#there's been a lot of ''shadowbanning isnt real'' posts but no it is very much real but it's not targeted its just. seemingly random KJFHDG#FIVE people i know have randomly been hidden from notes/search/dms/etc without changing any blog settings#two of them emailed and had it fixed ages later and three are still hidden#two of them have been hidden since i met them in 2019 😭#you cant see their notes in your notes at all and to see them you need to go DIRECTLY to their blog#if their post gets reblogged on ur dash tho then you can see them. and you can dm them but again you have to do it from their blog#they dont show up as a ''send this post to this blog'' suggestion#i have asked all of them and none of them had those ''hide from results'' things turned on. they werent marked sensitive. etc etc#it's so weird man 😭#chat

On the verge of doing a deep dive compare and contrast between both Wicked and Evita being adapted for films because the parallels are RIGHT THERE. In this essay I will
#that same twenty year gap between the shows and the films though#STARTS WITH A DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT OF A MORALLY AMBIGUOUS PROTAGONIST#(i joke. the stage/film version of wicked really isn't even a little bit morally ambiguous#aaand the many many diplomatic negotiations with both Argentina and madonna about preserving Eva's image)#something something Glinda in the second half of Wicked channeling expensively dressed blonde political figurehead#literally the only two musical soundtracks i know inside out#but hilariously i imprinted on the film of Evita at an impressionable age and the show didn't get a west end revival for another decade#ironically that was 2006 when i also saw Wicked for the first time#more importantly the film of evita is based on the concept album rather than the show (and later productions use some film inspired changes)#and wicked the film moves even further away from the original book than the show does#i just have a lot of thoughts okay#and i really do have a terrible fondness for the heightened sepia nostalgia visuals of Evita it's a genuinely beautiful film#alan parker knows his shit#is it ~good~? i mean idk that that's quantifiable#i find it more watchable than the 2006 show revival#(also. also. Antonio Banderas. that is all.)#i think it uses screen space and the hinted at spaces beyond the stage much better than Wicked does in the film version#also? Evita is just allowed to be consistently snarky (because Che) and they kinda... stripped some of the snark from Wicked for the film.#i remain baffled by Choices.#(my new favourite Evita trivia is that both Meryl Streep and Michelle Pfeiffer were signed to star at various points and the CHOICES)

at this point I don't even know if tag fragmentation in the general russian holmes space is worth addressing. a few years ago I successfully kept the ancient customs intact because I wrote a post so deranged and pretentious it displeased people into doing what I wanted but nowadays what's the point in making a grand return of being terminally online if yall kinda right
#history: in the ice age the soviet series were exclusively russian sherlock holmes#the 2013 show is about to appear under a surprisingly generic title of Sherlock Holmes that is also russian#the contemporaries can't come up with anything better than naming it the new russian holmes#it is a decade later#soon it will be 11 years of nrh being *new*#and russian sh keeps dying out in favour of soviet sh#tag fragmentation occurs where the historic russian sh name with almost 15 years of tumblr history gets shafted in favour of soviet sh#a relatively new tag nowhere near of the russian sh legacy#as someone who actually scrolled it all the way back to the very beginning and yes to the first posts of circa 2010/2011#you can guess why I felt strongly about it since you are just creating an issue that never was and also making a false impression#of how sparsely populated soviet sh is while all this time it was just a secondary but also straight up unused tag#the same thing having two tags with totally different content bc of tag fragmentation is quite annoying#but it is now the modern age and idk if you can even go that deep into any tag anymore with how the search function doesn't work#and who could be wrong. russian sh Is soviet. nrh Is new. and nrh will never change and mix with the russian sh search forever.#plus what is the issue. russian sh gets one post a week and nrh gets one every half a year. the annoyance exists to me only.#do we assemble a council and grant both shows new unique tags and resolve the mistakes of our ancestors#while erasing 10+ years of history behind their current tags in the process thus basically wiping the fandom clean#or do we just live with it while occasionally shrugging at how this all happened#I thought and fought to keep it the way it was because adding to a search that goes back to 2010 is what it's all about o7#but nowadays truly. everyone else is technically right. what's the point

Was having a sick day today and decided what better time to do absolutely nothing else but lie in bed and finally begin arc 2 of the wwwo...
And my god.
I can't think of a single work of cinema, or art, or literature, or ANYTHING that has struck me as fiercely as Ame's memories with Grandmother Ren have. I don't have the mind today to even begin to unravel all the little threads of love and care and- and whatever word encapsulates the kind of softness that comes from understanding something with your entire being- that you can feel littered throughout the tapestry of that sequence. And I don't think I ever will. I don't think I'll ever find words that live up to my love for that whole deal. All I can muster is this extremely ineloquent:
Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. Fucking incredible showstopping performance from Brennan and Erika, holy mother of fuck.

actually I am going to talk about jamie not being able to shoot the zombie in the age of ambition like. he's holding a gun. he's faced with something which is human-shaped but no longer a human, which is actively posing a threat to him and his friends. and he just freezes. he can't do anything.
and we never see jamie shying away from combat with non-human/non-humanoid enemies. he's happy enough to destroy the quarks, for instance. and he'll get into fights with humans/humanoid beings if it's non-lethal. but he actively turns down weapons when he gets into a fight with one of the gonds. the most we ever see him do is swordfight with trask at the end of the highlanders. and even there, he doesn't actively /kill/ - he pushes trask overboard. clearly that's not a death sentence, seeing as ben had already survived the same swim back to shore. and if trask does end up dying? jamie won't necessarily know about it. he's not directly responsible.
so I just think. jamie, who never killed anyone in the war. jamie, who's a piper, who's a musician rather than a soldier. he's not unable to fight, because he duels trask, and he's not afraid to threaten people, because he holds two and ben and polly at knifepoint. he's not naive, because he stands at the window and watches alexander die. but he's never killed anyone himself. jamie, who's consumed with survivor's guilt, always wondering if he should have done more, if his cowardice ever condemned someone else to death - but also always knowing that he could never have done it, being sickened by the part of him that feels guilty for having no blood on his hands.
jamie, who looks into the eyes of something that's not even human anymore, and can't look away, and can't pull the trigger.
and what does that do to him, then? months, maybe a year after he's left his war behind? he stands there with a weapon in his hands and he can't bring himself to defend two of the people he loves most in the world. victoria has to grab the gun out of his hands and do it for him. this young girl who he's fiercely protective of has to shoot someone, all because he can't. there's blood on her hands, now, and none on his. he wishes he could have been the one to take that shot, to carry that burden for her, and even then he can't help but hate himself for wishing. he's trapped there forever. the feeling goes round and round in circles and it never ever goes away.
#second doctor#hi i'm so normal about him <3#you could definitely also swing it as jamie having killed people in the war & being unable to stomach doing it again!#this is just my interpretation#i'm also aware much of this is down to. this is a family show we can't kill humanoid characters ahfjshfjd#however. have you considered i love to overthink about james robert mccrimmon <3#anyway i genuinely think jamie has a massive influence on the doctor's morality and desire to avoid killing#throughout all their lives really#because one and two are so much more. relaxed about that ig. than later doctors.#whereas jamie is. this.#like that whole bit in the novelisation of the abominable snowmen#where he talks the monks down from killing songsen by saying there's been enough bloodshed#that's something that the doctor could have done. will do so many times over.#i just think that every time a later doctor does something like that. there's a little bit of jamie in there.#a little bit of someone very traumatised who they loved very much#& like jamie's refusal to shoot in the age of ambition. the doctor's pacifism can sometimes veer into unhelpful extremes#especially later. maybe when their memory of jamie gets more warped and distant idk.#does this even make sense idk it's 1:30am and i don't have my glasses on

ok while we’re on the subject of the merman ep you’re gonna get some me lore
soooo lil fun (? not really) fact about me is that right before I had this blog, I had another insane obsession blog which was for team starkid (who for those who don’t know are like..an indie musical theatre group (im going somewhere Hilda-related with this I promise)) anyway in the couple years before Hilda aired I was deeply obsessed with them, had a decently popular blog in the fandom with like 2k followers, had posters on my walls, dragged my family to Ireland one time so I could see them irl etc…so that was a whole obsession that took over a whole chunk of my life. It’s hard to quantify just how deeply attached to it I was and how much it and the fandom was in my life (i also made 2 rly amazing friends in that fandom who I still have now :> )
anyway so the songwriters for Starkid’s most famous musical (Twisted) were AJ Holmes and Kaley McMahon so they’re iconic in the starkid lore. AJ Holmes was also a key player in the early starkid days and is right there behind the piano in like the 360p recording of their very first show. there was a point where I knew all the songs written by these two and listened to them on repeat constantly etc etc. anyway I promptly forgot all of this when the obsession faded and I moved on with my life/immediately got obsessed with something else (Hilda). like that old obsession is long dead and I haven’t thought about starkid in literally years or have any idea what theyre doing now
anyway I bring this up because
please imagine how I sat down to watch The Laughing Merman for the first time and lost my fucking mind
#I just think it’s neat!!!! that the two things I’ve had major obsessions with for years shared songwriters#And that the coolest songwriting duo graced this show#love that AJ Holmes specifically is following my obsessions around#like thats my BOY!! i was singing along to his songs at age 11 (it took a few years for the obsession brainrot to return and take hold)#also it’s nice to see that these two are still doing their thing 10 yrs later!!!#YES I am aware no one will care abt this except me but it’s my blog so like. does it drive anyone else insane that colin makes multiple references to being alive before the 1920s, which he should have no memory of, based on the entire arcs of s3 and 4.
#ooc.#we did two entire seasons based around the idea that he “died” at 100 years old/didn't know anything about his life prior#and he got his memories back because of his journals but those journals couldn't have contained information from before the 1920s#because if they did then colin would have known about it BEFORE he “died” since he was clearly using that room for his journaling#sorry his and laszlo's ages/timelines are all kinds of fucked up and mostly because of the last two seasons#like laszlo's dad is dressed in regency era clothing#and pretty much all the references he makes would have required laszlo to be a human during the mid-late 1800s#or later even#no one googled shit writing this show and it drives me bonkers#laszlo is basically between the ages of 150 and 450#i cannot reconcile this gap in my head#he should probably be on the younger end of this because we know nadja is 400-500#and she was a vampire for at least 200 years before meeting laszlo#so he should be around 200 or less#one thing about me is i'm obsessed with a cohesive timeline

Finally got the dashboard update and I thought it's not going to be a big deal for me, but man, it is fugly. And I don't even know how to use it. :/
Luckily there are people out there who are always willing to clean up after staff's mistakes, so... thank you for that. <3
The only good change that just recently came out of this was the private messaging box update. Even that took them years to change it. :/
#personal#it's not perfect but close enough#the fact that we've had to use xkit and other stuff for ages now because staff does these things that nobody wants#or even asks for#and then doesn't fix them until one or two eternities later#i still remember when they changed the gif sizes in '14 and then gifs started showing up blurry on everyone's dashboards#or then their blogs (depending on which sizing you used)#and it literally took them *years*. two or three i can't even remember. to finally fix that#and i messaged them several times about it
