The Duchess of Cambridge becomes Joint President (with The Duke of Kent) of The Scout Association
The Scout Association helps to support almost half a million people from all backgrounds aged 6-25 gain the skills they need to prepare for their futures — making it the largest co-educational youth movement in the country.
Her Majesty The Queen has been Patron of the Scouts since 1952, and The Duke of Kent has been President of The Scout Association since 1975.
Welcoming The Duchess of Cambridge as Joint President, The Duke of Kent said: “The Scouts’ ethos of dedication, inclusivity, and lending a helping hand wherever one is needed resonates across the generations, and as such I am delighted to welcome The Duchess of Cambridge as Joint President, and to work together to continue that legacy.”
The Duchess becomes the first woman to ever hold the position; The Duchess of Cambridge said:
'I am delighted to be joining The Duke of Kent as Joint President of the Association and look forward to working with Scouts across the country as they strive to make a positive difference to our society.’

Let’s break the internet! #Moot2017
Tumblr media
So here it is folks! The very first Bunnys Blog!!!
I'm sitting at home on the bed watching some TV with the cat curled up next to me thinking "I'm sure I've forgotten to do something" Despite my lists of what to pack, my lists of what to do before I leave, the lists still in my head and the pile of stuff I have on the bedroom floor, I think I may be ready to head to the Moot. I'm anxious, I'm excited and I'm ready for it. I'm also a little scared.
Why the hell am I scared? I'm DJ Bunny!! I can do anything!! LOL
Well that's probably exactly why I'm scared.
4 years ago I flew to Canada as part of a 25 strong IST, not knowing anyone. It was my first ever International Scouting event. I was 38! To say it changed my life is an understatement. It was the most amazing experience ever. I met some really awesome people who I'm now honoured to call my friends.
DJ Bunny was born in the Rainbow Cafe chucking out the cheesy pop/disney/showtunes and partying till 2am most nights with some karoake thrown in for good measure. I came away from there a new person with a better understanding of myself and what I can achieve. And whilst I lost my way a little bit over the last few years, I have embraced the theme of change wholeheartedly and very publicly at the last briefing weekend and am now focused more on Bunny and what I can achieve than ever before.
So why am I scared??
Because I don't know what to expect. There’s 10 times as many UK IST in Iceland as there was in Canada, the small family unit we created there wont be created in Iceland. Yes you all know me... I'm the nutter with the hat and bunny ears.... but can I honestly say I will come away from Iceland knowing everyones names who knows mine? That's a weird feeling. I know that it’s going to be an amazing summer, I know that I will meet some incredible people and all the fears that me and you are all having will be put aside when we get there. I have faith that the Icelandic Team are SO well organised, any issues will be ironed out swiftly... and having seen the weather report today I'm also confident we might get a good deal of sunny weather to enjoy. So do I need to be scared that it wont be like Canada? Not really. It's silly to think that you can recreate an experience.
I know that from visiting New York 5 times, and dating the same guy 3 times! It's never the same.
So come friday when I depart from bristol, I will put on my top hat and ears, throw my necker round my neck and heave my rucksack on to my back before heading to the land of whale blubber and Bjork! Look out World Scout Moot 2017.... the Bunny is coming and he's packing his pop! So get tweeting #Moot2017 and let the world see what we do best! Have an Adventure!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined the 1st Menai Bridge @UKScouting Group at Newborough Beach to explore the beach’s wildlife habitat, and hear more about the importance of the nesting bird colonies on neighbouring Llanddwyn Island.
In April, Anglesey became the first county in the UK to be awarded Plastic Free Communities status by the group, in recognition of its work to reduce the impact of single-use plastic on the environment through its the ‘Plastic Free Anglesey’ campaign.

Come Fly With Me! Come Fly Let’s Fly Away...
So here I am, cruising at 34,000ft, overpriced under poured cheap coffee next to me and a playlist of pop playing in my airpods.  Unless I’m doped up on sleeping tablets I never sleep on planes and despite my 4 ½ hours sleep last night I’m sitting here wishing I’d loaded up a movie on to my laptop! I’m bored already.
Bizarrely I was the most relaxed at the airport as I have ever been this morning. I arrived in plenty of time to check in, which was quick and easy. I wasn’t legging it to the security gate to be one of the first on the plane, I had the time to take a wander through duty free and top up my Jean Paul Gaultier, and even got to queue for an excessive amount of time for an airport priced Starbucks (1 person was serving whilst a girl was stripping and cleaning a shelf, clearly refusing to acknowledge the growing line of people wanting a caffeine fix).
Tumblr media
I saw a few people with neckers walking around the airport which was nice, and it was lovely to see the Panama Contingent getting on the plane with wonderful smiles of excitement. Once on board I safely stashed by bunny ears in the overhead locker, parked my bum in the window seat and tried to get as comfortable as possible on the Ryanair style plastic leather seats.
It would seem that WOWAir is the Icelandic equivalent of easyJet. Everything is charged in either Dollars or Euros, so clearly a strong US presence for the main flights and at €9.99 for a sandwich, I can already sense the Icelandic cost of living! But being this tired I don’t care and need caffeine (I bought a questionably fresh egg mayo and bacon baguette from the Upper Crust man in the terminal).
And now I have a countdown to landing. We’ve been in the air an hour as I write this, with 2 hours and 40mins still to go, then I get to rewind my life 2 hours and temporarily extend my life expectancy for 13 days. The guy in the aisle seat is about 7 foot tall and clearly struggling to wrap his legs successfully around the seat in front of him but has still managed, much to my envy, to sleep. Or at least appears to be asleep. Which could make the need for going for a pee the equivalent of a Bear Grylls Jungle climbing expedition. I am somewhat not flexible enough to achieve this without looking like a total cockwomble in front of 9 rows of passengers. All I’d need to do to stand out more is put on my bright orange soft shell, Bunny hat and shout “I AM THE BUNNY” launching myself “Stage-dive” style across his lap. Which, in the interest of building international Scouting relations, I’m not going to do.
And as for why I couldn’t sleep last night, I have no idea!! I finished my vlog and got it uploaded by about 11:30pm just after watching big brother, faffed on facebook for a bit as the comments came in, and then my brain decided that getting up at 7am was not an issue so why shut down?? At 2:35 I’m trying to find a cold side of the pillow (I’m sure I’m not the only one who turns their pillow over if it gets too warm), placating the cat who has decided to headbutt me for a fuss as it was obvious to him that I’m awake therefore it’s fuss time, and tried everything I knew to fall asleep. I cant even count sheep anymore thanks to Lee Wells and his obsession with the damn animals! I’m just glad they don’t have tails like a fox..
It’s also occurred to me as I sit here with no internet, that I really have no idea where my hostel is! LOL I have an address, a key code for the front door and some screengrabbed instructions on how to get in to my room. But whereabouts in Reykjavik it is, not a Scooby do! So I can’t even sit here and plan a little walking trip this afternoon when I get to the hostel. In fact I think it will be a case of, dump the bag, “de”-Scout to civvies and find a bar. Either that or dig out the earplugs and eye mask and go to bed. But then I’m not quite at the stage in my life when I need an afternoon nap. Not yet anyway.
So there we go. I’m on my way to the Moot. What lies ahead? Who knows. But I do know that personally I will be grabbing EVERY opportunity to experience as much of this Moot as I can. In Canada I met loads of amazing people, but stuck with the same Media crew and/or UK IST for the whole time. This Moot I’m going to be more inclusive. More diverse. And more open to new friendships.
Unless you have a suitcase with wheels, that is.

My new fav tweet: This weekend we're running a hackathon with UKScouting where Scouts get to learn digital #SkillsForLife by building tech projects that address social issues they care about. Have you tried our free resources for the Digital Maker Staged Activity Badge?htt…
