part 1.5: roronoa zoro (finally!)

i was originally really inspired by @deadbutnostink ‘s zoro fanarts! i love their style and trans goth zoro is the best thing ever!

this was the first planning sheet i ever made so it’s really plain without much elaboration sorry, so i’ll do that here:

gothic, traditional japanese clothes, samurai armor, and pirate attire is kinda all built with lots of layers, but zoro will literally throw off his coat all the time just to fight shirtless, so i think he’s the kind of person that prefers light clothing. so i tried to use as little layers of clothes as possible. but now that i’m looking at the finished drawing, i think oda also intended that to show off his chest scar as much as possible, which is much more difficult to see in my design.

i feel like i’m getting off topic lol. so the mihawk influences and darker moody color palette is supposed to evoke the gothic gloominess of kuraigana and its inhabitants! zoro’s waistcoat has a brocade and standing collar like mihawk’s coat does, but with a thistle and wisteria pattern. In an sbs interview with robin’s japanese va, she was asked her what flowers she associates with each strawhat, and she assigned thistles for zoro. in a later sbs, oda was asked the same question for the supernovas, and assigned wisteria for him. i thought it was a cute detail lol. there’s also swirls in the brocade like on perona’s pre-ts shirt and an arrow-ish design on the sash like her post-ts dress

i wanted to add more overt perona references, but she’s very hyperfeminine in contrast to zoro, so i’d just imagine she painted his nails (but only on the condition that he at least learn how to do so himself)! his waistcoat is supposed to basically hit 3 birds with one stone (hehe threes): gothic, piratey, and traditional japanese style. cause gothic clothes in many subcultures are based off the more lavish clothes worn by nobility in time periods like the victorian era and other european eras before/around that, but stereotypical pirates tend to wear many of the same pieces, like frilly shirts, waistcoats, and coats with pauldrons, but of varying quality due to lower class and criminal status. the general silhouette of the sleeveless waistcoat, much like how the original green coat is like a kimono, is supposed to be reminiscent of a full length sleeveless haori.

zoro was originally supposed to wear haidate, japanese armor pieces worn over the thighs, so that with his haori and hakama pants his look would be reminiscent of samurai, but i ended not liking the extra bulk it added to his look. i considered giving him tabi boots instead of combat boots, but i think the combat boots add to the alternative vibe i’m going for. the gray garment worn under the waistcoat isn’t really a kimono, cause it’s cropped at the hips and with rectangularly constructed sleeves so that they can be rolled up, so i think it’s closer to a jinbei/samue. samue are also commonly worn by zen buddhist monks, like the mala beads that zoro also wears (inspired by @/jojodreamie on twt’s future strawhats au zoro design). apparently the people in shimotsuki village, his hometown, are shown to be buddhists. so even tho zoro is pretty much atheist, or at least agnostic, i think he just keeps beads and stuff as more of a cultural practice than a spiritual one.

i tried really hard to give him a more different realistic body type that suits his training/fighting styles, instead of just that really dehydrated jacked look. idk anything abt anatomy or muscle building or sword fighting, so this is all speculative (and i’ll still say stuff with complete confidence :D). zoro’s strength as a swordsman mainly seems to be focused in his upper body: shoulders/upper back and arms (maybe chest idk???). but with the way he fights with big sweeping swings he needs good strength in his thighs and core for stability. this reminds me more of discus athletes. the way he trains though, is weightlifting, which focuses much on those same muscle groups, but in a different manner focusing more on the back, core, and thighs to build bulk and endurance. so i kinda combined the two?? idk if i did it too well even with my references (i’m afraid of looking at pictures of shirtless dudes lol /hj)

i also gave him an unnecessary amount of scars, but knowing how reckless he is in battle i’d imagine he has a lot of scars around his hands and arms. and it looks cool. his skin tone is closer to his pre-sabaody color palette in the anime, but with the bright green hair of the post-sabaody anime, and the darker olive green roots like opla mackenyu zoro. idk why i gave him those arrow shaped eyebrows, ik i saw some fanart on twitter that inspired it, but i don’t remember it. his nose is also wider and supposed to be a kind of round bulbous shape that’s flat at the front, so a bigger nose shape like koushirou’s “roman” shaped nose.

and now some closeups!! i really like how he looks without the haori too!! but without the big green coat it’s not really reminiscent of the original look so i can’t keep it that way :/

Crashing into You AU

Now that the mystery anon chaos has calmed down we have new AU! And I actually have. A lot of content for this one already kinda. Turns out I get incredibly productive after exams with nothing to do. So! Lets get into SPACE PIRATES AU WOOOO!

Disclaimer: This got really long so uh beware that read more. Might be scrolling for a bit.

Okay so just gonna post this the way I took notes on it so its not very organized lol. The first section it seems I entitled Marcy (+Anne) so take that as you will lol

Overview

Marcy and Sasha are space pirates together! As such, they are aliens. Anne is not an alien, she is but a simple human. Sasharcy is doing a thing that neither will acknowledge so they're doing absolutely great :). Marcanne is well... you'll see. Sashannarcy endgame ofc

Marcy (+Anne)

Marcy crashed into Earth, destroying her ship and getting pretty injured in the process. Of course, she is very smart, and leaves the ship in cloaking mode (invis) and hobbles her way out into the surrounding woodland to figure out where tf she crashed. Anne heard a loud noise in the woods next to her house, accompanied by a flash of light that looks suspiciously like fire. She of course goes out into the woods at night because no matter what she does these teenagers just will not learn proper fire safety. Anne finds no teenagers, but she does find an injured [insert animal. i haven't decided yet please give suggestions TwT]! Of course, since she is a good person and also educated, she takes this injured animal home and cares for it. Marcy hears footsteps approaching, so, of course, she does the only appropriate thing. Shapeshift into the first native creature she sees. Oh yeah btw Marcy's a shapeshifter. It seems she is now being cared for by a native species of this planet who goes by the name of "Anne". She supposes there are worse names than "Marshmallow" to be called.

Side note: Marcy does not know English and vice versa, there was a week of confusion on Marcy's side until she picked it up because she's just that smart. They normally have translators but y'know crash.

Sashaaaaaaaa~

She is extremely worried because her not-my-girlfriend-what-are-you-talking-about-grime went missing after her most recent solo mission! But look at this, they've managed to find where her ship crashed! Of course, Sasha goes down alone, because who knows what sort of dangers await them and she will not endanger anyone else. She quickly picks up Marcy's trail and soon finds Anne's house, where she sees Marcy chilling in a window living her best life. But Sasha does not know this and of course assumes Marcy has been kidnapped and is being held against her will by Anne. So Sasha stakes out the house for a week or so, waiting for her time to strike. This time comes in ✨The Confrontation✨.

✨The Confrontation✨

Marshmallow (Marcy but she doesnt know that) has finally healed! Anne has been caring for this strange little creature for roughly a month now, and it's time for the release process! Yadada conservation stuff about injured animals and non-releasable but Anne is hopeful that this little animal she's maybeee gotten attached too will be able to survive! So, test run time! She goes outside with Marshmallow, sets her on the grass, sits down, urges her forward. She notices that Marshmallow's attention seems to be stuck on something on the tree line. She looks up and OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT AHH ITS COMING RIGHT FOR ME. (Its an angry sasha lol) She gets tackled to the ground by this thing, and is fighting for her life when Marshmallow starts chittering loudly. The thing stops, looking right at the little animal. It vocalizes back, and eventually gets off Anne, who is scrambling backwards frantically when she really takes in what attacked her. A giant, horned, seemingly humanoid alien, arguing with her [insert animal]. ALIEN! She screams again, and both creatures turn toward her. The bigger one steps forward menacingly, but it is stopped by Marshmallow, who suddenly has wings and ITS ANOTHER ALIEN OH DEAR LORD WHY IS HER [animal] AN ALIEN and Anne promptly faints.

Aftershocks

(aka real meeting)

Anne wakes up in her own bed with a splitting headache. She gets up, drearily noticing that Marshmallow isn't in her normal spot on the bed. She faintly remembers some dream where Marshmallow grew wings. Ha, wouldn't that be funny? She makes her way to the kitchen, ignoring the two aliens on her couch while she grabs an ibuprofen and downs it. Wait- she whirls around to face the two aliens on her couch, one smiling warmly and the other glaring at her. The angry one starts to talk, but she doesn't understand it, and is also in the middle of panicking so says the only thing she cant think of: "So that wasn't a dream." The angry one seems shocked, but the nicer one (the one that used to be Marshmallow, she realizes.) laughs. "Nope. Pleased to make your proper acquaintance, Anne. I'm Marcy, and this is Sasha." Sasha grunts and starts talking again but Marcy elbows her in the side. "Sasha! Be nice! And also she can't understand you, she doesn't have a translator. Here Anne, take this." Anne, who has now moved on to the stage of pure and utter shock and is currently processing that aliens are real takes the device, and follows Marsh- Marcy's instructions to put it on. The second she does, Sasha starts her spiel for the third time. "I'm going to kill you creature you kidnapped my Marcy and-" She doesn't get far before she is silenced by Marcy again. "Nope you are not doing this. Anne, lets get the basics down. Yes, we are not of your planet, I believe your language uses the term "alien." Yes, I am the same animal you have been caring for the past month, thank you for that by the way. Apoligies for not revealing my true nature, but it never seemed quite the right time." Anne nods, going along, waiting to wake up from this second dream.

OKAY WAIT THIS JUST TURNED INTO FANFIC AGAIN DANGIT okay but yeah thats the basics of this au! Anne eventaully joins Marcy and Sasha its a whole thing but this is what I have for now so yeah.

Mitsuru: Nahhhh it’s because I bumped into Anzu-nee-chan and Leo-chan-senpai, and we ended up chatting.

Tomoya: So the one singing on the rollercoaster was Tsukinaga-senpai…?

Mitsuru: That’s right. Leo-chan-senpai lost a competition during ‘Spotlight Time’, and received a punishment to sing while on the rollercoaster. He also had to film it and upload it!

Nazuna: Unnya?! That sounds really hard… Isn’t it difficult to resist the urge to scream while on a rollercoaster?

Hajime: Yeah… It’s fairly easy to go off-tune; not to mention managing your expression! The whole thing even has to be videotaped for repeated public executions… Scary…!

Mitsuru: Not to worry! Leo-chan-senpai looked really happy and energetic!

Hajime: …?

Leo: Ehh~ Anzu, why do you look so constipated?

You’re saying that this is the programme’s punishment segment, but because I’m too happy, it seems as though it became a prize of some sort?

Therefore, I turned the punishment into a prize! This is to be expected!

Hold on! I can feel the inspiration about to burst forth… But I’m really just missing that last little spark…! Seems like I’ll need to go on the rollercoaster again!

You’re asking why I’m holding your hand and dragging you towards the rollercoaster? Well, it’s because I wanna ride it with you! Space travel isn’t fun without a companion by your side!

Anzu’s just about wrapped up the filming work, right? After that, we can use the time to go free and easy ♪

If you like jikook you have probably read one or more of these gorgeous stories before, but I decided to compile a little list of some of my faves in hopes that someone else will read and love them as much as I did, and continue to do so!

Kids From Yesterday | 12k, 1 chp Behind the scars, faded tattoos, heavy eyeliner, and dyed hair, Jungkook and Jimin are little more than gentle lovers surviving in a rugged world. Russian Translation

My Notes: I had to start with this one because it was the first one of theirs that I ever read and I honestly fell in love with it so fast. It is an all-time favourite of mine, hands down one of the best jikook fics out there.

Pandemonium | 38k, 3 chps Growing up, Jungkook was never allowed to go near the circus, his parents wishing to keep him away from the life they lived as teens. But when he sneaks off with his best friend to watch it he finds himself head over heels for the talented aerialist, Park Jimin. Jimin, it would seem, notices Jungkook too. Drawn by the performer’s unnatural beauty, the freshly graduated teen finds himself pulled into the nomadic life of a troupe with secrets darker than he could have ever imagined. Part 1 of Silk

My Notes: I found this fic when scrolling through the jungkook-centric tag (which I totally don’t do regularly). It only had one chapter so far and yet again fell in love with it practically at first sight. I practically jumped for joy every time there was a new update. It is a masterpiece of a story that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

(I Bloom) Just For You | 10k, 1 chp He’s awe-inspiring, lost in the music, his smile brighter than the strobe lights. Jimin aches to join him, to snake his arms around him and hold him close as they dance together. Instead, Jimin wraps a hand around his colorful drink again, abandoning the straw and tipping his head back to chug what remains. There are already at least three alphas vying for his best friend’s attention tonight. What chance does he have? or Jimin’s been in love with his best friend, Jungkook, for as long as they’ve known each other, but he knows Jungkook will never feel the same. Jungkook is out to prove him wrong when his heat starts and Jimin is the only one around to help him.

My Notes: Yet again I found this one scrolling through a lovely tag (omega jungkook) and you probably guess it, I loved it so fast. I was probably an idiot at this point for not realising that yet another one of my all-time favourite jikook stories was by the same authour.

Ballad of a Broken Sea | 17k, 1 chp Jungkook spends most of his life on the seas, running from his past, drowning himself in booze. He hides his scars behind a crisp uniform and pretty smile and convinces himself he's okay with pretending to be the man everyone thinks he is. Until he returns to his home port, where he meets the beautiful new bartender at his usual spot who makes him question everything.

My Notes: So finally, finally, I decided to click on the author's profile and was quite promptly amazed at everything there. There are so many wonderful stories and if you like any on this list you should definitely check out the rest of them. This is the first one I decided to read out of the long list and I don’t know whether it was the time period or my love for pirates or jikook or just everything. Probably the last one to be honest.

Growing Pains | 8k, 1chp Looking back, one could easily measure Jungkook’s emotional growth through the birthday gifts he’s bought Jimin over the years and the feelings each gift conveyed. or A collection of Jimin’s birthday memories with Jungkook, all the way up to present day.

My Notes: A little bit shorter than some of the others on the list (if you call 8k short) but it was such a sweet and lovley story and it wouldn’t be on here if it wasn’t one of my faves. I love watching jikook grow up together.

A Rebel for the Summer | 32k, 5 chps If Jungkook has ever been determined to do anything in his life it’s to get the town rebel and his long-time crush, Park Jimin, to notice him, so he hatches a plan to become a rebel himself. What he doesn’t expect to find is that that leather-clad exterior hides a gentle, marshmallowy interior.

My Notes: So lighthearted, so fluffy, so adorable. So many lovley summer cutness feels. I’m not saying that the other stories can get a bit angsty, I’m just saying that they can be. But it’s okay because that’s one of the things I love so very much about their writing. But this fluff was so freaking good.

flightless | 22k, 1 chp Jungkook was just a stranger hired to plan Jimin’s wedding.

My Notes: Do I even have words for this story? I just... wow. It’s not quite like the other wones, the love I have for each story is never really the same, but this one stands out to me. I just kind of took my breath away. It left me speechless in the best way possible.

Back the Way We Came | 39k, 4 chps Loving Jeon Jungkook was like being swept away in a new hurricane everyday. He was a train wreck waiting to happen and Jimin embraced that. If the chaos that was them ever imploded, they would go down together. It broke him the day Jungkook finally walked away. Years later, it breaks him again when that storm comes crashing back into his life.

My Notes: This one hurt so good. I really do love some top quality angst with a happy ending. To see them break and fall and try and stumble was so cool to see. It got deep and powerful and had some really amazing character discussion and development.

Chase Me, Race Me, Taste Me Series | 71k, 4 works

My Notes: Street racer Jimin, police officer Jungkook and a whole lot of smut. Really what more could you want? I love, love, love this. Such an amazing series that I can’t wait to see more of!
