“no need to keep waiting, the bus isn’t coming.”

you whip your head around, coming face to face with shinyu, your classmate. your mouth opens slightly in shock, eyes narrowing at him. a soft ‘what’ flows out of your mouth in disbelief and when you turn back to look at the bus stop display, the bright yellow words ‘out of service’ flickering.

you groan loudly, throwing your head back, “you’re kidding me…”.

behind you, shinyu snickers, readjusting his backpack as he makes his way over to you. “c’mon yn~ let’s walk together.”

his laugh makes you look at him, eyes softening at the genuine sound. the sky above you two is dark, stars sparkling and making the snow stand out. as he approaches you, you can’t help but notice his drowsy eyes and ruffled hair.

you freeze slightly as he swiftly places his hand on your shoulder, gently squeezing it, a smile on his face. your cheeks turn red and it takes you a few seconds to follow him, taking bigger steps to catch up with him.

shinyu stuffs his hands in his pockets when you reach him, head tilting sideways as he makes eye contact with you. “busy day, class pres’?”

you scoff, swatting at his arm playfully, “stop it! i’m not even class president–”

“but you will be~” he smirks, pushing you with his shoulder in retaliation. “i’ll be your first vote when the elections start.”

a soft smile takes over your face and you have to bite back a laugh at his mischievous tone. you hide your face even deeper in your fluffy scarf, attempting to shield yourself from the cold.

you and shinyu had known each other for a few years now, always ending up in the same class since 7th grade. in your first year of highschool, you two had been thrown into a group project together with three classmates you weren’t fond of, thus relying on each other. since that day, you’ve been quite close, a lovely friendship blossoming.

that’s also when you realized what you felt for your classmate was more than friendship– not that you’d ever tell him.

it also helped that you two lived in the same neighborhood, your houses a five-minute walk from each other.

even if you’d never purposefully bring up your growing feelings for your friend and classmate, you allowed yourself to indulge in moments like these, where you two were alone, finding comfort in each other’s presence– especially after a stressful day.

shinyu was never the type of person to show he was feeling down but you pride yourself in knowing him quite well, so it wasn’t really difficult to notice when he felt uneasy and when he needed a break.

and when it was a bad day, it wasn’t unusual for the both of you to walk home together, deciding to skip the bus and take a detour through the park during spring.

now though, with snow covering the streets and roofs, the cold wind biting at your skin, you did somewhat miss the bus.

a sigh brings you back to earth and you glance up at shinyu, eyes expressing worry.

“it’s so cold..”, you watch as shinyu blows out air, a cloud of steam forming around you two, “but i don’t think i really mind– winter’s my favorite season.”

you look down at the ground, kicking little pebbles away with your shoes, the snow crunching under your soles. “yeah, i know.” you mutter, an airy chuckle following.

you don’t even realize what you’ve said until he turns to you, head tilted in confusion and surprise, “you do?”

your eyes meet shinyu’s for a flicker of a second before you pull your gaze away, blushing. “uh, yeah.. i-” you cough lightly, trying to hide your embarrassment as you tug at one end of your scarf, “i remember. it was one of your three fun facts about yourself on the first day of class. you said you used to lick the snow off the car windows as a kid..”

shinyu’s eyes are still on you, beaming, his footsteps matching yours. “you remember that? that was months ago!”

your face grows hot at his gaze and you can’t help but smile at his joy, the words slipping out before you can stop them. “i guess it’s easy to remember things when it comes to you.”

this time, shinyu is the one casting his eyes downward, a rosy hue taking over his cheeks. he sniffles due to the cold, his nose slightly red and you almost let a giggle escape at the sight.

when you see shinyu shiver under his puffer jacket, stuffing his hands further into his pockets, you take pity.

swiftly, you unwrap your scarf from around your neck, catching the ends of it so they don’t sweep the ground. “if winter really is your favorite season..” you stop in your tracks, grabbing his elbow gently and pulling him a step back, confusing him.

it’s only when you unfold the scarf in your arms and stand on your tippy-toes that he realizes what you’re doing, eyes widening as the soft fabric tickles his neck. mouth agape and letting out little puffs of air, he watches you stretch your arms to adjust your scarf around him, pulling at the collar of his puffer jacket.

“...then you’d know how to cover up to not get cold, you fool.”

your words flow through his ears like a melody but he doesn’t answer, still stunned at your caring gesture, only watching your lips move, your favorite pink-ish lip gloss shimmering under the streetlights.

it’s only after you pull away and continue on your walk that he’s able to get out of his awestruck state, jogging to join you again.

he buries his hands in his pockets again and almost chokes on his own tongue twice trying to thank you, ending up a stuttering mess, “t-thank you yn..”

you just nod with a smile, content that he isn’t shivering as much anymore but he glances over to you, worried that you’d grow cold instead.

after a minute or so (shinyu thinks, because he’s still a bit dazed, unaware of how much time has passed since you started to walk together), you tilt your head to his side, asking why he’s looking at you like that, eyes twinkling.

again, he stutters, trying to change topics. “y-you know.. brown is my favorite color.”

“really? well, it suits you.”

a breathy gasp leaves his mouth and he has to look up at the sky for a moment to calm down his rapidly beating heart, not expecting your answer. on the contrary, you look straight down at the ground, counting the bricks while trying to hide your reddened cheeks.

the silence surrounding you isn’t awkward or tense though, simply giving you a peaceful feeling– which you’re grateful for.

after a loud gush of wind, shinyu speaks up, his tone candid, “i also know your favorite season, by the way,” and before you can answer, he continues, stumbling over his words, “spring. spring is your favorite season because, uhm.. you used to live next to a flower field and your window had a view of it–”

you directly gape up at him, eyes blinking as if in slow-motion as he continues, your footsteps echoing through the empty street.

“you.. you like the color duck blue because of its name. and your favorite subject is history and art b-but–” he clears his throat, hiding his lower face in your scarf as he can just feel your gaze on him, “but you're suspiciously good at dodgeball in PE class, like really good.”

you grin from ear to ear, stunned, a loud laugh leaving you as you cover your mouth in disbelief. it takes you a few seconds to calm down and lower your voice, still shocked, and shinyu can only look at you, silently taking great pleasure in your reaction.

you snicker again, shaking your head. “there’s no way… that’s impressive–!” you playfully slap his arm and he doesn’t resist it. “i didn’t know you kept tabs on me~”

shinyu bites the inside of his cheek but replies evenly playful, tone teasing. “if only you knew~..“

you lean even more into this unexpected but welcome dynamic, purposefully matching your footsteps with his and piping up. “you’re good at dodgeball too– everytime we’re on the same team, we win!”

shinyu scoffs, brushing your statement off, a gentle smile covering his face. “that’s just because we make a good duo.”

finally, you both spot your favorite neighborhood convenience store from a few hundred feet away and you perk up instantly at the thought of being able to heat up and rest soon. shinyu seems to have the same idea as he speeds up a bit, puffing out air as he sighs out in relief.

suddenly he grabs your hand, holding onto your wrist gently before he intertwines his fingers with yours, thumb stroking against your soft skin as he buries both your hands in his jacket pocket, baffling you. “c’mon, we’re almost there. let’s grab something warm to drink before going home~.”

with a last look your way, one filled with adoration and satisfaction, he tightens his grip on your hand in his pocket, pulling you along with him, the flickering sign of the convenience store calling your names.

eventually, you will tell shinyu about your feelings for him. maybe.

Junghwan had been thinking of it for weeks now. Whenever he tried to get his mind off of it, it only backfired. “It” was, of course, your lips. Junghwan swore you were doing it on purpose, putting on the prettiest lip glosses and lip tints just to tempt him. They only made your lips seem all the more inviting.

But the problem was, you had only been dating for a few weeks. Sure, you had been friends for years and were more comfortable with each other than anyone else, but you both wanted to take it slow. Junghwan would hate to rush something as important as your first kiss.

He’d never kissed anyone before, and the thought of it made him hot in the face. He was sure he was crazy for thinking about it so much. Why was he so down bad for you?

You were already like an addiction to him. Just seeing you made his day a million times better— he just knew that the second he tasted your lips, there would be no going back. He had always been shier than you, more reserved and quiet. That was how you became friends in the first place; you basically adopted him as your friend. He would forever be grateful to you for that. Now that you were both in college and dating, things were quite different. He finally had friends, a girlfriend, and was more confident than ever before.

But that didn’t change the fact that you still made him shy. Thinking about you caused butterflies to swarm in his stomach and his heart to melt right out of his chest. You meant so much to him, and in some ways, he was deathly afraid of messing something up. If he started moving too fast, would that scare you? 

The lingering doubts stopped him from making a move to kiss you already, although there had been several times he had come incredibly close to it. During one movie night, he could’ve sworn you started to lean in. Another occasion when he had walked you home, you had stalled at your doorstep, as if waiting for him to do something. But Junghwan was still terrified of messing up… so he took the safe option.

“Is there something… wrong? With me?” You asked, deciding to finally address something that had been bothering you for a while. 

You had been dating Junghwan for almost 2 months now, and he still hadn’t kissed you. Despite your attempts to silently let him know that you were okay with it; leaning in when the timing felt right, picking romance movies with obvious kiss scenes, even bringing it up in conversation at times. Nothing seemed to be working, though, and you were starting to think that maybe he didn’t want to kiss you at all.

“No. You’re perfect, why would you think that?” Junghwan’s answer came so quick and sure, like he didn’t even have to think about it. If he was so convinced about it, then why hadn’t he made a move yet?

“We’ve been dating for almost 2 months now…” Junghwan looked at you expectantly, waiting for you to continue. You took a breath, “We still haven’t kissed yet. Is there something… unattractive about me? Do you not want to? Was I the only one constantly thinking about it?”

Your boyfriend blinked, stunned by your question. Of all the things he expected you to bring up, it definitely wasn’t this. He had never even considered that what he thought of as taking the ‘safe option’ in order to assure he didn’t make you uncomfortable, was causing doubts in your mind about his affection for you. No wonder he felt like he was messing up so badly.

You could instantly forgive him for all the weeks of doubting and overthinking he had put you through, finding him incredibly endearing as he tried to fix the mess he had made. You couldn’t help but focus on his lips as the words started to spill out. Those same lips that you had been so fixated on for weeks, longing to taste for so long. 

It was like he was purposefully testing you every time he licked them or subconsciously nibbled on them. They always looked so incredibly soft and plush. Now that you were finally feeling them under yours, you could only describe the feeling as euphoric. It was everything you could’ve hoped for— even better than you could’ve imagined, in fact.

He gasped in surprise when you cut his words off, but his eyes were quick to flutter shut at the feeling of your lips. Junghwan had been originally worried that the kiss might be awkward, that his rhythm would be wrong, or that he would go too fast or too slow. But you found him perfect. 

He was slow. He was gentle and soft and caring, kissing you as if any slight amount of pressure too much would break you. And you loved it. It felt safe. Junghwan always made you feel that way, like nothing about him could ever scare you. He would always go exactly at your pace, making sure you were comfortable no matter what. He never overstepped, never expected anything overwhelming from you. Even as he kissed you, his lips portrayed the same feeling. you didn’t hear him at first. the sound of your own thoughts, heavy and cacophonic successfully drowning out everything else. the only thing you had wanted was to get home as soon as possible, to be away from the weight of the tiring day.

but then, a surprisingly strong grip on your wrist causes your movements to stop and in one swift motion, you’re all but pulled back, ending up face to face with him.

“i’m talking to you.”

his intense gaze is fixed on yours and you find yourself almost incapable of breaking away. before you can even begin to muster up some sort of a defense, make some kind of excuse if nothing else, he speaks up. 

“you’ve been ignoring me. blowing me off whenever i tried to say something to you. d'you really forget how long we’ve been friends for? of course i noticed how stressed you’ve been these days. i ... i don’t know what it is exactly that’s troubling you but please, please let me help.”

to be fair, you hadn’t meant for it to get this bad. it had been easy enough to brush questions off at first, to wave away concerns with a vague laugh. you knew lying to him was out of question though. he knew you too well. so, fine, yes, maybe you were avoiding him.

‘Damn it where’s my notebook?’ You thought to yourself as you’re rummaging your locker. You’re just an average student, with small circle of friends and average scores, not involved in any of the school drama. You’d like think that you’re living a peaceful life in school….besides the assignments and studies that the teacher gives you. It’s their job though so you can’t really blame them.

Finally after looking at your locker for a while, you finally found your notebook. You grabbed it and closed your locker, immediately walking away to go to your class. You didn’t expect to bumped into something after stepping away from the locker though, which results with you accidentally dropping your book. You looked up to see that you didn’t bump into something but someone. And you certainly didn’t expect to be face-to-face with the most popular boy in the whole school, Shinyu.

“Ah..sorry, I didn’t see you there.” You apologized, slightly bowing to him and then going to reach for your book on the floor but he beats you to it. He bended down and grabbed the book, lightly patted your book to remove the dust.

“I’m sorry too, I shouldn’t have stood that close to you.” He replied sheepishly, holding the book out for you. You take the book from his hands and look at his face. You never really paid attention to a lot of people that’s not close with you, but you didn’t expect that this school has such a handsome boy wandering around.

“I’m kidding. Sigh I really want that to happen to me too y’know? I want to bump into handsome people too. Maybe someone like Youngjae? He seems so mature and charming.” F/n sighed dreamily. You can’t help but rolled your eyes at your friend while laughing.

Youngjae is also from the same group as Shinyu. Their group consist of six people, Shinyu as the reliable one, Dohoon as the playful one, Youngjae as the responsible one, Hanjin known as the nicest boy, Jihoon being the social butterfly of the group, and Kyungmin who is very energetic.

“Ok stop daydreaming now, the teacher is here already.” You snapped her out of her daydream as the teacher walk inside the classroom to start the lesson.

“Finally it’s break time. I’m starving.” F/n said, stretching her arms.

“Yeah let’s hurry before the line gets too long.” You then run to the canteen and buy lunch. You walk toward an empty table and start eating while talking to each other. All of a sudden, everyone around starts to look at the same direction and whispering to each other. You and F/n also got curious and try to look at what everyone is looking at.

There you can see Shinyu and his friends walking to the canteen. Their effects are no joke, even their mere presence can make people stop and admire them. Your friend shot you a teasing look, with you just shaking your head and continue eating. You heard footsteps coming towards your direction but you shrug it off, thinking someone is just passing by, until you hear someone clear their throat.

“Ahem…excuse me. There’s no empty table left so can we sit with you guys?” Someone asked. You and your friend look at the newcomers, suprised to see Shinyu and the others in front of you. F/n stutters for a bit before she managed to say yes. Now, you’re sitting between Shinyu and Hanjin with F/n in front of you between Youngjae and Jihoon. Kyungmin sits next to Shinyu while Dohoon sits next to Youngjae.

“Thank you for letting us sit here. Otherwise, we might have to sit on the floor instead. Jihoon joked, looking at you and F/n. You laughed, saying it’s no problem. As you guys eat, you can’t help but notice how Shinyu sometimes looks at you. You hope it’s not because of earlier.

“Hey aren’t you the girl from earlier?”

“Hahaha hyung, your ears are red. Relax, it happens to anyone don’t let it bother you that much.” Dohoon said. They then eat and make a joke every now and then, and they sometimes include you and F/n too. It seems that they are already comfortable with you guys.

Youngjae, as responsible as ever, looks at his phone and reminded you all, “It’s almost time for the next class. We need to go now if we don’t want to be late.” You all cleaned the table and about to go to your separate ways to your own classroom. Unfortunately, F/n suddenly feels sick and has to go to the infirmary. You offered to accompany her but she insisted that she can go alone. Youngjae offered to go to the infirmary with her although she refused at first, he also insisted and ended up going together.

Shinyu walked up to you hesitantly, looking anywhere but you. “Uh…do you want me to walk you to your class? You know, since your friend seems to be sick and won’t be able to come to class with you.” He offered. You wanted to refused at first, really don’t want to bother him, but Hanjin suddenly popped out.

“Just let him walk you to class, otherwise he’s going to be sulking for the rest of the day.” Shinyu turned to Hanjin and playfully hit him. You can’t help but find the situation cute. You decided to take his offer and now you’re walking together to your class. It was a little awkward because none of you were talking so you were about to open a conversation when he once again beats you to it.

“I just realized that I never got your name. May I know your name please?” He asked. You looked at him, realizing that you know him but he obviously doesn’t know you since you’re not as well known as him.

“Oh my name is Y/n.” You introduced yourself. He nodded and proceeds to ask more questions about you, with you answering and also asking something about him in return. It doesn’t take long for you guys to reach your classroom. You turned to him to let him know that this is your class.

“Alright, I’ll see you around then.” He started to walk away but stopped abruptly. You looked at him confused when he turned to you again. He walked up to you again and he looks nervous.

“Um…Can I…can I have your number? It’s fine if you don’t because we technically just got to know each other today and-“ before he can continue to ramble you held out your hand to him. He looks at your hand and then at you in confusion until it clicked and he hurriedly went to grab his phone from his pocket. He gave you his phone and you put your number in his contacts. You returned his phone to him and he looks at his screen.

“Thank you. I’ll add you to our group chat later. Oh and you can give me your friend’s phone number too so I can also add her to the group chat. Anyways I think I should go now. I’ll see you later, bye.” He then ran off to his class.

“Wow they’re actually really fun.” F/n said. You can’t help but agree with her. After texting with the boys and laughing at some of their responses, you and F/n grabbed your bags and leave the classroom as school is over already. F/n left first since she needed to go somewhere after school with her family while you need to put your stuff in your locker first. You were just done putting away your stuff when someone tapped your shoulder. You looked to see Shinyu, who is now smiling at you shyly.

“Hi, is your friend not with you?” He asked, looking around to see if he can spot F/n.

“No she left already. I needed to put my stuff in the locker first before leaving.” You answered him, closing the locker.

“I see…um…” he tries to say something but seems hesitant. You wait patiently for him, wondering what he wants to talk about. After taking a deep breath, he looks at you again with a slightly red face.

“Can I walk you home?”

You blinked, processing what he just said. After it clicked, you replied, “Huh? I mean I don’t want to bother you. You must be tired after school so-“

This makes you feel warm, appreciating his efforts to make you comfortable. As you walk, you continued your conversation from earlier and get to know each other better. For example, you now know that he has siblings and he’s the youngest, his hobby is drawing, etc. Eventually you reach your house, not even aware that you’ve walked so far already.

“This is my house. Thank you for walking me home Shinyu.” You thanked him again. “Be sure to text me once you’re home ok? Be safe.”

Now if you don’t apologize to her right now I’m going to report you to the teachers.” He threatened, glaring at the girls. You have to admit he looks intimidating right now. He then kneels down to you to check for any injuries, glaring at the girls when he hears no apology. They flinched, immediately said sorry and ran away. He then proceeds to give every student who gathers around them a disappointed look.

“You all are no better. Why are you just watching when someone is being hurt? I hope you all are disappointed in yourselves. Shame on you all for allowing this kind of behavior to happen.” They all look guilty as they start to walk away. After that, he gives you his attention again.

“Are you ok? I’m sorry for not being here earlier. Let’s get you to the infirmary.” He said softly, suddenly lifting you up bridal style. You yelped in surprised, arms immediately warped around his neck.

“S-Shinyu-I can walk by my own-“ you tried to get him to put you down but he refused. After arriving at the infirmary, the nurse was nowhere to be seen, so he puts you on the infirmary bed gently and takes it upon himself to help with your injuries.

None of you are saying anything as he treats your wounds until you decided to speak.

“I’m sorry for troubling you. I didn’t expect-“

“Don’t apologize.” He suddenly said. You looked at him. His eyebrows are furrowed and he looks troubled.

shinyu would have a mission from the second he stepped foot on the sand: to be the best looking couple. you had bought matching swimsuits in the past and your boyfriend is excited to finally be able to wear them. he sets up a comfy beach blanket with an umbrella, making sure his princess has the perfect spot to lie down. he’s constantly glaring down any other men who dare to even look in your general direction and admiring how pretty you look matching with him. he’d take a million photos to save the memory.

dohoon would immediately spot the beach volleyball net and beeline towards it like a cartoon character. he's so excited to show off his athletic skills, and also to beat the other couple who agree to play against you two. he's so cocky and confident at the beginning, boasting about how perfect his teamwork is with you. but he's painfully proven wrong almost immediately as he constantly goes for the ball that you had already claimed and ends up tripping over you many times. you have to give him a lot of kisses afterwards to cheer him up after your embarrassing loss.

youngjae would find a few pieces of driftwood where you were setting up and start building with them without any real idea of where it was going to lead. when you find the start to his little project, you suggest that he build a hut with it, and your boyfriend lights up at the idea. so you start your search for the best sized pieces of wood for him to assemble. he's so excited when it’s finished, and proclaims it as your first home together (even though it can barely fit a 10 year old’s body, much less 2 adults). 

hanjin would be so mesmerized when you showed him a cool conch shell you found on the shoreline. he joins in with you, of course, and you both start searching for the best shells, wading deeper and deeper into the water for a better sample size. you don't care that you both end up getting soaked, because you end up with a good-sized collection of shells. you start sorting them into different categories based on shape and colour, and hanjin loves every second of it. not only is he proud of how many you collected, but he stashes away the prettiest one in his back pocket to make into a necklace for you later.

jihoon would challenge you to a sandcastle building competition and be brutal trying to win no matter what. you’re both competitive and it all starts out when you get a cheating head start running for the shoreline. he steals your bucket of water and tools after that, constantly provoking you until you smash his sandcastle in retaliation. the squabble would end up with you underneath him, sand all over both of your swimsuits and hair. but he still kisses you nonetheless (and makes sure that you know he still won since you blatantly cheated).

kyungmin would pack a picnic to eat on the beach and carefully feed you. you can’t protest him since you know it’s his love language. he just loves doting on you and making sure you eat well— admiring how pretty you look against the backdrop of the ocean and clear sky. he forgot to bring any tools to make sandcastles, so he tries to substitute by digging out the wet sand from the shoreline and bringing it back to a safer distance. but it doesn't work very well and in the end he's soaked from the waist down with nothing but a lump of wet sand to show for it.
