TWD Fandom, TWD Zone needs your help
Calling all TWDZone members and visitors! Over the past year, TWD Zone has increased its membership by 69% . We’ve been able to share some great intel, even line by line dialogue for critical scenes in episodes including 6.15, 6.16 with the Lucille lineup, 7.01 and 7.10 this year. We've spoiled every episode, plus built a nurturing community where our members enjoy talking spoilers, theories, death predictions, and the pros and cons of staying with the comics. We also have comics and coverage of FTWD in addition to many other shows. We’ve speculated as to whether Andrew Lincoln gets paid every time he used the word “brilliant” to describe an episode :D and whether there is anything or anyone Daryl Dixon isn't shipped with (maybe a pineapple?). We've enjoyed sharing our spoilers with TWD fandom since October 2015.
In order to keep these conversations going and the information coming, we need your help.
The Zone's administrators and staff work hard to keep the site glitch, ad and troll free so members can easily navigate and enjoy the community. In order to do that, we rely on software to keep spammers and trolls out and exhaust resources to ensure the site is running efficiently, around the clock.
As the site has grown, this has become more difficult as most of what is purchased for the site is based on our member count. As more people have joined us, the prices have gone up beyond the donations coming from members.
We've gone ad-free, added software tools and other components which keep our sources safe from discovery and harm. We have terrific legal counsel who keeps us continuing to operate and posting spoilers but that expertise doesn't come cheap. We, unlike other spoiler sites, have never been subject to an AMC takedown order or disruption of our accounts, despite our posting the incredibly detailed spoilers we have shared with the fandom. A year ago, TWD Zone had the only confirmed spoilers for the Lucille line scene with line by line dialogue, background and character reactions.
We also take huge personal risks to provide spoilers to the fandom for each episode. We plan to keep the spoilers coming in season 7 and beyond! Like all spoiler sites, we have had to fight some internet jerks who have taken our spoilers, and posted them uncredited as their own, making $ off of YouTube from ad revenue. One month of that YouTube ad money could keep the site going for 4 months.
We’re asking for those who enjoy the site community and our spoilers to consider donating to help us keep things running smoothly and ad- free.
TWD Zone members who donate are a small but generous group, whose sponsorship has kept the site operating on a tight but manageable budget for 18 months now. We are grateful for their continued support.
We had hoped to be able to move to another software platform by now, but donations have not made that possible at this time, despite the huge growth we have achieved and our many successes.
Most fans do not know that even on a "free forum site" platform there are always costs involved and the sites are never truly "free". We have to buy data, renew our domain licenses, buy licenses to host photos (Photobucket), pay to provide an ad-free community, purchase annual licenses for screening and other tools which keep out the notorious fandom trolls who always try to sneak in. We find and firmly block those folks because we do not want them disrupting discussions, sowing hate and discord and ruining TWD Zone as they have ruined so many other once-great sites. We are not about to let that happen, no worries.
TWD Zone remains a Carol and Caryl safe-haven community and always will.
We are good stewards with your $ donations- two administrators must agree on how every penny is spent before anything is bought or licensed. Your gifts always go only to pay the site operating costs. No one is making money off the fandom for personal gain.
To be clear, we aren’t asking for your first born (unless you think your first born would be a good addition to our staff? Then we should talk) – $5, 20, 50 dollars…whatever you’re comfortable with. Everything done on the site is a labor of love. No one on staff is making money off of this, and all staff members have found ways to make the site a priority in addition to the very real life needs outside of fandom.
If you enjoy the site and want to see it flourish, if you appreciate having a place to go for TWD discussion and spoilers which is drama and hate free, please consider supporting us.
We have a PayPal link on the site, but some members have asked if they can send personal checks, money orders or gift cards if they are more comfortable with that. Sure, if that works for you, we will make it work for Zone.
We want to stay open - the site was always built as a community which would be self-sustaining financially with regular member support. We have a class of VIP members who get a special group designation as those who support our community. Some of our sponsors have wanted to remain anonymous on the site, and we are also happy to keep their gifting hidden as they prefer. We have a class of VIP members who get a special group designation as those who support our community. Some of our sponsors have wanted to remain anonymous on the site, and we are also happy to keep their gifting hidden as they prefer. So please consider becoming a TWD Zone sponsor and VIP member today! Ripley

Maybe I should clarify something that seems to be getting in the way of communication? Yes, this is a fan blog and people are expressing their personal opinions—everybody is entitled to theirs and I'm not trying to silence anyone, but to me and MT (please, correct me if I'm being presumptuous in speaking for you here) it also resides in a murky hinterland where we need to be aware of our professional personas/reputation. It's a public forum, so I'm focusing on certain talking points over others. That doesn't mean I'm blind.
(Also, sometimes, thoughts live in the spaces between words, not unlike coins and cookie crumbs underneath the cushions of a couch.)
"I understand the mission, what's helpful and what's not. But completely ignoring and dismissing his part in it all ain't it."
@satireplz, I'm neither dismissing, nor ignoring the man's flaws. (I'm well aware of them.) It's just not a productive conversation in this particular context. He's not running for public office, nor does he decide if the spinoff gets canceled, so it'll just fuel the current wave of 'misunderstood white men' who complain about being persecuted. We don't need someone going on a 2 am rage tweet spree about being bullied out of all his privilege and for media to pick that up and run with how unhinged fans are. Being the headline would be counterproductive when we want to draw attention to mistreatment of both employees and consumers.
AMC needs to change their practices. All executives need to be vigilant regarding their behavior and decisions: they affect real people and their livelihood. That's where we can have an impact right now.
@mmbangel:
"The facts are AMC loves Norman & they will do anything for him and he had always wanted his own spin off. The move to France has been very beneficial for Norman & trying to paint him as some victim is bullshit."
AMC is a business set up to make money, so their primary motivator is financial gain, not love. If the studio can make a profit out of Norman, it will. If he won't give them enough of a return, they'll invest elsewhere. He's a commodity. AMC has also had a massive overturn of personnel in the last year and working for the company doesn't make you part of a hive mind. Most of the key execs have moved on from their positions and Gimple doesn't love Norman or any of the other actors or the writers.
He isn't blameless, but there's no spinoff and probably won't be regardless of where Norman lives.
"If you love Melissa as much as you claim you wouldn't want her anywhere near Amc, Norman and Gimple. They treated her like trash and as if she wasn't important to TWD or the fans."
I don't want anyone anywhere near Gimple, but Melissa, as a competent adult, can choose for herself what she wants to do. It's difficult for female actors in their 50s to get work. It's a humiliating process if you're not a select few, coming mainly from film. That's also being treated like trash. Regardless, it's not for me to tell Melissa what to do and I think MT's collective just wants to give her the option to choose what she wants.
"People are upset because if NR and AMC treated the women tied to this spin-off as disposable….it does not speak well of them."
@cool-avaspuppies, I agree with you, but I think it's also important to remember that AMC isn't a monolith (even if they may seem like the Borg) and the people who oversaw the TWD franchise are no longer at the company. That gives a window to having some kind of impact on working conditions and the creative output that gets greenlit. Like you said, it's currently more important to target the people in power if we want good programming that is mindful of both its audience and the people working on the production.
If anyone minds being mentioned by name when I quote or address topics they've raised, please let me know and I will respect your wishes. I'm not here to hurt anyone's feelings. Just trying to work out where our common ground might be. :)
[SF]
I feel like I haven’t been successful yet in explaining why I’m always so diplomatic so thank you for bringing that up. It is a safeguard when you work in an industry where reputation and relationships are everything even if I’m confident nobody knows who I am. But also? It comes down to principles for me. We’re all human beings behind our handles and/or TV personas, so I think we all deserve to be treated that way. Getting publicly attacked, harassed, or threatened by people who don’t know you can be extremely damaging and I would never want to subject anyone to that when I know there are blind spots (not that I am fully blind either). That is a far cry from believing someone can do no wrong or hasn't done anything wrong.
I think we’ve been pretty successful finding common ground by showing our appreciation for Melissa, not to be confused with trying to force her into something she doesn’t want to do, and also loving Caryl, so that’s what I tend to focus on.

Hello lady, just watched this round table with Danai from July 20 and I was wondering if you and perhaps your fellow Richonne writers could write a short story involving Hollywood's Roundtable but with some of the characters from TWD instead and perhaps the host could be Hershel or Deanna? Just an idea. There's a real opportunity to bring up major societal issues with this kind of shared communication forum in fiction. Its just a request as a fan. I wish you well!
Hey! Thanks for dropping by. This is a really interesting premise for a fic. Admittedly, I’m unfamiliar with the setup of Hollywood’s Rountable (and should probably watch). I’ll put this out to the fandom to see if anyone wants to have a go at it, but I will definitely add to my prompt list. I hope you’re well. Take care ❣️

ranting on TWD s9 again. :] ... other rants in #*twd or #*twd s9h
uh this is more about recent news, recent filming spoilers. Also FTWD deaths. -Carol, shows, pro-Rick.
‘wait and see’ is hard. I guess I just want TWD AU to be good too and hoping/waiting is hard.
i guess i go rant till next year lol.
vvvv
Lately im just waiting for more info on Carol. I wanna know what Carol will be like in s9, TWD AU or the fumbling dead...BUT the filming spoilers tho...it’s like rubbing salt in my wounds about TWD’s potenial runied/AL leaving over and over.
It’s all just a bummer. I should not read into the filming spoilers that much. ..and omg avoid forum drama.
Like I wanna see spoilers and I can’t help but hope for good Carol spoilers. Like getting spoilers about Caryl (and answers about C/E), Carol & Henry, and Carick/TF. :((( But then I get sad again and again. Idk what’s going on. I guess I assume there’s no good Carol spoilers and no Carick. :(((( Actually it’s just seeing any Rick spoilers is just sad. Also this whole Rick (and Maggie) dying/leaving the show thing is like dragged out rubbed in our wounds all till like when the ep airs their death/leaving. Like November or December. Ugh. I just wanna get it over with it and to know what’s canon. Cry and move on. :\ So then we can make TWD AU fanarts..or do it now. ......I think it’s good to know what’s canon so then we don’t wonder and worry about avoiding it. It doesn’t mean to watch the show live but just reading it and know it and then just let it go and then make fanarts. xP
I was gonna not watch s9 anyways but dang just learning about s9 or what is canon ...is hard. sigh. but in time we will be alright. ...
------------------
TWD s9 speculations ~
so some filming spoilers coming out sounds like the gory comic death scene will happen. The heads on the pikes, killed by Alpha. They’re gonna film a zombie herd soon and whisperers may be part of that, I guess. i think of FTWD s4A and the deaths of Nick and Madison and how it seems like cheap deaths. I guess Rick and Maggie will go out like that... boring. not moving, imo. Doesn't impact the story or..............I’m just bitter. I just really want a good ending for Rick (thee main character). Like he saved his people and he dies and everyones lives without walkers as a threat and they’re safe in a community forever.
Travis’ death was meh (k it was really bad. wtf). ..I know I just won’t like whatever will happen with Rick and/or Maggie. For some reason, I feel like some characters got a good death scene for the overall story. Like Glenn, Sasha and Carl, imo. Their deaths were like they brought a new chapter to the story/show. Idk I liked Sophia and Merle’s deaths too. Anyways, their deaths changed the story. ..Or I guess they changed Rick characterwise in his story. sigh.
Dang it’s like three weeks and AMC still didn’t confirm it or anything about AL leaving news. It makes me think AMC/writers wanted it to be a surprise that Rick dies/leaves the show (like how Nick and Madison died). ugh that’s even more lame.
Dang it’s like AMC/showrunners? doesn’t let fans to trust them or get them excited at all for the story. It’s like some writers/AMC don’t care about the story’s core story and the fans. So blah. I know some fans were disappointed that they were ‘spoiled’, but like that’s way to hard for me to handle that. I’m glad it was leaked and for me to know ahead of time...though the waiting and the dread sucks.
UGH Skybound mailbag thing makes this hiatus worse by dragging the unknown..rubbing the salt..with their vague spoilers. And saying it in a troll way too. It’s cos we don’t know what’s up with Carol and writers made it that dumb way on not making it clear in their lackluster s8 finale (s8 finale shouldve been like s2 finale foreshadowing timeskip and next arc-Michonne/prison). I just wanna know if C/E happens or not, or Caryl be endgame, or will Carol ever have romance, will Carol interact with TF/Rick/Henry, in this TWD AU. geez. ...I want spoilers. I want confirmations and then leave the show-canon alone.
Carol speculations in s9.
- uh it seems like Carol is in Kingdom and just hanging out with Henry and Kingdomers in 9A. idk about Carick but we got a lit bit of something from filming spoilers, in 9x01. meh. :\ Some Caryl moments but how Skybound answered it, idk it depends on how I see it (on tumblr). As long as Caryl still be soulmate-y. Sigh I miss Carol or I miss what the show used to be and the potential.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
AMC is having a bad year/June, huh? lol ..partly their fault, anyways. wtf TWD shows are like destroying itself and then now the Hardwick (TTD) news of him being an abuser. sigh. Damn we really got BTS drama. :\ With the shows losing their leads, is it part of the lawsuits and diverting away from Kirkman’s story or something? idk.
I just wanna say, poor FTWD fans who watched recently. Writers/Gimple/AMC? litterally just scraped off the original storyline of the Clarks family for to focus on newbies, Morgan. So it’s a spinoff show within the show. ( It’s like TWD in s9 will be doing...with changing to Daryl’s) Anyways that’s really awful to the FTWD fans to suddenly to change the storyline. That’s like ..probably something I would just quit the show ..It’s something to feel like I won’t the trust the writers. Gotta have trust in the writers and the writers gotta gain your trust.
---------------------------------------------------
I was thinking about fandom stuff..and reading some posts. i guess i let it slide that the TWD show was going downhill early on. idk when. most say s6 is when it got worse. i always say that TWD was not the best but it was just a fun drama ensemble show for me. Well thats what fandoms do..they want the very best of the show/media. Also fandom is all opinions...it’s best not to read into it too much.
s2 is my fave season...even when I didn’t feel the TF love like on other shows or when I got annoyed with Shane/love triangle. (why is everything relate to OUAT wank. I learned a lot from that show/fandom. maybe just being deep in the fandom. it hurts more.) Ok like s2 or other seasons compared to s6-8 is different.. Different style and stuff-writers/showrunners.., idk. There are some good moments. It’s also like based on the comics’ story. Most say s5 is the best is what comic fans say is loving the Hunters arc. (s3 and the prison arc-tho i dont like this season). So yeah ..kinda depends on the comics and it’s all show business. Kinda hard to compare or not idk, Kirkman’s comic story may be better because it’s original and flows better naturally. There’s more personal intimate moments with like 5 main characters but the show got other good parts too. (better medium story telling) idk. like the show has Carol and other plots went better, but lack TF moments and many dull characters. Also Kirkman isnt the best writer either so...idk what im saying. TWDG telltale game has the best storytelling. tho super depressing but also got realistic moments.
Just idk Oh well. I watched TWD for the main characters, Caryl, Carol. But lately things are not happening like I want or like it was in s5-6. There’s Less TF (like how the comics are..tho s9/after AOW was hopeful but AL and LC wanna leave.)Caryl and Carol/ TF interactions or Carol part of main plot haven’t happened since s6 and Idk if we come back to that. Like will Caryl’s relationship grow and does Carol and TF moment return-like will we have Carick moments? SIGH Waiting and hoping. It’s tiring. do whatever you want. I’m still a fan of Caryl, Carol/TF/Carick, Richonne.
Idk I’m just bummed and having a hard time with s9 and yet Rick and Maggie are leaving. Yeah ..I just wish I have an ending to just end it but I don’t have one. There’s no end...Idk it’s hard to make an ending to stop and to not hope or expect more.
I want to not watch s9 yet I want/hope this TWD AU to end it right..blah. I guess till I get more info ..wait and see...
Whatever this rollercoaster ride continues and I probably rant again soon. :P

So about Javier in TWD
I get that games have such a pathetically small number of characters that are LGBT that Javi being bi kind of seems like it should be a big deal, and look I'd love to see the fandom fixing the problems of ANF, but I’m seeing people actually saying that Javi as presented in ANF is a good example of representation and
He’s not.
He just.... he isn’t. Not saying the fanbase couldn’t or shouldn’t expand on his character in fan-fic/fan-art/headcanons/whatever or even that people shouldn’t be happy to have a canonically bi character, but within the text itself, nothing about him is good representation for bi people or the LGBT community. And my goal here isn’t to make you feel bad for being happy, but to suggest that maybe we should push developers to actually give us good representation, and that praising them when they do the barest minimum might not exactly be helpful.
And I get the instinct to praise Telltale. Hell, as someone who is bi I was actually really put off by how DONTNOD presented Max’s sexuality as being either gay or straight based on player choice in Life Is Strange, and then the fact that there’s basically no other characters in mainstream games who are bi, so I 100% get the instinct to be happy about Javi being bi and praising Telltale.
But here’s the thing: In Episodes 1-4, there are no hints of Javi being bi. He flirts with Kate, Eleanor, and kind of Ava, but his behavior towards Tripp and Jesus is very different, and there’s no sense of his flirty/charming behavior that we see with most of the female characters. For most of the season, Javi is pushed into a relationship with Kate(no matter how many times you choose to avoid that, characters will keep talking about it and it becomes central to the conflict in Episode 5). There’s just, nothing for the majority of the season. In fact, there’s nothing for the majority of Episode 5. The only scene within the season itself that suggests anything is a short exchange with Jesus that is mostly played off as a joke and goes nowhere.
And then the writer of episode 5 confirms that Javi is bi on the Telltale forums.
So, there’s nothing for the majority of the season, and what is there is played off as a joke and leads to nothing. I’m sorry guys, but a joke scene lading to a writer confirming his sexuality on a forum is not good representation, it is the barest minimum Telltale could have done, and rather than praise them, maybe hold them(and the games industry in general) to a little more of a higher standard? I don’t know, the whole situation is really... uncomfortable.
Again, I love seeing the fanbase rallying around Javi, he as a character was probably the best part of ANF, but praising Telltale for doing basically nothing(especially since they really haven’t gotten any better with their portrayals of disability/mental illness/autism since Season Two) feels a little uncomfortable to me and I’d just like to suggest that maybe we shouldn’t be praising them because a guy on a forum said something.

Scopely addresses fan protest in The Walking Dead: Road to Survival mobile game
Running a free-to-play mobile game isn’t easy. Lots of fans download the game, and sometimes they make a lot of demands. Scopely has learned that, as it is facing another fan spending boycott and protest in its four-year-old mobile game The Walking Dead: Road to Survival.
It’s not the first time this has happened in The Walking Dead: Road to Survival. Players staged boycotts in 2017 and later, in the hopes of getting Scopely to act on fixing bugs and making the game more equitable and enjoyable.
“We are once again staging a protest on the game due to the lack of basic gameplay updates while the company focuses more on loot boxes and monetized spending in the game,” said Kristen Riley, a player, in an email to GamesBeat. “We previously had come together as a community back in 2017 when you did the original article and we received something similar. A letter filled with promises from [Scopely] was received but the letter was just a letter with the vast majority of what he said never actually happened. We want to see action occur this time.”
Scopely responded with a politely worded letter, acknowledging the dedication of the fans who are still playing the game after four years. Such boycotts and protests have happened before in games like Marvel Contest of Champions and Modern War, and they usually hold important lessons for game developers, particularly those who reach millions of players and can’t possibly respond in a personal way when and if all of them start complaining at once.

It is difficult to tell whether a boycott by the high-level clans will make an impact or not on the game. More than 48 million players (the company says 45 million) have downloaded the game, and they have spent more than $325 million since 2015, according to estimates by measurement firm Sensor Tower. Scopely itself does not disclose revenues.
That comes out to $6.77 per fan over four years. On a per-day basis, that comes out to 0.00463 in dollars spent. The fans say that more than 1,500 players have agreed to the spending boycott, said Peter Mai, another player who has joined the boycott. That’s about 3.3 percent of the players. If those players have stopped spending, then Scopely is losing about $6.95 per day.
The game still has a 4.2 rating out of 5 on both iOS and Android reviews. But the company is taking the boycott seriously.
In a statement, Los Angeles-based Scopely said, “Our players are our top priority. We continue to iterate on our games to create the best player experience possible. TWD has seen over 45 million installs globally and continues to see a hugely passionate and engaged community. We’ve also been working on a number of TWD updates to allow for even more community input and visibility.”
Above: Scopely combines base building, resource management, and turn-based battles in Walking Dead: Road to Survival.

The company added, “The feedback from the forum is well articulated to help us drive change and our team is dedicated to delivering a long-term, rewarding game experience that players love. We are very active members of the TWD player community, and responded to the group that we hear their feedback and take it seriously.”
Scopely has made changes to the game in the past couple of years, including upgrading its customer service team, and direct communication with fans on its Discord channels, where developers talk with players every day.
And that sounds like a good use of money. While the numbers cited above are average figures, the fans from the top clans are not average. They’re big spenders. In most free-to-play games, 98% of fans spend nothing. If that rule holds true here, then only 960,000 have ever spent money. If you divided the $325 million spent by 960,000, you get about $338.54 over four years, or 23.1 cents per day.
youtube
That would mean the boycott of 1,500 fans costs Scopely about $346.50 per day, or about $10,395 per month. Again, these are miniscule numbers. But if the boycott grew 1,000-fold among the top players, you could see how it would really impact the game.
But unhappy fans can have an outsized impact on a company’s image. Some fans have been outspoken on social media, and that doesn’t help Scopely’s brand reputation.
For sure, you can’t make all the fans happy all of the time. It’s hard to maintain older games with declining audiences, even as a company like Scopely has to support new games like Star Trek: Fleet Command. But the company isn’t saying that its older fans are less important than its newer ones.
“It takes a lot to build, maintain, and operate a rewarding experience for all of you, and we appreciate you working with us on next steps,” Scopely said in its letter to fans. “We will start by crafting this vision with all of you now; however, please know this process will take time and will evolve as we go.”

“It takes a lot to build, maintain, and operate a rewarding experience for all of you, and we appreciate you working with us on next steps,” Scopely said in its letter to fans. “We will start by crafting this vision with all of you now; however, please know this process will take time and will evolve as we go.”

That would mean the boycott of 1,500 fans costs Scopely about $346.50 per day, or about $10,395 per month. Again, these are miniscule numbers. But if the boycott grew 1,000-fold among the top players, you could see how it would really impact the game.

Omg I discovered ur blog last night and I binge read everything! Ur writing is so good! I hope u don't mind if I ask u; have u ever gotten hate for liking Jane? If so, how do u deal with it? I'd personally like to start writing fics including her, but I've gotten anon hate just for saying that I like her. I've also been berated by others in a TWD discord server for being a Jane fan and hcing her as pan. I'm sorry if this is a pesky question, I'm just skittish when it comes to these things cjkskd
Heya! Thank you for taking the time to write out such a wonderfully thought out question, it’s very humbling you’ve asked me such a thought provoker!
Unfortunately, I totally have gotten hate for loving Jane’s charcater. I’m not shy about my opinions on, well, anything really. If I have an opinion, no matter how controversial it may be, I want to share it and try and share it with people that are as into the games as I am. For example, I also get a huge amount of flak for leaving Lee to turn in No Time Left, and for siding with Lilly over Kenny, and for thinking the ‘Make Them Leave’ ending is the best ending to No Going Back.
It comes down to the fact that people are very passionate about what they believe in, and I think a lot of people don’t realise that that passion can turn vitriolic and put people off the idea of supporting the fandom. Personally, I never go on the Walking Dead subreddit or the forums any more, because of the toxicity those communities in particular have. I haven’t had any hate on Tumblr, as of yet, but there’s still time!
While I don’t headcanon Jane as being pansexual (mostly either straight or a little bit bisexual, but that’s a seperate thing altogether), I absolutely get a lot of vitriol for writing her. One of my reviews for a story had a complaint that Kenny wasn’t mentioned enough, despite the fact that it was a story focussing on Jane and Clem post Season Two. I’ve had messages telling me to kill myself for liking a different fictional character to the majority of the playerbase.
However, I find Jane to be a really fascinating character - and, deep down, I think she’s a total sweetheart but she’s too uncomfortable to show it. Headcanon’s are great!
I think if people thought for a second that liking Jane and liking Kenny weren’t mutually exclusive, the fandom would be much better for it. Right now, it feels like you have to ‘pick a side’, despite the fact I see good qualities in both of them.
Thank you very much for reading my blog and my fanfic, it means the world to me! It’s definitely not a pesky question at all. If you’d like to add me on Discord to talk some more, my tag is BHBrowne#1804. Please come say ‘hi’! Have a lovely day :)
