Solarpunk and the Internet Or: How to Unfuck the Internet?

Okay, I just gotta talk about this. Because it is actually quite a headache.

How do we unfuck the internet?

Because let's face it, right now the internet is a fucking shitshow for so many different reasons. For the most part because it is so centralized on just a few platforms - and those are very much controlled by advertizers and in many cases also some algorithms that are basically a blackbox for the users.

I first got access to the internet in 1999, though I only started using it for real in 2001, because only in 2001 I got access to somewhat higher speed internet. (The kind where you could at least show a jpg without waiting 10 minutes for it to load). Hence: I do remember the time when everyone was mostly communicating through forums, while a lot of people had their own pages and where there were tons of different fansites out there to a variety of topics.

And sure, there are still some fansites out there, but a lot of that these days is actually channeled through all sorts of Wikis, rather than classical fansites. While a lot of the other stuff is somewhat centralized.

And don't get me wrong. Technically speaking that centralization is not a bad thing. It allows you to see a lot more fanworks, for example, than otherwise. And as a creative it allows you in turn to get more eyes on your stuff. But we do have to reckon with both the thing about algorithms and the fact how much it controls what we can post.

Basically there are right now not many platforms on which you can post explicit fanwork, or generally anything explicit in forms of creation.

And outside of the creative sphere there is always a good chance that a lot of information can be suppressed on those centralized platforms. We have seen the stuff of people posting about Palestine being banned from a variety of platforms for all sorts of vague reasons.

Sure, a lot would probably be unfucked, when the platforms would be handed to the people. That is rather than being controlled by some CEOs and boards of directors be controlled by the community itself.

But there is also the two-sided issue of the centralization. Because on one hand it is good. Because information can travel a lot further and a lot faster with it. Still, it also does bring a variety of issues with it, that are... less easy to solve.

For example the quick proliferation of information can also lead to a lot of misinformation spreading. Something that has definitely been increased through social media being a thing.

And exactly that is the point that gives me a headache.

The internet is amazing. Especially from a solarpunk point of view. You can share information online for free. You can also use it to help with organizing of stuff. You can connect with people all over the world so easily.

But there are also some inherent dangers - and I am not sure that we have the ability to tackle them right now.

I'm gonna vent again because I just keep falling into it.

Every day is the same day, but I go to work and resort to making home my blueprint, trying to find a way out. Once I get my current writings done then I'll feel at some sort of peace with having tried. But every day I come home and I go straight for the shower and my dad goes "Who's there?" or something stupid and I get tired of it because it's every damn day and you still don't get the routine? Yeah, it's me, get over it, I'm half naked already by the time it takes you to notice.

I don't say hi because it's like I never left, I live here for gosh sake, it's not like they're gonna throw me a party, it's not like I have any news or conversation, we don't eat with each other or have those pass the salt moments, you saw me 3 hours ago for lunch. But because I didn't fake anything and just said "yeah" my dad thinks he's looking into it and says "well that was a sad yeah." or something along those lines. "Yeah, it's nothing. I don't know what you want." and he digs deeper and he asks if I'm mad. Of course, I wasn't mad before this but pointing it out does indeed make me mad because it reminds me that "oh yeah, there is something going on and I can't do anything to stop it." He pries and has the balls to ask for money all in the same breadth and I just say to leave me alone for a while so I can get over it.

I shower, eat, play a game to get it out, my dad seemed to drop it and show me his plane jpg that he saved on his computer that he was excited about and all isn't so bad...then he comes back and he does that ear grating knock, I don't know how to describe it but you know exactly what it is, it's a classic tune of pop goes the weasel or something I don't know. But I turn because I already know who does that knock and I already know this situation is about to be brought up again. It was.

The thing about someone talking about being angry is that it's not just me having a conversation with you, it's me having a conversation with myself and you at the same time which turns into an internal fight that goes beyond our conversation and I try to decide how to mediate it. "Fighting myself, I always lose" but he says that he has a suggestion and it's a kicker. Whether I considered online dating. And I was like- "yeah". I didn't clarify that I tried very nearly every site without paying and ended up deleting them all because they sucked. Here's just one of them. It wasn't really the way I wanted to go about it anyway, it was more to experience what it was but he ticked that "since I don't go out and do anything." uh, yeah, I just said that and complained that that's part of what's wrong with me and said I don't have enough money to do anything like that to which you responded to give you money. So he says that I'm getting in my own way.

What do you want from me? Now I'm all unsettled again. I flicked it off and said that I didn't want to talk about it. I didn't want to explain my love struggles or what I really think. I've considered getting a therapist but insurance is a fraud anyway, I don't even know why I have it if I still need-

So I guess premiums don't count? I get all my pills at a discounted price ($60 a bottle which isn't great but better than list 325) so it was either 11+ bottles of pills to finally hit the mark or use the coupon, I couldn't do both apparently to make it count. You see why I get so worked up? That 125 is actually the therapy charge that was supposed to be free for the first visit...I reported it as fraudulent on my card so it might not even stay there. Shouldn't I get rewarded for not getting hurt? Like wtf. Next you're gonna tell me that people in my area are getting hurt more often so my rates have gone up. The therapist wasn't very helpful either, I might've talked about it already, I don't know. Therapy would be a perfect excuse to build up that deductible but-3700 could be used towards so much, I just can't submit to subscribe to anything.

I saw Scrooge McDuck saying that money shouldn't be dormant, it needs to circulate and that's true if everyone does it and I like that theory but where can I put it to work? Where can I spend to make? I don't like gambling and that's basically stocks so...I'm not sure what specifics he had in mind.

LANCES AND LACES! Thank you for bringing this up! I figured the books had significance, I just haven't really thought much anout it before. And ok, I don't really know what that book is about (literally tried to find it online and failed, someone help?), but it's clearly a romance, and they show us that Harper is in the middle of the book. So if we're looking at her as Dean there, can we also see that as (yet another) mirror that he's in the middle of a romance? I'm so curious as to what the plot line is of that book, and why they chose to show us the title so clearly, in its own shot apart from Harper. The same way they showed Dean turning that red rooster as a separate image.

Harper goes from a Cas mirror, to a toxic!dean mirror, to a, shall we say, present!dean mirror? And then she writes a letter to Jack, basically saying they'll be together one day.

I still feel unable to analyze this properly. Why make that shift in mirroring?

The letter writing was pretty clear. Harper is indicating to us and Jack that they're story isn't over. She wants a new love. Her old love is nailed in his coffin (not like she couldn't go rescue him?) and she's choosing Jack and a new life.

But why dress her as Cas to begin with and then slowly make the switch over? (Pics below to show you) the second image is hard to tell, but she's wearing a dark plaid shirt with the red tie. Then she puts the red jacket on over top.

Then in that last image, she has her green sweater on, and two books in front of her as she's writing her letter. Probably safe to assume she grabbed the one she's in the middle of reading. She wants to see how this love story plays out.

"What do you want?" started us off this season, and the further into the episodes we get, it seems like the response is: Love and to be happy.

Dean wants to have LOVE in his life, and to be HAPPY.

Working Traumas 14x04/14x05/14x06 spoiler

Hi my dear fandom! Here i am again! I’m like a cockroach… Hard to kill. 😏

So… What am I doing here…? I want to present all of you… This Hunter Fable.

“Once upon a time there was a boy that has to growth quick, raise his brother and become a strong hunter, bc he was his father’s legacy. And this was his flag in life and his purpose… He was the righteous man, as his father was… He made bad decisions that lead him to hell… In there, he begins to make bad decisions again, till one day he was rescued by an angel… And he met this angel in that barn, one day, and since then… His journey to a growth and self acceptance… Slowly begins to shine…”

Did you notice in this season how each episode is about working one by one Dean’s traumas trying to kill this old Dean he has inside? Well I did, and I was thinking, oh well this is like a journey, you know, bc he started with Michael Possession, the monster inside of home trying to figure out what Dean wants… So here I will write this big steps that Dean is making in this journey through the pain.

14x04: Mint Condition: Working the FEARS

As I said before there was a monster in each episode, representing some kind of trauma/issue inside Dean’s head, in this episode of interpretate this monster from a HORROR movie was Dean’s fears, and is so so interesting how the monster can switch to be John Winchester or AUMichael, or just fears, and toxicity. The fight was so interesting, because Dirk was in the morgue and all of the sudden one of the corpses wake up and is the monster that you thought you left behind and now is inside the room with you 😏 and bc the Monster was drowning Dean just as Michael did…. And he couldn’t get rid from him, he needed Sam’s help.

So FEARS are so intense for Dean… That red was everywhere here… Danger.

14x05 Nightmare Logic: Working Father issues

I talked extensively about this topic in my others Dean’s metas. But basically, we all saw AUBobby mirroring John so so hard. He was judging Sam’s actions as a leader. And Dean was all the time defending his brother, and giving him the encouraging words he would love to hear from John. So this is a very huge impediment to Dean’s self acceptance. Is a big rock that blocks his path in this journey. That punishing voice is all the time in Dean’s head. He is the cause of his guilt and bad management of trauma. And this voice is the cause too for him repressing his feelings. This wrong and toxic idea of what a man should be. But this…

Yes!! He is saying words that he needs to hear and learn. Again. Projecting himself in Sammy and Sasha. This, my dear fandom, is working the traumas. He’s learning from himself, in each episode, this Hunter Fable is about learning the teaching from his life…

14x06 Optimism: Accepting True Love in his life ( Castiel)

So, not for nothing this episode was about a library, with pictures of fables in the walls… And like my dear friend @mrsaquaman187 pointed me, there was this picture with this specific legend on it… It said “Live and Learn”

We had too Charlie reading a lot of book showing us that books are necessary for learning…

So obviously this episode was full of books, and a librarian named Harper, that just wanted to be loved, she was mirroring Dean all the way and dressed in red meanwhile she was doing this… “I’ll keep alive my first toxic love that should be already dead”.

So she delivered to Jack ( mirror of Castiel) the BOOK THAT JACK NEEDED, and that book was in her room.

This is the book…

Gral McCook bibliography. And the episode begins with a take from the camera to Gral. McCook statue, in McCook town.

This honorable man was a righteous military man that fought in the Civil War… Do you remember someone similar to him?? Yes. John Winchester. So… Here we are again… Harper Trying to keep alive this toxic wrong love and loving this book about the Righteous man… OLD DEAN IMPEDIMENTS TO FREELY LOVE CASTIEL!!

But then when Jack and her were running away, Jack put the book on a bank in the street, like letting that thing that was just bothering him. And immediately he took Harper hand and ran into the library. I WANT YOU MAKING ALL THE SYMBOLIC CONNECTION WITH THIS SCENE, bc… He doesn’t drop that on the ground, just put the book gently in the bank, with respect for it. I mean… If it’s representing JOHN WINCHESTER THE RIGHTEOUS MAN, he is Dean and Sam’s s father, even if he is one of the big impediment in Dean’s head to finally love Cas without attachment… He’s still their father so… This is so meaningful, the book is not dropped, is just left behind on the bank.

Once in the library what happened was symbolic too, bc Harper OPENED THE DOOR TO HIS TOXIC PAST AND THIS ZOMBIE GAVE HER THE BOOK AGAIN! I MEAN!! This is Dean coming back all over again to this big issue, embracing him, not letting go. This toxic idea of what a man should be, this toxic idea about NOT TALKING OF THE L WORD AND NOT FEELING IT FOR A MAN!

And then, Harper take this book in her hands…

The title says “LANCES AND LACES” DO I have to explain myself more?? Bc…

And who is in the portrait??

Sorry for the bad resolution… But even so… THAT’S CAS!!!!! I mean… COME ON!

And is a romantic novel, and in this Chapter was everything about LOVE AND FIRST ENCOUNTER AND DESTIEL and, and…

This story ended like this…

The girl that was all the episode in red… Making the bad choice trying to keep something that was already dead as the love of his life, now in the end is dressed in GREEN, and accepting the real and pure love in her heart.

This… Is a good good mirror and foreshadow for our Dean…

Bc he was talking about the “L” world all the episode with Jack, and remembering Cas all the way. Bc he was teaching Jack about LOVE bc he know EXACTLY WHAT BEING IN LOVE MEANS. BC HE LOVES CAS.

“… And by teaching this young man about love, the hunter was learning about it too and accepting inside of him this love.”

Ok… This is the Hunter Fable, and we saw and will see how Dean is changing, he will left behind all toxicities one by one, we saw him in this three episodes doing so well! in the last one I was surprised bc he was talking about the ‘L’ word so comfortable with it… And His smiles in all of this episodes…

… all these smiles are for Cas…

… and they are telling us that he is trying to heal, he needs to. Bc healing means break up from his emotional prison.

He is opening himself to his brother, slowly, trying to find the way to express him his feelings… His fears… Tryin to talk with him about how he feels bout Cas?? I think so…

And then… We will have this talk with his angel. He wants it. He really wants to do it. But he has some issues to work yet…

In the next episode I sense he will work THE GUILT. That a big big thing he has inside since ever. Maybe taking care of Jack… Or keeping teaching him about being human… That will help him to work all of this guilt.

“Life is a journey, with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all, experiences to enjoy.”

With​ ​the​ ​rise​ ​of​ ​the​ ​internet,​ ​terms​ ​and​ ​conditions​ ​have​ ​become​ ​to​ ​play​ ​a​ ​big​ ​part​ ​in​ ​our​ ​online  activity.​ ​But​ ​do​ ​we​ ​take​ ​it​ ​seriously?​ ​Do​ ​we​ ​know​ ​what​ ​we​ ​have​ ​even​ ​agreed​ ​to?​ ​Chances​ ​are​ ​no!  Is​ ​this​ ​going​ ​to​ ​come​ ​back​ ​on​ ​us​ ​and​ ​make​ ​us​ ​regret​ ​not​ ​taking​ ​time​ ​out​ ​to​ ​read?​ ​Possibly​ ​yes.  The​ ​message​ ​that​ ​I​ ​am​ ​to​ ​portray​ ​is​ ​the​ ​danger​ ​of​ ​agreeing​ ​to​ ​the​ ​terms​ ​and​ ​conditions​ ​and​ ​to  hope​ ​that​ ​people​ ​will​ ​stop​ ​and​ ​think​ ​a​ ​little​ ​more​ ​on​ ​agreeing.   

The​ ​software​ ​involved​ ​in​ ​making​ ​this​ ​gift​ ​involved​ ​adobe​ ​photoshop​ ​and​ ​Adobe​ ​animate.​ ​As​ ​it  came​ ​to​ ​the​ ​glitching​ ​I​ ​then​ ​used​ ​​https://snorpey.github.io/jpg-glitch/​​ ​.​ ​I​ ​tried​ ​keep​ ​the​ ​details​ ​as  simple​ ​as​ ​possible​ ​to​ ​not​ ​distract​ ​the​ ​user.​ ​To​ ​do​ ​this​ ​i​ ​kept​ ​the​ ​laptop​ ​screen​ ​up​ ​close​ ​to​ ​the  terms​ ​and​ ​conditions​ ​area​ ​and​ ​kept​ ​the​ ​box​ ​in​ ​the​ ​center​ ​of​ ​the​ ​screen.​ ​I​ ​didn't​ ​want​ ​the  animations​ ​to​ ​be​ ​too​ ​long​ ​so​ ​as​ ​soon​ ​as​ ​the​ ​box​ ​is​ ​ticked​ ​the​ ​screen​ ​beings​ ​to​ ​glitch​ ​giving​ ​the  dreaded​ ​feeling.​ ​It​ ​then​ ​turns​ ​to​ ​a​ ​screen​ ​of​ ​scrolling​ ​binary​ ​with​ ​a​ ​devilish​ ​face​ ​appearing​ ​and  laughing.​ ​This​ ​is​ ​to​ ​represent​ ​“signing​ ​your​ ​soul​ ​to​ ​the​ ​devil”.

#6.) John Quincy Adams (1825-1829) (Democratic-Republican)

“The great object of the institution of civil government is the improvement of the condition of those who are parties to the social compact, and no government, in whatever form constituted, can accomplish the lawful ends of its institution but in proportion as it improves the condition of those over whom it is established. Roads and canals, by multiplying and facilitating the communications and intercourse between distant regions and multitudes of men, are among the most important means of improvement. But moral, political, intellectual improvement are duties assigned by the Author of Our Existence to social no less than to individual man.

For the fulfillment of those duties governments are invested with power, and to the attainment of the end -- the progressive improvement of the condition of the governed -- the exercise of delegated powers is a duty as sacred and indispensable as the usurpation of powers not granted is criminal and odious.

Among the first, perhaps the very first, instrument for the improvement of the condition of men is knowledge, and to the acquisition of much of the knowledge adapted to the wants, the comforts, and enjoyments of human life public institutions and seminaries of learning are essential. So convinced of this was the first of my predecessors in this office, now first in the memory, as, living, he was first in the hearts, of our country- men, that once and again in his addresses to the Congresses with whom he cooperated in the public service he earnestly recommended the establishment of seminaries of learning, to prepare for all the emergencies of peace and war -- a national university and a military academy. With respect to the latter, had he lived to the present day, in turning his eyes to the institution at West Point he would have enjoyed the gratification of his most earnest wishes; but in surveying the city which has been honored with his name he would have seen the spot of earth which he had destined and bequeathed to the use and benefit of his country as the site for a university still bare and barren.

In assuming her station among the civilized nations of the earth it would seem that our country had contracted the engagement to contribute her share of mind, of labor, and of expense to the improvement of those parts of knowledge which lie beyond the reach of individual acquisition, and particularly to geographical and astronomical science. Looking back to the history only of the half century since the declaration of our independence, and observing the generous emulation with which the Governments of France, Great Britain, and Russia have devoted the genius, the intelligence, the treasures of their respective nations to the common improvement of the species in these branches of science, is it not incumbent upon us to inquire whether we are not bound by obligations of a high and honorable character to contribute our portion of energy and exertion to the common stock? The voyages of discovery prosecuted in the course of that time at the expense of those nations have not only redounded to their glory, but to the improvement of human knowledge.

We have been partakers of that improvement and owe for it a sacred debt, not only of gratitude, but of equal or proportional exertion in the same common cause. Of the cost of these undertakings, if the mere expenditures of outfit, equipment, and completion of the expeditions were to be considered the only charges, it would be unworthy of a great and generous nation to take a second thought. One hundred expeditions of circumnavigation like those of Cook and La Prouse would not burden the exchequer of the nation fitting them out so much as the ways and means of defraying a single campaign in war. but if we take into account the lives of those benefactors of man-kind of which their services in the cause of their species were the purchase, how shall the cost of those heroic enterprises be estimated, and what compensation can be made to them or to their countries for them? Is it not by bearing them in affectionate remembrance? Is it not still more by imitating their example -- by enabling country-men of our own to pursue the same career and to hazard their lives in the same cause?”

She smiled. “At least I’m not alone.”

The next day the group goes down to star labs. Cisco and caithlyn stand infront of the group with a covered table in the middle of the lab and a easel with some sort of presentation.

Barry had a grin on his face as if trying not to laugh at the way the set this up. It reminded him of a kid presenting for a grade in school.

Hayley sat on the ground playing with her doll, that her sister had made her in home economics yesterday. As Barry and the group got settled in the chair ready for them.

Hayley ran to her aunt caithlyn and pulled on her lab coat. As caithlyn turned Hayley excitedly showed her the doll, waving it in the air.

“Look what sister made me!” Hayley signed to her godmother, know she could sign.

“Beautiful!” Caithlyn signed back.

“Okay everyone!!” Cisco yelled standing at a podium. “It’s time for the presentation to begin. If you read your programs we have three really great inventions to help Hayley. “

Caithlyn elbowed Cisco.

“Okay one of them was already invented, “ Cisco admitted. “but we found it online and figured out how to do it ourselves. “

The silence

Hayley sat on the school bus, going home from her first day of her new elementary school. She was seven years old but incredible smart for age. She read the latest Steven King novel as she sat alone on the bus. As The bus driver listened to the news on his radio.

“There was been yet another robbery in downtown central city at the Fredrickson jewerey store.” the man on the radio reported. “ Acordding to security footage the theif is the same meta from the robbery at Kayla Gems on 5th avenue a few days ago. This meta had the ability to control people with her singing voice

Barry had told Hayley about this meta, his team had created an earpiece that would block out the specific tones that she used. So she wasn’t too worried, she figured her dad would save the day as usual.

When she got home, her mother had the TV in the kitchen turned to the news. She got dinner ready she listened to the report.

The news trucks had gathered on the scene to film the fight. It had become a new way to secure veiwers. Barry was already at the scene exchanging banter with the meta. The Mets made her move and began to sing her song. It was a high pitched, almost opreatic sound. but of course she was shocked when it had no effect. Barry smirked then speed toward her. He knocked her down but she got back up quickly. they began to fight between each other.

Hayley watched intently her eyes glued to the screen. She loved to watch her dad in action. She was so proud of him and idolized him more than anyone else.

The mets realized she didn’t stand a chance fighting without a little help. so she began to sing again, no words just a eire melody like greek siren. The meta moved aside , when Suddenly two men came along there eyes were pink, the color her victiams began under her control. The two men were also metas, one with one with a fire blaster and the other could bend air. The man with the fire shoot towards barry but he manged to dodges the attacks. The air meta forced a heavy force of wind toward the flash that knocked him over. More metas under her control appeared surrounding Barry. He kept fighting he did what he could to try and keep them away, but they kept attacking.

Eventually the battle began to be more than he could handle. After two hours of fighting the news video showed him on the ground bleeding from his face and his suit singed. He looked so helpless. He was even too weak to speed away. they just kept going and going they kept hitting him with everything they got. The meta that controlled fire made a fire ball appear from his own hand and forced it onto The flash leg, barry screetched in pain.

Hayley looked up at her mother and she could see she was scaried. She hugged her mother tightly.

Hayley had an idea, she knew it was stupid and didnt really think it would work. But she had to try, she couldnt just sit there and watch him die.

she speed out of the house without a word and she went to star labs. she may or may not have stolen the code to get in from her fathers wallet. as Hayley entered she saw Barrys team surounding the computers and talking into his ear.

“I want to help!” Hayley told them.

The all looked toward me with surpised expressions.

“Hayley-” Cisco started.

“Look i know i shouldn’t be here, but i really think he could use me.”

“No no.” Caithlyn replied. “Go home, Barry and Iris were very clear, they dont want you to getting into any of this superhero stuff right now. Putting you in this fight would be dangerous beyond reason.”

“Not if i can knock out the singing meta. “ Hayley told them. “If she goes out then her control on the men will stop too…probably…then dad can escape. I dont even have to use my powers, you guys have that knock out gun thing. I`ll be in and out in no problem! besides do you guys have any better ideas?”

“We cant send you out, Hayley e.” cisco told her. “If anything happened to you Barry would never forgive us. We called Arrow to come and help-”

“He`s gana take too long, dad needs help now!” she yelled.

She speed off grabbing the knock gun on her way out. not sure how it worked…minor issue.

Hayley appeared at the scene. Her dad was the first one to spot her, if he wasnt scaried before he was now. His eyes widened and his jaw dropped.

The singing meta turned toward me and cackled as she saw.

“Is this your rescue team? A little girl?” she laughed again.

“Hayley get out of here now!” barry yelled his voice firm and filled anger. “Go home…” as he spoke she could hear him straining with each word. “ I`ll be okay.”

“No, you need me!” Hayley shouted. “I wont let her hurt you!”

She gets ready to blast the gun, but as she shakily lifts the gun. The woman makes a screetching melody from her voice. It felt like knives being stuck into her ears. Hayley screamed in pain and fell to the floor. She could feel the blood dripping down her ears.
