A Pakistani migrant convicted of sexually assaulting a woman has been allowed to remain in Britain after claiming he is gay.
The 53-year-old sex offender had been living in the UK illegally for 11 years before being granted refugee status.
He argued he would face persecution in Pakistan due to his sexuality, in breach of his human rights - a claim which the Home Office threw out over a "lack of evidence".
The unnamed migrant came to Britain in 2006 as a student but overstayed his visa which expired in December that year.
He applied for leave to remain on human rights grounds in 2012, but the Home Office rejected his application.
In May 2017, he was arrested and later convicted for sexually assaulting a woman.
Just one month after his conviction, he claimed asylum, alleging he would face "fear of persecution" in Pakistan if deported.
Despite pleading guilty to the sexual assault, the migrant claimed in his asylum application that he was both innocent and gay.
Then-home secretary Suella Braverman refused him leave to remain, stating there was "no evidence of a substantial relationship being in place".
He appealed the decision, claiming to be in a relationship with a "Mr K" since 2019.
During the appeal hearing, the Home Office lawyer failed to cross-examine him about his homosexuality, even after the judge adjourned the case specifically for this purpose.
First-tier tribunal Judge Anthony Cartin said: "I made clear that if there was no challenge on these matters, I would make a note to this effect and was likely to allow the appeal."
Due to the lack of challenge, the judge allowed the migrant to stay in the UK.
The Home Office has since appealed against Judge Cartin's decision.
An upper tribunal found he erred in law, with Judge Declan O'Callaghan ruling the hearing had been "procedurally unfair" as the Home Office was unable to question the migrant's two witnesses.
These witnesses, the Home Office believed, would not provide convincing arguments that he was gay.
The judge ruled the migrant's sexuality was not properly considered "in the round".
"The only proper course is to set aside the decision in its entirety," said the judge.
A new hearing will take place at a later date.

God this is horrifying

Five-point plan to cut UK immigration raises fears of more NHS staff shortages | Immigration and asylum | The Guardian
Cleverly told MPs on Monday that “migration is far too high and needs to come down … enough is enough”. He added: “Today I can announce that we will go even further than those provisions already in place, with a five-point plan to further curb immigration abuses that will deliver the biggest ever reduction in net migration. “In total, this package, plus our reduction in student dependants, will mean about 300,000 fewer people will come in future years than have come to the UK last year.” Along with raising the salary threshold and scrapping the “shortage occupation list”, Cleverly announced that social care workers would no longer be allowed to bring their dependants when they came to work in the UK. He also said people living in the UK – including British citizens – would now be allowed to sponsor family members to move to the UK only if the person living in the UK earned £38,700, up from £18,600 currently. Finally, the government is asking the Migration Advisory Committee to review the rules for those who have completed undergraduate degrees in the UK. A spokesperson for Downing Street called the package “the biggest clampdown on legal migration ever”. They added: “We believe this is a package which will enable us to significantly reduce numbers whilst achieving economic growth.” It forms one part of a two-part plan to reduce the numbers of people coming into Britain legally and illegally. This week Cleverly is likely to fly to Kigali to sign a new asylum treaty with Rwanda, with ministers ready to bring forward new legislation in an effort to finally kickstart the government’s Rwanda plan.
Families face being split up by UK plan to cut legal migration, lawyers say | Migration | The Guardian
Data suggests this could make it impossible for between 60 and 70% of workers to bring their family into the UK. The crackdown has caused concern among some senior Tory MPs. Alicia Kearns, the chair of the foreign affairs select committee, said on Tuesday she was worried the package as a whole risked dividing families. She told LBC: “It risks being very unconservative”. Madeleine Sumption, the director of the Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford, said: “This is definitely completely different to what any other high income country does.” Under the new rules, someone will be able to bring a family member into the country if they earn £38,700 year. If the partner is already in the UK, both people’s incomes will be taken into account. If someone does not qualify under those rules, they will still be allowed to bring in family members if they have sufficient savings. Under current rules that figure is £62,500, but the government is consulting over whether to increase it.
Lawyers and applicants say, however, that it has led to distress and confusion, with many families already in the process of applying for visas now unsure of what the changes will mean for them. Kelly Robinson, an American PhD student living in Norwich with her partner, Owen Sennitt, had applied for her spousal visa last week, confident Sennitt’s job as a local journalist would be enough to qualify for it. Now she believes she may have to return to the US after eight years living in Britain. “It is a real shock,” she said. “The entire life we have built is being taken away from us overnight.” Nick Gore, a partner at Carter Thomas solicitors, said: “This is devastating for many people that just about meet the existing financial requirements. There is a huge spectrum of people who are affected – some are on minimum wage jobs, others have started their own businesses. This will split families up.”
Thanks to James Cleverly, I may never live in the same country as my kids again | Claire Armitstead | The Guardian
When I mentioned their predicament to a lawyer friend he was dismissive, saying that middle-class families always found a way round these problems. Other friends suggested we remortgage our house to raise the £62,500 capital that was the alternative route to a spousal visa. But it would have to have been in their bank account for a minimum of six months before they even reapplied; this was time their soaring stress levels meant they didn’t have. And anyway, they wanted to pay their own way. The Home Office said any change to the capital threshold would be announced in due course. At the old salary rate, they probably would eventually have worked something out, but at the new one there is no chance. Their relationship will always be based on them both working, and while their combined income would very probably exceed £38,700 a year, neither is going to make that much on their own. My eldest and his partner are now happily settled, so wouldn’t want to move back anyway. The sort of social care work she does is more highly valued in Spain. Meanwhile, my Australian daughter-in-law is in the crazy bind facing citizens of so many of the UK’s former colonies: expected to bend the knee to the monarch of a British state that doesn’t want them. Australia asks the foreign partners of its citizens only to prove their relationship is genuine.

Joe Biden wants the US government to make wider use of artificial intelligence—and to keep commercial AI on a tighter leash. Those are two prominent themes of a sprawling executive order Biden will sign today, which issues dozens of directives for federal agencies to complete within the next year, on topics ranging from national security and immigration to housing and healthcare.
The order places reporting requirements on companies developing powerful AI technology, such as that behind OpenAI's ChatGPT. Biden will use the Defense Production Act, a law that can compel businesses to take actions in the interest of national security, to require the makers of large AI models to report key information to the government, including when they are training a new model and what cybersecurity protections they have.
That will include disclosing results of so-called red teaming exercises, intended to reveal vulnerabilities in AI models, such as those that can be used to evade controls that prevent malicious use cases such as generating malware. The goal is to monitor the potential threats AI technology can pose to national security, public health, and the economy.
Another part of the order requires companies that acquire, develop, or possess large-scale computing clusters, essential to training the most powerful AI systems, to report their activity to the federal government. This rule is intended to help the government understand which entities, including those from nations competing with the US, have strong AI capabilities.
The executive order also directs the Department of Energy to evaluate how AI outputs can contribute to biological or chemical attacks, or cyberattacks on critical infrastructure. The UK government included the possibility of advanced AI enabling biological and chemical attacks in a report last week on potential threats posed by the technology.
White House deputy chief of staff Bruce Reed, who is chair of a newly formed White House AI Council to ensure compliance with the order, calls it “the strongest set of actions any government in the world has ever taken on AI safety, security, and trust.”
Help Wanted
The measures in Biden's executive order aimed at powering up US government AI include the creation of a dedicated job portal hosted at AI.gov to draw more experts and researchers familiar with the technology into government. Another initiative asks for a new training program to produce 500 AI researchers by 2025.
Divyansh Kaushik, an associate director at policy research group the Federation of American Scientists, who helped draft portions of the executive order, says those could be among the most influential pieces. “People often forget that talent is the biggest bottleneck in the federal government,” he says.
Kaushik also welcomes the way Biden’s order demands changes to immigration policy to make it easier for AI talent to come to the US. A plan to allow immigrant workers to renew their visas inside the US, for example, could remove the need for hundreds of thousands of STEM students to travel to their home countries for in-person interviews.
Although the US has a majority of the world’s top AI talent today, only 20 percent of them received undergraduate degrees in the US, Kaushik says, indicating that many are immigrants. He says it’s in the US interest to make it easier for AI experts to come from overseas, to compete against other destinations such as China, Canada, or the UK.
Biden’s new executive order acknowledges that AI projects can be harmful to citizens if not carefully implemented, singling out the potential for discrimination and other unintended effects in housing and healthcare. The order calls for the White House’s Office of Management and Budget to develop guides and tools to help government employees who purchase AI services from private companies make good choices.
Suresh Venkatasubramanian, director of the Center for Technological Responsibility, Reimagination, and Redesign at Brown University, says those rules could be impactful. Within the federal government, procurement is “number one on everyone's agenda because everyone understands that is the way to effect change,” he says. He previously helped the White House assemble an AI Bill of Rights for federal agencies issued by Biden last year.
However, Venkatasubramanian says some of the most critical government use cases for AI in the US will largely go unaffected by the new executive order. Biden’s directives apply to federal agencies, but much AI used in criminal justice and policing is deployed by state and local law enforcement. False positives from AI-powered technology like ShotSpotter gunshot detection and face recognition have led to false arrests, and police departments currently use predictive policing software that doesn’t work as advertised.
To force state agencies to also adopt the standards in the executive order, Venkatasubramanian says federal lawmakers could make compliance a condition of funding for state and local law enforcement agencies.
This is the first executive order of the Biden presidency solely focused on artificial intelligence, and it follows two by former president Trump, in 2019 and 2020. So far, government agencies have a spotty record of complying with them.
The 2019 order focused on investments in AI research and development. A December 2020 executive order and the Advancing American AI Act passed last year require federal agencies to annually disclose an inventory of algorithms in use. But a Stanford Law School study found a pattern of inconsistent compliance, warning of a national AI “capacity gap.” If Biden’s new order, the most ambitious presidential directive on the technology to date, works as intended, it will significantly expand that capacity.

UK Skilled Worker Visa Requirements 2025
As the UK continues to refine its post-Brexit immigration system, the Skilled Worker Visa remains a central pathway for overseas professionals seeking to settle permanently by applying for a UK PR Visa. In 2025, significant updates to the visa’s eligibility criteria, and occupational lists have come into effect.
Let’s look at each of the new updates and requirements related to UK Skilled Worker Visa:
What is the Skilled Worker Visa?
The Skilled Worker Visa allows foreign nationals to take up qualifying jobs in the UK with an approved employer. It replaced the Tier 2 (General) visa in 2020 and has since been updated several times to align with changing economic needs and political priorities.
Tumblr media
Requirements of UK Skilled Worker Visa
The requirements of UK Skilled Worker visa are as follows:
1. Job Offer from a Licensed Sponsor
The most fundamental requirement remains unchanged: applicants must have a confirmed job offer from a UK employer that is licensed by the Home Office to sponsor foreign workers.
The job must meet the skill and salary thresholds outlined in the visa rules. Employers must issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) during their visa application.
2. Updated Salary Thresholds in 2025
One of the biggest changes introduced in 2025 is the increase in salary thresholds, intended to limit low-wage migration and encourage employers to invest in higher wages.
The general minimum salary requirement is now £38,700 per year.  This rise from the previous general threshold of £26,200 is substantial and has already had ripple effects.
3. English Language Requirement
Applicants must prove their English language proficiency at level B1 or above on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). This can be demonstrated by:
Passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved provider
Holding a degree taught in English
Being a national of a majority English-speaking country
4. Financial Requirements
You must show that you can financially support yourself (and any dependents) in the UK. If your employer is not covering your first month of living costs, you’ll need to show:
£1,270 in your bank account for at least 28 days before you apply
£285 for a partner
£315 for one child
£200 for each additional child
5. Visa Fees and Immigration Health Surcharge
There are two main costs associated with the Skilled Worker Visa:
Application Fee:
Up to 3 years: £719 per person
More than 3 years: £1,420 per person
Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS):
Adults: £1,035 per year
Children and students: £776 per year
This surcharge provides access to the UK’s NHS during your stay.
6. Bringing Dependents
UK Skilled Worker Visa holders can bring their partner and children to the UK. Partners must be either married, in a civil partnership, or have lived together for at least two years. Children must be under 18, or over 18 if already in the UK as a dependent. All dependents must meet the financial requirements and pay the same IHS as the main applicant.
7. Pathway to Indefinite Leave to Remain
After five years of continuous lawful residence in the UK under the Skilled Worker route, visa holders can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). This grants permanent residency and eventually eligibility for British citizenship. ILR applicants must:
Meet the updated salary thresholds
Pass the Life in the UK Test
Demonstrate continued English language ability
Recent Controversies and Policy Debates
Recent data revealed that several unexpected professions, including DJs, dog walkers, and homeopaths qualified for Skilled Worker visas, prompting calls for a review of the occupation list. The government has since pledged to tighten enforcement and regularly review the eligibility list.
Additionally, sectors like social care have been hit hard by the changes, particularly as many migrant workers no longer meet the new salary threshold. Critics argue this risks deepening workforce shortages in essential services.
Conclusion
The UK Skilled Worker Visa in 2025 reflects a broader shift toward a more selective and high-skill migration strategy. While opportunities remain plentiful for professionals in tech, engineering, healthcare, and finance, the higher salary thresholds and tighter controls may pose challenges.

How a Study Abroad Consultant Can Help You Choose the Right Country
Choosing the right country for your international education is a life-changing decision. With countless options available, it can be overwhelming to figure out which destination aligns with your academic goals, career aspirations, and financial capabilities. This is where a study abroad consultant becomes invaluable. From personalized guidance to streamlined processes, expert consultants can simplify your entire journey abroad.
Tumblr media
Understanding Your Academic and Career Goals
Every student has unique academic strengths, subject interests, and long-term goals. A professional study abroad consultant evaluates your profile to understand these aspects in-depth. Based on your academic background and desired course of study, the consultant will recommend countries where your chosen program is highly reputed.
For example, if you're inclined towards artificial intelligence, Canada and the USA are excellent choices due to their advanced tech ecosystems. On the other hand, the UK is well-known for its short-duration master’s programs in business and law.
Helping You Match with the Right Universities
Once the right country is identified, the next big step is shortlisting universities. Consultants have a database of globally ranked institutions, and they can filter options that not only match your academic profile but also improve your chances of getting admission.
They assist in comparing tuition fees, scholarship availability, faculty reputation, and student support services—key factors when choosing your future institution. This tailored approach saves time and increases the accuracy of your applications.
Explaining Visa Rules and Work Opportunities by Country
Each country has its own student visa requirements, post-study work opportunities, and pathways to permanent residency. For instance, Canada offers the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), while Australia provides the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485). These details are critical for students planning to work or settle abroad after graduation.
A study abroad consultant ensures you are aware of all visa regulations and career prospects associated with your chosen country. They also help with required documentation, financial proof, and interview preparation, making the visa process smooth and stress-free.
Considering Language, Culture, and Lifestyle Factors
Apart from academics, students must consider factors like language barriers, cultural differences, climate, and lifestyle. A good consultant helps you evaluate how well you'll adapt to a new country. For example, countries like New Zealand and Ireland offer a warm, English-speaking environment, ideal for Indian students seeking a supportive academic culture.
These factors may seem secondary, but they play a big role in your overall experience and well-being while studying abroad.
Personalized Support for Scholarships and Financial Planning
Affordability is a major factor for many Indian students. A study abroad consultant helps you find the best scholarships, bursaries, and grants offered by governments, universities, and private organizations. They also guide you in financial planning, from tuition fees and accommodation to living expenses, ensuring your budget aligns with your preferred destination.

Study Anything After Getting a Visa: The Complete Guide for International Students
Tumblr media
Hello everyone welcome back to this Blog Globexa immigration this is Jitender Grover in this blog we are discussing  Study Anything After Getting a Visa. At Globexa Immigration, we’ve helped hundreds of students turn their international education dreams into reality. As one of the best immigration services in Panipat, we understand that even after receiving a student visa, life can present new opportunities and realizations. One of the most common questions we receive from students is:
“Can I change my course or study something else after getting my visa?”
The good news is: **Yes, you can—**but there are some crucial things to consider before making any decisions.
This complete guide will help you understand the process, rules, and best practices for changing your course or study path after receiving a student visa, whether you’re studying in Canada, Australia, the UK, or the USA.
1. Why Students Change Courses After Getting a Visa
1.1 Discovering a New Passion
Many students choose a course based on parental pressure or lack of exposure to options. But once abroad, they discover new interests they truly connect with—such as digital marketing, design, AI, or psychology.
1.2 The Course Isn’t What You Expected
Sometimes, the course content is very different from what was described in brochures or online. This can cause students to lose motivation or feel overwhelmed.
1.3 Career-Oriented Changes
Students may switch to programs with better job outcomes, industry demand, or post-study work options—for example, from general arts to Canada Study Visa programs in fields like healthcare, IT, or logistics.
1.4 Academic Difficulty or Mental Health
Many students underestimate the difficulty of foreign academic systems. A switch to a different level or more suitable course helps protect their mental health and academic record.
2. Understanding What Your Student Visa Covers
A student visa is issued based on:
A specific institution
A particular course
A certain level of study (diploma, bachelor’s, master’s)
A defined duration
If you change any of these without following the correct procedure, your visa can become invalid.
At Globexa Immigration, our expert visa counselors guide you on what’s legally possible and how to maintain your visa status while making changes.
3. Rules for Changing Courses in Different Countries
3.1 Canada
You must study at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
Changing institutions? You must update your DLI number with IRCC.
Changing program levels (e.g., Master’s to Diploma) might require a new Canada Study Visa.
3.2 Australia
Must remain at original institution for 6 months before changing.
You’ll need a new Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
Downgrading your course level may trigger the need for a new visa.
3.3 United States
You can change your major within the same university.
Switching universities requires a new I-20 form and notification to SEVIS.
Talk to your Designated School Official (DSO) before any change.
3.4 United Kingdom
You can change courses if:
It’s at the same academic level
It doesn’t extend your visa by more than one month
For major changes, you must apply for a new Student Route visa.
4. Changing Courses Within the Same Institution
Changing majors or programs within your current university or college is typically easier. However, you’ll still need:
Academic approval
Possibly new visa documentation
To notify immigration if the course length or type changes significantly
At Globexa Immigration, we help students prepare and submit these documents correctly to avoid delays or legal issues.
5. Switching Institutions: A Bigger Step
Switching to a new institution is a more complicated process and may require:
A new offer letter
A visa extension or reapplication
Approval from your current and new institutions
This is where expert guidance from the Best Visa Services in Haryana can help you avoid visa violations and costly mistakes.
6. Changing the Level of Study
6.1 Upgrading Your Studies
Moving from a diploma to a bachelor’s, or from a bachelor’s to a master’s, is usually allowed—just be prepared to extend your visa and show proof of funding.
6.2 Downgrading Your Studies
Moving from a higher to a lower qualification (e.g., master’s to diploma) is riskier. Immigration may question your academic intent, and you may need to justify the change with strong documentation.
7. How to Change Your Course Legally
Here’s a simplified process we follow at Globexa Immigration for our students:
Academic Consultation – Talk to your course advisor.
Visa Compliance Review – We check your visa conditions and any legal restrictions.
New Admission Process – Apply to your new course or institution.
Get Required Documents – New Letter of Acceptance, CoE, or I-20.
Inform Immigration – Submit changes to the relevant immigration body.
Update or Reapply for Visa – If necessary, we handle your reapplication process from start to finish.
8. Financial Impacts of Switching Courses
Tuition may increase or decrease
You might lose or gain eligibility for scholarships
You may incur costs for visa reapplication
Course changes may affect part-time work permissions
At Globexa Immigration, we provide cost estimates and budget planning as part of our student visa counseling services.
9. Emotional Impact of Switching Courses
Changing your academic path can bring:
Doubts or feelings of failure
Loss of community or friend groups
Academic pressure to catch up
But it can also bring:
A renewed sense of purpose
Stronger career direction
Better academic performance
Remember, changing your mind isn’t failure—it’s maturity.
10. Pro Tips from Globexa Immigration’s Visa Counselors
10.1 Know the Rules
Always check official government websites or consult a licensed visa counselor.
10.2 Don’t Make Rash Decisions
Take time to reflect and discuss your options with family and advisors.

Will this new course help your career, PR goals, or post-study work visa?
10.4 Stay Legal
Never switch institutions or courses without updating your visa documents. One mistake can cost you your future.

India has stopped issuing visas to Canadian citizens amid an escalating row over the killing of a Sikh separatist on Canadian soil.
India said the temporary move was due to "security threats" disrupting work at its missions in Canada.
Tensions flared this week after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said India may have been behind the 18 June killing.
But Mr Trudeau said on Thursday he was not looking to provoke India with the allegation.
India has angrily rejected the allegation, calling it "absurd".
Speaking to reporters in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Mr Trudeau said: "There is no question that India is a country of growing importance and a country we need to continue to work with."
He said Canada was not looking to provoke India or cause problems with the allegation but is unequivocal about the importance of the rule of law and protecting Canadians.
Relations between the countries - key trade and security partners, and US allies - have been strained for months. Analysts say they are now at an all-time low.
India's government swiftly made clear the suspension of visa services also "applies to Canadians in a third country".
"There have been threats made to our high commission [embassy] and consulates in Canada," a foreign affairs ministry spokesman in Delhi said. "This has disrupted their normal functioning. Accordingly [they] are temporarily unable to process visa applications."
He said: "India is looking for parity in rank and diplomatic strength between the diplomatic missions of the two countries. This is being sought because of Canadian diplomatic interference in our internal affairs."
Hours earlier Canada had announced it was reducing its personnel in India, saying some diplomats had received threats on social media.
"In light of the current environment where tensions have heightened, we are taking action to ensure the safety of our diplomats," a statement said.
Canada's visa services remain open in India.
The two countries have historic close ties - and much is at stake.
How India-Canada ties descended into a public feud
Why are some Sikhs calling for a separate state?
Canada has 1.4 million people of Indian origin - more than half of them Sikhs - making up 3.7% of the country's population, according to the 2021 census. India also sends the highest number of international students to Canada - in 2022, they made up 40% of total overseas students at 320,000.
According to Indian government statistics, about 80,000 Canadian tourists visited India in 2021, behind only the US, Bangladesh and UK.
The row burst into the open on Monday after Canada linked India with the murder of separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen who was shot dead in his vehicle by two masked gunmen outside a Sikh temple in British Columbia.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada's intelligence agencies were investigating whether "agents of the government of India" were involved in the killing of Nijjar - who India designated a terrorist in 2020.
India reacted strongly, saying Canada was trying to "shift the focus from Khalistani terrorists and extremists" who had been given shelter there. The Indian government has often reacted sharply to demands by Sikh separatists in Western countries for Khalistan, or a separate Sikh homeland.
On Thursday, Mr Trudeau was pressed by journalists about what evidence there was that suggested India was linked to the murder.
He did not share further details, but said "the decision to share these allegations was not done lightly".
"It was done with the utmost seriousness," Mr Trudeau said, urging Indian officials to cooperate with the investigation into the killing.
A spokesperson for the Indian foreign ministry said Canada has not shared specific information with India on Nijjar's murder.
"We have conveyed this to the Canadian side, made it clear to them that we are willing to look at any specific information that is provided to us," said Arindam Bagchi on Thursday. "But so far we have not received any such specific information."
The Khalistan movement peaked in India in the 1980s with a violent insurgency centred in Sikh-majority Punjab state.
It was quelled by force and has little resonance in India now, but is still popular among some in the Sikh diaspora in countries such as Canada, Australia and the UK.
