College Advising News (Fall 2018, Issue 1)
Throughout the academic year, you will receive a biweekly email newsletter on behalf of your college advisers. This newsletter is designed to inform you of important information, deadlines, and opportunities to promote your success at UCSC. _______________________________________________
In This Issue
• Welcome new and continuing students! • Fall quarter enrollment reminders & deadlines • Linking the academic calendar to Google Calendar • Waitlist information- attend waitlisted classes during week • Peer Academic Success Coaches ________________________________________________
Welcome new and continuing students!
A warm welcome to our new UCSC students, as well as our continuing banana slugs. We hope you've had a good summer and are feeling refreshed for the academic year. A few reminders for the start of the new academic year: • Update your address, phone, and emergency contact info on the MyUCSC Student Center. • Verify and review your class schedule via your MyUCSC Student Center page. Double check your enrollment, confirm your grading options, and check for any changes in time or locations of your classes. • Returning students- get your ID sticker validation. Check with your college advising office about distribution schedules.
Fall enrollment reminders & deadlines
A reminder that the deadline to make changes to your class schedule via your MyUCSC Student Center is Wednesday, October 17. This includes add, drop, swap, and editing the details of your class schedule, including your grading option. Please note that after October 5, a permission number is required to add classes. Permission numbers are given out at the discretion of the instructor/department, and it's important to attend desired classes during week 1 and communicate early with instructors about joining a class. Wednesday, October 17 is also the deadline to apply to be an approved, official part-time student. Details about the part-time program, including eligibility criteria and fees can be found here. For a full list of academic deadlines, refer to the 2018-19 Academic Calendar.
Linking the academic calendar to Google Calendar
Academic advisers encourage you to use google calendar to help stay organized during the academic year. All UCSC students have access to Google Calendar (as well as many other Google services) through their UCSC email account. You can link UCSC's official Academic Calendar to Google Calendar- that way you stay up to date on all enrollment-related deadlines.
Waitlist information- attend waitlisted classes during week 1
If you are on the waitlist for a class, plan on attending your waitlisted classes during week 1. Professors often prioritize students who are waitlisted and attend class the first week, and this also ensures that you keep up to date with class information and assignments should you get in the class. Consult the FAQ for Waitlists for more information.
Peer Academic Success Coaches
Looking to make the most of your time at UCSC? Consider connecting with a peer academic success coach. Peer academic success coaches offer support and guidance to their fellow students. Peer coaches are trained to help you adjust to academic life at UCSC, navigate campus resources, set goals, explore majors, and manage your time effectively. Take advantage of this great (and free!) opportunity. To request to work with a peer coach, please fill out the online form, or email  [email protected] ____ This newsletter is prepared by the Office of Campus Advising Coordination on behalf of College Advising.

Welcome new and continuing students!
A warm welcome to new UCSC students, as well as our continuing banana slugs! We hope you've had a good summer (given the circumstances) and are feeling refreshed for the academic year. A few reminders for the start of fall quarter: • Update your address, phone, and emergency contact info on the MyUCSC Student Center.
• Verify and review your class schedule via your MyUCSC Student Center page. Double check your enrollment, confirm your grading options, and check for any changes in class details.
Remote Learning Resources- Keep Learning
Be sure to check out UCSC's Keep Learning website to review the many resources and services that are available to ensure successful remote learning. The website includes a section on tips and strategies for learning in a remote setting. Keep checking the Keep Learning site throughout the quarter, as it is updated with new information and resources as they become available.
Fall enrollment reminders & deadlines
A reminder that the deadline to make changes to your class schedule via your MyUCSC Student Center is Wednesday, October 21. This includes adding, dropping, or swapping classes and editing the details of your class schedule.
Please note that starting October 10, a permission number is required to add classes. Permission numbers are given out at the discretion of the instructor/department, and it's important to attend desired classes during the first week of instruction  and communicate early with instructors about joining a class. Students should attend any waitlisted classes during the first week of instruction, and communicate with the instructor about their enrollment status. For questions about enrollment and waitlist, check out the Registrar's FAQ's. Wednesday, October 21 is also the deadline to apply to be an official part-time student. Details about the part-time program, including eligibility criteria and fees can be found here. For a full list of academic deadlines, refer to the 2020-21 Academic Calendar.

Linking the academic calendar to Google Calendar
One of the best strategies for staying on top of important academic dates and deadlines is to link your google calendar to UCSC's academic calendar. All UCSC students have access to Google Calendar (as well as many other Google services) through their UCSC email account. You can link UCSC's official Academic Calendar to Google Calendar- that way you stay up to date on all enrollment-related deadlines. You can also refer to the web-based campus' Academic and Administrative Calendar. ____ This newsletter is prepared by the Office of Campus Advising Coordination on behalf of College Advising.
