here we have a late submission for day 6 of zukki week 2024: heist au (click for better quality)
@zukki-week
more thoughts under the cut
i got back into leverage this week so of course i couldn't not draw zukki as the ot3. i think suki would work better as a grifter than a thief (maybe even a hitter) but yk. i also stayed up way too long thinking about who is the mastermind and who is the grifter/thief remaining and i got to the following conclusions:
song as the mastermind and jin as a grifter just butters up my heart like i missed these girls like crazy and i think it would fit them (also azula as jim sterling is way too funny)
but then we have azula as nate (which i think is equally funny) and ty lee as thief
also mai as nate but thats just because i ship mailee and i wanted them together
#i spent way too long on this. and im putting off homework to post this#because again: shit time management#dont look at what sokka's holding please#the nigerian job has such dark scenes i cant tell whats in them djdhjs#like dont even ask me how long i spent trying to figure out what they were wearing in this scene#anyways i think they're iconic#like the ultimate ot3s#zukki#zukki week 2024#zuko#sokka#suki#leverage au#atla#my art

im THINKING about this again. so here we go:
as stated in my tags: zuko is henry and sokka is alex.
we open with lu ten is getting married, and this is when sokka drops the cake on him and zuko. the big difference here is that lu ten is not a dick to zuko, hes actually looking out for him. the family dynamic is much more similar to what we see in atla than in rwrb, but some key differences
biggest difference is that azula is post redemption here. in atla canon she was only 14, and in this au she was still kinda a bitch at 14, but shes grown since then. she went off the rails after ursa and ozai got divorced, starting with following ozai’s rules ruthlessly, then cracking and sneaking out (#powderprincess) and then getting radicalized the other way by her new friends (let just call them “the freedom fighters”), and eventually coming back when zuko says he needs his sister. yes, he has his uncle and cousin and his mom is still alive (alas still in “africa”) but some things you just need a sibling for. and as much as azula hates to admit it, for every ounce that zuko needs her, she needs him too. so yeah, azula is bea, and she is her big brothers attack dog through and though. its been a rocky road but she loves her brother so so much and she is very defensive of him against sokka at first.
speaking of sokka!!! his white house trio: he and katara are the first children of Prez Hakota (yes, kya is still dead. sorry but i have to fridge her 😔), and yue is the granddaughter of the VP. sokka and yue dated a few years ago, but eventually called it. however!! sokka respects her too much to use her to play with the media so instead we have *drum roll* suki!!
suki is sokka’s one (1) friend from college—both were political affairs majors but sokka is trying to go to law school and suki wanted to be a journalist and freelance photographer. obviously this complicates things, but suki is ever so respectful and acts as an Inside Source, as well as being a mentor to katara, who also wants to be a journalist.
in this au zuko doesnt just want to be a writer, he wants to be a playwright/screenwriter. hes truly insufferable the way he can quote shakespeare sonnets from memory, and has way too many opinions about 20th century rom coms, but luckily it also means that he recites poetry to sokka in a cheesy romantic way.
also! two of zuko’s closest friends are aang and toph. he met toph in a boarding school they both went to (tophs parents let her study abroad growing up bc she was a wild child who wanted freedom and it was the only way to appease her). aang is the son of a diplomat that zuko met on the equivalent of henry’s gap year in mongolia.
i have more Thinkin Thoughts but thats for another day
zukka rwrb au. think about it.
#rwrb#zukka#atla#anyway!!#thinkin of callin this au#royal red and brilliant blue#still no idea how the countries work exactly and how much culture is atla-verse and regular modern day#but yeah. :) them <3#also!!! please know azula is my ULTIMATE blorbo in this au#i love her so so so much

[Updated 1/6/25]
I've written a kinda ridiculous amount of content for this fandom at this point, so this post is intended as a fun way to organize all that content on this blog. I'll update this post periodically as I share more works.
Most of my works are gen fic- with a heavy focus on character study and "bridging the gaps" of canon with lil bonus scenes of what I feel certain characters might've been up to in between episodes. However, I do on occasion enjoy exploring a few different relationship dynamics... and actual ratings for my stories vary.
Ratings and pairings will be listed on this masterpost, as well as any particularly vital content warnings. For more thorough content warnings, please reference the tags on the linked AO3 listings.
~~~
Multichapter AUs:
Crack The Paragon Series
Series Summary:
In the wake of an ill-fated discovery, Steven vies to pick up all the pieces. The Gems are in turmoil: Pearl can’t speak the truth, Garnet chose to separate, and Amethyst's confidence has hit rock bottom. Somehow, his mom is Pink Diamond. But what exactly does that mean for him? Why did his mom really choose to fake-shatter herself and obscure her identity? With the very foundation of his home life shifting around him, can Steven ever hope to find answers on his own? Or will his growing obsession with seeking this truth ultimately crack his world all over again? Canon divergent as of season 3 episode 20, Bismuth.
Stories:
Crack the Paragon- 70,705 words, 14/41 chapters. Rated T. Light Steven/Connie.
In another world, he doesn't have his mother's sword or shield to hide behind when Bismuth lands her strike. The bubble pops. Steven falls apart.
Content warning: Major character injury.
Everything Is Different Now- 1,014 words. Rated G.
After her unfortunate exile, Bismuth returns to her forge to work, and to reflect on her mistakes.
Seeing Pink- 2,475 words. Rated G.
Following a video call with Connie, Steven reacts to the discovery that... his eyes aren’t always human anymore.
Misalignment- 16,680 words, 20/? chapters. Rated T.
His family’s not present the third time he runs away... They never see the creature he becomes. Early corruption AU.
Content warning: Minor body horror.
Hollowed Moon- 8,046 words, 14/? chapters. Rated T.
Stevonnie doesn't crash the Star Skipper onto that jungle moon. Instead, they crash on a craggy fragment of rock suspended thousands of miles away from its associated colony, long forgotten. On that lonely hunk of rock is a domed garden. And standing in that garden, just as lifeless seeming as the rest of it, is a pink Gem.
~~~
Other AU/Non-Canon Works:
For the purpose of organization, this section contains two fics that have since had elements of it debunked by Steven Universe: Future. However, said fics were written to be "canon compliant" at the time of posting... thus, on AO3, they still are listed within my "canon compliant" series.
Shattering Atlas- 4,274 words. Rated T.
A boy can only carry an entire galaxy upon his back for so long before the weight of it all finally becomes too much. (Written about the Corrupted Steven Theory, long before SUF's airing.)
Content warning: Depression, body horror.
The Price of Freedom- 791 words. Rated T.
Even while sightless, even when she only exists as thin fingers of light rapidly spreading outwards from her gem, Rose can sense that something is deeply, dreadfully wrong. Written for Whumptober 2020, Day 1: Waking up restrained.
Bi the Way...- 2,886 words. Rated T. Steven/Connie.
Connie has a question, and also something to say.
(Originally written to be canon compliant after the movie, debunked by Steven and Connie not officially getting together until the end of Steven Universe: Future.)
Errands- 3,034 words. Rated T.
Steven has an endless stream of items on his to-do list, so many that he often forgets to properly take care of himself in between. Sneaking off into the woods on the daily to vent out his repressed emotions is merely one of them.
(Originally written to fit between Snow Day and Little Graduation, but the back half of Steven Universe: Future strongly suggested that Steven did not visit Jasper in between the events of Little Homeschool and Fragments, thus I consider it debunked.)
A Blissful Crossroads- 1,742 words. Rated T. Stevencest.
“No, no, please— Steven, it’s not ‘nothing,’ I’m curious, now.” Tone bursting with genuine warmth, he plants a singular hand on his shoulder, trying to coax him to open up again. “I genuinely want to know.” And stars, is the sheer, uncharacteristic vulnerability glistening within his dear friend’s warm brown irises when next he opens his mouth almost enough to scramble the very code of his core-most being. “You sure about that, Flower Boy?” _ A holiday gift fic inspired by the story "Drift Together," in which Steven and his Gem- Floret- are split at birth and live entirely separate lives before ultimately reuniting in high school.
tether me close and promise you'll linger- 2,139 words. Rated T. Steven/Connie.
“Happy New Year, sweetheart,” she whispers, her breath tickling against his beard. And in response, his brow creases inwards so sharply that it’s all but impossible to ignore the building tension behind his eyes, the stressful specter of a migraine yet to come. “Stars… it’s that time already—?” - A holiday gift fic inspired by characters in the AU comic “Walk the Line.”
~~~
Canon Compliant Works:
This part of the list contains almost everything within my "Brandishing the Star: A Crystal Gem's Guide to the Universe" fic series on AO3. Fics are listed chronologically.
Tipping Point- 1,104 words. Rated G.
Garnet helps remind Rose of what she's fighting for.
New Star- 1,321 words. Rated G.
Organic life is a fragile, fickle thing. This much is true. What's also true is how the death and resurrection of a humble lion was enough to make Rose Quartz re-conceptualize everything.
On the Origin of Hybrids- 1,684 words. Rated G.
The question— incomplete, and yet bursting with long-held curiosity— emerges from thin air while he’s about to tuck Steven into bed in the back of the van one night. In retrospect, no parenting book could’ve ever prepared him for this one.
His Shield- 334 words. Rated G.
Greg attempts to comfort his son during a thunderstorm.
Donut Debrief- 1,578 words. Rated G.
And like a burst of sunshine emerging from between the murky grey clouds, the young boy swings the door open wide, face alight with a level of enthusiasm that before, she didn’t even think was humanly possible on an overcast Monday morning. Two days after their disastrous island adventure, Sadie and Steven talk about regrets, making amends, and discover something they have in common with each other.
Autumn Bliss- 546 words. Rated G. Light Steven/Connie.
Is there any better way to spend a crisp autumn day than playing around in piles of leaves? Written for Connvember, day 1.
Alienation- 1,151 words. Rated G.
“But... I’m human,” he whispers to himself, the words tasting more like a desperate plea for belief on his tongue. “Or at least, part human. Right?” - An awkward interaction with his dad and Connie leads Steven to realize that he's now too Gem to all the humans in his life.
Ramen Soup For the Soul- 263 words. Rated G.
Steven and Connie noisily slurp some soup at the dinner table.
Creative Outlet- 837 words. Rated G.
“Log date, 7 14 9. “Today, the hybrid creature Steven attempted to further secure my loyalty by introducing me to a concept he calls... ‘music.’
Taste of Ordinary- 12,756 words. 2/3 chapters. Rated G. Light Steven/Connie.
"Connie, can we talk?" When a much needed moonlight conversation with his best friend turns into an attempted (and failed) "spring break" from all his responsibilities as a half-Gem, Steven must finally come to terms with the full truth of his heritage and all six thousand years of its consequences. Takes place between The Question and Made of Honor.
Outer Strife- 4,282 words. Rated T.
Connie clenches her fists at her sides, envisioning a world where she still feels the safe, comforting weight of Rose’s sword strapped upon her back. But instead, it’s the Crystal Gems’ darkest, most forlorn hour... and she’s absolutely useless to them. Is there anything she can do to aid them in this struggle, anything at all? (Or: the beach fight in Reunited, but from Connie's POV.)
Content warning: Panic attacks
Ballroom Etiquette- 2,809 words. Rated G.
As much as it pains him to admit it amidst all the boring protocol, Pearl is absolutely right. There’s no room for imperfection at a Homeworld Ball. In which Steven is publicly introduced to the Gems of Homeworld as Pink Diamond, and he experiences the first true stage fright of his life.
Finally Free- 1,653 words. Rated G.
Lapis genuinely doesn’t know how many hours (Days? Months? Years?) have passed when light finally graces her eyes once again.
Vulnerable- 730 words. Rated G.
Three words. Three little words, and the intergalactic conflict he‘d been training his whole childhood to defend against was over. But the hurt... he's not sure the hurt will ever go away.
Fifteen- 1,607 words. Rated G.
Every year, on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, Pearl runs away.
Cycles- 1,216 words. Rated G.
Amidst their danger-fraught mission to retrieve Pyrope and Demantoid's prisms, Pearl and Steven take a much needed break.
Freedom to Dance- 382 words. Rated G.
Stevonnie celebrates the first anniversary of Era 3 with their friends and reflects on how Homeworld has already changed.
Stardust- 618 words. Rated G.
White Diamond is testing out new terms of endearment. But no matter White’s intention with this little nickname, Steven doesn’t want it.
Contact- 16,002 words. 4/4 chapters. Rated T.
The first (and with any luck, only) time it happens, he’s almost 16.
Content warning: Major character injury.
Disconnected- 993 words. Rated T.
“What’s going on—?” he croaks to absolutely no one (weakened, vulnerable, alone, pathetic—), a jolt of fresh panic surging through his entire system. He’s never seen a gem flicker before. He has no idea what this means.
The Shatter Wish- 1,045 words. Rated T.
You’re 16 years and 2 months old (give or take a few days) when you finally realize you want to die. - (Steven's POV, second person)
Content warning: Depression, suicidal ideation.
Second Skin- 9,272 words. 12/12 chapters. Rated T.
Steven can’t help but dread the undefined cocktail of emotions that trigger this newest power... 12 shorts, each delving into Steven’s developing opinions and feelings about his “pink mode” in SUF.
Content warning: Light self harm, panic attacks
The Brother on the Other Side- 2,978 words. Rated T.
Lars has no idea what he was expecting the moment Steven texted him in the middle of the night to ask if he could come over, but being immediately tackled in an intense vice-grip of a hug the second he opened the door probably wasn’t it.
White Noise- 1,766 words. Rated T.
In which Steven opens up to Peridot a little about his anxieties surrounding his recent “pink episodes.” Peridot thinks she can help him determine the root cause of this problem, but Steven— marooned amidst age-old insecurities and his fears of hurting those he loves— still isn’t convinced he wants anyone’s help.
Content warning: Panic attacks
Like Clockwork- 509 words. Rated T.
Connie's got mountains of studying to do. (It's not just an excuse to avoid reminders of old traumas, of course it's not! Everything's fine.)
Fight the Future- 3,604 words. Rated T.
She’s poofed, he repeats to himself like a dying man’s mantra. She’s poofed. She’s stuck in the rubble, but she’s only poofed. She’s fine, and I’m fine, a-and— Above the scars of Steven's wreckage, thunder claps like mighty titans colliding in the heavens. (Or: what happens in the moments after Steven and Jasper's rematch.)
Oceans- 5,358 words. 6/6 chapters. Rated T.
Her fingers clutch onto the folds of his blanket with a protective fervor, but they’re still trembling. Stars, they’re trembling. Wordlessly, he understands. His are too. - A series of shorts detailing what might've happened in the moments after I Am My Monster, told from six different points of view.
Memoir of the Marks Unseen- 6,786 words. Rated T. Light Steven/Connie.
Steven’s messy self-corruption has scarred him in a manner that transcends the mere physical. Battling through suffocating waves of self-loathing and relapse, the path towards healing and acceptance is set to be his most challenging venture yet… but in a unexpected twist of fate, he eventually comes to find a cathartic solace in the tangible marks left behind.
Content warning: Depression, light body horror.
Intake- 6,427 words. 2/2 chapters. Rated T.
Steven fills out an important form.
Content warning: Depression, suicidal ideation.
Fear of Falling Apart- 1,961 words. Rated T.
Maybe it’s a bit selfish to wish for conflict in a time of relative peace, but right now Connie would give anything to face an opponent she could physically fight. A battle she could win. Because the fact of the matter is, no matter how stubbornly she might try, there’s no way she can fight off Steven’s inner demons for him. - In which Connie receives a panicked midnight phone call, and rushes to Beach City with Lion to try and help.
Content warning: Light body horror.
Ticklish- 2,675 words. Rated T. Steven/Connie.
In which Connie’s subconscious, innocent touch helps Steven realize just how nice the sensation of gentle fingertips gliding across the surface of one’s gem can be.
No Escape From the Weather- 5,756 words. Rated T.
Amidst an unusually stormy late summer’s day, Steven finally amasses the courage to confide in his dad about one of his greatest traumas.
Content warning: Panic attacks
Just a Little Something- 1,486 words. Rated T. Steven/Connie.
Steven surprises Connie with a handmade gift. Written for Glow Week 2024, for the prompt "Casual or Surprise."
(Our) Shadows Before the Dawn- 957 words. Rated T. Steven/Connie.
It's their nights that are the most difficult.
Content warning: Panic attacks
Advocate- 5,472 words. Rated T.
There’s more to this story, Lars can feel it brimming in his very bones. He can feel it squirming around in the tangled coils of his guts, a primal, virulent rot that threatens to consume him from the inside out. Something is off with Steven, something is distinctly wrong. And oh, does he hate being right. - When an unexpected visitor tumbles through the magic portal in his hair long after hours, breathless and bright pink, Lars must amass the courage to weather one of the most difficult conversations of his life.
Content warning: Depression, mentioned suicide attempt, panic attacks.
Tides of Renewal- 2,559 words. Rated T.
Now twenty years old and living on the other side of the country, Steven spends his morning relaxing on the beach, musing about his past, and having a chat with his dad.
Nightlight- 1,364 words. Rated T. Steven/Connie.
“So, wait— what you’re saying is that you want me… to glow for you—?” - In which a drowsy, throwaway comment inspires Steven to— fueled by Connie’s implicit trust and encouragement— test the very limits of his self-restraint.
~~~
OC Works:
This subsection is the home for any fics I post in my post-canon OC-centric series, "Echoes of Chalcedony." It follows the story of a young half-Gem named Jean Maverick and their journey towards learning about the Gem side of their heritage.
First Impressions- 11,026 words. 3/4 chapters. Rated T.
A young human-Gem hybrid- a soul yet unknown to the rest of the Crystal Gems- takes their first brave steps towards greeting their heritage firsthand.
~~~
NSFW Works:
Fics in this section will be posted on my NSFW AO3 alt, Astraliies. I personally consider some of them "canon" to my own extended fic universe, but they will not be sorted as official entries in my "Brandishing the Star" series due to rating.
It Takes Two- 2,865 words. Rated M. Steven/Connie.
It’s possible. The timing lines up. What Connie fears is one hundred percent possible. The problem is, a potential pregnancy this early into their relationship was absolutely not in their plans.
Content warning: Contains frank discussion of underage sex. Connie is 17.
knowing, loving, being- 21,450 words. 3/4 chapters. Rated E. Stevencest, Steven/Connie.
A uniquely charged encounter in Rose’s Room forces Steven to contend with matters of attraction and desire he never could have predicted for himself. To what extreme is he willing to journey in fulfilling these burgeoning fantasies? And in what ways will such an experience forever transform him? (One thing’s for sure, though… once Connie’s brought into the loop, the most intimate dynamics of their marriage will never be the same.)
Content warning: Selfcest, explicit sexual content
Love Handles- 7,178 words. Rated E. Steven/Connie.
In which a stray, innocuous comment from Connie pushes Steven to dedicate the bulk of his free time to ‘getting into shape.’ But when new stressors rise to challenge him, he begins to struggle to maintain this leaner, more muscular form for her. Not only that, but is this even the kind of body he desires for himself in the first place?
Content warning: Explicit sexual content, feeding kink
Hi,
any chance you could tell me more about the 2nd years in the atla!au ?
I also just want to say that i just love this au
i have consulted th lore master say thank u @philosophiums <3
2nd years lore coming right up!!
Maki is a nonbender who has decided to study bending arts in order to be able to fight against them. Her ultimate goal is to take out the Zen'in Clan, or at the very least their current leaders.
Yuuta, while only being an airbender - though a very talented one - and not a member of the Gojo Clan, is considered by many to be Gojo's natural successor (what Gojo's role is, exactly, is a spoiler <3).
Inumaki is working diligently to complete all 36 tiers of airbending so that he can become a master and get his arrow tattoos. His mouth tattoos are a visual representation of a vow he has taken, the details of which are spoilers <3
Panda is a very very young spirit who accidentally stumbled out of the Spirit World as a cub and was taken in by a certain spiritual leader at the Northern Air Temple. He has always been a protector spirit™ and is still trying to find a place to call his own and protect (like Hei Bai has his forest).
Also Yuuta and Inumaki have been dating for abouuuuut 5 months when the main trio eventually meets them in the fic!!
Also my own design notes gHGFHJS panda is more or less hei bai meets gorilla mode and i don't have much to say about maki except Call Me but inumaki n yuuta's designs have at least a few things i can talk abt !!
while inumaki is in robes tht have more of a traditional style, i figured tht Yuuta being the more advanced airbender means he knows how to work the more modern flight suits that u see in lok so I have him wearing a variation of one of those underneath his robes
I also tried to make inumaki's clothes Baggier n Longer to *kind of* lean monk while still being fairly well-suited to combat ! echoing his technique in jjk I don't think he's much of a close-range fighter + air isnt a particularly close-range element so he probably doesn't need his clothes to be terribly form-fitting out of concern of a physical Brawl
when he's not using it, Yuuta keeps his glider in a wrap similar to his sword in the show. is there a reason.... :)
#gender-cloud#jjk atla!au#atla!au: lore#lmhs#also . disregarding atla canon so yuuta can keep his hair SUE ME IM NOT SHAVING THEIR HEADS#also also whenever inumaki does get his arrows he'll probably wear his hair like in jjk0 HGGFHDS
Currently working on a future Sonic AU, and wanted to start with Sonic and Shadow’s clone/child.
Nova was the third attempt in Project Atlas: a project to create another ultimate life form using Sonic and Shadow’s dna. With Eggman’s passing, a clone of Dr. Robotnik emerged to finish Project Atlas.
With Sonic and his team retired, it’s up to their children to stop Project Atlas and the new Dr. Robotnik.
ATLA × Kill Bill
Chapter 2: Massacre in Hira'a
Ursa was celebrating her wedding in Hira'a, when an assassination squad - the Deadly Viper-Bats - disrupts the ceremony, massacring everyone in attendance. The Deadly Viper-Bats gaze upon the severely wounded bride, just before Ozai himself approaches.
_
Starring (left to right):
June as Elle Driver
Kya as Vernita Green
Zhao as Budd
Michi as O-Ren Ishii
[Previous]
I had the reference image from the movie in my folder for over two years, I only drew it now though, since at that time my obsession with BNHA took hold
_
...I bet y'all thought I wouldn't continue this AU after over two years. Well... neither did I 💀
I originally didn't know who to put as the role of Ozai's new lover, but I ultimately deemed June as more fitting than any of the other (named) women in the series in Ozai's age group
I was actually tempted to put Zhao in the role of Elle, but since Bill's brother in the movies was already considered "the only man [Bill] has ever loved", I couldn't resist. Yes, Iroh also exists in this AU, and, no, Zhao isn't even Ozai's real brother. This is very intentional.
Drawing that perspective was so perilous, it nearly killed me
atla au except its mostly just my desire for zuko to have pretty star fire-
It starts with ursa, desperate to have a child, per ozai's demands, but repeatedly unable. She prays, she begs, she cries--and ultimately, she's answered. But not by agni. (He refuses to give and make another child of the royal line with the same fire that's brought so much pain and destruction. So he turns to tui and the stars instead and-) ursa's given a moon shower baby, with hair as black as midnight and eyes that shimmer silver in the night.
zuko grows up with liquid moonlight in his veins and fire like distilled starlight comes easy to his chubby child hands--but the first time his mother sees, she smothers them and tells him he can never show his father (cradles his round face in burned and blistered hands and cries). So he never does. Sometimes, when normal fire comes flickering and weak, he wonders if wrong-fire wouldn't be better than weak-fire. (But his mother was insistent, and she's more real than the whispers from the night sky, so it's probably best to listen to her instead.) (What does the moon know, anyway?)
#aka the (sorta) rainbabies au no one asked for#atla#atla zuko#zuko#zuko and yue sibling shenanigans anyone?#I like to think most everything goes the same#except zuko really is kinda not great at firebending#not the way people want him to anyway#his own though? sure#that's a heck of a light show to be on the other side of#that#and I think he'd get an early redemption#he's a star child#a moon child#and he's already lost one mom#I don't think he'd take well to zhao trying to kill tui too#atla au
AU ask! Tell me about the kids relationship with their big sis, Jinx.
Before the twins were born but Sevika was visibly pregnant (with what they thought was just one big ass baby) Jinx had a lot of internal build up of negative feelings and negative thoughts that equate to, they’ve had their time with me, now they’re having “real children” which ultimately led to an emotional meltdown and a screaming match between panicking Jinx and hormonal Sevika.
eventually, when the climate has cooled down and they are once again able to talk to one another, they are able to dispel the thoughts that Jinx had regarding her position in the family now that there was going to be a tiny human.
at this point Jinx starts to cautiously look forward to the arrival of what she thinks is one sibling then BOOM she gets two. (Initially she kind of freaks out but warms to the idea with some coaxing)
no one knew that there were going to be twins so it was a surprise for everybody. Silco showed Jinx her new brother and then learned that there was another one to which Jinx yelled, “holy shit does she have a whole clown car in there?” Sevika was not amused.
after the twins are born Jinx is still a little unsure about them. They’re loud and are these weirdly helpless little blobs that have uncanny (but also totally expected) similarity to the two people who have raised her.
a couple months down the line she’s finally interacting with the twins, she makes two discoveries. Gaia is a very cuddly baby who will grab a hold of someone and Not Let Go which is fine just don’t let him get your hair and Atlas has the most adorable grumpy baby face and these discoveries make her want to learn more about them.
then Sevika has Sif, cognito baby number three and is what Jinx calls a delayed triplet (because she is 11 months younger than the twins).
Jinx is now more excited for Sif now that she has interacted with her twins and decided it was a good experience. What kind of trips her up is that there is an uncanny parallel with her position in the family now being what Vi used to be. She is now the big sister to two younger brothers and littlest sister. She gets a bit emotional about that but resolves to be “better than Vi” (bc at this point Vi and Jinx have pretty much burned their bridge and it will take a long time to rekindle any kind of sisterly bond because of this interaction.)
she does her best to be a good big sister. She teaches her siblings how to defend themselves (so does the rest of the family so they are basically trained assassins by the age of like nine and ten)
Sif ends up taking after Jinx and making weapons. (jinx is very very pleased with that, and there is an added bonus of Sif being naturally gifted in magic)
I wish that Rhys and Fiona had actually been teleported somewhere else for another adventure after Tales. I don't like that the treasure of the vault was a wish that ultimately meant nothing anyway.
Rhys had already been starting to build up Atlas so why did he suddenly need more paperwork, Fiona just gave her wish away to Sasha who wished for a vaultlander that ends up getting destroyed not long after. Why would they even have to vanish for a few minutes to get a wish?
AU where Rhys and Fiona both actually get sent somewhere unknown when they open the treasure chest, and find something strange on the other side and they only discover it's purpose as the story progresses. Or where they gain something like an ability based on the kind of person they are.
AU where we actually get to see more of how they've developed, see them meet new characters as they try to figure out a way to get back home and understand why they were sent to this new place. Where they use the skills they learnt before and advance them as they travel.
AU where Gearbox actually progresses stories instead of ignoring the existence of plot points for years, butchering characters personalities, and actually shows characters grow and develop in a way that feels natural.
I haven't got the spoons for writing anything long, so I'm just throwing my ideas out here in little snippets. This little snippet turned out a bit long, but...
This is super dark. I've tagged all of the dark stuff, and if I've missed a tw, please tell me. I don't think I did. There are no graphic descriptions.
ATLA AU: Aang defeats Ozai. Aang loses everyone.
Aang has just defeated Ozai. He looks out to the horizon, and sees a number of airships crashing down. He mourns the possible loss of life (even though he can see many crews huddling on the tops of the airships, surely there were some who didn't make it) but ultimately, he's at peace with it.
He sees one particular airship go down rough. Well, he thinks. Time to go rescue people.
He secures Ozai to the rock and even though the man is a monster, he promises to come back and that the former Fire Lord will be treated humanely.
There are bodies in the wreck, and he offers some words to Agni on their behalf, because that's who he is, and he remembers that Fire folk need to be guided on their way to the Sun. He remembers the words from a hundred years ago like yesterday, because for him, it was. Well, yesterday and a year.
But when he finds three bodies, huddled close together with a burst steam pipe near them and the room slowly filling with water, Aang finds that he doesn't have any words at all.
He takes them from the wreck and lays them out on the beach. Sokka must have been holding Suki and Toph close, and from the shape of the bent metal sheets in the room, he could guess that Toph might have tried to cushion their fall with Metalbending. But he'll never know for sure.
If they'd only had a Waterbender. The boiling steam could have turned to a cool mist.
Waterbending takes his thoughts to Katara. She or Zuko weren't anywhere to be found. Were they gone, too? If they weren't, how was he going to tell Katara that her brother was dead? And Toph. And Suki.
He sits by the bodies on the beach for a long time. Eventually, some of the surviving soldiers approach him.
He gives them a short speech. He brings Ozai out to them. Ozai is still feeble, and babbling commands to kill the Avatar, but as Aang had hoped, he can't inspire fear or respect without his bending. His soldiers refuse to attack Aang.
A few of the airships can still fly. He orders a crew to fly him to the Fire Nation. He has some kind of inkling that that's where Zuko and Katara might be - he tried meditating to see if he could connect with Katara the same way he did when she was captured in Ba Sing Se, but the grief is still too near. And in any case, ending the war is most important, and to do that, he has to go to the Fire Nation.
Ozai stays on the bridge with him. He thinks its good for the crew to see him, to lose their fear of the man. A voice inside him whispers that it's good for them to see that Aang could do it to them, too.
He quashes it. It's the grief and anger talking. He tries to meditate, to center himself, to let himself feel all of his grief so that he can begin the long journey to overcome it. But the meditation doesn't help, and he can't even cry.
They reach the Caldera.
He finds the Fire Lord sitting on her throne, alternating between laughter and tears and screaming and whispering. Crying for her mother, screaming for Zuko, laughing to her father that she did it, didn't I do good?
The duel is short. The Avatar State allows him to overpower Azula with ease. Her energy is bitter and twisted and wrong, but he untangles the knots and removes her bending. Curiously, Azula doesn't even fight it very much.
The screams and laughter and sounds don't stop. But some sages and ministers and a few guards come in, and he centers himself, meaning to explain to them that the war is over, when one of the sages asks him if he knows any Waterbender healing.
He's happy for a chance to help someone. He tells them that he isn't as good as Katara, but he knows the basics.
Prince Zuko has been asking for Katara, they say. (None of them knew the name of the Waterbender who came with Zuko to challenge his sister.)
Aang's hands are very cold. He tells them to take him to Zuko, immediately, and to bring pure water.
Zuko is lying on a bed. His chest is as crimson as the covers. His breathing is shallow. He keeps rasping out Katara's name until he sees Aang. Then he tries to say something else.
Aang tells him not to speak, and gets to work on his chest, but he doesn't have Katara's skill (why didn't he train more, he asked himself, and even when a fair little voice tries to tell him that he had his hands full with learning three styles of bending simultaneously as well as everything else that had happened) and the wound is severe.
Prince Zuko dies in the early hours of the morning, and Aang stands there with his hands dripping. Blood and water.
He still can't cry.
Then one of the Fire Sages in the room asks him if he knew the Waterbender who came with the Prince.
He asks them where Katara is. They show him.
His fingers are numb, but he cleans the blue necklace as best he can, even though the ribbon is almost burned to nothing.
The wind is picking up.
He asks them what happened. A sage timidly and hurriedly starts explaining. The two rode in on a sky bison, there was a duel, Zuko dove in front of Katara, and...
Wait, he says. Where is Appa? Where is the sky bison?
The beast was slain by Azula, the sage says, and continues his explanation like that was a footnote, until suddenly he can't breathe and the wind is turning into a storm.
As the sage chokes, Aang tells the others to take him to Appa, now. He needs to see.
They had dragged Appa into a stable. There's black on the white of his fur.
He stares until he can't look at Appa anymore, and then he turns around and looks at the quivering sages and ministers instead.
It was once the Fire Sages' duty to serve the Avatar, he says. You will serve me again. And together, we will remake the world.
All of them bow.
They ask him for his commands.
The reply is spoken by a thousand voices:
"Bring me Azula."
In Ba Sing Se, Iroh looks out to the city. Children are playing in the streets. Vendors are serving food at no cost (he might have indulged in a dish or two). Ba Sing Se is free, and he is happy.
And he still can't shake the feeling that something is horribly wrong.
@sockdooe You absolutely do not need to apologize, ever, for "dumping" rants in the tags of my posts. I happen to love reading everything you have to say, and look forward to these "dumps", every time I see your username pop up in my notifications.
People are allowed to write and headcanon whatever they want (Looking at you, "Black Paladin Lance" AUs), but, it's concrete, indisputable canon that the Black Lion and Shiro had the strongest bond of any human Paladin and Lion pair.
Yes, Lance was the first to have a connection with a Lion, and the Red Lion came to Keith's aid of her own volition, just as the Green Lion likewise rushed to protect Pidge. That in no way negates just how much focus was given to building Shiro's bond with Black, and establishing him as the Paladin she chose, because they understood, valued, and trusted one another. Sure, the Black Lion absorbing Shiro into her inner quintessence might very well be a reference to the episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion where Shinji Ikari's body is similarly absorbed by his EVA Unit. Goodness knows there are plenty references to NGE and other anime scattered about. Shiro's Season One/Two design seems to have taken some heavy inspiration from Guts- shock of stress-induced white on a head of black hair, strong, square jaw, prosthetic arm, distinct lateral scar across the bridge of his nose-
-and he was originally intended to marry Roy Focker.
Nevertheless, it speaks volumes that this ancient, sentient force looked at a traumatized, battle-scarred, yet still extraordinarily gentle man with blood on his hands, sins to atone for, and feelings of self-loathing and desperation to prove himself worthy, prove that every fight in the Arena and every life he took to keep himself alive, every precious second of time he was able to steal back from Death's inescapable grip meant something if he can do good with all of the evil that has touched him, permeating the very essence of his being, and decided Him. He's the one I want. To the point of holding onto whatever she could of him after he died.
And, as much as this show tried to undermine that with Keith and the Clone Shiro being able to pilot the Black Lion, and later showing the previous Paladins also being preserved by their Lions' quintessence- inside of Haggar/Honerva's mind, despite the fact that she killed them outside of their Lions, because Season Eight's writing is an absolute convoluted mess- it will never, ever diminish the fact that Shiro is so special, not one, but two magic-powered sentient spacecrafts adopted him as their Person.
(I do wish the Atlas's interior wasn't so dark, dreary, and dull, though. They couldn't have given this poor man a ship with white walls and turquoise accents, or something? It had to be dingy gray and Galaxy Garrison orange?)
Even if we ignore the fans who hyperfocus on Lance and Keith, determined to turn them into the ultimate tragic heroes/victims of the universe/hyper-competent badasses/supremely empathetic Hearts of the Team (sorry, but that title belongs to Hunk. It will always belong to Hunk)/discount Shiros, the treatment of Shiro by the fandom has, since its inception, been dubious, at best.
He's a cheerleader for Keith/Lance. He's an obstacle to Keith/Lance, so we'll pair him off with Allura. No, wait, never mind, he's twenty-five, and therefore, absolutely off limits to every single one of the Paladins, and Allura, as a potential romantic partner, and anyone even slightly okay with one of these ships deserves to be harassed and indiscriminately labeled a "pedophile", including Shiro's voice actor. (We'll completely overlook, of course, that Keith is also a legal adult, and shipping him with any of the younger Paladins should, by those standards, be verboten, as well.) Shiro is the "Token Gay" who we'll cast aside in favor of Keith and/or Lance, but throw him the meagerest scrap of bone in the form of pairing him off with either the (dead) man who canonically ended their relationship on poor terms because he couldn't handle the emotional strain of another one of Shiro's medical scares, or the piece of glorified set dressing with no personality to speak of who Shiro barely interacts with, and whose name is never once spoken onscreen. Wait, no, Shiro's actually not gay enough (because he's not a mincing, flamboyant stereotype?), so we'll complain that we were "queerbaited" over a ship featuring a canonically heterosexual teenage boy that was never, ever going to happen.
And, the fans who do gravitate toward Shiro tend to sexualize him to the extent of discarding- or fetishizing- his trauma to get him naked and railing (in the most Out of Character portrayal imaginable), or being railed by, their character of choice as swiftly as possible.
Disgusting.
I can only hazard a guess that Shiro has been afflicted with so much extensive, irreversible trauma, fanfiction authors who are simply writing for fun with the intention of living vicariously through these characters don't want to have to confront the ugly, less than titillating reality of that trauma, or so much as touch it with a thirty-nine and a half foot pole. So, they choose to pretend it doesn't exist, or gloss over it, in exactly the manner the show, itself, does. This includes his illness, which, if we take Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos at their word, was written into Shiro's character from conception, along with his homosexual identity.
"I think a lot of his backstory was created independently, even from his sexual orientation, ‘cause that was just a part of who he was but it wasn’t necessarily a discovery moment. So the vast majority of the conversations of his backstory were around figuring out what else is there, the illness and those aspects of it. Him being gay was just something that we had always wanted to do with him from early on."
And, in the case of fans who try to turn their favorites into Shiro, which is one of the strangest, most inexplicable phenomena I have ever encountered in all of my years on the internet in fandom spaces- why designate a character as your favorite if you desperately need them to be someone else, instead of accepting them as they are?- they have to be slapping a prosthetic on those characters purely for the cheap angsty aesthetic.
Which is to be expected when people steal distinct traits from another character to apply to their favorite like a patchy, uneven coat of paint layered over top of what was already there. They don't understand why that other character had those traits, to begin with. They, presumably, see Shiro with his scars, his personal history with Sendak, Haggar, and Zarkon, the three most powerful and intimidating villains in the series, the physical and emotional evidence of the experimentation and torture Shiro was subjected to while in captivity, his relationship with the Black Lion, his irreplaceable presence and role on the team as a firm but gentle guiding light, and decide, "That's unique and makes him stand out as someone special and important. My favorite deserves to be special and important, too! So, I'll take what he has and give it to them!" It really is like a kid wanting another kid's favorite toy because their own isn't "good enough", and I can honestly say I've never seen this sort of behavior in any other fandom. If Lance and Keith fans, as they tend to be the prime perpetrators, recognize that Shiro has innate narrative significance and desirable qualities, why not adopt him as their favorite, instead?
It all comes back to the fanbase's rampant ageism, the ages of the fans, themselves (you'd have to be pretty darned young to think a twenty-five year-old is old enough to be a teenager's "dad"), and, I think, the fact that Shiro is a conventionally masculine gay man, rather than a skinny twink, so it isn't as easy to project more effeminate characteristics onto him.
Lance uses skin masks and moisturizes.
Shiro either doesn't sleep, or wakes up inhumanly early to do push-ups.
Characters with more reserved, subdued personalities also tend to be cast aside and written off as "boring" in favor of overtly loud, flashy, mostly comic relief ones. There is nothing wrong with preferring one or the other, and both have their place, especially in stories aimed at child audiences where a bit of levity is necessary after watching characters go through high stakes and intense emotional strain. But, it has always been my opinion that people who overlook the guarded, noble, self-sacrificing leaders who voluntarily bear the weight of the world on their shoulders have poor taste. That sort of frank dismissal demonstrates an unwillingness to peer past the supposedly "uninteresting" surface and see what makes these characters pillars of leadership, virtue, and heroism, in the first place.
Like reaching out to a kid the rest of the world has given up on, and offering him a helping hand.
Like being willing to paint yourself as a bloodthirsty savage and attacking a scared friend to keep him out of a fight where he surely would have lost his life.
Like offering encouragement, guidance, and support to the people in your care, so they come to trust you as a friend, and confidante.
And, never hesitating to protect someone who can't protect themselves.
Takashi Shirogane is beautiful, inside and out.
The "fans" who don't understand or appreciate that, and especially the ones who think this show could have possibly stood to benefit from killing him permanently, have objectively rancid opinions. And, should almost definitely steer clear of trauma survivors, because they fail to understand what Shiro means to us as a representation of the kind of person we all could be if we're willing to never give up on ourselves, and try.
Let him be showered in all of the tender forehead kisses, get to sleep on the comfiest plush mattress, and be surrounded by an army of soft and fluffy plushies. Forever and ever.
Compiled Character List
I had to organize all the main important characters from my many stories so I can keep them straight and remember which characters are in each story LOL 😂 It's getting too crowded in my head! This list mostly includes the characters I wrote with actual names, or other significant figures. This will help me remember details like hair and eye color, personality, role in the plot, etc. Mostly for my own personal reference.
I counted them all, and I literally have 79 individual characters on this list, and that's NOT including all the rest involved in my other stories. How did I create so many?!? No wonder I needed to create a character list like this one... this will definitely help me keep them all straight!
