Kairi/Jaune

When/why did you start fanning over them?

It was created specifically for Taking Back the Crown (my multicrossover miasma fanfiction that has just reached the 84-chapter mark). This was WAY back in its early days, though. I was having a conversation with @gavillain about what I was planning to do for the first trip to Remnant to get the Dust, because GA is basically my editor who has poured a fair amount of blood and sweat into TBTC and is either directly or indirectly responsible for pretty much every actual good idea in there, and I mentioned that I was sending Sora, Riku, and Kairi to Remnant at the end of V3 to intercept Ruby, Jaune, Ren, and Nora on their way to Mistral. This was waaaaaaay before I had the concept of the “Cinnamons” as a hero team and was really the beginnings of it. Anyway, I mentioned that the two teams were going to meet, and GA was just like, “JC. Do you realize that you are putting Jaune and Kairi in the same room? Look at her hair. Look at her personality.” And I was just FLOORED because the Pyrrha parallels are…they’re THERE. We even had a short conversation about how it was kind of like the film “Vertigo” but not creepy. So I wrote the ship into the meeting of the two heroic factions. And it has been one of the absolute CUTEST ships to write for.

What makes you like this couple?

I actually kind of…forgot about all the Kairi-Pyrrha parallels along the way, because just on their own merit, Kairi and Jaune have a ton in common. They play second fiddle to the “protagonist” squad, and they need a little more training than their comrades to get to the level of combat-ready, but they have huge hearts and want to help everyone they can, one person at a time until they’ve saved an entire world. And their level of caring for each other would be immense.

Is there anything you don’t like about this couple?

Not really? Why is this question even here? I don’t really have ships where there’s a part of them I don’t like.

What’s your favorite outfit on them?

Well, when it comes to Jaune, I’m a fan of his day-to-day outfit (which I don’t think changed between V3 and V4, but I might be missing things). The footie pajamas and the dress are iconic, and I love how they bolster his character, but this is an absolute aesthetic (and I love knowing now that the whole time, that shirt’s been Pumpkin Pete):

Meanwhile, we’ve only had KHIII Kairi for half a year and it’s the absolute best look she’s ever served. The way the outfit is so intricate and detailed. The combo of the KHII pink with the KH1 short hair. Her hair is short again, everyone, and it’s so freaking cute. AND THE BOOTS!

It’s the birthday of one of them! How do they celebrate?

With a fairly traditional party involving cake plus assorted other sweets, loud music, dancing, and a lot of friends! Though if Jaune’s the one with the birthday, Kairi will try to throw him a surprise party and therefore must pretend she forgot about his birthday. She’s not a very good actor, and Jaune KNOWS she wouldn’t forget his birthday, so when she’s suddenly all “Oh no! I completely forgot!”, Jaune is well aware there’s a surprise party in the wings. But he plays along. He enters the designated room. Everyone yells “SURPRISE!” and confetti pops. Jaune isn’t a good actor either; “What a surprise! I didn’t see this coming!”. Kairi knows he figured her out, and they have a good laugh over it before digging into the cake.

How would they react in an embarrassing situation?

Kairi would take it with grace. Jaune would try to act cool about it, playing off that he ends up in blunders all the time, but really, it’s eating at him. Kairi talking to him about it and letting him vent can improve his attitude.

What do you think they’ll be like in the near future?

Bringing their heroics to all the worlds they can and fighting the forces of evil.

What’s an ideal date for them?

It’s pretty vanilla - going out to a café for a chat over dinner, then probably a walk in some scenic place like the Radiant Garden fountains. They’re also cool just chilling at home, playing a board game or something else relaxingly recreational.

Who/what gets in the way of your ship?

If KHIII makes SoKai canon, that will get in the way of MORE THAN ONE OF MY SHIPS but I’ll just live in AU land :-) I’m not really sure who they’re leaning Jaune toward in RWBY, but they have many options to pick from that will also send me to AU land.

What is something they could do that would make your life complete?

Ummm…I guess references are all we’ve got, since they’re crossover. Maybe have Jaune see someone with a flower-themed weapon and say how awesome flowers look on swords. Or have Kairi say she likes a guy who can rock a dress. *shrug*

Like, Deku can fuck off for 100 chapters for all I care, I want to know this family’s history from front to back. What kind of environment was Endeavor raised in? Does that explain why he has such an obsessive goal of being number 1 or is it literally just a rivalry with All Might? Speaking of, did they go to school together? Tell me more. Was it an arranged marriage or did he meet his wife in a normal situation and fall in love with her? How was their relationship before the kids? Whats the deal with Dabi? Please just give me the Todoroki backstory in its entirety so I can die in peace.

That is to say, he’s a hot blooded country bumpkin samurai with a heart of gold. Now, I’m basing that bit of characterization on the fan-translated manga which gave him some interesting verbal tics that seemed to imply he doesn’t speak the same way the kids from the big city do SO I’m quite interested to hear how he talks in the anime when we get to it in 2019.

58: Fave old/middle-aged character (30+)? I’m not saying Endeavor is old but he is approaching silver fox territory and I’m more than okay with that.
