Genuinely debating just deleting all my accounts and starting new doing something else because I am miserable. The Castlevania fandom is the worst fandom I’ve ever been in my whole life.

First time I started being a fan of it I was a young teenager. At the time I was heavily suicidal, playing SotN is what got me distracted enough not to do it. Started out with Instagram because that’s where I heard most people went to start an art portfolio and do commissions.

First few months of being a fan of the series the hashtags were frozen due to the election happening, so I, a suicidal teenager, was immediately subjected to graphic gore porn of my favorite character (Simon) who I turned to looking up for comfort that was stuck there until the hashtags were unfrozen. For months I could not turn to my source of comfort without seeing that, and turned to dissociating even worse than I already was instead. That was the first red flag.

After this I had some sincerely good experiences with some live streams. Genuinely nice people doing cosplay and gaming. But there was one person I watched who did not end up as good as everyone else. This person followed me, liked my outfit stories, talked to me in chat. I was still in high school. Not gonna go into details for anonymity’s sake, but long story short I got groomed. And at around the same time I had made another “friend” in the fandom who turned out to be homophobic and would take out all their problems on me, a teen, while they were a grown ass adult. Instagram continued to get worse. Found out someone I was close to made some racist rant behind my back. Found out another was a MAP. So on and so forth. And the worst part is how many people I knew who were close friends with these people, people who would not have believed me if I’d told them. Especially since some of them were more popular than I.

So I gave up on Insta, stopped posting, stopped talking, and I got a discord. Which started out fine! Found a small server of nice fans, made good friendships I still have. I had Reddit for a short amount of time and found out how dogshit it is when a smaller server I thought was cool started bullying a small artist for drawing gay fanart. I use it purely for game dev and vocaloid help questions now. Eventually I got the courage to come here, to tumblr. Months into that move I run into CP. And then several TERFs. And then a necrophile in the main tags. And then misogyny. And then racism. And then defending CP. Then a surge of transphobia. And then I get shit for getting the courage to call out CP. I try to go to YouTube to find content and escape— run into out in the open slurs and people bluntly claiming albino people aren’t human in comment sections about Juste. I try to watch videos and see the art of my groomer being used everywhere. I am constantly reminded that I am outnumbered.

I go back to discord. The main mod of it ends up interacting creepily with minors and is transphobic to my friends. Whole server blows up. Large amount of people take the mod’s side and blacklist us from a large amount of servers, gossiping about everyone involved to completely unrelated people while not telling the whole truth, all while being horrifically transphobic about a friend. Someone else in the server turns out to be an abusive piece of shit. I don’t even try making a twitter because it’s a hellhole anyway, and someone I’d know about from most other platforms I’d been on harassed a friend of mine on there. Not to mention the transphobic roleplay account that’s still around somehow.

I swear I have to block a new person in this fandom every. single. day. I swear some bullshit happens in this fandom every. single. day.

I want to draw a vampire hunter and not be absolutely thoroughly terrified that I am going to run into more vile shit and dangerous situations if I talk to anyone. I want to draw a vampire hunter and not be deeply afraid of meeting new people in this fandom. I want to draw a vampire hunter and not have my paranoia confirmed every day. I want to draw a vampire hunter and find comfort in doing so again.

Is that too much to ask.

do ao3 people know that gay people who dont know what ao3 is exist. like i dont think a fanfiction website is gay culture or whatever in fact a demonstrable amount of fanfic authors are heterosexual women. but even if they werent its like a niche subset of a niche subculture that means absolutely nothing to hate groups. for the record. also a lot of ao3 fic is just like actively homophobic transphobic racist etc so i dont know what all this is. look inward.

I have a really important question

So, as some of you may know, I'm creating an entirely-told-through-comic story of my rewrite of Disney's Wish. My rewrite changes Asha's personality to fit with who I enjoy to see in media, edits her design to make her less generic and more representational of the culture she is from, and adds a Starboy to act as her foil and trigger her character arc (as she does to him). Asha in The Fallen Star is a spoiled, Kusco-like princess insistent on getting her wish to become the greatest sorceress granted by her adoptive father, King Magnus. She doesn't care much for the people of her kingdom and yet still expects them to obey her every command. She's rude, self-centered, and sassy.

Now, I'm 100% on Korean, which means I am not black at all. So I've been doing some research about black culture and traditions to make sure I'm accurately representing Asha, even if it is in my own silly little rewrite. A great account I recommend following is @creatingblackcharacters, as they have so many good resources for writing black characters, especially if you're not poc.

For example, I cut out a scene where some children in Rosas braided Asha's hair with flowers (a reference to Tangled) because I learned that hair is a very important thing in black culture. I didn't want Asha to protest having people she was uncomfortable with do her hair because Starboy told her to be nice. Her braids are a special thing that connects her to her birth parents, and respecting that boundary was more important than shoving a reference in for me.

Now, I recently came across another article addressing the "angry black woman" stereotype in media. A pretty famous example of this is that patronizing and racist comic panel of Serena Williams. Essentially, the stereotype is suggesting that a black woman being angry is because she's a "beast" and "can't control her emotions" instead of thinking why she could be justifiably angry.

Here's the thing. TFS!Asha gets angry. She yells. She throws things and lashes out at people. She has visible muscles and a strong build. She makes threats and hurls insults. She loses control of herself at times. She has panic attacks and is closed-off and rude after she comes out of them. She's Kusco on steroids, basically, if Kusco was fueled by not only wayyyy to much self-confidence, but fear that if he didn't guard his heart, it would get shattered.

Part of Asha's arc is her learning to move forward (not move on) from her trauma as a child, when Stars rained down and killed her parents. She puts up with more stuff and learns to temper her anger, but she's still passionate. She's still witty and sarcastic. She's just opened herself up to other people, now.

Now here's my question: do you think my Asha is the "angry black woman" stereotype?

I can't think of any examples off the top of my head where this is shown nicely in media. If you do think that Asha is a caricature, please please tell me what could be improved! I really want to make sure I'm respectful of Asha's Amazigh heritage and to actually showcase parts of that if I can.

Every day I find out another person I care about in some way is a terrible person why the hell do I keep getting attached to horrible people—

One friend suddenly started to be homophobic when they got comfortable enough with me, another started to get super pissed off if I ever had to end a conversation earlier than three hours and would constantly want me to solve all their problems, another I thought was cool until I found out they’d been being racist on twitter and I couldn’t see it cause I don’t have a twitter account, another (an adult) followed me and was friends with me when I was a teenager and literally waited until I was 18 to start hitting on me, multiple people I tried to make friends with in a couple different fandoms I’ve found out were writing and circulating CP or just in general porn addicted, and another started up drama that included using a friend’s trauma they opened up about as reference to write and draw CP and cheating on their spouse, a couple ended up saying transphobic shit around me, I recently found out one was racist enough to be calling for death to people, one of my old middle school friends turned into a complete dick in high school and I found out recently is in jail—

And even outside of people I’ve actually known personally, it seems like every musician, artist, YouTuber, actor etc. are all either dying or rapidly being outed as absolutely horrible of all kinds and it’s just fucking disheartening man.

I’m getting genuinely paranoid of talking to or trusting people at all lately, it’s been insane. I don’t even wanna use instagram anymore and tumblr hasn’t been all that much better tbh. I’m starting to lose all motivation for anything too.

No but, when people just call our country the most 'horrible' one, when people think that our country is filled with 'predators', when people think that guys in our country are lustful and crap, when crappy media thinks that our country is the most poorest, when it criticize our government's decisions, how our religion taught nothing but to assault, but forget that there are problems within their own country, like how women are assaulted everywhere, how to resolve their 'immigration' problem, how people (irrespective of their nationality) are being more vile!

And yes, I'm talking about crappy topics, like Canada (no hate, tho. I just don't like that prime minister cause he blamed my country without any evidence), Western media (always eager to see the 'bad' side of our country, to earn money), people with ignorance and hatred, r*cist bananas who grew up with a low-standard life.

Not to mention that I was s*xually harassed online by two faggots (far worse than viruses), and yet one of them had to 🤮 because of my nationality. Too bad, I know where they are from.

So much for calling my dad and my male cousins 'predators'.

F*ck Canada and Britain, f*ck that Canadian prime minister, f*ck rasicm and all those racist who have discriminated my religion. I hope they suffer and rot!

P.S: I love people, but some of them just don't deserve my love and respect. You can block me or unfollow me if you want to, but don't insult me if I'm from a country which you don't like. And Western media should focus on their own countries, not on ours. We can handle on our own.

Hey, so I'd really appreciate some help with something.

I am really close to my great aunt and uncle. My great uncle is currently not doing so well but that's not really what I wanna talk about.

But they are pretty racist, transphobic, homophobic and just a lot of things like that, but I still really care about them because I've known them all my life, and I know they care about me a lot as well.

Would I be in the wrong if I continued to hold them in a similar light as before I figured out about their xenophobia? I'm perfectly ready/comfortable to remain closeted to them, and I don't really want to argue with them about it?

Should I do anything? Sorry for the long post I'm kinda struggling here.

EDIT: Pre-Morrison Talia and Bruce were an actual in love couple with real honest chemistry and romance. And in the original story the child that will become Damian is conceived out of this very intense love.

When Morrison wrote the story, they didn't at all reread or actually look at the story they were referencing, which is how we get the Talia drugged Bruce and stole his sperm story. Which is just a lot of demonizing of a brown woman, it's out of character for her, and it's also reduces Talia to nothing but a pawn of her father with no moral compass of her own. Just generally bad, racist, sexist writing. And Morrison has said as much. The person who wrote it has said that they regret writing it and that it was bad and racist writing.

Anyone else ever noticed how the weirdly buff foreigner men (who I'm guessing are white) always say something racist regarding E class "speaking in their language"? For example, during the pole toppling chapter:

"There's a guy that can speak the standard dialect."

I don't think I have to explain why this is racist.. And even in the fucking sub they say shit like this:

It's just so strange, why is it such an "aha!" moment that an asian person can speak english? I get that they they mainly speak Japanese but like, seriously?? It's even worse when it's used as some shitty character development point for Karma trying to protect Yada:

It's genuinely disgusting that this is one of the scenes where Karma's development shows, and imo this wasn't even GOOD development, there were definitely better scenes for him.

Now I'm not going to show these scenes because they are absolutely revolting, but to push a plot point where a female student is being harmed in vile ways and making it out to be a good thing because "at least she was saved and nothing actually happened" is genuinely the worst and most disgusting points in AssClass. On top of the men sexually harrassing Yada, they were fetishizing her and pushing the racial stereotype of Japanese women being submissive and obedient. This is also played off as a JOKE, and that the men were just "teasing" them. What kind of sick fuck makes jokes like that?

Not only do these men basically threaten to SA a CHILD, spew RACIST BULLSHIT, and having her classmate be nice to them in order for things to not escalate, but it turns out to be a joke and everything is just...okay?? This shit is so REAL and HORRIFYING, especially as an asian person who's AFAB. This isn't fantastic or mind blowing character development, it's just racism and fetishization being overlooked.

If you want to actually write these kinds of scenes properly, actually address the problem, because this shit isn't okay.
