what looks do you think the westerosi are showing off at the Tourney of Harrenhal?
biggest gathering of the year, first inter-kingdom gathering after winter, first King Aerys public appearance in forever, some peeps expecting a secret meeting with rhaegar about taking over for his father — it was THE party!
oh bitch the girls were turning ouuuuuut!
The Starklings were dressed in very Riverlander-like clothing (early to classic Medieval-ish) for the trip, which were very well made, befitting their status as children of the Warden of The North, but probably way simpler compared to most of the southerners. Probably a muted grey-black-deep blue pallet too, so that Rickard could cement their Serious Stark Vibes at the function. Brandon probably thought it made them look cool. Lyanna had the traditional wide flowing gowns and loose veils that I guess make blonde predators go oh wow I need to kidnap her for a prophecy
Tywin couldn't have his children looking like bums ofc. Cersei was still in the throes of her teenage Higharden fashions era, with a very high waist, pushed up bosom, and puff sleeves. Jamie's doublets all fitted perfectly and was made sure to have his fur-trimmed overgrown fall at just the right angle. And he probably had the best armor at the tourney, gilded with lions and vines. Because even though Tywin would rather kill Jamie than see him in the kingsgaurd, his son couldn't be caught not looking fresh. The tailors at Casterly were worked so hard they probably had the first ever medieval thoughts of unionizing.
Rhaegars bitch ass. Probably tended to wear longer coats/gowns/talbards, except for when he was sparring or jousting of course. They were obviously very well made, but were almost underwhelming for the heir to the kingdom, as he tended towards the simplistic side. Also I think they sometimes bordered on feminine bc he was a fairly androgynous figure To Me.
I think the Daynes were wearing their usual (Turkish) fashions, liking to stand out a bit from the crowd, but didn't stand out so much as the Martells. Ashara was the belle of the ball with her insanely detailed over gowns and fur linings in almost foreign styles. Yes it made Arthur extremely jealous when he saw Brandon and Barrister tripping over themselves around her (yes I'm going with the Dayne incest headcanon sorry). Also, the men in the family wore the traditional tightly wrapped styles as well, except for Arthur who probably slept in his kingsgaurd armor.
#god bless making this post made my computer run so agonizingly slow#so i hope u like it babies#also this is like...two months late im sorry I just couldn't decide on how to best interpret this ask#asoiaf hair and clothing

One of a Kind 1,500-Year-Old Roman ‘Lorica Squamata’ Legion Armor Restored
The 1,500-year-old Roman ‘Lorica Squamata’ legion armor, the only known example in the world, found in the ancient city of Satala in the village of Sadak in the Kelkit district of Gümüşhane in the Black Sea region of Türkiye, was restored.
Archaeological excavations continue in the ancient city of Satala, the only surviving castle on the eastern border of the Roman Empire and the only Roman Legion castle in Anatolia that can be excavated. and this unique artifact was unearthed during the 2020 excavation season.
The ancient city of Satala, where the 15th Legion of the Roman Empire, also known as the Apollinaris Legion, ruled for 600 years, is a well-known castle visited by Rome’s five emperors.
In a remarkable feat of preservation, the only known example of a “Lorica Squamata” model Roman legionary armor, dating back 1,500 years, has been successfully restored in Türkiye.
The completion of the restoration was announced by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism on its social media account.
The armor was first found and removed from the location in 2021 with assistance from the Ankara Regional Laboratory. It was then moved to the Erzurum Restoration and Conservation Regional Laboratory. Erzurum Atatürk University carried out a thorough examination, which included tomography and X-rays, to record the armor in its soil-encrusted state.
X-ray results revealed that almost the entire armor was intact. Micro CT imaging of a three-plate block taken from the edges helped determine the armor’s full measurements and partial metallurgical properties.
The conservation and restoration procedures were finished after three years of painstaking labor by the Erzurum Regional Directorate of Restoration and Conservation Laboratory. The armor was then resewn, returning it to its original form.
According to the ministry’s statement, the armor dates back to the Late Roman Period. It is a significant example of the Lorica Squamata type, noted for being the first known to the world.
During the Roman era, legionary armor was not made to order; instead, it was repaired and reused as needed. Surviving examples are extremely rare these days because, once damaged beyond repair, they were melted down and used for new purposes.
During the height of the Roman Empire, the Lorica Squamata was a common type of armor worn by military officers and specialists such as musicians or standard bearers. In certain provinces, it may have also been used to outfit entire regiments of Auxilia infantry, archers, and cavalrymen. Later in the Empire’s history, troops frequently used scaled armor as a form of protection.
Scaled Armor was very difficult to cut through and offered a strong, reliable defense for the wearer. In addition, the armor’s overlapping scales provided some absorptive qualities against concussive force. Usually, the scales were between.5 and.8 mm thick to keep the armor’s total weight under control.

Peles Castle
Peleș Castle is located at the foot of the Bucegi Mountains in the town of Sinaia in Prohova County, Romania. King Carol I of Romania built the Neo-Renaissance castle from 1873 to 1883; it was under his reign that the country gained its independence. Along with the castle, the king commissioned a royal summer retreat, a hunting lodge, royal stables, guards’ chambers, an Economat building, and a power plant on the estate. Peleș Castle was the world’s first to be fully powered by locally produced energy. The castle went through later additions throughout its history and was once seized by the Communist regime. The castle was closed from 1975 to 1990, but after the December 1989 Revolution the castle was re-established as a heritage site and reopened to the public. The castle boasts 160 ornate rooms carrying themes from cultures around the world. The rooms are lavishly decorated with wall and ceiling frescoes by Gustav Klimt and Franz von Matsch, Murano crystal chandeliers, German stained-glass windows, Cordoba leather covered walls, carved teak furniture in the Music room, and a 4,000 piece collection of arms and armor are displayed in the Armory. The castle also has a movie theater and a Turkish salon. The property has seven Italian neo-Renaissance terrace gardens made mostly of Carrara marble, while the gardens have statues, fountains, stairways, and marble paths. Peleș Creek runs through the courtyard, while a towering statue of King Carol I overlooks the main entrance. Peleș Castle is open to the public for guided tours and serves as the Peleș National Museum.

The teenage heroine of Lemnos
In 1460 AD, 7 years after the fall of Constantinople, the daughter of Isaakios Komnenos, lord of Frourio, was born in the fortress of Kotsina in Eastern Lemnos. Lemnos was still free and occupied by the Venetians. Maroula (affectionate version of Maria) grew up in an environment of freedom and patriotism, creativity, and spiritual upliftment. Since the age of 12 she was tutored by the famous scholar Porphyrios Notaras.
Beautiful in appearance and sweet in soul, Maroula acquires knowledge and knowledge of geography, mathematics, history, and folklore. At the time, the boot of the Ottoman Turks treads all over the Balkans. The Turks have taken and battered most Greek places, Ionia and most of the islands of the Archipelago. The Turks turn their sights to Lemnos. The shadow of slavery stretches over the island of Hephaestus.
Suleiman Pasha is the leader of the Turkish Armada. On May 21, 1478, they arrive on the island, at the Fort of Kotsina. Maroula is only 18 years old. The Greek and Venetian defenders of Lemnos pray together and grab their swords. Maroula's father, Isaakios Komnenos, roams the walls and cheers on the fighters. The battle is unequal and soon the Turks are up the walls. They surround the leader of the Greeks and take his head.
The morale of the defenders of the walls is shaken by seeing the demise of their leader. The disorderly retreat begins. Maroula was present at the battle and at her father's death. She wears her father's armor and takes his blood sword, leading a furious charge against the Ottoman invaders. The Greeks take courage and follow her.
The legendary Maroula, as another Amazon, slaughters the invaders with divine power. Hundreds of corpses lie on the walls, creating piles. The Turks run to the ships to find salvation, but Maroula chases them there too. So they return back to the Dardanelles. The fortress is saved.
The Venetian admiral Loredanos, admiring Maroula's heroism, proposes that she marry one of his best officers and get a dowry from the Venetian State, but Maroula politely rejects the proposal, saying that she wants to choose a man for herself, one she will trust with her honor and fate.
The fate of the daughter of Lemnos remains unknown, after the long-awaited concession of Lemnos by the Venetians to the Turks with a treaty. A statue of Maroula holding a sword has been erected in Lemnos. Aristomenes Provelegios wrote the well-known drama "The Daughter of Lemnos".

Something that bugs me is when people say in comments on my work that they don't think real life, existing combinations of ethnicities and identities exist. To give you examples, someone got annoyed that I wrote a half Chinese, half Turkish reporter in one scene. This is a reference to leftist news reporter Cenk Uyghur, a real life Turkish man, who is married to a Taiwanese woman and has two children, so in fact Turkish-Chinese people do exist and I can name you two exactly. Someone was irritated that I wrote a bisexual Romani Jewish man. He's there as a stealth shoutout to bisexual Romani Jewish American investigative journalist Travis View, a real life human being. I got told it was silly to have an asexual white Muslim girl. I am all of those things.
I get that a lot of people in fandom live in small towns that do not experience much in the ways of diversity but there are eight billion people on Earth. Incredibly weird and specific combinations more niche than anything I have listed here happen. People with identities you have never even heard of or who have overlapping statistically unlikely identities are everywhere, especially these days, as global travel is easier than ever and mixed people are an increasingly large demographic in many countries.
Also... bro this is the MCU. We're cool with wizards, aliens, magic, multiple timelines, sentient AIs that try to destroy the world, superpowered suits of armor, but a white Muslim - and I remind you that's most of Bosnia, an entire country, as well as one third of USAmerican Muslims - is too much to imagine?
I know we're all stuck on the other discourse about racism in fandom and their protest movement but they don't mention this, and it's an ongoing annoying problem I see in fandom.
--
I'd say suburbs more than small towns, but yeah. There's a very sheltered, clueless vibe to a lot of comments.

✨ - how did you come up with their name?
❤️ - what is their best memory?
✂️ - what is their worst memory?
i love other people's OCs so dearly, this is very exciting
okkkkk ill do kari for this one (my darling son i love him)
so his name, kari, means snow-covered in turkish. and i chose it because yk. he has white hair
funny story so his lore (and alia and ezra's too bc they're all connected) originally started out as like a mashup of random fairy tales. his was supposed to be snow white but i uh got distracted
his best memory would probably be playing in a lavender field with his mother when he was very small (since then, he always associates that scent with her, especially after she passes away)
his worst memory is something along the lines of [unimaginably horrific magical torture that causes his hair to white but that i haven't figured out the specifics of yet]
some other random facts i wanna share about him:
he's a knight (armor no duh)
he's autistic
he can communicate with most animals, given they're willing to speak to him
he was put under a magical sleeping spell for 90something years (THIS IS THE SNOW WHITE PART OK SHUT UP)
a song that fits him is "a baby bird" by blake rouse!!
thank you for asking!!!
