He’s a Boy that’s a Friend

PAIRING: Ume x Male Reader (Platonic) (Fluff)

SUMMARY: Ume has one male best friend that she’s been honest to from the start: (Y/N).

Ever since middle school people always thought you were dating Ume. It’s only a natural thing to think with how attached to the hip you both were with each other. All throughout middle and high school wherever Ume was, so were you; classmates even started calling you her sidekick.

But out of everyone Ume knew at school, you were the one person she showed her true self to. Her attitude, her cunning, her selfishness, all of it. She was sure you’d gossip to all the other boys about her horrible personality, but you didn’t.

Instead you told her it made her refreshing to be around; there are too many fake people in the world, so having someone who says whats on their mind earnestly made things way easier.

“You’re such a boy, all simple minded,” she’d say, but Ume really did appreciate not having to force a smile all the time. You’re also one of the few people who’re allowed to call her Ume.

After she developed a crush on Shouta, Ume would beg (though you’d argue demand) to spend time with him and tell her all his likes and dislikes. Now you really were her sidekick. Of course, she’d do the same for you if you ever developed a crush on a girl.

There were many days where you would scold Ume while feeding her soup and medicine because she waited out in harsh wether just to be the first girl to greet Shouta that morning. She’d just stick her tongue out at you, day dreaming happily about her crush.

When she realized that Shouta liked Sawako her world fell apart, and there you were to comfort her. She didn’t really know what to do at the time, but eventually she settled on being more honest. This naturally meant her “true” personality would be exposed to everyone.

Sadly for her, it only made her more popular with the guys in her school. Now she’ll sometimes lie and say you’re dating if yelling at the guys to leave her alone doesn’t work. Endless rants about the annoying kids in her class are how you spend afternoons together.

Sometimes she’d make you dress up as Shouta so she can yell out her frustrations at you; this was a big help when she was getting over the heartbreak of not winning his heart.

Eventually she decides to become a teacher, and with your help of studying together, gets into her dream college. Whether or not you go to the same one as her doesn’t change the fact that she’ll absolutely keep in touch and always make time for her best friend.

your reputation at school wasn’t exactly… amazing. for some reason, all the students in your year made rumours that you had some sort of magical powers, you could read minds, et cetera. all because you didn’t talk to people too much.

you see, you were always a slightly awkward person. you never knew what to say or what to do when someone needed your help or comfort. so, you decided to just not talk much at all, in an attempt to get people to stop coming to you.

but now, as time went, you realised the weight of your decision. you had lost a critical part of your life, made a decision that honestly made you a bit sad to think about now.

and now — with your unapproachable and slightly scary demeanour — you had become a target of something terrible: high school gossip.

apparently, according to them, you were psychic, and had special, dark powers. their reasoning being a girl in your class named yuka got sick after sparing you a glance during the start of the first term.

and how was yuka getting sick after sparing you a glance even plausible? only the heavens knew, and they absolutely refused to tell you…

summary . . . a jazz dancer and freestyle one are a perfect example of polar opposites. having both in one room, it’s like having a penguin roam the sahara — a complete disaster that would most likely end in chaos. that kind of dynamic, was one that you and riki had. it was like a never ending game of cat and mouse, where the two of you we’re perennially at each other’s throats. you, being a jazz dancer, always worked on your lines and grace; while riki worked on dancing with swag and energy. so what happens when your dance teachers paired the two of you up for a jazz-hip hop mashup performance at the show that could make or break both of your dance careers?
