Generally accepted as the second day of the week, the origins of Tuesday are found within the Julian Calendar. Mars’s day can still be found in Roman languages such as French; mardi.

The Germanic interpretation of this day is named after the god Tyr/Tywaz/Tyw (Norse, OHG, Anglo-Saxon).

Similar to Odin, Tyr was a god of many “things”, with his name being spelled in many different ways, meaning different things.

A thing is also a Germanic tribal council, of which Tyr was a patron god. Tyr represented law, justice and dueling (one-on-one combat).

It is possible that Tuesdays were the preferred days to hold tribal meetings and practice law and justice.
