like, honestly I can really see Lavaliere's side of things and why she does the things she does (btw LOTS of respect to MM for giving even the side characters lots of depth) but there /was/ a point where she could've just said no.
However, while her mom wasn't there, her presence continued to loom over her. I think at that point it was a sort of muscle memory, you know? Like, she's been going through this song and dance for YEARS and she just keeps numbing the pain and relieving the symptoms, not the cause/root of the problem (which is her mom. Her mom's poison is more deadly than the outbreak on her face)
