i love putting john price in situations

simon had known price for over a decade, had served under him as his lieutenant for a good portion of it, so he was pretty confident in answering yes when asked if he thought he knew the captain well.

he could acknowledge he wasn’t as close as say laswell may have been, but he knew that price’s wife was not common knowledge around the base either.

he’d pieced it together over the years on missions; catching the odd comment shared over coms; the glint of a ring around his neck; the odd teased mention of her when they sat in the rec room after barely scraping through a tough spot, when price needed the company as well as the silence ghost offered before returning to the real world.

it was how simon knew the sergeants were staying when price let slip about her one day. because he doesn’t let anything slip, wouldn’t, especially about her.

“got anyone at home waiting for you, sir?” gaz asked as he sighed impatiently over the coms, hour three of silently waiting and watching had finally gotten to him.

“i do,” price said simply, not offering any further information. ghost could imagine the amusement tugging at his daft facial hair as price refused to continue without prompting and simon smiled under his mask when he heard johnny scoff next to him before chiming in.

“c’mon sir, give us a wee bit more’n that,” he weedled. “when’d ya meet? is she nice?”

john hummed, the sound low and crackly over the radio in their ears. “met when i moved.”

“oh, a real meet-cute type thing, eh?” gaz teased.

john ignored him. “wouldn’t say she’s nice, soap. she’s more than that. ‘nice’ is your aunt’s new wallpaper; you have permission to shoot me point blank if i start calling her nice.”

“what is she then?” ghost piped up. this was the chattiest john had ever been on the subject and he was going to take advantage.

john went silent for long enough that the three men thought that was it, the end to their sharing session and knowing more about their captain outside of work. simon chewed the inside of his cheek.

“she’s devoted,” john whispered finally before his voice firmed. “heads up, team, movement 2 o’clock. anyone got eyes on the target?”

it was months later when she was brought up again, the team thinking. nothing of it until price’s phone pinged in his pocket enough times to pique johnny’s interest as they prepped to leave.

“that the wife, sir?” he asked.

john huffed, didn’t bother checking his phone as he turned and shook his head. “she’s clingy, but she doesn’t bother me when i’m at work.”

“how’d you know?” gaz asked. “could be an emergency.”

“‘n’ how’d you get her to agree tae tha’?” soap followed up quickly, having had issues with his own flings petering out when he was distant and slow to reply.

“been with her long enough now it’s routine,” john said simply. he checked his weapons before heading for the exit. “helo in 5, be air ready.”

the mission had gone to shit, and they were stuck hidden in a building that looked like it was 10 seconds away from collapsing under a brisk wind when ghost finally felt his patience snap.

it was no one’s fault, but being stuck in another country with no back up and a target on their backs for an extra three weeks wasn’t ideal and johnny’s insistence on playing cards at every opportunity to keep his idle hands and mind busy combined with gaz’s tinny whistling had made for the perfect scenario to grate on simon’s patience quicker than anything else ever had.

“tell us about her. ya wife,” simon asked, his gaze slipping across to john, watching him pick at his nails. his cuticles were red and raw from four days of agitated fidgeting since they’d ran out of cigars and cigarettes. every so often simon caught him pat his empty pocket before he’d remember and huff heavily through his nose like a bull.

john closed his eyes at the mention of his wife and sighed. he started his description without protest or hesitance. “shes soft spoken. christ, you’d hardly know she was there half the time, she’s so quiet. but she’s firm. stands her ground no matter what,” he chuckled. “don’t think i’ve ever won an argument against her.”

kyle laughed and ghost closed his own eyes, trying to picture what he thought the captain’s wife might look like. pretty certainly, but was she tall, plump, did she have an endearing gap between her front teeth, did she keep her hair short or long?

“she’s a bit of a homebody,” john admitted bashfully, unaware of simon’s drifting thoughts. “but i can’t say i mind it.”

“not wanting to leave the bedroom much when yer back?” johnny joked, hissing when ghost punched his thigh.

john just smiled placidly, eyes still closed. his eyebrows pulled down as he gushed, “god she’s gorgeous in red. wears it every time i come home.”

“lucky bastard,” gaz huffed.

“yeah.” john nodded and finally opened his eyes. “yeah, lucky.”

“you’ll be back with her soon, cap,” gaz reassured him when he saw price swallow thickly.

“thanks, gaz. now who’s taking first watch tonight? soap?”

john was quiet on the plane ride home, not unusually so, but ghost noticed the difference all the same.

he was pensive perhaps, worried what his wife would say when he finally got home a month later than scheduled, uncontactable the entire time. ghost could understand to a certain degree that john would have more important things on his mind than what his three subordinates were going to do as soon as they stepped foot on home soil, so he didn’t push when john ignored the few threads of conversation thrown his way by their younger sergeants. instead he nodded when john said a quick goodbye as they all parted ways in the airport.

simon could only assume john was the same all the way home in the cab that dropped him outside of his little three bed house.

he didn’t see however how john hesitated at the door to his home that evening. how he gripped the front door keys tightly in his fist, shook as he stared down at his feet instead of letting his eyes drift and catch on the windows, and felt as though he could crack a tooth from how hard he was clenching his teeth.

he finally opened the door when he thought the neighbours might begin to get worried and stepped inside, flicking on the lights as he went.

it wasn’t until he got to the kitchen that he found her.

stood bare foot, silent, eyes wide and pleading, blood seeping - always seeping. would it ever stop? would the blood ever end? - through her white pyjama top, his top that she’d borrowed for the night, and trickling down her bare legs.

her mouth opened and she visibly struggled for breath, but no sound escaped even as her tongue wagged on the floor of her mouth, lapping at the backs of her teeth as all words escaped her.

he swallowed back bile.

“hello, sweetheart,” he choked out. “sorry i’m late.”

the blood pooled at her feet, the panties she wore were seeped a dark purple from the viscus liquid dying the dark blue material and the shirt stuck to her front. john had remembered loving seeing her like this in a morning, had always thought she looked best in as little clothing as possible.

“i know you hate it when work keeps me busy, but it was unexpected. we were caught—“ a high screech, not dissimilar to that of a whistle that only a dog could hear, pierced through his ears and cut his words short. he curled in and covered his ears, but he knew it would do no good, he should’ve known better than to talk about work around her.

not after what had happened last time he got back late after overtime.

tears prickle at his eyes and the sound abruptly stopped. he’d never questioned why it seemed to be only him that could hear her protests, why his neighbours never mentioned a shrill cry every so often from his home. he had always said she was made for him and that had apparently translated literally into the afterlife.

he looked up at her again - it was best not to ignore her he found. it only made her angry.

“it won’t happen again,” he promised wetly. “i did my best to get back as soon as i could, i promise, sweetheart—“ he choked on his words, biting back a sob. she watched unblinkingly, silent except for the wet squelch of her feet on the laminate.

they both knew he wasn’t apologising for being late this time. he got like this sometimes, when her agonised face and mangled body was too much to bear after a long mission and the guilt bore down like a physical presence.

he couldn’t help but think if he’d gotten home even just an hour earlier he might’ve been able to save her, to have kept her company instead of leaving her on the floor alone and cold, maybe he could have caught the bastards that had hurt her while he was still travelling back from deployment after agreeing to hang back and finish his paperwork there and then instead of emailing it across.

he reached a shaking hand forward and blew out a ragged breath when his hand met nothing but frigid air. but when he brought his hand up to his face he could smell the copper tang of his dead wife’s blood on his skin. the stench unwashable, cloying, but if he concentrated hard enough it ever so faintly smelt like the vanilla perfume she used to wear.

“was telling the lads about you, love,” he forced an empty chuckle as he walked around her to the kettle and went through their usual routine. “think they might’ve fallen a little in love, not that i could blame them.”

he ran a hand over his face and gave himself a moment to let the tears fall as his palm hid his eyes. her silence was the worst part of it all, but he could see the glaring red of her in his peripheral when he dropped his hand to the counter.

it wasn’t pretending his wife was still alive if she was right there at his shoulder, was it?

“looks like i’ll need to grab you some more pg tips, sweetheart,” he said and poured the boiling water into two cups, sparing a glance over his shoulder at his wife. “we’re almost out.”

But Mina is my Private Investigator or Detective in the DC universe. Originally she was made as a side character for Sophie to have friends outside the Rogue gallery. But my friend had her own DC oc, India 💖, so I was like okay lemme expand on Mina so she has more of her own personality and storyline than just being a side character. So I started to tailor-make her more for the Arkham series of games instead of Gotham. But again I just mash up stuff like I did with Sophie since it's so easy with comic book lore. I mean... DC does it to themselves just like Marvel lakfjwelkrj But I say that because uhhhhh wait idk if you've played the Arkham series games? I'm so sorry if you have not and seen spoilers every single day on my blog. But like the last game in the series makes it left open-ended Batman died and I'm like 'nah son' he does not die. So basically I do what I want as we all should so we can enjoy our fucking uhhhhhh little blorbos.

BUT the pun on her name is A. Query. Full name: Aemilia Wilhelmina "Mina" Query. Cuz I wanted someone for the Riddler LMAO just for the fucking canon character again. And at first, I toyed with Oh uh Echo and Query are henchpeople The Riddler has used but I didn't want a henchperson oc. But I love henchpeople ocs though! Ngl I read a lot of spicy riddler x reader where the reader is a henchperson, but I didn't want that for my oc but that's because I'm a terrible person and just want all my gorls OP. Uhhh but she's a Private Investigator, licensed, she actually does not work or care for the GCPD and has a chip on her shoulder with them. So she likes to take cases from their departments and solve them before their people. But she's not taking on murder stuff, even though she could, no she's more into solving, which she has solved, a lot of missing persons and then cheating cases. LMAO she's like that fucking cheaters show and will bust people's asses for money. But she's very good at what she does and would probably be an asset if she did work for GCPD but she only really respects Gordon and Barbara there. Instead, she's fine with what she has, she's not ambitious but does like to stick her nose into things just to be knowing. Tying with Sophie she gets away with things someone on the 'side of the law' should not be able to do cuz she'll run to Sophie for protection. And she's not a bribe person I guess also? She's neutral in Gotham or does her best. She picks and chooses her battles.

So with her and the Riddler though for the longest time they never actually met in person. Instead, she's come upon his radio frequency before. After that, they talk and eventually flirt over the radio, phone, text, email, internet whatever, just anything but in person. She's a novelty item to Edward when Batman isn't paying attention to him basically. It's cuz she's solved his puzzles and riddles before so she's not just some little idiot running around Gotham. Still not as smart as him or even worthwhile other than to pass the time! But his attitude of him thinking himself smarter than everyone and being so degrading to her wears on her but instead of being 'ok bye' her ass actually starts a grudge. So she starts to make it a point to be better than him! And like the last straw is when he sets up his little challenges for Batman but it's a total coincidence, it interrupts a case she's been on for months and ruins everything. So her ass goes through the whole trouble of solving a series of riddles and puzzles meant for Batman. She went out of her way to find them all and solve them so she can confront the Riddler finally. Him getting pinged thinking it's Batman gets all excited but when he goes to confront it's Mina. He flips out just "Wtf wtf wtf you cheated! you didn't solve these! Why are you here??" but jokes on him she did it. ANYWAYS IM SORRY ITS SO LONG BUT SHORT STORY INSTEAD OF FIGHTING HIM LIKE SHE INTENDED SHE TAKES ONE LOOK AT HIS FUCKING WET BITCH PATHETIC ASS AND THEY GET IT ON. like tension but not the kind of tension he's used to where he just gets his face smashed in with the Dark Knight instead she uses her mouth on him *wink wonk* it's about the sexual tension babeeyyyyy !!!

so i will admit i dont know, like, a whole lot about the Gotham rouges/crime lords. So imagine anyone not mentioned here is just chillin. maybe in Arkham. Maybe theyre on a murder spree. Who knows? not me

For the League of Assassins: Both Talia and Ra's are alive and they both fucking hate Bruce. About two months Bruce took in and started sheltering Cass, the League figured out he had her and demanded he hand her over. After a back an forth "im not giving her back" "give her back" etc, the League went to mini-war with the Bats. Duke got kidnapped and it sucked. Damian fought his mom and that sucked too but she let him go back to Bruce when she realized he would be crushed by the League. Cass tried to go back to get everyone to stop fighting but Bruce talked her down. It was all very dramatic but basically in the end Talia hates Bruce and disapproves of Damian's chosen path, but still loves him. Idk how the "war" ends so do not ask me.

The Joker is dead! (hooray!) When Duke was 13 and Damian was 14 they got captured by the Joker. Damian broke out and killed him, and then got Duke out. Then they sat on the floor of a warehouse with the corpse of the Joker until Bruce fought off Harley and came crashing in to rescue them.

Harley is just chillin in Arkham. She was with the Joker for significantly less time than in canon (although any time is too much time imo), so she's that much closer to sane. Nobody really wants Harley to roam free, and trying to keep track of her outside Arkham is impossible, so she's stuck there. Harley doesn't mind all that much. Her girlfriend is there half the time, if you don't try to kill them the cooks serve you pretty good food, and she's re-befriended some of her old psychiatrist coworkers.

Duke absolutely LOVES harassing the Riddler. The Riddler is equal parts terrified of and a mortal enemy of Signal. Poor guy thought he was free when Duke moved to Blüdhaven, and then Tim came along. Dude can't catch a break. He's been on the verge of giving up supervillaining for years just because of how fucking annoying Signal, Spoiler, and Spoiler are

KAZUHA had left only a day or two after the vision hunt decree had been lifted. Though he was no longer considered an enemy of the state, he'd told you he'd still felt uncomfortable, that people still trailed their gazes after him, and that he still hid instinctively sometimes from Kujou Sara and her men.

It made sense, of course. And since he'd been helping aboard captain Beidou's ship for so long, she'd gladly offered to let him tag along with her crew for a while longer to help take the edge off things. Kazuha was grateful, and though he promised he'd miss you (and you knew he would), you could tell he was relieved when he boarded the ship one more time.

It had been around four months since he'd left.

Letters had been delivered, written full of everything he'd seen and sometimes delivered with foreign flowers that had reminded him or you or trinkets fashioned from grass or tree bark in his spare time. From the words on the pages, you could tell he was making the most of his journey, and that taking in so many new places was, for him, the best of vacations.

For you, however, it meant loneliness.

You had your friends, who you would meet up with from time to time at Komore Teahouse. You would engage in ridiculous hotpot games with the Kamisatos and Thoma. You would pet Taroumaru's obnoxiously, adorably fluffy pelt. And while these were excellent pastimes and helped get your mind away from Kazuha for a few moments, your thoughts always circled back to him in the end.

So when finally, after three and a half months of waiting, you got a letter saying he was on his way back, you were overjoyed. You told everyone you could think of. Ayaka laughed with you and gave you a bear hug (then quickly coughed and apologized, though you told her she had nothing to worry about). Taroumaru barked happily and wagged his tail, too polite a dog to jump on you. Thoma congratulated you loudly from his seemingly permanent abode of the bathroom, and Ayato smiled sincerely at you, which seemed to be about the most he could do without laughing at Thoma's predicament (poor guy).

And all this led to you now, feet planted firmly on the docks despite your nervous stomach seeming to be in your throat, eyes trained desperately on the horizon for any sign of the Alcor and its fleet. News had come yesterday that it would be arriving shortly, and, being so kind and incredibly connected, Thoma had delivered the news to you.

Finally, after what seemed like days but was most likely just over an hour, something caught your eye. It seemed like just a shadow at first, but it quickly became more visible, and with it the sound of a whistling tune only one person could make. Kazuha sat, as laid-back as ever, in the crow's nest, a blade of grass in hand at his lips. The lookout officially on duty tapped him a few times on the shoulder and pointed at the docks, and Kazuha quickly sat up, eyes darting around to find you.

It wasn't long before he did, and with the Crux coming in so quickly, you could spot the exact moment when he spotted you. Kazuha's entire face lit up into a grin so wide you'd probably only seen it on him once before. His hair whipped about into his face and out into the wind, and he waved with both hands stretched as far as he could, letting go of the blade of grass he had been playing just a moment before. It danced out into the wind, and by the time you couldn't see it anymore, the Alcor had pulled up to the dock, and Beidou waved to you before hoisting the anchor overboard.

Kazuha wasted no time. Almost like a cat, he leapt from his perch and hit the deck of the ship so hard you almost worried if he'd injured himself. You didn't have the time to, however, because as soon as his feet touched the Alcor, Kazuha was running toward you at full speed, swooping you up in his arms and laughing to the point where, if you were able to catch a glimpse of his face while yours was buried in his shirt, you would have noticed tears.

"I missed you," he said, and it wasn't loud. It was almost whispered, so quiet that only the two of you could hear it.

"I missed you, too," you replied, and without another word, Kazuha grabbed your face uncharacteristically roughly and pressed his lips against yours. It felt like he kissed you for almost as long as you'd been waiting for him to come back. Though the world moved along outside, the two of you were in your little bubble, as if the archons had been so merciful as to grant you a little pocket of immortality to enjoy just this once.

Kazuha pulled away after a few moments, cheeks flushed as red as the autumn leaves he adored so much. You felt heat rush into yours as well.

"Do you want to do anything now that you're back? I can help you carry things if you need," you offered, your hand finding its home holding his.

"Let's just go home," Kazuha answered, his own hand squeezing yours in response.

After all this time waiting, you think, you are more than happy to oblige.

ALL RP! TALKING ABOUT THE CHARACTERS, NOT THE CCs!!

I am not ok after Tommy’s latest stream so naturally the first thing to do is make a list of all the worst (or best, depending on your perspective) parts :]

(also spoilers obv for the latest stream and tw for trauma/panicking)

-this is just exile 🙂but worse 🙂 so much worse😊in so many ways 🙂

-confirmed that Tommy still can’t sleep/has nightmares cause of dream (add that to the confirmed nightmares abt wilbur...)

-confirmed blackstone makes Tommy freak out because it brings back a LOT of traumatic memories

-Tommy gets panicky in plains biomes

-STANDING UP! TO HIS ABUSER! GETTING (well...trying to get...) CLOSURE! RECOGNIZING THAT HIS TRAUMA EXISTS!

-really glad they didn’t just decide that trauma n stuff would go away cause dream was gone :]

-‘dream, you ruined my past but I will not let you ruin my future’

-AAAAAAAA! I’m so proud of him!

- “I always wanna make sure I like who I am. And when I’m around dream... I don’t think i like myself. I dont like who I am around him.”

- there were so many freaking powerful lines in this stream, I’m prolly gonna miss a lot but all around incredible acting

- the way tommy was so clearly nervous and panicky throughout the whole prison thing but he was forcing himself to do it, and then when he realized he was trapped just having a breakdown, like full on panic oh my gosh acting skills

-talkibg to Sam 🥺 about how he’d been a good friend 🥺 opening up to him and being serious to let Sam know he appreciated everything

-he turned off the music 😳 fight or flight response to that

- checking to see sams name tag do that he knew he was safe and then the terror when sams name disappeared

- even as he was terrified he was still standing up to dream and not listening to him

-GOOD FOR TOMMY IM PROUD

-(how long will that last-)

- WHO DID THE TNT

- the way dreams demeanor so completely changed after the tnt because now he didn’t need to convince Tommy to stay or keep up his act. he was in control again.

- dream doesn’t want to escape, he wants Tommy.

Maybe escape is next on the list, but now that he has his toy back, trapped with nothing to do but talk to him... dream is gonna be lot happier. He has that bit of power that drives him

-let’s be honest, we didnt really think dream was just gonna waste away forever, did we? Dream always has a backup plan- and even when he doesnt (he used his safety net in the disc finale- bringing people back) he knows which strings to pull so that he’s in power again.

-uhhhhhh yeah none of us have forgotten about that techno favor right? That’s GOTTA come into play soon

- peopke keep talking about the legend of Pandora’s box 😀 and how evils and hope was trapped in there 😄 and the evil escaped 🙂 but hope was trapped forever 🤡

- ok I know it’s controversial but Tommy calling for Phil when he was begging to be let out,,, it could have been in or out of character but wouldn’t it,, wouldn’t it be angsty if it WAS c!tommy calling for someone he associates with safety while in a panicked state,,,

-but! Tommy kept saying things like ‘close the book’ and ‘this is the last chapter’ etc, in contrast to Dream saying ‘our story isn’t finished/our story is never over’

tommys tryna move on, realizing he doesn’t need dream, while dream lives only to be the villain to Tommy’s hero.

THE CHARACTERS ARE SO GREAT YALL

- even after short amounts of time with dream Tommy feels confused and conflicted about dream (similar to just after exile) and says he feels conditioned to be dreams friend (which.. he was, so... 😀)

considering this’ll be up to a week alone with dream...

- add that to the fact that we already know that dream using his ‘nice voice’ and pretending to be Tommy’s friend is triggering for him..

Favorite Anime - Uhhhhhh........ this is kinda lame, but I really don't think I can pick. They're all clustered together, bobbing at the surface like apples. I haven't even seen many yet, but of the ones I have, I just can't pick a favorite, sorry.

Least Favorite Anime - I don't really have one. I mean, there's plenty I don't like, but after about five episodes if I don't like it and it's not vibing, I just drop it and don't interact with it. There's enough toxicity in the fandom on it's own without me adding my own or bathing in it.

Last Anime You Watched - Welcome To Demon School Iruma-kun! Bluebird found this one. She read the manga, and now we're watching it before we go to bed. The character design and animation is really cute, and it's full of found family, love, and friendship. Perfect.

Favorite Anime Movie - Cowboy Bebop. The marketing, and cover, and description ect. ect. for this poor thing suck ass, but it is an amazing movie. The visuals, as to be expected, as stunning. There are so many beautiful shots and moments, all throughout, and there's a piece foreshadowing that's so excellently done that, once you realize it, it's already socked you in the teeth. It's one of those movies that, once you reach the end, you just sit in the silence for a little bit, and absorb it. It sticks with you for days and won't let you forget it. I highly recommend it and even if you haven't seen the corresponding anime, you still won't be lost. It's so good.

Anime You Cried Hardest At - Cowboy Bebop. Jupiter Jazz. Part two. (SPOILERS...obviously) I don't cry, okay? I just don't. There has been only a handful of media that has made me cry, and this is one of them. Gren died, "Do You Have a Comrade?" faded up instead of the usual "See You Space Cowboy", and I just sat there and cried. I didn't sob or make a mess of myself or anything, but I needed a minute or two and I just cried. I think I ended up worrying my sister, actually. Gren was so lonely. He considered the best time in his life to be when he was fighting on a desert planet in a war, and what he wanted most was to go back, to that planet, so that he could relive those memories again, because that was were he had companionship, he had comrades. But he died. Killed by someone he had loved, someone he probably still loved, at least a little, and without any pause or remorse, he was killed by that person. And that's where the episode ends. It was heartbreaking.

Comfort Anime - I don't think I really, have one? Ummmmmm, Haikyu!!, I guess? It leaves you with a good feeling, and it kinda warms your chest. Let's go with that

Shojo or Shonen - Shonen. It has so many flaws, so many, and the disturbing things are so ingrained that you'll never get away from them, and I should be expanding my comfort zone, trying new things; that's one of the great things about anime, there's so much material! But....I like it. I like the fighting, and the battles, and the power of love and the friendship. I like watching them scream out their stupid power names and catch phrases right before they wallop each other into the dirt (I especially like battle shonen, if you couldn't tell). Its fun.

If you could shift into an anime universe, which one would it be? - Where would I live? Geeze. As I stated above, I like shonen. But the thing is...most of those worlds suck, and I would die, so fast. So I'm picking a lesser known slice-of-life for this one, How To Keep a Mummy. (Very cute, very short, friendship! Love! Go watch), it's a world just like ours, except they have a touch of magic. Nothing too dangerous, as long as you're careful, and there's adorable little magical creatures that want to be your family, I would like that.

1. what radio station(s) do you listen to?

Vana’s a Samurai stan. She wishes she wasn’t. But, y’know, Morro Rock it is. Once upon a time when she was an even angrier teen, though, she’d listen to shit just like Ritual FM.

(My music taste is all over the place, and though blues is technically my fav bc i love old music, i never listen to it in 2077. So I switch between Body Heat, the Dirge, Vexelstrom for like 2 songs, and ofc, Morro Rock. But of all stations, there’s at least one song that i HATE so I can never stick to one for a whole ride sknsksjsjs)

3. how did you feel about Johnny that first night in the apartment, and how does it differ from what you feel now after everything?

so i’m gonna cut a read-more here because i decided to just lore dump Vana x Johnny here so uhhhhhh rip also //SPOILERS//

Vana is an extremely, seriously private, guarded person. Before Johnny, Panam, Kerry- Jackie was the only person she’d ever truly let near her, to get to know her. So obviously waking up to someone else living inside her fucking head was one of the worst things that’s ever happened to her. Her past is also something she’s not particularly proud of, so Johnny getting to witness all that is traumatising. Getting Johnny out of her head was priority number one, even if digging the chip out would kill her.

But after getting fucked over by the VBs, and both of them thinking she was gonna die, Johnny takes her to that abandoned hotel in Pacifica- it’s the first time he’s given her even a sliver of kindness, and the first time she’s ever openly expressed her fears to him, even if he could already sense them before. Oaths and promises are something she holds to incredibly high importance, so obviously when Johnny gives her his dog-tags, ‘proof of my promise’, she never, ever lets them go, never takes them off. (she still doesn’t. they keep her grounded. holding them to calm herself has become a reflex, for whatever reason.)

Everything just seemed to slowly change after that. For two people who hate vulnerability, it’s the only thing that helped them actually see each other. As the Relic continues to take over, they both understand each other more, feel each other more- and eventually it becomes hard to discern where Vana ends and Johnny begins. In cliché Johnny x V fashion like yeah duh it goes further,,,, cockwhore!Vana,,,,,, but with that they also start to become extremely possessive and jealous over one another- Johnny immediately on the defensive about whoever comes close to her, Vana selfishly hiding and keeping Johnny’s existence to herself, even if it slows the hunt for a remedy to the chip- to the point of seriously toxic co-dependency. It’s full of volatile ups-and-downs, fights and make-ups, and Vana almost comes to like the fact that she never has to explain nor hide what thoughts and feelings pass through her mind, no matter how dark or vulnerable. She prefers most things to remain unsaid, but values the fact that they both have a clear, transparent understanding of each other regardless.

But there's also... softer moments. When Johnny puts aside his ego for once, he learns to like the quiet that Vana does, brief as it can be sometimes. He'll sort of just... stay around the room, even if just to procrastinate retreating back into her head, because they realise they like each other's silent, wordless company. He'll wake her up from nightmares, hold her neck and kiss her back to sleep, or until the sun comes up, if she can't. It's all tender things they often pretend doesn't even happen, out of pride, I think, but they both know deep down that those are really the best parts.

Comes to a place where she suddenly hits a wall, and realises, I don’t want him to leave.

She’s never the same again after Mikoshi.

5. how do your loved ones (LI, found family, etc) feel about you being a merc? or if you’ve given up the life now that everything’s finished, what was their reaction?

Vana grew up in a rich corp family, and after all the shit she’s endured just to appease her father, don’t think anyone could hate corps more than she does (some details of her past here!!) So when Arasaka kicks her out and Jackie finally convinces her to start merc work, it’s amazing how quickly she slips into the role, almost like she was made for it- an anonymous face within the city, free to roam and drift as she wants, relying on herself and herself only.

Vana works quickly and quietly enough (though not at all with clean hands), relying on stealth and netrunning, so she doesn’t cause too much of a noise that’d have her loved ones (rare as they are) all too concerned. Judy isn’t scared Vana’d be caught in gunfire, because when Vana works, her targets rarely know she’s even there. She’s smart, cunning. Panam appreciates that these skills have helped her out, so she can’t complain. River- who is unfortunately more fond of Vana than she is of him, given that she’s not too comfortable at accepting affection- isn’t too happy about the life she leads, but hey, it’s her skills as a merc and as one of NC’s most adept netrunners that he even stood a chance of finding Randy as quick as he did, so he feels indebted to her for that. Kerry thinks it’s fuckin awesome that she gets to do as she wants and provides for herself, bestieeees

Given she isn’t all that close with many people- keeping her distance and all- the only people who seriously worry about her are folks like Vik, Misty, and Mama Welles, especially the latter two, who knew how much Jackie meant to her, and how easily she cracks under the weight of grief. The only thing, really, that concerns everybody around her, is how insatiable her bloodlust becomes, and how much she'd throw away just to try and quell it.

Johnny’s just in it for the ride. Rather she work for herself than a filthy corp, anyway.

After Mikoshi, losing Johnny, making it to the major leagues, she fuckin... just doesn't care anymore. She hates the big glass house that was practically forced onto her (reminds her too much of her stifling corp childhood), she hates that she has 20 cars that clog up her garage and not just her trusty red Yaiba Kusanagi, hates that folks keep giving her all this shiny golden shit that she doesn't want, like any of it's worth a damn. Since then she's hardly in one place- never at home if she can help it, and either wanders aimlessly around the streets and crashes over at Kerry's to sleep through grief. It isn't the merc life she wants to leave, but major leagues turned out to be a glittering pile of dogshit she wants no part in. She only really stays there because Jackie would've wanted it.

15. which NPC is your bff?

Kerry. Kerry is Vana’s ride or die. No fucking questions asked. Kerry’s the only person (besides Johnny, i guess) as close to her as Jackie was. He’s really the only person that ever gets her to smile, like really, stupidly, goofily smile, and despite being almost complete opposites, they just understand each other so well. Whenever they need something, they're the first person they'll call. Happens so often that just as Vana sifts through her contacts to find his, Kerry's already calling for her first. They're practically joint at the hip.

They both live loud, fast lives, but also know how to make time for silence and introspection, something they both need to stay grounded. Vana doesn't buy into his zen-wellness-yoga crap, but sure, she tries copying a couple moves while he's doing it on a lazy afternoon, before scoffing how this is fuckin' dumb and retreats back to the couch. Also, as much as she hates being reminded of the wealth that came with her corpo upbringing, she loves using up all his expensive products, and tends to klep a bottle of his shampoo when she runs out. Cute how she thinks he doesn't notice.

After what happened in Mikoshi, she practically lives at Kerry's place, just dozing away miserably as he lounges by the pool, or curl up on the couch to mindlessly watch his old Samurai tapes (he doesn't like it much, but if it helps her through whatever shit she's going through, he's not gonna take that away from her). On better days, when she actually pulls herself out of bed, he teaches her to play guitar, slipping in a couple tricks Johnny taught him. Funnily enough, the whole thing helps him find some closure too.

18. what’s your dream cyberware (either something that was shown in lore that wasn’t available in game or mental creation of your own)?

I don’t have access to the tabletop lore stuff rn so i’m gonna pull this out my ass jsjsns

Anything that helps Vana become more deadly at stealth and netrunning. The most eddies she’s ever blown are on increasingly powerful cyberdecks, cooling systems, netrunning gear she can comfortably slip on under a jacket and boots- she likes convenience and functionality, but she needs it to be comfortable, too. She’d fucking kill for anything that lets her scale silently up walls and across ceilings, though- like a spider- and anything that lets her get her hands reeeeal bloody, but quietly. Guess that’s just called a knife, though.

the homestuck epilogue, summarized by me

edited after: I’m leaving this here for my own reference but there’s a decent amount of stuff I got wrong in these. I’ve tried to correct most of it. still please don’t bother with these if, for some reason, you’re still free of this dark knowledge in the post hell 2020 timeline

there’s doubtless parts of both sides (which are actually only one side, big spoilers there) that I’m going to forget so I apologize in advance for that but I read the entire thing very quickly and some parts are more memorable than others. this is also only slightly polished up from when I posted it on discord, which I did in a tremendous hurry. so pardon the grammar

please be wary that I literally CANNOT tag this with everything there are warnings for so if you’re not sure, check the actual epilogue tag list, because literally all of it is mentioned in some capacity.

LET’S START WITH CANDY.

john decides not to go. immediately, things start going strangely well for literally everyone, who all get exactly what he thinks they want (or what SOMEONE thinks they want, more on that later. I think it's still john doing the influencing.) davejadekat hook up. john and roxy get married. etc. gamzee gets “redeemed” by which I mean john rescues him at calliope’s request and he goes around saying he’s good now. but as always there's trouble in paradise and the things that seem to be "good endings" end up being bad. jane becomes president of earth but this leads her to become a fascist dictator who may possibly be responsible for the future genocide of trollkind (this shit is full fascist racism shit. “troll camps” are a thing.). dave and karkat are in love with each other and jade getting in with them has actually just made it harder for them to be honest with one another. gamzee basically serves no purpose except to be annoying and gross. 

at some point literally all the trolls start getting resurrected because of timeline shenanigans where the black hole is spitting out their ghosts onto earth c (which is actually inside of the black hole in paradox space somehow. don’t think too hard about it). rose and kanaya adopt a grub they name vriska to honor her sacrifice and also because it looks like vriska. john and roxy have a kid named harry anderson. jane basically rapes jake (he's drunk and also the lollipop is invovled) and conveniently gets pregnant with a kid they later name tavros. AS TIME GOES ON, karkat breaks up from djk because he's sick of it and then goes on to lead a troll rebellion against jane. jane starts cucking jake with gamzee. roxy and john break up because john is depressed and also because john is way more interested in texting terezi than in his real-life spouse. dirk kills himself for reasons that have more to do witht the construct of the meat timeline than the candy one.

all of this is slightly out of order but I’m trying to be succinct so when things get crazy I can keep the relevant details close together.

QUICK MEAT DETOUR (MEATOUR).

john decides to go. he makes a quick stop to grab the ring of life from aranea, then scoops up the other game over kids, who head off to face caliborn. the masterpiece goes down as you would expect it to with the beta kids getting stuck in the juju. the betas are later released from the juju by vriska but it doesn't actually kill english (dave does with his sword, then gets decapitated), and john gets nailed hard in the chest by caliborn's gold tooth, which begins to poison and kill him. davepeta appears for like two seconds and then vanishes into the black hole. jade's corpse is the only one of the kids that isn't fucking vaporized but it gets sucked into the black hole. we'll come back to this later. john runs into meenah, who steals the life ring and peaces out into the black hole. then he runs into terezi in the remains of paradox space and the two of them fuck. 

IN THE MEANTIME, on earth, karkat mounts an opposition run to jane's presidency, at dave's urging. dave and karkat are explicitly not together but also explicitly dancing around how they both know they love each other; jade keeps trying to start a threesome and both of them are like "UHHHHHH." roxy and calliope are together. jake and dirk have a stupid wrestle rap tv show but it is iterated on over and over again that dirk thinks jake is a useless idiot who he can't treat well and who deserves nothing and whom he needs to babysit and control so cool I guess. dirk goes to talk to rose and it becomes clear both of them are experiencing the same thing with their expansion of consciousness giving them awareness of other timelines and vague control over them (”ascending”) AT WHICH POINT it becomes clear that dirk is actually the narrator+controller of the entire meat timeline. the narration turns orange and dirk’s character voice (or what the epilogue says his character voice is) begins to leak into how it’s written.

BACK TO CANDY FOR A SECOND.

jade's corpse from the meat timeline crashes down into the candy earth c through a ghost black hole portal. nobody knows what the sweet christ is happening, but roxy proposes having another funeral since the kids only see one another at funerals (the last one being dirk’s) and aren't very close. they have the funeral but in the middle of it, jade sits up and has been possessed by the spirit of red calliope, who claims she is protecting this version of the planet and is keeping watch out for a bad actor who could destroy everything.

kid vriska is horrible to kid tavros. john and terezi talk a lot and it's routinely implied that john cares more about her than about roxy, and that john is the only person she talks to. jake eventually walks out on jane with their kid but only after she’s treated him horrendously and continued to cuck him with gamzee. meenah also comes down through a hole in the sky, where she meets karkat and they hook up romantically. dave and jade get married but it’s implied to be a very troubled marriage. kid vriska begins banging harry anderson once they are teens. also once they are teens, ACTUAL (alive) vriska comes crashing down onto the planet from being sucked into the black hole. she and kid vriska have some conversations about terezi, but only after vriska hatefucks gamzee. vriska sends terezi a message. we don't see how this pays off, which makes me think that more is probably coming. 

dave, while trying to help karkat with the troll rebellion, comes upon actual literal barack obama, has a conversation about sexuality with him and how he’s not really into jade (here he calls himself “gay” while in the meat timeline he is very explicit about being bisexual). obama tells him that ascension to one’s ultimate self is impossible for the normal human body to withstand and helps him turn into a robot so he can handle the transformatiin and help save another timeline. 

btw a war has started between jane’s fascist empire and the trolls, led by karkat, who has an eyepatch. john, having patched some things up a bit with roxy, reconciles with his son. this is basically how candy ends.

OK. LET’S GET BACK TO THE MEAT.

now that dirk's control over the narrative is firmly established he actually starts exerting some level of control over people through his narrative voice. he uses this to start making people do things he wants.

anyway jade falls into a coma at some point and when she wakes up, the spirit of red calliope is using her to "transmit" and dirk and red calliope start literally fighting over who gets to write the story. red calliope wins at first, and dirk's narration is reduced down to small font where he passive aggressively swipes at calliope. alive calliope takes one look at possessed jade and runs away almost literally screaming. oh also I forgot calliope and roxy both go by "they" at this point in time and dirk+calliope spar a bit over that as dirk also keeps calling roxy "her." fun times. 

anyway while calliope is running the narrative jake agrees to endorse karkat's presidential run as dirk makes plans involving a rifle and the phrase "jake english, your ass is mine." during the rally where jake is about to endorse karkat, dirk fools calliope into thinking he's trying to shoot jake, but wheels around and hits jade instead with a tranquilizer through a window. this makes red calliope's influence go away and dirk resumes control of the narrative. 

using his regained control of the narrative, dirk presses his thumb down on jake to remind jake how much he loves dirk, how he’s IN LOVE with dirk, and how "to love dirk is to obey him" and jake, obligingly, endorses jane in front of the entire crowd gathered there to watch his speech about karkat. 

dave and karkat, drinking together after jane handily wins the election, hook up though dave basically has to shout dirk out of his head because he wants to do it on his own terms instead of the way dirk keeps writing it, and dirk WILL NOT LET HIM because dirk knows best. eventually dirk leaves him alone but only after dave basically forcibly chases him out (without knowing what he’s really doing, sort of like Aimless Renegade in the comic). john and terezi come back to earth, where john dies and terezi captchalogues his body. dirk (as narrative) and terezi (as herself) spar a bit until he makes an offer to her to come see him about her dead boyfriend. this is the last we see of her. 

dirk then convinces kanaya (using the narrative) that he and rose are in love and he's better for rose than she is and she needs to let them go if she really loves rose. kanaya obligingly does this. dirk leaves kanaya some medicine that will wake jade up and goes to talk to jake, where he sex blackmails jake into lending him a spaceship. jake thinks he's coming along on the trip but dirk assures him this is not the case. jake breaks down literally sobbing and begging to go, dirk kisses him and tells him he'll never let jake break his heart again, and dirk leaves with rose (in a coma which dirk will resolve by putting her into a robot like dave).

jade wakes up and, with memories of red calliope's goals, shouts that dirk has to be stopped, pointing out to various people (namely kanaya) how weird they’ve been acting because he’s been subtly influencing them using the narrative as lowkey mind control. they all make plans to go find dirk though none of them can figure out where the sweet fuck john is (terezi is awol). they ask jake who, sobbing, confirms that dirk took a spaceship, and then go plan to get one of their own and follow him using red calliope's instructions.

also this is impossible to get in anywhere else but roxy is going by “he” now and dirk has a whole paragraph about how suave and manly and cool and masculine he is

WOW THAT WAS HAIRY. THAT IT?

the actual ending of each consists of the following: candyverse davebot shows up on candy earth as red calliope opens a hole presumably back out to the furthest ring (after literally eating caliborn’s body). he and aradia (she was in candy for a while now but did pretty much nothing) are like cool let's go and vault into the hole. meanwhile, meatverse dirk and robot rose draw closer to a new unnamed planet as rose does dirk's laundry. they both know the planet is destined for a new sburb session in the future.

Fun fact: I was the one who translated this part when spoilers came out and I deliberately left out some lines from this part because it didn’t make sense how he would have zero problems whatsoever in sacrificing Historia. I believed he would be against that. I think in the end it was to spare Eren BUT ALSO to finally kill Zeke (see: his grudge). He himself admits that it’s a shitty plan that will put the island at risk for MONTHS.

And so what? If your friend said they’re ready to have their life destroyed, then you say “well okay, if you say so!”. One thing I liked a lot was Eren opposing to this and fighting for Historia’s right to live free. I realize Historia at this point is already pregnant, but Levi’s like “okay let’s kill Zeke. And then the person we have fed him to. And then let’s curse Historia with a 13 years time limit. And then her child.” Uhhhhhh okay.

Not only that! He was willing to sacrifice more lives (including civilians) by fighting Marley again. All because he wants to protect Eren so that the lives he AGREED to sacrificing with Erwin won’t be in vain. And why is that? A promise. And his sense of guilt. So no, you haven’t swayed my mind. I still find it kind of ugly.

So even if he thought about the promise later, it was still all connected. Because apparently that’s all he has left 😂

Anyway. I was asked a question about Levi and ereri. I replied. And that’s that, I don’t owe anyone else a reply on the matter and as i stated in that post (I WROTE: “if you strongly disagree, that’s perfectly fine. I won’t change my opinion with the information we currently have, because this isn’t a gut reaction I spent two seconds on, I actually soul searched (lol) for the reasons as to why I felt so negatively about Levi. He was my fave, and I felt deeply hurt and confused and frustrated, so I thought long and hard about it. I am open to change my mind if anything else comes out of him in the future.”) I am not gonna change my mind if you guys insist in trying to “debunk” small pieces of it. Write a whole meta about it while you debunk every single piece of my post and tag me, if you’re so bothered that I have a different opinion. My problem with Levi isn’t about 1 or 2 points OR in relation to how other characters cope, as someone tried to imply yesterday (and i’m not talking about the first anon i got about the comparison, but the one with reading comprehension problems). It’s about his character as a whole, bc as I, AGAIN, have stated in those posts, my feelings on characters and their analyses are based on their WHOLE, not a single instance (and that’s why it took me so long to be utterly done with his violence).

If something good will come out of Levi again, I’ll be the first to acknowledge it and support it. Until then 🤷‍♀️

Four ships ah man, only four? I’ve got an entire naval fleet and I can only choose four? Okay so i’m gonna stay away from the ones Triss did soooooooo here we go. Samidare/Yuuhi (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer) This was one of my first big OTP’s because These Fucking Losers have uh. Some issues. Literally the moment Yuuhi falls in love with Sami is when she says that she’s not gonna let the bad guys destroy the world because SHE’S gonna be the one to destroy the world. There’s some mutual attraction in the beginning and it’s great to see them grow as people in a way that compliments the other (and also stops them from going into the worst ends of their personalities)   Adora/Catra (She-Ra) Adele’s Rolling in the Deep starts playing in the background. Look. I’m not gonna feel guilty about this ship because it’s a very gay ship that has a lottttttt of tension in it. I like the way they played off each other, keeping the other in balance in the first two episodes. And then after that they just bring out the fucking WORST in the other because there’s just so much history and hurt (some warranted, some not) between them that it’s a big confusing knot of (the way i read it) love and hate and regret and longing and GOD do i live for that. Eliot/Quentin (The magicians) Speaking of regret and longing. Spoilers for season 4 of the magicians. That show fuckingggg betrayed me because it gave me two characters that absolutely adore each other, accept that the other is a flawed human being, but nonetheless one who is deserving of love (even if they don’t see it themselves) and then. Basically stated that it was going to be a thing, canon, endgame, but immediately killed off one of the characters in a way thatthey’re claiming isn’t undoable (and then this season gets into time travel shenanigans in order to undo the death of the straight white boy who is literally everything that is ever criticized about a straight white boy character). Anyways i just gotta remember that they were in a canon poly relationship for fifty years and raised a son together and died happily of old age and i’m just gonna live with that.  Marinette/Adrien/Kagami (Miraculous Ladybug) LOOK, ML IS JUST THAT FUCKING GOOD ON ITS SHIP GAME OKAY??? So- SPOILERS FOR SEASON 3 FINALE There’s this fucking moment where Marinette gets out of a pool filled with ping pong balls and her hair is down and both Kagami and Adrien look over at her really fondly and call???? Her beautiful???????? And then later with the ice cream man of love he says that the three flavors that represent them CAN be mixed but it’d be tricky and require a lot of communication. LOOK OKAY I GET ONE POLY SHIP ON THIS LIST AND THIS ONE KICKS MY ASS. 

Last song “Grrrl like” by Dope Saint Jude! I watched Kipo recently and damnnnnn is the soundtrack good so this song immediately got added to my “songs to get murdered to” playlist. It’s got a low key but extremely energetic feel to it, also bass boosted as fuck so hell yeah. Take two; Death is the road to awe from The Fountain’s soundtrack. More on that.... next!

last movie So when i STARTED this post the last movie i’d seen was The Fountain, but NOW It’s Midsommar which sure is a movie. The Fountain; I actually watched it twice, and once was with Triss themself so. I really like it!!! the visuals are stunning, the soundtrack is amazing (death is the road to awe has been one of my top soundtrack tracks for YEARS before i ever even saw the film) and I really like it as an examination of coming to terms with death and how it intersects with love and loss. It’s a film with a lot of layers (just like Aronofsky’s other films. Or ogres) that’s hard for me to really parse out but the chemistry between the leads is great and just. It’s a good movie!! Midsommar; Oh man what a movie. Out of the two i definitely liked The Fountain more! Midsommar is very pretty with a very fae-esque feel to it’s color palette, and it was interesting that it was a horror-ish film that took place nearly entirely in the light (and had some subtext about how light doesn’t exactly mean things aren’t hidden). Personally it was a hard film for me to deal with just because of my own history with things like cults and manipulative abuse, but hoooo boy. It’s also a film that deals with loss (of self, family, the self that you give to people and don’t get back, etc) and the role death plays in life, but honestly I think Aster’s other recent film Hereditary tackled it a bit better. Also films that did it better in 2019, The lighthouse because holy fuck, that film.

Reading Aside from far too much manga? Right now i’m reading various collections of old love letters, folklore, and ideally starting House of Leaves at some point. RPG books don’t count in my mind, but the books i’ve read RECENTLY have been both Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom series (which is one of my favorite works of fantasy but THAT’S a whole post of its own) and Jeanette Ng’s “Under the pendulum sun” which is a gothic novel dealing with fae and faith.  If we want to talk about the manga i’m seriously reading, it’s gotta be Blue Flag. It’s a highschool love story about how things are confusing and murky and everyone is trying to figure out who they are and how they relate to each other ALSO IT’S QUEER AS FUCKKKKKK
