YES I AM STILL DOING OC-TOBER! I DON'T CARE THAT IT'S MID-NOVEMBER, I'MMA FINISH THIS DAMMIT!
By the way. Remember when I told you I did prompt 21 last time? Yeah that was a lie, that was prompt 20. TODAY is prompt 21, draw your OC with your favorite character
I have a lot of favorite characters from a lot of favorite medias, but I have firmly decided that my favorite book of all time is Disenchanted: The Trials of Cinderella by Megan Morrison. It's the second book in a series, and it is SOOOOOOOO good.
Anyway, my favorite character from that book is the blue fairy Serge. He's a fashionable model of professionalism who is waiting for his asshole boss to retire so that he can fix the fairy-godparenting business to help children in need instead of just rich brats. All of his carefully laid plans are abruptly hijacked when he gets an apprentice in Jasper, the crimson fairy who RADIATES dramatic theatre kid energy. I refuse to spoil anything else though.
In the Land of Tyme (the world where this book is set), witches are created by selling their souls to the Great White Fairy in the Sky (who's an asshole, but not explicitly a satanic allegory). To maintain their lives and powers, they have to consume innocence, usually accomplished by eating children. Witch and fairy magic do NOT mix, don't play nice with each other, repel each other, and make the users of both physically weakened and ill. It's like poison.
While Hazel's done some heinous stuff, she's not a cannibal, and she only preys on other evil people. Serge has no way of knowing this, and would be absolutely horrified in a number of ways if he met a child witch, while Hazel would just be confused.
Everybody go read The Land of Tyme series by Megan Morrison, it's been intricately worldbuilt to a degree that I would actually describe the books as lessons on civics, ethics, and politics disguised as fractured fairytales. They're REALLY REALLY good. Anyway.

Muppet Fact #745
Tim Curry starred in the unaired pilot for Madness Reigns, a 1998 sitcom produced by the Jim Henson Company. The show followed Curry as King Nicholas Serge Rudolph George Leopold Ludwig Von Ebelskiver of Lichtenbourg-Hvoristan who was exiled from his country and now living in New York City with his family, many of whom were puppets. The show was never greenlit.

Top 6 Reasons You Should Read the Tyme trilogy by Megan Morrison
Reread a fantasy series I love and appreciate, so now it's time for you guys to love and appreciate it too
It's a fairy tale retelling series. Which is always an endorsement in my mind, but here are some more reasons that's great in this series. The takes on the fairy tales are so cool and refreshing, and well executed-- Cinderella fighting for the working class, the Frog Prince going through a redemption arc where he becomes a better person, and the absolutely shaped storyline that Rapunzel has. And most of them (particularly books one and three) combine multiple fairy tales in such a smooth, natural way.
The world building is INCREDIBLE. The tiny details and the way the different countries are introduced are so cool!! And they really go into smaller details, like the main exports that keep the country going, or the traditions of each country when it comes to dealing with loss. The magic systems are SO COOL, too!!
The characters are all really well done-- they're beautifully developed, both as characters and their relationships with each other. Syrah (main character of book three) has one of the best redemption styles arcs I've ever seen where he goes from unlikeable jerk to a caring, kind individual. Even the villains have well thought out motivations and in depth backstories
The romances in each of the three books are PERFECT because you have a slow burn, a couple that get together in the same book but help each other grow in powerful ways, and a book where the main character doesn't get the girl. The trope breaking! The following of the tropes but in just the perfect way! The level to which I am obsessed with Jack and Rapunzel! It's INSANE
All of the books and their stories are deeply intwined. There are cameos and small details in each book that lead you back to the other three, details that pop out and blow your mind at a reread or even the first time around!
It's really funny and charming and delightful writing. And There are these fascinating implications of other stuff going on in the world you're reading about-- stuff that we'll probably never find out about, since the last book was released in 2019 and there's no sign of another, which is really sad
Anyways, this is a super good series, you won't regret it if you read it! Oh my stars and I didn't even mention SERGE MY BELOVED FAVORITE CHARACTER FOR SURE THE FAIRY GODFATHER LEGEND HIMSELF listen just. read this series. Good talk

I just finished reading Disenchanted on your recommendation and I loved it!! Do you think you'll ever do an aesthetic for serge and jasper?
Oh my gosh! I’m so glad you liked it! I’m telling you, the Tyme books are so underrated. I hadn’t thought of doing an aesthetic for Serge and Jasper! They don’t have a lot of possessions and things to work with. But I do love them so I’ll have to think about it. I don’t know who I would cast as Jasper! Any ideas?

The Great Bookshelf Caper: Disenchanted by Megan Morrison
Title: Disenchanted: The Trials of Cinderella
Author: Megan Morrison
Status: New read
How did I acquire it?
One of the gift books from my boss.
How long have I owned it without reading it?
About a month.
Thoughts?
I have fallen in love with Megan Morrison. Not only am I convinced that she is a better version of myself (she got her start writing Harry Potter fanfiction, she's currently teaching drama to middle schoolers, she went to school for theatre, and she writes about fairy tales -- we are the same person), but she has created a fairy tale world I never want to leave.
I'm not going to give this fairy tale adaptation the Fairy Tale Project treatment like I did with Grounded, mostly because this is not a traditional retelling of Cinderella, and actually barely follows the story we all know. Cinderella loses a slipper and flees from the prince within the first 19 pages, and the ball is over and done with before we even hit the halfway point. And I don't care. See, this Cinderella has much bigger things to worry about than winning the prince's heart at some ball. She has to find a way to fix unfair labor standards that threaten the working class of her kingdom. She has to stand up for those who can't and be a voice for those who are being silenced. And if she thinks about the prince at all, it's because she hopes she can show him the things that are wrong and convince him to do something about it. This Cinderella is a revolutionary -- and I love it.
I love every character in this story. I love the good guys -- Ella, who is fiery and passionate and reckless and stubbornly uncharming. Prince Dash, who wants to be a better person and fights against his privilege. Serge, who is losing his magic because nothing about being a fairy godfather is real anymore, and Jasper, who rekindles the flame of hope inside Serge (and other things, I'm hoping, as the series progresses (I SHIP IT, IF THAT WASN'T CLEAR)). I love the middle guys -- Sharlyn, Ella's stepmother, who's not wicked, she's just business-savvy and pragmatic in a way that crimps Ella's idealism. Clover and Linden, the "wicked" stepsiblings, who are a bit vain and abrasive, but never truly evil. Lavaliere, who's the snotty brat on the surface but with a heart of . . . like, tarnished silver underneath. I even love the bad guys -- Lady Lavier, Bejeweled the corrupt head fairy godmother, King Clement. Everyone is just so wonderful, I love them all.
But most of all, I love how REAL this world that Morrison has created feels. It never falls into "fairy tale world" vagueness, and I can't stress enough how refreshing that is. This book starts out as Cinderella and then becomes a fairy tale version of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, and there's something bold about that, make no mistake. This book has gumption, and it says something, and I want so many more books from this world. I am thrilled that the internet tells me I will eventually have six. I only wish that number was higher.
Status after reading:
This one stays, until it comes out in paperback, which I will then buy so that my copies match. Or, let's be real, I'll probably buy Grounded in hardback because I'm not going to wait to buy the rest of these until they're in paperback, so...
Numbers:
In the project: 418
Tackled so far: 10
Still unread: 91
Giving away: 4
#the great bookshelf caper#tyme#megan morrison#disenchanted the trials of cinderella#seriously can we talk about how much i love this series#or how much i ship serge and jasper?#I'll talk about either thing really#the answer in both cases is the same#A LOT

Hello there I have another random question for you because I'm bored and I also genuinely want to know, what are you dressing up as for Halloween? Or if you don't celebrate Halloween or your just not dressing up this year what would you want to be and why?
Sorry that it's kinda random but Halloween is in like two days and I'm genuinely curious because Halloween is my favorite holiday and I just love dressing up in general!
I'm also asking because I. One of your posts you said you like ranting and just talking about stuff and I love talking as well so, but if you would like me to stop my barrage of odd questions I will.
AHAHAHA! YES! MORE QUESTIONS! I love ranting, even/especially if it's the same person over and over!
Halloween is also my favorite holiday, but I almost always do the most low effort costume ever. It's like a tradition. Part of how I celebrate. I think best prize for least effort goes to the year I went as a Boy Scout. . .where I just put on my scout uniform because I AM a Boy Scout.
This year I'm a witch. I have a black overall dress, a black button down shirt, black leggings and black socks along with three different black jackets I can wear to stay decently warm. I bought the hat at a Spirit Halloween. It's ridiculously, and I mean STUPIDLY tall. Here's a picture with a can of febreze for height reference:
I think if I had infinite time, money, and resources, I'd probably dress as Serge the blue fairy from Disenchanted: the Trials of Cinderella. Nobody would know who I am, but I frankly do not care.
It is my favorite book of all time from my favorite series of all time: The Land of Tyme. It's fractured fairytales (so retellings of classic fairytales through different angles and with a lot of variation), and I think it is the single best take I have ever seen on all of them. The worldbuilding is so in depth and immaculate. There are currently three books out: Grounded: The Adventures of Rapunzel; Disenchanted: The Trials of Cinderella; and Transformed: The Perils of the Frog Prince. It updates at the pace of a constipated snail in a heatwave, and I could not love them more.
I mostly celebrate Halloween by having trick-or-treater duty. We have a dog who would go ballistic if every single person had to knock on the door, so it's better to just sit outside. My dad and I usually do it together. To really make it special, instead of passing out candy, we do a hot cocoa/apple cider bar. We have a kettle of hot water and kids can make cider or cocoa and then put whatever toppings they want in it (marshmallows, whipped cream, sprinkles, honey, cinnamon sugar, different coffee creamers, etc.) This way, we actually get to talk to the kids and compliment their cute costumes.
We usually take our small portable DVD player outside and watch It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and Hocus Pocus in between waves of kids. My dad almost always dresses as a scarecrow so that he can put on a lot of layers to keep warm without anybody noticing.
It's really special to me and makes me so very happy. I love the kids, I love the time I get to spend with my dad, I love the old cheesy Halloween movies, and I love the Holiday Spirit.
Thanks so much for asking! What are you going as? What do you wish you could go as? How do you usually celebrate, and what are your plans for this year? What's your favorite non-Halloween occasion to dress up? Both you specifically and everyone else who sees this? I wanna know!
