Got to say watching this Turkish Actor who I have never seen anyother work from is pretty stunning, he reminds me of Tim Rozon a bit in some way, they both have that smoldering look and the the eyes but Akin Akinozu performace on the Turskish Drama Hercai is mindblowing, He plays the brooding and bad boy yet soft hearted broken man so well as Miran Aslambey which later reveals some mind droping feels if you havent seen it. Something about his performance and looks really just has me crushing on him alot lately. I never heard of Hercai till it started airing on Telemundo in the states but watching clips here and there I wanted more got so hooked but spanish isnt my language and the dubbing isnt bad but I wanted to understand it in english so searched for the english subtitled version and just been watching those. I think having a distraction from certain pain of loss has helped to deal with even though there are times that the pain will always be there from the loss of a father but Hercai love story and the struggles Miran and Reyyan have gone through shows that love can and will conqure any family drama even if it feels like a Romeo and Juliet story just with some twists and turns of enemies and fights and just amazing actors who have gotten so much popularity in the States now that is booming all over the world. Akin and Ebru who play Miran and Reyan as some what star crossed lovers and have that really great on set chemistry that alot of on screen couples have is great to watch, their love and the battles and fights they have faced always brings them back to eachother. The family feud thing is pretty outrageous though but two lovers on different sides ends up being together and unifying both sides somewat. Akin Akinozu and Ebru Shahin and the cast are amazing, 3 seasons of a stunning and well planned out show and Miran's hairstyle from a brooding bad boy look with his front hair down to it standing up which suites him better.

Sen Cal capimi is the first turkish drama I’ve ever watched. Do you have any recommendations similar to it?

For a similar show, I would go with Afili Aşk. It has that fake engagement/marriage trope!

Erkenci Kuş is another good one. It’s the first dizi I watched, so it has a special place in my heart!! It’s not similar story wise, but the main writer of Sen Çal Kapımı wrote on that show as well. The main couple also had unbelievable chemistry.

Benim Tatlı Yalanım is one of my favorites and I will always recommend it. It has one of the most mature relationships I’ve seen in these turkish dizis. Although, it’s not that much of a romantic comedy, even though it was advertised as one. Much more of a family drama type show.

Menajerimi Ara is a show that’s currently on. I haven’t started it yet, but I hear really good things about it! It also has turkish celebrities guest staring as themselves, so maybe it can introduce to some new shows!

For Hande Erçel dizis, she came in a show called Güneşin Kızları. It was pretty good, a very heavy storyline though, but her character and her love interest were really cute. There’s a drama called Halka that she came in that I heard good things about. She also came in another romantic comedy called Aşk Laftan Anlamaz, that I don’t know all that much about but it’s on my watch list!

For Kerem Bürsin dizis (although I haven’t really watched any of them), there’s Güneşi Beklerken. I started it a while ago and never finished but it wasn’t bad! I liked him and is love interest a lot. There’s Şeref Meselesi, that I’m seriously considering watching, don’t know what it’s about but he looks really good in it. I’ve seen clips of him in a show called Muhteşem İkili and seems like an action/comedy type show, he looked really funny in it. There’s also a Netflix original that he starred in and produced called Immortals, tbh I didn’t like it, but it’s readily available with good English subtitles so there’s that.

Are you up for new tv series? I would suggest Siyah Beyaz Aşk, it's really good with the original story, the kind of duality of characters you might like and the leads' chemistry is one of a kind. It's one of the best Turkish series out there. You can check a few clips with English subtitles on youtube. Or if I assume you wanna jump right in after reading about it on wiki or imbd. I have it on Google drive

Looked it up, and it seems a little darker than I like my shows; I usually need some kinda humour to lighten it up and keep me watching, especially considering that Turkish drama episodes are so so long! I get worn down by the tone if it’s just drama drama drama. But occasionally, I do get into the mood for such stuff, and shall keep this in mind for then!

Hey I'm trying to learn Turkish, do you know any good resources for learning the language?

Hey there! 

Since I don’t know what your mother language is, I’m just gonna pretend it’s an Indo-European one. Turkish belongs to the Uralic-Altaic family tree, so the syntax and grammar might seem hard and very very different to you. But as you learn more and more, you’ll notice that the whole language is literally based on “mathematics” because there are lots of roots and agglutinations. They are morphemes, added to a noun or verb to denote case, number, gender, person, tense, etc. Words are a combination of roots and stems. We, for example, native Turkish speakers find it difficult to learn any European language such as English or French, while we tend to learn Korean, Hungarian or Finnish much easier.

As for resources, I wouldn’t recommend you to watch Youtube videos like “learn Turkish in basic steps…” because they are so so wrong in stereotypes and most of them don’t pronounce things correctly. (You can watch if you want to, though) You can use duolingo for beginner level, I checked it a while ago and it was quite good. You can read children’s books. Sevim Ak (my sister loves her), İpek Ongun, and Mavisel Yener are among some good writers. To get the grammar I’d recommend you to construct simple sentences, like “geliyorum”, and then tear it apart from the root like “gel-i-yor-um”  (i.e. I’m coming). 

If you want to watch something, though, you should watch “TRT Arşiv” (TRT Archive, literally). The channel has some old TV series and clips dating back from 70s-90s and they are rhetorically the most-Turkish videos ever. You can watch “Yeşilçam” films. Also, there are some good shows on Netflix if you’re more into modern type, such as Kurt Seyit & Şura, Ezel… films of Cem Yılmaz are so fun, and Çağan Irmak is also a good director. Leyla ile Mecnun, Yedi Numara and Avrupa Yakası are some series I’d recommend but I don’t know if all of them are on Netflix. You can turn on the subtitles and get used to the phonology. I don’t know if you can speak a bit or not, but you can always message me :) I’d be glad to help further.

A warning: do not watch those soap-operatic Turkish dramas because so-called actors nowadays talk very BAD and they don’t know anything about the language along with screenwriters. They try to make Turkish sound like English in order to be “cool” or “élite” please remember. Their sentences are broken. They use the language too badly. We don’t usually talk like that.

Yemin (The Promise) (08/08/2019)

I know I said I would do Noble My Love next, but I’m pretty sure I watched it more than a year ago. So I’m probably going to have to do a quick rewatch for me to be able to write an informed review on it.

Instead I figured I’d review an episode of a Turkish drama I just started watching. I’m honestly not sure I’ll be able to finish it because so far there are only two episodes available with English subtitles on the official YouTube channel. 

I don’t know why I do this to myself.

Anyway, let’s begin!

First Impression: This is going to be a tearjerker for sure and I’ve only seen the first episode.

Cast: Everybody is literally gorgeous!

Wardrobe: I’m not too excited about Reyhan’s style. I love Suna’s sort of preppy look and I love Emir’s bad boy vibe.

Plot: Ummm...who doesn’t love your Cinderella-like story. From the beginning you’re rooting for Reyhan, the main character. She’s a beautiful cinnamon roll that does not get what she deserves. I’m sure that I’m going to enjoy watching anyone who hurts her get their just desserts [pun not intended].

Favourite Character: Suna, Emir’s sister. She’s sarcastic and seems like the only member of the family who has her head on. I know, Hikmet means well, but which father believes that their “wayward” son is going to agree to an arranged marriage????

Least Favourite Character: Nigar. She works in the house and she’s stuck up and rude. I look forward to seeing character development though. I hope they don’t just make her Cavidan’s pawn.

Heeyaa sorry for the late reply but I’m soo excited for this!!! About the turkish drama, I was actually just watching the latest episode and omg asdfghjk my heart is sooo happy and fed well tonight, they were being extra cuties, those little dorks lol. That drama is called “Erkenci kus” and you can find all the eps with English subtitles on youtube although I warn you each ep is like 2 hours lol.

About skam, I just saw the season 1 bloopers aaaand let’s just say a bitch is emotional right now. There’s no escaping from this show, is there? Just when you think you are free from it Julia is just like ‘bitch you thought.’ I have actually watched all the remakes some more than others tho. But the one that stole my heart was skam spain (bless its soul) as you can already tell, and god I miss it sooo much. I actually made a youtube video of the show because I couldn’t get it out of my system. Although skam italia is airing right now I’m just not feeling it as I did before so I’m just waiting for Druck to come back to me. With SkamNL, I have a hate and love relationship with that show. I love it because it has its own vibe and the girls all have different personalities which definitely takes a different tone in their friendship. A POC Noora?! sign me the fuck up. BUT idk if it’s because of the language or just the clips being always less than 2 min and everything feeling so rushed that I feel dis-attached from it. Like the clip finishes before I can process and digest what just happens and I’m just like ……. oK.

I recently watched Lisa’s (skam eva) new movie called battle in Netflix and it’s soooooooooooooooooooooo GOOD. If you haven’t watched it, I really recommend it to you. I fell in love with the character Mikael from the movie because he reminded me of Skam yousef. Soft boys who can dance. who knew I had a type lol :)
