.。*♡ A/N: I, uh, don't even know how to explain this. My fingers just started typing the more I was thinking about Cater and his trauma.
.。*♡ Warnings: Angst, hurt / no comfort, gn!reader.
Tumblr media
Cater Diamond wore his smile like a knight wears his armor. To the world, he was always cheerful, always ready with a joke or a charming comment, he was the start in the spotilight. It was what people expected from him, after all - someone always expected something from him, first was his sisters, then his friends that he long forgot the names and faces, later his followers.
He was the carefree Cater who could lighten any room, the perfect friend, the flawless entertainer. But beneath that practiced smile and lines, a gnawing emptiness grew, a void he couldn't escape.
He had tried to fill it with countless things — hobbies and pleasant conversations, and most of all: social media. For a while, it worked. It made sense, made him feel like he belonged somewhere. The likes, the comments, the adoration from fans gave him a momentary high, a brief illusion of being seen and valued.
But the rush never lasted. Nothing ever lasted. Day blend together, minutes turn into hours and he is still stagnated on the same spot, unmoving, an actor left behind on the stage.
The second the screen went dark, the emptiness crept back in, colder and more consuming than before. So suffocating.
You were different, though. When you looked at him, you really looked at him, it was like you saw through all the layers he had built up around himself, saw the mask's strings that attached itself on his flesh. Your eyes searched for something real, something beyond the mask. It scared him, that look. It made him feel exposed, vulnerable in a way he hadn't been in a long time. He tried to push that feeling away, bury it beneath more jokes and casual touches, but it lingered, always there, just beneath the surface.
And he didn't know what to do. What to say. He was so used to indifference, he was used to the void on his chest.
And so, he ran away from that problem. From you.
"Cater, you can talk to me," You had said one night, your voice soft, filled with a genuine concern that twisted something deep inside him. He wanted to believe you, to open up and let you in. But the thought of it terrified him. What if you saw the real him and decided he wasn't worth it? What if you turned away, disgusted by the broken, hollow person beneath the mask?
So he kept up the act, even when it hurt. He told you it was nothing, that he was just tired, busy, whatever excuse he could think of to keep you from prying too deep. Each lie felt like a shard of glass lodged in his throat, but he swallowed them down, smiling all the while.
The more you tried to reach him, the more he pulled away. He couldn't bear the thought of you seeing through the cracks, of you realizing that everything he was, everything he did, was just a performance. He started responding to your messages less, making excuses to avoid seeing you. It was easier that way, to distance himself, to keep you from getting too close, even when his vision was blurry and he didn't know why.
But the void didn't go away. It only grew, gnawing at him from the inside, leaving him feeling emptier with each passing day. He hated himself for it, for pushing you away, for not being able to be the person you thought he was. The guilt and shame ate at him, making the void even deeper and dangerous.
When he finally sent that message — "Sorry, been busy. Let's take a break, okay?"— it felt like the final nail in the coffin. He knew he was hurting you and your feelings profoundly, that you deserved so much better than the hollow shell he had become. But he couldn't stop himself.
He couldn't bear the thought of dragging you down into his darkness, of letting you see just how broken he really was.
As he stared at his phone, the words blurring together, he felt the weight of his own facade crashing down around him. The truth was, he didn't know how to be real anymore. He had worn the mask for so long that he had forgotten what it felt like to be genuine, to let someone in.
Cater Diamond was a performer, and in the end, even he couldn't tell where the performance ended and the real him began. So he let you go, knowing it was the only way to protect you from the void that had consumed him. As the silence settled in, the emptiness felt more suffocating than ever, but he told himself it was for the best.
And yet, even as he tried to convince himself, the ache in his chest grew, a constant reminder of what he had lost. He had pushed away the one person who had seen him, truly seen him, and now all he had left was the cold, unyielding void. In the end, Cater Diamond was left with nothing but the echoes of his own hollow laughter and the bitter taste of regret.

Selfies
Tumblr media
Content: Silver mentioned at the end. In kind of an obsessed way IDK PUT ME DOWN...
Sfw.
Little drabble because I HAD to get this idea out of my head.
How can I make this about Silver?
...
Ever since coming to Night Raven College, you've had a pile of seemingly endless work cut out for you. However, you've also noticed... There really wasn't much to do when you finally did take breaks.
By chance, Cater had caught you sitting on a bench in the botanical garden, seemingly bored out of your mind. Carefree as always, he plopped down next to you in an almost exaggerated movement, lifting his phone with an arm around your shoulders before you could react.
"Say 'cheese'~!"
He chirped, the camera shutter sounding. It didn't take more than a minute for him to filter and post your selfie straight to his Magicam page. And that's how you joined his Magicam obsession, always taking selfies together whenever he was present. It was actually fun seeing his likes and followers grow, or how people would take the time to comment compliments about you. Of course, you felt he might've been deleting anything negative too, but it wasn't any big deal.
Though, there was one day... Cater approached you, looking down at his phone the entire time until he was just a few steps away. He clearly had a baffled look on his face, but he snapped back to his cheery countenance just as quickly.
"Hey~! I just thought you'd want to see this!"
The junior tilted his phone towards you, showing his notification page on Magicam:
♡ @_silver1234 liked your post
♡ @_silver1234 liked your post
♡ @_silver1234 liked your post
♡ @_silver1234 liked your post
♡ @_silver1234 liked your post
...
∩+ @_silver1234 followed your account
"I'm pretty stoked that such a cammable person vibes with my account! But... It seems he only gave likes to the photos I took with you."
Cater scratched his cheek with a nervous, or almost exasperated, chuckle. Perhaps someone should've told Silver not to make his account so glaringly obvious...

Cater and Lillia aren’t too serious about the music club, but kalim is very serious. He wants to continue the band after they graduate and make merch and have millions of fans and be famous with his friends and-.
Problem is he doesn’t know how to organize or plan long term for the life of him.
Whenever the others joke about the band/not being serious about it, kalim hams it up 1000% cuz they don’t realize he is really into it and doesn’t want to make them upset
Oh wow we suck really bad♦️
Yeah. Could you imagine if we were a real band?🦇
YEAH THATS SO FUNNY GUYS HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 🦦

Insomnia and Twisttube
Tumblr media
Character: Cater Diamond Description: Cater discovers a youtuber, the boy looked familiar and cater goes through a thought spiral before possibly discovering a new hobby. Word Count: 1424
Cater Diamond X Youtuber! Reader
First Fanfic for this blog, wanted to leave it vague so that you guys are able to run with it after wards and decide your own endings!  Feedback is welcomed!
Cater snickers to himself as he watches the video off his phone, insomnia kicked in once again, fortunately for him, it was Saturday, but still, it was quite the misfortune when you had to wrangle first-years and help your dorm head early tomorrow. He tries not to think about it too much as he continues to watch the young teen scream and run away from the digital ghost that was chasing him in the game. Goofy cat theme headphones stuck on top of the H/C haired boy, as he chuckled as he watch the digital ghost run into the invisible run.
“GET WRECKED, SON! Hahaha! Okay- we have dots and low temps, we just need to get one more and we can identify this lil fucker” the boy said quietly, whispering as if he was in the game. Cater chuckled quietly, watching intently as the person on his phone ran to get more items from the fake van. Cater hums softly, before focusing more on the twist-tuber on his phone. They looked familiar, but Cater couldn’t put their finger on it. The boy's hair was H/L, but unruly, showing that the video was recorded late at night, a soft blue glow showed behind him, as he bobbed back and forth, accessories bobbing with his rapid movements.
Sudden ghostly hands showed up behind the boy, touching his shoulders, resulting in the poor teen jumping 3 feet in the air, the game is quickly paused and the boy disappears, cussing out the entity, who was currently giggling. Cater laughs as well, imagining beginning there before getting embarrassed and turning off his phone. He plugs the device in on its charger, before staring at his dark ceiling, face bright red as he mentally scolds himself for imagining being in the house with the strange teen.
Sure, Cater was positive he knew who the boy was, but that didn't mean he should make fantasies about being in the same location as the little nerd he watches the video of basically nightly when his insomnia was hellbent on not letting him sleep. That unfortunately didn’t stop his brain, as it scattered from all the faces and names he knew for a fact. He knew the boy wasn't from one of the main dorms. That was a fact since he knew everyone in this school. He almost settled for an Ignihyde student, since he heard the boy complain about computer specs and wanting to upgrade, but the student's personality fits that of the other dorms, being bubbly, and energetic, but still timid some moments, like when he would play dating sims and would get flustered by a strong compliment from the fake characters on screen.
Then it clicked… He knew this student's face, he knew why this student was so familiar but so distant. Cater remembered during the assignment on the dorms, there was one boy that stood out. He was Cater’s age, slightly taller/smaller than Cater, wearing strange clothes with a weird bag strapped to his back. The mirror stated that the boy present didn’t have magic and that was what he thought would be the last of the boy since the Headmage escorted the boy out and Cater never bumped into him since then.
Well- except for when his house warden overblotted, that, he remembers clearly, the strange, magicless boy was able to calm Riddle down relatively quickly, and provided some sort of therapy work, granted a quote he remembered vividly was that of “Riddle, it's like the blind leading the blind here, I am mentally ill, but- Hey! I am here to be your vent buddy!”
Since then Riddle has been much calmer, going to the abandoned dorm that was affectionately referred to as ramshackle, his mind ran as he opened up his phone again, clicking on another video showing him in brighter light. Proving Cater right, this was the ramshackle boy! He jumped from his bed and went out of his room, just to run straight into Riddle.
“Ah, Cater! Good morning, it is quite odd to see you awake this early?” Riddle asked, currently brewing tea for the dorm to drink in the morning since most of the students in Hearslabyul were not coffee drinkers.  Cater’s face turned bright red before he coughed awkwardly.
“Yeah! I am fine, just uh... Going to see someone, b-because it's the weekend and we have free time!” Cater exclaimed, putting up his best smile.
Riddle looked at him for a second before smiling smugly. “Well if you are going to see someone, may I suggest changing out of your pajamas? I don't think you would want to provide a good impression.”
Cater looks down before his face turns brighter, running back into his room. “Hey no running! We don’t need any injuries!”
Cater was quick to redress. He fixed his hair, put on his regular school uniform, styled his hair quickly, and painted the diamond on his cheek, with the help of one of his signature spell’s clones-
Once he did a once over, he smiled happily before walking back out. He is met by Trey, Adeuce, and Riddle, the group chatting about school activities and the day's activities altogether, granted the freshmen were sluggish and were leaning on each other, slowly dozing off in the presence of the still relatively strick house warden.
He waves as he walked out, grabbing one of the breakfast sandwiches Trey made for breakfast before making a beeline for the door, nomming his food quietly as he walked at a slow pace to the destination. “GRIM YOU LITTLE GOBLIN, GIVE ME BACK MY PEN” “YOU DON'T NEED IT! YOU DON'T HAVE MAGIC! THE GREAT MAGE GRIM DOES!” “YEAH BUT YOU HAVE LIL GRUBBY HANDS AND EASILY FORGET WHERE YOU WOULD PLACE THEM! GET YOUR LITTLE KITTY BUTT BACK HER-”
Cater did not have enough time to react as he was ran into by a boy followed by a fuzzy companion. Both boys fell to the floor, luckily Cater ate the sandwich before this, but didn't make the impact pleasant. The boy on top of him pushes himself up with his hands and looks down at Cater before his face turns bright red, and scrambles off of him.
Cater, however, had yet to recollect what happened still. “Oh gosh- I am so sorry- uh Cater was it? OH GOSH, I AM SO SORRY!” The teen bowed aggressively, apologizing frantically.
“Hey! It's fine! No need to apologize! I can understand getting distracted by things and running into something or someone!” Cater was quick to get up and show the boy that he did no harm.
“Hey, your Y/N, right?” Cater asked, praying he was right. The teen in question perked up, before smiling happily, “Yeah! I didn’t know people knew my name to be honest…” Y/N turned his head, looking away from cater for a moment, before clearing his throat, Cater doing the same.
There was a long pause before they both looked at each other, their cheeks rosy. “Hey I'm a fan of your work” “Hey I'm a fan of your work”
There was a short pause before followed by a bunch of giggles and chuckles.
“Wait you are a fan of mine?” “Wait you are a fan of mine?”
“O-Okay okay! LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN!” Y/N laughed again, whipping a stray tear from his face before covering his mouth slightly with his knuckle. “I go first because I think I would die if I heard you first-” He said, face turning redder by the second. “I like how you post pictures, how you can make the filters make the photo look better but not fake- I wish I was able to post like you” Cater’s face turned pink again, before chuckling and putting his hand in his pocket, fiddling with the seam gently, before taking a deep breath. “Yeah- I feel the same way, just instead of pictures is video editing” He looks away, shying away, “Video editing always kills me-” Cater admitted before slightly awkward silence hits both of them.
“If you want…” Y/n began “I can…um…teach you! If you teach me how to take pictures!” he joked, before picking up the grey cat, which was struggling and refusing to hold still.
“Gladly! I will gladly teach you my ways of the” Cater did jazz handles before picking up his phone from his pocket. “Magicam!~”
Both boys laughed and walked toward ramshackle, the reason the ramshackle student left was because of his chaotic, furry teammate.

Character relations with Paige! Part two<3
Cater’s Opinion on Paige: Cater thinks Paige should totally go pro when it comes to music, he says that he can help him get started by promoting his music on his Magicam blog! The two are good friends, especially since they’re both in the same club. Cater searches for different harmony’s to match with Paige’s lyrics, and has even convinced Paige to make his lyrics into actual songs for them to practice during music club (when they do practice, that is…)
Paige’s opinion on Cater: Loud. Oh so loud. Yet so nice to be around! Paige thinks Cater is extremely supportive, and he really appreciates his help when it comes to music. Cater is a great listener, and Paige loves sharing his interests with him. He has been considering Cater’s idea of creating his own Magicam blog to spread his music around more, and thinks it’s actually not a bad idea. He’s definitely made a song or two inspired by Cater’s different moods, that’s how fond of him Paige is!
Mutual relationship: These two are siblings. There is no other way to describe it! Cater is a lot more open about his feelings and troubles with Paige than he is with anyone else, and in turn Paige promises to always be there for him, even if it’s from afar. The two are working on the creation of Paige’s music blog, and Cater is already going crazy about how they should theme it, what the first album should look like, what the first song would be, etc. Paige is letting Cater go as crazy as he wants with it, after all it was his idea to start a blog in the first place. Though he already knows which song will be first… The Diamond in My Night Sky.
God I’m an awful writer 😭 Cater is so hard to read in my opinion, so so sorry if I interpreted him entirely wrong. Anyway, I adore the dynamic between Cater and Paige, I think the two really would be like brothers!
I’m currently working on some Cater fanart (which is going totally awful), so that will probably be my next post! Sorry for being inactive 😭

Pictures of Yesterday (Cater Diamond and Reader)
Warnings: N/A.
Summary: You don’t want your picture taken and Cater doesn’t understand why.
Tumblr media
.
.
.
There are a lot of things that happen to catch Cater’s eyes.
Bright things, shiny things, interesting things.
He liked to be on top of the most recent and most Magicammable trends that are happening online, of the new fashions, and what media was hot and new. He liked seeing his notifications blast him with the newest of the new; it made him smile and his chest thrum. It made him feel like he finally meant something, that he was creating a persona for himself that he felt was actually palatable to others.
He liked interesting things.
He liked things that were different and brand new.
But it was all the better if he could make something of it.
So, on his posts that he would make on Magicam, he made sure to stand out and be the thing that everyone wanted to rant and rave about. Would his tags make him all the more alluring? Would he be able to hop onto the latest trend quickly enough before it got snuffed out like a candle under a strong wind? It was the useless vanity of it all, of things that didn’t matter in the long run, but kept Cater steady and calm in his day to day life.
If he wasn’t on Magicam and if no one knew what he was doing at all times, then did he truly exist?
“I don’t want to be included in the picture, Cater.” Your voice sounded so shy, yet so sure of yourself. It was an odd combination and Cater wanted to laugh. Such contradictions were few and far in between the halls of Night Raven College: you were either as brave as your bluster or you were taken advantage of by bigger predators. Even Cater knew his place among the turbulent rankings. “Not today, but I can help you with the angle?”
Cater pouted, but gave you his phone after adjusting the settings. “Aww, come on! It would be so cute to have a picture of us eating this strawberry tart together, right? I could even add in a few neat hashtags like #berrynicetreat or #strobbery since we got this at a discount price!”
Much to his credit, you seemed to relax at his joking demeanor before gesturing for him to pose at his seat, the picture perfect strawberry tart tantalizingly placed on a cute plate. Here, he made a heart with his fingers, the slender digits crooked and poised correctly with the ease of someone who had done this countless times before. To finish off the look, he tilted his head at a slight angle before shooting a wink at you.
Am I cute yet?”
You stifled a laugh before focusing the camera app on him and taking a series of pictures to choose from later.
“Cater, I don’t know why you have to ask. You always look cute!”
You didn’t look up at Cater until you returned his phone back into his outreached hand. When you did, you were startled by the blank expression on his face. No, wait. There was something on his face, but you weren’t sure what. His eyes were downturned, almost contemplative. His lips were pursed in a straight line—a far cry from the usually bright smile that you often saw. What was even more concerning, aside from the combination of disturbingly somber facial features, was that the third year student was slouched in his seat and he had yet to start choosing and editing the pictures that he had taken.
At this point, you were concerned and was about to ask, but he said, in a voice that was far more subdued than his normal high energy, said, “You look cute, too.” You were about to wave away his empty flattery with a smile, but his next question had you halting. “Why don’t you want your picture taken? Or get tagged in today’s post?”
You shrugged, not really understanding why Cater was taking this, of all things, so seriously. “Does it really matter? There are just some days where I don’t always feels like taking pictures of myself. Like today, for example. My clothes are wrinkled and I didn’t prepare for a photoshoot.” Attempting to laugh this all off did nothing to stop Cater from looking so… off.
If anything, the third year Heartslabyul student looked even more disturbed, perhaps even affronted by what you just said.
“Does it matter?” He muttered to himself. It sounded like he hadn’t meant to say it out loud, but it was too late: you had heard it. His fingers, long, tapered, and well maintained tapped on the blank screen of his phone, the screen having long since shut down since he hadn’t interacted with it while he was speaking with you. He said something else, but quieter this time, so you couldn’t catch it. What you did notice, however, was that his bright green eyes flickered towards yours and held your gaze for an unfathomably long time.
“Hey, um… Are you feeling all right, Cater?” Still no response—at least, one that you couldn’t detect on a physical level—so you had no choice but to address the elephant in the room. Or, the strawberry tart that lay tantalizingly on his plate. “Anyway, I know that the only reason you invited me was so that you wouldn’t waste the tart, so I’ll just—”
You maneuvered the tart onto your side of the small table, still aware that Cater was watching your every move and was likely trying to think of something to salvage the situation. On the other hand, this was the first time you had seen Cater so withdrawn and serious. It was an interesting development, but it was jarring.
You wondered if Cater was sick or if he was always like this when there was something on his mind.
Which reminded you…
After taking a small bite out of the tart, you asked, “Does it bother you? Knowing that I don’t put that much care into what my image is like online?”
It wasn’t exactly your fault, if you recall. For the first semester at Night Raven College, you had gone without a cell phone until the Headmage decided to give you one during the winter holidays. A part of you thought that the Headmage would ask for it back, but he had surprised you with genuine generosity. Still, you were careful not to use it too much for fear that you would accidentally break it and well… You didn’t have to guess to know that the Headmage was magnanimous at a whim, but that didn’t mean that his patience was without a limit.
In a situation like this, with a question shot into the air like that, you guessed that Cater would laugh it off and return back to normal. Even if this scenario was well within the boundaries of the unimaginable, you would be sad to let this opportunity go. It was rare that you could see your upperclassman look somewhat vulnerable, considering you often associated him with a more lackadaisical attitude, but it wasn’t in your nature to push too much.
If Cater wanted to be aloof, then it was in his right to do so.
What you didn’t expect was that Cater took you seriously. “It does, actually.” His chin fell forward onto his open palm, his bright green eyes uncharacteristically probing, lacking the happy go lucky disposition that he often afforded himself.
“Do you…” You swallowed hard when you felt bits of the tart stick to your throat, the sweetness calling you back to eating more of the pastry instead of engaging in conversation, but you were adamant in asking. “Would you like to talk about it? About why it bothers you so much?”
Cater yawned a little behind his hand before nodding slowly before gesturing towards his phone. “Not really.” That’s what you expected. “But I am curious, why? I know that you always lug around that ghost camera from the Headmage, and you do take pictures now and then, but it’s mostly of other people. Even after you received your phone, you don’t even take pictures of yourself all that often.”
“I don’t find the need to document myself?”
He raised a brow, unconvinced.
“I think it’s because… I don’t know how to explain it, but taking pictures is more than just posing correctly, getting the right tags in, and making sure that your filters and lighting is perfect. For me, it’s finding a memory worth keeping and immortalizing. I don’t have to be in the photos, per se, but I do want to capture the feeling of what it feels like in the moment.” You paused to think.. “Most of the time, capturing that feeling is spontaneous and candid. When you take pictures of yourself or with others, it feels so forced and unnatural. With the ghost camera, I take in everything: the good, the bad, and what is worth remembering.”
Cater leaned back in his chair, a darkened expression making itself known in his eyes. “Prefect… Am I worth remembering then?”
Even underneath all the glitzy lighting and filters?
Even when he tried to make the cutest tags?
Even when he knew that the light in his eyes whenever he smiled for the camera was often teh result of wanting to look good instead of just being in the moment?
You held up your fingers on both hands and formed a box, made a feigned look of contemplation, and then said “Click!” as if you were actually using the ghost camera.
“Of course, Cater.” You grinned at his bemused expression, the light returning to his eyes and ease loosening the line of his shoulders. “I don’t think I can forget you even if I wanted to.”
