MOAR fungi! I was on a mission to find indigo milkcaps yesterday and was lucky enough to find some! I never used to really pay attention to mushrooms before, but now I see them everywhere! I suppose it's good to broaden my horizons a bit and become interested in new things! Anything in nature is awesome and worth documenting! I also finally got a decent Hemaris shot! I was lucky enough to spot the wrinkled peach mushroom in the first minute of searching.

Trametes versicolor--Turkeytail
I think anyway. It helps to know that we absolutely have not classified all fungi out there. I have photos I've posted to mycology forums and no one knows what they are. Photos are mine, unedited.

Turkeytail isn't so much "edible" (too tough) as consumable--the typical use is to steep it for a bitter but medicinal tisane as it's believed to boost the immune system (it's not poisonous, but use your judgment on that). They can also be put into soup, like bay leaves.
Word of ethics: leave a third of the young ones you find, and only if there are a lot.

🥀 🛩 🖌?
Ok so!
🥀- favorite animated show? BEE AND PUPPYCAT. Its art and backgrounds alone are so very gorgeous. But its also about being in that weird 20s-30s age where people are trying so hard just to live and get by. It's soft soundtrack is pretty good chore/study background music too~😌🩵💗
🛩-if traveling was free where would you go first? God I need to go to San Diego and meet that seal pup that tries to steal surfboards. Love by the beach for a while. I'd also love to go to Japan. Go to their hot spring resorts. Go to the fox island. I've been to Europe once but in a very boring group school trip. I'd love to go backpacking with friends.
🖌- Do you have any/want any tattoos? This will sound dumb and cheesy but I want a fruit sticker on my butt. I've got a pretty nice butt apparently. 🍑 peaches are one of my big aesthetics, plus they're delicious 💛. And it's funny because it can show you that I'm a little bit fruity~ 🤣🏳️‍🌈💛. If I could truly commit to a BIG one I'd get seaweed that wraps from my left hand around and around my body to my right foot. 🌿🪸

you honestly inspire me to learn to cook/think about what food will nourish me and food as part of the solution or healing for my chronic pain/the disease i have a genetic predisposition for. i looked into local butchers a little while ago and im planning a good roast with local grass-fed beef later this week. your posts make me feel like i can still have a good life without having to reframe it exclusively around my illness. i hope you're well <3
god this is so beautiful. I'm literally writing a grocery list right now before bed while sipping my sleepy time hot bev (cacao, collagen, turkeytail mushroom powder, cinnamon, clove, blackstrap molasses, and local milk)
I don't pretend it's as simple as eat well be well, but I do think it's completely essential. And to feed yourself well, to spend the money to eat good quality food, to support local agriculture, to eat meat that wasn't diseased and the whole animal was used and not wasted, and to pray before eating even non religiously but simply giving thanks for meals and the animals that we are consuming is so vital in my opinion to not just physical health but mental and spiritual too
I used to exclusively eat in a state of disassociation and anxiety because I didn't grow up eating with family routinely, or having home cooked loving meals so i just scarfed it down and over ate and felt disconnected from the action of feeding myself and it's root meaning and i know that all sounds mad corny but it's also true that the intention you approach even small overlooked parts of life is what makes up your reality and your health!
even if you are in a position where you have to eat a gas station sandwich i think to really give yourself the intention to enjoy and to even share that meal with someone you love makes all the difference

Turkey Tail: Otherwise known as Trametes versicolor or Coriolus versicolor. He is an elusive creature that makes its home in trees. You can usually hear them from a light suction cup sound as they go up and down trees. Alongside the sound, Turkey Tails have little hand appendages that they use to slap people viciously. So ferocious.

🍄Funguary 3: Turkey Tail
Mushroom mimics! The TurkeyTail Mimic will attach itself to a host tree by sinking its claws in, and stiffen its body on the bark of the tree. Dander on the underside of the wings incapacitates prey lured in by its shade. The prey becomes fertilizer for the host tree, and they feed on the nutrients inside. They can grow as big as beach umbrellas, though few survive so long.
When it comes time to mate they attach themselves to the tails of birds and use them to travel longer distances. This is also beneficial for their host birds!

Watching The Last of Us and I’m enjoying it but there are a couple things interfering with my suspension of disbelief: the notion that there would be absolutely nothing you could do in the face of a fungal pandemic. Like, we already have fungal infections. Antifungals are a thing. Doesn’t mean we’d be able to treat it easily or immediately, but it would be a far cry from “Okay, everybody give up and start bombing, nothing we can do. No treatment, no cure even possible, sorry”. Also, we know by now that the cordyceps fungus doesn’t actually control the mind at all, but only the movement of its host, which in a way is more terrifying since the host would be aware and wouldn’t be able to stop it. Basically you’d have zombie mushroom humans screaming “run!” “sorry!” and “help me!” while their bodies lurched toward an ideal spot for mushroom growth and spore distribution. Which by the way, yeah, that’s how real cordyceps does it, they don’t try to bite their victims, they try to find a good place to make their mushroom, during which they’ll kill their host and then release their spores. Any member of its target species to ingest those spores will soon find themselves looking for a good spot to mushroom out. The look of the mushrooms too, like they’re drawing from at least three different species of mushroom, which looks cool, I guess, but seeing this:

growing out of people’s faces instead what looks like turkeytail mushrooms seems pretty cool to me...Still like the show, love the concept, totally nitpicking. I just think if someone else ever wants to play with this concept, reality would be more fascinating, not less.
