Here’s my shot of legendary performer and actress Nichelle Nichols at the World Premiere of ''Star Trek: Renegades''. I’ve shot Nichelle a couple of times over the years. Her roll of Lt. Uhura on the original Star Trek was ground breaking and influential in breaking barriers for people of color. She was 4th in command on Starship Enterprise. In the 1970s and 1980s, Nichelle was employed by NASA. She was in charge of astronaut recruitment. This shot of mine happened after she’d flown with scientists and educators on board the high-flying telescope, called SOFIA. She has many accomplishments I haven’t detailed here. Always remember Uhura means freedom! Today Nichelle is 88!
