Day 18: Tyra of Denmark (also spelled Thyri). In the sagas, she was forced to marry the pagan king Burislav of Wenden by her brother Svein Forkbeard. She refused and fled to Norway, offering to marry the Norwegian king Olaf Tryggvason instead. She sent her new husband to retrieve her Wendish properties, but he was killed by Forkbeard on the way back, after which Tyra apparently committed suicide, but that’s just what the sagas say…

Tyra of Denmark was a 10th-century Danish princess. She was the spouse of both King Olav I of Norway and of Styrbjörn Starke, prince of Sweden.
Tyra was daughter of the Danish king Harald Bluetooth and thus a sister to King Sweyn Forkbeard. She was first married to the Swedish prince and throne claimant Styrbjörn Starke (Styrbjörn the Strong), son of King Olof Björnsson. However Styrbjörn Starke died in the Battle of Fýrisvellir (986) near Uppsala fighting with his uncle King Eric the Victorious for the throne of Sweden.
According to Snorri Sturluson, she was next betrothed to the Wendish king Burislav, as part of a Danish-Wendic peace agreement negotiated by King Sweyn Forkbeard. As part of the agreement, Sweyn married Gunhild of Wenden who was the sister of Burislav. However, after her hunger strike, Burislav sent her back to Denmark.
She subsequently arranged to have herself married to Olaf Tryggvason, King of Norway, to the displeasure of her brother Sweyn. When Olaf married her, Sweyn refused to pay her promised dowry. Olaf subsequently set out for Wendland to seek allies for a war on Denmark. On the way Olaf was ambushed by Sweyn and an alliance which included Olof Skötkonung, King of Sweden, and Eirik Hákonarson, Jarl of Lade. The resulting Battle of Svolder ended in the death of the Norwegian king (c. 1000). According to legend, Queen Tyra subsequently committed suicide by starvation after receiving news of her husband's death at the battle.

Hi flora it’s me 🪱 anon. Omg it’s been a HOT minute since I’ve come on here with my asks and stupid little unhinged headcanons. I’ve missed you! I’ve been lurking and liking though lol. It’s been almost a year 😭😭 I hope you remembered me if not that okay! For a refresher I’m the anon that would fill your asks with unhinged headcanons of fydor and Dazai specifically. If you still don’t remember that’s okay! I have come barring unhinged headcanons that may or may not jog your memory lmao😭 anyways here you go
-fydor is the type of guy to accidentally spill coffee on you and than gaslit you into thinking it was your fault and than make you pay for a new coffee.
-fyodor has unironically said “sigma male” with a straight face
-fydor has bad constipation a little to often and knows it’s from dairy products but refuses to give it up
-follow up to the hc above. He doesn’t believe in allergies. Like he thinks it’s a mindset???
-Fyodor is the Azealia Banks of the bsd universe. If you don’t know her… you do just search up her name she will not disappoint
-Fyodor would probably like discord kittens 😭
-he has unfortunately had a bowl cut in his lifetime
-fucking movie snob. Pretentious.
-say why can’t we just print more money when talking about inflation and watch hi. Plan your death???
-anti capitalist. He’s a contradiction
-has a pierced d!ck. Not because he wanted one or thought it suited him but because Dazai and him made a bet and he lost
-trauma dumps at the weirdest moments. He could be grocery shopping and turn to you and tell you in detail how he witnessed one of the most horrific deaths and than complain about how all the berries are underripe.
-he’s a twink. Sure he could be straight as an arrow but something he’s still a twink and we as a society have to accept that.
-has illegally obtained a hippo because… idk he wanted it probably???
-him and early 2000’s Tyra banks would get along so well
-went to Denmark once and ended up accidentally caused a small uprising amongst the fishermen??
-he has a massive schlong, one time he stuck it jello.
Alright that’s all for now! I will be back mwah!

do you have suggestions for names for future queens that arent magarete?
It's difficult, you know, because the case for Margrethe is just very strong given her predecessors. It's actually one of Danish history's most curious coincidences that QMII became QMII. She was named for her late British grandmother and presumably, at the time of her birth, Frederik and Ingrid were hopeful they'd get themselves a little Christian sooner or later. But she so happens to end up becoming Queen of Denmark and she so happens to share name with the closest we've come to having a female monarch of Denmark. That is pretty amazing, if you ask me.
And ON TOP of I and II, we have Margrethe Sambiria – consort to Christoffer I and first female regent of Denmark – also known as "Margrethe Sprænghest" (or Margrethe Burst-horse!!1!) as she was known to ride horses to their death, leading her army across the country. It's just... difficult to argue against continuing the tradition QMII started since we've just had a myriad of badass Margrethes 😅
BUT, some suggestions:
Thyra – We actually don't know a whole lot about Thyra Danebod yet she's a legend. Mother of the Kingdom of Denmark, what's not to like? (Well, that would be its English pronunciation but hey-ho. Lest we forget that Norway's Ingrid Alexandra would've been Tyra Eufemia had Haakon and Mette-Marit felt bold enough 😂)
Dagmar – You'd think I was naming daughters of Christian IX but I'd give this particular one to Dagmar of Bohemia (actual name Markéta, or in Danish – you guessed it – Margrethe). Again, a legendary Queen and she who gave the Dagmar Cross its name. Doesn't hurt that "we" had a Russian Empress named Dagmar either.
Ingrid – You knew she'd be coming and she doesn't need an explanation. Queen Ingrid was instrumental to the DRF. While it may not be used for a potential firstborn daughter in the forthcoming generation (due to aforementioned Norwegian Ingrid), I can easily see her used in the future.
Louise – It has a dated feel, I understand but hear me out: Technically speaking, the reason the Glücksburgs are on the Danish throne today is because of Louise of Hesse-Kassel 🤷♀️ We've also had no less than 4 Queen consorts named Louise.
Emma – Bit of an outsider, Emma of Normandy does not get the respect nor the attention she deserves. And it's a timeless name!

Denmark Abolishes All Corona Measures
By JD Rucker August 10, 2021 in Healthcare, News and Opinions Danish parliament recently decided in Copenhagen that all Corona measures should be ended from October 1. There will therefore no longer be a mask requirement and the test regime will be abolished. The Danes will then no longer have to provide evidence of whether they are vaccinated or unvaccinated, or whether they have tested positive or negative.
All Corona measures are being lifted in view of the increasing incidence figures in Denmark, reported RT Deutsch. Since the beginning of July this value has risen from 31 to 107,2 (as of August 8). At the same time, the upper limits of this Corona indicator has increased significantly.
At the same time, the incidence limits are increased significantly: In communities from 300 to 500 infected people within seven days, in the districts from 500 to 1000. However, the prerequisite is that an increasing number of Covid-19 patients does not overload the health care system.
Denmark’s SSI infectious diseases agency said it no longer relied on vaccination to achieve herd immunity in the country. Tyra Grove Krause, the SSI’s acting academic director, said a new wave of infections were expected after people return to work and school at the end of this summer, but it should not be cause for alarm. “It will be more reminiscent of the flu,” Krause said.
Overall, the current vaccination rate is just under 58,4 percent of fully vaccinated people in Denmark. In Germany, this value is only slightly lower at 54,5 percent (as of August 8) but vaccine advocates have been persistent in their fear-mongering and pressure on the unvaccinated.
Tyrolean lawyer Dr. Renate Holzeisen, meanwhile strongly recommended that all employers refrain from vaccination pressure or compulsory vaccination, because most of them were “obviously not even aware of the far-reaching legal consequences associated with it”.
The fact that the so-called Covid-19 vaccines, according to the official approval documents of the EMA and the European Commission were not developed and approved for the prevention of infection with the SARS-COV-2 virus, but solely to prevent a more severe course of the disease, were conditionally approved for this reason alone, Holzeisen underscored.
The official approval documents therefore show that these substances cannot interrupt the chain of infection because the people treated with them can become infected and thus be infectious. Practice also proves that people who are completely “vaccinated” become infected with the virus and even have the same viral load as “unvaccinated people” as the CDC, among others, has admitted. It is therefore clear that any Covid-19 “compulsory vaccination” actually lacks any justification.
All pressure, including moral pressure (alleged act of solidarity with one’s neighbor) is therefore illegal in terms of criminal and liability law based on the official approval documents.
“As a lawyer advising on corporate law, I strongly recommend that every employer stay away from Covid-19 vaccination pressure or compulsory vaccination, because most of them are obviously not even aware of the far-reaching legal consequences associated with it,” she said.

Omicron less severe but still threat to health systems
Omicron is causing record numbers of cases around the world, and though it causes less severe COVID-19 experts warn this wave still threatens to overwhelm health systems.
Nose and throat, not lungs
Six weeks after it was first sequenced in southern Africa Omicron cases are smashing infection records with average new daily cases at nearly two million this week, according to an AFP tally.
At the same time, the illness caused by the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is proving less severe.
On Friday the French public health authority said the risk of hospitalisation was about 70 percent lower for Omicron, citing data from the US, the UK, Canada and Israel.
Experts point out that the lack of severity may be due to widespread immunity thanks to vaccination or previous infection.
But studies on animals point to another peculiarity: rather than affecting the lungs where severe COVID takes root, it seems to proliferate in the nose and throat.
This would not only explain the variant's less-dangerous symptoms but also its ability to spread quickly through coughing and sneezing.
Because of this, some experts are calling for better mask protection and Austria on Thursday made medical grade FFP2 masks mandatory outside.
Hospitals on edge
But even though Omicron is causing less severe illness, the surging caseload overall has scientists urging caution to keep from overwhelming health systems.
"Even if the percentage of cases with severe disease is proportionally lower, when there are record cases, that still means record numbers of people in the hospital," tweeted US virologist Angela Rasmussen on Friday.
Unlike previous variant waves, however, this one seems so far to be affecting regular hospital admissions rather than ICU capacity.
This is the case in Denmark where national health service SSI reported that between December 1 and January 1 new COVID cases rose by about 70 percent across the country.
But hospitalisations only rose by 47 percent and ICU admissions by 20 percent.
Jab immunity weaker
Lab tests show that antibody levels in blood samples from people vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna jabs drop when faced with Omicron.
The drop is even greater in those vaccinated with AstraZeneca or Sinovac, a Chinese jab authorised in about 50 countries.
A booster seems to increase antibodies, with both Pfizer and Moderna announcing positive results from recent tests.
But nobody knows how long the booster will be effective.
This does not mean vaccines are useless against Omicron: the body has a secondary immune defence called T-cell response, which fights the virus by attacking infected cells.
This secondary response is particularly important in preventing severe forms of illness.
A recent study from South Africa showed Pfizer/BioNTech remained effective at preventing severe COVID from Omicron even after just two shots.
Last wave?
Some experts and officials have openly expressed hope that by spreading a less-severe COVID, Omicron could be helping the planet achieve herd immunity along with jabs.
Echoing French and Israeli counterparts, top Danish epidemiologist Tyra Grove Krause tweeted her "cautious optimism about the situation when we have overcome the Omicron wave".
The World Health Organization however is urging caution.
"The more Omicron spreads, the more it transmits and the more it replicates, the more likely it is to throw out a new variant," WHO senior emergencies officer Catherine Smallwood told AFP in an interview Tuesday.
But even if Omicron isn't the last variant, experts think immunity from previous waves might mean the worst will soon be behind us.
"New variants may challenge us," Grove Krause said, "but with vaccines hopefully SARS-CoV-2 will turn into just another airway virus we can live normally with."
