DAN HENG.FOR THE CHARACTER ASK GAME!!

General opinion/How much I care about them: Man, Dan Heng is such a fun guy. You see this quiet dude and you think he's probably all plain and straight-laced, but then he, in no particular order: gets into a an underground fight club tournament (and wins??), breaks a military fleet's banishment sentence to save his pals, and gets a whole cutscene wherethe idiot almost kisses the mc (there's no way that was a proper CPR attempt. He was 100% bullshitting his way there).

The way they handled his background and character arc makes me very sad tho. I wish the writers took their time with playing out his backstory; it could've been so much better if they waited long enough to let us get to know him and everyone else involved a little better, to see his struggle with the very interesting ship of theseus theme he has going on in light of Dan Feng's history, and deliver on all that in a way that's actually impactful in emotion and story relevance, instead of rushing it in favor of getting to the bossfight of the quest. Alas, it is what it is.

At least he got out of it with something! I mean, who can say no to 1 more little sister :D

A non-romantic relationship that I love: THE ASTRAL EXPRESS. Sometimes a family is a retired Herrscher, the creator of The Dreaded Coffee™, a lonely dragon with autism, a calendar day in an ice cube, a funky ticking time bomb, and the bunny carrying the whole train on their back.

They are everything to me. Their groupchat is literally called The Astral Express Family. I love them your honor I hope they all live happy and peaceful and prosperous lives and hopefully don't get their 3rd stabbed member in a row when we head to the next planet. The Astral Express checks offs all the right boxes of wholesome and sweet for the found family enjoyer that is yours truly, which is just- mwah. I love them so so so much.

(Bonus shoutout to Bailu AKA the new little sister I mentioned a bit above. I NEED to see more of her and Dan Heng together, they're just adorable.)

The NOTP: Danmarch, Danstelle and Dancae. I just. don't see it. They're so sibling-coded to me, it feels off to see them in a romantic context.

My biggest headcanon about them: I think all Vidyadhara are cold-blooded by virtue of being dragons, so Dan Heng prefers to sleep on the floor of the archives because, given the amount of devices running in such a small space, it's always the warmest place on the Express. Or so he thinks until March drags him and Stelle for a sleepover in her room and builds a pillow fort. Turns out their newest member is actually a portable heater, and the pillows and blankets are also very warm and comfy too and- wait, what's that sweet feeling?

...Oh no.

Now he wants to try this again.

An idea for a fanfiction I would like to write/read about them: 5 times people smile at Dan Heng + the one time he smiles at them. Featuring me-typical express fam appearances, a sprinkle of Bailu and a dash of Jing Yuan, and maaaybe a hint of that one ghost from the past.

Now if only I can find something along those lines or figure out how to write it myself... hmm...

Something that makes me think of them: withered leaves, lotus blooms, small water ponds, zither music (idk), and, uh, Kaedehara Kazuha. Maple leaf windboy solidarity lmao

💤: Do you get kin dreams?

Yes and no? I get kin dreams in the same way I get dreams about real life. My dreams about my current life are pretty much nonsensical even though they have very structured plotlines and may feature fears/worries/memories of mine. I'll have dreams that are like that but in the lens of a kintype, so it's as if I was in that kin's life, experiencing a dream the way they'd experience a dream. Very rarely I'll get a dream that features clear memories about a kintype.

🏔: What makes you feel closer to your kintype(s)?

Hmmm...talking about them and getting to share past lives with my partner! We are soulbonded so all our kins are in each other's lives. Also getting to look at fancontent for fictionkin or official content even!! Unless it's something that is very strongly against my kin canon in which case it's actually triggering dfkjhgdfkjgdfg. But with other otherkin like therian stuff like getting to act dog-like or like the animal! And also just getting to do stuff like dress how they'd want to dress more or having icons as a fictionkin and stuff ^w^!!

in this au they all are in similar grades bc i thought abt trying to make it work in canon but it just doesn't rip

- goes to highschool with marcy, leaf, and marigold

- yes he is incredibly tortured by seeing her all the time lol

- in his freshman year he had a random slump and kind of just did nothing and sulked around all the time (post child boy scout burnout/gifted kid burnout)

- like his grades were... whatever but he didn't talk to anyone and didn't do any extra curriculars

- his parents got tired of him being so suddenly lethargic-teenager so they made him join track

- he's actually really good at it, and eventually (not freshman year but eventually) he's semipopular in an awkward way where people know him but he doesn't TALK to all those people

- does really embarrassing dares with his track teammates. He's not necessarily pressured so much as he gets really into it in the moment LOL

- i put this in the fic but he ran into leaf at a club fair and they hang out now lol

- and leaf hangs out with logainne so he started hanging out with logainne

- and he has some classes with marcy and they were both in a school-rut so they bonded

- wasn't for a while that leaf naturally got the whole spelling bee group hanging out together but that was incredibly weird for chip ... bc... it's kind of weird in general

- especially hanging with barfee but they make up and they're homies (who play argue and play brawl)

- had to do a creative writing unit and discovered he's really good at that too but he's kinda embarrassed about it

- he likes like typical story writing and also nostalgic poems but he's even more embarrassed about that

- he and olive once made eye contact at a creative writing contest he went to without telling anyone and now she wards his secret

- one summer marcy got really into skateboarding and chip tried it out too to be supportive but he ate shit every. Single. time.

- chip learned to drive his junior year and really wanted a sports car but he got a shitty hand me down dad car

- one time marcy called him like "hey can you pick me up" nd he was like "from where" and she's like. "from san francisco?'

- they're like besties and they go on a lot of late night snack missions

- it was a hard switch but it doesn't take long to find his crowd bc he's a naturally charismatic person

- his crowd is theater kids. he really loves improv and straight plays, he loves musicals too but he doesn't have great rhythm LOL

- he also LOVES helping make costumes, and in junior/senior year he's on the board

- still likes to make some of his own clothes

- was always tall for his age but had a growth spurt before freshman year and he's like. 6'1 LOL he's a stringbean

- sneaks both his cats and logainne into his school

- yes admin is tired but damn are his cats cute

- logainne is his best friend for literal life they are inseparable and will find any reason to hang out

- kind of an energy drink addict (they're not allowed in his house but he WILL drink too many anywhere else if u don't watch out and then crash and feel sick)

- (sidenote he HAS calmed down some but he can still be distractable and is still rlly high energy. Some days he takes to just completely slow down and veg out tho which is nice) (like pretty much he just won't stomp around and roar or whatever in the middle of sentences like in im not that smart 😭)

- on the complete opposite end of that he's also an organic fruit smoothie addict

- he also loves to bake and he's REALLY good at it but his younger siblings aren't allowed sugar so he will spontaneously get a bunch of ingredients and then show up at his friends' houses late at night to borrow their kitchen

- he tries to "spread the love" by doing this equally at all his friends places

- olive is his #1 baking buddy tho!

- also speaking of siblings he's the best older brother ever and he doesnt really like to be home but he'll spend time with his siblings

- .... his parents just keep havin babies

- anyway he's not as good at cooking bc it bores him so he'll get distracted and let things burn whoops

- tons of sleepovers at logainnes he's like a son to her dads

- gets a giant van to drive all his friends around in, it's decked out

- fixes holes in his friends clothes

- they all have a million friendship bracelets bc he just gets sappy and makes more or forgets he made one

- keeps everything ever given to him

- loves interactive science museums where u get to touch stuff more than ANYYYYTHIIIING. He will get lost in the dino bones

- and loves nature and hikes but mainly to look at bugs

- is the king of poster projects in class

- wasn't allowed to watch horror movies as a kid so logainne showed him some classic his freshman year and he literally couldn't sleep for a week but now he likes them, just mostly the campy stuff

- so stuff like little shop, rocky horror, r his the musicals bc it's cheesy campy horror AND theater!

- also first got social media like freshman/sophomore year and he just posts poorly taken pictures and occasionally answers his friends dms

- junior year on, a good amount of his theater peers develop like silly little crushes on him but he's completely oblivious and chip is just so jealous bc he gets no bitches

- he's the glue of the 25th annual kids bc he sort of just naturally started hanging out w them individually again and was like Oh shit why don't we all just hang out

- he is the only person marcy will cuddle

In your opinion, after Marceline sang WOKE UP which made Larvo to re-enter his cave. Was PB also sad because her hard work meant nothing and that the Glass citizens were grateful for Marcy instead of her? Or that her determination to prove she's independent to the Glass People caused her relationship with Marceline to end?

Yeah I believe so. As we see in Obsidian, the glass people gave her no acknowledgement or praise like she's used to and Marceline would never had "saved" the glass kingdom had she not "tagged along" with her. But since PB got so focused on her goals that she started to neglect Marceline as she explained in Varmints. So yeah, getting diss tracked by the person you thought you loved and getting the credit you thought you deserved taken from you, I get why PB would break down and run away and it gives more context to their attitudes toward each other in Go With Me and What Was Missing. I hope that answer satisfies and tysm for the ask ❤

5. Yes, I did consult wand lore! Harry Potter is my special interest so I left no stone unturned when it came to the beginning of the game >:3 she has a Rowan wand (because of her birthday, which is January 12 btw) which medium flexibility and a Unicorn hair core. Marcy is extremely calculating, usually focusing on diplomatic and manipulative strength rather than brute force, so I thought the wand type fit her well!

7. Marcy didn’t attend Hogwarts for the first four years. Basically, her entire family was caught in a long legal battle with the ministry of magic because of some shady business dealings they’d been doing. Marcy, being 11, had no idea that this had been going on, so being the stubborn girl she was, refused to testify in court. Let’s just say, that sort of backfired for her, and her father ended up in Azkaban with her mother under permanent house arrest. So yeah, good times!

9. Yes! Her personality was slightly inspired by both Minthara and Shadowheart from Baldurs Gate three. Also, her name was originally inspired by Marcy Wu from Amphibia, but now Marcy is just a nickname she goes by. Her full name is actually Marceline!

12. I really could have seen it going either way, but in the end I decided she’d open it up. She sort of goes on a character arc throughout the game, starting out as this pompous spoiled pure blood girl who’s prone to breakdowns, to a caring and loving friend (mostly). I think Marcy at the beginning of the story would have 100% taken the power from the repository. But later Marcy sympathizes with Isadora rather than idolizing her. So yeah, she would!

🌦️ reality

the feeling of her backpack strap being grabbed brought Ryuu back to reality. stopping her before she could get close to the ice cream store.

taking out her headphones, her eyes slowly and anxiously wandered over to the strap of her backpack.

a pale tattooed hand was latched onto it. a tattoo whose character read, or what she believed to say 'sin' on the back the hand.

Ryuu could already feel the panic set in as she whipped her head around to face the figure. almost immediately recognized a somewhat familiar face.

The animal stuck its head up out of the reeds when it heard their footsteps.

The deer's red eyes nervously gazing over at Chuntao and wukong from the shallow end of the pond it was standing in.

upon entering the clearing, the monkey king was in awe of everything around him.

His golden eyes were mesmerized by the colorful flowers that dotted trees and grass around him.

The smell of peaches, lotus petals, fresh grass, and soil filled the air around him.

all he could hear were the sounds of the forest, the gentle splashing of water, and the gentle coos and curious chirps of songbirds in the canopy above them.

so much of this place felt like his home. a part of him almost thought this was just a part of his home that had been placed here long ago.

"Fresh picked lemons?" felicity sighed, picking a few twigs out of her hair "yes...at least i hope they are."

sitting the basket down on the counter, felicity looked around the rest of the kitchen for luz and Quinn. quickly taking notice Quinn's messenger bag had disappeared from the back of the chair.

"Where is luz and Quinn?" she asked, looking around for her sibling and friend, "I thought they were going to practice with aunt may today?"

"They were" Nadia replied, handing king another bag of cookies "but aunt may and eda needed to restock on elixir and they decided to tag along."

They had faced many minor hardships to try and get this vehicle running.

weird weather patterns, attacks or close encounters with the planet's local wildlife, sleepless nights, ect.

thankfully, with the help of winter and jasper, the group eight was able to finally get the engine repaired to a point that they could go beyond the forest clearing of their home base without getting attacked by the wildlife that stalked its perimeter.

"hey Eli! quick question, should we really have the 16-year-olds of the group driving this thing?" Sonia asked scooting in beside Marcy and Dakota in the middle seat.

"i understand your concern Sonia but winter and ash are the only ones who actually know how this particular vehicle works " Eli replied, tossing winter and ash the keys as she climbed in beside jasper and Malia, "plus, their dad was the one who invented this thing back on earth. So, they automatically have authority."

Noelle stopped for a second, thinking. “Sourdough bread, Cheddar and Muenster cheese, sliced tomatoes, sauted greens, sliced pear, ham, and cut into two diagonal pieces.” Silence. I peeked into her mind. “Could you by any chance make that sandwich sometime?” Noelle smiled slightly. “Sure.” “Told you Muenster was the best,” Liam said. “Which means, I win.” This ensued more overlapping yelling. “Ash!” Jazlyn said, coming over with Ewan. “Have you seen Niri anywhere?” “In the room,” I pointed over. “But he wanted to be alone I think.” “I’m just gonna pop in and ask him the cheese question,” Jazlyn went off to the room, Ewan protesting as he followed. I sent Nirini a quick mental heads-up that Jazlyn was coming. Lexi called over Rose to ask her opinion. As she did, I peeked into Lexi’s mind, feeling her joy as she engaged in the conversation. I wondered why I was so jealous earlier seeing her laughing with her new friends. Afterall, they should be my friends, too, and regardless, she was having fun. If she was happy, so was I.

From School of the Legends, Year One

Once they reached the other end of the table, Beau made another stalk, and they climbed toward the mantle. Jack kept glancing over at the giants, hoping they would just leave the room. But right now, it seemed that they were going to stay at that dinner table for at least a little while longer. Being at the top of the mantle made Jack feel a little better, since like the table, there were obstructions to the giants’ view of them. He led the way toward the central clock, where the pile of rubbish he had seen, as he expected, were all human-sized. “What would giants need with this?” Jill asked, picking up a bag that rattled as she did so. “Hm.” She opened the bag, her eyes growing. “Whoa, check this out.” She held the bag open at an angle in which Jack and Beau could see. Inside were shimmering golden coins. Jack reached in, carefully picking one up. He saw his reflection faintly on the surface--his normally green eyes taking on a yellow appearance on the coin’s golden face. “Do you think these are legit?” he asked as he put the coin back in the bag. “I’m not sure,” said Jill, sealing it shut. “But it obviously doesn’t belong to them, unless in the giants’ land their currency is about as loseable as a grain of sand.” Beau knelt down beside a crate with holes poked in the top. He peered through one of the slits in the crate. “Merde, there’s a chicken in here.”

“State your name,” Dr. Asghar said, putting what I assumed was hand sanitizer in her palm. “As in first name?” I asked. “Or first and last? Or full name? Or possible nicknames? Or—” “Enough!” Dr. Asghar said through gritted teeth. “Full name.” “Robert Benjamin Stafford.” “Age?” Dr. Asghar asked, not even touching the monitor. “Twe— I mean, thirteen,” I said, forgetting for a second it was my birthday. “Date of birth?” “C’mon, man, that’s pers—” “Date of birth?” Dr. Asghar asked more harshly. I sighed. I considered giving out a fake one, but decided against it. “May 2nd, 2010.” Dr. Asghar didn’t seem surprised by the date, but she did when the lights on her glasses changed, indicating that something on her screen changed. She gestured Dr. Moon over. “Hm,” he said. “Hm? Hm, what? What does hm mean?” Dr. Asghar sighed and turned the screen around so I could see. “There you go. Welcome to our world.”

From The Secret Portal, Part One:

I looked around the forest to find any signs of humanoid life besides myself. Still dizzy and using the tree for balance, I turned myself around and was both surprised and relieved to see houses beyond the trees. Laughing, I floundered my way in that direction using the trees as balance. I broke into a stumbling run that only lasted a few seconds as I paused to take in my surroundings. The houses were huge and made of earth. They were all conic in shape and not seemingly arranged in any pattern. They were all decorated with abstract geometric figures, seeming to be in the shape of a sun, carved into the earth. They reminded me of my mom’s native culture—something she tried to raise us with as much as possible, though she didn’t talk about it directly. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed something floating in midair. I looked up—it was a sign also in the shape of a sun that said “Taabe,” that shimmered a slight blue. Taabe… that was sun, according to what little I had of my mom’s origins.
