Zegras shows off his buttery smooth hands and innate ability to draw EVERYONE to him. 1v3's a board battle, gets the puck out by tucking it behind his left leg! Thoughts and explanation under the cut.

HEY HI HELLO. I'm here to explain why this little play was soooo cool. to ME. Here is the whole sequence (as seen in alt text):

Zegras kicks the puck to his own stick to protect it from Arvidsson (#33) on his right, pulls the puck away from Danault's (#24) stick on his left. Then, as Doughty (#8) goes in to dig for the puck, Zegras pivots and pulls the puck back between his own legs, then backwards and over his left leg, the one closest to the boards. The puck skims along the boards and out to Ryan Strome (#16), who barely had to engage in the board battle at ALL because it was over so fast thanks to Zegras.

Some thoughts:

Beyond his highlight reel goals, I am fascinated by TZ's ability to move the puck and to make interesting, impossible passes. Everyone knows he has soft hands. But I think it shows up the best when he's trapped in tight spaces like this - a place where his puck control can translate into puck protection, where his hands can really shine.

Showed this to a friend and they made such a great point about it: these kind of board battles can simply last forever, but he just. ended it. it's such a nothing play that it wasn't even caught by the casters, no one thought anything of it. he made it look SO easy. god. GOD!!!!!!

This sort of thing will never appear in a highlight reel, but they're what make him a joy to watch, what makes him so irreplaceable on this team. He brings such creativity and dynamism and SKILL to a team that sorely needs it.

Call it delusional I DONT CARE...! I think this was a glimpse of what his hands could do in the future. He could be truly dangerous if he was more willing to go digging in the dirty areas, if he put his mind to, say, learning how to be extremely fucking slippery along the boards just like this. I can't wait to see more of it.

The thing is, there's not a lot of blogs here that are run by Z fans, majority just post and repost gifs and pics of her. While there's a lot of Tom focused blogs you can actually send asks and have discussions. And "TZ" blogs that are claiming to be fans of them both in reality also Tom's fans. Anon mentioned that everyone were focused on Tom during his R+J run. That is true, as well the fact that Z was not in the same focus when she had her dune and challengers tours, a lot of those blogs only paid attention to her when Tom was mentioned. I just find it sad that she is always sidelined in favor of her bf by people who say that they are her fans. Why lie?

Tumblr, at its core, is a reblogging site. It's all about sharing. That's just the nature of the app.🤷🏾‍♀️

It's actually a little more rare (I've found) that accounts answer asks, especially these days. I think some Anons have unfortunately abused the Anon Ask feature, and some blogs just don't feel that it's even worth it anymore. 😩🤷🏾‍♀️

I myself have even toyed with the idea of just getting rid of anonymous asks on my blog just altogether, because some really do abuse the feature and use to it to troll, or send in hate, backslash, or anti-ism. After a while, you just get tired. 😔 So I actually don't blame some for turning off anonymous asks or deciding to not even bother at all with asks period on their blogs because SOME fans in SOME fandoms can be a bit much. 👀😵‍💫

Really? 🥴 I actually feel like it's the opposite. I've been saying on here for a while now that it's very hard for me to find Tom-solo blogs that are dedicated to just him, and are not tied back to his relationship with Zendaya, or focused mainly on Tomdaya content.

Whereas, I feel like it's a bit easier for me to find blogs of other actors that are mostly just dedicated to them only, and not necessarily on shipping his relationship with his gf. I even see way more solo Zendaya blogs on here dedicated just to her than I see if Tom only blogs. But maybe that's just me. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I don't mind who blogs are "primarily" a fan of, just as long as they aren't Antis (or throwing shade at either one of them in a mean way). After all, many fans probably found the Tomdaya fandom from various different avenues. There are plenty of blogs to follow on Tumblr and have on your dash. So that way, if one isn't giving you the content, "discussion", or "excitement" that you're looking for, there are others on your dash that you follow.

Also, keep in mind that some fans might just be a fan of the Tomdaya relationship, but aren't necessarily huge fans of them separately. 🤷🏾‍♀️

All I'll say is that I know that SOME Tomdaya bloggers may have refrained from posting a lot of content during the Dune 2 and Challengers press tour due to fear of Timdaya shippers, and anyone-but-Tom shippers of Zendaya with her male costars. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Some just don't want that headache. 😩 And we all know how much craziness went on with Z and the threesome scene with her two male costars in Challengers. 👀 Some just don't want that stuff in their inbox. So they don't post much about it.

Do you follow @tomdayaland on Tumblr? Because she tends to post a LOT of content that not only pertains to Tomdaya the couple, but also to Tom and Zendaya separately. She's usually good at posting up-to-date info on anything Tom or Z-related. 😊

"Jamie's birthday is coming up and it's the big 2-1, milestone. He thinks Trevor may have forgotten but no way does that happen. Trevor's just been sneaky planning a surprise."

Sorry this took me so long to get around to! I hope you don't mind that I took a few liberties with this prompt--namely, it's a college AU and a wlw AU.

Happy fucking birthday.

Jamie knew having her twenty-first birthday the day the playoffs started would mean a low key celebration. Fro-yo with the team instead of the customary trip to Spencer’s for a birthday shot.

There were other traditions too, but Jamie wasn’t supposed to know about them. Last year, after Trevor’s twenty-first, Trevor had snuck into her room after “dining hall meatloaf quality sex” (a direct quote) to snuggle Jamie, complain about the guy, and give Jamie a sneak peek into the other birthday traditions.

A sash was mandatory, as was birthday hat. Jamie wasn’t mad to be missing those.

But she was maybe feeling mad that the team seemed to have forgotten about her birthday entirely.

Sure, they all wanted to get focused and get to bed early. But like—not one gif in the team chat? Not one Instagram story? No messages except from her immediate family?

She might mention it after the game tomorrow. If they win, if they go out after, maybe she’ll buy herself a birthday treat.

For now, she doesn’t have the energy to do anything but finish her econ reading, do a halfhearted job on the quiz, and put on an episode of Avatar. It’s not late, but if there were going to be team plans, someone would have texted by now. She pulls the covers to her little dorm bed up under her chin and falls asleep to the sound of Zuko’s raspy voice.

A knock at the door wakes her. Netflix is still playing, so she hasn’t been asleep that long.

“Hello?” she calls.

Mason never knocks, since it’s her room too.

“Jamie?” Trevor says, poking her head in. “You asleep?”

“No, not really,” Jamie says.

Trevor invites herself in, flips on Jamie’s bedside lamp and turns out the awful overhead light.

“Have a good day?” Trevor asks, scooting closer.

Jamie swore she’d deal with the birthday stuff later, but her eyes won’t listen. She can feel them welling with tears, and she looks up at the ceiling so they won’t fall.

“Oh god Jamie are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine,” she manages. She stops there for fear that her voice will break.

“You’re not sick? Hurt?” Trevor hops on the bed and tilts Jamie’s chin towards her.

“I’m fine, really,” Jamie says. She wrenches her face away and wipes at her eyes. “I just thought—I know it’s the playoffs, but everyone forgot about my birthday.”

“What? Jamie, no, no one forgot, they all wanted—I just asked them to—fuck, I’m so stupid. Here.” She hands Jamie a bag from Chipper’s, their local fancy ice cream shop. Earlier in the year, Jamie and Trevor went there after a social and Trevor teased her for ordering chocolate.

“It’s a classic,” Jamie said.

“It’s basic,” Trevor said, but after she tried a bite, she conceded that Chipper’s did have especially delicious chocolate ice cream.

Tonight, inside the bag, is one of their fancy small-batch alcoholic ice creams. Chocolate liqueur, reads the label, and Jamie remembers this flavor was their February special. Trevor must have bought it then and saved it until now.

“For me?” Jamie asks.

“Well—if you want. Or we can share it. Or we can call Mason and the rest of the team up here so you know they’re not all terrible friends—”

Just then, Jamie’s phone pings with a couple of notifications. People are tagging her on their Instagram stories, and there’s a couple of messages in the group chat, too. Trevor must have, like, coordinated this whole thing, let people know when the surprise was happening.

“No, that’s—that’s fine. It can be just us.”

“I should have planned this better. It’s just—I wanted to do this for you.”

“You have spoons? Come on, this ice cream won’t eat itself.”

It’s still the night before playoffs, and they’re using weak plastic spoons, so they don’t have more than a few bites each. Jamie insists on plenty of water to wash it down.

And if she spends maybe a little too long looking at a smear of chocolate on Trevor’s lips, well.

That’s between her and the ice cream.

okay anon if you're the same one that asked about PLD . we gotta work on your tone alksjlkdfkl I'm not here to police you buuuuut . lord i do think a less forgiving person would just delete some of these asks.. tbh I am hardly the ducks blog on this website to be asking, but i will give my 2 cents for what its worth!!!

i support him advocating for his own future and i dont rly care that some executives had their feelings hurt, we're a pro draft dodging household here. didn't like the media campaign when the trade was announced (bit contradictory to say you were "protecting him" by keeping the trade quiet and then uhhh go on your regional broadcast to blast him for not wanting to play on your team + invite the ire of the entire fanbase and broader hockey community but okayyy) and i think thats prob where a lot of the negative perception comes from. and to stir the pot...i'd say part of it also comes from the idea that he 'broke up' the tz+jd pairing; and people pitting him and tz against each other as enemies because of it ... this sentiment is uh. idk how to say this politely but we do Not live in the same reality if u feel this way alksjdakljd

anyway. his Deal, I think, is that he's just a kid. just some guy. not that complicated. i did some listening to podcasts/interviews hes been on while it was all going down and he seems. normal. driven, well-spoken, can get silly with his friends. wants to play in the nhl. average hockey player stuff.

less seriously,, part of me did want him to lean into the villain naratives. and i also love pathetic losers LMAO so like his comments at the frozen four were funny as hell and even FUNNIER is them losing . plus he has the look for it !! its the eyebrows. but the story is a lot more boring. like, the articles linked in my gifset; reading that he was shy going into college, reading that he doesn't want to be the villain </3 man. these guys are just KIDS. I'm genuinely rooting for him to succeed, as i am with most players!

and as for your other stuff, Gauthier debuted in the last ducks game of the season!! He scored his first point, too <3 it was sweet seeing him celebrate with his family after the game. as for next season, we got three paths now that he's signed his ELC: either he spends the full season in the NHL playing 82 games, they put him on the load management thing they did with Leo last season, or he spends time with the Gulls in the AHL. Personally, I don't think he'll start in the AHL - maybe they send him down if the NHL proves too hard and they aren't willing to let him play through it, but unlikely. speculation about the load management plan coming from all sides, but no confirmation from the ducks camp afaik. i hope he plays the full 82 games!! ducks are looking to be competitive next year, so fingers crossed we see them stay healthy and give the league a challenge !! <3
