Update on ants:

Sprayed my shaggy rug with vinegar and water mix the other day, didnt seem to do anything. I've now folded it up and placed it in the living room for now. There were a few ants under the rug, since its in front of my bed I decided to finally move my drawers and move the shit and boxes I have under it.

1. Found dry cat vomit under my bed, ty Kaneki

2. There were a good amount of ants under my bed so I squashed them and sprayed most of the floor under it with the vinegar mix.

So we'll see what happens next.

It means showing up, taking to fans, meeting them and signing for them, talking to them telling them about his projects, like most idols do when they meet their fans on the streets or in Cafés they chat and exchange info and take pics and sign autographes, also sending pics, doing lives, making a youtube channel or Vlive and posting his making film of his album and preparation,doing vlogs etc.. idols are self-Promoting themselves recently didn't you see it became a trend. All idols have their own channel on YouTube or Vlive, IG or Twitter accounts in which they promote their projects. And even go on variety shows to promote. Ksoo can at least make an iG to promote himself or Twitter !🤷🏻‍♀️ Don't tell me SM won't let him make one coz they wanna sabotage him 🤦🏻‍♀️ HE DOESN'T WANT TO. haikyuu!! music idol au (karasuno ver.)

at long last here it is!! also most of this is based on my knowledge about kpop groups and the industry (as a kpop fan) but i made a lot of tweaks and i’m basically imagining this in a world where the kpop industry wasn’t so hard on its idols and churning out commodities. but yeah! this is going to be the first part of a series so stay tuned for more! also this is p long because i added hc’s for kiyoko and yachi >~<

okay so in my head karasuno (or KRSN im sorry im bad at coming up with names) is like one of those really large groups that hav sub-groups kinda like NCT

they're from a fairly small entertainment company called umm KS Entertainment (im sorry im bad at names hnghn pt. 2)

its headed by ukai who's also like a really awesome choreographer and takeda who's like YG if YG had an exact opposite really kind twin who actually values their idols

(sorry im really salty)

takeda is honestly the sweetest, he's responsible for scouting and judging auditions

he'll basically let anyone who appears to put their all in pass the audition

he also likes to take care of all the trainees and make sure ukai hasn't made them dance to death

production crew are: ennoshita, kinoshita, and narita

kinoshita's like responsible for planning the concepts for every comeback

sometimes he thinks of really wild ones and ukai's jus like whoa there lets tone it down a bit

narita tag-teams with kinoshita by being karasuno's amazing stylist

his favorite person to style is suga but dont tell anyone that

and lastly we have ennoshita who singlehandedly produces every track on every album

he's also a really good vocal coach

and he's very tired because he's the producer and he also has to deal with tanaka and noya knocking on his door every five minutes

subgroup (night) KRSN-N

consists of: daichi, suga, asahi, noya, and tanaka

ok so karasuno has basically two main types of concepts: night (which is more like rugged and bad boy) and day (which is more boy-next-door and sweet)

the night subgroup has like a very strong rap line consisting of daichi, noya, and tanaka while for vocals we have suga and asahi

daichi is their leader ofc

he, suga, and asahi were in the same batch of trainees and had to (survive) live with each other for quite a while

his rap skills are really consistent and he has really good flow. also tends to start off their songs

his dancing skills are also impressive and basically just a great all-around guy

he's also really stressed from managing his group members esp because they're all children

asahi is one of their only two vocalists but he also has some good skills with music production and likes to work with ennoshita

he has a really deep but mellow voice

really shy when it comes to being onstage and meeting fans but he has the sweetest smile

tanaka is part of their dance line because boy can he bust out the moves

doesn't mind performing without a shirt. kinoshita has styled with him just wearing a jacket most of the time

his stage presence is just woah

the kind of performer who'd really get up close and personal with cameras and also people's phones

everything about him screams bad boy except for when he's really sweet in fansigns

noya is like their lightning-fast rapper who always comes in during the bridge

takeda heard him rap for barely a minute and quickly signed him in

more often than not enters the stage while piggybacking tanaka or asahi

also an amazing dancer who does all the gravity defying flips and jumps

he was invited more than once to collab with other artists

he and tanaka are trainee buddies and were inseparable ever since they ran into each other naked in the shower room

now for suga

he's like main visuals also main vocals also main dancer

was talented ever since he sprouted from the womb

he actually didn't audition his mom posted a video of him covering 'euphoria' by jungkook which takeda happened to come across

his voice is very high and he often harmonizes with asahi during the chorus

also tends to be really affectionate with daichi onstage and everywhere basically

so many 'daisuga being karasuno's parents for 15 mins' videos

subgroup (day) KRSN - D

NOW WE HAVE THE CHILDREN CHILDREN

okay so these guys have been together since their trainee years and basically had to live in the same room

which was like chaotic because they were always fighting and only yamaguchi knew how to do laundry so everyone was trying to be his friend

until daichi and takeda gave them a little pep talk so they don't hate each other so much now

first up we have yamaguchi who is basically jus very boy-next-door and also the unofficial leader of the group

he has an amazing voice and can hit the highest notes and he has a tendency to wink at the cameras

main vocalist and visuals

his fans love him because he's just so sweet

sometimes daichi comes in to check on how he's doing and treats him to a meal

he likes to check on other members during live shows

looks stunning in white suits also the fans made a petition for him to grow out his hair and now his hair is long

he and tsukishima have both dreamed of becoming idols and auditioned together

tsukishima's the main (only) rapper of the group

my brain: hnGhh rapper tsukki nskdkssm

he had to work on his stage presence but when he finally Got It he is such a master at it

also had to work on his dancing because he looked like a wiggling beanpole at first

most of his lines are actually written by him esp because he didn't want to say anything that felt embarassing for him and ukai was like 'why dont u write ur songs then?' and he's like 'mAYBE I WILL'

hinata's our other main vocalist, also main visuals and main dancer

his voice is p ordinary but whats great about him is that he's able to keep it consistent while busting out the hardest moves

personally learned a lot of his dancing from noya and tanaka

also he's always in the center because he's short and he looks adorable

he can nail the high notes too btw

he's the kind of idol who has the most random and funniest videos on twitter

kageyama's like their genius maknae

he had been training for such a long time and he actually wanted to be booked for another entertainment company but was rejected (hmm i wonder which company this was ??)

but he was a fan after seeing suga practicing when he toured the company and decided to join KRSN

he's in the vocal line as well and also main dancer

his voice is a lot lower so he harmonizes with yamaguchi and hinata

he and hinata were very competitive when it came to dancing during their trainee days

but they balance each other out pretty well and like to choreograph dance breaks together

super shy around fans and fansigns

most of the pics of him have kageyama doing the peace sign because he's awkward af

KRSN as a whole

takeda and ukai really encourage all of them bonding together and taking breaks in between all the stress of practicing and performing

they all live in one big house and its really chaotic

very few people know how to cook and do laundry

also there is an average of 2 accidents per week

but they do get along when it comes to practicing for the next comeback, especially when the subgroups have to collab

ennoshita's studio is a mess of sticky notes and crumpled up paper with probs asahi, daichi, tsukishima, and ennoshita napping on a couch

suga loves being able to train hinata and yamaguchi with vocals and they have a project of covering a new song every week for the fans

tanaka, noya, kageyama and hinata also spend a lot of time in the dance studio

whenever there's a new song they like to come up with movements to add to the choreography

after a really hard day of dancing they end up falling asleep in the studio and waking up to take-out courtesy of takeda

photoshoots and styling sessions take forever since there are so many of them but also its a good time for the members to get some sleep

but kinoshita and narita do not but in the end its all worth it when they see the photos and the reactions from the fans

their music and performances are very varied since they like to show that they're versatile as much as they can

they don't really prioritize being precise and flawless, more on channeling the emotion of their songs and power in their dances

no two performances of the same song are ever the same 

KIYOKO

okay so takeda also had this genius idea of bringing out solo acts and after another round of auditions, kiyoko caught his eye

she's a bit older with idol training and recently left the group she was supposed to debut with because the company didn't treat them right

my girl kiyoko knows her rights

she's basically an all-around talent: good at singing, dancing, rapping, and visuals

takeda knew he would be dumb to overlook her and even though they've mostly been producing boy bands, maybe they'll have success with a solo female idol

kiyoko was very clear abt wanting to have more control over how she was going to be presented and also wanted the opportunity to write her own songs

and takeda and ukai were jus like well yeah duh, that's why we scouted you

kiyoko was like an immediate success

her style is def very sassy and sexy, especially with her dancing ability

kind of like Chungha or Hwasa

but her fans also like her more melancholic and deep songs that are accompanied by her piano playing

she's also super confident and loves to use her platform to empower women

sometimes she does get together with the KRSN members

she collabs pretty often with suga esp when it comes to dance covers and performances

the day she asked tanaka and noya to be back-up rappers for one of her songs was the happiest moment of their lives

kiyoko's a fucking queen

HITOKA

because i wrote hc's for kiyoko i have to make one for yachi too

she's quite interesting because yachi joined like one of those idol training shows and kiyoko happened to be a guest judge

watching yachi sing made her sense some sort of potential so kiyoko being the bad ass bitch she is convinced takeda and ukai to work with her

yachi almost died hearing that Queen Kiyoko thought she had potential

her first years training to be an idol were really tough on her, esp since she was aiming to be a solo act

but she spent a lot of time training with the KRSN - D group and they really helped boost her confidence

everyone in KRSN and kiyoko asked their fans on twitter to support her when yachi's first album dropped

yachi's music is super mellow and light and she has a very sweet, high voice

comeback stages and music video shootings are pretty scary for her but she really shines in live, studio sessions

also knows how to play guitar

writes her own songs !!!

during her first fan meeting she prepared a bunch of presents for her fans and was scared that no one would come but a whole bunch of people did and she was so happy she almost cried

Let’s talk about ableism on hockeyblr

Alright, here’s part two of the conversations we need to be having on this godforsaken website if we’re going to look to being less toxic. Or just decent people in general.

I haven’t met a lot of disabled people on this part of Tumblr. So I genuinely feel pretty alone when it comes to this stuff.

For background: I was a pretty good athlete when I was younger. I was very good at soccer and my gym was trying to get me to go competitive gymnastics where they likely would’ve put me on the route to become an elite gymnast. As my body started hurting more and I wasn’t looking to travel and be homeschooled at 12-years-old, I turned it down and quit gymnastics. I stayed in soccer and didn’t continue playing once I was in high school and rec league wasn’t available anymore. This was mostly due to being uncomfortable with being on gender-segregated teams and also due to the amount of pain I was in on a daily basis.

I also have Type 1 Diabetes and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Undiagnosed, but working on it when it comes to having auditory processing disorder and gastroparesis (though this one I’m not totally sure on). 

I do not have a day off from counting carbs, monitoring my blood sugar, feeling sick, and being in pain. I am disabled. It’s not a dirty word, I am a disabled person.

I see so many things here that may not even totally affect me, but would affect multiple people I know if they were in this community.

My first example: putting st*rs (the word “stars” with an asterisk instead of the “a”) in the middle of different words.

Before I get into it I’m going to explain what a screen reader is and why it’s important. A screen reader is something that blind and low vision people can use to make reading things easier. It’s an accessibility tool. Have you ever been playing around with your laptop settings, accidentally select something, and now whenever your cursor is over something it reads it out loud or tells you where it is? Congrats! You were using a screen reader.

Firstly, it’s just stupid to do but that’s an opinion that I’ve talked about before.

Second, if you have any followers with screen readers, they are likely unable to decipher your post. Whatever amazing message you have about how the Blackhawks need to change their name and logo, it’s unavailable to your blind and low vision followers who may use a screen reader. Screen readers are very wondering and useful tools, but they aren’t perfect. They’re powerful, yet sometimes they get tripped up on things. When you put an asterisk in the middle of a word, it doesn’t read it like the original word, even though that’s what you meant. It messes with the screen reader and causes frustration for everyone. It’s the same thing when you use worlds like ‘folx’ (’folks’ with an x instead of the ks. Folks is already gender neutral, so you’re being performative at that point, but I digress. That’s for another day).

It might not seem like a big deal to everyone non-disabled, but I guarantee that if you wanted to trash talk a team (like literally everyone does during playoffs, for example), you’d be frustrated when everyone you want to talk to is excluding you from doing so.

Relating to this, many people don’t put descriptions for their photos. Some websites like twitter let you do this so that it’s not in your tweet but is available if you’re using a screen reader for it. I don’t think Tumblr does this, but I could be wrong. If Tumblr doesn’t, the next thing would be to put it in the body of your post or the caption. It would usually look something like this:

ALT: [This is describing the photo I just posted.]

And something I find interesting is some of the more ‘I’m very inclusive, everyone has a place on my blog’ people are the ones who do this most. 

Another thing people do is tend to assume “well, he’s disabled now, he can’t play any more games in the NHL or hockey in general.” This is something many people think, but it’s simply not true! And this is a big thing that gets internalized for even those of us who are disabled.

Disability does not equal end of career. There are multiple current and former players with type one diabetes (and, often with that comes Celiac Disease, but not all diabetics have celiac, not all those with celiac have diabetes. They’re just commonly linked!), recently Colin Wilson opened up about his life with OCD which while mental is still pretty disabling, there’s hockey for disabled people outside of the NHL, and while he hasn’t said it himself, Nolan Patrick I believe could be grouped in here with his migraine disorder that kept him out of last season.

Can disabilities be career ending? Sure. But being disabled isn’t inherently career ending.

Being disabled isn’t dirty, we’re not worth less, and we have a place in every form of sports.

It's the hypocrisy that gets me. Macristas/conservatives have no problem telling you how much they hate the poor, immigrants, and non-whites. Peronistas and kirchneristas talk the big talk about social justice(tm) and being righteous and protesting injustice and they think themselves ideologically and morally superior than people with other ideologies and then they turn around and are Like That. He needs to say something antisemitic (would not surprise me, considering the things I've heard Ks say about Nisman) and then we'll have full bingo.

Like if they actually did as they preached, if they acted like they cared about the social justice they so supposedly stand for, then I'd at most be perplexed that they stand for ks/peron but it'd be easier to respect their stance. But being like that? Only caring de la boca para afuera? As my dad would say, standing with the left while acting with the right? Yeah. No can do.

How I see this Patreon mess...

Hey, KS Fans,

I just want to thank everyone for their support, even if you’re not a patron through Patreon. Your comments, likes, and the fact that you just read Kissing Skulls mean the absolute world to me.

I am sure you’re as upset as I am about the announcement that Patreon released about changing their processing fees. I just learned about it 48 hours ago and only this morning did my thoughts slow down enough for me to collect them here. If you are still confused, I used these resources below to understand it and try to come up with a decision of what to do.

I do not agree with Patreon’s proposed increased rates or their marketing scheme to make it look like it will benefit me, the Creator. As far as I am aware, Creators and patrons alike are furious and some part of me feels that I am beating a dead horse in speaking out, but I feel what I have to say is important.

I have emailed and tweeted Patreon about the issue and my stance. I am going to be following the discussion as closely as possible this week and things will stay the same for all my fans. I will keep drawing, posting, and creating for you and for the sake of Kissing Skulls. Depending on the decision Patreon makes to implement their increased processing fee, I can assure you that I will take action for the benefit of Kissing Skulls and all of you, my fans.

Update on ants:

Sprayed my shaggy rug with vinegar and water mix the other day, didnt seem to do anything. I've now folded it up and placed it in the living room for now. There were a few ants under the rug, since its in front of my bed I decided to finally move my drawers and move the shit and boxes I have under it.

1. Found dry cat vomit under my bed, ty Kaneki

2. There was a good amount of ants under my bed so I squashed them and sprayed most of the floor under it with the vinegar mix.

So we'll see what happens next.

Hello All!

So! If any of you were here yesterday, you would have seen the sheer Bombing of Nagasaki that was the KS Discourse.

And, you know what? It got me thinking:

Why am I doing this to myself? Between the ‘Fuck Asexual’ sentiments and stuff like that, why do I bother staying here in a pit of tumor-ridden vipers? 

And, really, there is no reason outside of having such a strong Masochist streak and a love of being miserable. 

So, I’ve decided to take leave. 

Now, it’s going to be an initial hiatus at first just to see how I do with it. But, after that, who knows? I may be better for it and decide to stay away from here altogether. The main reason I’m not outright deleting is because I have a really good fanfiction/ship blog connected to this one and I really don’t want to mess with it. 

So, after today, I will be bidding adieu for a while.

Your Monday Morning Roundup

Sunday afternoons without the Eagles, especially when they’ve already won, are fantastic. You get to watch other games and don’t have to worry about the Birds ruining your weekend and Monday.

That includes the rest of the mediocre NFC East. Washington defeated Carolina, who looked awful, and Dallas dominated Jacksonville, one of the best defenses in the NFL, at home. The Redskins still lead the division with a 3-2 record thanks to their early bye, while the Birds and ‘Boys are second at 3-3. The Giants we know are trash. That might be our only known quantity at this point in the division.

Or maybe it’s how mediocre the Redskins definitely are. They’re 3-2 and they feel like they’ll be a thorn in the Eagles’ side once again in the quest to win the NFC East. Alex Smith is doing his job without any fanfare, while Adrian Peterson looks like his vintage self when he was with the Vikings.

The Cowboys are 3-3, but they still feel like an unknown at this point. They lost to Carolina by eight, Seattle by 11, and Houston by three, with wins over the Giants, Detroit, and Jacksonville. And their head coach is… probably not on the hot seat?

The blandness in the NFC East is also a synopsis of most of the NFC as a whole. 11 of the 16 teams in the conference have either two or three wins. The teams that suck are the Giants, 49ers, and Cardinals. The Saints are 4-1 and had their bye this week and look like the second-best team in the conference. They just got Mark Ingram back last week and looked strong after falling to Tampa Bay in their season opener. And there’s nobody currently near or around the 6-0 Rams, the last undefeated squad in the league.

Overall, I don’t know what to make of most of the NFC, including the Eagles. Maybe in a few weeks we have a better idea of the division and conference, but it’s still a jumbled mess.

Laughton’s three even strength goals leads the Flyers through five games. Starting the season on the fourth line, Laughton has also seen an increase in ice time as he’s jumped up to play with Mikhail Vorobyev and Wayne Simmonds. The left winger has also proven to be an invaluable contributor on the Flyers’ penalty kill leading all forwards in PK minutes. Saturday against the Golden Knights, Laughton’s aggressiveness led to a shorthanded breakaway. If Oskar Lindblom misses significant time, Laughton may even jump up to the Flyers’ second line once Nolan Patrick returns.

The Sixers released their opening night roster ahead of Tuesday’s season opener against the Celtics. It shouldn’t be surprising:

  Interview With The Author

What initially got you interested in writing?

  I’ve always loved writing and discovered in my preteens that I could invent a life for myself that was far more interesting and exciting than my life ‘off paper.’ I used to fictionalize my diary and sent copious letters to relatives and friends, describing great adventures.

  What genres do you write in?

Currently I write in the mystery genre, but I keep a general fiction book tucked in a corner of my mind and my computer—‘my Sunday project,’ my agent calls it.

  What drew you to writing these specific genres?

I have always loved reading mysteries, but somehow never thought about writing them. I wanted to write a family story, a saga of sorts (and still do). But when a mystery-writing friend, Nancy Pickard, encouraged me to help her on a mystery that she was under contract to write, I jumped in head first, and I loved the process. I learned from a master and am forever grateful.

  How did you break into the field?

I broke into the mystery field by helping the aforementioned friend start. But that was followed by an invitation from a small local publisher to write a mystery series based on a group of women who quilt. (The publisher also published quilting books and thought a mystery series companion was a good idea.) The series was The Queen Bees Quilting mysteries, set in a small Kansas town.

When an agent suggested I move to a larger publisher (with a larger distribution), I left the quilting series and began my current series. The twelfth adventure in the lives of the seaside knitters comes out in August: Murder Wears Mittens.

  What do you want readers to take away from reading your works?

My stories revolve around several things, and I hope thoughts and impressions about these are the takeaways: • the friendship of women

life in a small seaside town

a strong sense of place

the importance of finding the goodness in each person, perhaps (in some cases) residing alongside evil. In Murder Wears Mittens, for example, the murder of a reclusive older woman challenges the four women protagonists to figure out possible motivation for killing a woman who seems to have done only good in her life.

  What do you find most rewarding about writing?

As someone once said, I love “having written.” But in addition, writing allows me to examine on paper thoughts that otherwise might be fleeting. Building characters and establishing a sense of place through words is very fulfilling to me. And I love the interaction I have with my readers.

  What do you find most challenging about writing?

I find writing—on those days when I don’t have a single thought in my head and the computer screen is black (or blue or green)—wildly painful. The incentive and discipline to stick with it can be difficult and challenging. Because I don’t write from an outline but rather a short (very short) synopsis, discovering the murderer and the circuitous route that takes me there, is sometimes difficult and challenging (and requires having plenty of faith in my protagonists).

  What advice would you give to people wanting to enter the field?

Read every single day. And in between, write, no matter how little. Developing that habit will serve you well. Also, give yourself permission to write poorly. Throw out that editing urchin sitting on your shoulder. You can always fix messes and awkward writing later.

  What type of books do you enjoy reading?

I read all kinds. Mysteries, women’s fiction, books that defy categories (I am reading a Gentleman in Moscow right now, rereading The Great Gatsby, and enjoying Inside Out and Back Again, a children’s book I’m reading for my daughter and granddaughter’s new mother/daughter book club).

  Is there anything else besides writing you think people would find interesting about you?

Hmmm. Some people find it interesting that in another life, a long, long time ago, I was a nun for a short period. And shortly after that chapter in my life ended, I married a very nice Jewish man. My mother always said, after meeting him, that she knew there was a reason she had named me Sarah.

Joe’s Weather Blog: Snow arrives…and leaves…and comes back…and leaves…and… (FRI-2/15)

Yup..it’s time to buckle up. A very favorable snow pattern will establish itself in the region today and not change a lot for sometime…meaning we’re going to be very vulnerable to snow and with temperatures being cold…sticking snow. There are some wrinkles I’m sure over the next 10 day or so but at least from now till next weekend…we’re sort of set-up for “something”. In time we’re going to start eroding the cold air, especially above us…but that comes down the road.

When you have cold air at the surface and SW to SSW flow aloft…it’s a set-up for disturbances to ride quickly with the stronger winds above us and south of the area. Whether or not a strong storm comes out of all this well see…but we’re going to get chunks of snow today…over the weekend…and then sometime TUE>WED. By the time things are done…some may end up with almost 12″ of snow potentially or at least close to it.

Forecast:

Today: Winter Weather Advisory in effect. Snow developing as the morning moves along. Scattered snow pockets (maybe a few brief ice pellets for some) will gradually fill in this morning. Moderate snow likely in the afternoon when most of the accumulations will occur. The fluff factor of the snow will help the efficiency of the snow accumulations. Really no need to come off the 3-6″ forecast at this point. Steady as she goes regarding that (for now at least). Highs today only in the mid teens or so.

Tonight: Clearing out and bitterly cold with lows near 5° (or colder) with enough clear skies.

Tomorrow: Gradual increase in clouds with more snow likely in the evening and overnight. Another 1-3″ is not out of the question. Highs in the 20s

Sunday: That snow ends with variable clouds and chilly temperatures and highs in the 20s

Discussion:

This is going to be a rare day for me…I’m off from work…which rarely happens when snow, of any significance, comes our way. I actually get to sit home and watch this one unfold. All the other storms, from the blizzard to the snowstorm last month, have been full work days for me. Today it’s just a matter of the blog…keeping you updated on Twitter (@fox4wx) and a post or two on FB (Joe Lauria Fox 4 Meteorologist). Give me a follow or a like there for additional more timely information, especially on Twitter.

So as I type this up at 8AM this morning…radar is lit like a Christmas tree with echoes…but the majority of what it shows is NOT reaching the ground…now this WILL change as the morning moves along…but at this moment at least it’s a study of dry air in the lower 6,000 feet or so of the atmosphere. The snow is falling above that but the dry air is evaporating the snow as it gently falls down. Every so often a flake or ice pellet will reach the ground…but the main event is still a few hours away.

Let me show you why…

Here is the sounding from the morning balloon launch from Topeka, KS. This was just received as the data is from the 6AM.

The dry air is from about 4,900 feet down towards the surface. So that needs to get saturated…and that will take some time.

You can tell the air is drier because the RED/GREEN lines are separated by a good distance. The red line is the temperature and the green line is the dew point. The farther apart they are the drier the air is…the closer together…like in the black box above the orange box, means the air is more saturated.

There is a sliver of 32.5° air at around 5,700 feet too…that might be the reason why there have been a few ice pellet reports. That won’t last too long as that area will drop below freezing in time this morning.

So there are still a few things that need to happen. We also are seeing a continued push of drier low level air. The morning weather map shows the dew points in the single digits as well.

  Notice though to west of KC into central and northern KS and especially Nebraska. See the temperatures in RED and the dew points in GREEN? The more the separation of those two numbers…for example here in KC 14 over 6…the drier the surface air. To our west though look between the numbers See the * * indicators? That is light snow…3 *’s is moderate snow and if you ever see 4 *’s that’s heavy snow. The number next to the stars is the visibility

This is and was expected. Snow evaporating before the main show begins. IF this wasn’t happening we’d end up with closer to 6″ of snow…but this process will chew on that number I think.

With that said the snow that is reaching the ground west of the area…was expected to reach the ground…so the model data that I’m leaning on has done a reasonably good job with this (so far). It’s always a bit concerning (as I’ve mentioned for the last few days) that weak waves overcoming the dry low levels of the atmosphere with limited and not strong lift can underproduce. That’s why the 3″ range needs to be included in the forecast..just in case.

So let’s get into the radar…

Actually I like the trends in the last hour…saturation is occurring and at 8AM Topeka is reporting light snow. It’s just a matter of time.

Here is the latest HRRR model showing the snow moving into the area and exiting the area. This will end after about 6 or 7PM.

The 6AM run of the HRRR model shows roughly 4-5″ of snow across a good part of the KC region.

Seems reasonable.

Note as well the pop in numbers towards the Lakes region and south of KC…indications of 6″+ happening down there. This is because there is some better “lift” forecast to happen down towards the south of US 50 and towards US 54

So with the majority of the snow coming through the late AM and afternoon, again with folks at work wanting to leave…this has a mess of an afternoon/rush hour in the making. Please see yesterday’s blog regarding this potential. I think the awareness is high enough…no one will be surprised so hopefully you, or those who you know are prepared and have made plans.

Most of the schools that were in session today (so many conference days were planned today anyway) are closed so that will reduce the number of people and kids/buses on the roads so that will be helpful.

As far as storm #2 goes…that is due in later tomorrow afternoon/evening and another 1-3″ is expected with that as well into early Sunday morning. The bulk of Sunday though will be OK but cold.

Then there is storm #3 which I think could be something more than what the models are indicating. As is they are showing a lower end accumulating system but I’m concerned this could be something more. The issue is if the upper wave locks into the SW part of the US…and just sends out a small fast moving ripple…or if more of the main storm out there is ejected towards the Plains. IF it’s more of the main storm…that could be a biggie.

So there is obviously a lot happening here…from strictly a meteorological standpoint it’s truly fascinating to watch. I totally get it though…I think the “when will Spring get here” crowd is increasing by the day and towards the end of next week it will be overflowing. Totally understand. I just don’t see it for quite some time to come…probably at least into the 1st week of March…the pattern just looks cold to me (mostly). The added snowcover won’t help either.

Blame it on the Groundhog! Early Spring? Ha!

In the time that it’s taken to write this…about 90 minutes…the snow has started here at the house.
