While aoki isn’t blatantly suicidal, he’s definitely on that edge. Like, he doesn’t really have a will to live outside of his friends and Dunite (because he obviously sees her as not just a friend lol).

That’s kind of how it’s always been. He doesn’t lament it, honestly he probably thinks that having to fight to get up in the morning is NORMAL. It’s all he’s ever known, feeling like he’s an unworthy wretch who deserves nothing.

Dunite is basically the complete opposite of this mentality.

I find it interesting that you said Dunite's the exact opposite of that mentality, and when I first read it I was like "... welllllllll" but now that I think about it, she really is.

I was hesitant to agree at first thought bc Dunite uses her happiness and ditziness as a bit of a cover for her anger and abilities. But outside that she genuinely is that person- a very happy, ditzy, protective, blunt character.

She and Aoki really are opposites. That was obvious before but the more I think about it, the more I'm realizing how true that is. Dunite doesn't just stick to the usual reasons to want to keep going, she's so positive usually that she looks for things every single day, hour, and minute that are worth living for. Does that have some depressive undertones? Kinda yeah. But it's also really nice in a way bc she's always looking for reasons to smile.

I feel some similarities though are like. Wanting to be loved and liked but feeling like they can't be. Dunite feels like she can't be loved for her anger and intensity, Aoki feels he can't be bc he's the embodiment of suicide. They also both wake up to 'fight', though in different ways- Dunite's physically and externally fighting with Hexe and almost every other member of the Kingdom, while Aoki deals mostly with internal conflict. They both have their fair share of internal and external conflict.

No wonder they balance each other out so much. They're both on almost fully opposite sides of their spectrum. And that would make so much sense why Aokis fucking smitten with her, bc her intensity and (usual) happiness and protective nature completely balances out his. If he was with, say, Icia- shes more in the middle of the spectrum so while they'd balance each other out somewhat it'd still be a sad-leaning relationship that relies a lot on heavy talks.

Not to say it wouldn't work or it'd be toxic. But Dunite's nature will always be best for Aoki.

I was thinking something with eddie and his s/o where shes been feeling really depressed but has been trying to hide it. Eddie does notice something is a little off but doesnt pry too much because she seems overall okay. Except one day when she knows he wont be home she uses her spare key to get into his trailer and finds his stash of the harder drugs he keeps cause every once and a while he gets someone who wants to buy them. She finds pills and decides to take them trying to od and while shes in the bathroom slipping in and out of consciousness Eddie comes back home and finds her
