@unalive-drawer submitte: Just got this beautiful little friend not too long before the writing of this! This is in [removed] [<- please remove], Arkansas, and I'm quite unsure of what this little fancy buddy is!
Tumblr media
Some additional spider medias as well! No ids needed for them! This precious pair moved in not too long ago. The one building the web is named Kiwi and the second one is named Jared!
Tumblr media
And also another Photo of that Yellow Garden spider I sent last submission period! Her name is Starfruit!
The first beetle fella is a longhorn beetle, looks like mayyybe a twig girdler but I'd feel more confident about that with another angle. Please tell Kiwi, Jared, and Starfruit that I love them all deeply :)

So I went on a phenology walk at Ozark Audubon today. We were mainly looking for any flowers that might have survived the freeze a few days ago, but we found some other neat stuff, too. This was one of the coolest! Look closely at the end of the branch--you can see where it has been neatly carved away, and then snapped in the center after the branch died.
That's the work of the female twig girdler (Oncideres cingulata), a species of longhorn beetle found in the east and midwest United States. She girdles the branch of a hardwood tree, lays her eggs in the branch, and then after it falls the eggs hatch and the larvae feed on the dead wood.

This is the 150th installment of 'Since I've Been Gone'. Taken on 2020 22nd November during my time with @americanconservationexperience, I found a huisache twig girdler beetle (Oncideres pustulata). In Texas, it hosts the great leadtree. However, it also goes after the invasive white leadtree. The twig girdler gets its name because of this genus will chew up a girdle on a twig, which damages it enough for the female to dig out a hole to her lay eggs. #animal #animals #wildlife #insect #insects #insectagram #texaswildlife #texasnature #nature #fauna #txwildlife #invertebrate #invertebrates #beetle #beetles #flatfacedlonghornbeetle #imago #longhornbeetle #longhornbeetles #twiggirdler #twiggirdlerbeetle #animalia #arthropod #arthropods #arthropoda #insecta #coleoptera #cerambycidae #oncideres #onciderespustulata (at Charlies Pasture) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXZHAMiK7hy/?utm_medium=tumblr

Shimmering Metallic Embroideries of Dragonflies and Other Insects by Humayrah Bint Altaf
Bedford, England-based embroidery artist Humayrah Bint Altaf (previously) continues to construct ornate insects using shimmering threads and metallic beads. Her dragonflies, bees, beetles, and butterflies take shape using carefully paired patterns and colors that form wings, bodies, and even delicate feet. While Altaf takes artistic license with the exact shapes and colors in her embroideries, her use of bright, reflective materials adds a sense of life to these insect interpretations. The artist shares with Colossal:
I strive to create pieces that speak figuratively and literally of the colors and textures of trees, plants, beetles, bees, roots, twigs and other creatures that frequent my world. Light is an integral element of my handwork hence the materials I use reflect this. Soft gold leathers, vintage silks, antique gold cords, iridescent metal wires all call out to me and are woven into my pieces.
Altaf was recently recognized by The Worshipful Company of Girdlers for her contributions to Embroidery. She shares her work on Instagram and also sells her embroideries on Etsy.
