In a similar vein from my last post, Dempsey and narrative relevancy because holy shit I have lots of thoughts about this. This is mostly about Ultimis Dempsey, but some of it can be applied to Primis, too, probably.

Dempsey is, technically, the only Ultimis character that we formally "see" pre-corruption. We can hear Ult Richtofen before he was zapped by the MPD, but we play as Dempsey in Verruckt. This was probably retconned and the voicelines of the Marines in Verruckt are not likely representative of what Dempsey was like, but... isn't that just sort of insane to think about?

They so could've remastered Verruckt and have Dempsey, Smokey, Gunner, and John Banana actually be characters. We could've had a glimpse into who Dempsey was before being literally tortured and irrevocably changed.

Now, Verruckt and Nacht aren't really relevant to the overarching plot. Their consequences were, but nothing especially important happens with them, narratively speaking. (I love verruckt as a map, it's my favorite WAW map Der Riese can suck it.)

but I really hate to say it, but Dempsey does nothing and is important to nobody. Excepting McCain, but that was for one map and basically a backdrop for his motivations to be at Verruckt to get captured in the first place.

This is most prominent in DE. ZNS and GK both took place in their main character's respective country and dealt with issues specific to them, seen in their Ultimis counterpart. Takeo realizes his betrayal and Nikolai sees what he could become if he chooses to wallow in his grief.

Dempsey just fucking dies. He dies in a 935 base, still frozen by ultimis Richtofen. He's not allowed to have agency or growth. He't not allowed to have his problems taken seriously or explored in any capacity or to have any personal ties. Fucking Dr. Groph got more development in DE than the guy it was actually about.

And this is true of both Dempseys. Primis is jerked around by whoever is in charge at the time, doing what they say regardless of his own personal convictions, often because he feels like he has no choice but to. Ultimis fucks around and spits you in the eye. Bro does not give a shit about anything or anyone. Not in any real sense, anyways. He's american, but does that impact the story at all? Even when he's captured and held in custody by Broken Arrow, his status as an American and former affiliate of Pernell means nothing, it's not even brought up. He's a marine, but he doesn't really exemplify any of it's ideals or practices, other than surface level shit. Any friends or family he mentions are one off lines. They could be canon, but just as easily missed and irrelevant.

I know I've said it before, It's so sad to think about. Poor guy has so little. Probably intentionally so, at least to some degree, like with the deliberate withholding of his first name. Which drives me even more insane. This guy is such a hollow shell that he's denied everything that makes a real, dynamic character. No real connections, no deep motives, no inner conflict, not even a name. He has next to no affect on anything around him.

Everyday I wake up and thank god I'm not Dempsey.

Ultimis! Tank Dempsey and Takeo Masaki Fluff(??) Headcanons

The Japanese Soldier always considered himself more intelligent, much like the German Doctor.

He originally planned to become acquainted with the man, but was turned down and thus distanced himself, becoming more warry of him.

Masaki and Nikolai have a shared hatred of one another.

However, he merely dislikes the blonde American Marine.

So, he began to stick more towards the Marine

Tank however, despises Richtofen, has mutual feelings towards the Russian, and likes the smart soldier from Japan.

So he didn't mind Takeo getting closer to him in a way.

They began to grow a bond in a way, searched one another out for support of any kind.

The pair would sit somewhere away from the other half of the four, but in a distance that kept them in their safe spot.

One would talk, the other would listen, allowing the other man to rant without wanting feedback.

There are times where one seeks advice or a conversation on the things that suck most about the apocalypses.

Like the lack of cooked food or a nice warm shower.

They eventually became decently good friends.

Not the loud type that would put everyone, including themselves, in danger.

But the type that would crack a joke or make a pun, push one another as they chuckled in silence.

On colder nights they would sleep side by side or back to back, to protect the other but also for some warmth and a bit of comfort, knowing there was someone who was actually there and not just four men fighting the undead.

Takeo tried to teach Dempsey how to use a sword.

Tried.

The Marine got bored and went on a rant about how guns are better and easier.

The blonde man tried to learn how to use chop sticks to impress his Japanese friend, granted it was with a couple twigs and attempting to pick up pebbles or leaves off the ground, but he tried nevertheless.

Takeo broke down once.

He was explaining to the blue eyed man how he felt he had dishonored his culture and his country.

How he had felt useless for not being able to stop this rampage of living dead.

Dempsey didn't know what to do in that situation, but he attempted to comfort him with a "hug"

It was awkward, but its the thought that counts... right?

As I tried out Black Ops 1 and 2 zombies for the first time in years, and what I have to say is:

- It's a damn shame how it used to be thousands of players if not on the 6 or even 7 digits, only for it to have dwindled down to less than 500 players in total. Not surprising, but still...

- I still got it! 😄😄 It's amazing how I manage to get around without having to depend on Gobblegums, even after all these years 😆😆

- Mob Of The Dead is still my favorite map ever ☺️☺️☺️

- The fucking space monkeys from Ascension are as rage-inducing as ever! 😡🤬🤬🤬🤬

- It's no less frustrating to see unique wonder weapons fall into hands of the most underserving, aka those with the most downs. 😒😒

- I still don't trust randoms when I actively try to get a Blundergat. Just no.

- Ult!Dempsey, I still love you, but watch your mouth. It gets embarassing sometimes 🤦🏽🤦🏽

- Ult!Nikolai, you're alright. Shouldn't have been so cold. Dude's speaking facts when he shits on pampered Western capitalists.

- As for Ult!Takeo, my opinions haven't changed. I still think he's not as unfunny as people used to say. Still on thin ice, though.

- Yeah, I hate Ult!Richtofen. Ick. Overrated as fuck.

Ad and Richtofen were originally partners working in his lab, Ad as a assistant, so he had known about the others coming but he didn’t meet them till after he started to be experimented on so they’ve known him for the insane bastard

Tank; HATED him, but after a few broken bones and skull fractures they slowly got along

Nikolai; Immediately got along woth him after he gave Nikolai his first vodka as a crew and sees him as a little buddy

Takeo; He could’ve cared less about him before slowly taking him under his wing as a son after Ad opened up

Hope this clears some things up!!
