Dricus Du Plessis wins split decision over Sean Strickland to claim UFC Middleweight title.
That was the most middleweight title fight I think this division has had since Rich Franklin was champion. Do not ask me to expound.
Another coin flip fight to end the night. DDP and the team came in with the plan of pushing Strickland back and taking away his ability to dictate the pace of the fight. While they accomplished half of that, Strickland still managed to land 100 jabs on DDP when they were planted at range or on Du Plessis' entries. Probably would have helped if DDP was attacking the body on a lot of those Strickland retreats as he was often leaning back as he exited. Scored a couple of nice takedowns that did not really lead to anything as he struggled to keep Strickland down. Strickland, for his part, could have done more to punish the often cartoonish bull rushes DDP was pulling as he spun his way forward in an attempt to push Strickland back.
Not sure if anyone is roaring to run that one back but with Strickland apparently being a "star" for the UFC now, it's possible. Especially since 185 has 0 contenders at the moment.

Michael Page eyes Shara Bullet fight at 185 after failed Israel Adesanya callout: ‘I’ll take his place’
Michael Page is willing to bump up to middleweight to face one of the division’s surging up and comers in defense of his friend Israel Adesanya. Shara “Bullet” Magomedov recently competed at UFC 308 this past Saturday where he delivered a bonus-winning double backfist knockout of Armen Petrosyan in the main card opener. After the win, Magomedov called for a fight with the former middleweight…

Dana White Confirms if Conor McGregor's UFC comeback will be happening in June
Dana White has confirmed that Conor McGregor will not be included in UFC 302 which is set for June 29th, 2024 after the Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO's press conference after UFC 297 in Toronto.
Dana White confirms Conor McGregor will not fight on June 29th
Conor McGregor has been adamant that he'd be facing Michael Chandler in the middleweight division to make his return to the octagon after the terrible first-round TKO he suffered in July 2021 during the trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier where he disastrously fractured his left tibia and fibula.
"I'd like to announce the return date for myself", 'McGregor claimed via a video on X. "The greatest comeback of all time will take place in Las Vegas, International Fight Week of June 29. The opponent, Michael Chandler - and the weight, Mr. Chandler, 185 pounds."
The Notorious MMA has been talking about the fight against Chandler for a while and there were some 'insults' back-and-forth between the two fighters on X after the announcement to try and spark some kind of rivalry to hype up the fight, however, it seems it is not happening, at least not in June as they want.
Although the Irishman made his promiset to fight Chandler in June. Dana White stated back on New Year's Eve that McGregor would return in 2024 to the octagon, however, the date had not been set yet.
Now he came out and said it firmly in Toronto. "No" White answered at the press conference when asked if McGregor would be fighting in June and as expected he did not elaborate on the follow-up questions with anything other than "When Conor's (McGregor) ready to fight, you know we'll announce it. That's what we do."
The last time that McGregor had a significant win was against Donald Cerrone who was brutally stung with an Irish high-kick in the first 40 seconds of the fight provoking a tremendous TKO.

UFC - Fight Night, Dariush vs Tsarukyan
December 2nd's edition of UFC Fight Night took place in the Moody Center at Austin, Texas and proved to me that if you miss the prelims, you may end up missing out on some good moments. In this post, I will be reviewing the main card, but I will gloss over some of the prelim fights.
Prelims
Veronica Hardy def. Jamey-Lyn Horth
The card was kicked off by a Women's 125 matchup that resulted in a split decision victory for Veronica Hardy. I missed this fight.
Jared Gooden def. Wellington Turman
Jared Gooden ended up scoring a 2nd round submission. Amazing comeback. I missed this fight as well.
Rodolfo Bellato def. Ihor Potieria
Ihor Potieria was dangerously close to finishing before he gassed out and was finished by Rodolfo Bellato in the 2nd round. I once again missed this fight.
Drakkar Klose def. Joe Solecki
This is when I began to regret tuning out, because this ended in a slam knockout by Drakkar Klose. Fight ended 1 minute and 41 seconds in to the first round.
Cody Brundage def. Zachary Reese
I tuned in when this fight began, and I was a little disappointed I didn't get to see the slam knockout in the last fight, but I was quickly elated when this became the first UFC event to have two slam knockouts. Cody Brundage won the fight by slamming Zachary Reese on the side of his head as he held on to an arm-bar.
Nobody learned from Rose Namajunas that there is risk in holding on to an arm bar while your opponent is standing. It's also odd how both slam knockouts were within 8 seconds of each other, because this fight ended 1 minute and 49 seconds in to the first round.
Miesha Tate def. Julia Avila
Miesha Tate proved once again that she is still a good fight for anyone in the Women's Bantamweight division by achieving a submission victory in the third round.
Main Card
Dustin Stoltzfus def. Punahele Soriano
Dustin Stoltzfus is the weirdest fighter in my eyes, because I was almost certain that he retired after getting knocked out by Abus Magomedov, but he came from out of nowhere and submitted his opponent in the 2nd round.
I'm hoping for a good career resurgence from Stoltzfus, but I am not 100% certain he'll make it far in Middleweight.
Joaquim Silva def. Clay Guida
This was a back and forth fight, with Joaquim Silva edging out a unanimous decision in an action packed 3 round affair.
Clay Guida has cemented his legacy in my eyes, and while he can still keep fighting I think retirement will be weighing in on him soon enough.
Sean Brady def. Kelvin Gasteleum
Honestly, I think 170 is good for Kelvin Gasteleum. Sean Brady beat him by submission in the 3rd round, but I still think that Kelvin can have much better success at 170 than 185.
Deiveson Figureido def. Rob Font
This fight showcased Deiveson's amazing power and how he has only strengthened after he moved up in weight from 125.
Deiveson will soon be entering the Bantamweight rankings, as Rob Font was ranked #8.
Jalin Turner def. Bobby Green
This fight proved that even though I feel like the UFC has the best referees, there is still a lot of work to be done to make the sport safer. Jalin Turner knocked out Bobby Green 2 minutes and 37 seconds in to the first round, but the referee forced Jalin Turner to continue to ground and pound Bobby Green, and had finally stopped the fight at 2 minutes and 49 seconds.
Kerry Hatley should not be allowed to referee any more fights. This is extremely dangerous officiating that should be dealt with accordingly.
Arman Tsarukyan def. Beneil Dariush
I had high hopes from Beneil going in to this fight, and pre-fight shenanigans made me despise Arman on a massive level. The hotel altercation with Bobby Green was extremely disappointing to me when I looked at what Arman was doing during fight week.
Unfortunately for me, Arman ended up knocking out Beneil in the 1st round with a knee and punches. The fight just barely surpassed 1 minute.
Overall, the main event did not disappoint and Arman has proved that he should be one of the next people in line to fight Islam Makhachev for the Lightweight championship.
Overall Rating
8.5/10
I really enjoyed this week's UFC event. Some serious stakes in the main event for a potential title opportunity, the two men in the co-main are always down to fight. The undercard was super entertaining.
UFC fans always eat good.

Israel Adesanya celebrates stunning victory over Alex Perei with an iconic celebration Israel Adesanya tasted victory once again in UFC after knocking out Alex Pereira to win back the middleweight belt in Miami on Saturday night. As the "Last Stylebender" has done many times in the past, he delivered an iconic celebration after delivering the final blows at UFC 287. Pereira, who defeated Adesanya in November to strip him of the 185-pound belt, used a right knee to the face that backed his opponent into the cage. But he wasn’t prepared for Adesanya’s two quick right hooks that had him stumble down to the canvas. A right hammer fist from Adesanya saw the referee quickly get in between the fighters, and that was it: Adesanya was champion once more. As the referee checked to make sure Pereira was OK, Adesanya stepped back and pulled invisible arrows from his back and "shot them" at Pereira before letting out a scream in celebration. "I hope every one of you behind the screen or in this arena can feel this level of happiness just one time in your life," Adesanya said in his post-fight interview. "But guess what, you’ll never feel this level of happiness if you don’t go for something." Adesanya moved to a career 24-2 in UFC, while Pereira is now 7-2. Adesanya has been in this position before, but never against Pereira, who beat him in kickboxing twice prior to the November win that earned him the title. With this victory, Adesanya’s happiness was on clear display. "They say revenge is sweet," he added. "And if you know me, I’ve got a sweet tooth." Adesanya quickly became a main ticket-worthy fighter after breaking into UFC in 2018. He showed confidence and had the record to back it up, while his infectious personality made him a favorite among fans. Now he’s back on top of his weight division. But could there be a third round of this budding rivalry between Adesanya and Pereira down the road?
