your opinion about foreign aid. Maybe you are calling your Congressperson to ask for a supplemental humanitarian aid package for Gaza. Maybe you are preparing a gift basket of dates for your Muslim co-worker as Ramadan approaches. Maybe you fly a Ukrainian flag on your front porch. Maybe you are attending a school board meeting and testifying for the need to protect our young people in school. Maybe you are donating to Doctors Without Borders or the UN World Food Program. Maybe you are attending a public witness event in favor of a cease fire. Choose one right thing. And then practice community care. Breathe. Connect. Love.
We will light the central candle in our Joys and Sorrows bowl in hope for peace. May we shape our own lives in the paths of peace, and may we direct our energy in the world toward the peace that comes through justice. With peace in our hearts, we turn toward our personal joys and sorrows.

Kargil Vijay Diwas 2023
Shree Satya Sai Vidyalaya
Jamnagar - Gujarat
On this solemn occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, we gather here to pay homage and express our deepest gratitude to the brave soldiers who fearlessly fought and made the ultimate sacrifice for our Motherland during the Kargil War in 1999.
Today, as we commemorate the victory of 'Operation Vijay', we remember the indomitable spirit and unwavering courage of our soldiers who stood strong in the face of adversity, defending our nation's honor and territorial integrity.
To honor their memory, the students of Shree Satya Sai Vidyalaya have come together with heartfelt performances - a Skit depicting the valor of our soldiers, a PPT that narrates the inspiring tales of heroism, a Quiz that tests our knowledge about this historic chapter, and Song and Dance that convey our emotions of pride and gratitude.
It is heartening to see around 4000 students participating in this program, as it reflects the collective respect and admiration we hold for those who selflessly served our country.
As we witness these performances, let us also reflect on the sacrifices made by our soldiers' families. Their unwavering support and strength in the face of loss are commendable and a source of inspiration to us all.
Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds us of the importance of unity and patriotism. It is a day to reiterate our commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty of our nation and to stand united as one in times of crisis.
Let us never forget the lessons of history, and may the spirit of our brave soldiers continue to guide and inspire us to work towards a peaceful and prosperous future for our country.
Today, we bow our heads in reverence to the heroes who ensured that our tricolor flies high with pride. May their sacrifice always be etched in our hearts, and may we always cherish and protect the freedom they fought for.
Jai Hind!

GGG.04: GGG Exile Order
Sunou, Ushi and Reiko asks Hana about Mamoru having seen Stealth GaiGar, but she has no idea is is distraught with confusion.
Kaidou explains to GGG how after using THE POWER to destroy the Z-Master, the Red Planet Warriors found themselves in the Void, and their were able to witness the Space Contraction Phenomena. They travelled to the source of the Phenomenon, only to find themselves back at Jupiter. Finding Mamoru and the Pas-W Machine, he didn't even have a chance to explain before Pia Decem attacked, and Kaidou and the 4 pieces of the Pas-Q Machine were sent down to earth, he doesn't know what happened to J and Mamoru after that, and it was a year before he made it to Japan, and was soon attacked by Mamoru, who he realised was a Replijin, but he doesn't know if Mamoru or the original Galeon are alive.
The 11 Sol Planetary Masters are functions of the control terminal for the Trinary Star System, but like the Z-Master they seem to have moved beyond their functions. The only thing they can do is travel to the Trinary Star System via the Galeoria Comet, currently around Mars.
Yaginuma makes a proposal to the UN to allow the New Division Fleet to dispatch for this investigation, but the committee seem generally opposed, for financial and other reasons, even as Taiga supports his successor, arguing the situation does affect them, and seeking to focus on the Space Energy Development Plan, as Kotaro loses patience, Secretary-General Rose Approval calms him, tells him she agrees, but they need more time.
GGG hold a funeral for Papillon Noir, dead at 24, Renais, watching, recalls Papillon telling her her desire to return to the Amazon to finish he research, and runs off, while Gai vows to go even if the politicians won't give approval, but the entire membership of GGG, save the still grieving Entoji and a watching Volfogg, make clear he won't be going alone.
As Taiga informs the Amami's that Repli-Galeon was a fake, their son has yet to return, Kaidou approaches Hana, needing to tell her the truth.
GGG, at Hyuma's command, start prepping the Division Fleet for launch. Takanohashi enquires with Volfogg if Entoji is aboard Takahaya, but he isn't. As Ushi is finishing checks on the AI of HiRyu and EnRyu, suddenly all ships lose systems, choking both Volfogg and Inubouzaki, and lockdown is initiated, Entoji looks up from his grief to take note. As Hirata and others work, it becomes clear to Gai that the UN Security Counsel has used the Protect System, installed in case of needing to shut Orbit Base down in case of hijack by enemy threats, to look it down, and an armada of Cosmo Robos, in R34 and R33 type, are now approaching.
Yang Long-Li, acting as commander of UN Space Fleet, orders they surrender control of Orbit Base to the Secretary-General, on the authority of the UN Security Counsel. The only possible avenue GGG have is to reprogram the main computer, the only thing they can get is using Gai's Evoluder abilities to access it as Mikoto, Nozaki, Inubouzaki and Hirata work on the reprogramming. Rose Approval watches as the Security Counsel decides to disable the Drive Engines, and Yang dispatched FuRyu, RaiRyu and Mic.
As Hirume undocks, Yang privately wonders if GGG will act in time.
KoRyu and AnRyu appeal to their brothers to not interfere, but fight when attacked, as Takahaya regains control, but Mic boards Tsukuyomi as Mikoto finishes retaking control. Yang is forced to order the Cosmo Robos to prepare to attack.
Yaginuma tells the others to get going, leaving the launch preparations to himself Takanohashi, Nozaki, Hirata and Inubouzaki.
A missile volley from the CR Units is swiftly disassembled by the Carpenters, but their 3-Laws programming means they can't hard the human piloted CR Units.
Gai on the other hand, is more than happy to act to disable them, but it turns out the Final Fusion Program has been deleted. Takahaya isn't ready for a Mirror Shield, HyoRyu and EnRyu aren't ready to deploy, all seems lost.
Until onto Tsukuyomi's bridge steps Taiga, accompanied by Liger, Swan and Stallion, who has the Emergency Startup Program on the Tiger Wood Golf Club, which he installs using the specially built console, allowing Final Fusion for GaoFighGar. The Gatling Driver is immediately sent out to GaoFighGar, and used to immobilise the CR Units in a spacefold. Yang announces only one remaining option, using Disc X to form a Solitary Wave, which would also destroy the Orbit Base, and asks if that is acceptable
Before any response can be give by lower members of the council, Rose Approval officially declares the Division Fleet and the GGG crew aboard traitors, and exiles them from the Solar System, and Yang smiles, because the plan is complete.
KoRyu and AnRyu thank their brothers for the act, as they're now aboard to join the mission, as is Mic, who brought Taiga and the America members. Yaginuma acknowledges Taiga as once again the chief of Gutsy Galaxy Guard.
In News reports heard by Sunou, Reiko and their teacher, Hana, Yosef and the puppies, Isamu and Ai, the Ushiyama Brothers, Sakura, Kaidou's mother, Alouette Pommier, Akamatsu Industries' Akamatsu, Ritchan and Yamajii, the coup d'etat of GGG is announced, while the UN has issued no statement, Rose Approval privately wishes them luck, and as the Division Fleet dealers Yang and the CR Units make clear their support, and Yaginuma, Inubouzaki, Nozaki, Hirata, Takanohashi and the Carpenters wave their comrades off to the Galeoria Comet. Kaidou thinks of Latio, remembering the tristje had in him, not as a fellow from the Trinary Star System, bit as a fellow earthling. Liger is excited to see his driver has joined them, though she claims just to have come for the hell of it.
